Eva Ruth Judd, 78, of South Hutchinson, died November 28, 2023, at Pleasant View Home, Inman. She was born November 8, 1945, in Taos, NM, to Clarence Edward and Betsy Annis (Dean) Judd.

Eva attended school in Taos and became a registered nurse. &nbsp;She worked for several nursing homes for many years.

Eva enjoyed singing and attending church, she was a very religious person. She was a devoted member of Victorious Life Church, Hutchinson.

In 1963, she married Richard Smith, in San Bernardino, CA. They later divorced.

Eva is survived by: her sons, Mark Smith of Hutchinson, KS, David (Becky) Smith of Bellevue, NE; ex-husband, Richard Smith of Hutchinson, KS; grandchildren, Zach Smith and Emily Smith both of Bellevue, NE; sisters, Ruby Hall and Edna Pitcher both of Heavener, OK; and step- grandson, Dillon Jarolimek of South Hutchinson, KS.

She was preceded in death by her parents and 7 brothers.

Cremation has taken place. No services have been planned at this time.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to Gentiva Hospice, in care of Elliott Mortuary, 1219 N. Main, Hutchinson, KS 67501. &nbsp;

Duane Daniel Fiedler, 60, passed away on December 02, 2023 at &nbsp;Wesley Medical Center in Wichita, KS.

Duane was born on October 10, 1963 in McPherson, KS to parents, Anthony Carl and Geraldine Catherine Leiker Fiedler, Sr..Duane attended Lincoln Elementary School, McPherson Junior High and McPherson High School, McPherson, Kansas.

He was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church in McPherson. He was a member of the US Army.

Through the years Duane worked MCDS, McPherson, Kansas and retired from Compass Mineral Company , Lyons, Kansas in 2016. 

Duane enjoyed fishing, hunting, going to drag races, grand kids events, spending time with his children and family.

He is survived by his children, Brandi Reazin (Tom) of Chase, Kansas, Colette Pitts(Triston), of Geneseo, Kansas; his sister Gail Gill(Tim), of New Stanley, New Mexico, Sherry Fiedler, of McPherson, Kansas, Janet Stine(Dan), of Roscoe, Illinois, Ron Fiedler(Dee), of McPherson, Kansas and Randy Fiedler, of McPherson, Kansas. other relatives, many nieces and nephews and a host of friends. He is also survived by 6 grandchildren, Troy Reazin, Elizabeth Reazin, Caleb Reazin, Raelon Pitts and Kenna Pitts and a great grandchild, Remington Reazin.

Myron D. Hiebert, 61, passed away suddenly December 1, 2023, at his residence. He was born November 21, 1962, in Goessel, the son of Merlin and Velma (Schroeder) Hiebert. He was a graduate of Goessel High School with the class of 1981. He graduated from Bethel College in 1985. He worked many years as production manager at Countryside Feed, as well as, a life-long farmer. 

On August 11, 1985, he was united in marriage to the love of his life, Ann Ratzlaff, in North Newton, Kansas. 

He is lovingly survived by his parents Merlin and Velma Hiebert of Goessel; his wife Ann Hiebert of Goessel; sons: Garrett (Brittany) Hiebert of Goessel, Weston (Courtney) Hiebert of Goessel, and Lucas (Michelle) Hiebert of Moundridge; siblings: Sandra (Steve) Banman and Lynell (Vickie) Hiebert all of Goessel; 4 grandchildren: Elliot, Wyatt, Reagan and Haydin Hiebert; and his parents-in-law Arlin and Janora Ratzlaff of North Newton. 

All services will be held at Alexanderwohl Mennonite Church with a Visitation on Friday, December 8, 2023, from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m., and the Funeral Service to be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, December 9, 2023. A Private Burial will be in the Alexanderwohl Mennonite Cemetery.

Rodney David Miller, 57, passed away on November 20, 2023, at Hutchinson Regional Medical Center. He was born on December 15, 1965, in Hutchinson, Kansas, to Wilmer and Sylvia (Yoder) Miller. He attended Haven High School and was a resident of Hutchinson most of his life, except for several years spent in Germany. He had worked for Walmart, Dillon’s, and the Law Enforcement Training Center cafeteria. He was a very active and beloved member at 11th Ave Chapel, Hutchinson.

Rodney is survived by a daughter, Teresa Miller, Berlin, Germany; and two sisters, Wanda Morgan and Donita (Danny) King, both of Hutchinson.

Rodney was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Karla Dellinger.

Henry T. Ensz, 92, of Inman, KS, peacefully passed away on Wednesday, November 29, 2023, surrounded by family at Moundridge Manor.&nbsp; He was a farmer, stockman, and carpenter.

Henry was born on February 22, 1931, in rural Inman, KS, the son of Dietrich D. and Anna (Toews) Ensz.&nbsp; On January 30, 1955, Henry was united in marriage to Lorraine Koehn in Montezuma, KS.&nbsp;

He was a member of Zion Church of God in Christ, rural Inman.

Survivors include: his loving wife of 68 years, Lorraine; seven children, Steven Ensz of Inman, KS, Douglas (Gina) Ensz of Greensburg, KS, Karen (Charles) Justus of Othello, WA, Diane (Lynn) Nightingale of Canton, KS, Rosalie Nichols of Inman, KS, Merle (Luanne) Ensz of Inman, KS, and Duane (Kristi) Ensz of Transylvania, LA; sisters, Martha Koehn of Moundridge, KS and Margaret Fehr of Pincher Creek, AB, Canada; sister-in-law, Mabel Ensz of Louisville, GA; 23 grandchildren; and 24 great-grandchildren.

Gail Wayne Arrowsmith was born on October 23rd, 1951 to the union of Don and Beulah Arrowsmith in Halstead, Kansas. Gail married Jo Schrag on November 26th, 1971. A few years later they had their first child Todd Arrowsmith. Eventually they moved to their current home in Newton, Kansas where Jo still lives today. There they were blessed with their second child Trent Arrowsmith. Four years later, there was a surprise, Toby Arrowsmith was born.

Gail was a gun and western fanatic. He loved John Wayne and western shows and movies. His sons can remember their father dragging them to fast draw contests across the country when they were younger. He was an Assistant Scoutmaster for Troop #111. Gail worked for many years at Youthville in maintenance until his accident on July 4th, 1989. This was a tough time for the family especially with three young children but together Gail and Jo persevered.

Gail Arrowsmith departed this life on November 28th, 2023. He was preceded in death by his parents, Don and Beulah Arrowsmith. Family graveside service at Pleasant Valley Cemetery Monday December 4th, 2023 at 1 pm. Celebration of life 2:30-5 pm at the Chapel on Paramount campus. In lieu of flowers memorials may be sent to Salem United Methodist Church,&nbsp; Elks National foundation for education or Good Shepherd Hospice.

It is with a heavy heart we must announce the passing of Dewey Dale Wearne on Sunday, November 26, 2023.&nbsp; Dewey was born April 14, 1959, in Council Bluffs, Iowa to Bruce Webster Wearne and Georgia Belle Fleming. Growing up in an old schoolhouse and on a farm offered him skills that he applied throughout his life.

After high school, Dewey moved to Colorado. There, he found a career with Colorado State University in the facilities department. He enjoyed the many different tasks that it offered him. He also enjoyed raising his children Stephanie, Chase and Kimberly in Colorado. Their childhoods were packed with fishing trips, four-wheeler rides and the often “ride” in the new to him old car that he had traded for.

Dewey loved old and fast cars. He always had a project and a show car to show off. Some of the kids’ fondest memories included driving the ’64 Mustang, ’56 Belair, ’70 Camaro, ’29 Model A and ’64 Falcon. Before retirement, the family was able to live by a lake where every opportunity was seized to take the boat out for some all-day fishing trips with friends. If not on the lake, then he could be spotted on the golf course with friends. You see, Dewey was able to make friends with anyone. His welcoming “howdy” was a known trait regardless if you were a friend or stranger.

After 24 years with the University, Dewey retired to Wellington, Colorado. After some time, he picked up and moved to Elberta, Alabama. Of course, this was to spend more time on the water doing what he loved. After cleaning out all the great fishing holes, he and Marta picked up and moved to McPherson, Kansas to look after her mother. While it was not close to the lake, he enjoyed fixing up the next project car and playing the guitar.

Dewey is survived by Marta Wray, his children Stephanie Wearne &amp; Nick McGovern, Chase Wearne &amp; Kristine Frey and Kimberly and Brian Boydstun; his siblings Patricia &amp; John Wheeler, Marcia &amp; Don Biedermann, Jim “Jaime” &amp; Mary Pat Wearne and Debbie “Sheg” Wearne &amp; Dan Hoffarth; his grandchildren Brooklynn, Elizabeth, Jaxson, Abigail, Benjamin &amp; Rachel.&nbsp; He was preceded in death by his parents Bruce &amp; Georgia Wearne. He will be missed.

 </figure>It is with a heavy heart we must announce the passing of Dewey Dale Wearne on Sunday, November 26, 2023.&nbsp; Dewey was born April 14, 1959, in Council Bluffs, Iowa to Bruce Webster Wearne and Georgia Belle Fleming. Growing up in an old schoolhouse and on a farm offered him skills that he applied throughout his life.After high school, Dewey moved to Colorado. There, he found a career with Colorado State University in the facilities department. He enjoyed the many different tasks that it offered him. He also enjoyed raising his children Stephanie, Chase and Kimberly in Colorado. Their childhoods were packed with fishing trips, four-wheeler rides and the often “ride” in the new to him old car that he had traded for.Dewey loved old and fast cars. He always had a project and a show car to show off. Some of the kids’ fondest memories included driving the ’64 Mustang, ’56 Belair, ’70 Camaro, ’29 Model A and ’64 Falcon. Before retirement, the family was able to live by a lake where every opportunity was seized to take the boat out for some all-day fishing trips with friends. If not on the lake, then he could be spotted on the golf course with friends. You see, Dewey was able to make friends with anyone. His welcoming “howdy” was a known trait regardless if you were a friend or stranger.After 24 years with the University, Dewey retired to Wellington, Colorado. After some time, he picked up and moved to Elberta, Alabama. Of course, this was to spend more time on the water doing what he loved. After cleaning out all the great fishing holes, he and Marta picked up and moved to McPherson, Kansas to look after her mother. While it was not close to the lake, he enjoyed fixing up the next project car and playing the guitar.Dewey is survived by Marta Wray, his children Stephanie Wearne &amp; Nick McGovern, Chase Wearne &amp; Kristine Frey and Kimberly and Brian Boydstun; his siblings Patricia &amp; John Wheeler, Marcia &amp; Don Biedermann, Jim “Jaime” &amp; Mary Pat Wearne and Debbie “Sheg” Wearne &amp; Dan Hoffarth; his grandchildren Brooklynn, Elizabeth, Jaxson, Abigail, Benjamin &amp; Rachel.&nbsp; He was preceded in death by his parents Bruce &amp; Georgia Wearne. Dewey Dale Wearne |1959-2023|

On Thanksgiving Day, November 23, 2023 we lost our beautiful Laura (Lou).&nbsp; Laura Beth Harrison, 68, passed away peacefully at her home in Ft. Myers, Florida with her loving husband of 50 years, Toby (Toe), by her side.&nbsp; Laura was born April 7, 1955 in Chanute, Kansas to Lloyd Barham and Ardis (Old/Barham) Bachus.&nbsp; On August 18, 1973, she married her high school sweetheart and love of her life, Toby Harrison, in Newton, Kansas.&nbsp; Laura graduated from Wichita State University in 1977 with a Bachelor's Degree in Nursing and pursued a nursing career focused on obstetrics. She was a vested participant at the birth of each of her grandchildren.

Laura was an extraordinary wife, devoted mother, adoring grandmother, and a cherished friend to many. She lived her life full of love and compassion having a special connection to animals taking in several dogs and raising two ducklings over the years.&nbsp; She was a world traveler and enjoyed numerous international adventures with Toby where she started and cultivated many global friendships. She had a particular fondness for Italy and even learned to speak Italian. Her travels enhanced her appreciation of architectural design and decor which she incorporated in her various homes. She loved the holidays and Christmas always brought her much joy.&nbsp; Laura (Mimi) especially relished spending time with her grandchildren, always entertaining and amusing them, and even coming up with witty and affectionate nicknames for each.&nbsp; Although she stepped away from her career as a nurse in the early nineties to focus on raising her family, she continued to build her knowledge, keep up with medical advancements and maintained a devotion to medicine throughout her life.

Laura was very proud of her family and the life she made with Toby. She will be remembered for her incredibly large heart, warm smile, brilliant mind, and wild sense of humor. This world will be so much less colorful without her. We love you always and forever.

She is survived by her husband Toby; son: Kacey (wife Sinead) Harrison; daughters: Amber (husband Brandon) Bogue; April (husband Chad) Childers and Alissa Harrison; brothers: Kenneth Barham and Arlen Barham; sister Jan (husband Dave) Hennes. She is also survived by six grandchildren Braxton (Sizzle), Alexa (Goosecat), Jasper (Spurino), Bridger (Bridgy Boy), Halston (Luv Bug), and Violette (VeeVee).

Laura is preceded in death by her father Lloyd Barham.

Funeral service will be 1:00 pm December 8th, 2023 at University Congregational Church in Wichita. Visitation with family will be 2 hours prior to the service at the church. Burial will be in the Kensington Gardens Cemetery in Wichita.

Alicia Gómez Macias passed away on November 26th, 2023, at Hospice House in Hutchinson Kansas. Alicia was born on May 29th, 1946, in Rancho Seco Aguascalientes, Mexico. She is the daughter of Manuel and Cuca Gomez. While in Mexico she cared of her brothers and sisters, as she began a career in the health care industry alongside her mother. Alicia was a neighborhood advocate working with governors and the government to build homes and roads in less developed areas. &nbsp;

Alicia dedicated her life to the healthcare profession. She was a nurse for 35 years. Through her tenure as a nurse, she cared for and touched the lives of many people who will truly miss her. She was a true angel and was loved by family and friends.

Alicia was a resident of Hutchinson Kansas since 1985. During her time in Hutchinson, she worked in many places. Which included the Anchor Inn working for Tony Flores and his family. She was known for making the best flour tortillas and preaching the gospel to everyone she met.

Alicia is survived by her son Sergio Gomez, seven grandchildren, and nine siblings Manuel Gomez, Jesus Gomez, Salvador Gomez, Juan Gomez, Irene Gomez, Rafael Gomez, San Juana Lucio, Jose Luis Gomez, and Leticia Gomez.

She was proceeded in death by her parents Manuel Gomez and Cuca Gomez, a brother Antonio Gomez and nephew Alan Antonio Gomez.

Funeral Service will be at 11:00. Monday, December 4th, 2023, at "Fe Viva" Iglesia del Nazareno, 820 Lincoln St, Hutchinson, KS 67501, with Pastor Edgar Lopez officiating. Margorie L. "Marge" Roberson 79, died Thursday, November 30, 2023 at NMC Health in Newton. She was born April 19, 1944 in Stafford, Kansas to Arthur and Marsonis (Buck) Roberson. &nbsp;She was married to Thomas M Roberson on January 6, 1967 in Great Bend, Kansas and he survives of the home.

She attended Trinity Heights United Methodist Church in Newton.

Marge was co-owner of the former Roberson Liquor store in Newton. She faithfully served the Newton and Harvey County communities' as both a Newton City Commissioner where she served a term as Mayor and also 2 terms as a Harvey County Commissioner. &nbsp;In addition to her elected positions Marge served the community on the Newton Area Chamber of Commerce, Harvey County Economic Development Board and a former board member of the Heath Ministries Clinic in Newton among many other boards and charities in the area. &nbsp;She also was past president of the Kansas Retail Liquor Dealers Association where she served for 8 years.

Marge was a loyal friend with quick wit and fast smile, &nbsp;but her greatest joy was being a loving wife, mother and grandmother.

She is survived by her husband Thomas "Tom" Roberson of the home; sons Bradley (Barbara) Roberson and Brent Roberson; brother Clayton Buck; 4 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents and sister Carolyn Marks

Darlene Elaine (Funk) McVey was born September 18, 1936, in Kansas City, Kansas, and adopted a week later by Ferdinand and Agnes Funk. She passed away November 28, 2023, in Goessel, Kansas. Darlene grew up on a farm near Goessel with her older brother, LeRoy. At an early age, her father passed away. Later, Agnes married George Janzen and added three siblings to the family.

Darlene was baptized May 28, 1950, at Alexanderwohl Mennonite Church, rural Goessel. After graduating from Goessel High School in 1954, she moved to Kansas City, Kansas, where she obtained a nursing degree and worked as a Licensed Practical Nurse for 47 years. She married Frank Stoebick on April 14, 1956. They divorced in 1968, and she married Jimmie McVey in 1972. He died May 6, 2014. She lived in Peru, Indiana, for about 30 years before moving to Bethesda Home in Goessel in October.

Darlene will be remembered for her cheerful, optimistic spirit and her courage and resiliency during challenging times.

Survivors include two sons, Terry (Saundra) Stoebick and Jason (Connie) McVey; four grandchildren, Jason Jr., Ashli, Bathory and Gianna McVey; one great-grandchild; and stepbrother Gerald Janzen. She was preceded in death by her parents and stepfather, her brother, a stepbrother and stepsister, a stepson and two stepdaughters.

Calvin M. Sheppard, 98, died November 28, 2023, at Thorne Care Center, Hutchinson. &nbsp;He was born July 3, 1925, to Roy and Fanny Masters Sheppard, at Grace Hospital in Hutchinson, Kansas, where he had been a life-long Reno County, Hutchinson, Kansas resident. &nbsp;

Calvin grew up on a dairy farm on 56th Street, now known as Sheppard’s Acres. &nbsp; He attended Prosperity Grade School, Hutchinson High School, and Hutchinson Community College. &nbsp;

Calvin served in the United States Army in WWII and the Korean War. &nbsp;He was part of the 82nd Airborne. &nbsp;In 1950, he was called back in the service and assigned to an engineer battalion in Korea where he received two battle stars.

In 1958, Calvin was elected Reno County Sheriff. &nbsp;He was active in forming and creating the Kansas Sheriff’s Association, and served as 2nd president of the association, where he is still a member. &nbsp;Calvin later owned a driveway company, delivering recreational vehicles, buses, and trailers throughout the United States and Canada. &nbsp; He traveled every state in the United States, and every providence in Canada, making many friends along the way.&nbsp;

Calvin was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church, American Legion Lysle Rishel Post 68 in Hutchinson, Veterans of Foreign Wars, Disabled American Veterans, and a 24-year volunteer for the National Junior College Association.

Calvin is survived by: &nbsp;daughter, Beth Sheppard of Hutchinson, KS; son, Scott Sheppard (Rendi) of Liberty, MO; two granddaughters, Whitney Sheppard and Kelsie Harper (Jake); grandson, Max Meyer, all of Lee’s Summit, MO; two great-granddaughters, Isabella (13) and Scarlett Harper (7); and a brother, Tom Sheppard (Martha) of Rancho Santa Margarita, California.

He was preceded in death by: &nbsp;his parents; a brother, and a sister.

Memorial service will be 1:00 p.m. Monday, December 4, 2023, at Trinity United Methodist Church, 1602 N. Main, Hutchinson, with the Reverend Michael Tomson-DeGreeff officiating. &nbsp;Military honors will be conducted by the Fort Riley Honor Guard. &nbsp;Private inurnment will take place in the church columbarium. &nbsp;Cremation has taken place. &nbsp;Friends may sign his book from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. at Elliott Mortuary, Hutchinson. The family will receive friends at the church following his service.&nbsp;

He was raised in Pilsen with his two older brothers, Robert and Florian, and attended Pilsen Grade School. He was an active, adventurous, and energetic child, which affectionately earned him his lifelong nickname “Hooligan” in Pilsen. In June of 1940, he was given the honor of participating in the procession of Father Emil Kapaun’s first Mass at St. John Nepomucene church and would serve as an altar boy throughout his youth.

Like his father, he learned to play the slide trombone, and would practice polkas at home with his brothers. At 14 he began playing in local polka bands and was in numerous bands over the years. His final performance was on November 7, 2009, at the age of 78, performing with his family band.

Eugene graduated from Lincolnville High School in 1948 and enlisted in the Army. Shortly thereafter he received a medical discharge and returned to Pilsen. He recovered from his illness and started a gasoline transportation business and opened the Pilsen Corner Station. In 1953, he chose to pursue dentistry. He graduated in 1957 from St Benedict’s College in Atchison with a BS in Biology.

On June 1, 1957, he married Verna Jirak. They moved to Kansas City while Eugene attended the Kansas City Dental College, earning his DDS degree in May of 1961. The couple then moved back home to Pilsen along with their first two children, Anne and Eugene Jr. Six more children were born to Eugene and Verna: Doug, Amy, Mary, Jo Ellen, Jerry, and Karen.

Eugene practiced dentistry in Marion from 1961 until retiring in 1999. Dr. Vinduska treated his patients over the years with kindness and compassion; he worked with a smile on his face and often while humming a tune. For the last 10 years of his practice, his wife Verna worked alongside him as his receptionist.

Eugene had many hobbies: hunting, fishing, traveling, boating, and attending polka dances with Verna. He earned his private pilot license and enjoyed flying his Piper Cherokee around Kansas and the surrounding states. He also owned a BMW motorcycle which he rode to work and on fun little trips with Verna. He loved to tell stories of growing up in Pilsen and the many adventures he had over his 92 years. He worked hard at home and in his dental office, and always had a kid or two along to help.

He was a member of Holy Family Parish, and a charter member of the Father Kapaun Knights of Columbus Council #3423 in Pilsen; he was also a member of the American Dental Association, Kansas Dental Association, and the California Dental Association. He lived nearly his entire life in Pilsen until his passing at Halstead Health and Rehab on November 23, 2023.

Eugene is preceded in death by his wife Verna, parents Joseph and Marie Vinduska, brothers Robert and Florian, and his son, Eugene Jr. He is survived by seven children: Anne (Tom) Malone of Topeka, Doug (Kim) Vinduska of Wichita, Amy (Tim) Vogel of Marion, Mary (Steve) McNeil of Wichita, JoEllen (Brian) Whitehair of Abilene, Jerry (Heather) Vinduska of Wichita, and Karen (Jeffry) Thompson of Ozawkie. He is also survived by sister-in-law Marguerite Jirak, 23 grandchildren, and 20 great-grandchildren.

Dr. Eugene Francis Vinduska, Sr. |1930-2023|

Charles Herbert Reimer was born February 7, 1928 to Gustav and Justina Harder Reimer in Newton, Kansas, the third of five children. He went home to heaven on November 26, 2023 at the age of 95.

He grew up on a wheat and livestock farm east of Whitewater, Kansas. Charles attended grade school at a one-room schoolhouse in Brainard and graduated from the former Whitewater Hight school. He attended Bethel Academy.

As a young child he was taught the importance of being in a church community of faith, and where the Bible was honored as God’s word. His parents took their family to Emmaus Mennonite Church, a country church near Whitewater. It was there, while in his teens, that he made the decision and commitment to call Jesus Christ his Savior and Lord.

When in third grade, his teacher gifted him with two small books, Birds of America, which Charles treasured. Learning about and being profoundly amazed by God’s intricate designs in birds, animals, plants and terrain was a large part of his entire life, and also something that he taught his children to notice. He greatly enjoyed taking his family to the Audubon presentations, on many camping trips, to Kansas lakes and to visit Rocky Mountain National Parks.

Charles met Donna Nunnenkamp on a blind date and they were married on October 22, 1950.Their first child, Deborah Joy, was born in 1951, followed by Charlynn Gaye in 1954, Charles Evan in 1955, Donald Kevin in 1956, and Donna DeAnne in 1963.

Charles began building a house for his family in 1956, four miles from Valley Center, while also working a full time job and farming 80 acres that he rented. This home became a family gathering place throughout the years.

He began employment at Coleman Company in Wichita which he remained at for 40 years until his retirement in 1990. Following retirement, he and Donna enjoyed nearly 30 years of tending their land near Walton. Early on, they planted native grasses and Austrian Pines. Charles dug ponds with a six-foot Tumblebug that he pulled behind his John Deere tractor, making hundreds of rounds cutting one inch at a time. For years, they would load their suburban every week with 30 milk jugs filled with water for the trees. They would take their lunch, watch wildlife and relax in the peaceful setting of God’s amazing creation. They were often helped on projects by grandsons who lived nearby. For their 60th wedding anniversary, those two grandsons totally restored a John Deere Model B tractor - which surprised and greatly pleased Charles!

Charles leaves his wife Donna of 73 years; daughters Debbie (Dan) Kauffman of Kalispell, Montana, Char of Valley Center, DeAnne (John) Hoch of Wilson; sons Charlie (Ruth) of Newton, and Don of Walton; daughter-in-law Sheryl of Newton; grandchildren - Joylynn, Joshua, Caleb, Heather, Haylee, Katie, Stewart, Aaron, Jared, and Carson; great-grandchildren Marissa, Phoenix, Sawyer, Charlotte, Lydia, Gideon, Samantha, Charles James, Alissa, Jones, Gus, Kamerson, Zavier, and Jackson Charles; sister-in-laws Gladys Reimer, Nadine Nunnenkamp, and Jeanette Nunnenkamp.

Charles was preceded in death by his parents; brothers Gus (Berneice) and John; sisters Marieand Doris; niece Cindy; in-laws Wayne (Georgine) Nunenkamp, Allen (Cecille) Nunnenkamp, Mardelle (Delmar) Spoering, Stan Nunnenkamp and Gary Nunnenkamp.

Charles H McMichael 92, died November 27, 2023 at Hutchinson Hospital in Hutchinson, Kansas. He was born November 11, 1931 in Corwin, Kansas to Walter G. and Mary J. (Hoke) McMichael. &nbsp;On September 17, 1955 he married Gay Dowd at Braman, Oklahoma and she survives of the home.

He was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Newton

Charlie graduated from Anthony High School in Anthony, Kansas in 1950. He served his county in the U.S. Army. He had a long career with the former Duckwall Alco stores where he worked for 47 years. &nbsp;He began working for Duckwall Alco in Anthony Kansas when he was 12 years old. He retired from the Newton Alco Store in 1994

He is survived by his wife Gay; children: Charles R. McMichael; Aaron McMichael (Kathy); Mary Huddleston (Ken); four grandchildren Cheryl Stevens (Paul); Michael and Jamie Wyatt; Chris McMichael (Mellise) and Matt Calvin. He is also survived by 7 great grandchildren.

He is preceded in death by his parents and siblings Lorraine Messner and Earl McMichael

Funeral service will be 11:00 a.m., Friday, December 1, 2023 at Petersen Funeral Home Chapel with Michael White officiating. Visitation with the family will be 10:00 a.m. to service time Friday. Private family interment will be in Greenwood Cemetery Newton.

Patricia Elaine Sawaya, 86, died November 3, 2023, at Sunshine Meadows Retirement Community, Buhler. She was born November 10, 1936, in Hutchinson, to Thomas and Clara (Crutchfield) Sewell.

Patricia graduated from Hutchinson High School in 1955. She was a member of Emanuel Lutheran Church in Hutchinson. On August 27, 1955, she married Norman C. Sawaya, in Hutchinson. They spent nearly 65 years together before he passed away on August 17, 2020.

Patricia is survived by: daughters, Sharon Sawaya (Jim DeFries), Kansas City, Diana Sawaya, Hutchinson; sons, Jim Sawaya, Tacoma, Washington, Chris Sawaya, Hutchinson; sister-in-law, Linda Sewell, Hutchinson; brother, Terry Sewell, Oklahoma; six grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by: her parents; husband; daughter-in-law, Nancy Sawaya; and brothers, Jim and Craig Sewell.

Patricia Elaine Sawaya |1936-2023|

Elsie Elfrieda Enns Steelberg, MD, 89, died peacefully on November 27 in Buhler, KS, with her husband at her bedside. She was beloved by her husband of 64 years, Donald Steelberg, and their four sons and their families.

Elsie was born in Newton, KS, on June 8, 1934, and grew up in Buhler, the daughter of Herman and Margaret (Reimer) Enns, the third of four children. She attended Tabor College and graduated from Northwestern University in 1956. She graduated from Northwestern Medical School in 1960 and completed her anesthesiology residency in 1964. She was an anesthesiologist for 13 years before deciding to go back to school for psychiatry, completing her psychiatry residency in 1981 from SUMMA Health System/Northeast Ohio Medical University in Rootstown, Ohio.

In 1954, Elsie transferred from Tabor College to Northwestern University and went to live with her sister Margaret in Chicago, where they attended Moody Bible Church. Elsie met Donald Steelberg at an InterVarsity meeting at Northwestern in 1954. After graduation in 1956, the couple exchanged letters for three years while she was in medical school and he was at Princeton Theological Seminary. They married in Chicago in 1959 and raised four sons in Chicago, IL, Wichita, KS, and Wadsworth, OH.

She joined Lorraine Avenue Mennonite Church in Wichita when Donald took an Associate Pastor position there in 1965. They moved to Wadsworth in 1968 when Donald became Pastor at First Mennonite and Elsie worked at Wadsworth Rittman Hospital and Akron General Medical Center. After 15 years in Wadsworth, she and Donald moved back to Wichita in 1984, where she practiced psychiatry first with Prairie View and then in private practice, for a total of 36 years.

Elsie loved psychiatry and cared deeply for her patients. She enjoyed teaching students from the University of Kansas School of Medicine in Wichita. She served on the Wichita-Sedgwick County Board of Health. She was proud of her time serving on the Mennonite General Conference's Human Sexuality Committee from 1982 to 1987. She was an early supporter of gay marriage and LBGTQ+ rights at a time when this was not a popular position in her church and continued to advocate for these rights within the Mennonite Church throughout her lifetime.

Outside of work, she loved to read and to travel. At the time of her death she was reading Cicero, My Antonia, and Seneca: Letters from a Stoic. She was pleased to welcome four daughters-in-law into the family after raising four boys. She loved cooking her sons' favorite foods, including "western" flapjacks, beef and potato soup, Caesar salad, potato salad, cookies of all types, red velvet cake, and custard pie. She insisted on making pudding on the stove, never instant. She loved visiting with her grandchildren and hearing of their exploits. Her grandchildren remember playing games with her and that she was always a great sport, even drinking the "tea" they made for her out of warm water and Jolly Ranchers (her favorites), Skittles, or M&amp;Ms, whatever candy she brought with her on her visit.

In addition to her husband, Elsie is survived by her four sons and daughters-in-law - Jeremy (Caroline), Chicago, IL; Nelson (Nancy), McLean, VA; Derek (Maria), Naples, FL; and Schuyler (Kathleen), Cookson, OK. She is survived by ten grandchildren: Tierney (Jillian), Grinnell, IA; Connor, Brooklyn, NY; Johanna Braunsdorf (Michael), Seattle, WA; Malena, Los Angeles, CA; Matthew, Charlottesville, VA; Solenne, Chicago, IL; and Cameron and Graham of Chicago, IL. She is also survived by her sister, Ramona Binci, of Conway, AR, and many nephews, nieces, grandnephews and grandnieces. She was preceded in death by her parents, her sister Margaret, and her brother Harry.

A private service will be held at Sunshine Meadows Retirement Community in Buhler. A private burial will be held at Lorraine Avenue Cemetery. She attended Tabor College and graduated from Northwestern University in 1956. She graduated from Northwestern Medical School in 1960 and completed her anesthesiology residency in 1964. She was an anesthesiologist for 13 years before deciding to go back to school for psychiatry, completing her psychiatry residency in 1981 from SUMMA Health System/Northeast Ohio Medical University in Rootstown, Ohio.In 1954, Elsie transferred from Tabor College to Northwestern University and went to live with her sister Margaret in Chicago, where they attended Moody Bible Church. Elsie met Donald Steelberg at an InterVarsity meeting at Northwestern in 1954. After graduation in 1956, the couple exchanged letters for three years while she was in medical school and he was at Princeton Theological Seminary. They married in Chicago in 1959 and raised four sons in Chicago, IL, Wichita, KS, and Wadsworth, OH.She joined Lorraine Avenue Mennonite Church in Wichita when Donald took an Associate Pastor position there in 1965. They moved to Wadsworth in 1968 when Donald became Pastor at First Mennonite and Elsie worked at Wadsworth Rittman Hospital and Akron General Medical Center. After 15 years in Wadsworth, she and Donald moved back to Wichita in 1984, where she practiced psychiatry first with Prairie View and then in private practice, for a total of 36 years.Elsie loved psychiatry and cared deeply for her patients. She enjoyed teaching students from the University of Kansas School of Medicine in Wichita. She served on the Wichita-Sedgwick County Board of Health. She was proud of her time serving on the Mennonite General Conference's Human Sexuality Committee from 1982 to 1987. She was an early supporter of gay marriage and LBGTQ+ rights at a time when this was not a popular position in her church and continued to advocate for these rights within the Mennonite Church throughout her lifetime.Outside of work, she loved to read and to travel. At the time of her death she was reading Cicero, My Antonia, and Seneca: Letters from a Stoic. She was pleased to welcome four daughters-in-law into the family after raising four boys. She loved cooking her sons' favorite foods, including "western" flapjacks, beef and potato soup, Caesar salad, potato salad, cookies of all types, red velvet cake, and custard pie. She insisted on making pudding on the stove, never instant. She loved visiting with her grandchildren and hearing of their exploits. Her grandchildren remember playing games with her and that she was always a great sport, even drinking the "tea" they made for her out of warm water and Jolly Ranchers (her favorites), Skittles, or M&amp;Ms, whatever candy she brought with her on her visit.In addition to her husband, Elsie is survived by her four sons and daughters-in-law - Jeremy (Caroline), Chicago, IL; Nelson (Nancy), McLean, VA; Derek (Maria), Naples, FL; and Schuyler (Kathleen), Cookson, OK. She is survived by ten grandchildren: Tierney (Jillian), Grinnell, IA; Connor, Brooklyn, NY; Johanna Braunsdorf (Michael), Seattle, WA; Malena, Los Angeles, CA; Matthew, Charlottesville, VA; Solenne, Chicago, IL; and Cameron and Graham of Chicago, IL. She is also survived by her sister, Ramona Binci, of Conway, AR, and many nephews, nieces, grandnephews and grandnieces. She was preceded in death by her parents, her sister Margaret, and her brother Harry.A private service will be held at Sunshine Meadows Retirement Community in Buhler. A private burial will be held at Lorraine Avenue Cemetery. Joan N. Finney, 79, died November 21, 2023, at her home in Galva, Kansas.

She was born June 24, 1944, on the Big Island of Hawaii, the daughter of Ted and Gladys Rankin. She graduated from McPherson High School in 1962. On December 16, 1966, Joan was united in marriage to Garron D. Finney in McPherson. Garron preceded her in death in 2003.

A life-long resident of McPherson, she worked for many years at Rankin Equipment Co., and later retired from The Cedars, McPherson.

Many of Joan’s years were spent working hard at her job, home, and at everything she did. Her free time was spent at the lake with family and friends, at bowling league, or visiting with her best friends; Marilyn, Jenny, and Bonnie. Joan also made holidays a special time with great food, gifts, and all the homemade candy you could imagine. And how she did it we will never know, but a card for EVERY holiday and birthday and always on time!

Survivors include: son, Kyle Finney (Bonnie), of Moundridge, KS; daughter, Janae Finney-Wagner of Kingman, KS; brother, Thomas "Tom" Rankin (Patti), of Clackamas, OR; five grandchildren, Paige Finney-Conquest (Dustin), Amber Finney­ Hiebert (Brian), Faith Finney, Justin Finney, and John Wagner; three great-­grandchildren, Natalee and Brynlee Conquest, and Ezra Hiebert.

She was preceded in death by her parents and son, Kenny L. Ballard (1985).

John Matous, 91, of Wichita, KS, died November 24, 2023, after suffering from a fall. &nbsp;He was born in Lincoln, NE, on January 7, 1932, and was the third child of Stanley and Rose Matous.&nbsp;

John graduated from Wichita North High School in 1951 and married his high school sweetheart, Elda Marie Thomison, in 1951. &nbsp;In 1954, John and Elda made a decision that changed their lives. &nbsp;He decided to go to college and attended Pittsburg State Teachers College where he also played quarterback and led the Gorillas to two conference titles and one national championship. &nbsp;John graduated from PSU in 1958 and pursued a career in education and of course coaching. &nbsp;He taught and coached in several places, including: &nbsp;Adrian, MO, Udall, KS, Larned, KS, and finally at Hutchinson Community Junior College, where he eventually retired in 1992. &nbsp;John was very proud to be the head coach of the Hutchinson Blue Dragon football team for 15 years. &nbsp;He said that he was privileged to have coached some great players and even more great men! &nbsp;John’s overall record was 96-50-6, and in 1969, his team went 11-0 and won the Sterling Bowl. &nbsp;He was inducted into the Hutchinson Community College Quarterback Club Hall of Fame in 2000, and into the Wichita Sports Hall of Fame in 2012.

After retiring from coaching, John and Elda decided to stay in Hutchinson to raise their family. &nbsp;He was a physical education teacher at HCC and continued to add new curriculum to that program. &nbsp;Courses such as: weight lifting, karate, racquetball, camp counseling, and even a winter survival class. &nbsp;John was constantly looking for ways to create opportunities for young adults to be better, smarter, and stronger. &nbsp;

He loved football and he loved his friends, but most of all, he loved his family! &nbsp;John lived a wonderful and full life, and will be missed by all those whose lives he touched!

John was preceded in death by his wife of 64 years, Elda Marie Matous, who died in 2015.&nbsp;

He is survived by: &nbsp;his children, Linda (Sach) Mathur, Ken (Ruth) Matous, and Judy (David) Hogan; grandchildren, Brett (Alex) Hogan, Lindsay Hogan, Kendall (Chip) Schellhorn, and Kris (Bethany) Mathur; great-grandchildren, Caroline Schellhorn, Ellie Schellhorn, and Bridgett Mathur; and brother, Jim (Naomi) Matous.

Roxann Louise Rutherford, 74, of Hutchinson, died November 26, 2023, at Hospice House. She was born January 15, 1949, in Hutchinson, to Earl A. and Helen M. (Youngberg) Fenwick.

Roxann graduated from Buhler High School and attended Hutchinson Community College. In addition to being a homemaker, she had worked as a receptionist at Lowen Sign Company, then in shipping at Gregory Sign Company, and then as a clerk at Hobby Lobby for 10 years. Roxann enjoyed reading, sewing, knitting, needlepoint, and crafts. She was a member of New Covenant Presbyterian Church.

On August 18, 1969, Roxann married Raymond E. Rutherford, in Hutchinson. He survives.

Also surviving are: her sons, Karl Rutherford (Marilee) of Chicago, IL, Kevin Rutherford of Chicago, IL, Kurtis Rutherford (Mary Johnston-Rutherford) of New York City, NY; grandchildren, Finley Rutherford, Aurora Rutherford; brother, Ronald Fenwick (Marsha) of Buhler, and several extended family members.

She was preceded in death by her parents.
