Evelyn Ann Butts passed away on Wednesday, September 13, 2023, at Reflection Living, Hutchinson, following a long illness. She was born in Hutchinson on January 6, 1936, to Everett and Esther (Chase) Reed. The youngest of four children, Evelyn attended Hutchinson schools and graduated from Hutchinson High School in 1954.&nbsp;

She married Kimble Walters in 1955. They later divorced. They had five children who were Evelyn’s entire world. That world crumbled when her oldest child, Terry, died of cancer at age 16, a loss from which she never truly recovered. Evelyn attended Adela Hale Business School in the early 1980s. She had several jobs over the years, including Kress’s Department Store while she was in high school. Later, she worked as a retail associate at JC Penney, housekeeper at Mennonite Manor and the Hutchinson Hospital, and circulation manager at the Hutchinson News where she met Don Butts. Evelyn and Don married in 1982 and enjoyed many years of traveling to softball games where he was an umpire. They also enjoyed traveling around the country, and particularly enjoyed their trips to Idaho, Arizona, California, Tennessee, and Texas. She and Don ran a trophy business called Awards Plus. &nbsp;Don passed away in 2014.&nbsp;

Evelyn loved reading and doing jigsaw puzzles. She was a talented artist and enjoyed drawing as well as oil painting. Evelyn also enjoyed doing many types of crafts including crocheting. She was also a talented seamstress, and sewed many clothes for her kids and herself while they were growing up. She was always interested in learning new things, including computer software and technology. While in her 60s, she taught herself to use accounting software which she used for the trophy business. More recently, she had an iPhone and iPad and was excited to learn all the features for using them. Evelyn used a motorized wheelchair for the last 20 years of her life, but it never slowed her down. In fact, it was often joked that you had better look out when she was coming, because her chair only had one speed - fast. She was a social creature and loved talking with people. &nbsp;Evelyn made close friends with many of those who took care of her at Mennonite Manor and later at Reflection Living. &nbsp;She was a person who wore her heart on her sleeve. You never had to wonder where you stood with her. If Evelyn loved you, she did it with her whole heart and being. If she wasn’t fond of something or someone, well, let’s just say she made that clear, too. One of her favorite things was attending the Kansas State Fair every year and she took pride in saying that she had only missed one fair in her life and that was only because it was shut down during the pandemic. Evelyn loved sparkly jewelry and anything with “bling”. She enjoyed getting her nails done with bright metallic colors. On walks with her family, Evelyn often looked for butterflies and collected feathers that she would find on the ground. &nbsp;She felt that they were messages of love from Terry and Don. &nbsp;So, the next time you are out walking, look for a feather, a butterfly, or even an interesting rock in her memory. &nbsp;She would love that.&nbsp;

Evelyn is survived by: her sister, Darline Barnhart, Tucson, AZ; children, Brad Walters of Hutchinson, Lisa (Brian) Webster of Hutchinson, Kara Walters of Lawrence, Lorna (Mike) Wyer of Hutchinson, Alan (Donna) Butts of Puyallup Washington, and Elaine Boese, Marysville; grandchildren (all of Hutchinson except where noted), Angie (Sean) Jones, Becky (Josh) Flax of Eudora, Brandon (Elise) Walters, BreAnne (Patrick) Edwards, Derek Walters, Holly Caudillo, Jeremy (Heather) Caudillo, and Rickie (Jessie) Caudillo; numerous great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren; and dear friend of many years, Dorce Stapleton of Hutchinson.&nbsp;

She was preceded in death by: her husband, Don; sons, Terry Walters and Chuck Butts; son-in-law Rick Boese; brother, Don Reed; sister, Pauline Phelps; and grandsons, Aaron Walters and Steven Curtis-Boese.

Memorial service will be 10 a.m. Wednesday, September 20, 2023, at Elliott Mortuary, with the Reverend Lennie Maxwell officiating. &nbsp;Burial will follow in Fairlawn Burial Park, Hutchinson. &nbsp;Friends may sign the book from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Saturday at Elliott Mortuary. Evelyn Ann Butts |1936-2023|

Phyllis Elizabeth Webber, 101, of Kingman, died September 13, 2023, at Kingman Healthcare Center. Born Phyllis Elizabeth Bourbina on February 28, 1922, in Abilene, she was the 4th child born to George Earl and Mary Irene (Weir) Bourbina. Along with her brother, Earl Edwin Bourbina, Phyllis was adopted by James A. and Catherine M. Hollister on October 28, 1924, in Dickinson County. She became known as Phylis Elizabeth Hollister. The children were physically abused and were returned to the Child Rescue and Orphan Society of the Church of the Brethren in Darlow. Phylis and Earl were adopted from the orphanage on May 6, 1925, by Earl and Bobbie Anna (Starks) Ewing, and she became Phyllis Elizabeth Ewing and her brother became Earl Albert Ewing.

Phyllis was raised in Arlington, where she attended grade school and high school. After graduating from high school, Phyllis married Roy E. Webber on June 2, 1940, and they lived on a farm south of Arlington and eventually moved to Arlington. He died March 3, 2017.

Phyllis was a homemaker and a great cook who kept a clean and organized home – no clutter there! Wherever Phyllis lived was very neat and tidy. Throughout her life, Phyllis belonged to various clubs and organizations. She kept the books for Roy’s construction business. Phyllis was an avid reader and watched current news and weather reports. She loved to study the scriptures and Biblical prophecy.

Phyllis is survived by: her two daughters, Kay Fountain (Jack) of Arlington and Jean Richert (Willi) of Valley Center; grandchildren, Jeff Fountain (Debbie) of Arlington, Angela Androes (Nelson) of Durham, NC, Tiffani Sorrells (James MacKay) of Wichita, Kristofer Richert of Park City; great-grandchildren, Michelle Stewart (Trevor), Sean Stejskal, Tyler Stejskal (Krista), Brennan O'Callaghan, and Ariana Sorrells.

She was preceded in death by her parents and brother.

Funeral service will be 10 a.m. Saturday, September 16, 2023, at Elliott Chapel. Burial will follow in Arlington Cemetery. The service will be livestreamed and the link to view it below will be active at 9:45 a.m. the day of the service

Evelyn ‘Eve’ Marie Rude, 62, died September 8, 2023, at her home in Arlington. She was born November 8, 1960, in Salina, to Don Knox and Mary (Jones) Knox.

Eve attended Salina Central North High School and shortly after graduation, she joined the United Sates Marine Corps. After serving her country, Eve became a homemaker, dedicating her time to her family.

Eve enjoyed crocheting, knitting, gardening, taking naps and playing her piano. In addition, she fostered children for many years and cared very well for every one of them.

On July 28, 1980, she married Steven Lee Rude, in Havelock, NC. He survives.

Also surviving are: children, Steven Clark, Casie Rude, Starla Rude, Joshua Rude, Samuel Loomis; grandchildren, Ashlyn Lahman, Makayla ‘KK’ and Joseph ‘JJ’ Batemon Jr., Aurora McClintic, Renesmae Wright, Julien Wright, Kade Lee Weston Rude; 9 brothers; and 4 sisters. &nbsp;

Don Parker Exposito, 76, of Hutchinson, died September 10, 2023, at Wesley Medical Center in Wichita. He was born April 27, 1947, in Monett, MO, to Benjamin and Dorothy (Allen) Exposito.

Parker graduated from Hutchinson High School in 1965 and was attending Fort Hays State University when he was drafted into the U.S. Army. Parker served in Vietnam from 1967-1969 and was awarded the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Combat Infantry Badge, Army Commendation Medal, and Vietnam Campaign Medal. After his discharge, Parker became a jeweler and owned Alexander’s Jewelers “on the diamond corner” for many years. He loved work, family, golf, Miller Lite, his customers, and his “Geezer Group” meetings in Alexander’s back room. Parker was a member of American Legion Lyle Rishel Post #68.

On February 14, 1999, he married Beverly J. (Smith) Soldi, in Las Vegas, NV. She survives.

Also surviving are: his daughters, Cherish Pulliam (Ty) and Hope Neal (Brian Miller), all of Hutchinson; stepson, Joshua Morgan of Grand Rapids, MI; stepdaughter, Stasha Gifford of Topeka; grandchildren, Nathan Pulliam of Hutchinson, Shazia Myers of Great Bend, Quinten Pulliam of Hutchinson, Jaden Gifford of Wichita, Lizzie Neal and Andrew Neal of Hutchinson, Logan Morgan of Grand Rapids, MI; 3 great-grandchildren; 2 step-great-grandchildren; brother, Lynn Exposito (Norma) of Partridge; sister, Peggy Kilpatrick of Partridge; 2 nephews; numerous other beloved family members and close friends.

Cremation has taken place. Celebration of Life service will be 2 p.m. Saturday, September 16, 2023, at Elliott Chapel. Military honors will be conducted by Fort Riley Honor Guard.

Don Parker Exposito |1947-2023|

Willis Ray Blaylock, 75, of Moundridge, Kansas, passed away Tuesday, September 12, 2023 at Pine Village surrounded by family. He was born November 19, 1947 in McCurtain, Oklahoma, the son of Joe H. and Leanna M. (Porter) Blaylock.

He graduated from Abilene High School with the class of 1965. Willis later enlisted in the United States Navy where he served in the Vietnam War from 1967 until 1970, attaining the rank of Aviation Machinist’s Mate, 3rd class.

Willis was united in marriage to Donna Lee Koelling on November 28, 1966 in Abilene, Kansas. She survives of the home after almost 57 years of marriage.

He worked as a Plant Manager for the Bradbury Company for 25 years, retiring in 2013.

His most enjoyable time was spent with his grandkids and great-grandkids. Willis enjoyed fishing, hunting, racing, riding motorcycles and watching Nascar races. He also raised horses and boxer dogs.

He is survived by his wife, Donna Blaylock of Moundridge; son, Ron (Whitney) Blaylock of Moundridge; daughter, Nicole (Michael) Murphy of Wichita; eight grandchildren, Aaron (KaSarah) Blaylock, Steven (Olivia) Blaylock, Jordin (Matraca) Smith, Haley Smith (Derek Carlson), Devin (Makayla) Williams, Justin (Jasmine) Smith, Kyler Blaylock (Jacob Burkett), and Nate Martens; 13 great-grandchildren, plus one on the way; sister, Joann (Bob) Corder of Moundridge; and brothers, Dennis (Diane) Blaylock of Newton, Kenneth Blaylock of Yale, OK, and Tim (Melissa) Blaylock of Moundridge.

Willis was preceded in death by his parents; sister-in-law, Sandy Blaylock; and uncle, Jimmy Porter.

Family will greet friends from 4 to 8 p.m., Saturday, September 16, 2023 at Moundridge Funeral Home. Cremation will follow with a private inurnment to take place later with military honors. He was born November 19, 1947 in McCurtain, Oklahoma, the son of Joe H. and Leanna M. (Porter) Blaylock.He graduated from Abilene High School with the class of 1965. Willis later enlisted in the United States Navy where he served in the Vietnam War from 1967 until 1970, attaining the rank of Aviation Machinist’s Mate, 3rd class.Willis was united in marriage to Donna Lee Koelling on November 28, 1966 in Abilene, Kansas. She survives of the home after almost 57 years of marriage.He worked as a Plant Manager for the Bradbury Company for 25 years, retiring in 2013.His most enjoyable time was spent with his grandkids and great-grandkids. Willis enjoyed fishing, hunting, racing, riding motorcycles and watching Nascar races. He also raised horses and boxer dogs.He is survived by his wife, Donna Blaylock of Moundridge; son, Ron (Whitney) Blaylock of Moundridge; daughter, Nicole (Michael) Murphy of Wichita; eight grandchildren, Aaron (KaSarah) Blaylock, Steven (Olivia) Blaylock, Jordin (Matraca) Smith, Haley Smith (Derek Carlson), Devin (Makayla) Williams, Justin (Jasmine) Smith, Kyler Blaylock (Jacob Burkett), and Nate Martens; 13 great-grandchildren, plus one on the way; sister, Joann (Bob) Corder of Moundridge; and brothers, Dennis (Diane) Blaylock of Newton, Kenneth Blaylock of Yale, OK, and Tim (Melissa) Blaylock of Moundridge.Willis was preceded in death by his parents; sister-in-law, Sandy Blaylock; and uncle, Jimmy Porter.Family will greet friends from 4 to 8 p.m., Saturday, September 16, 2023 at Moundridge Funeral Home. Lisa Ann Kilpatrick, 64, died August 21, 2023 at her residence in Hutchinson. She was born April 14, 1959, in Hutchinson, to Walter Watt and Patricia Ann (Zordel) Kilpatrick.

Lisa graduated from Hutchinson High School in 1977. She worked as a meat processor for Doskocil Manufacturing for many years.

In her earlier years, Lisa enjoyed playing pool, dancing and having a good time. She was full of life.

Lisa is survived by: her siblings, Michael Kilpatrick of Hutchinson, Walter Kilpatrick of Hutchinson, Debra Shank of Hutchinson, John Kilpatrick of Texas; nieces, Megan Burrell of Georgia, Melissa Hayes and Michelle Vakulenko of Hutchinson; aunt, JoAnn Schussler; and numerous great nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

Janice ‘Jan’ Lynette Stiggins Landon Richardson, 77, died September 8, 2023, at Hutchinson Regional Medical Center. She was born August 2, 1946 in Hutchinson, the daughter of Max Lynn and Clara Naomi (O’ Hara) Stiggins.

Jan was a 1964 graduate of Partridge Rural High School. She had three careers, first as a finance company manager for 20 years, then as a volunteer coordinator for CASA for 12 years, and lastly retiring as a district manager of the Reno County Conservation District after 17 years of service.

Jan had many passions and hobbies in her lifetime. She loved genealogy, scrapbooking, collecting Pez, Star Wars, M&amp;Ms and McDonald’s happy meal toys. She was an avid KC Royals, KC Chiefs, and NASCAR fan. Topping everything, she loved spending time with her grandchildren and great- grandchildren. Jan was currently a member of Partridge Community Church.

On April 1, 1965, Jan married Perry Landon. They later divorced. She then married Dean Richardson on July 4, 1987 in Partridge. They shared 35 great years of marriage, prior to his death on July 31, 2022.

Jan is survived by: her son, Terry (Toni) Landon of Hutchinson; grandchildren, Jessica (Greg) Woodyard, Turner Landon (fiancé Kaylee) of Hutchinson; great- grandchildren, Jovie Harrison, Jhett and Jagson Woodyard of Hutchinson; sister, Vicki (Brad) Galloway of Partridge; special sisters, Gwen Brown and Mary Winter of Hutchinson; special brother, Walt Burling of Partridge; dog, Princess Leia; grand dog, Maverick; great- grand dog, Ice; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

She was preceded in death by: her husband, Dean; parents, Lynn and Naomi Stiggins; sister, Ginger Stiggins; special aunts, Jeaneen Taplin and Virginia Packebush; canine companions, Byron and Chewbacca.

Elizabeth Rene Bailey, 33, of McPherson, Kansas, passed away Monday, September 11, 2023 at Wesley Medical Center in Wichita.

Elizabeth was born in Topeka, Kansas on June 10, 1990, the daughter of Stephen and Connie (Sitts) Bailey.

Elizabeth attended Roosevelt grade school, McPherson Junior High and McPherson High School. She then attended Hutchinson Community College, where she earned her Associates Degree in Business.

Through the years she worked as a restaurant manager. Elizabeth enjoyed fishing, camping, and spending time with her friends and family.

She is survived by her mother, Connie Bailey (David Swick) of McPherson, Kansas; fiancé, Erik Ward of Enid, Oklahoma; step daughter, Sonya Metzger of Hutchinson, Kansas; grandmother, Elizabeth Alejos of Kansas City, Kansas; and many aunts, uncles, cousins and close friends.

Elizabeth was preceded in death by her father, Stephen Bailey and her sister Aspen.

Linda L. (Niedens) Banz, 78, died September 9, 2023, at Legend of Hutchinson. She was born August 8, 1945, in Dodge City, to Leo Alexander and Elsie Louise (Maier) Niedens. &nbsp; &nbsp;

Linda grew up on a farm between Dodge City and Jetmore. &nbsp;After graduating Dodge City High School in 1963, she attended Adela Hale School of Business in Hutchinson. &nbsp;Upon graduation from business college, Linda worked as a secretary at Far-Mar-Co, then located in the downtown Hutchinson Wiley building. &nbsp;She was a lightning-fast typist with mad shorthand skills. &nbsp;Far-Mar-Co merged with Farmland and Linda was promoted to various accounting positions. &nbsp;She retired from Doskocil/Tyson, where she managed accounts payable.

Linda enjoyed following many sports, including car racing, football, basketball, and her number one team, the Kansas State Wildcats. &nbsp;Art fairs, shopping, traveling, and maintaining a meticulous home were also some of her other enjoyments. &nbsp;Linda was a member of First Presbyterian Church, Hutchinson.&nbsp;

On February 4, 1973, Linda married Gary Joseph Banz, in Hutchinson. They shared 50 years of marriage before he died March 11, 2023.&nbsp;

Linda is survived by: &nbsp;stepson, Brad Banz (Angie); siblings, Lonnie Niedens (Kathy) and Loetta Walker (Sonny); step grandchildren, Kyle Banz (Savanna) and Melissa Myer (Vernon); five step-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.&nbsp;

Sally had a gift in helping others, even strangers. &nbsp;She was a member of First Christian Church, Hutchinson.

Sally married Jimmie Lloyd Beltz, Sr. November 1965, in Hutchinson. &nbsp;They raised three children, and remained friendly, even after they were no longer married.&nbsp;

Sally is survived by: children Vena Flax (Doug) of Aurora, CO; Larry Beltz (Marquette) of South Hutchinson and daughter in-law, JuliAnna Zimmerman of Wichita; granddaughter, Samantha Beltz; brother, Bob Barney (Linda) of Greensburg; and granddog, Max.

Randy Eugene “Jake” Preble, 71, died September 10, 2023, at his home in Greensburg, Kansas. He was born May 11, 1952, in El Dorado, Kansas, the son of Robert Preble and Betty Maxine (Cole) Hogan. Jake grew up and attended school in Neodesha, Kansas, moving to Greensburg in 1968 and graduated from Greensburg High School in 1970.  He was a Controls Technician for Panhandle Eastern Pipeline Company, retiring after 40 years. He also served as an EMT for a time. Jake was a Boy Scout Leader, Sunday school teacher at the First Christian Church, and a member of the Faith Tabernacle Church, all in Greensburg. 

On October 2, 1970, Jake married Relena Acre in Greensburg. She survives. Jake and Relena met each other while they were in high school. Their favorite hangout spots were the Gulf gas station and Sadie’s Cream Cup.  Jake worked part time at the Gulf gas station while in high school.  Jake loved being around family and friends. He enjoyed playing tennis, softball, and bowling. Jake took his family snow skiing during the winter.  He liked watching NASCAR, and KU basketball.  He always listened to oldies music and loved to play the drums.  Flying kites was one of his favorite hobbies while being with his kids and grandkids. 

 Other survivors include two sons Shawn Preble and Rocky Preble, both of Greensburg, three daughters Laura Gwin and husband Bob, Haviland, Kansas, Darline Spitulski and husband Bryan, California, Ashley Gottschalk and husband Trent, Logan, Kansas, thirteen Grandchildren Megan Gwin, Vincent Gwin, Samantha Gwin, Stephanie (Gwin) Conrad, John Gwin, Camille, Taden, Conner, and Tenille Gottschalk, Reese Spitulski, Alissa Skipper, Zach Spitulski, Austin Spitulski, two Great-grandchildren Kayden Buettner and Audrey Gwin, Jake had two special nephews Joe Acre and Levi Smith, Greensburg. One brother Ronnie (Dean) Preble and wife Shirley, Tacoma, Washington. 

Jake was preceded in death by his parents Robert Preble and Betty (Cole) Hogan, and two brothers Robert and Michael Preble.

He was born June 4, 1943 in Newton Kansas to Dorris Baldwin and Melvin Farquer. He was a life long resident of Newton, Kansas. Ray served in the U.S. Army and is a Vietnam War Era Veteran. He is a life member of American Legion Post No 2 and Veterans of Foreign Post No 2715.&nbsp; He enjoyed woodworking, making and redoing furniture. He enjoyed working on puzzles since Covid 19, and enjoyed drinking coffee with his buddies. Loved his dog Ranger.

Ray is survived by his wife Judy Farquer, daughters Pam Barden &amp; husband Bobby Barden, Dawn Petterson &amp; husband Steve Petterson, sister Kaye Jaso &amp; husband John Jaso; 9 grandchildren, 21 great grandchildren, and 1 great-great grandchild. Barbara Figueroa Garcia, 92, of Hutchinson, passed away on Friday, September 8, 2023, in Hutchinson, KS.

Barbara was born on March 4, 1931 in Hutchinson, the daughter of Severino and Rosa (Perez) Figueroa. She was a lifelong resident of Hutchinson. Barbara worked for Borton, Inc. in purchasing, bookkeeping and payroll, and later worked for Carey Salt in packaging. She was a lifelong member of Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church in South Hutchinson. Barbara showered her grandchildren with immense love and care, and was like a second mother to them more than a grandmother. She was never one to lounge around; she always kept busy and was an excellent homemaker. Barbara enjoyed putting puzzles together, sewing and gardening. She also loved listening to music and was an excellent dancer. &nbsp;

Survivors include her children, Glenn (Glenna) Garcia, Leticia Garcia, Manuel (Robin) Garcia, Jr. and Estela Garcia; brother, Ignacio Figueroa; eight grandchildren, René (Ami) Alvidrez, Omar (Lauren) Alvidrez, Monica (Jon) Scibilia, Matthew (Marcy Mendoza) Garcia, Taylor (Austin) Comer, Curtis Garcia, Evan Lumbreras and Monet Lumbreras; and 12 great grandchildren, Alec Alvidrez, Adrian Garcia, Olivia Alvidrez, Emily Alvidrez, Lucia Garcia, Mateo Garcia, Amiah Garcia, Mayla Scibilia, Ryan Alvidrez, Gianni Scibilia, Mateo Comer and Miguel Comer.&nbsp;

Byron Keith Spore, 76, passed away peacefully on September 7, 2023 surrounded by family. Byron was born on June 18, 1947 in Newton, Kansas to Arnold K. &amp; Eileen E. (Unruh) Spore. He was a life-long resident of the Newton area &amp; was a graduate of Halstead High School. 

After graduation, Byron served in the Army National Guard &amp; then served two years of active duty in the Army.&nbsp;In November of 1972, Byron married the love of his life, Enid (Dee) Smith, in Halstead, Kansas. They celebrated 50 years of marriage in 2022.&nbsp;Byron was an avid hunter &amp; fisherman &amp; enjoyed being surrounded by nature. After retirement, he enjoyed travelling the country by RV. Byron especially enjoyed the Texas hill country where there were many deer. At Canyon Lake, one doe &amp; her fawn would visit the campsite daily for food. The doe, which Byron affectionately called Minnie Mouse for her small frame &amp; large ears, would eat out of his hand. Apart from the great outdoors, Byron loved antique cars and going to car shows.&nbsp;

Byron is survived by his spouse, Dee, of the home; children Justin (Jessica H.) Spore of Haysville, Jennifer Young of Newton, &amp; Jessica (Mike) Ray of Newton; grandchildren Jacey Spore of Haysville, Jonah (Jessica D.) Spore of Goessel, Isobel Young, Jaxson Young, Emma Ray, &amp; Sophie Ray all of Newton; great grandchild Brooklyn Spore of Goessel; sister Sharon Spore Pepper of Wichita; four nephews, 2 nieces, and many great &amp; great-great nieces and nephews; many other family and friends.&nbsp;Byron is preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Janice Lee.

Dorothy M. Zongker, 88, passed away peacefully on Saturday, September 9, 2023 at Sandstone Heights in Little River, KS. She was born November 23, 1934, in Hartman, CO, the daughter of William Floyd and Ruth Alma (Lambert) Kelley.&nbsp;

Dorothy graduated from Greensburg High School in 1952 and worked for USD 300 as the secretary and retired after 20 years.&nbsp; On July 13, 1952, she married Elven Zongker in Ulysses, KS.&nbsp; She was a member of the NARFE.&nbsp; Dorothy loved spending time with her family.&nbsp; She had many interests and hobbies.&nbsp; She spent a lot of her free time sewing and had made quilts for her children and grandchildren.&nbsp; One of her hobby of the year was “Rabbits”.&nbsp; Dorothy and Elven were avid square dancers and were members of the Kiowa County Kickers Club.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Dorothy is preceded by her parents; her husband, Elven; and a sister, Margaret Huey.&nbsp;

She is survived by her two sons, Randall (Susan) Zongker and Kirk (Kathy) Zongker; two daughters, Debra Erxleben and Shana (Jesse) Burgess; one sister, Doris Allen; nine grandchildren, Amanda (Joshua) Linnell, Sarah (Preston) Snider, Adam (Jessica) Zongker, Molly (Pippin) Williamson, Luke (Jessica) Zongker, Grace (Lane) Wiens, Faith Zongker, Nathan (Kellie) Lawless, and Loren (Kate) Lawless; and 18 great grandchildren.&nbsp;

Wilma Ruth Sweet, 94, died on September 8, 2023, at Pleasant Hills, Hutchinson. She was born July 17, 1929, in Vista, Missouri, to John Logan and Nellie (Kelley) Peery.

Wilma graduated high school in Missouri and went on to earn her associates degree. She was an administrative assistant for many years at USD 308. Wilma was very family oriented and loved spending time with her children and grandchildren. She had the opportunity to travel and live many places while her husband served in the United States Army, including Germany and Africa.

On December 28, 1950, Wilma married Floyd Wallace Sweet. He passed on November 16, 2001.

She is survived by: sons, John Sweet (Gwen) Peel, Arkansas, Robert Sweet, Hutchinson; daughter, Mary Sweet, Hutchinson; 12 grandchildren; and 27 great-grandchildren; 3 great-great-grandchildren.

Wilma was preceded in death by: her parents; husband; brother, Warren Peery; and sister, Nadine (Peery) Perkins.

Funeral service will be 1 pm Monday, September 11, 2023, at Elliott Mortuary. Burial will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery.

Wilma Ruth Sweet |1929-2023|

Kelly Lynn Thiessen, 68, passed away September 6, 2023, at Hospice House, Hutchinson. He was born January 31, 1955, in McPherson, the son of Vernon and Helen Knackstedt Thiessen. He attended Plainview School 1st - 6th grade, Coutryside school 7th-8th grade, and was a 1973 graduate of Inman High School. He then graduated from Salina VoTech. A resident of Inman all of his life, he had worked for Hesston Corporation, drove truck for Dillon's Stores and was a self-employed truck driver for ALA Transportation. He was a life long dairy farmer. He was a member of Bethel Mennonite Church, Inman Jaycees, and was on the Inman Volunteer Fire Department. He married Gayleen Blackburn on June 6, 1998 in Hutchinson. She survives.

Other survivors include daughters, Sarah (Tim) Gaynor, Newton and Anna Ohle, Inman; sons, Jacob Thiessen, Inman and Jarrod (Ashley) Blackburn, Marshfield, WI; brothers, Loren (Ginger) Thiessen, Inman, Allen Thiessen, McPherson, Wes (Ann) Thiessen, Hutchinson, and Merle (Karen) Thiessen, Inman; sister, Karen (Grady) Cooper, McPherson, and grandchildren, Hailey and T. J. Gaynor, Kayden Ohle, Ella, Max, Piper, and Brigg Thiessen, and Tayson Blackburn.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his mother and father in law, Derald and Charleen Thomas.

Per his wishes, cremation will take place. Family will gather to greet friends from 5-7 PM Friday, September 22, 2023 at Bethel Mennonite Church. Graveside services will take place 10:00 AM Saturday, September 23, 2023 at North Inman Cemetery. A Celebration of Life service will follow at 11:00 AM at Bethel Mennonite Church. He attended Plainview School 1st - 6th grade, Coutryside school 7th-8th grade, and was a 1973 graduate of Inman High School. He then graduated from Salina VoTech. A resident of Inman all of his life, he had worked for Hesston Corporation, drove truck for Dillon's Stores and was a self-employed truck driver for ALA Transportation. He was a life long dairy farmer. He was a member of Bethel Mennonite Church, Inman Jaycees, and was on the Inman Volunteer Fire Department. He married Gayleen Blackburn on June 6, 1998 in Hutchinson. She survives.Other survivors include daughters, Sarah (Tim) Gaynor, Newton and Anna Ohle, Inman; sons, Jacob Thiessen, Inman and Jarrod (Ashley) Blackburn, Marshfield, WI; brothers, Loren (Ginger) Thiessen, Inman, Allen Thiessen, McPherson, Wes (Ann) Thiessen, Hutchinson, and Merle (Karen) Thiessen, Inman; sister, Karen (Grady) Cooper, McPherson, and grandchildren, Hailey and T. J. Gaynor, Kayden Ohle, Ella, Max, Piper, and Brigg Thiessen, and Tayson Blackburn.He was preceded in death by his parents and his mother and father in law, Derald and Charleen Thomas.Per his wishes, cremation will take place. Family will gather to greet friends from 5-7 PM Friday, September 22, 2023 at Bethel Mennonite Church. Lloyd Klassen, 88, passed away September 8, 2023 at Hillsboro Community Hospital in Hillsboro. 

 He was born January 16, 1935 in Hillsboro to Sam and Hulda (Plett) Klassen.  He married Evalina Hodel August 24, 1954 at the Hillsboro M.B. Church in Hillsboro. 

 Survivors include: wife, Evalina Klassen of rural Hillsboro; sons, Delton (Denice) Klassen of Halstead, Dale (Kay) Klassen of rural Hillsboro; daughters, Brenda (Tom) Frantz of Lincoln, Nebraska, Diane (Jonathan) Loewen of Hutchinson; 15 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren. 

 Predeceased by his two brothers, Virgil and Jerry Klassen.

Lloyd Klassen |1935-2023|

Velma May Harts, 91, died September 4, 2023, at Good Samaritan Society, Hutchinson, KS. She was born April 3, 1932, on the family farm in Marquette, to George and Georgia (Hoffman) Campbell.

On July 30, 1949, Velma married Richard Harts in Ellsworth county. &nbsp;Together they managed several gas stations in McPherson before moving to Hutchinson in 1962 and continued managing gas stations. After Richard’s passing in 1979, Velma worked as a nurse’s aide at local nursing homes. She was a hard worker and helped manage the 4th &amp; Whiteside Laundry with her daughter, retiring at age 85 when the laundromat was sold. She loved her grandchildren and her dog Boo.

Velma is survived by: daughters, Patty (Rick) Harts-Dunsworth and Ellen Lane, both of Hutchinson; son, Gary Harts of Kansas City, MO; grandchildren, Brian Dunsworth, Ryan Dunsworth, and Sara Bass Hutchinson and Chris Harts of Kansas City, MO; and sister, Margaret Morgart.

She was preceded in death by: her parents; husband; son, Lanny Harts; and siblings, Phyllis, Betty, George, Jack, Charles, Kenneth, Wayne, Joyce, and Marvin.

Cremation has taken place. No service will be held at this time.

Sharon Faye Shoemaker, 75, passed away peacefully on Thursday, September 7, 2023 at Hutchinson Regional Medical Center, Hutchinson, KS. She was born September 5, 1948, in Hutchinson, KS to Ernest and Virgie (Ratzlaff) Enns.

Sharon graduated from Hutchinson High School in 1966 and worked as a claims coordinator in the medical field. Sharon was a member of Christ Bible Church in Nickerson, KS for over 16 years. She loved being with her kids and grandchildren. She loved the Lord and went to weekly bible studies with friends.

Sharon is preceded by her parents; a son, Steven Starks; two brothers, Jim and Lee Enns; one sister, Delores Enns; and one nephew, Donnie Cogzill.

She is survived by her daughter, Valerie (Tracy) Cooper; a brother, Jerald (Diana) Enns; a sister, Lois Bowers; a daughter-in-law, Susan (Mark) Colson; two grandchildren, Sutton (Sarah) Starks and Sully (Melissa) Starks; two great grandchildren, Harlee and Harper Starks and several nieces and nephews.

Randy was born on September 6, 1961, in Concordia, KS, the son of Chester Marvin and Leora May (Schleuder) Gepner.&nbsp; He graduated from high school in Salt Lake City, UT.&nbsp; Randy was in the residential construction business.&nbsp;

Survivors include: his companion, Angelina Carpenter of McPherson, KS; daughters, Amber Cheesman (Matt) of McPherson, KS, Amy Price of White City, KS, and Alyssa Carpenter of McPherson, KS; six siblings, Carol Price of Bentonville, AR, Karen Kagle (George) of McPherson, KS, Steve Gepner of Moundridge, KS, Deanna Toland (Tim) of Bentonville, AR, Cynthia Power of Inman, KS, and Jeff Gepner (Freida) of Oklahoma; three grandchildren, Brycen Parker, Aryck Cheesman, and Zeke Price; and many nieces, nephews, and extended family members.&nbsp;

Randy Bruce Gepner |1961-2023|

Patricia Joyce Shelly, 71, of Newton, Kansas died Monday, September 4, 2023, at home after a 3-year struggle with pancreatic cancer.

She was born on December 21, 1951 in Chicago, Illinois, to Kenneth and June Rupert Shelly, while her father was in seminary. She lived in Pulaski, Iowa, and Trenton, Ohio, before moving to North Newton, Kansas. She was baptized in 1967 at Bethel College Mennonite Church.&nbsp; After graduating from Newton High School, she earned a degree in Bible and Religion from Bethel College (Kansas) in 1976.&nbsp;

Patricia moved to Denver and studied at Iliff School of Theology, completing a Masters of Divinity in 1980.&nbsp; After studying for eight months at the Ecumenical Institute for Advanced Theological Studies (Tantur) in Jerusalem in 1981, she returned to Denver and completed a PhD in Biblical Interpretation at the University of Denver/Iliff School of Theology in 1992.&nbsp; During part of that time, Patricia served as associate pastor at First Mennonite Church in Denver (1983-85) and was ordained as a Mennonite pastor.

For most of the next three decades, she taught at Bethel College in the Bible and Religion Department and served as campus minister for almost half of that time, with primary responsibility for chapel and worship. From 1996-2000, while on leave of absence from Bethel, she worked in Jerusalem with Mennonite Central Committee as the country director for MCC’s relief and development program in in the West Bank and Gaza.&nbsp; From 1986-2015, she led study tours to Israel/Palestine/Jordan, and in more recent years co-led joint Bethel/Tabor College tours to the same region with a colleague from Tabor College.

Patricia was a folk musician and composer, producing two albums and two songbooks. Several of her songs have appeared in Mennonite hymnals over the years.

She spoke (and sang) in numerous church and community settings about biblical studies as well as her time in Israel/Palestine. She also spoke extensively in the region about her participation in three meetings with Iranian political and religious leaders. The first meeting in 2007 of an ecumenical, Christian delegation to Iran was followed by two dialogues with Iranian officials in New York at the beginning of United Nations Assembly sessions.

She was involved in the broader Mennonite church, serving as Moderator of Western District Mennonite Conference and on the International Mennonite Peace Committee.&nbsp; She also served on the Mennonite Church USA Church board, spending the last two years as moderator of MC USA (2005-2017).

As an active member of Bethel College Mennonite Church, Patricia served on various committees as well as the church board and as moderator of the congregation.

Survivors include her mother, June Shelly, Newton; a sister, Doris (Arthur) Whillock, Newton; and two brothers, Andy (Carmen) Shelly of Lenexa, KS and Kenneth John Shelly (unknown); two nephews: William (Sarah) Whillock, Newton; Greg (Leah) Shelly-Unruh, Wichita; and niece, Lizzie Shelly (Kansas City); and many other extended family members and friends.

She was preceded in death by her father, Kenneth, and a brother, Timothy.
