TULSA, Okla. — The Wichita Wind Surge opened a six-game road series with a 3-2 loss to the Tulsa Drillers on Tuesday night at ONEOK Field.
Wichita (26-32) received solo home runs from Brandon Winokur and Jaime Ferrer, while right-hander Adrian Bohorquez allowed just one hit over four innings.
Winokur gave the Wind Surge a 1-0 lead in the first inning with his 11th home run of the season. It marked his second straight game with a homer.
Tulsa (33-25) tied the game in the second with a solo home run, the only hit allowed by Bohorquez. He finished with four strikeouts while allowing one run over four innings.
Ferrer put Wichita back in front in the fifth, launching his sixth home run of the season 450 feet to left field. The homer extended Ferrer’s on-base streak to 10 games.
The Drillers took the lead for good in the sixth. A walk and a double set up a two-run single that gave Tulsa a 3-2 advantage.
Wichita was unable to answer over the final three innings.
Andrew Cossetti added a double for the Wind Surge, while Danny De Andrade made his Double-A debut.
Bohorquez owns a 1.00 ERA through his first two Double-A starts.
Wichita also made several roster moves Tuesday. Right-hander Luis Quiñones was activated from the 60-day injured list, De Andrade was promoted from High-A Cedar Rapids and Jake Rucker was assigned to Triple-A St. Paul.
Former Wind Surge player Ben Ross was called up to the Minnesota Twins’ major league roster Tuesday, becoming the 51st player in Wind Surge history to reach the majors.
The teams continue the series Wednesday with a 12:05 p.m. first pitch at ONEOK Field. The game will air on 92.3 FM ESPN Wichita and can also be streamed on MiLB.TV and Bally Sports Live.
