INDEPENDENCE, Kan. — Hutchinson Community College could not withstand a big second-half surge from Independence on Tuesday night as the Blue Dragons fell 88-80 in Jayhawk Conference play at the ICC Fieldhouse.

Hutchinson led 37-33 at halftime and pushed the margin to six early in the second half before the Pirates caught fire. Independence outscored the Dragons 55-43 after the break, taking the lead for good on a three pointer by David Wilson with just over 15 minutes to play and answering every Hutchinson push down the stretch.

Sophomore guard Bobby Cannon turned in a huge night for the Blue Dragons with a career-high 38 points on 16 of 27 shooting. He added five rebounds, two steals and a block. Anthony Alston finished with 10 points off the bench, while Kyrell Shaw and Jonathan Ogunfuye each scored nine. Lolo Rudolph had seven points and a team high six assists, and Kordell Williams added seven points and six rebounds.

Hutchinson shot 46.3 percent from the field, going 31 of 67 overall and 6 of 17 from three point range. The Dragons held a 37-35 rebounding edge but were just 12 of 18 at the foul line.

Independence countered with a balanced attack. Wilson led the Pirates with 19 points, while Trae Lewis hit four threes and finished with 15 points. Lonnie Bass Jr. added 11 points and seven rebounds, and Zion Dixon chipped in nine points. The Pirates shot 50 percent from the floor, went 8 of 16 from beyond the arc and made 18 of 21 free throws.

Hutchinson dropped to 6-3 overall and 1-2 in the Jayhawk Conference. Independence improved to 4-4 and 2-1.

The Blue Dragons return home Saturday to host Seward County at the Sports Arena. Tipoff is scheduled for 6 p.m., following the women’s game.

🏀 Career night from Cannon not enough for HutchCC men in loss at Indy

INDEPENDENCE, Kan. — The 20th-ranked Hutchinson Community College women’s basketball team responded to its second loss of the season with a wire-to-wire Jayhawk Conference road rout Tuesday night in the&nbsp;First Oak Bank &amp; Oakes Family Fieldhouse.

Behind a balanced attack that put four players in double figures, the Blue Dragons rolled past Independence Community College 83-46. Hutchinson improved to 7-2 overall and 2-1 in the Jayhawk Conference, while Independence fell to 3-6 and 0-3.

Sophomore guard Katie Duncan set the tone with a game-high 21 points, going 9 of 22 from the field and 3 of 9 from three-point range. Whitney Brown filled up the stat sheet with 14 points, 10 assists, four steals and three rebounds. Dylan Alexander added 13 points on a perfect 5 of 5 shooting night, and Noelle Anthon finished with 12 points and a team-high eight rebounds.

Hutchinson led 23-13 after one quarter and 46-25 at halftime, then buried the Pirates with a 21-11 third quarter to build a 67-36 margin heading to the fourth. The Dragons scored at least 20 points in each of the first three periods and held Independence to 12 or fewer points in every quarter after the first.

Hutchinson shot 45.1 percent from the field, going 32 of 71 overall and 7 of 23 from beyond the arc. The Dragons were 12 of 15 from the free-throw line for 80 percent.

Defensively, the Dragons overwhelmed the Pirates. Hutchinson forced 25 Independence turnovers and came up with 15 steals, led by Brown and Duncan with four each and Alexander with three. Hutchinson also controlled the glass with a 49-30 rebounding advantage, including 17 offensive boards.

Kaia Smith provided a strong spark off the bench with six points, six rebounds and a block, while Jaden Wilson added four points and six rebounds. Delora Pricop and Jamia Taylor chipped in four points each.

Independence was held to 30 percent shooting from the floor, going 15 of 50. The Pirates went 7 of 16 from three-point range and 9 of 19 at the foul line. Mimi White led ICC with 11 points, while Nyah Chandler scored 10 and Flutra Mehmeti added nine.

Hutchinson returns home Saturday, hosting Seward County in another Jayhawk Conference matchup at the Sports Arena. Tipoff is set for 4 p.m.

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. (AP) — Reed Bailey scored 21 points and No. 25 Indiana limited the nation's leading scorer, P.J. Haggerty, to 12 below his average in an 86-69 home win over Kansas State on Tuesday night.

The senior Bailey did most of his work at the line, where he hit 13 of 15 free throws. Haggerty, who averaged 28 per game, finished 7 of 17 from the field for 16 points and had six turnovers.

Tayton Conerway added 19 for the Hoosiers (6-0). Lamar Wilkerson scored 14 and Trent Sisley had 12 points.

Indiana jumped out to a 20-4 lead with five different shooters hitting 3s. Despite 13 first-half turnovers, Kansas State rallied to a 26-24 deficit. That's as close as the visitors would come. Indiana responded with a 13-3 spurt to take a 39-27 halftime lead, then continued the momentum after the break with a 10-2 run for a 49-29 lead.

The Wildcats (5-2) had averaged 92.8 points in their previous six games. C.J. Jones had 15 points and Nate Johnson 13 for Kansas State.

The Hoosiers' usual leading scorer had a rough night. Senior forward Tucker DeVries, who averages 19.2 points, scored just nine.

The Wildcats host Bowling Green on Monday.

🏀 Indiana holds Haggerty below his average to beat K-State

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) — The Kansas City Chiefs could have Isiah Pacheco in the backfield when they visit the Dallas Cowboys on Thanksgiving Day.

Chiefs coach Andy Reid said Tuesday that he expects his top running back to return from a knee injury that cost him three games for the matchup on Thursday. Pacheco started the first eight games of the season and has 329 yards rushing and a touchdown.

“We'll see how he does today," Reid said before the first official practice of the short week, “but we'll get him in there. He'll play. How much, I can't tell you that right now. See how it goes.”

Pacheco returned to practice last week but was held out of Sunday's&nbsp;<a href="https://apnews.com/article/kansas-city-chiefs-comeback-win-playoffs-059854d3b2ed9859aa4f80174d212142">overtime win over the Colts</a>, when Kareem Hunt carried a career-high 30 times for 104 yards and a touchdown — a heavy workload for him with a short period of recovery.

The Chiefs (6-5) also have Clyde Edwards-Helaire and rookie Brashard Smith available, but neither has been a big part of the offense. So it fell upon the 30-year-old Hunt to almost single-handedly provide some semblance of balance to the Kansas City offense.

“I'm proud of him. He's upright, which is a positive thing,” Reid said with a grin. "He's doing good. It just shows you what he's put into it I think, at that age, that position. Those guys don't normally hang around very long and be productive like he was this past week.

“And he wanted more,” Reid added. “I guess that's a good thing.”

The Chiefs have skewed heavily toward the pass all season, though part of that has to do with the run-pass options in the playbook that have often produced throws downfield. But with Hunt churning for hard yards in the 23-20 win over Indianapolis, the Chiefs were able to open up the passing game, and Patrick Mahomes wound up throwing for a season-best 352 yards.

“We joke with him, 30 carries for somebody who is no spring chicken,” Chiefs offensive coordinator Matt Nagy said of Hunt, “but he's so tough. He's such a valuable part of this offense.”

Neither Mahomes nor his running backs will likely have right guard Trey Smith helping them out on Thursday. He missed practice with an ankle injury on Tuesday, and it is almost certain that Mike Caliendo will be called upon to start in his place.

LAS VEGAS (AP) — Tre White had 15 points and 10 rebounds, Flory Bidunga added 13 points and 14 boards, and Kansas beat Syracuse 71-60 on Tuesday at the Players Era tournament.

Syracuse was within 52-50 before Kansas scored 11 straight on layups and free throws to pull away. White completed a three-point play with 4:49 remaining in the second half and he added three free throws on Kansas’ next possession for a 60-50 lead. Melvin Council Jr. drove into the lane and made a contested shot in the lane to cap the run.

Council chipped in with 14 points and Bryson Tiller had 11 points and eight rebounds to help Kansas (5-2) outrebound the Orange 49-29. The Jayhawks turned it over 15 times, but Syracuse only scored nine points off them.

Tyler Betsey scored 12 points off the bench and J.J. Starling added 10 for Syracuse (4-2). Kiyan Anthony, playing in front of his dad — former Orange and NBA star Carmelo — went 2 of 12 from the field to finish with six points. Syracuse went 13 of 23 at the free-throw line, while Kansas made 18 of 20.

Kansas led 34-25 at halftime after holding Syracuse to 31% shooting.

The Orange finished 20 of 63 (32%) from the field, including 7 of 30 from distance.

The Kansas City Chiefs overcame both a double-digit fourth-quarter deficit and a botched facemask call to salvage their season in Week 12.

Referee Alex Moore's crew got it wrong when Jawaan Taylor was whistled for a facemask penalty that erased a tying touchdown by Travis Kelce in&nbsp;<a href="https://apnews.com/article/indianapolis-colts-kansas-city-chiefs-score-5e1d756cc0fd4ecd60b2ee8ac061c833">Kansas City's 23-20 win over the Indianapolis Colts</a>&nbsp;on Sunday.

CBS analyst Tony Romo got it wrong, too, when he suggested Chiefs coach Andy Reid could have challenged the dubious call.

The Chiefs' win featured an 11-point fourth-quarter comeback and a Patrick Mahomes-led drive to win it in overtime, but some of that drama might not have been necessary had replay assist been used to correct the errant call in the first place.

With the Chiefs trailing 7-0 in the first quarter, Kelce took the direct shotgun snap and sauntered into the end zone. As Harrison Butker was trotting onto the field for the extra point to tie it, however, Moore announced that Taylor, Kansas City's oft-penalized right tackle, had committed a facemask violation.

That nullified Kelce's TD and pushed the ball back to the Indianapolis 18.

A few plays later, Butker's first of five field goals made it 7-3, and the Chiefs (6-5) would trail the rest of the game until Butker's 25-yard field goal at the end of regulation tied it at 20. He won it in overtime with a 27-yarder.

Taylor didn't actually grab linebacker Kwity Paye's facemask, though. He got his right hand on the side of Paye's helmet but even that wasn't enough to merit a hands-to-the-face flag.

When Moore announced the personal foul on Taylor, CBS play-by-play man Jim Nantz exclaimed, “Wow! That's a big one. Not only is it a touchdown-denying penalty, but it's 15 yards on a goal-to-go situation.”

Nantz and Romo brought in rules analyst Gene Steratore, who said, "When we have a facemask we know now we can review that. As I look at it, 74's hand is on the helmet, but it's not grabbing the opening. So it is a reviewable play and if it's not a grab on the facemask, they could have removed this.”

Steratore was right about the facemask being reviewable, but only by replay assist.

“Andy Reid could have challenged that,” Romo incorrectly added, “... and that could have stood as a touchdown.”

The NFL expanded facemask calls this season to be eligible for replay assist, which helps on-field officials make the right call, but that wasn't used in this instance, so the error wasn't corrected.

Not only did Kelce lose his 85th career regular-season touchdown but he also got whistled for a phantom foul late in the fourth quarter with the Chiefs backed up near their own end zone trailing 20-17.

Mahomes threw a six-yard pass to running back Kareem Hunt at the Chiefs 12 with just under 5 minutes remaining, but Kelce was whistled for pass interference because officials mistakenly thought he made contact with linebacker Buddy Johnson, the defender who was guarding Hunt.

Romo called it “the worst call I've seen all year.”

“They think he picks 53 (Johnson). He doesn't. He goes into his own guy, who's guarding him,” Romo said.

The flag pushed the Chiefs back to their 3, but two plays later Mahomes hit Rashee Rice for 47 yards, leading up to Butler's tying field goal as time expired.

And after the Colts, who inexplicably abandoned their great ground game in crunch time, went three-and-out for the fourth straight time, Mahomes drove the Chiefs to the season-salvaging field goal.

Another curious call in Week 12 that had football fans and bettors abuzz was Cleveland coach Kevin Stefanski's decision to punt from the Raiders' 29 in the final minute of the Browns' 24-10 win at Las Vegas in&nbsp;<a href="https://apnews.com/article/browns-shedeur-sanders-first-start-raiders-9b35e17691b00b12d268e10229fe4b46">Shedeur Sanders' first career start</a>.

That's right. Not his own 29. The Raiders' 29.

Facing fourth-and-2 with 59 seconds remaining, Stefanski decided not to go for it and not to send in kicker Andre Szmyt for a short field goal but instead opted to send out punter Corey Bojorquez, whose 19-yard punt gave the Raiders the ball at their 10.

Now, had he not sent out his punter, chances are slim that Stefanski would have opted for a field-goal attempt given that the Browns were up two TDs in the final minute, but here's the thing: MGM Sportsbook set the over/under for the game at 36 points. FanDuel had it at 36 1/2 points.

As Harrison Butker was trotting onto the field for the extra point to tie it, however, Moore announced that Taylor, Kansas City's oft-penalized right tackle, had committed a facemask violation.That nullified Kelce's TD and pushed the ball back to the Indianapolis 18.A few plays later, Butker's first of five field goals made it 7-3, and the Chiefs (6-5) would trail the rest of the game until Butker's 25-yard field goal at the end of regulation tied it at 20. He won it in overtime with a 27-yarder.Taylor didn't actually grab linebacker Kwity Paye's facemask, though. That's a big one. As I look at it, 74's hand is on the helmet, but it's not grabbing the opening. The Raiders' 29.Facing fourth-and-2 with 59 seconds remaining, Stefanski decided not to go for it and not to send in kicker Andre Szmyt for a short field goal but instead opted to send out punter Corey Bojorquez, whose 19-yard punt gave the Raiders the ball at their 10.Now, had he not sent out his punter, chances are slim that Stefanski would have opted for a field-goal attempt given that the Browns were up two TDs in the final minute, but here's the thing: MGM Sportsbook set the over/under for the game at 36 points. FanDuel had it at 36 1/2 points.

Hutchinson now faces Independence and it's 90.6 point-per-game average. The Pirates lead the lead in shooting at 49.9 percent. Sophomore David Wilson is the third-leading scorer in the KJCCC averaging 20.7 points per game.

Independence won its conference opener against Colby last Wednesday 102-87, but dropped a 99-76 decision at No. 3 Coffeyville on Saturday.

The Blue Dragons look to snap a two-game losing streak to the Pirates, who defeated Hutchinson 103-97 and 104-84 last season.

Tuesday's game will be the 83rd all-time meeting between Hutchinson and Independence. The Dragons lead the series 57-25, including 16-11 in games played in Independence.

The 2025 KJCCC Champion and defending NJCAA national champion Blue Dragons (10-0) will play host to fourth-seed and Mississippi Conference champion Northwest Mississippi (10-1) at 6 p.m. on Saturday, December 6 at Gowans Stadium.
The other semifinal features No. 2 seed Iowa Western (10-1) playing host to Southwest Conference champion Tyler (11-0) at 6 p.m. on Friday, December 5 in Council Bluffs, Iowa.
The semifinal winners will play on December 17 at West Texas A&amp;M University in Canyon, Texas in the NJCAA Championship game.
The semifinal will be streamed in ESPN+.

The Blue Dragons have won 14-straight games going back to last season. Hutchinson has five wins over nationally ranked opponents this season, including four Top 10 victories.
Hutchinson closed out the regular season with a 27-14 win over No. 14 Garden City on Saturday at Gowans Stadium.
The Blue Dragons have the second-highest scoring offense in the NJCAA at 44.0 points per game and the No. 1 scoring defense in the nation after allowing 10.0 points per game this season.
Northwest Mississippi reeled off 10-straight wins after a 34-28 loss to East Mississippi on September 11. The Rangers had two battles in the NACCC playoffs, defeating Copiah-Lincoln 28-27 in the semifinals and Mississippi Gulf Coast 16-13 in the championship game.
This will be the first-ever meeting in football between Hutchinson and Northwest Mississippi.
The Blue Dragons will be bidding for their fourth appearance in the NJCAA Championship game.
Hutchinson win the 2020-21 national title with a 29-27 win over Snow College on June 5, 2021. Two years later, the Blue Dragons defeated Coffeyville in the 2022 national semifinals before falling to Iowa Western in the championship game. Two years ago, the Dragons fell 27-24 in the 2023 NJCAA semifinals to East Mississippi.
Last season, the Blue Dragons went on the road for the semifinals and defeated Georgia Military in the semifinals before defeating Iowa Western in the championship for the program's second national title under Drew Dallas.</div>

Tre White chipped in with 16 points and nine rebounds for Kansas (4-2), which was coming off a 78-66 loss to then-No. 5 Duke in the Champions Classic. Melvin Council Jr. scored 12 and Darryn Peterson, averaging 25 points in two games, did not play.

Markus Burton led Notre Dame (4-2) with 24 points and Jalen Haralson added 13.

Bidunga scored 14 points in the first half on 6-of-9 shooting to help Kansas take a 39-32 lead. Notre Dame got as close as four points in the second half.

🏀 Bidunga's 18 points, 9 rebounds and 5 blocks lead KU past Notre Dame 

KANSAS CITY, Mo.—The Kansas City Royals announced today they have hired&nbsp;Mike McFerran&nbsp;to serve as Major League Assistant Pitching Coach. He will work closely with Pitching Coach&nbsp;Brian Sweeney.

McFerran, 32 spent the last two seasons with the Athletics, joining in 2024 as Pitching Performance Coach before serving as Minor League Pitching Coordinator in 2025.

Before that, he was the Pitching Lab Coordinator and Director of Player Development at Wake Forest from 2021-23. Wake had its winningest team in program history in 2023, and 10 pitchers drafted in McFerran’s three years, including two in the top 10. McFerran joined Wake Forest from Skidmore College, where he was Associate Head Coach, Pitching Coach and Recruiting Coordinator from 2017-20.

Cannon's game winner topped off a come-from-behind 83-82 KJCCC victory for the Blue Dragons over the Butler Grizzlies in a battle where there were eight lead changes and 11 ties.

The Blue Dragons avoided the first 0-2 KJCCC start to a season since 2006 and improved to 6-2 overall and 1-1 in the KJCCC. The Blue Dragons head to Independence at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday at the ICC Fieldhouse. Butler is now 5-3 overall and 1-1 in the KJCCC.

Hutchinson trailed 76-65 with 5:03 remaining in the second half after a Devin Kerr field goal. But the Dragons to tie the game at 78-78 and 80-80. Butler then scored with 13 seconds left for an 82-80 lead.

With the shot clock off on the final possession of the game, Shaw tried to drive to the hoop from the right side. Facing a double team as he got to the lane, Shaw kicked a pass out to a wide-open Cannon, who sank only his second field goal of the game, a 25-foot 3-pointer for an 83-82 lead. Josiah Kirkwood's three-quarter court desperation shot was altered by Thomas and the Dragons completed the comeback.

Thomas came off the bench to lead the Blue Dragons with a season-high 20 points, hitting 6 of 7 total field goals and 3 of 3 from 3-point range.

Shaw had 13 of his 17 points in the second half. Shaw was 7 of 13 from the field. He added four rebounds.

The Blue Dragons jumped out to a 9-3 lead, but Butler rallied to tie the game at 11-11. Thomas knocked down a 3-pointer with 14:22 to play for a 14-11 lead.

The Dragons opened a 27-19 lead after a Boney bucket with 8:08 to go. But a 9-1 Butler run pulled the Grizzlies within 29-28 with 4:51 remaining in the half. Thomas drilled another 3-pointer with 2:34 remaining to give the Dragons a 37-33 lead. The Dragons had three more four-point leads, but Butler's Xavier Brown hit a 3-pointer with 3 seconds left to cut the Hutchinson lead to 42-41 at halftime.

🏀 Late Cannon 3 caps Blue Dragon comeback at Butler

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) — Patrick Mahomes threw for a season-high 352 yards, Kareem Hunt ran for 104 yards and a touchdown, and Harrison Butker's fifth field goal of the game gave the Kansas City Chiefs a come-from-behind 23-20 overtime victory over the Indianapolis Colts on Sunday.

Rashee Rice had eight catches for 141 yards, including two crucial ones on the Chiefs' tying touchdown drive in regulation and another in overtime, after Kansas City (6-5) had forced the high-powered Colts (8-3) to punt on a fourth consecutive three-and-out.

Butker ended the game with a 27-yard field goal with just under two minutes left in overtime, potentially keeping the Chiefs' playoff hopes alive. The reigning AFC champions had lost their previous two games, and another defeat against one of the hottest teams in the NFL on Sunday would have left Andy Reid's team needing a whole lot of help to make it back to the postseason.

The Colts blew a 20-9 fourth-quarter lead thanks in part to some questionable play-calling — and some worse execution.

They went almost entirely away from running back Jonathan Taylor down the stretch, putting the game instead in Daniel Jones' hands.

He wound up with 181 yards passing and two touchdowns, but most of that production came in the first half. Jones was just 8 of 18 for 83 yards in the second half, which allowed Mahomes and Co. to mount a comeback that injected some life in a dim season.

Taylor, meanwhile, only carried 16 times for 58 yards in his first game since a record-setting performance against the Falcons, when the Colts' star ran for 244 yards, piled up 286 from scrimmage and reached the end zone three times in an overtime win.

The Chiefs have struggled all season with turnovers at inopportune times, and another set the tone for the first half. Mahomes had a pass from his 4-yard line batted by Laiatu Latu, who brought it in himself for the defensive end's third pick of the season.

Two players later, Jones hit Michael Pittman to give Indianapolis a 7-0 lead.

The Chiefs answered with the first of two grinding, eight-plus minute first-half drives, but each netted just a field goal. And when the Colts moved briskly downfield again, and Jones found Drew Ogletree in the back of the end zone, they had built a 14-3 advantage.

The Colts were still clinging to 20-9 lead as the game headed to the fourth quarter.

Just as he's done so many times in his career, though, Mahomes mounted another comeback. He marched Kansas City 56 yards before Hunt's touchdown dive, then Mahomes found Rice for a 2-point conversion to close within a field goal with 8 1/2 minutes to go.

The Chiefs defense proceeded to step up, forcing a series of three-and-outs by the league's No. 1 offense.

Kansas City took over after the second one with 4:43 left at its 6. Mahomes hit Rice for 47 yards, then he found him again on fourth-and-3 near midfield for a 19-yard gain. Hunt's dive on third-and-1 gave the Chiefs first down at the Colts 2 with a minute to go, but he was stuffed on the next play, Mahomes threw incomplete on the next, and he was sacked on third down.

Butker banged through his fourth field goal, a 25-yard chip-shot as time expired, to send the game to overtime.

Turned out the Chiefs would give Butker another chance a few minutes later, this time to win the game.

Colts: WR Ashton Dulin left in the second half with a hamstring injury.

Chiefs: LG Trey Smith left in the second half with an ankle injury. TE Noah Gray finished the game in the concussion protocol.

The Chiefs visit the Cowboys on Thursday.

🏈 Chiefs rally from 11-point deficit to beat Colts in OT

EL DORADO – Held to season lows for points scored and shot percentage, the No. 18-ranked Hutchinson Community College women's basketball team dropped its first Jayhawk Conference road contest of the season on Saturday.

The Blue Dragons lost 56-44 at No. 14 Butler on Saturday at the Power Plant in El Dorado.

With its four-game winning streak snapped, Hutchinson fell to 6-2 overall and 1-1 in the KJCCC. The Blue Dragons travel to Independence at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Butler is now 7-0 and 2-0 in the KJCCC with back-to-back ranked wins over Coffeyville and Hutchinson.

The Dragons scored only 15 points in the first half, but only trailed 21-15 at halftime. Hutchinson scored seven-straight points to open the second half and took a 22-21 lead after a&nbsp;<a href="https://bluedragonsports.com/sports/wbkb/2025-26/bios/brown_whitney_uv6o">Whitney Brown</a>&nbsp;layup with 8:36 to play in the second quarter. Butler withstood that barrage and battled back to take a 38-33 lead after three quarters. The Dragons were outscored 18-11 in the fourth quarter. Butler's Kenzie Galliart scored 14 points in the second half, including 10 in the fourth quarter.

Brown led the Blue Dragons with 10 points. She was the only Hutchinson player in double figures. Brown hit a pair of 3-pointers.

Freshman&nbsp;<a href="https://bluedragonsports.com/sports/wbkb/2025-26/bios/barber_kamyra_spfy">KaMyra Barber</a>&nbsp;had nine points with six rebounds and four assists.&nbsp;<a href="https://bluedragonsports.com/sports/wbkb/2025-26/bios/smith_kaia_0ktj">Kaia Smith</a>&nbsp;came off the bench to add eight points, tying a season high with two 3-pointers. Smith added five rebounds.

The Blue Dragons shot a season-low 31.5 percent (17 of 54), hitting 5 of 24 from 3-point range and 5 of 8 from the foul line. The Dragons were out-rebounded 33-30 and had 16 turnovers.

Galliart had 18 points and nine rebounds to lead the Grizzlies. Destiny Smith had nine points.

Butler shot 38.8 percent (19 of 49), going only 3 of 14 from 3-point range and 15 of 22 at the free-throw line. Butler had 10 turnovers.

The Blue Dragons scored only two points in the first 8:22 of the first quarter and trailed 10-2. Smith's jumper with 1:38 to play broke the drought.&nbsp;<a href="https://bluedragonsports.com/sports/wbkb/2025-26/bios/alexander_dylan_qb2b">Dylan Alexander</a>&nbsp;scored to cut the Butler lead to 10-6 after one quarter.

The Dragons scored nine points in the second quarter, but managed to stay close. An Alexander 3-pointer with 5:26 to play in the half pulled the Dragons within 17-15. The Dragons didn't score another point in the half, but held Butler to only four points and trailed 21-15 at halftime.

Brown opened the second half with a 3-pointer. Then after a&nbsp;<a href="https://bluedragonsports.com/sports/wbkb/2025-26/bios/duncan_katie_ltx7">Katie Duncan</a>&nbsp;steal and layup and a Brown jumper with 8:36 to go, the Dragons led 22-21. Tied at 25,&nbsp;<a href="https://bluedragonsports.com/sports/wbkb/2025-26/bios/wilson_jaden_nnxf">Jaden Wilson</a>'s layup gave the Dragons a 27-25 lead with 5:03 remaining. Trailing 35-33, the Dragons wound up trailing 38-33 after three quarters.

Barber scored with 9:08 to go in the fourth quarter to pull within 38-35. Then Brown hit a 3-pointer with 6:17 to go, cut the Butler lead to 40-38. Trailing 42-40, the Dragons were outscored 12-4 down the stretch and close out the game.

 </figure>Hutchinson CC Sports InformationEL DORADO – Held to season lows for points scored and shot percentage, the No. 18-ranked Hutchinson Community College women's basketball team dropped its first Jayhawk Conference road contest of the season on Saturday.The Blue Dragons lost 56-44 at No. 14 Butler on Saturday at the Power Plant in El Dorado.With its four-game winning streak snapped, Hutchinson fell to 6-2 overall and 1-1 in the KJCCC. The Blue Dragons travel to Independence at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Butler is now 7-0 and 2-0 in the KJCCC with back-to-back ranked wins over Coffeyville and Hutchinson.The Dragons scored only 15 points in the first half, but only trailed 21-15 at halftime. Hutchinson scored seven-straight points to open the second half and took a 22-21 lead after a&nbsp;<a href="https://bluedragonsports.com/sports/wbkb/2025-26/bios/brown_whitney_uv6o">Whitney Brown</a>&nbsp;layup with 8:36 to play in the second quarter. Butler withstood that barrage and battled back to take a 38-33 lead after three quarters. The Dragons were outscored 18-11 in the fourth quarter. Butler's Kenzie Galliart scored 14 points in the second half, including 10 in the fourth quarter.Brown led the Blue Dragons with 10 points. She was the only Hutchinson player in double figures. The Dragons were out-rebounded 33-30 and had 16 turnovers.Galliart had 18 points and nine rebounds to lead the Grizzlies. Destiny Smith had nine points.Butler shot 38.8 percent (19 of 49), going only 3 of 14 from 3-point range and 15 of 22 at the free-throw line. Butler had 10 turnovers.The Blue Dragons scored only two points in the first 8:22 of the first quarter and trailed 10-2. An Alexander 3-pointer with 5:26 to play in the half pulled the Dragons within 17-15. The Dragons didn't score another point in the half, but held Butler to only four points and trailed 21-15 at halftime.Brown opened the second half with a 3-pointer. Then after a&nbsp;<a href="https://bluedragonsports.com/sports/wbkb/2025-26/bios/duncan_katie_ltx7">Katie Duncan</a>&nbsp;steal and layup and a Brown jumper with 8:36 to go, the Dragons led 22-21. Tied at 25,&nbsp;<a href="https://bluedragonsports.com/sports/wbkb/2025-26/bios/wilson_jaden_nnxf">Jaden Wilson</a>'s layup gave the Dragons a 27-25 lead with 5:03 remaining. Trailing 35-33, the Dragons wound up trailing 38-33 after three quarters.Barber scored with 9:08 to go in the fourth quarter to pull within 38-35. Then Brown hit a 3-pointer with 6:17 to go, cut the Butler lead to 40-38. Trailing 42-40, the Dragons were outscored 12-4 down the stretch and close out the game.GAME NOTES&nbsp;– The Dragons are now 64-35 all-time against Butler, including 31-18 in El Dorado. … The 15 points scored in the first half were a season low and the six points in the first quarter tied a season low. … The Dragons held an opponent to less than 40 percent shooting for the sixth time in eight games.

🏀 Dragons fall in ranked battle at No. 14 Butler

SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — Devon Dampier threw for two touchdowns and ran for two more, including&nbsp;<a href="https://x.com/Utah_Football/status/1992395003990319611">a go-ahead 1-yard score</a>&nbsp;with 56 seconds left, and No. 13 Utah rallied from a 12-point deficit midway through the fourth quarter for a wild 51-47 victory over Kansas State on Saturday.

The game turned on an unusual play. After KSU took a 47-35 lead on Joe Jackson’s third rushing touchdown of the game, the Wildcats went for 2, but Utah’s Tao Johnson intercepted a tipped ball and returned it to the Kansas State end zone for 2 points to make it 47-37.

Dampier’s 20-yard TD toss to Larry Simmons got Utah within 47-44 with 2:47 left. After the Utes forced a punt, Dampier led the winning drive, setting up his go-ahead score with a 59-yard run to the 1 on fourth down.

<a href="https://x.com/Utah_Football/status/1992396075463004167">Lander Barton intercepted Avery Johnson's pass</a>&nbsp;with 49 seconds remaining to seal it for Utah (9-2, 6-2 Big 12, No. 12 CFP), which kept alive its hopes for a league title and a College Football Playoff berth.

Jackson rushed for a school-record 293 yards for Kansas State (5-6, 4-4), topping Darren Sproles' mark of 292 yards set in 2004. The Wildcats finished with a program-record 472 yards rushing, the most by a Division I team in a loss since Army ran for 534 in a 52-49 loss to North Texas on Nov. 18, 2017.

Dampier threw for 259 yards and rushed for 94. Byrd Ficklin rushed for three touchdowns and Wayshawn Parker had 100 yards on 19 carries for Utah, which had 551 yards of offense to 574 for Kansas State.

VJ Payne knocked the ball out of Dampier's hand and Cody Stufflebean recovered the fumble at the Utah 26-yard line to set up Jackson's 24-yard TD rush midway through the fourth.

Dampier found Dallen Bentley for a 38-yard TD reception and Ficklin ran for his third TD to put Utah up 35-31 early in the third quarter. But Johnson threw to Garrett Oakley for a TD on fourth down and Luis Rodriguez added a 36-yard field goal to put KSU ahead 41-35 with 8:51 to play.

Utah’s defensive leader, John Henry Daley,&nbsp;<a href="https://apnews.com/a8a7711d680f7a0a7ba6a93b304bad70">left the game with a leg injury</a>&nbsp;late in the first quarter, when the defensive end already had two sacks and 3 1/2 tackles for loss. Daley grabbed his leg on a non-contact play and was helped to the locker room.

Accepting coach Chris Klieman’s challenge to play “big boy, physical football,” Kansas State had 348 yards rushing in the first half, including 225 in the second quarter as the Wildcats led 31-21.
