Hutchinson Community College sophomore women's cross country runner Ashara Frater was named the NJCAA Division I Women's Cross Country national Runner of the Week on Wednesday.
Frater, a sophomore from Trelawny, Jamaica, led the Blue Dragon women by winning the season opener Terry Masterson Twilight Classic last Thursday night at Fun Valley.
Frater became the third-straight Blue Dragon runner to win the season-opening Masterson Twilight and lead Hutchinson to a runner-up team finish.
Frater earned her second career Top 10 Masterson Twilight finish – Frater placed sixth as a freshman last season – and her first collegiate career victory with a time of 18:35.54 over the 3-mile course.
The Blue Dragon sophomore won by impressive 28.98 seconds.
That time ranked 21st in Masterson Twilight women's race history.
Frater's national award marks the fourth-straight season a Blue Dragon athlete has won national Runner of the Week Honors.
