On May 22, 2024, Wanda Faye Thompson, age 91, passed away at Attica Long Term Care. Wanda was born March 7, 1933, in Iuka, KS to Orval and Ermal (Tillery) Parker.
Wanda graduated from Byers High School in 1951. She married Bill Hager in 1952. To this union three children were born: William Kent “Bill”, Brenda Lovelle, and Michael Eugene (Mike). They later divorced.
Wanda worked for the Pratt County Extension Office for 17 ½ years. She met Earl Thompson at the VFW and on September 14, 1981, they married in Alva, OK. They lived in Great Bend and Ellinwood, KS, where Wanda worked for the District Court System for 11 ½ years before retiring in March 1955 to care for Earl’s dad, Donald, in Rogers, AR. Wanda was very active in the VFW Post 3031 Rogers, AR, where she held several offices, including President of the Ladies Auxiliary. Wanda and Earl moved back to Kansas in May 2011 to be closer to family.
She is survived by her daughter, Brenda (Roy) Briggeman of Emporia, KS; son, Mike Hager of Rogers, AR; brother, Bill (Deanna) Parker of Cunningham, KS; stepsons, Randy (Lisa) Thompson of Sharon, KS and Robert Thompson of Medicine Lodge, KS; stepdaughter Cathy (Mike) Dunn of Leavenworth, KS; numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren; nieces and nephews.
Wanda is preceded in death by her husband, Earl, March 2024; her parents; sister, Orvaleen Post; brothers, Shirley, Dwane, Robert and Ramon Parker; ex-husband, Bill Hager and son, William Kent Hager.
Wanda never met a stranger and always had a smile on her. She was feisty and funny and loved to tease. She was loved by many and will be greatly missed by all who knew her.
Cremation has taken place. There will be a Memorial Service at a later date in Isabel, KS. Care and arrangements have been entrusted to Hutchinson Funeral Chapel.
