James Torbert, 65, died April 13, 2020, at his home. He was born April 14, 1954, in Hutchinson, to Lonnie and Lovella (Gingerich) Torbert.

James graduated from Partridge High School in 1972.&nbsp; He retired from Rainbow Bakery.&nbsp; James was very independent and enjoyed collecting coins, watching old country shows, and shooting guns.&nbsp; His greatest enjoyment was spending time with his grandchildren.

James is survived by: children, Charona Owens (Josh, CW3 Tyler Torbert (Katie); grandchildren, Conner Owens, Cassie Owens, Andrew Torbert, and Patrick Torbert; and siblings, Bob Torbert, Debra Cartright, and Mike Cartright.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Brad Torbert.

Cremation has taken place, and per James’ wishes, there will be no service.&nbsp; Elliott Mortuary, Hutchinson, is in charge of arrangements.

Herbert ‘Herb’ Warren, 81, died April 10, 2020, at Hutchinson Regional Medical Center. He was born January 16, 1939, in Rice Lake, Wisconsin, to James and Eileen (McNitt) Warren.

Herb was a 1956 graduate of Pratt High School and had been a conductor for Union Pacific Railroad for 43 years.&nbsp;

His favorite hobbies and pastimes included grilling and smoking meat, baking chocolate chip cookies, and attending Texas Tenor concerts.

On March 9, 1969, Herb married Joyce Jeannine Jacobs in Kansas City, KS. His wife of 51 years of marriage, Joyce, survives. Also surviving are: children, Mike of Haysville, and Brenda Kirkendall and husband Geoff of Lawrence; stepsons, A.V. Plank of Salina, and Todd Plank of Hutchinson; siblings, Jeff Warren, David Warren, and Kristina Cavaness, all of Thompsonville, IL; nine grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.

Herb was preceded in death by: parents; son, Randy; brother, Jimmy; and Mike and Brenda’s mother, Betty Ann, on September 16, 2019.

Everett graduated from Chanute High School in 1943, and became a licensed engineer in 1951. He worked as a civil engineer for the Kansas Department of Transportation. Everett was a member of the Hutchinson Masonic Lodge and &nbsp;American Legion Lysle Rishel Post 68. He enjoyed traveling in his RV, and quail hunting with his Brittany spaniel, Dolly.

On October 25, 1974, Everett married Patricia Dell Donovan, in Garden City. They shared 45 years together.

He is survived by: wife, Patricia Olson, Hutchinson; daughters, Patricia (Frank) Geiger, Erie, Connie (Tom) Ankenman, Hutchinson, and Debbie (Larry) Schiffelbein, Garden City; four grandchildren; eight great grandchildren; four great-great grandchildren; brothers, Nels Olson, Rural Stark, Richard Olson, Lenexa, Jerry Olson, York; and sister, Neva Redburn, Chanute.

Everett was preceded in death by: his parents; brother, Leon Olson; and sister, Norma Hall.

Nadine was a bookkeeper and bowling instructor for 17 years at Riverside Lanes, South Hutchinson.&nbsp; She retired after nine years of working at Lawrence Vending, Hutchinson, in 1975. Nadine was an avid bowler for 55 years. She served as president of the Hutchinson Women’s Bowling Association, and was a lifetime member of The Women of the Moose.

On April 9, 1946, Nadine married James H. McCue, in Hutchinson.&nbsp; They shared over 72 years of marriage, prior to his death on January 28, 2019.

She is survived by:&nbsp; children, Karen Herdt of South Hutchinson, Terry (Lynda) McCue of Hutchinson, and Pamela (William) Wright of Springfield, TN; six grandchildren; thirteen great-grandchildren; two great-great-granddaughters; and numerous nephews and nieces.

Nadine was preceded in death by:&nbsp; her parents; husband, James H. McCue; brothers, William Everett Casey and Ralph Casey; granddaughter, Stephanie Joy McCue; and son-in-law, Gerald Herdt.

Donna M. Mattison, 66, of Hutchinson, passed away on April 12, 2020 at Hospice House, Hutchinson. She was born March 9, 1954, in Hutchinson, the daughter of Wesley and Edna (McKenna) Matthews.

On September 16, 1977 she married Lloyd Mattison in Hutchinson. Donna enjoyed spending time in her garden tending to her flowers.

Donna was preceded in death by her parents; husband Lloyd; brother, Seldon Matthews and two sisters, Barbara Dilts and Wanda Adcock.

Robert Duane Barnett, 76, died at home, April 12, 2020.&nbsp; He was born October 12, 1943, at the family home, near Lebo, Kansas, to Lewis Ernest and Wilma Jones Barnett.

He married Delonna Kaufman Peters on March 20, 1976.

Bob graduated from Lebo High School and later graduated from Emporia State University with a Bachelor’s degree in Education.

He taught math and science at Moundridge High School from 1965 to 1975.&nbsp; He also was on the coaching staff at Moundridge High School.&nbsp; He then bought a semi and trucked for S&amp;S Trucking until his daughter was born and he sold the truck so he could see her grow up.&nbsp; Then he worked at Moridge Manufacturing and eventually worked for the United States Postal Service at Moundridge and Hesston.&nbsp; He retired in 2005 and began working for Kropf Lumber in Hesston part-time, until health forced him to resign.

He enjoyed going to the Senior Center for lunch.&nbsp; He kept up on the sports world, mainly college sports, especially football and the NFL. Go Chiefs!

Bob is survived by his wife, Delonna of 44 years; daughter, Nicole Moddelmog, Wichita; step-son, Michael (Christine) Peters, Nixa, MO; &nbsp;four grandchildren, Tracie (Nathan) Woods, Katie (Justin) Fravel, Micheal Peters, and Spencer (Dalton) Hughes; four great-grandchildren and one on the way; sister, Carolyn (Gary) Crouch, Lebo; two nieces and one nephew, and five great nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and brother, Howell Barnett.

Jimmy Ray Crow, 81, passed away Wednesday, April 8, 2020 at his home in Hutchinson, KS. He was born on July 31, 1938 in Shongaloo, LA to Jessie Crow and Mary (Grisbly) Lister.

On September 17, 1961, Jimmy married Francis Maple in Shreveport, LA.&nbsp; They have celebrated 58 years of marriage. Jimmy worked for over 30 years at Morton Salt as a forklift operator. He was a member of Macedonia Missionary Baptist Church, where he sang in the Male Chorus and in the combined Choir. He loved attending church. Jimmy had many hobbies. He enjoyed singing, playing horseshoes, bowling and baseball. 

Preceding him in death were his parents; brothers, Joe Crow and Kenny Crowe; sisters, Beatrice Phillips and Listerine Steward; brother in laws, Gene Jones Sr. and Roger Maple Sr.; and sister in law, Alice Maple. 

Survivors include wife, Francis; daughters, Connie Neal, Leola Crow and Kaytreuna Crow; brother, Arthur Crowe; sisters, Barbara Crowe and Kathy (Lawrence) Fuller; grandchildren, Kija (Denzell) Cunningham, Jamila Neal, Johan Crow; A’Kryrah Mays and Sophia Crow; great grandchildren, Bryant, Aubrey, Xander, Jackson and Keyon; a grandniece, Camiiyha Battle; brother and sister in laws, Willie and Betty Ashley, Clarence and Alice Maple and Nancy Jones.

After a brief illness, Ruth Margaret Smith passed away in the early hours of Good Friday, April 10, 2020. A silent soldier for her Savior, it seems appropriate Ruth earned her Heavenly reward on a day we commemorate the Passion and death of her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

Ruth’s time on Earth was good and wholesome. It included the highlight of raising three adoring children to be strong and independent. She herself was the youngest of four children born to John and Sophie Goranson in St. Louis Park, Minnesota. Ruth was a committed member of the Lutheran community. She sang in church choirs, and it was in that music that she met her husband, Jim. Now, when the darkness fell on her final days, the Lord lovingly took her very breath that sang His praise.

Ruth leaves behind son, Brian Smith (Kim, and daughters, Heather Walton (Scott) and Brenda Webb (Bob, along with five grandchildren; Ian Smith, Kylyn Stark, Maci Walton, Tawne Walton and Abbie Walton and three great-grandchildren; Boston Smith, Jagger Smith and Jemma Stark.&nbsp; She was preceded in death by her parents and siblings Elizabeth Decker, Ann Armstrong, Art Goranson &amp; Helen Martin.

Ruth lived most of her adult life in Topeka, Kansas working as an office clerk for the USDA-Risk Management. The last two years she resided in Moundridge, Kansas within the Pine Village Retirement Community.

She will be interred aside the Immanuel Lutheran Church (Canton, Ks). There will be a small private funeral service at this time as dictated by the current COVID-19 restrictions, but a ceremony to celebrate Ruth’s life will be scheduled at a date to be determined. Donations in Ruth’s name may be made to Immanuel Lutheran Church (Canton, Ks) or to Calvary Lutheran Church (Topeka, Ks) in care of Moundridge Funeral Home, PO Box 410, Moundridge, Kansas 67107.

A favorite scripture of Ruth was John 14:3, “And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and receive you unto Myself; that where I am, there you may be also.”

A silent soldier for her Savior, it seems appropriate Ruth earned her Heavenly reward on a day we commemorate the Passion and death of her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.Ruth’s time on Earth was good and wholesome. It included the highlight of raising three adoring children to be strong and independent. She herself was the youngest of four children born to John and Sophie Goranson in St. Louis Park, Minnesota. Ruth was a committed member of the Lutheran community. She sang in church choirs, and it was in that music that she met her husband, Jim. Now, when the darkness fell on her final days, the Lord lovingly took her very breath that sang His praise.Ruth leaves behind son, Brian Smith (Kim, and daughters, Heather Walton (Scott) and Brenda Webb (Bob, along with five grandchildren; Ian Smith, Kylyn Stark, Maci Walton, Tawne Walton and Abbie Walton and three great-grandchildren; Boston Smith, Jagger Smith and Jemma Stark.&nbsp; She was preceded in death by her parents and siblings Elizabeth Decker, Ann Armstrong, Art Goranson &amp; Helen Martin.Ruth lived most of her adult life in Topeka, Kansas working as an office clerk for the USDA-Risk Management. The last two years she resided in Moundridge, Kansas within the Pine Village Retirement Community.She will be interred aside the Immanuel Lutheran Church (Canton, Ks). There will be a small private funeral service at this time as dictated by the current COVID-19 restrictions, but a ceremony to celebrate Ruth’s life will be scheduled at a date to be determined. David Stanley Wagler, 77, died April 8, 2020, at his home.&nbsp; He was born January 25, 1943, in Hutchinson, to Willie and Alma (Nisly) Wagler.

David was a 1969 graduate of Bethel College, Newton, and attended graduate school at Wheaton College, Wheaton, IL.&nbsp; He was an administrator for the Slavic Gospel Association from 1973 to 1992.&nbsp; David also taught high school mathematics, science, and English, and was a financial advisor for Morgan Stanley and Wagler Investment Solutions.&nbsp;

He was a member and elder of the Berean Baptist Church, Hutchinson.

On January 1, 1975, he married Patricia ‘Trish’ Anne Hershberger in Canton, OH.&nbsp; They shared over 45 years of marriage.

David is survived by:&nbsp; his wife, Trish Wagler of Yoder; children, Rochelle Sylvester of Hutchinson, Vanya (Maeleena) Wagler of Wichita Falls, TX, Bethany (Paul) Page of Hutchinson, Maria Wagler of Champaign, IL, Esther (Nick) Egli of Yoder, Sarah (Jordan) Julian of Greeley, CO, and Josiah (Kylee) Wagler of Sterling; 14 grandchildren; and sisters, Evelyn Sauer, Dolores Wagler, and Gloria Miller.

Bonita C. Fee, 87, died April 6, 2020, at Hester Care Center. &nbsp;‘Bonnie’ was born October 21, 1932, in Lee’s Summit, MO, to Clarence ‘Bill’ and Mildred (Copeland) Roots.&nbsp;

Bonnie graduated from Hutchinson High School in 1950, Hutchinson Community College in 1952, and attended the University of Kansas. She served as a Cub Scout Den Mother; on the PTA at Roosevelt Grade School, and, as a YouthFriends mentor at Avenue A Grade School. Bonnie also volunteered by being on the board committees of: Girl Scouts Wheatbelt Council; Reno County Red Cross; Wesley Towers, Inc. (both serving 2 terms).&nbsp; She was a member of PEO Chapter CM, serving as president for six years. In addition, Bonnie was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church, Hutchinson, where she served as a Sunday school teacher and Bible School Leader and Director. Bonnie Fee practiced daily actions of encouragement, compassion, and empathy towards others, and her purposeful efforts to ease the burdens carried by the people around her, was an inspiration.

On August 29, 1953, Bonita Clara Roots married Franklin Taylor Fee at Trinity United Methodist Church, Hutchinson.&nbsp; They shared 66 years of marriage before his death on December 5, 2019.

Bonnie is survived by: son, Thomas Fee; grandsons, Andrew Fee and Taylor Fee; great-grandchildren, Amelia and Axton Fee; brother, Roger Roots and wife Mary; sister-in-law, Martha Fee; nephews, Sam and Matt Roots, Jim, Allen, Bob, and Dan Fee; nieces, Katie Roots and Stacy Shaw; and numerous great-nieces and great-nephews.

She was a 1965 graduate of Ottawa High School and received a journalism degree from the University of Kansas in 1969. Roxanne worked in advertising for seven years in California, moving back to Kansas in 1976.

On April 19, 1980, Roxanne married Ron Johnson in Plevna. Together they raised son Ryan on the family farm at Abbyville. She worked in education for Fairfield USD 310. She volunteered for many organizations, including 4-H, Pioneer club, Joy Bible club, and Gideons International.Roxanne lived her faith with a passion for serving others, especially in her church, school, and community. Her kind words, infectious laugh, and compassionate spirit inspired kids and adults, alike.

Ron, her husband of 40 years survives. Also surviving are son, Ryan and wife Tia; grandchildren, Mac, Calla, and Carmen, all of Omaha, NE; brother, Rod Lennard and wife Sandra of Bella Vista, AR, and several nieces and nephews.

Marvin D. “Spank” Lang, 86, Hays, died Tuesday, April 7, 2020 at his home.

He was born August 25, 1933 in Hoisington, the son of Robert and Anna (Reif) Lang. On December 27, 1958 he was united in marriage to Sue Tholen in Vincent, and they celebrated 61 years of marriage. He was a graduate of Hoisington High School, served in the United States Army, and was an oilfield roustabout and pumper. His memberships included St. Joseph Catholic Church and Commander of Hays American Legion Post #173. He coached his sons’ baseball teams, represented the American Legion at state baseball games, loved sports, and was a great dad and grandpa who loved his family.

Krista Leigh Baehler, of Omaha, Nebraska, went to be with her Lord and Savior April 4, 2020, at 12:42 a.m. Krista was 32 years old, born July 4, 1987, in Newton, Kansas. She passed after complications due to Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia (ALL).

Krista graduated from Central Christian High School in 2007 and received her Associate of Arts Degree from Hutchinson Community College in 2009. In 2011, Krista graduated from Kansas State University with a Bachelor of Science in Dietetics. It was with great pride she earned her Registered Dietitian License, after completing the 1,200 internship hours and passing the exam.

Krista served Omaha as the Community Cooking and Nutrition Education Specialist for a coalition of nonprofits, private corporations and public colleges titled “Soil to Sustenance”. She built cooking and nutrition curriculum, and outcome measurements and recipes for people experiencing poverty and worked to bring a major grant award to sustain the program for many years. After being hospitalized, Krista continued to develop measurement criteria and reached out to community nutrition programs in Texas and California to build a model for Omaha to serve those in need.

Krista was a humble and loving role model for countless children.&nbsp; She loved not only in words but also by many acts of kindness and service.&nbsp; Throughout her life Krista combined her love of horses with her love of Jesus in ministry to others. As an adult, Krista taught at horsemanship camps at her mother’s Cedar Ridge Ranch.&nbsp; She loved teaching the excited children how to ride and care for horses.

Krista had an extraordinary love of horses, especially her barrel horse, Newt, that she shared with her sister, Kendra.&nbsp; Krista had a bond with Newt, which enabled each to help the other heal from many serious health issues. Her father’s loving care of Newt helped Krista and Kendra have success in the arena.

Krista’s accomplishments included competing at the National High School Rodeo Finals in Gillette, Wyoming, as one of the top four-barrel racers in Kansas.&nbsp; She loved to compete and won many buckles and other awards.

 </figure>Krista Leigh Baehler, of Omaha, Nebraska, went to be with her Lord and Savior April 4, 2020, at 12:42 a.m. Krista was 32 years old, born July 4, 1987, in Newton, Kansas. She passed after complications due to Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia (ALL).Krista graduated from Central Christian High School in 2007 and received her Associate of Arts Degree from Hutchinson Community College in 2009. In 2011, Krista graduated from Kansas State University with a Bachelor of Science in Dietetics. It was with great pride she earned her Registered Dietitian License, after completing the 1,200 internship hours and passing the exam.Krista served Omaha as the Community Cooking and Nutrition Education Specialist for a coalition of nonprofits, private corporations and public colleges titled “Soil to Sustenance”. She built cooking and nutrition curriculum, and outcome measurements and recipes for people experiencing poverty and worked to bring a major grant award to sustain the program for many years. After being hospitalized, Krista continued to develop measurement criteria and reached out to community nutrition programs in Texas and California to build a model for Omaha to serve those in need.Krista was a humble and loving role model for countless children.&nbsp; She loved not only in words but also by many acts of kindness and service.&nbsp; Throughout her life Krista combined her love of horses with her love of Jesus in ministry to others. As an adult, Krista taught at horsemanship camps at her mother’s Cedar Ridge Ranch.&nbsp; She loved teaching the excited children how to ride and care for horses.Krista had an extraordinary love of horses, especially her barrel horse, Newt, that she shared with her sister, Kendra.&nbsp; Krista had a bond with Newt, which enabled each to help the other heal from many serious health issues. Bruce Austin Moots, 86, of Hutchinson, KS., passed away on April 3, 2020 at his home with his wife Barbara and his beloved dog Herbie by his side. He was born April 28, 1933, in Hutchinson, KS., the son of Clifford D and Alma E. (Hedger) Moots.

Bruce attended Hutchinson High School. On June 10, 1993 he married Barbara Shanks in Hutchinson, KS. On April 24, 1953 Bruce joined the U.S. Army and was honorably discharged on April 22, 1955. Bruce was an avid pool player, a master carpenter and a stain glass artist.

Bruce was preceded in death by his parents; brothers Gene Moots and William “Bill” Moots and a sister Donna Moots.

He is survived by his loving wife, Barbara; sons, Mike Moots and Mark Moots; daughters, Becky Ensz and Leslie Moots; step-daughters, Lisa Hagley and Tammie Kaufman; many grandchildren, his beloved dog Herbie and four pool player buddies Don, Bob, Wade and Max.

Richard attended Pratt High School. On July 3, 1984 he married Lynn Smith in Pratt, KS. Richard was a man of many trades. He was best known for working as an engineer for the railroad. He also enjoyed metal work and pin striping street rods.

Richard was preceded in death by his parents.

He is survived by his loving wife, Lynn; daughters, Kimberly Monnier and step-children, Lori (Cory) Hughes and Krista Wilson; a brother, Robert F. Diane was a 1979 graduate of Ensign High School.&nbsp; She was employed at Central Kansas Credit Union, Hutchinson, as a Vice-President of Real Estate, for almost 30 years.&nbsp; During this time, Diane attended training seminars in Texas to further her education.&nbsp; Diane’s customers were important to her and she strived to give them the best service possible.

Linda graduated from Clearwater High School in 1965 and Wichita Business College in 1966.&nbsp; During high school, she was president of the Pep Club and involved in numerous musical organizations, including band, Glee Club, and Mixed Chorus.&nbsp; Linda was also past-president of Gamma Eta Chapter of Alpha Iota Sorority.&nbsp; She retired from Morton Salt as a payroll clerk and was a member of Westside Baptist Church.&nbsp; Linda was a devoted grandma, and adored all her grandchildren.&nbsp; When she became ill, they gave her the inspiration to continue living.&nbsp;

Linda met the love of her life, Lyle, when they both worked at Morton Salt.&nbsp; They were married October 14, 1994, and enjoyed 25 years of marriage.&nbsp; Lyle was Linda’s soul mate, rock, caregiver, and calming salvation.&nbsp;

Linda is survived by: her&nbsp; husband and best friend, &nbsp;Lyle Housh; children, Curtis Mitchell (Pam, Lynette Wilkening (John, all of Hutchinson, Shannon Housh of Auburn, GA, and Tammy Dreiling (Chris) of Commerce City, CO; grandchildren, Gregory Gonzales (Sami, Madison Mitchell, Kalei Dreiling, Tiana Smith, Tenley Wilkening, Tessa Wilkening, and Adryan Mitchell; great-grandchildren, Ariana, Renae, and Ella Rae Gonzales; her mother, June Sparr; sister, Connie Craig (Larry, all of Clearwater; and Curtis and Lynette’s father, Bob Mitchell.

Rickey Duane Retterer, 74, of Hutchinson, died April 5, 2020, at Hutchinson Regional Medical Center. He was born July 25, 1945, in Bellefontaine, Ohio, to Woodrow and Elizabeth (Scullin) Retterer.

Rickey graduated from Ridgemont High School, Ridgeway, Ohio, in 1965. He retired from Hutchinson Vending, in 2002. Rickey served in the U.S. Army from 1965 to 1972. He was a life member of VFW Post 1080, in Bellefontaine, Ohio. Rickey was a member of Park Place Christian Church, in Hutchinson.

On July 10, 1981, he married Renee Redinger, in Corpus Christi, Texas. They shared nearly 39 years of marriage.

Rickey is survived by: wife, Renee Retterer, Hutchinson; siblings, Ronnie Retterer, Kenton, OH, Shirley Jones, Corpus Christi, TX, Sharon Appleman, Newark, OH, Toni Pfister (Jerry, Kenton, OH, and Peg Herron, Kenton, OH; sister-in-law, LoaAnn Gibson, Hutchinson; several nieces and nephews; and his loving cats, Oliver, Bernie, and Jackee.

Cecil was a 1972 graduate of Hutchinson High School.&nbsp; He served in the United States Army from 1972 to 1975.&nbsp; Cecil then received a degree from Wichita State University as a Registered Respiratory Therapist.&nbsp; He was employed as a respiratory therapist at Great Bend Regional Hospital and Hutchinson Regional Medical Center.

On May 16, 1978, Cecil married Betty House, in Miami, OK.&nbsp; They shared over 41 years of marriage.

Mary graduated from Hutchinson High School in 1943.&nbsp; She retired from the accounting department at the Dillon Corporate Office after 10 years of service.&nbsp; Mary was an avid golfer at Carey Park Golf Course.

In 1964, she married Jimmie Lee Meyer in Miami, OK.&nbsp; He died August 24, 2019.&nbsp;

Mary is survived by:&nbsp; children, Michael Kightlinger of South Hutchinson, Sally Cavins of Texas, Mona Manley (Don) of Junction City, and Scott Meyer of Burrton; six grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by:&nbsp; her parents; a sister, Ola Kunzie; brothers, Robert Elliott Fletcher and Earl Oliver Fletcher; daughter-in-law, Sandra Kightlinger; and Michael, Sally and Mona’s dad, Norman Kightlinger.

Emma Mae Yoder, 88, of Hutchinson, passed away peacefully at her home on April 4, 2020.&nbsp; She was born on December 16, 1931, in Hutchinson, to Harry and Barbara (Helmuth) Yoder.

On September 28, 1958, Emma married Eli J. Yoder, in Hutchinson.&nbsp; They shared over 61 years of marriage.

She faithfully served the Lord and her family with her servant heart.&nbsp; Emma also spent many hours piecing quilts and quilting.

She is survived by: her husband, Eli J. Yoder of Hutchinson; children, Richard (Susan) Yoder of Hutchinson, Joyce (Jake) King of Arlington, and Emily (Freeman) Miller of Arrington, VA; 20 grandchildren; 44 great-grandchildren; siblings, Katie I. Hetzler, Melvin H. (Orpha) Yoder, and Harry E. (Treva) Yoder, all of Hutchinson; and sisters-in-law, Fannie (Miller) Yoder of Harrisonburg, VA, and Katie (Miller) Yoder of Hutchinson.

Emma was preceded in death by her parents; and brothers, Albert and Lloyd Yoder.

Private graveside service will be held Monday, April 6, 2020, at West Center Amish Cemetery, Partridge.

Thomas Eugene Huffman, 71, passed away Friday, April 3, 2020, in Hutchinson. &nbsp;The son of Robert and Elizabeth (Kohl) Huffman, he was born July 1, 1948, in Scott City, almost exactly a year after his brother, James.

Thomas spent his young childhood in Grigston, Kansas, before the family moved to Nickerson, in 1958.

He graduated from Nickerson High School in 1966 and Hutchinson Community College in 1968.&nbsp; Thomas then went to work as a draftsman at Carey Salt Company, in Hutchinson. &nbsp;&nbsp;In 1973, he began working at Cessna, and was employed in 1988 at Boeing, in Wichita. Thomas worked on Air Force One and was excited to be a passenger onboard a test flight that flew roundtrip from Wichita to Seattle. He retired in 2001.

Thomas volunteered with the Boy Scouts and Big Brothers, taking the youngsters on canoeing trips and camping excursions, teaching them how to set up tents, gather wood, and cook on a campfire and portable cook top. The family benefited from his practice, and enjoyed many meals with cherry cobbler.

In 1974, Thomas bought a Jeep, and in October of 1978, became a member of the Salt City 4-Wheelers. &nbsp;He also enjoyed riding motorcycles and photography. For several years, Thomas took trips to Waynoka, Oklahoma, to go 4-wheeling, 3-wheeling, and motorcycle riding in Little Sahara State Park, with younger brother, Joe, in tow. &nbsp;An avid mechanic, he always had a car or pickup that was in a state of some level of rebuild or repair.

Thomas was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Frank, who passed away last year.

He never married. Thomas is survived by: brothers, James (Kathy) Huffman, Joe (Leslie) Huffman, all of Hutchinson; sisters, Mary Blachford of Alden, Jean (Mike) Ober of Cottonwood, AZ, Delores Huffman of Skiatook, OK, Vera (John) Frye of Lyons, and Barb (Lou) Winterfield of Fountain Hills, AZ; and many nieces and nephews.
