Bob Wayne Nickel |1941-2023|

Bob Wayne Nickel, 81, of Newton, Kansas, passed away Tuesday, April 25, 2023 at Wesley Medical Center in Wichita. He was born October 24, 1941 in Hillsboro, Kansas, the son of Arnold and Lena (Gossen) Nickel.

He graduated from Oakley High School with the class of 1960.

Bob worked as a warehouse manager for a feed company and was an over the road truck driver for 22 years. He later managed the Buhler COOP Fuel Station for several years.

He spent his free time wood carving, and volunteering at the salt mines in Hutchinson. Above all, Bob enjoyed spending time with his grandkids and would often be their personal bus driver and babysitter.

He was united in marriage to LaDonna “Kay” Ledford on August 13, 1977. She survives of the home.

Other survivors include his son, Troy (Susan) Nickel of Salina; daughter, Clarissa (Eric) Bontrager of Newton; five grandchildren, Savannah, Sandra, Hannah, Emma, and Cade; brother, Roy Nickel of Oakley; and three sisters, Lois Schroeder of Buhler, Julie Whitman of St. Francis, and Alma Becker of Arizona.

Bob was preceded in death by his parents; infant son, Cory Nickel; brother, John; and sisters, Irene and Joan.
