Mary Kathleen ‘Kathy’ Eckley, 74, formerly of Hutchinson, died October 6, 2020, at Ascension Via Christi St. Joseph. She was born March 25, 1946, in Huntington, IN, to John W. and Evelyn Lorene (Shuster) Eckley.

Kathy graduated from Hutchinson High School in 1964, and Mercy School of Nursing (the same nursing school where Kathy’s mom received her nursing degree), in 1968. She was the head nurse at St. Joseph Hospital, Wichita, where she met Dr. Rex Lee. They were married in 1982 and enjoyed traveling together. Shortly after their marriage, Kathy began working for Russ Pharmaceuticals. Kathy also enjoyed driving her RV with her three daughters, taking them to many locations that were meaningful to her during their childhood. She was an independent, compassionate, and strong willed (yet polite) soul, with a servant heart. Kathy enjoyed a close relationship with God throughout her life, but the relationship became closer after her retirement. She cherished her quiet time with the Lord.

Kathy is survived by daughters, Jennifer Casady (Eric) of Benton, Jackie Muzzy of Wichita, Jamie Burns (Aaron) of Goodyear, AZ; brothers, Craig Eckley (Fran) of Mound, MN, Alan Eckley (Beth) of Lenexa; nine grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; grandparents; and Jennifer, Jackie, and Jamie’s father, Phil Crayne.

Funeral service will be 11:00 a.m. Saturday, October 10, 2020, at Grace Episcopal Church, 2 Hyde Park Drive, Hutchinson, with the Reverend Dr. J. Ted Blakley officiating. Burial will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery, Hutchinson. Friends may call from 9:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. Friday at Elliott Mortuary. The family will greet friends from 10:00 to 10:45 a.m. Saturday at the church.

Leonard D. Zink passed away on Monday, October 5, 2020, at the Hays 
Medical Center in Hays, Kansas, at the age of 82. He was born on 
September 3, 1938 to William and Eva (Mason) Zink in Phillips County, 
Kansas.
 Leonard is a lifetime resident of Phillips County; he attended 
Tanyard Country School for 3 years before going to Glade Grade School 
and later, Phillipsburg High School where he graduated with the Class of
 1956. Following graduation, he continued to work for the family farm 
until he was drafted to the United States Army in 1961. He faithfully 
served our nation for 2 years before being honorably discharged in 1963.
 Leonard returned to the farm and later took it over completely, 
continuing his labors farming the land and taking care of the livestock 
until he was no longer able. 
 Aside from being a farmer and rancher, Leonard was the Rushville 
Township Treasurer for many years. In his younger years he enjoyed the 
4-H shows. Most of the time Leonard stayed busy and kept to himself but 
loved to be around all his nieces and nephews when he had the chance. 
Attending the annual Phillipsburg Rodeo, and going out to eat with 
friends and neighbors was always something he enjoyed. He was a quiet, 
hardworking, faith-filled man. He attended the St. Thomas Catholic 
Church in Stockton the majority of his life and was also involved in the
 Legion of Mary. 
 Left to cherish his memory is his sister, Jeannine (Bob) Goertz of 
Hutchinson, KS; nieces and nephews, Renee (Randall) Gates of Manhattan,

Philip Miller Ziegler, 85, of Hutchinson, Kansas died October 4, 2020, at Legends of Hutchinson. He was born January 10, 1935, in Oakley, Kansas, to Tony and Margaret (Miller) Ziegler.

Philip graduated from Oakley High School in 1952, and attended Regis College in Colorado. He was General Manager for Kansas Farmers Service Association. Philip touched many lives with his sense of humor. He was a devoted father and husband, setting a meaningful example for his family. Philip was a hard worker who taught his children to do the same. He loved sports and was an enthusiastic KU, Royals, and Chiefs fan, and he drove many hours over the years to watch his own children play sports. Philip was a member of Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church, South Hutchinson.

On November 22, 1956, he married Agnes Marie Kaiser in Grainfield, Kansas. They shared 63 years of marriage together.

Philip is survived by wife, Agnes Ziegler, Hutchinson, Kansas; son, Jim Ziegler (Lori Usher), Wichita, Kansas; daughter, Doris Podany (Tom), Wisner, Nebraska; daughter, Wanda Newton (Scott), Pulaski, Tennessee; son, Wayne Ziegler (Jenny), Dripping Springs, Texas; sisters, Delphine Malone, California, and Loretta Beckman, Colorado; ten grandchildren; and ten great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Leo Ziegler; sisters, Agnes Young, Marci Mues, and Irene Zerr; and grandson, Clint Ziegler.

Philip Miller Ziegler | 1935 - 2020 |

William (Bill) Sisson was born to Dean and Barbara Sisson on March, 23, 1954 in Hutchinson, Kansas. He went to be with his Heavenly Father on October 3, 2020 at the young age of 66 at Wesley Hospital, Wichita, KS, surrounded by his wife and children.

Bill grew up in Hutchinson until his family moved to Inman right after his 10th birthday where he resided for the remainder of his life. Upon graduating from Inman High School in 1972 he continued his education at Dodge City Community College where he graduated with an Associates Degree and many fond memories.

When he came back to Inman after college he worked at the Inman Lumber Yard. During this time he met and fell in love with his wife Debra (Nikkel) Sisson. They married on October 10, 1976. Bill was a devoted father to Christopher Sisson (Marla), Jessica Rall (Brian), Nicole McClellan (Bryan) and Poppy to six beautiful grandchildren; Ibis and Elias Sisson, Barron and Briley (Boo) Rall, and Korbyn and Kora McClellan. Bill is proceeded in death by his father, Dean Sisson. Bill is survived by his mother, Barbara Sisson of Inman, brother Jerry Sisson (Ruth) of Inman, and sister Teri Sisson of Oklahoma City and many more relatives and friends.

Bill had many hobbies throughout his life. He loved to go fishing no matter the location, played on a men’s slow pitch softball team for many years, and loved butchering with his buddies Mark and Wayne. One of his proudest roles in the community was as the softball coach for 20 years at Inman High School and coaching numerous youth sports team.

Bill never knew a stranger, was your friend once he knew you and could make you laugh at the drop of a hat with one of his jokes. If he wasn’t at home doing different projects around the house, you could find him up at Deb’s hair salon, at some sort of practice or game for his grandchildren, or talking it up with one of his many friends around town.

He retired from Arconic in 2019. In his retirement, him and Deb were able to enjoy several trips to their favorite vacation spot, Branson. When one his of kids called needing help on a project, he would be there for them. Same went for his grandkids and any family/friends that needed a helping hand.

Bill touched the lives of many people throughout his life and it is evident by all the memories people have shared. Although our time was cut short with him, we are thankful for the time we did have and all the memories we were able to create. He will be missed greatly by many.

William (Bill) Sisson | 1954 - 2020 |

Sylvan B. Fisher, 62, passed away October 2, 2020 at his home in Hutchinson.&nbsp; He was born January 30, 1958 in Paradise, Pennsylvania, the son of Elam S. and Florence (Byler) Fisher.

Sylvan was baptized in Old Order Amish Church in Pennsylvania.&nbsp; He currently attended Word of Life Mennonite Church in South Hutchinson, Kansas.&nbsp; Sylvan lived in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania until moving to Hutchinson in 1978. He was a small engine technician for 42 years at Fairview Service Center in Hutchinson, Kansas.&nbsp; He was also a volunteer firefighter for District 8 in Hutchinson.&nbsp; He had many hobbies but loved fishing, hunting and his garden koi pond.

Sylvan married Dorothy Yoder on September 6, 1979 in Hutchinson.&nbsp; She survives.

Survivors also include two sons, Matthew Fisher (Amanda) of Hutchinson, and Mervin Fisher (Rita) of Haven, Kansas; daughter, Katie Irene Baughman, of Galena, Kansas; brothers, Gideon Fisher (Barbara), Newburg, PA., Leroy Fisher (Elizabeth), Quarryville, PA., sisters-in-law, Mary Fisher, Newburg, PA., Anna Fisher, Sacramento, PA., Katie Fisher, Newburg, PA., Mary Fisher, and Sadie Fisher, both of Paradise, PA.; and seven grandchildren, Carter Baughman, Emma Fisher, Easton Fisher, Devon Fisher, Eva Fisher, Kaiden Fisher, and Dallas Fisher.

Sylvan was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Joe Fisher, Willie Fisher, Sam Fisher, Elam Fisher, John Fisher; and infant sister, Malinda Fisher.

Gene Swartzendruber, 93, of Hesston, Kansas passed away of natural causes on October 3, 2020 at Schowalter Villa.

Gene was born in Newton, KS on July 3, 1927 to George A. and Grace F.(Snyder) Swartzendruber. The family moved to St Johns, Michigan when Gene was 2 years old. At the age of 19, Gene traveled to Hesston, Kansas to attend Hesston Academy, in keeping with the family’s strong value of Christian education. At the Academy he met Velma Ewy, of the Hesston area, whom he later referred to as “the most beautiful girl in the world”.&nbsp; Velma was the daughter of Reuben and Helen (Vogt) Ewy. Gene and Velma were married in the Hesston College chapel on October 26, 1950.&nbsp; The couple resided in the Hesston area all of their married life.&nbsp;

Gene farmed with Velma’s father in their early married years.&nbsp; Given his ability in metal working and machinery he opened Hesston Machine and Welding in 1961 in a partnership with Jonathan Mast. He continued farming along with business ownership for many years. He had a reputation in the community as a capable, trust-worthy machinist. His gift for repairing or even inventing exactly what a customer needed was one of his greatest strengths.

Gene and Velma had a family of three children. Sharon Joy was born to them in 1951, Stanley Gene in 1953 and Mafra Jane in 1961. The family attended Pennsylvania Mennonite church, in Zimmerdale, Kansas. It was during this time that members of this particular church began the relief organization known today as Mennonite Disaster Service, and Gene quickly became involved. Pennsylvania Mennonite Church later became Whitestone Mennonite, Hesston, KS &nbsp;and Gene maintained a strong connection and involvement in that congregation all his life. In his humble way he was a soft-spoken leader, a gentle mentor and a wise teacher to many.

Surviving are his wife, Velma and their three children, Sharon (Carl) Weaver of Hesston, Stanley (Sharon) Swartzendruber also of Hesston, and Mafra (Rene) Maust of Goshen, Indiana. Also surviving are four siblings, Evelyn Troyer of Hesston, Richard Swartzendruber of Valley Center, Ks,&nbsp; Larry Swartzendruber of Henderson, NE and Virginia Swartzendruber of Hesston. The couple also has seven grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren surviving. Preceding him in death are two siblings, Wayne ‘Druber’ Swartzendruber and Robert ‘Bob’ Swartzendruber.

A private inurnment service is being planned at Eastlawn Cemetery, the former site of Pennsylvania Mennonite Church. Also a Memorial service for the public will be planned at a later date.&nbsp;

Kent Baird, 64, of Hutchinson, died October 3, 2020, at Hospice House, Hutchinson. He was born July 1, 1956, in Chanute, to Owen Duane and Delora May (Rollins) Baird.

Kent was a graduate of Altoona-Midway High School, Buffalo, and received a Bachelor of Science Degree in Agriculture Economics from Kansas State University. He was employed at the First National Bank of Hutchinson, since 1996, and was currently the Senior Vice-President of Commercial Lending. Kent was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, Hutchinson.

On June 1, 2000, he married Myrna Ryan Leiker in Hutchinson.&nbsp; They shared over 20 years of marriage.

Kent is survived by his wife, Myrna Baird of Hutchinson; children, Kenna Baird Tuckness (Tyler) of Lawrence, Kelli Baird Pilsl (Joe) of Kansas City, MO, Holly Leiker of Hutchinson, and Sam Leiker (Halie) of Hutchinson; grandchildren, Natalynn, Allie, Dani, Lucas, Owen, Jack, and Jewel; sister, Sue Murphy (John) of Derby; and nephews, Kris Marple and Ryan Murphy (Karin).

He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Rhonda Marple.

Larry R. Goering, 63, formerly of Hutchinson, passed away at Pleasant View Nursing Home, Inman, on Sunday, October 4, 2020. He was born to Walter and Doris (Schrag) Goering on May 15, 1957, at the hospital in Kingman.

Larry faithfully worked at the United States Postal Service Office, in Hutchinson, for 27 years, until his deteriorating health prompted him to take an early retirement. He had resided at the Pleasant View Nursing Home in Inman for six years prior to his passing.&nbsp;

Larry, who never married, was an avid traveler in his earlier years, and frequently used his vacation times to enjoy several cruises and multiple international trips. He chronicled those experiences through his keen interest in photography at that time. Larry also collected stamps and coins.&nbsp;

He is survived by sisters, Vera (Tom) Davis, Hutchinson and Violet (Larry) Ballard, Wisconsin; a sister-in-law, Ann Goering, Indiana; two nieces, Lisa and Lori; and six nephews, Russell, Randy, Reggie, Brad, Brent, and Jonathan.

Larry was preceded in death by his parents; an infant brother, Harry Dean; an infant sister, Venita Joy; sister, Leona Singleton; and brother, Vernon Goering.&nbsp;

Stan W. Crank, 59, classic car lover and sports enthusiast, died September 30, 2020, at his home. He was born October 4, 1960, in Hutchinson, to Earl William and Delores Jane (Pauls) Crank.

Stan would not want a big fuss, a service, or even an obituary. If an obituary was deemed absolutely necessary, he certainly would not have wanted it to be too wordy, too formal, or overdone. He had a stoic appearance and dry sense of humor, but was actually pretty hilarious with his quick wit and classic one liners. Stan loved his family and treasured his friends, never putting himself first. He was always generous in donating to causes and supporting others.

Stan graduated from Nickerson High School in 1978, and attended some college and trade school classes. Following a thirteen-year engagement, on July 17, 2017, he married Pamela Kay (Hill) Huxman, in the French Quarter of New Orleans, LA, complete with a second line jazz parade.

Stan is survived by his wife, Pamela Crank of South Hutchinson; children, Chelsey (Chad) Duvall of Hutchinson, and Colby Crank of Ottawa; stepdaughters, Jaime Garcia of Hutchinson,&nbsp; and Sydni Huxman (fiancé, Al Basha) of Eden Prairie, MN; grandchildren, Holley Duvall, Steele Duvall, Mia, Alex, Mari, and Alessio Garcia; siblings, Debbie (Bruce) Hoskinson, Rhonda Crank, Mike Crank, Rich (Kathy) Crank, and their children.

Doris Elaine Livingston, a long-time Hutchinson resident and native of El Dorado, died Wednesday, September 30, 2020, at Wesley Medical Center, Wichita. She was 91.

Doris’ primary devotion was to her family, but her kindness, generosity, and service was felt by friends as well as strangers throughout her life.&nbsp;

She was born February 1, 1929, at El Dorado, Kansas, daughter of James William Greenbank and Nadine Wallace Greenbank.

Doris graduated from El Dorado High School, valedictorian of the class of 1946. She attended the University of Kansas and was a member of the first graduating class of the William Allen White School of Journalism in 1951. Doris declined nomination to membership in Phi Beta Kappa (College of Arts &amp; Sciences) in order to graduate from the newly accredited School of Journalism. She was also the first woman to serve as Editor-in-Chief of the University Daily Kansan student newspaper in 1950. Doris was a member of Delta Gamma sorority while at KU. She was taught to fly by her father and soloed at age 17, holding her active pilot’s license for four decades.

After college graduation, Doris was offered a job at The New York Times, but came to Hutchinson after being hired by John P. Harris for her first position as Reporter-Photographer for The Hutchinson News-Herald.

She married Richard Wayne Livingston on June 7, 1953, at First Methodist Church in El Dorado. They lived in both Hutchinson and briefly in Wichita while starting their family.

Doris and her family moved from Hutchinson to El Dorado, Kansas in 1965, where she took a keen interest in athletic and other programs for youth, was active in the community and her church, and covered area events as a photojournalist for the Butler County News. She was editor and co-publisher of The Butler County News from 1965-1975, Vice-President of Traf-O-Teria System, Inc., and Butler County Printing from 1975-1989. Doris served as the President of the Butler County Community College Endowment Association, which Wayne had initiated while he was a member of the college’s Board of Trustees.

After retiring from business, Doris and Wayne returned to Hutchinson, Kansas in 1989, where they lived for the last 31 years. They enjoyed their friends and community activities, and took six overseas bicycling vacations during the 1990s. Doris was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church, Hutchinson, and P.E.O. Chapter CM.&nbsp;

She is survived by: her husband of 67 years, Wayne Livingston (Hutchinson); her three children, Jan Elaine Livingston, the Reverend Sue Ann Nilson Kibbey (Columbus, OH), and Robert Alan Livingston M.D. (Downingtown, PA); six granddaughters; and numerous great-grandchildren.&nbsp; She was preceded in death by her sister, Marilyn Greenbank Reiss and brother, Grant William Greenbank.

The family will hold a small private service at a later date, in keeping with Doris’ wishes.

Doris declined nomination to membership in Phi Beta Kappa (College of Arts &amp; Sciences) in order to graduate from the newly accredited School of Journalism. She was also the first woman to serve as Editor-in-Chief of the University Daily Kansan student newspaper in 1950. Doris was a member of Delta Gamma sorority while at KU. She was taught to fly by her father and soloed at age 17, holding her active pilot’s license for four decades.After college graduation, Doris was offered a job at The New York Times, but came to Hutchinson after being hired by John P. Harris for her first position as Reporter-Photographer for The Hutchinson News-Herald.She married Richard Wayne Livingston on June 7, 1953, at First Methodist Church in El Dorado. They lived in both Hutchinson and briefly in Wichita while starting their family.Doris and her family moved from Hutchinson to El Dorado, Kansas in 1965, where she took a keen interest in athletic and other programs for youth, was active in the community and her church, and covered area events as a photojournalist for the Butler County News. She was editor and co-publisher of The Butler County News from 1965-1975, Vice-President of Traf-O-Teria System, Inc., and Butler County Printing from 1975-1989. Doris served as the President of the Butler County Community College Endowment Association, which Wayne had initiated while he was a member of the college’s Board of Trustees.After retiring from business, Doris and Wayne returned to Hutchinson, Kansas in 1989, where they lived for the last 31 years. They enjoyed their friends and community activities, and took six overseas bicycling vacations during the 1990s. Doris was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church, Hutchinson, and P.E.O. Chapter CM.&nbsp;She is survived by: her husband of 67 years, Wayne Livingston (Hutchinson); her three children, Jan Elaine Livingston, the Reverend Sue Ann Nilson Kibbey (Columbus, OH), and Robert Alan Livingston M.D. (Downingtown, PA); six granddaughters; and numerous great-grandchildren.&nbsp; She was preceded in death by her sister, Marilyn Greenbank Reiss and brother, Grant William Greenbank.The family will hold a small private service at a later date, in keeping with Doris’ wishes.In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in recognition of Doris’ lifelong United Methodist commitment may be made on her behalf to the Bishop Bruce Ough Innovation Center at United Theological Seminary for the training of future church leaders. Mary Catherine ‘Aunt Mary’ Johnson, 75, died October 2, 2020, at Hospice House. She was born May 3, 1945, in Lyons, to Maple and Lillie (Lewis) Taylor.

Mary graduated from Chase High School in 1963 and Jackson Commercial College, Jackson, MS. She worked as a legal secretary for Gilliland &amp; Hayes LLC until her retirement. Mary then worked part-time for International Homes and Hutchinson Recreation Commission. She was of the Southern Baptist faith, a member of American Legion Women's Auxiliary Unit #68 and was very active in Chase High School Alumni Association.

On October 1, 1968, Mary married Albert ‘Al’ Johnson, in Guymon, OK. He died July 29, 2005.

She is survived by sister, Margaret Doll, Eureka; brother, Jim Taylor (Colleen), Dumas, TX; niece, Catherine Coon (Danny), Eureka; nephew, Fred Messick (Debbie), Valley Center; stepdaughter, Peggy Medders (Curtis), Rio Vista, CA; four step grandchildren; one step great-grandchild; and numerous extended family members.

Our beloved Geneva "Genny" Klassen, 90, passed away September 29, 2020 at her home in Hesston, Kansas. She was born in Fairview, Oklahoma December 29, 1929, to Fred andLydia (Eck) Nightengale.

Genny was a missionary nurse in New Mexico and Arizona, and went on to work atHalstead Hospital for 20 years as a nurse's aide before retiring. She was a member of GraceBible Church in McPherson.

Genny is survived by a step-daughter Georgia Klassen of Wichita; a brother Ernie(Arthurine) Nightengale of Fairview, OK; and numerous nephews and nieces.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Victor Klassen.

Jack Millard Karriker Jr., 74, passed away Friday, September 25, 2020 at Hutchinson Regional Medical Center, Hutchinson, KS. 

Jack was born June 10, 1946 in Hutchinson, KS, the son of Jack Millard and Thelma Cordelia (Avery) Karriker. On March 4, 1966 he married Luanne Rae Dester in Buhler, KS. To this union they were blessed with two children, Nathan, and Renee. On September 6, 1966 Jack enlisted in the U.S. Army and was honorably discharged on September 5, 1969.&nbsp; Jack was a member of Apostolic Faith Tabernacle of Hutchinson. 

Jack worked for EATON Corporation Fluid Poser Division for 23 years and at Hutchinson Correctional Facility in Architectural Drawings and Design for 23 years. Jack was very involved in the work of God. Apostolic Faith Tabernacle was his life for almost 51 years. He was part of many churches being established in Western Kansas and was a missionary to Vietnam.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a granddaughter, Shawna Massey.

Jack is survived by his wife Luanne Karriker of Hutchinson; daughter Renee (Shawn) Massey of Satanta; son Nathan (April) Karriker of Hutchinson; sister Penny (Bruce) Lovett of Hutchinson and six grandchildren, Andrew Massey, Samuel (Taylor) Massey, Joel (Victoria) Karriker, Luke Massey, Ethan Karriker and Ella Karriker.

Paul Alan Blauer, 43, died unexpectedly at his home in Wichita on Saturday, September 26, 2020.

Paul was born July 27, 1977, in Hutchinson, to Gary and Judith ‘Judy’ (Sillin) Blauer. He graduated from Hutchinson High School with the class of 1996.

Paul owned his own business in Wichita, Blauer’s Commercial Cleaning Service (BCCS), for over 14 years, and he made friends with the employees and owners of the businesses he cleaned.

Paul was an artist, working with all media, and particularly enjoyed repurposing found objects into something interesting and beautiful. Paul brought an artistic sensibility to his other hobbies and interests, such as creating and making music and collecting and nurturing rare and common plants. Paul loved all animals, with a special fondness for foxes and raccoons. He lived with and loved many pets throughout his life and would always stop to help an animal in need. Paul was also willing to lend a helping hand to people, both friends and strangers.

Paul had a wonderful sense of humor, whether enjoying a joke, embellishing a story, or pulling a prank. Paul’s laughter, smile, and his kind and generous spirit will be greatly missed by his family.&nbsp;

Paul is survived by his mother, Judith ‘Judy’ of Hutchinson, his father, Gary, brother, Matt (Joyce), and niece, Natalie, all of Wichita. Paul was preceded in death by his grandparents, Clifford and Mary Sillin and Earl and Veda Blauer.

Per Paul’s wishes, cremation has taken place. A private graveside service will take place at Trinity Cemetery, Hudson, Kansas, next to his grandparents and great-grandparents.

Donna Mae Neese, 82, died September 27, 2020, in Norman, OK, comfortably in her home with family by her side. She was born October 24, 1937, in Pretty Prairie, KS, to Ervin P. and Helen Ruth (Goering) Graber.

Donna graduated from Hutchinson High School, Hutchinson, KS, in 1955. She worked as the Human Resources Manager for Holmes and Narver, in Las Vegas, NV, and then at IBC Bank, in Weatherford, OK, until 2001. Donna was a member of the Chisholm Trail Presbyterian Church, Yukon, OK.

On March 6, 1966, she married Lawrence Ray Neese, in Las Vegas, NV. They shared over 49 years of marriage, prior to his death on May 8, 2015.&nbsp;

Donna is survived by her children, Sandra (Steve) Moore of Las Vegas, NV, Clifford (Carla) Birket III of Norman, OK, Angelita Patton of Victoria, TX, and Theron R. Neese of Las Vegas, NV; grandchildren, Chelsea Leavitt, Tyrel Widmier, Cassie Birket Nonast, Adam Disiere, and Crystal Disiere Puckett; and great-grandchildren, Jurnie, Jazln, Javin, Natalie, Griffin, Kamsie, Justin, Jayden, Hudson, Weston, Benson, Destiny, Cameron, and one on the way.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Lawrence R. Neese; son, Weston Graber Birket; and brother, Bob Graber.

Lloyd W. Ballhagen, 89, died Monday, September 28, 2020, at Hospice House, Hutchinson. He was born August 21, 1931, in a farmhouse six miles east of Peever, South Dakota, one of the eight children of Frank and Vesper (Metz) Ballhagen.

Lloyd graduated from Beardsley High School, Beardsley, MN, in 1949, and spent two years on the farm after high school. In 1951, he joined the United States Marine Corps, serving in Japan and Korea, and attaining the rank of Sergeant eleven months after joining. Lloyd was honorably discharged in 1954.

He graduated from the University of South Dakota, Vermillion, SD, with a Bachelor of Arts double degree in history and journalism. Lloyd was a member of six honorary fraternities, including Phi Beta Kappa. He was editor of the campus newspaper,&nbsp;The Volante,&nbsp;for two semesters. Lloyd also served two terms as president of the Independent Student Association, and the Greek and Latin Honorary Society.

In 1958, Lloyd was the lone selection from forty applicants by the Harris newspaper and radio station group as the second executive intern. After completing his four-year training in all departments of a newspaper, Lloyd became editor and publisher of&nbsp;The Spencer Daily Reporter and Sunday Times,&nbsp;located in Spencer, IA. After three years at Spencer, he served as editor and publisher for&nbsp;The Hays Daily News,&nbsp;after Harris Group bought the Hays Daily in 1970. During Lloyd’s three years at Hays, he was appointed Assistant to the President of Harris Group, Peter Macdonald. He continued as Macdonald's assistant until he was named as President of Harris Enterprises, Inc. in 1978. The Harris Group Corporation then owned eleven daily newspapers, and six AM and seven FM radio stations. Lloyd’s title was changed to President and CEO in 1984, and to Chairman of the Board and CEO in 1992. Lloyd continued in that capacity until his retirement, at the end of 1997.

Lloyd served as chairman of the KPTS Channel 8 board of trustees for two years, and was a member of that board for twenty years. In addition, he was chairman of the Reno County Chapter of the American Red Cross for two years, and vice-president of the Reno County Historical Society. Lloyd also served as a board member of the Kansas Cosmosphere and Space Center for six years, during the building of its first major facility.

Other organizations Lloyd was involved in were board of trustees of the Kansas 4-H Foundation for five years, a charter board member of Skylights, Inc. (a teenage drug and alcohol treatment center), vice-president and board member of the Hutchinson Symphony, twice a member of the board of Hutchinson Friends of the Library and editor of the Friends' newsletter. Lloyd also served on the boards for Kansas Friends of the Library, Inland Daily Newspaper Association, and was a member of the American Newspaper Publishers Association government committee.

Lloyd belonged to Trinity United Methodist Church, Hutchinson, where he taught adult Sunday school classes for over 20 years. Lloyd is survived by two sons, Kurt of Lawrence and Clint of Hutchinson, Kansas; sister, June Docherty and husband Neil of Buffalo, MN; brother, Dr. Jay T. Ballhagen and wife Susan of Eagle, Idaho; and former wife of 32 years, Eunice Arndt.

Lloyd was preceded in death by his parents; longtime companion of 29 years, Sonia C. Hayse (who died October 28, 2018); three brothers, Ivan, Melvin, and Orville; and two sisters, Ada Herrmann and Lamoine Herrman.

Cremation has taken place. There will be no funeral or memorial service.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Hutchinson Public Library, Hutchinson Symphony or Cosmosphere International SciEd Center and Space Museum, in care of Elliott Mortuary, 1219 N. Main, Hutchinson, KS 67501.

 </figure>Lloyd W. Ballhagen, 89, died Monday, September 28, 2020, at Hospice House, Hutchinson. He was born August 21, 1931, in a farmhouse six miles east of Peever, South Dakota, one of the eight children of Frank and Vesper (Metz) Ballhagen.Lloyd graduated from Beardsley High School, Beardsley, MN, in 1949, and spent two years on the farm after high school. In 1951, he joined the United States Marine Corps, serving in Japan and Korea, and attaining the rank of Sergeant eleven months after joining. Lloyd was honorably discharged in 1954.He graduated from the University of South Dakota, Vermillion, SD, with a Bachelor of Arts double degree in history and journalism. Lloyd was a member of six honorary fraternities, including Phi Beta Kappa. He was editor of the campus newspaper,&nbsp;The Volante,&nbsp;for two semesters. Lloyd also served two terms as president of the Independent Student Association, and the Greek and Latin Honorary Society.In 1958, Lloyd was the lone selection from forty applicants by the Harris newspaper and radio station group as the second executive intern. After completing his four-year training in all departments of a newspaper, Lloyd became editor and publisher of&nbsp;The Spencer Daily Reporter and Sunday Times,&nbsp;located in Spencer, IA. After three years at Spencer, he served as editor and publisher for&nbsp;The Hays Daily News,&nbsp;after Harris Group bought the Hays Daily in 1970. During Lloyd’s three years at Hays, he was appointed Assistant to the President of Harris Group, Peter Macdonald. He continued as Macdonald's assistant until he was named as President of Harris Enterprises, Inc. in 1978. The Harris Group Corporation then owned eleven daily newspapers, and six AM and seven FM radio stations. Lloyd’s title was changed to President and CEO in 1984, and to Chairman of the Board and CEO in 1992. Lloyd continued in that capacity until his retirement, at the end of 1997.Lloyd served as chairman of the KPTS Channel 8 board of trustees for two years, and was a member of that board for twenty years. In addition, he was chairman of the Reno County Chapter of the American Red Cross for two years, and vice-president of the Reno County Historical Society. Lloyd also served as a board member of the Kansas Cosmosphere and Space Center for six years, during the building of its first major facility.Other organizations Lloyd was involved in were board of trustees of the Kansas 4-H Foundation for five years, a charter board member of Skylights, Inc. (a teenage drug and alcohol treatment center), vice-president and board member of the Hutchinson Symphony, twice a member of the board of Hutchinson Friends of the Library and editor of the Friends' newsletter. Lloyd also served on the boards for Kansas Friends of the Library, Inland Daily Newspaper Association, and was a member of the American Newspaper Publishers Association government committee.Lloyd belonged to Trinity United Methodist Church, Hutchinson, where he taught adult Sunday school classes for over 20 years. Lavonne Arlyss Baker, daughter of John and Anna (Miller) Ehm was born February 15, 1930, on a farm north of Gretna in Phillips County, Kansas.&nbsp; She went to be with her Lord and Savior on Tuesday, September 29, 2020, at the age of 90.

She married Wayne Baker, June 6, 1948, at Calvary Baptist Church in Phillipsburg, Kansas.&nbsp;&nbsp;

She was preceded in death by her husband, Wayne in 2011, and a son, Rodney in 2001.

She is survived by her children Roger Baker, Terri Baker, and Deb Robinson all of Phillipsburg, and Sherri Baker of Agra; three grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; her sister Melba Bentz of Foley, AL; brother Arlen Ehm of Phillipsburg.

At Lavonne's request, there will a private family graveside service at the Pleasant View Cemetery near Gretna, KS in Phillips County, KS.

Virginia ‘Jalayn’ Falk, 89, died September 24, 2020, at Hester Care Center, Hutchinson. She was born December 2, 1930, in Kansas City, MO, to Fred Elbert and Marie (Shumway) Woodard.

Jalayn graduated from Hutchinson High School in 1948. She worked in the office for her husband and brothers’ business- Falk Bros. Floor Covering. Jalayn later worked at Kitchen Kupboard, Hutchinson. She volunteered at Hutchinson Hospital and enjoyed crafts, especially ceramics. Jalayn was an active member of Beta Sigma Phi.

&nbsp;On December 5, 1948, she married Allen ‘Jim’ Falk, in Hutchinson, at the First Christian Church. He died November 25, 1986.

Jalayn is survived by daughter, Deborah Delaney and husband Mike of Hutchinson; grandchildren, Christopher Delaney and wife Cassie of Bel Aire, Jon Delaney and wife Laura of Cumming, GA, Heather Case and husband Patrick of Grand Rapids, MI; and nine great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

Memorial service will be 11:00 a.m. Thursday, October 1, 2020, at Grace Bible Church, 1221 E. 33rd, Hutchinson, with Pastor Bart Horton officiating. Donna Lee Kelley, 80, of Hutchinson, died September 25, 2020, at Hospice House. She was born October 6, 1939, in Russell, to Walter and Elsie (Weymaster) Schmidt.

Donna graduated from Hoisington High School in 1957 and Salt City Business College. She worked as a secretary at Plaza Astle Realty for 45 years until she retired. Donna was a member of First Presbyterian Church, where she served as a deacon and secretary. Donna also volunteered at Christian Soup Ministry, Inc., Hutchinson Hospital, and Food-4-Kids.

On April 10, 1960, she married Floyd C. Kelley, in Hoisington. They later divorced.

Donna is survived by children, Denise Welch (Thomas), Charles Kelley (Robin), all of Hutchinson; granddaughters, Mindy Manning (Dusty), Hutchinson, Kristin Piña (Zach), Hutchinson, Chelsey Buttrey (James), Eldridge, MO, Shelby Kelley (fiancé, Eric Sanchez), Lakewood, CO; great-grandchildren, Elizabeth Manning, Isaiah, Dominik, Preston, and Hudson Piña, Charli, Soyer, Qaidn, Kai, and Eisley Buttrey; great-great-grandchild, Ayla Chapin; brother-in-law, Jerry Hickle, and a niece and nephew.

Fern Elizabeth Regehr was born to Pete and Lizzie Lohrentz on October 13, 1926 in Newton Kansas. She went to be with her heavenly father at the age of 93 on September 25, 2020.

Mom grew up on a farm east of Buhler, KS with an older sister and two younger brothers. She attended a one room schoolhouse and later graduated from Buhler High School. She worked at Bethel Deaconess Hospital until she met and married the love of her life, Arnold M. Regehr on October 1, 1948. It was Mom’s yellow dress that caught Dad’s attention at a birthday party, and the rest is history! To this union were born five children: Ron, Duane, Bonnie, Sheryl and Marilyn.

Eventually, Mom and Dad ended up on the farm east of Buhler, where Mom had grown&nbsp;up. Mom of course kept very busy keeping the home going with gardening, canning, sewing and wonderful meals. She would get up early in the morning to make such things as pies and fried chicken to take to the field during harvest. Mom was also Dad’s right hand man on the farm helping in any way that was needed as well as playing an integral part in the many decisions demanded on the farm. She was adept at milking cows, driving tractor, truck and whatever else was needed at the moment. To help supplement the farm income, Mom drove school bus for the Buhler School district for thirteen years. This allowed her to be with her children and be on their schedule.

In 1991 Mom and Dad moved to Inman KS where they designed and built their retirement home. They enjoyed living there for 20 years after which time they moved to Pleasant View Home in Inman. Mom always loved her flower gardens but in her retirement years she had more time to display her green thumb. She volunteered at the Etcetera Shop in Hutchinson for many years. She enjoyed painting ceramics, many of which were gifted to her children and grandchildren. A highlight for her were weekly quilting times with a group of ladies at church which lasted for many years. Mom and Dad had a heart for shut-ins and mom loved fixing Christmas goodies and meals to take along. In their retirement years, they enjoyed many travels, some in their motorhome, others overseas to Russia, Paraguay and Haiti where they were privileged to hand out Christian literature and help dig water wells.

As the grandchildren came along, Mom always made sure she was well stocked with cookies, ice cream, sweet cereals, popcorn, pop and Werther’s Caramels. The grandchildren held a special place in her heart and she made every effort to attend all of their functions she could.

Mom trusted Christ as her Savior when she was a teenager and was baptized upon her confession of faith at Finamore Lake southeast of Buhler. At that time she became a member of the Hebron Mennonite Church of Buhler. After her marriage she spent the remainder of her years at Bethel Mennonite Church of Inman, serving in different capacities. Her heart for the Lord showed through in her servant’s heart and her and Dad’s desire to see their children and grandchildren walking with the Lord.

Fern was preceded in death by her husband Arnold Regehr, her parents and sister, Elfrieda Schmidt. Fern is survived by her son Ron (Janet) Regehr of Inman, Duane (Sharon) Regehr of Hesston, Bonnie (Ed) Zahn of Buhler, Sheryl (Tim) Busenitz of Inman, Marilyn (Laurence) Wiebe of Whitewater, 20 grandchildren and 50 great grandchildren. She is also survived by 2 brothers, Milford Lohrentz, Buhler, KS and Raymond Lohrentz, Inman, KS.

Visitation will be held from 5 p.m. - 6:30 p.m. Friday, October 2, 2020 at Inman Funeral Home, with the family present.
