William Gregory “Gregg” Easterling, 65, of Chase, Kansas, passed away May 27, 2024, at Denali National Park, Alaska.
He was born February 12, 1959, in Laurel, Mississippi, the son of Sidney and Sandra (Walters) Easterling.
Gregg has resided in Chase for the past twenty-one years, formerly of McPherson, Kansas, and Laurel, Mississippi. He graduated from EE Smith High School in Fayetteville, North Carolina.
Gregg worked at Superior Essex in Hoisington as a bulk line jacketing operator for eleven years, retiring in May of 2023. He was a member at the Community Presbyterian Church, Chase, where he also served as an elder. Gregg was an avid fisherman, who enjoyed all things nature. He was a lifelong Kansas City Chiefs fan, even when they were not the team to love.
If you couldn’t find him manicuring his lawn or watching a game, you could just about guarantee you could find him with his wife going to movies or concerts. Gregg loved his family fiercely and would have invited anyone in need into his home and generously cared for them. He loved his small community and serving them.
Gregg believed God called him to serve others the way Christ serves us. He loved Jesus and wanted everyone he knew to experience God’s unconditional love. On February 14, 2003, Gregg was united in marriage with Debbie Winkelman in Chase.
He is survived by his wife, Debbie of Chase, KS; three sons, William Easterling of Chase, KS, Jeff Winkelman of Chase, KS, and Lonnie Winkelman and wife Laurie of Lyons, KS; two daughters, Jessica Spohn and husband Phil of Newton, KS, and Michelle Williams of Overland Park, KS; sister, Joy McKnight and husband Jerry of Durham, NC; and nine grandchildren.
Gregg is preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Amber Marie Easterling; and sister, Cynthia Hamilton.
Funeral service will be at 11:00 A.M., Saturday, June 1, 2024, at Community Presbyterian Church, Chase, with Pastor Catherine Neely Burton officiating. The family request everyone wear Chiefs attire to the service. Burial will be at Chase Springdale Cemetery at a later date.
Memorials may be given to the Community Presbyterian Church or the City of Chase (for the Main Street park project) in care of Birzer Funeral Home. Lyons.
