Hazel Ellen (Shanabrook) Lewis Moore, was born February 22, 1925 in Fredericktown, Ohio to Marshall Alvin Shanabrook and Lula Eva (Strong) Shanabrook. She passed away on May 17th, 2023 in Newton, Kansas.
Preceded in death by her husbands Arthur E. Lewis and Carl Moore, son Arthur Daniel Lewis, brothers Daniel Shanabrook and Paul Shanabrook, sisters Gladys Peterman and Alice Dillion, step sisters Barbara Huff, Andrea Wood and Patricia Ann Monk.
Hazel is survived by her daughter & son-in-law, Linda and Roy McFarland of Valley Center, Kansas; grandsons Roy McFarland, Jr. of Wichita, Kansas and Todd McFarland of Lewisville, Texas; great grandchildren Roy McFarland III, Hannah McFarland, Katelyn (Jason) Barriqree of Wichita and Logan (Morgan) McFarland of Norwick, Kansas; great great grandchildren Olivia and Heath Vaughn, Jr of Wichita, Emersyn Baraqree of Wichita and Harper McFarland of Norwick, Kansas.
She was a member of Gambier Epworth United Methodist Church of Gambier, Ohio, attended the First United Methodist Church in Valley Center, Kansas. She had been a Brownie and Girl Scout Leader for many years. Worked at the Ohio Eastern Star Homes in Mount Vernon, Ohio until she retired. Hazel moved to Valley Center in 1992 after losing her second husband Carl Moore, to be close to her daughter and family. She volunteered at the Wichita Botanical Gardens for 30 years and won the Golden Star Award there in 2014. She was a member of the Little Arkansas DAR Chapter in Valley Center, Kansas.
Memorials may be designated in her memory to the Botanical Gardens of Wichita (Attn: Kathy Osler) and the Good Shepherd Hospice of Newton.
