Ruth S. Adams, passed away on February 8, 2023.&nbsp; She was born in Kansas City, Missouri, then moved to Norfork, Arkansas, again returning to Kansas in 1965. She attended school in Valley Center and was a 1976 graduate.&nbsp; Later in life she became a registered dietitian and worked at the Cheney Golden Age Home. In 2022 she took retirement from Smithfield where she worked as a security guard.

Ruth is survived by her children Tim (Kristy) Schwind, Tiffanie (Jeremy) Lynch, Troy (Hollie) Carroll, Thomas Holmes and Tasha (Grant) Adams; grandchildren Trinity Schwind, Grant Schwind, Keaton Baker, Damien Gathers, Melissa Schwind, Joseph Schwind, Kaitlynn Haines, Destiny Lynch, Jeremy Lynch Jr, Quenton Carroll, Ella Carroll, Baylor Carroll, Addelyn Pauly, Rodney Holmes, Kash Holmes, Madysone Maxwell, Jaykub Adams, Rayden Adams, Octavia Adams and Jonah Adams; great grandchildren Akasha Gathers and Gnaues Lehrkamp; brothers James Adams and Doug Adams; many other family and friends.&nbsp; She was preceded in death by her mother Sylvia Ruth Moore and step father Russell Moore, father Marvin Adams Sr, brother Marvin Adams Jr, grandparents Ruth and Leslie Clark, and Ethel and James Adams.

Barbara Fern Kincaid, 77, died February 13, 2023, at Hospice House, Hutchinson.&nbsp; She was born February 24, 1945, in Hutchinson, to William Robert and Barbara Fern (Hayden) Allam, Sr.

Barbara graduated from Haven High School in 1963. &nbsp;She was a lifelong member of&nbsp; Haven United Methodist Church and belonged to P.E.O. Chapter BL.

On May 9, 1964, she married her high school sweetheart, Delmar Kincaid, at Haven United Methodist Church.&nbsp; Barbara was a loving and devoted wife, mother, and grandmother.&nbsp; &nbsp;&nbsp;

Barbara is survived by:&nbsp; her husband of almost 59 years, Delmar Kincaid; daughters, Kimberley Kincaid-Warner (Todd) and Lisa Hall (Mark), all of Hutchinson; grandchildren, Grace Scott, Reed Scott, Katelyn Hall, Brynn Hall, Sam Warner (Whitney Steele), and Jake Warner; great-grandson, Jaxson Warner; and brother, W.R. “Dub” Allam (Susan) of Hutchinson.

Andrew Jay McCurry,72, passed away Sunday, February 12, 2023, at his home in Burrton, KS surrounded by his loving family.

Andy was born on September 8, 1950 in Hutchinson, KS to Ruth (Campbell) and A.J. McCurry. Andy graduated from Burrton High School in 1968; obtained a B.S. degree in Animal Sciences &amp; Industry from Kansas State University in 1978. Andy made a career change to meet his family goals and was accepted into the University of Kansas School of Pharmacy, graduating in 1990. He worked as a pharmacist in the Hutchinson, KS area for 30 years retiring on his 70th&nbsp;birthday in 2020. He also worked for the Kansas Livestock Association from 1980-1984.

He is survived by his wife, Mary, of the home; son, John (Melody) McCurry and their children Aubree, Molly and Drew, Hutchinson, KS; daughter, Emily (Tyson) Mullen and their children, Avery and Hallie, Ulysses, KS. He was their biggest cheerleader and the light of his life.

Other survivors are sister, Carole (Rick) Schlender, Burrton, KS; brother, Ray (Rose) McCurry, Mt. Hope, KS; and brother-in-law, Raymond Dixon of McAlester, OK. Also, several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, sister, Jan Dixon of McAlester, OK, sister-in-law, Sue (Smith) Coley of Rockford, IL, and nephew, Tyler Schlender of Burrton, KS.

Andy married Mary Elizabeth Smith on August 5, 1977 in Jackson, TN. Together they created a start-up registered Angus operation, McCurry Angus Ranch (formerly Marands Angus using their combined names …Andy &amp; Mary). As a 3rd&nbsp;generation Angus breeder, Andy wanted something he could call his own and not someone else’s legacy. It wasn’t the easy way but in reality he created his own legacy, his own Angus herd and ranch.

Never one to shine the light on himself, Andy worked tirelessly behind the scenes to turn a run-down piece of property into his own “homeplace”. A lifetime of pounding posts (thus the hearing loss!) by hand for over 40 years turned into a place hosting many livestock judging teams, visitors from across the US, cattle sales, chuckwagon cookouts and a place to raise his family. His work ethic, dependability and strong, solid values were the backbone of the decisions he made in his life.

Andy’s gift was the ability to meet people from all walks of life and “visit” with them. He was always interested in YOU…not himself. His network of friends was nationwide thanks to many years showing cattle with his family’s operation. There wasn’t a cattle event anywhere in the country that Andy didn’t know or see someone he had met in his journey with Angus cattle.

Because Andy re-invented himself by changing his career, he was sought out by many who were struggling with “what to do” with their life or unhappy in their chosen profession. He encouraged many to consider pharmacy as a career. When folks said “I wish I could” …. his response was “you can if you put your mind to it”.

Many awards came his way, some of which included:

Instead of traveling to attend a funeral, it was Andy’s wish that people use that time to do something positive for someone else; take your grandchild for a walk through the cattle, reconnect with someone from your past, go visit or help someone with a project you have been meaning to do; make an effort to resolve old conflicts or lend a stranger a helping hand. Offering your time and energy in this way will not only honor Andy’s memory and spirit, but benefit us all by touching the hearts and lives of others as he has touched ours.

Larry Eugene Goodwin Sr. passed away February 10, 2023, in Hutchinson. He was born in Hutchinson, December 2, 1945, to James Goodwin and Betty Wingert. 

Larry loved working in his garage on cars and motorcycles, doing yard work and being outdoors. He enjoyed spending time with his coffee buddies, traveling when he was able, telling jokes, going to his granddaughter's activities and raising his two grandchildren, Lance and Tabitha. 

Larry is survived by his wife, Roberta (Bobbie), of 52 years; daughters, Joyce Waller (Dennis) and Debbie Murrell; brothers, Jim Goodwin and Sam Martin; sisters, Donna Reimer and Diana McKeen; grandchildren, Lance Wheeler, Robert Sharp Jr., Tabitha Wheeler, Meeka Cale, Emerson Murrell, Bentley Murrell and Denton Murrell and 10 great grandchildren. 

He is preceded in death by his parents; son, Larry Goodwin II; brother, Bob Goodwin and sisters, Beverly Bailey and Pam Riney. In lieu of flowers, memorials are asked to be donated to the family.

Mildred Irene Brown, 88, of Hutchinson, passed away on February 8, 2023.&nbsp; She was born June 20, 1934, in Pretty Prairie, KS, to William Jennings Bryan and Adah Catherine (Elliott) Lintecum.

Irene graduated from Nickerson Rural High School.&nbsp; She retired from 1st&nbsp;National Bank as well as Alexander’s Jewelry.&nbsp; She loved cooking, music, concerts, reading and was known as a people person.

She married Luther Robert Brown on September 19, 1953.&nbsp; They had over 65 years of marriage before his passing in 2019.

Irene is survived by: sons, Jeff (MaryAnn) Brown of Haven, and Steve; sister, Betty Warner of Hutchinson; and nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by: her parents, 3 brothers and 2 sisters, and grandson Christopher Ryan Ogden.

The family will be present for a Memorial visitation for both Luther and Irene from 2 - 4 p.m. on Saturday February 18, 2023, at Elliott Mortuary.&nbsp; Private family inurnment will take place at a later date.

Linda Lee Caley, 75, died February 12, 2023, at her home in Hutchinson. She was born May 4, 1947, in Long Beach, California, to Billy Curtis and Phyllis (Kennison) Young.

Linda graduated from Hutchinson High School in 1965. She worked for many years as a lab tech at the hospital. Linda was a member of Church of the Holy Cross, Hutchinson. She enjoyed crafts, such as coloring and cross stitch, movies, and word searches.

On August 30, 1978, Linda married Ronald Eugene Caley in Deadwood, South Dakota. He passed away on May 28, 2019.

Linda is survived by: sons, Brice Wroe (Christine), Brian Caley (Tammie), Brandon Caley (Sonya), Shawn Caley (Amy), Shane Caley (Angie); 12 grandchildren; five grandchildren; and brothers, Ed and Terry Young.&nbsp;&nbsp;

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and an infant.

Linda Lee Caley 1947-2023

Marilyn Ruth (Potter) Land was born August 4, 1939, in Iowa City, IA, the second child and only daughter of Samuel George and Inez Irene Marcella (Wright-Carson) Potter. She had an older brother, Larry Eugene, and two younger brothers, Richard Samuel and Paul Frederick. The family lived in Clarinda, IA, and Ruth, as she was always known to her family, attended Clarinda schools until 1956 when her family moved to Denver, CO where she attended high school, later graduating from Central Academy (now Central Christian College of Kansas) in McPherson, KS.

Ruth was married to Myron Black in 1963; her son Wesley Myron Black was born in 1964. She married Michael Milliken in 1981, and on April 13, 1991, was&nbsp;married to Jerome L. Land, with whom she had fallen in love as a teenager but had been prevented from marrying. They had a very happy 31 years together before his death in November 2022.

Ruth was employed at several different places in Colorado and California, retiring from Burroughs Corp/Unisys, where she was a purchasing agent, in 2001. She and Jerry moved from California to Moundridge, KS, in 2002.

In her younger years, Ruth enjoyed bowling, and was always politically active. She cheered on the Denver Broncos and the KC Royals and Chiefs. She and Jerry also enjoyed traveling together in later life and gathering with family in the holidays, with the 4th&nbsp;of July holiday being their favorite to host.

Ruth was brought up in the Free Methodist church. She belonged to Cornerstone Bible Church where she was baptized in 2022 at the age of 82.

Marilyn Ruth Land passed into eternity in the early morning hours of February 13, 2023, at Pleasant Hills Home in Hutchinson, KS. She was predeceased by her parents, husband Jerry Land, son Wesley Myron Black, brothers Richard and Paul Potter, sister-in-law Judith Potter, and great nephew Christopher Shepard.

 </figure>Marilyn Ruth (Potter) Land was born August 4, 1939, in Iowa City, IA, the second child and only daughter of Samuel George and Inez Irene Marcella (Wright-Carson) Potter. She had an older brother, Larry Eugene, and two younger brothers, Richard Samuel and Paul Frederick. The family lived in Clarinda, IA, and Ruth, as she was always known to her family, attended Clarinda schools until 1956 when her family moved to Denver, CO where she attended high school, later graduating from Central Academy (now Central Christian College of Kansas) in McPherson, KS.Ruth was married to Myron Black in 1963; her son Wesley Myron Black was born in 1964. She married Michael Milliken in 1981, and on April 13, 1991, was&nbsp;married to Jerome L. Land, with whom she had fallen in love as a teenager but had been prevented from marrying. They had a very happy 31 years together before his death in November 2022.Ruth was employed at several different places in Colorado and California, retiring from Burroughs Corp/Unisys, where she was a purchasing agent, in 2001. She and Jerry moved from California to Moundridge, KS, in 2002.In her younger years, Ruth enjoyed bowling, and was always politically active. She cheered on the Denver Broncos and the KC Royals and Chiefs. She and Jerry also enjoyed traveling together in later life and gathering with family in the holidays, with the 4th&nbsp;of July holiday being their favorite to host.Ruth was brought up in the Free Methodist church. She belonged to Cornerstone Bible Church where she was baptized in 2022 at the age of 82.Marilyn Ruth Land passed into eternity in the early morning hours of February 13, 2023, at Pleasant Hills Home in Hutchinson, KS. Deborah Denise Boomhower, 65, of Salina, KS, and formerly of McPherson, KS and New Castle, PA, passed away peacefully on Friday, February 10, 2023, at Salina Regional Health Center.&nbsp; She worked 18 years as an operator for Southwestern Bell in McPherson and then as a switchboard operator for Jameson Hospital in New Castle, PA.

Debbie was born on December 8, 1957, in McPherson, KS, the daughter of Jay and Marilee (Kemp) Keagle.&nbsp;Debbie was the oldest of four sisters, and she loved being the “Number One” daughter.&nbsp;She graduated from McPherson High School in 1976 and attended Hutchinson Community College and Fort Hays University.&nbsp;

She was united in marriage to Robert “Bob” Hauck in 1988.&nbsp;They lived in Hutchinson, KS and then moved to Kansas City.&nbsp; It was during these years in Kansas City that Debbie became a huge Chiefs football fan.&nbsp; She watched every game with enthusiasm.&nbsp; Debbie and Bob then moved to Pittsburgh, PA where she also became fanatical about the Pittsburgh Steelers. Even though she cheered for the Steelers, the Kansas City Chiefs were always number one in her heart.&nbsp;

Bob died in 1993.&nbsp; She later married James “Jim” C. Boomhower on June 16, 1997.&nbsp; Debbie and Jim moved to New Castle, PA where they were able to live close to Jim’s children and grandchildren. One of Debbie’s most treasured roles was being “mama Debbie” to Matthew, Trevor, and Lexie.&nbsp; After Jim’s death on November 18, 2008, Debbie moved back home to Kansas. She loved being able to spend valuable time with her parents, sisters, and nieces and nephews, as well as new friends made in Salina, KS, where she lived.

Debbie enjoyed cooking and baking for others.&nbsp; At her apartment home on potluck days, Debbie would be in the kitchen preparing yummy food to share with all her friends.&nbsp; She loved it!

Debbie was a fan of NBA and college basketball.&nbsp; She liked watching The Golden State Warriors and The Phoenix Suns, as well as college teams such as KU and K-State. &nbsp;

One of the highlights of her later life was purchasing her new red Ford Escape SUV, which she called “Boomie”.&nbsp; She was a proud Ford owner! &nbsp;

Debbie also loved all the pets and children in her life.&nbsp; She loved her sister Kelly’s dog, Keva, a mini golden doodle.&nbsp; Debbie would yell out, “Keeeve!”&nbsp; when she walked into the house, and Keva would run to her, wagging her tail and giving all her attention to Debbie. &nbsp;

Debbie missed her step-grandchildren after moving back to Kansas, but she doted on all her great nieces and nephews to help fill the void.&nbsp; She was excited to find just the right gift at Christmas and made a point to recognize each of them on their birthdays.&nbsp;

Debbie had many health challenges throughout her life.&nbsp; She approached each with strength, cheerfulness and a big smile. She will be missed. &nbsp;

Survivors include: her parents, Jay and Marilee Keagle of McPherson, KS; three sisters, Lori (Phil) Havens of McPherson, KS, Kelly (Hal) Havens of Lenexa, KS, and Stephanie (Darren) Whitcher of Lenexa, KS; nieces and nephews, Josh(Christy), Derek(Courtney), Audrey(Matthew), Kasey(Curtis), Brian(Kay), Abby, and Sam; great nieces and nephews, Caleb, Nathan, Landon, Lila, Graham, Cody, Jake, Teddy, Xander, Quinn, and Violet; three step-children, Dylan Boomhower, Melody Murray, and Lyric Carter; step-grandchildren, Sapphire, Matthew, Trevor, Alexis, and London; and many extended family and friends.

Carol Ann Giles, 75, died February 10, 2023, at Diversicare of Hutchinson. She was born May 22, 1947, in Wichita, KS, to Elmer Lester and Wilma Lucille (Nossaman) Spain.

Carol graduated from Kingman High School in 1965 and went on to become an LPN at Hutchinson Hospital where she retired. Carol attended Solid Rock Bible Church, South Hutchinson.

Carol is survived by sisters, Sandra Polley and Evelyn Stucky, both of Hutchinson.

Cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be held at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to Solid Rock Bible Church, in care of Elliott Mortuary, 1219 N. Main St, Hutchinson, KS 67501.

She was born May 22, 1947, in Wichita, KS, to Elmer Lester and Wilma Lucille (Nossaman) Spain.Carol graduated from Kingman High School in 1965 and went on to become an LPN at Hutchinson Hospital where she retired. Carol attended Solid Rock Bible Church, South Hutchinson.Carol is survived by sisters, Sandra Polley and Evelyn Stucky, both of Hutchinson.Cremation has taken place. Becky (Salmon) Rich, 74, died February 9, 2023, at Hospice House, Hutchinson. She was born Mary Beth Salmon on September 27, 1948, in Hutchinson, to Gerald and Bernice (Kaufman) Salmon.

Becky graduated from Buhler High School and Hutchinson Community College. She was a dedicated mother and homemaker for many years. Becky loved to spend time in nature, especially with flowers and birds. Some of her hobbies included cooking, baking, tennis, knitting, and golf. Becky was the oldest sister of five girls and loved her role as the big sister. She was also a member of Church of the Holy Cross, Hutchinson

Becky married Gary Schmidt on August 24, 1967; he passed on December 5, 1969. She married Garry Rich on July 5, 1970; he passed away on December 7, 1971. Becky married Phil Hofer on February 24, 1978, who passed away on November 21, 1989. On July 30, 1993, Becky married Dan Rich, in Hutchinson. He survives.

She is survived by: husband, Dan Rich, Hutchinson; children, Amy Albright (Rex), Hutchinson, Kathy Skinner (Clinton Troyer), Hutchinson; step children, Carey Rich, Kansas City, Missouri, Matt Rich (Brandi), Hutchinson, Carolyn Hofer Zimmerman (Mark), Salina, Paul Hofer Shannon, York, Pennsylvania; grandchildren, Ashley, Allyson, Dylan, and Zack; seven step grandchildren; sisters, Bev Wright, Hutchinson, Marsha Maatta (Jim), Cedar Rapids, Iowa, Sherri Parrish (Dan), Flower Mound, Texas, Donna Salmon, Hutchinson; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Judith Ann Cook, 75, of Valley Center, passed away on Saturday, January 28, 2023. She was born in rural Galena, Missouri to Hilman "Jack" Crumbliss and Betty Lee (Grisham) Crumbliss. She grew up in the Bridgeport area where she attended school. She graduated from Wichita Heights High School in Wichita, Kansas. After graduation, she went to Butler Community College and went on to obtain her nursing degree as an RN. She began her working career at the Veteran's Hospital, Wesley and the Kansas Heart Hospital where she retired from.&nbsp;

She had a gift of ministering and helping people not only in the medical field, but every day life. Judy accepted Christ as her Savior as a teenager at People's Free Church. She enjoyed music and played the accordian. She also enjoyed spending time in her garden and crocheting gifts of love. She loved her dogs and watching Kansas City Chiefs.&nbsp;&nbsp;

She was preceded in death by son Jason Miller, parents Jack and Betty Crumbliss, brother Ronnie Crumbliss, nephew Justin Crumbliss and husband Clint Cook.

Judith is survived by her sons James Burris and Michael Burris (Lori) of Valley Center; grandchildren Brittany, Kailee, Jacob, Timmy, Meagen, Trent, Bella and Landon; sisters Janet (Dennis) Brannan of Huntsville, Arkansas and Kathryn Baker of Kechi, Kansas, sister-in-law Vicki Crumbliss; nieces Rhonda (Lonnie) Bennett, Tonya (John) Robertson, Patricia (Brad) Cherry; nephews John Crumbliss and Christopher Baker; many other family and friends.

Andrew (Andy) E. Krause, 89, of Hillsboro, KS entered into God's Kingdom on Feb 9th, 2023. Andy was born January 4th, 1934 in Goessel, KS to Ed and Tilly Krause.

Andy joined the Army in 1951 during the Korean Conflict and was stationed in Austria where he was an Air Artillery, E6, Tech Sergeant. He was discharged in 1954 and attended welding school in Ohio. Andy married Lois Jean Maltbie (deceased) in 1955 and they lived in Canton, KS and Marion, KS. Andy was a well respected welder and specialized in pipeline welding and bridge welding and worked in KS, OK, GA, SC, NY and Washington D.C. Andy eventually concentrated his efforts to bride building and built over 30 bridges for Marion County KS. This was his preferred work and he worked well into his late 60's.

Andy was an active member of the American Legion in Hillsboro and volunteered his time for many of their community efforts. Many will fondly remember Andy for his kind spirit as he made his "rounds" walking around Hillsboro and Marion. Andy enjoyed exercising, traveling and spending time with his family and many friends.

Andy is survived by his three children, eleven grandchildren, and eleven great-grandchildren.

Gladys M. Yoder, 86, died February 10, 2023, at Mennonite Friendship Communities, South Hutchinson. She was born January 12, 1937, in Hutchinson, to Earl and Mae (Brinkmeier) Schletzbaum.

Gladys attended Countryside Baptist Church. She worked with the Fine Arts at the Kansas State Fair for many years. After retiring from bookkeeping at Hageman Accounting, Gladys learned beadwork. She made beautiful bracelets and necklaces. She enjoyed being a food judge for county fairs all over Kansas. Gladys was well known for judging food and was requested every year. Gladys was an avid cookbook collector. Gladys was very active. She always made an effort to attend her grandchildren’s events. Gladys was loving and cared for others. She was a great mom and grandma.

On August 25, 1957, she married Harold L. Yoder, at Trinity United Methodist Church, Hutchinson. They shared over 49 years of marriage, prior to his passing on January 21, 2007.

Gladys is survived by: her grandchildren, Sarah (Josh) Cowan, McPherson, Matthew Ford, Hutchinson, Kylie Ford, Hutchinson, Patrick (Kristen) Yoder, Hutchinson; brother, John (Ruth) Schletzbaum, Washington; sister, Caroline (Ray) Schmucker, Plevna; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by: her parents; husband; son, Jim Yoder; daughter, Sharon Ford; grandson, Justin Yoder; and sister, Janet Farney.

Virginia LaRee Shumpert, 61, died February 7, 2023, at Chase County Care and Rehab, Cottonwood Falls. She was born September 6, 1961, in Partridge, to Anthony David and Janice LaRee (Northrop) McGraw.

Virginia graduated from Nickerson High School in 1979. Following graduation, she attended Fort Hays State University for four years. Virginia played basketball, baseball and track in high school, and in college she was a bowler. Above all, she was a devoted mother and grandmother who always put her family first.

She was a member of South Hutchinson Christian Church.

Virginia is survived by: son, Alexander (Morgan) Shumpert of Hutchinson; brother, David (Beverly) McGraw of Brandon, FL; and grandchildren, Marcus and Charleigh.

She was preceded in death by: her parents, Anthony and Janice McGraw; sister, Colleen Millett; and two brothers, Anthony and Daniel McGraw.

Cremation has taken place. Memorial Service will be 12:30 p.m. Saturday, February 18, 2023, at Elliott Chapel, with Deacon Todd Ray officiating.

John Everett King, Jr. was born on December 25, 1947 to parents John&nbsp; Everett King and Alta Neoma King (Fielden).&nbsp; He resided in Springfield Missouri from birth until October of 1983. He went to Central High School and college at Southwest Missouri State.&nbsp; He then served in the Army where he was stationed in South Korea on the demilitarized zone. He discovered much later in life that AGENT ORANGE was used there as well as Vietnam.

John Married Judith Ann Andrews on June 29, 1974.&nbsp; They were blessed with two children.&nbsp; Jennifer Lynne (Erickson) March 8, 1980 and John Everett III July 14, 1985. Moving for various employment opportunities, the family lived in Woodstock, NY, Dayton, OH, St. Louis, MO, and in 1998 to Wichita, KS where they have been ever since.&nbsp;

John received a BS in Industrial Engineering and work with small horsepower motors for 45+ years.&nbsp; At one point he worked for a company which put him in China for weeks at a time. It was an amazing opportunity and Judi was able to join him on several occasions.

From childhood he enjoyed Collecting coins and trains and in adulthood added metal detecting to his hobbies. He was always a kid at heart and had a wonderful sense of humor and a fair amount of orneriness.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;

He adored his family. When the children were small he always had time to play with them and as they grew he found they loved to be included in his hobbies. They vacationed in places like San Diego and Yellowstone. His grandchildren were a source of pride and joy.

There wasn’t a person he would meet that he couldn’t make into a friend. Everyone he worked with both respected and liked him. His smile and sense of humor made him easy to like.

One of the most important things in his life was that he was a Christian. He accepted Christ as his Lord and Savior as a young teen and is now in the hands of Jesus Praising HIM and enjoying his new body that has no ills. He passed away Tuesday, February 7 after a brave and valliant struggle with ALS a presumptive disease from Agent Orange.

John is preceded in death by his Mother Alta King and his father John Everett King, Sr.&nbsp; He is survived by his wife Judi (Andrews) King, his daughter Jennifer (Darrin) Erickson, son John Everett (Whitney) King III, 4 grandchildren Tyler Erickson, Abbie Erickson, Evelyn King, Charlotte King and many cousins and his three furry companions; Captain, Cody and Emma.

He went to Central High School and college at Southwest Missouri State.&nbsp; He then served in the Army where he was stationed in South Korea on the demilitarized zone. He discovered much later in life that AGENT ORANGE was used there as well as Vietnam.John Married Judith Ann Andrews on June 29, 1974.&nbsp; They were blessed with two children.&nbsp; Jennifer Lynne (Erickson) March 8, 1980 and John Everett III July 14, 1985. Moving for various employment opportunities, the family lived in Woodstock, NY, Dayton, OH, St. Louis, MO, and in 1998 to Wichita, KS where they have been ever since.&nbsp;John received a BS in Industrial Engineering and work with small horsepower motors for 45+ years.&nbsp; At one point he worked for a company which put him in China for weeks at a time. It was an amazing opportunity and Judi was able to join him on several occasions.From childhood he enjoyed Collecting coins and trains and in adulthood added metal detecting to his hobbies. He was always a kid at heart and had a wonderful sense of humor and a fair amount of orneriness.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;He adored his family. When the children were small he always had time to play with them and as they grew he found they loved to be included in his hobbies. They vacationed in places like San Diego and Yellowstone. His grandchildren were a source of pride and joy.There wasn’t a person he would meet that he couldn’t make into a friend. Everyone he worked with both respected and liked him. His smile and sense of humor made him easy to like.One of the most important things in his life was that he was a Christian. He accepted Christ as his Lord and Savior as a young teen and is now in the hands of Jesus Praising HIM and enjoying his new body that has no ills. On April 8, 1959, she married&nbsp;Galen Kessler&nbsp;in Salina. They shared over 60 years of marriage.

Joy&nbsp;is survived by: children, Lyn (Jerry) Boone, and Jay Kessler, all of Hutchinson; grandsons, Casey (Sharaun) Hauschild, and Matthew Boone; and great-grandchildren, Landon, Harlow, and Henry Hauschild.

She was preceded in death by: her parents; husband, Galen; and son, Gene Kessler.

Cremation has taken place. A private memorial service will be held.

Max Lee Liby, 80, of Hutchinson, passed away on February 8th, 2023 at Hutchinson Hospital. Max was born in Concordia, KS on June 18, 1942 to Harold Edwin Liby and Reva Charlotte Felt Liby and grew up in Glasco, KS. He was preceded in death by his only sibling, Charlotte Lou Orebaugh of Hobart, OK, and his wife, Yvonne Marie Liby.

Max graduated from Fort Hays State University in 1964 and taught 7th and 8th grade science at Augusta before moving to Mankato in 1966 where he taught Biology, Earth Sciences and Psychology. While in Graduate School he taught the Botany and Embryology Labs. Max switched careers in 1972 when he took a position as a Chemist at Carey Salt Company in Hutchinson, KS. He eventually moved into the main office where he landed the position of Salt Mine Manager in 1980, which he held for 30 years, during which time he was instrumental in the creation of the Salt Mine Museum where visitors can now see his hard hat on display. He retired from the Mine Manager position in 2009 and moved to the Manager position of Hutch Transportation, the company responsible for transporting road salt via rail car. Max never fully retired, working up to the very day of his death, totaling 51 years in the salt industry.

Max was an avid aviator. He belonged to the EAA Ellsworth, KS Chapter, holding the position of Vice President. Max’s pride and joy was his J-3 Piper Cub which he totally rebuilt on his own. He is survived by many wonderful aviation friends who will miss his energetic contribution to General Aviation.

Max is survived by two sons, Harold and wife Barb, and Darren and wife Sachiko, including grandchildren Julian, Chase and Koji. He is also survived by Yvonne’s son Tom Ellis and wife Belinda, including grandchildren Luke and Lauren, and daughter Tammy Thompson and husband David, including granddaughter Aisyn.

Madlyn Lorene Rice died Saturday, January 28 at Hilltop Manor in Cunningham, KS, from complications of pneumonia. Madlyn was born October 6, 1932 in Greensburg, Kansas to Sonia and Vernon Wirth and was raised on a farm outside of Greensburg. In addition to raising grain and livestock, her father also bred and trained horses. Madlyn grew up as comfortable riding bareback as she was in the saddle. She also took piano lessons throughout her school years, becoming a skilled musician who favored the classics, especially Beethoven, and traditional hymns. In 1950 she graduated from Greensburg High School, and during the following the 12 years worked in the Greensburg office of the Agricultural Stabilization and Conservation Service, the Kiowa County Extension office, and as a legal secretary. In 1951 she married Wesley Lowell Thompson and moved to a farm near Haviland, and in 1959 they welcomed their only child, Carol Lynn. Madlyn was a skilled gardener and cook. No one turned down her chicken with homemade noodles, and her brownie sheet cake developed a loyal following among family and friends and is still revered to this day. Madlyn also participated in numerous social clubs and was a long-standing member of the Order of the Eastern Star, the Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary, and the American Legion Auxiliary. In 1970 she took what became a life-altering step by enrolling in a class “…just for fun” at Friends Bible College (now Barclay College) in Haviland. One class became two, then three, and she was hooked. Although she didn’t yet have a specific goal, Madlyn had developed a passion for learning. Serendipity intervened when her science instructor, Jim Leininger, told her about two other midlife scholars - Noreen Monaghan of Haviland and Beverly Day-Swan of Greensburg - who were hatching a plan to earn their nursing degrees. Madlyn met with them, and the threesome formed a combination carpool/study group. After earning their remaining prerequisites at St. Mary of the Plains College in Dodge City, they enrolled in the nursing program at Barton County Community College in Great Bend, Kansas. Several years and countless miles later, Madlyn earned her nursing degree from Barton County in 1976, and for 25 years she found tremendous fulfillment working as a nurse in a variety of settings - from hospitals to nursing homes to private residences. She also continued her education, coming within a single class of earning her bachelor’s degree. In 1979 her first marriage ended. Through her work she met Mark Rice, and in 1981 they married. That same year she moved to Greensburg to help care for her mother while Mark stayed on his farm near Pratt. Since she worked in Pratt, she often stayed with Mark, who taught her how to make the perfect steak. They enjoyed quiet days on the farm and traveling together in the Southwest. During her years in Greensburg she joined many local clubs and picked up two new enthusiasms - golf and bridge. Then, in May 2007 the big tornado hit, and Madlyn, like everyone else in Greensburg, had to pick up the pieces of her old life and build something new. She said it was one of the hardest things she’d ever faced and that at times she felt like giving up. Instead, she steadfastly put one foot in front of the other, purchasing a house in Pratt; joining the First Southern Baptist Church; and volunteering to work at the hospital information desk and as a dispatcher for the Pratt community bus. Gradually the pieces knit together, and life was full and satisfying again. In 2013 she moved to assisted living at Parkwood Village. Although her balance and arthritis had worsened, she participated in activities there and continued to enthusiastically shop, lunch, and attend community events with a group of close friends. She was preceded in death by her parents Sonia and Vernon Wirth, her husband Mark Rice, and her brother Victor (Monte) Wirth. She is survived by her daughter Carol Thompson of San Jose, CA and Carol’s partner Mark Jackman; niece Deborah Bane of Edwardsville, IL; nephew Van Wirth of Strongsville, OH; and cousins Chris Wirth of Firestone, CO and Steve Gilham of Waukomis MO. A memorial service will be held on Friday, February 10 at 4 pm at Larrison Mortuary, 300 Country Club Rd in Pratt with Pastor Steve Taylor presiding. Ramona “Jean” Nelson, 88, of Marquette, KS, passed away peacefully on Monday, February 6, 2023, surrounded by family at Harmony Home, McPherson.&nbsp; She was a homemaker, Avon representative, school bus driver for USD 400, and CNA at Riverview Estates.

Jean was born on February 22, 1934, in McPherson, KS, the daughter of Sten Paul and Ruth Agnes (Tate) Jader.&nbsp; She graduated from Marquette High School in 1952.&nbsp; Jean was united in marriage to Charles Junior “Chuck” Jimerson on April 6, 1951, in Marquette, KS.&nbsp; He died December 29, 1983.&nbsp; She married Donald Leroy Nelson on July 6, 1984, in Lindsborg, KS.&nbsp;

She was a member of Valley Community Church, American Legion Auxiliary, and Town &amp; Country Club.

Survivors include: her husband, Don Nelson of Marquette, KS; children, Randy Jimerson (Rosa) of Abilene, KS, Deryl Jimerson (Christy) of Council Grove, KS, and Paula Jean Best (Mike) of Marquette, KS; step-children, Brenda Nelson of Hutchinson, KS and Shari Geren (Brad) of Windom, KS; eight grandchildren, Charles Jimerson, IV, Christine Hurt (Brandon), Joshua Jimerson, Jordan Tabares (Teeino), Mandy Kutina (Doug), Chad Jimerson, Braxton Best, and Bayle Jean Best; seven step-grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and several nieces &amp; nephews.

William H. Astle, age 96, passed away on Feb. 6, 2023 at Kenwood Plaza, St. John, KS. He was born on April 29, 1926 in Haven, KS, the son of William Homer and Marie A. (Guhl) Astle. Bill was a resident of St. John since 1964. 

On Nov. 11, 1949, he married Doris Jean (Cadman) in Hutchinson, KS., she preceded him in death in 2012. 

Bill served in the U.S. Navy during WWII, and worked as an oil field pumper throughout his life. He was a member of Antrim United Methodist Church, a life member of the VFW, a former member of the Lions Club, and St. John Saddle Club, and formerly was the treasurer for Rose Valley Township. 

Survivors include two sons, Chuck Astle, Pratt, KS, Jim (Debra) Astle, St. John, KS; a daughter, Ann Franco, Pratt, KS; 6 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by both parents; his wife; 2 step-brothers, Bob and Tom Cantwell; sisters, Dorothy Chain, Ruth Aleshire, and Mary Hardy. 

Visitation will be from 1:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. on Tues, Feb. 14th at Minnis Chapel, St. John, KS. Funeral service will be 10:00 A.M. William H. Astle |1926-2023|

Dixon Steadman, 91, of Chase, Kansas, passed away February 6, 2023, at Wesley Medical Center, Wichita, Kansas. He was born on November 30, 1931, in St. John, Kansas, the son of Clifford Nelson and Blanche Ilene Dixon Steadman. 

Dixon has resided in Chase since 1977, formerly of Wichita. He graduated from Radium High School, Radium, Kansas, with the class of 1949. Dixon served in the United States Marine Corps during the Korean War from July 24, 1952 until January 26, 1962, attaining the rank of Sergeant. He received the following awards for his service, Korean Service War, UN Service Medal, National Defensive Service Medal, Good Conduct Medal, Korean PUC, Navy Unit Sitation, Drill Instructor, and Korean Defense Service Medal. 

Dixon drove truck for United Van Lines for 16 years, 4 years for Alexander, and retired from Smithway in 2000. Dixon was a life member of the VFW McPherson Post #2715. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, and most of all spending time with his grandchildren. On August 24, 1953, Dixon was united in marriage with Goldie Mae Simmons in Ellinwood, Kansas. She preceded him in death on December 20, 1999. He is also preceded in death by his parents, and five children, Debra McClelland, Clifford Steadman, Floyd Steadman, Tredda Steadman, and Goldie Mathis. Dixon is survived by numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren. 

Funeral service will be at 10:00 A.M., Monday, February 13, 2023, at Birzer Funeral Home, Lyons, with Johnnie Hardie officiating. Burial will follow at Chase Springdale Cemetery, Chase, with military honors by the United States Marine Honor Guard, Patriot Guard and the McPherson VFW Post #2715. Visitation will be from 2:00 until 4:00 P.M., Sunday, February 12, 2023, at Birzer Funeral Home, Lyons, with family present. Memorials may be given to the Wounded Warrior Project in care of Birzer Funeral Home, Lyons.

 </figure>Dixon Steadman, 91, of Chase, Kansas, passed away February 6, 2023, at Wesley Medical Center, Wichita, Kansas. He was born on November 30, 1931, in St. John, Kansas, the son of Clifford Nelson and Blanche Ilene Dixon Steadman. Dixon has resided in Chase since 1977, formerly of Wichita. He graduated from Radium High School, Radium, Kansas, with the class of 1949. Dixon served in the United States Marine Corps during the Korean War from July 24, 1952 until January 26, 1962, attaining the rank of Sergeant. He received the following awards for his service, Korean Service War, UN Service Medal, National Defensive Service Medal, Good Conduct Medal, Korean PUC, Navy Unit Sitation, Drill Instructor, and Korean Defense Service Medal. Judith “Judy” Clare Engelland, 83, died Feb. 6, 2023, in Sterling, Kansas, after a long battle with scleroderma. She was at peace and surrounded by family as she went to be with her Lord.

Judy was born May 9, 1939, to James and Barbara Buel of Sterling. She graduated from Sterling High School in 1957 and married her high school sweetheart John Engelland on August 28, 1960.

She graduated from Sterling High School in 1957 and married her high school sweetheart John Engelland on August 28, 1960.Early in their marriage, they lived in Lawrence while John completed his engineering degree at the University of Kansas and Judy worked in administration at the KU math department. They then moved to Albuquerque, New Mexico, for John’s work. Their oldest son Shawn was born there. Then they moved to Rose Hill, Kansas, to be closer to family, where sons Mark and Brent were born.In 1974, the family returned to Sterling to take over the family farm. Sterling was Judy’s home the rest of her life. While John handled the farm, Judy took charge of the accounting. The couple earned the Kansas Master Farmer and Farm Homemaker award in 1992 for leadership and service to agriculture.Faith and family were central to her life. She enjoyed working with youth in Albuquerque, Rose Hill, and at Sterling First United Methodist Church, where she was a member for more than 50 years. Whether working with youth or in other ministries, Judy put her faith into action. Whenever there was a church youth activity, you could find Judy working to make positive experiences for everyone. From opening her home to organizing mission trips to Mexico, Judy led by example. Throughout her life, her family counted on her as a faithful prayer warrior.Judy enjoyed crafting and was an excellent cook and baker. She always made family gatherings and holidays special and treasured time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.She and John traveled frequently. They enjoyed 40th and 50th anniversary trips with their children and grandchildren, first to Red River, New Mexico, and then on a Caribbean cruise. The highlight of the couple’s travels was a 2017 trip with their pastor to the Holy Land.If you knew Judy, you were blessed. She treated everyone with kind, thoughtful attention, truly embodying Jesus’ command to put others before self. Her family and friends thank God for her because they received the rich blessing of her caring nature. She leaves behind a lasting legacy and example to follow.She is survived by her faithful husband John; son Shawn and daughter in-law Sandra Engelland of Keller, Texas; son Mark and daughter in-law Sarah Engelland of Sterling; son Brent and daughter in-law Laura Engelland of Hutchinson; grandchildren Rachel, Elizabeth, Rebekah, Nathan, Dillon, Anna, Hannah, Jacob, Hayley, Marianna, and Evelyn; great grandsons Elliot and Lukas; sister Sally and brother in-law Jim Haggerty of Sterling; and brother Bob and sister in-law Vicki Buel of Manhattan.Funeral service will be at 2pm Friday, Feb. 10 at the First United Methodist Church of Sterling. Burial at Sterling Cemetery will follow. Visitation will be 2pm to 7pm Thursday, Feb. 9 at Birzer Funeral Home, Sterling.
