On the afternoon of November 19, 2020, Grace Snyder Hessman of 
Hutchinson, KS died at the age of 102.&nbsp; 

Grace was born in Ness County, 
Kansas, the daughter of Ronald Wayne Snyder and Phoebe Jane (Lamoreux) 
Snyder.&nbsp; She attended Ness County schools and shortly after graduating 
from high school moved to Dodge City, Kansas where she attended Dodge 
City Junior College and later married Roy J Hessman in August of 1946. 
&nbsp;They lived in Dodge until 1996 when they moved to Hutchinson, Kansas. 
While at Dodge, Grace was an employee of Eckles Department store and a 
proofreader at the High Plains Journal for more than 30 years.

Grace was a member of the First Methodist Church in Hutchinson.&nbsp; She 
was preceded in death by her husband, Roy Hessman, on May 28, 2001;&nbsp; a 
brother, Robert Snyder, of Russel, Kansas; three sisters, Naida Moeder 
of Colorado Springs, CO, Lois Towns of Dighton, KS and later Garden 
City, KS, Ona Stecklein, Ness City, KS; and Grace’s son, Ronald (Rock) 
Hessman, and her best friend Sam Hessman (her cat and companion of 21 
years).

She is survived by her son, Robert Hessman, and his wife, Lisa, of 
Temecula, CA, her daughter in law, Donna Hessman, Hutchinson, KS; four 
grandchildren; four great grandchildren and 13 nieces and nephews.

Due to COVID, a memorial service will be scheduled sometime during 
the spring of 2021.&nbsp; In leu of flowers please give a donation to the 
Hutchinson Animal Shelter.

Johnny Dean Holmes, 82, of Haven, died November 18, 2020, at Robert J. Dole VA Medical Center. He was born September 22, 1938, in Bostol Pool, Oklahoma, to Dallas Homles and Doris (Presnell) Braswell.

After high school John joined the United States Army, serving for three years. He was a business owner for JP Sales. John loved to bowl and did so for many years. He was a member at Haven Church of Christ.

On August 8, 1959, he married Patsy Lou Schoonover in Redondo Beach, California. They shared 61 years together.

John is survived by: wife, Patsy Holmes, Haven; daughter, Denise Geffert, Haven; daughter, Vickie Lanning (Brian), Wichita; daughter-in-law, Martha Holmes, Haven; grandson, Justin Lanning (Maddie), Park City; granddaughter, Sarah Ensz (Taylor), Haven; and great- grandchildren, Jay Lanning, Adeline Ensz, and Jesse Ensz.

He was preceded in death by his parents and son, Jay Dean Holmes.

A private family burial will take place in Haven Priest Cemetery.

Ralph Cecil Thode, 90, of Lawton, OK, formerly of South Hutchinson, died November 17, 2020, at The Brentwood Senior Living, Lawton, OK. He was born March 27, 1930, in rural Plevna, to Albert Daniel and Thelma Elnora (Drake) Thode.&nbsp;

Ralph was a 1948 graduate of Plevna High School, Plevna, and 1966 graduate of Sterling College, Sterling. He was a member of Chi Sigma Theta. Ralph was an elementary and middle school teacher, and a college instructor. In 1972, he was awarded the Outstanding Elementary Teacher Award. Ralph also farmed, served in the United States Naval Reserve, excavated archeological sites for Plateau Science and the Smithsonian Institute, and co-owned Westwind Productions Photography.

On June 3, 1951, he married Muriel Ruth Hill at the Huntsville Methodist Church, Huntsville, KS. They shared over 68 years of marriage, prior to her death on December 2, 2019.

Ralph is survived by children, Alan Thode of Lawton, OK, Andrew Thode of Hutchinson, and Arlis (Daryl) Schmaltz of Gallup, NM; 6 grandchildren; 7 great-grandchildren; 2 great-great-grandchildren; and brother, Larry Thode of Hutchinson.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Muriel Thode; infant son, Joel Thode; daughter, Ann Bearden; and brothers, Estel Thode and Edward Thode.

On September 25, 1948, Ruby married Stanley Earl Parks, in Hutchinson. They shared over 54 years of marriage, prior to his death on February 4, 2003.

Carol Ann Huffman, 75, passed away Tuesday, November 17, 2020 at her 
home in Great Bend. She was born May 4, 1945, in Great Bend the daughter
 of Edward and Marie (Krmela) Horyna.

Carol was a life time resident of Great Bend. She was a member of the
 Eagles and the Assembly of God Church. Carol enjoyed collecting humming
 birds and walking. She loved spending time with family.

Survivors include two sons, Leslie Hopkins of Hutchinson, and Tommy 
Hopkins of Great Bend; two daughters, Pamela Hopkins and Kristie Huffman
 both of Great Bend; a brother, Edwin Horyna of Hutchinson; four 
sisters, Rose Cosper of Grand Prairie, TX, Betty Hafenstine of LaCrosse,
 Connie Allen of McPherson, and Lois Cox of South Hutchinson; eleven 
grandchildren; and four great grandchildren. She was preceded in death 
by her parents; three brothers, Clarence, Donald, and Kenneth Horyna; 
and two sisters, Evelyn Knox and Sylvia Horyna.

Bill Hildebrandt, 69, passed away November 15, 2020, at the University of Kansas Medical Center. He was born November 12, 1951, in Hutchinson, to Dave and Jane Hildebrandt.

Bill worked as a carpenter at the Kansas State Fair for 43 years. He was a Vietnam veteran.

Bill is survived by his wife of 44 years, Lindy; sister, Nancy Baalman; beloved companions, Maya, Rosalie, and Monroe; cherished niece, Kasey Noggle; and many friends.

Cremation has taken place. There will be a celebration of his life every day.

Donald Eugene Smith, 82, of Hutchinson, died November 15, 2020, at his home. He was born June 6, 1938, in Hutchinson, to Willard Louis and Pauline Gondolia (Young) Smith.

Donald worked as a custodian at Prairie Hills Middle School, Hutchinson, and Hutchinson Community College. He served in the United States Army and the United States Navy. Donald was a member of the New Hope Baptist Church, Hutchinson. He enjoyed singing anywhere, especially for his church.

On October 31, 1960, Donald married Betty Jeane Kitterman, in Newton. They shared over 48 years of marriage, prior to her death on March 3, 2009.

He is survived by children, Donna Lee Chase of Nickerson, Richard Lee (Patricia) Smith of Hutchinson, and Jan Patrick of Hutchinson; four grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

Donald was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Betty Smith; sister, Louise Goodwin; and brother, Lee Roy Smith.

Cremation has taken place. Memorial service will be 11 a.m. Saturday, November 21, 2020, at New Hope Baptist Church, 4815 E. 4th&nbsp;Avenue, Hutchinson, with Pastor Brian D. Lee presiding. Masks are required for this service.

Allan D. Jackson, 88, died on November 16, 2020 at Hutchinson Regional Medical Center, Hutchinson, KS. He was born February 28, 1932 in Omaha, NE, the son of George and Helen (Kirkwood) Jackson.

On August 2, 1952, he married Louetta Jackson in Needles, AZ. Allan was enlisted in the Unites States Navy and was honorably discharged. Allan and Louetta lived in California for 19 years before moving to Hutchinson in 1993. He was a Fluid Mechanical Engineer for the United States Government.

Allen was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Louetta; daughter, Kelly and his brother-in-law, Vernon Martin.

Survivors include his son, Michael Jackson of Nevada; sister-in-laws, Seville Martin of Hutchinson and Shirley Broman of Nevada; a close family friend, Diana Callon; numerous grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Terry Sumrall, Sr., 77, of Colwich, Kansas, passed away Monday, November 16, 2020 at his home. He was born October 20, 1943 in Wiggins, Mississippi, the son of Gaines Wilburn and Vera (Sellers) Sumrall.

He was a longtime resident of Wiggins, Mississippi, moving to Kansas in 2007 after hurricane Katrina. Terry worked as a sales rep for Colonial Bread Company and Borden Company, both of Mississippi.

Terry was a member of the First Baptist Church of Maize and a former member of Haven Baptist Church.

He married Virginia Rosario on July 16, 1988 in Long Beach, Mississippi.

Survivors include his wife, Virginia Sumrall; son, James T. “Teddy” Sumrall, Jr. (Denise) of Bagley, Minnesota; daughter, Laura Walker of Gulfport, Mississippi; step-daughter, Brenda Peltzer (Paul) of Andale, Kansas; seven grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and brother, Norris Sumrall (Barbara).

Terry was preceded in death by his parents; and two brothers, Tommy and Kenneth Sumrall.

Private family services will be held with burial to take place at Laurel Cemetery, Haven, Kansas.

Greg Dean Kinast, 56, passed away November 16, 2020 at his home in Haven, Kansas. He was born in San Diego, California on December 16, 1963 and adopted by parents Phillip and Carol (Brown) Kinast.

Dean married his high school sweetheart, Sarah E. Pickman on July 8, 1983 in Atchison, Kansas.

Dean was a near life-long resident of Haven, previously living in Atchison. He received an associate’s degree and was a computer numerical control (CNC) machinist at Easton Hydraulics of Hutchinson for 19 years. He currently worked at Martins Machine &amp; Welding in Halstead, Kansas. Dean was also a commercial private pilot and had a passion for flying.

Dean was a man of very few words. He loved the outdoors and often enjoyed fishing and going on walks with his Pomeranian, Lily. He loved to build and had a knack for making things to become self-sufficient. He had a deep interest for astronomy and the unknown with the universe. He often enjoyed his cotton candy, chocolate chip ice cream, and popsicles. He loved spending time with his family, especially his grandkids.

Robert Dean ‘Rob’ Newton, 58, of Hutchinson, died November 14, 2020, at Hutchinson Regional Medical Center due to complications from Covid-19. He was born September 12, 1962, in Hutchinson, to Clyde and Berta Lea (Dean) Newton.

Rob graduated from Hutchinson High School and then served in the United States Army for eight years. He was a hero in Desert Storm. Rob later worked for Sonoco for 30 years. He was passionate about music and played bass guitar for many bands for many years. Rob loved to watch KU basketball and sitting in the front row during HCC basketball games. Rob attended First United Methodist Church, where he was raised.&nbsp;

On April 4, 1998, he married Victoria Yingling, in Hutchinson. They shared more than 22 years together.

Rob is survived by: wife, Vici Newton, Hutchinson; son, Matthew Newton (Ivy), Hutchinson; daughter, Jennifer Rucker (Clay), Medicine Lodge; daughter, Krystle Newton (Andy), Hutchinson; son, Paul Newton, Manhattan; daughter, Samantha Martin, Colwich; son, Jordan Newton, Coats; grandchildren, Lily and Memphis Newton, Eyan Blackwell and Sabellah Martin, Corwin, Ross, and Dempsey Newton; brothers, Mark Newton, Connecticut, Randy Newton, Hutchinson; and mother, Berta Lea Newton, Hutchinson.

Eugene ‘Gene’ Allen Heldenbrand, 92, passed away November 16, 2020, at Pleasant Hills Assisted Living. He was born October 14, 1928, in Oxford, KS, the son of John and Edith (Underwood) Heldenbrand.&nbsp;

Gene graduated from Langdon High School in 1946, and married Glenis Banks, his high school sweetheart, on October 12, 1946. They shared 68 years of marriage.

He was a resident of Hutchinson most of his adult life. Gene worked for the Santa Fe Railroad for forty years, retiring in 1988. He was a kind, hardworking man, and never met a stranger. In Gene’s words, ‘I had a good wife, a good life, and a great family’. He was an avid coin collector, and enjoyed growing watermelons and tomatoes for his neighbors, friends and family. Gene always gave a guarantee on his watermelons! He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.

Gene was a founding member of the El Cap Credit Union and served as president for several years. He was a member of First United Methodist Church, Hutchinson.

Gene was preceded in death by: his parents; wife, Glenis; sister, Arlena Walker; and brothers, Ralph, Carl and Paul.&nbsp;

He is survived by: daughter, Kay (Greg) Gordon of Hutchinson; grandson, Ryan (Joah) Gordon of Overland Park; granddaughters, Amber (Tyler) Goetz of Lawrence and Ashley (David) Farney of Wilson; four great-grandchildren, Lucas and Jacob Gordon, Ellie Goetz, and Wyatt Farney; great-granddaughter, Goetz, arriving soon; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Her passion for learning lead to an Associate Degree at Hutchinson Community College, then a Bachelor Degree in General Studies with a Minor in Business Administration and a Master Degree in Sociology at Wichita State University.

She was preceded in death by her parents; and her brother, James McFarland.

Doris was born June 23, 1935, in Hector, Arkansas, the daughter of 
Howard and Laverta (Coffman) Williams.&nbsp; She was a resident of Rush 
County, Kansas, for 33 years, moving from Colorado.&nbsp; She was an 
electronics technician for Hewlett-Packard before her retirement.

She was a member of Hope Lutheran Church, Walnut Valley Senor Center, and Lions Club, all of Rush Center, Kansas.

On December 10, 1952, she married Don Nicks at Raton, New Mexico.&nbsp; He
 preceded her in death August 13, 1998.&nbsp; On February 23, 2008, she 
married Norman Hemken at Hope Lutheran Church, Rush Center, Kansas.&nbsp; He 
preceded her in death December 6, 2012.

Survivors include:&nbsp; four sons, Robert Dean Nicks (Cheryl), Nickerson,
 Kansas, Philip Lang Nicks (Mary), Rush Center, Kansas, Charles Lee 
Nicks (Gail), Johnstown, Colorado, and Kevin Arthur Nicks (Patty),

Richard B. Gibbs, Sr., 67, passed away November 15, 2020, at Hutchinson Regional Medical Center. He was born January 4, 1953, in Evansville, IN, the son of Vernon and Dorothy (Condor) Gibbs.

He lived in various states throughout his life including; Indiana, California, Nebraska, Missouri, Kansas, Oklahoma and Texas.

Richard loved his family and his therapy dog. Richard enjoyed volunteering at the Cosmosphere, learning about outer space and doing crossword puzzles.

He married Joyce E. Hall, July 7, 1973, at Hutchinson, KS. She survives.&nbsp;

Harlan R. Wilkens, 90, of Hutchinson, died November 14, 2020, at Hospice House. He was born February 2, 1930, in Ellsworth to August and Rosa (Janzen) Wilkens.

Harlan graduated from Lorraine High School in 1948. He spent two years at Kansas Wesleyan University before serving in the United States Air Force from 1950 to 1954, during the Korean War. Harlan then graduated from Fort Hays State University in 1956. For 30 years he was a rural mail carrier in Ellsworth County. Harlan was a member of Westside Baptist Church

On October 20, 1950, he married Norma Lee Sewing in Lyons. They shared 69 years of marriage before her passing on December 23, 2019.

Harlan is survived by son, Greg Wilkens (Marilyn), Hutchinson; daughter, Kay Wickham (Greg), Andover; grandchildren, Andrew Wickham (Leah), Cari Smothermon (Wes), Lynette Wilkens, all of Wichita, Denise Nisly (Tony), Hutchinson; and six great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Norma Wilkens; sister, Wilma Janssen; and brother, Donald Wilkens.

Graveside service will be 2 p.m. Thursday, November 19, 2020, at Lorraine Baptist Cemetery, with Pastor Tim Adrian officiating. Military Honors will be conducted by the McConnell Air Force Base Honor Guard. Friends may call from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Tuesday and Wednesday at Elliott Mortuary.

Kenneth Lee Ross, 73, died Friday, November 13, 2020. He was born June 27, 1947, in Little River, to Harry L. and Ruth F. (Cory) Ross.

He was a 1965 graduate of Little River High School. Kenneth was a member of First Southern Baptist Church and Partridge Gun Club.

He retired in June 2010, from Morton Salt Co. as assistant store room clerk, with 38 years of service.

On June 24, 1967, he married Ruth Rempel, in Hutchinson. Ruth, his wife of over 53 years of marriage, survives. Also surviving are: children, Devon and husband Mark Reese of Berthoud, CO, and Daren and wife Amie of Wichita; siblings, Suzette and husband Larry Bozeman of San Jacinto, CA, and Curt and wife Dixie Ross of Hesston; five grandchildren, Courtney and husband Chris Jensen of McPherson, John Borton of Northglen, CO, Frank Reese, Katie and husband Scott Athey, and Jacob and wife Lydia Reese, all of Wichita; and 6 great- grandchildren.

Kenneth was preceded in death by his parents.

Vernon Kraus, Jr., 76, died November 12, 2020, at Wesley Medical Center, Wichita. He was born August 14, 1944, in Kingman, to Vernon Joseph and Helen Maxine (Cole) Kraus.

Vernon graduated from Pretty Prairie High School in 1962, and Fort Hays State University in 1967. He was the Industrial Arts teacher at Pretty Prairie High School for 32 years, and also loved farming. Vernon was a member of the Pretty Prairie Booster Club. He belonged to the New Jerusalem Church (Swedenborgian), in Pretty Prairie.&nbsp;

On August 20, 1965, he married Linda Sue Smies, in Courtland, KS. They shared 55 years of marriage.

Vernon is survived by wife, Linda of Pretty Prairie; children, Rick Kraus (Stephanie) of Hutchinson, Karen Perry (Jason) of Pretty Prairie; sister, Leta Royer (Bill) of Haven; grandchildren, Brody Kraus (Megan) of Hutchinson, Adam Hilbert (Katy) of Lenexa, McKinna Wiley (Clay) of Wellington, Brooke Williams (Wyatt) of Mulvane, Weston Kraus of Hutchinson, Ethan and Noah Perry of Pretty Prairie; and one great-grandchild.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and a daughter, Paula Hilbert.

Nation Meyer, age 98, a life-long resident of Hutchinson, died at home surrounded by family on November 12, 2020. He was born March 21, 1922, in Kansas City, MO, the son of Edward William Meyer and Eula Nation Meyer. He was a 1939 graduate of Hutchinson High School, attended the University of Kansas until late 1942, and was a member of Beta Theta Pi Fraternity. At that time, he joined the United States Navy as a Naval Aviator and served until January 1946, when he returned to Hutchinson.

In 1946, he began his career at The First National Bank of Hutchinson. In 1960, he was named President of the bank. He retired in 2016, as Senior Chairman after 70 years of service to the bank. During those years, he was associated with numerous civic and commercial enterprises. Among them, he was a founder of Data Center Inc. He also served as a Founding Director of the following organizations: The Hutchinson Town Club, Prairie Dunes Country Club, The Hutchinson Art Center, The Delos V. Smith Senior Citizens Foundation, Fox Théâtre and the Reno County Historical Society. He served as President of the Hutchinson Chamber of Commerce in 1954. Nation was also instrumental in the merger of the two local hospitals to form Hutchinson Regional Hospital. For his entire life he has been an advocate for the Hutchinson community, especially the downtown area.&nbsp;

In 1965, he married Tucker Landeene. She survives, and he is also survived by four children, Edward Nation Meyer, Diane Meyer Longenecker (Kent), Laura Meyer Dick (Michael), and John L. Meyer (Lisa), and grandchildren, Nation Whitney Meyer, Graham Longenecker, Kristin Glascock (John Paul), Karen Longenecker, Kaitlyn, Jennifer and Lindsey Maschler, Jayden and Kendall Meyer. and one great-grandson, Liam Glascock.

He was a member of Grace Episcopal Church and a Private Memorial Service will take place.

Daniel James ‘Dan’ Stoecklein, 57, of Hutchinson, died November 12, 2020, at Hospice House. He was born on March 12, 1963, in Hutchinson, to Jim and Venita (Stegman) Stoecklein.

Dan graduated from Trinity Catholic High School in 1981, and Hutchinson Community College in 1983, with an Associates of Arts degree. In 1978, he began his first role at Dillon Stores as a courtesy clerk at Store #48 in Hutchinson, Kansas. Dan’s starting pay rate was $2.65 per hour. He later worked in the Produce, Grocery, and Scanning Departments before being named Scanning Manager in 1985. In 1992, Dan moved to the Distribution Center Office to be Store Systems Supervisor. Dan was named Inventory Specialist for Dillon Stores Division, in September 1996. He was then named Retail Pricing Coordinator at the Distribution Center Office, effective July 1997. Dan was named Network Analyst in Information Services at the Distribution Center Office, in August 2000. He was named Store Auditor, effective October 2010, and was in that position briefly before joining Kroger Accounting Services-Hutchinson (KASH) as Kroger Time &amp; Attendance Support Analyst, in late 2010. Dan was promoted to Kroger Time &amp; Attendance Group Leader, in November 2014.

Dan had many hobbies, including cooking and baking for an army and playing with his grandchildren -- pushing them way too high on the swing and taking them to the park or on long walks. He was also an avid grocery shopper, a recycling professional, a closet hoarder of many things and Monarchs Baseball host parent. He also participated in reluctant home improvement and completing Janet’s projects (the running “To-Do” list). One of his greatest loves was gardening and wood cutting therapy sessions, but he also enjoyed hunting (pheasant and “residential hunting”) and building things in the garage. He was a member at Church of the Holy Cross, in Hutchinson.

On August 4, 1984, he married his lovely wife, Janet Kay Koehn, at Church of the Holy Cross, Hutchinson. They shared 36 years together.

Dan is survived by wife, Janet Stoecklein, Hutchinson; daughters, Lacy Dowers (Rick), Hutchinson, Katie Raya (Derrick), Hutchinson, Kelsey Teagle (Deiondre), Wichita; grandchildren, Alba Rose Dowers, Ivy Jade Dowers, Alexis Ann Raya, and Asher Michael Raya, all of Hutchinson; parents, Jim and Venita Stoecklein, Hutchinson; siblings, Elaine Weninger (Mark), Denny Stoecklein (Michelle), and Pam Nelson, all of Hutchinson; and nephews, Michael Weninger, Logan Weninger, Jordan Stoecklein, Ryan Stoecklein, and Connor Nelson.

Daniel James "Dan" Stoecklein | 1963 - 2020 |

Ralph G. Bowen, a longtime Hutchinson resident who never met a stranger, took his last breath on earth, and first in Heaven, on November 14, 2020. Ralph, son of Lewis G. and Minnie E. (Burget) Bowen, was born and raised in Burlington, Kansas.

He lived an adventurous childhood with his twin brother, Roger, older brother, Don, and sister, Marjorie. Ralph and Roger carried their love of playing football together from Burlington High School to Hutchinson Community College, and finally as recruits at Washburn University, where Ralph, as team captain, led the team to league championships his junior and senior years.

Ralph also served as president of his fraternity, Phi Delta Theta, his senior year. He often kidded with his children that he was ‘BMOC,’ Big Man On Campus, and anyone who had the privilege to know him would not doubt this for a minute!

Ralph was smitten with a beautiful campus coed, Shirley Wilson, the daughter of a well-known Topeka police detective! That did not deter Ralph from gathering the courage to take her on their first date to see the legendary Ray Charles and Eartha Kitt at the Topeka Auditorium. The rest, as they say, is history! Ralph and Shirley made beautiful music together for over 65 years!

The couple made Hutchinson their home, building a house in 1961, that they have lived in since. Over the years, this home was filled with laughter and love as Ralph and Shirley hosted many backyard BBQs, birthdays celebrated with a red ‘You Are Special Today’ plate, baby and wedding showers, hotdog and chili nights on Halloween, and beloved family gatherings at Christmas.

Ralph’s hard-working and entrepreneurial spirit allowed him to enjoy a fulfilling career in Hutchinson. The majority of his career was in the heavy equipment business, where he was co-owner of Equipment Rental. One of the highlights of his job was proudly placing the rockets and the SR-71 Blackbird Spy Plane at the Cosmosphere. Ralph’s career culminated with his most fulfilling business yet, working with his son Kevin to grow a strong oil and natural gas exploration company.

Ralph and Shirley were an adventure-seeking couple who loved traveling with friends and family. On any given Friday night, everyone would know to find Ralph and Shirley with their friends at The Anchor Inn, enjoying Hutch’s tastiest homemade chips and salsa, and great company. There was one exception to this rule – if any of Ralph and Shirley’s grandkids had an event on a Friday night, they would be there showing support instead.

Ralph always maintained strong ties with HCC sports, as a charter member of the Quarterback Club, and he and Shirley were lifetime season ticket holders to the football and basketball games. Ralph was involved in the community as a member of the Reno County Planning Committee, and served his church, which was always an important part of his life, on building committees and as a friendly and welcoming usher.

Ralph is survived by his loving wife, Shirley; children, Andrea Siefkes (Tim), Hutchinson, Pam Kennedy (Kelly), Haysville, Kevin Bowen (Jodee), Hutchinson, and Tamara Harbour (Phil), Shawnee; grandchildren, Courtney Siefkes, Austin, TX, Amy Messer (Travis), Gardner, Matthew Peil (Loni), Hutchinson, Lauren Rickner (James), Ottawa, Aubrey Kennedy, Haysville, Elli Bowen, Kansas City, Trace Bowen, Kansas City, Abby Harbour, Shawnee, Reed Harbour, Shawnee, Cale Harbour, Shawnee, Tayt Harbour, Shawnee; five great-grandchildren; sister-in-law, Margaret ‘Peg’ Bowen; and many nieces and nephews, with whom he remained close, and loved seeing at family gatherings over the years.&nbsp;

Ralph was preceded in death by his sister and brother-in-law, Marjorie Long (Jesse); brother, Don Bowen; twin brother, Roger Bowen; sister-in-law, Jeanette Bowen; brother-in-law, Charles Brunton; sisters-in-law, Margaret Brunton Smith (Larry), Joann Hornak (Larry); nephew, Michael Brunton; and niece, Debra (Bowen) Fletcher.&nbsp;

Private graveside service will be Friday, November 20, 2020, at Fairlawn Burial Park. A celebration of Ralph’s life will be announced at a later date. Friends may sign his book from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. at Elliott Mortuary.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials to First Church of the Nazarene, Hutchinson (for their building fund), or Hospice &amp; HomeCare of Reno County, in care of Elliott Mortuary, 1219 N. Main, Hutchinson, KS 67501.

 </figure>Ralph G. Bowen, a longtime Hutchinson resident who never met a stranger, took his last breath on earth, and first in Heaven, on November 14, 2020. Ralph, son of Lewis G. and Minnie E. (Burget) Bowen, was born and raised in Burlington, Kansas.He lived an adventurous childhood with his twin brother, Roger, older brother, Don, and sister, Marjorie. Ralph and Roger carried their love of playing football together from Burlington High School to Hutchinson Community College, and finally as recruits at Washburn University, where Ralph, as team captain, led the team to league championships his junior and senior years.Ralph also served as president of his fraternity, Phi Delta Theta, his senior year. He often kidded with his children that he was ‘BMOC,’ Big Man On Campus, and anyone who had the privilege to know him would not doubt this for a minute!Ralph was smitten with a beautiful campus coed, Shirley Wilson, the daughter of a well-known Topeka police detective! That did not deter Ralph from gathering the courage to take her on their first date to see the legendary Ray Charles and Eartha Kitt at the Topeka Auditorium. The rest, as they say, is history! Ralph and Shirley made beautiful music together for over 65 years!The couple made Hutchinson their home, building a house in 1961, that they have lived in since. Over the years, this home was filled with laughter and love as Ralph and Shirley hosted many backyard BBQs, birthdays celebrated with a red ‘You Are Special Today’ plate, baby and wedding showers, hotdog and chili nights on Halloween, and beloved family gatherings at Christmas.Ralph’s hard-working and entrepreneurial spirit allowed him to enjoy a fulfilling career in Hutchinson. William “Bill” Leslie Mason, 81, passed away on October 21, 2020 at Hutchinson Regional Medical Center, due to complications from Covid. Bill was born on February 19, 1939 in Wichita, KS, to William Leslie and Jewel Whiteside Mason. A true American Patriot, Bill served his country in the United States Army when he was a young man. He believed that with hard work, passion, drive and, above all, integrity, anyone could achieve the American dream.&nbsp; Bill not only reached his dream; but he gladly mentored many others as they worked to achieve their dreams.

He started his career as a Computer System Analyst for Wesley Hospital before moving on to become the top salesman at Pitney Bowes. He later owned Roof Mechanics of Hutchinson and the Business Computer Center of Hutchinson before founding his current company, Sales Data, Inc., in 1979 in Hutchinson.

Bill loved what he did. He worked nonstop and enjoyed playing in the stock market in his free time. He was a well-respected businessman, a true friend, and a mentor to so many. Bill enjoyed attending WSU basketball games, working, sharing lunches and dinners with great friends and, did I say work? But above all, he loved Judy and his family, and he was blessed with a big one! His favorite saying to Judy was “I won’t make you stay home if you don’t make me go.” He married Judy Morrissey on August 31, 1979, in Wichita, KS. She survives.

The date and time of the Rosary and Mass of Christian burial will be announced soon. The family requests no flowers or food due to social distancing. Memorial contributions may be made to Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church, in care of the funeral home.We are saddened that not only did Covid take a great man, it took away our ability to be together during this difficult time.
