Sylvia Sue Morley, 80, of Hutchinson, died Feb. 6, 2021, at her home. She was born Dec. 10, 1940, in her home in rural Chase County, to Allen and Alice (McCracken) Bond.

Sylvia graduated from Matfield Green High School and Friends Bible College. She received her bachelor's and master's degrees in Education from Emporia State University. Sylvia’s teaching career spanned 43 years as she taught English at the middle school, high school, and college levels at Lyons, Valley Center, Belleville, Dighton, Utica, Chase County, and Barclay College.

She was an avid reader and quilter, and enjoyed needlework of all kinds. Sylvia was a member of Hutchinson Friends Church and was very involved in Friends Women and One Mission Society. She was a church pianist for many years and her ultimate piano experience was accompanying the Barclay College Choir one semester.

Sylvia’s biggest accomplishment was her daughter, Nancy. She loved being a part of her life by attending all of her activities and sporting events. Once Sylvia’s grandchildren came along, that just added another delight to her life.

Sylvia married Loren D. Morley in 1977. He died in 1990.

She is survived by daughter, Nancy Whiteman and husband Mark of Hutchinson; grandchildren, Rebecca, Austin, Nicholas, Lukas Whiteman; and 12 first cousins.

Sylvia was preceded in death by her parents; sister, Linda Bond; stepsister, Vonna Fine; and stepbrother, Virgil Scott.

Funeral service will be 10:30 a.m. Friday, Feb. 12, 2021, at Hutchinson Friends Church, 1200 E 14th Ave. Burial will be 3 p.m. in Homestead Cemetery, Cedar Point. Friends may sign the book from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Wednesday and Thursday at Elliott Mortuary.
