Nathaniel “Than” Lee Fishback, 71, passed away on May 23, 2023 at Hospice House, Hutchinson, KS, after a five year battle with cancer, surrounded by his family. He was born on August 11, 1951 in Skidmore, MO, the son of Lyle L. and Mary Ann (Barber) Fishback.
On February 4, 1978, Than married Lola Buster in Galva, KS, to this union they were blessed with three children, Zach, Logan and Misty. In 1970, Than enlisted in the United States Army and served in the Vietnam War. He was honorably discharged on October 2, 1972. Than worked at Certainteed as a forklift operator and retired after 30 years. In his spare time, he enjoyed fishing, hunting, knife making and chasing his grandchildren.
Than is survived by his mother, Mary Ann; a son, Zach (Jessi) Fishback and their two children, Addison (Zachary) Lott and Jillian Fishback; a daughter, Misty (Chris) Fishback-Milleson and their seven children, Jackie Milleson, Jamie Milleson, Dakota Nees, Rachel Milleson, Kinsley Nees, Alexa Milleson and Logan Milleson; mother of his children, Lola (Mark) Fishback Schlesinger; and a brother, Dale (Sandy) Fishback.
He was preceded in death by his father, Lyle; a son, Logan Fishback, and a brother, Keith Fishback.
Per Than’s wishes, cremation has taken place. A Celebration of Life will be held from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. at the McPherson American Legion, 401 N. Main St, McPherson, KS. Military honors will be presented by The American Legion Post 24, VFW Post 2715 and Taps conducted by Mark Casebeer at 3:00 p.m. To help with funeral expenses, memorial contributions can be made to Misty Fishback or Zach Fishback and sent in care of Hutchinson Funeral Chapel, 300 E. 30th Ave. Hutchinson, KS 67502.
