
Eldon Estes passed away unexpectedly on August 31, 2020, at Wesley Medical Center, Wichita. He was born January 31, 1947, in Arkansas City, to John and Alberta (Crist) Estes.
Eldon graduated from Arkansas City High School. He worked for 30 years at Midwest Superstore, retiring as their general manager in 2014. Currently, he was the District Manager for the Hutchinson News.
Eldon loved his job at Midwest Superstore as he had the opportunity to work and interact with many individuals. No matter what walks of life they came from, he treated everyone equal, and they were all his friends. Eldon’s passion was helping those less fortunate. He will be remembered for his kindness, compassion, honesty, integrity, and was respected by all who knew him.
In his spare time, he enjoyed playing golf, traveling with his wife, Kim, and playing or watching sports of any kind. Eldon was ‘one of a kind’, and will be greatly missed by family, friends, customers, and acquaintances.
In July 2003, Eldon married Kimberly ‘Kim’ Nash. They enjoyed 17 years together.
Eldon is survived by wife, Kim of Hutchinson: daughter, Kathi Grossenbacher (Jeff), Bern, KS; son, Chad Estes (Hayley), Tulsa, OK; stepdaughter, Lacie Janzen (Matt), Hutchinson; stepson, Travis Nash (Aimee), Austin, TX; adopted son, Joe Estes (Jasmine), Adair, OK; adopted daughter, Gina Estes, Kansas City, KS; sister, Velta Gilmore (Bob), Arkansas City; grandchildren, Andrew, Trevor (Angela), Kristin, Natalie (Darryon), Megan (Colby), Presleigh, Dalton, Jacqueline, Crew, Calleigh, Hattie, Joseph Jr., Jenner, Seattle, Ella, and Daisy; great-grandchildren, Willa and Cameron; and numerous nieces, nephews, friends and acquaintances.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a stillborn brother; brothers, Junior, Roger, and Roy; half-brothers, Clark, Jerry; six half-sisters; and a grandson, Hudson.
Celebration of Life will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, September 4, 2020, at Hutchinson Sports Arena, 700 E. 11th Avenue, Hutchinson, with Pastor Chris Powell officiating. Attendees must enter on the west side and masks are required. The family will greet friends following the service outside on the west side of the Sports Arena. Friends may sign the memorial book from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Thursday at Elliott Mortuary.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to the Eldon Estes Memorial Fund, in care of Elliott Mortuary, 1219 N. Main, Hutchinson, KS 67501.
Eldon will be forever remembered as having a giving heart and a desire to make sure EVERYONE succeeded.
