Nina Koehn, 94, of Moundridge, Kansas, passed away Monday, April 27, 2020 at Moundridge Manor. She was born November 26, 1925 in Verden, Oklahoma, the daughter of Nathaniel and Hannah (Schmidt) Zeiset.&nbsp;

She was a devoted homemaker. Nina was a member of Grace Mennonite Congregation in Halstead.

Nina was united in marriage to Herman S. Koehn on October 19, 1986 in Chickasha, Oklahoma. He preceded her in death on February 17, 1995.

She is survived by her stepsons, Truman (Aurel) Koehn of McPherson, Melvin Koehn of Moundridge, Jerald (Linda) Koehn of Halstead, Dennis (Martha) Koehn of Alabama, and Gene Koehn of Ruleville, Mississippi; sister, Johanna (Franklin) Toews of Moundridge; 31 step-grandchildren and many step-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; five brothers; four sisters; two stepsons; one stepdaughter; and two stepdaughters-in-law

Ann Elizabeth (Stoppel) Gilbreath, 90, of Russell, Kansas, passed away Sunday, April 26, 2020, at Main Street Manor in Russell.

Ann was born January 12, 1930, on a farm south of Dorrance Kansas.  She was one of five children born to Alexander and Bertha (Galyardt) Stoppel.  The family then moved to Lucas Kansas where she attended school and graduated from Lucas High School. Shortly after graduating from High School, Ann moved to California where she went to school and lived in Southern California until 2015, when she moved back to Kansas to be near family.

Ann was united in marriage to Jack Gilbreath.  They divorced later in life.  Jack preceded her in death.  Ann was known as "Aunt Betty" or "Betty Ann" to her family in Kansas. In California, all her friends knew her as "Ann".  Ann was a Secretary for many businesses in California until her retirement. She also was a Hostess for Wine Shows and Tastings in California.  She enjoyed traveling and spending time with family and friends, and going out to eat. She also enjoyed entertaining when her family came to visit her in California.

Surviving family include two brothers, Harold Stoppel (Betty) of Hutchinson, Kansas and Melvin Stoppel (Janice) of Russell, Kansas; brother-in-law Ben Griffin of LaFayette, Georgia, and several nieces, nephews and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, and two sisters, Lucille Steinert and Carol Jean Griffin, two nieces, Alane Radke and Darlene Henry, and two nephews, Alfred Steponick and Keith Stoppel.

A Graveside service will be held at 1:00 P.M., Thursday, April 30, 2020, at the St. John Lutheran Cemetery in Russell, Kansas. She was a member of Gospel Mennonite Church.

Cora was a certified nurse’s aide, working for Moundridge Manor for 25 years.

She was united in marriage to Alden Peters on June 7, 1959.

Cora is survived by her children, LuErla Ann (Larry) Heinrich of Shawnee, KS, Eugene Peters of Pryor, OK, and Velda (David) Hoover of Pryor, OK; brother, Weldo (Gladys) Unruh of Scott City, KS; sisters, Lillian (Steve) Shultz of Clarksdale, MS, Elizabeth (Michael) Unruh of Iroquois, SD, and Irene (Michael) Smith of Clarksdale, MS; three grandchildren, Lance Heyen, Tracy (Jessica) Peters, and Teresa Peters; and nine great-grandchildren.

She was united in marriage to Arthur Henry “Art” Koehn on December 14, 1947 in Halstead. He preceded her in death on July 4, 2019.

Martha Jane Althaus Nickels, 92, of Hutchinson, died April 24, 2020, at Waldron Place Assisted Living, Hutchinson. On September 3, 1927, she was the seventh child born to Arthur A. and Arnie V. (Nelson) Althaus, in Turon.

Jane attended the Preston and Turon public schools. She graduated from Turon High School in 1945, attended Kansas State Teachers College, Emporia, and taught at Turon Grade School.

Jane married Clarence A. Nickels, in 1947. They moved to the Plevna area in 1949, where they raised their children.

She is survived by her children, Paula (Darrell) Johnson of Kansas City, and Andy (Rebecca) Nickels of Plevna; grandsons, Rob (Angie) Johnson of Wichita, Ryan Johnson of Kansas City, MO, Cody (Kelsy) Nickels of Langdon, and Clint (Emily) Nickels of Plevna; granddaughter, Rhonda (Shane) Davis of Wichita; great-grandchildren, Makenna Johnson and Cole Johnson of Wichita, Cohen Johnson and Reese Johnson of Kansas City, MO, and Case Nickels of Plevna.

Iris Jean Tuxhorn, 91, of Hutchinson, went to be with her Lord and Savior on April 23, 2020, at Wesley Medical Center, Wichita. She was born January 8, 1929, in Little Rock, Arkansas, to Leonidas and Nettie (Morgan) Robbins.

On November 1, 1947, Iris married Harold Richard Tuxhorn, Sr., in Byers, Colorado.&nbsp; They shared over 72 years of marriage.

Iris was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and great-great-grandmother, and will be missed greatly by everyone who knew her. The family takes comfort in knowing that she is with her eternal father in Heaven.

Glenn Wright Carey, 86, of Moundridge, Kansas, passed away Thursday, April 23, 2020 at Pleasant View Home in Inman. He was born October 1, 1933 in Richton, Mississippi, the son of Charles Washington and Bessie (Wright) Carey.

He attended schools in Richton, Mississippi. After his military service, he graduated as a machinist at Jones County Junior College in Mississippi.

He was united in marriage to Allie Faye Frye on September 15, 1957. She preceded him in death on October 23, 1980. He later married Carolee Goering on February 14, 1982. She passed away on December 23, 2007.

Glenn served in the United States Army as a power bridge specialist from 1952 until 1974, retiring with the company E. 10th&nbsp;Engineer Battalion 3rd&nbsp;infantry division, attaining the rank of Staff Sergeant. During his time in the Army, Glenn served two tours in Vietnam, where he received the Bronze Star and the following citations and decorations; National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal with five Bronze Service Stars, Vietnam Campaign Medal with 60 Device, three Overseas Bars, six Service Stripes, Sharpshooter Badge (Rifle M-14, Army Occupation Medal, Vietnam Cross of Gallantry with Palm, Army Commendation Medal, and Good Conduct Medal. With his military career, he served all over the world, including Hawaii, Germany and many locations in the United States.

He moved to Moundridge in 1981 and was a member of the Eden Mennonite Church.

Glenn loved his horses. He had a doctor’s buggy that he drove.&nbsp; He had a passion for traveling and fishing. Above all, he has a special love for his family.

He is survived by his sons, Eddie (Sheila) Carey of Moundridge, Kevin (Vickie) Carey of Richton, MS, and James Carey of Moundridge; step daughter, Colleen (Gary) Brown of Topeka; sister, Dolly Edwards of Richton, MS; thirteen grandchildren and several great-grandchildren.

He was also preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Angela Peterson; daughter-in-law, Ruth (Wedel) Carey; brothers, Charles Washington Carey, Jr. and Roy Carey; and sister, Anna Lois Valentine.

Robert ‘Bob’ Dean Beltz, 92, of Haven, died the evening of April 22, 2020, at Haven house. He was born January 19, 1928, outside Bazine, KS, the son of John and Daisy (Fitzsimmons) Beltz. Bob was a 196 graduate of Haven High School. In 1949 he graduated from Hutchinson Junior Colleg, which is where he met, and was totally smitten by Nancy McElhinney, who became his wife of over 66 years. Bob married Nancy on July 19, 1949, in Sylvia.

Bob was a farmer, rancher, and horseman. He farmed outside of Haven. Bob was an excellent horseman and horse trainer. Bob was a member of the Kansas Western Horseman Association and Wichita Area Team Penning, earning numerous outstanding awards in both showing and penning. He was a long time member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church of Haven.

Bob was known for his phenomenal wit, sense of humor, and warming smile. He never lacked for a joke, amusing anecdote, or song (he also had a beautiful singing voice) to fit any occasion, many of which he taught to his kids and grandkids over the years! Bob had such a meticulously organized shop, that those working with him knew if tools were left lying around, they would likely be stamped B-O-B and placed in the correctly labeled drawer! He loved his family and was always thrilled to have visits from his grand and great-grandchildren, always game for a horse or tractor ride.

Bob is survived by: daughters, Cindy Lott and Jan Beltz; granddaughter, Brynn Howard (Michael Loughrie, her children, Vance, Brooke, Dustin, and Tanner; granddaughter, Taryn (Brooks) Dohrman, her children, Brayden, Trey, and Haylie; and grandson, Colton Howard.

 </figure>Robert ‘Bob’ Dean Beltz, 92, of Haven, died the evening of April 22, 2020, at Haven house. He was born January 19, 1928, outside Bazine, KS, the son of John and Daisy (Fitzsimmons) Beltz. Bob was a 196 graduate of Haven High School. In 1949 he graduated from Hutchinson Junior Colleg, which is where he met, and was totally smitten by Nancy McElhinney, who became his wife of over 66 years. Bob married Nancy on July 19, 1949, in Sylvia.Bob was a farmer, rancher, and horseman. He farmed outside of Haven. Bob was an excellent horseman and horse trainer. Bob was a member of the Kansas Western Horseman Association and Wichita Area Team Penning, earning numerous outstanding awards in both showing and penning. He was a long time member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church of Haven.Bob was known for his phenomenal wit, sense of humor, and warming smile. He never lacked for a joke, amusing anecdote, or song (he also had a beautiful singing voice) to fit any occasion, many of which he taught to his kids and grandkids over the years! Bob had such a meticulously organized shop, that those working with him knew if tools were left lying around, they would likely be stamped B-O-B and placed in the correctly labeled drawer! Deanna A. Mitchell, 78, of Belton, Mo., passed away April 21, 2020.

Deanna was born May 8, 1941, in Hutchinson, Kan., to C. Lloyd and Ida Murphy. She graduated from Hutchinson High in 1960 and married her high school sweetheart, Douglas M. Mitchell, on March 29, 1961. They were married for 51 years.

Deanna worked a number of jobs to help support her family, starting as a secretary for Decker &amp; Mattison Co. while Doug attended Hutchinson Community College. She later was a Boy Scout den mother in Partridge, and a choir director for the Methodist Church in Pretty Prairie, where she also was an Avon sales representative and drove the kindergarten bus route (in a station wagon). Deanna served the De Soto School District as a library aide in two elementary schools for more than a decade and showed her children a strong work ethic by working as the district's painter during sweltering Kansas summers.

Deanna continued to work in school libraries, as well as the USD 308 media center, after the couple moved home to Hutchinson in 1991. Doug and Deanna both retired from USD 308 after more than 15 years of service.

She enjoyed crocheting blankets for family and friends, making quilts for their babies and was a first-rate cook. She was a good softball player in her youth, an outstanding bowler into her mid-60s and loved to cheer on the Royals, Chiefs and Jayhawks. She hiked up Pikes Peak in Colorado four times with her beloved father. And like her "Pa," she loved to tell stories, regardless of how many times you had already heard them.

Doug and Deanna were avid gardeners, and she delighted in making, canning and sharing&nbsp; homemade salsa with ingredients from their own backyard.

She was preceded in death by her parents and stepmother, Sarah ‘Peggy’ Murphy; husband; and son-in-law Donald Coffman.

She is survived by her three children: son Douglas Mitchell of the Bronx, New York; daughter Darla Coffman of Peculiar, Mo.; and son David Mitchell (Michelle Renner) of Shawnee, Kan.

Deanna also is survived by six grandchildren: Kellee Coffman (Tony Culley) of Harrisonville, Mo.; Kylee Pennay of Independence, Mo.; Jack Mitchell of Cresskill, N.J.; and Renee Mitchell, Eleanor Mitchell and Samuel Mitchell of Shawnee, Kan.; three great grandsons: Weston Coffman, Jack Pennay and Lincoln Pennay, all of Independence, Mo.; and one great granddaughter, Kynlee Culley of Harrisonville, Mo.

Other survivors include her sister, Deloris Murphy of Kansas City, Mo.; three brothers: James (Lois) Murphy of Stockbridge, Ga.; Johnie (Opal) Murphy of Palermo, Calif.; and Bill (Jan) Murphy of Sonora, Calif., and more than a dozen nieces and nephews.

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic and related restrictions on large gatherings, the family plans to hold a memorial service at a later date. A private burial will be at Laurel Cemetery, near Haven.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Hutchinson Public Library, in care of Elliott Mortuary, 1219 N. Main St., Hutchinson, Kan. 67501.

The family takes comfort knowing Doug and Deanna are together again. And after seven years apart, he is probably ready to hear some of her favorite stories again.

Kent Stiggins, 60, formerly of Hutchinson, died April 22, 2020, at Heritage Oaks Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. He was born November 22, 1959, in Hutchinson, to Norval Wightman and LaVerna ‘Beryl’ (Carson) Stiggins.&nbsp;

Kent graduated from Hutchinson High School in 1978. He worked at TECH in the sorting and recyclables. Kent was a member of Eastwood Church of Christ. He enjoyed bowling, drawing, horses, and attending the NJCAA basketball tournament every year.

Kent is survived by:&nbsp; brother, Larry Stiggins; brother-in-law, Tony Colle; niece, Stephanie Wood (Tye); nephews, Todd Stiggins (Erin, Trey Colle (Sarah, Trent Colle (Amber); cousins, Rick Layman (Marla) and Terry Layman (Carole); six great-nephews; and two great-nieces.

Wayne E. Wilson, 90, died April 21, 2020, at Hutchinson Regional Medical Center. He was born August 23, 1929, in Hutchinson, to Earl and Faith (Chambers) Wilson.

Wayne worked for the Santa Fe Railroad for 40 years as a signal maintainer and was a member of the Brotherhood of Railroad Signalmen. He served in the United States Army from 1952 to 1954. Wayne enjoyed antique trailer and tractor pulls, parades, and canoe racing. He was a member of First Congregational Church.

On July 15, 1950, he married Pauline Fortner. She died November 14, 2013. They shared almost 63 years of marriage.

Wayne is survived by: daughter, Cathleen Wilson of Hutchinson; sister, Win Edwards; and nieces, Linda Webb and Faith Edwards, all of Albuquerque, NM.

Due to the current coronavirus situation, a private graveside service will be held Thursday, April 23, 2020, at Memorial Park Cemetery, Hutchinson, with Pastor Matt Stafford officiating. Military honors will be conducted by the Kansas Army National Guard. Friends may call from 9 to 11 a.m. Thursday. Wilma Pauline Yoder, 100, died April 20, 2020 at Mennonite Manor, South Hutchinson, KS. She was born July 12, 1919 in Haven, KS., the daughter of Abraham F. and Susie C. (Miller) Miller.&nbsp;

Wilma was a homemaker. She was an avid quilter and loved flower and vegetable gardening. Wilma was a longtime member of the Yoder Mennonite Church as she was the first baby born into the church. She later transferred her membership to Faith Mennonite Church in South Hutchinson. Wilma volunteered at Mennonite Manor and the Et Cetera Shop in Hutchinson, KS.&nbsp;

Wilma married Rufus W. Yoder on July 28, 1940 in Yoder, KS. He died November 16, 1994.

Wilma was also preceded in death by her parents; daughters, Mary Kay Yoder and Emma June Yoder; brother, Samuel Miller; sisters, Katie Yoder, Emma Yutzy and Mabel Bontrager; and son-in-law, Philip Zongker.

Survivors include sons, Leonard (Marilyn) Yoder, Hutchinson, KS., Willard “Bill” (Dora) Yoder, Gorham, KS.; daughter, Jane Zongker, South Hutchinson, KS.; brother, Calvin (Delores) Miller, New Port Richey, FL.; nine grandchildren and seventeen great-grandchildren.

Melba Inez Smith, 85, died April 19, 2020, at her home. She was born March 6, 1935, in Graham, Oklahoma, the daughter of A.C. and Tressie (Gage) Self.

Melba graduated from high school in Hobbs, New Mexico, and worked in the fabrication department at Kaiser Aluminum for many years. She was a longtime member of Eagles Aerie #2550.

On November 25, 1967, she married Jacob K. ‘Jake’ Smith in Hutchinson. He died August 14, 2002.

Melba is survived by: daughters, Dian Fleming, Kansas, OK, Pamela Kennicott, South Hutchinson, Sandra Hargrove, Columbia, TN; eight grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; sister, Zella Nixon, Dallas, TX; numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

She was preceded in death by: her parents; son, Randal Barton; sisters, Lavonne and Cathleen; and brother, A.C.

Joan Nelson, 87, of Wichita, passed away on April 18, 2020, at Ascension Via Christi- St. Francis in Wichita. She was born April 15, 1933, at Hutchinson, the daughter of James and Myrtle Long.

Joan graduated from Hutchinson High School in 1951. She worked for Meyers- Williams Photography and retired after 23 years. She had also worked at The Model and West Street Toybox. Joan had many hobbies and interests. She enjoyed gardening, pets, genealogy, Elvis and listening to country music. But most of all she enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren. She had a fondness for sweets and loved to make desserts. There was always a full candy dish of M&amp;M’s in her house.

Joan was preceded in death by her parents; a sister, Betty Jean; brothers, Vearl Lynn and Richard.

Survivors include her daughter, Vicky DeGeer, Wichita; sons, Randall Nelson and wife Kim of Tulsa, OK., Rodney Nelson of Wichita; two sisters, Mary Brown and husband Bob and Janis Smyth, all of Hutchinson; three brothers, Dean Long of Hutchinson, Roy Long and wife Bertha of Windom and Ronald Long and wife Jan of Hutchinson; two grandchildren Warren Nelson and Molly Nelson of Tulsa, OK.

She was born April 15, 1933, at Hutchinson, the daughter of James and Myrtle Long.Joan graduated from Hutchinson High School in 1951. She worked for Meyers- Williams Photography and retired after 23 years. She had also worked at The Model and West Street Toybox. Joan had many hobbies and interests. She enjoyed gardening, pets, genealogy, Elvis and listening to country music. But most of all she enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren. She had a fondness for sweets and loved to make desserts. Joyce Brosius Nusser, 91, of Hutchinson, passed away on April 18, 2020, at Country Living of Larned Memory Unit in Larned, KS, where she has been a resident.

She was born April 25, 1928, at Hutchinson, the daughter of Harold J. and Bertha (Lenz) Brosius. She lived in the Plevna and Sylvia Communities all her life, graduating from Sylvia High School in 1946. On February 10, 1950, Joyce married Arthur Nusser of Plevna, KS. He passed away on October 2, 1981. She worked at the Sylvia State Bank for several years, moving to Hutchinson in 1983. She was a member of Our Redeemer Lutheran Church, and of the Silver Leaf Chapter #464 of the Order of the Eastern Star since 1989.

Survivors include her son, Gene Nusser of, Larned; a daughter, Connie Nusser, Tulsa, OK; three grandchildren, William (Katelyn) Nusser, Larned, Eugene Nusser, Wichita and Heather Nusser, Knoxville, TN; three great grandchildren, Kai Blakely, Knoxville, TN, Landon Nusser, Wichita and Reese Nusser, Wichita. Richard Ratzlaff, 96, of Hutchinson, died April 19, 2020, at Hospice House, in Hutchinson.

He was born June 9, 1923, to Dan and Anna (Graber) Ratzlaff, in Pretty Prairie.

&nbsp;He grew up on a farm and spent his first eight years at Sam Hill Grade School. He graduated from Castleton High School in 1941 and from Bethel College, North Newton, in 1948. Richard and Velma Schwartz were married in 1948, in Pretty Prairie.

Rich completed his seminary studies at Mennonite Biblical Seminary in Chicago, in 1953. He was a pastor in Mennonite churches his entire life. Churches pastored were at Deer Creek, OK, Chicago, IL, Holland, PA, Liberal, and Hutchinson. Interim pastoring included Halstead, Inman and Wichita. He and Velma spent four years as co-director&nbsp; at Camp Mennoscah , Murdock. Rich retired in 1988 and spent 25 years enjoying country living near Lake Cheney.

Rich spent many years volunteering at TTV-ETC shop in Hutchinson, being a founding member of the store’s organization. He was an active Civitan member.

His hobbies included reading, fishing, golfing, leather tooling, wood carving and photography.

In 2014, Rich and Velma moved to Mennonite Friendship Communities in South Hutchinson, where he spent his last 5 ½ enjoyable years.

Survivors are: wife, Velma; sons, Tim of Newton, Tom (Donna, Newton; grandchildren, Jen (Cody)Buchanan, Denver, CO, Brian Ratzlaff, Lawrence; great-grandchildren, Dylan and Julian Buchanan; brother, Marlan (Marvella, Moundridge.

He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Floyd and Milford (Patricia).

Allen Dale Roberson, 63, died April 19, 2020, at his home.&nbsp; He was born May 14, 1956, in Hutchinson, to Thomas F. ‘Tommy’ and Mary Catherine (Berry) Roberson.

Allen graduated Hutchinson High School in 1974, and Hutchinson Community College.&nbsp; He retired as a salesman with Dillard’s in Wichita, and most recently, enjoyed volunteering at the Delos V. Smith Senior Citizens Center.&nbsp;

On August 16, 2018, he married Rebecca ‘Becky’ (Stout) Warner, in Hutchinson.&nbsp; Becky and Allen attended high school together, and while in high school, performed theatrical productions together.&nbsp; After they were married, they enjoyed many trips to the Kansas, Oklahoma, and Las Vegas casinos.

Allen is survived by his wife, Becky of Hutchinson; and brothers, Wayne Roberson of Hutchinson, and William ‘Bill’ Roberson of Manhattan.

Due to the coronavirus, a celebration of Allen’s life will be held at a later date at the Delos V. Smith Senior Citizens Center.&nbsp; Friends may sign his book from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Wednesday through Monday at Elliott Mortuary.&nbsp;

Maxine Powell, 95, of Hutchinson, died April 18, 2020, at Legend of Hutchinson.&nbsp; She was born September 5, 1924, in Smith County, to Allen and Hilma Irene (Drotts) Detwiler.

Maxine was a graduate of Athol High School, Athol, KS, and Sterling College, Sterling, KS.&nbsp; She taught school for 22 years at Obee School, Hutchinson, and was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church, Hutchinson.&nbsp; Being a wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother were the titles that she treasured the most.

On August 30, 1946, Maxine married Eugene W. Powell, in Kansas City, MO.&nbsp; They shared over 65 years of marriage, prior to his death on December 12, 2011.

She is survived by her children, Kathy (Kelly) Sheffler of Hutchinson, Janice (Doug) Kyner of Arvada, CO, and Kenny (Sherri) Powell of Hutchinson; siblings, Dick Detwiler of Wamego, Loren Detwiler of Mesa, AZ, and Carol (Verne) Overmiller of Smith Center; grandchildren, Mark Kyner, Lynne Wasinger, Michelle Kyner, Kellis Bayless, Robyn Lutz, Desirae Pina, Kelly Roberts, and Grace Clinton; and great-grandchildren, Emma Bayless, Jon Lutz, Timothy Lutz, David Lutz, Mariah Pina, Karmen Pina, Evan Wasinger, and Nicholas Wasinger.

Maxine was preceded in death by her parents; sister, Darlene Detwiler; and brother, Dale Detwiler.

Irvin Ray Schmidt, 88, of Hutchinson, died April 18, 2020, at his home. He was born August 26, 1931, in Greensburg, to Louis and Lodie (Wadel) Schmidt.

Irvin attended Greensburg High School. He was a truck driver for Kraft Foods and retired from Vulcan Chemicals. Irvin attended Journey Mennonite Church, South Hutchinson.

On October 1, 1951, he married Norma M. Ricketts, in Wichita. They shared 60 years together before her passing on, January 8, 2012.

Irvin is survived by: daughters, Melinda (David) Nachtrab, Clearwater, and Debra (Chuck) Hoover, Broken Arrow, OK; grandchildren, Johnathan (Lanetta) Nachtrab, Catoosa, OK, Jennifer &nbsp;(Eugenio) Arreguin, New Braunfels, TX, Alicia (Orman) Seese, Broken Arrow, OK, Laura (Evan) Hill, Sanford, FL,&nbsp; and Brooke (Cody) Hays, Sapulpa, OK; and five great-grandchildren.

Aavon M. Powers, 97, died April 17, 2020, at Hester Care Center.&nbsp; She was born February 14, 1923, in Garden City, to Lester Layson and Bessie (Pace) Mendenhall.

Aavon graduated from Dodge City High School in 1940, and Dodge City Community College in 1942.&nbsp; She was a Claims Representative for the Hutchinson Social Security Administration.&nbsp; Aavon was a member of Soroptimist International of Hutchinson, State Fair Promenaders Square Dancers, and Grace Episcopal Church, Hutchinson. Aavon loved her family, her church, her many, many friends, flowers, square-dancing, reading, as well as many other activities.&nbsp; She always had a variety of eyeglass frames, one for every possible occasion.&nbsp;

On February 1, 1947, she married the love of her life, LaVern ‘Vern’ Powers in Dodge City.&nbsp; He died March 20, 2014, after sharing 67 years of marriage. His family considered her one of their own and loved her like a sister.

Aavon is survived by:&nbsp; brother, The Reverend Elborn Mendenhall (Burney) of Topeka; nieces, Leslie Friedel (Tim) of Shawnee Mission, Kathy Lentz (Sheldon) of Towson, Maryland; nephew, Mark Mendenhall (Sarah) of Sycamore, Illinois; and great-nieces and great-nephews, Schuyler, Friedel, Chandler Friedel, and Joyce Friedel, and Paul Lentz and Kate Lentz.

She was preceded in death by her parents and a sister, Imogene Powell.

Carolyne A. Seymore, 82, of Hutchinson, passed away on April 17, 2020 at Hospice House, Hutchinson.

She was born August 5, 1937, in Terre Haute, IN, the daughter of Walter and Margaret (Kuykendall) Heyen. In 1959, Carolyne married Sammy Seymore in Houston, TX. They later divorced.

Carolyne graduated high school in Terre Haute and went on to get her Bachelor’s Degree in nursing at John Hopkins University and worked for over 30 years at Hutchinson Hospital.

She was a very talented water-color painter. Carolyne had her art work displayed at the Kansas State Fair where she won ribbons. Her art work was displayed at various art galleries and has been displayed in public buildings throughout Kansas. 

Carolyne was preceded in death by her parents; a daughter, Susan Seymore and a sister, Betty Lawson.

She is survived by her ex-husband, Sammy Seymore, sons, Steve Seymore and Mark Seymore; brother-in-law, Bob Lawson, a grandson, Sean Seymore.

Friends may sign the book 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday, April 21, 2020 at Hutchinson Funeral Chapel. A private family service will be held Wednesday, April 22, 2020 at Hutchinson Funeral Chapel. Burial will take place at Memorial Park Cemetery. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Hutchinson Art Center.

Merna Lee Chance Snay, 99, died April 19, 2020. She was born in Kensington, Kansas on July 17, 1920 to parents William Jennings and Emma Amelia (Wachs) Chance. The family moved to Mount Hope, Kansas in 1935. Merna graduated from Mount Hope High School and she married Howard Snay in 1937. They were farmers in the Mount Hope and Haven area.

Merna was known for superb cooking especially fried chicken, and for winning many contests. She won trips to the Pillsbury bake-off several times. She loved her family and many friends. Merna was a member of the First Congregational Church in Haven and in her younger days, The Flying Needle Club of Mount Hope. She was a patriot and long-time member of the American Legion Auxiliary.
