Hutchinson CC Sports Information
For the first time since 2004, the Hutchinson Community College volleyball team opens its home season with the Blue Dragon Volleyball Classic.
The Blue Dragon Classic this year runs three days – Thursday, September 3 through Saturday, September 5 at the Hutchinson Sports Arena.
Tickets for the event are $5 on Thursday for the single match between Hutchinson and Indian Hills. Then on Friday and Saturday, tickets are $10 for the entire session each day. Friday's session starts at 11 a.m. and Saturday's session starts at 9 a.m.
The eight-team field is a stacked one with four nationally ranked teams – No. 8 Trinity Valley, No. 11 Northeastern Junior College, No. 15 Indian Hills and No. 16 Panola. Hutchinson, Mineral Area, Tyler and Missouri State-West Plains round out the field.
The Blue Dragons (5-2, 1-0 KJCCC) will play five matches in the Classic this year.
Hutchinson and Indian Hills open the tournament at 6 p.m. on Thursday in the opening match of the Classic.
The Blue Dragons on Friday will play MSU-West Plains at 11 a.m. and Trinity Valley at 5 p.m. Hutchinson will play Panola at 11 a.m. on Saturday and close the Classic with Tyler Junior College at 3 p.m. on Saturday.
Hutchinson enters the tournament on a three-game win streak. The Blue Dragons opened conference play on Monday with a 3-1 road win at Seward County.
Through six matches, the Blue Dragons are hitting .196 as a team and are averaging 10.00 kills per set. The Dragons are averaging 1.52 blocks, 2.00 ace serves and 13.64 digs per set.
Freshman outside hitter Giovanna Monteiro – who was named the KJCCC Offensive Player of the Week on Tuesday – leads the Blue Dragons at 4.24 kills per set and a .305 hitting percentage. Sophomore Mattie Galliher is Hutchinson's top blocker at 1.28 blocks per set.
Sophomore Clara Oliveira and Monteiro are tied for the top digs mark at 3.38 digs per set. Freshman Arianna Delgado is averaging 2.45 digs per set.
Freshman setters Luisa Richa is averaging 7.27 assists and Klaudia Bilinksa is averaging 6.64 assists. Bilinksa and Monteiro are tied for the team lead with 11 service aces.
