Billie Jane (Ball) Blumenshine, 95, died October 10, 2020, in Hutchinson. She was born September 22, 1925, in Pratt, to Earl James and Faith Alvena (Freeman) Ball.&nbsp;

Billie attended Pratt schools, graduating in 1943. She worked at the Pratt Air Base in a Civil Service position throughout World War II. After resigning, Billie entered Wichita-St. Joseph School of Nursing, graduating in 1949.&nbsp;

She married Gordon C. Blumenshine, of Clearwater, on May 24, 1949. They lived briefly in Clearwater, and then made their home in Wichita. In 1963, Billie and Gordon moved to a farm near Mulvane. They lived in Belle Plaine from 1976, until retiring to Hutchinson in 1985.&nbsp;

Billie had a long, active career in nursing, from 1950 until she retired in 1985. She worked at St. Joseph Medical Center, Wichita MediCenter, Boeing Aircraft, and in several physician’s practices in Wichita and Belle Plaine.&nbsp;

Billie was passionate about providing professional, compassionate health care, and had wonderful, warm relationships with those for whom she cared. She was kind to all she met and had an unfailing positive attitude. Billie was artistic, loved music and was always busy with a project of some kind. Throughout the years, Billie and her family enthusiastically participated in the Sedgwick County 4-H program, and enjoyed boating and water skiing together and with extended family and friends.

Billie is survived by her daughters and sons-in-law, Christine Marie (Jerry) Gee of Coeur d’Alene, Idaho and Billie Patrice ‘Trice’ (Roger) Mott of Hutchinson; grandchildren, Carolyn (Joshua) Jaeger, Erin (Bob) Van Allen, Stephanie Mott, Cassie Mott (Jason Wyer) and Garret Mott; seven great-grandchildren; and many extended family members and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Earl and Faith Ball; husband, Gordon; brothers, Dwight and Kenneth Ball; sisters, Mildred Wedmark and Virginia Beech; and one grandson, Nathan Gee.

Gilbert ‘Gil’ L. Ash, 81, died October 13, 2020, at Hospice House, Hutchinson.&nbsp; He was born October 6, 1939, in McPherson, to Clifford H. and Judith Viola (Tector) Ash.

Gil graduated from Enterprise Academy, Enterprise, KS, Hutchinson Community College, and took classes at Wichita State University. He served in the United States Air Force from 1960 to 1968. Gil retired after 30 years of service as a customer service representative for IBM. He was a member of Hutchinson-Reno Masonic Lodge #124 A.F. &amp; A.M. and Trinity United Methodist Church, Hutchinson. Gil loved the outdoors and enjoyed camping, hiking, and traveling (especially to Colorado with his family). He was a loving, devoted grandpa. Gil’s eight grandchildren had great admiration for their grandfather.

On Thanksgiving Day, November 23, 1961, he married his high school sweetheart, Karen Dove, in Newton. They shared almost 59 years of marriage.

Gil is survived by wife, Karen of Hutchinson; children, Gregory Ash (Amy) of Lawrence, Scott Ash (Anne Richtarik) of Lexington, MA, and Susan O’Sullivan (Tim) of Hutchinson; grandchildren, Shea O’Sullivan, Audrey O’Sullivan, Isabel Ash, Sadie Ash, Kellen O‘Sullivan, Amelia Ash, Lottie Ash, and Thomas Ash; brother-in-law, Kent Dove (Joquita) of Newton; and beloved cat, Sal.

Betty Fern (Woodall) Howard died October 13, 2020, at Oakley, KS at age 
99. Her husband Frank Wilson Howard Jr. preceded her in death on Nov. 
4, 2010. They married in Colby, KS on September 20, 1942. 
Betty and her husband lived on a wheat and cattle farm seven miles north
 of Oakley, where they raised five children. Betty served as Logan 
County Hospital director of nursing for 30 years. She was an active 
member of the United Methodist Church, enjoyed the Homemakers, Sunshine 
Club, Red Hat Ladies and Logan County Hospital retired personnel 
lunches. She volunteered at the Second Time Around Shop and for church 
events and activities. 
A calm, friendly, kind and loving wife, mother, friend, grandmother, and
 great-grandmother, Betty was cherished by many. She had a deep-seated 
faith, tremendous energy and a steel backbone that helped her cope with 
difficult challenges including a son’s death, caring for her 
parents-in-law for years as they aged and then her husband during his 
declining years. She also gave a helping hand to the farm operations. 
Born on September 14, 1921, in Bent County, Colorado, to Ruth Mae Beach 
and Ammy W. Woodall, Betty grew up in Hutchinson and Colby, KS. She 
graduated from Colby High School and then from Grace Hospital School of 
Nursing, in Hutchinson, where she was first place in her class 
academically. However, the graduation honor was awarded by 
administrators to the second highest student, as they knew Betty planned
 to marry after her graduation. They determined the honor should go to 
someone who planned to start working as a nurse. When questioned about 
the incident Betty in her typical gracious way said, “She was a very 
deserving student too.” The nursing school classmates kept in close 
contact throughout their lives. 
Betty’s father also opposed her marriage. He feared Frank, who had been 
drafted into the army, would be sent to Europe during WWII and never 
return. Betty, who had faith he would return, was able to join Frank 
when he was stationed in California and Texas and was expecting their 
first child when his orders for Europe came. After a number of 
assignments, and landing on D-Day plus 13, Frank arrived back home when 
their son was almost two years old. 
Married for 68 years, Betty and Frank raised five children, Frank 
(Normi), Peoria, IL; Carolyn (Robert Rice), Carmel, CA; Linda (Tom 
West), Durango, CO; Elaine (Alan Adams) Salida, CO. David, of Oakley, 
predeceased his parents in 2004, as did two siblings, James Woodall, of 
Colby, and Zella Mae Crane, of Kerman, CA. Betty is survived by a 
sister, Donna (Bob Purdum), of Simi Valley, CA, and two nephews, Jim and
 Chris Woodall, who reside at the Howard farm. Their presence enabled 
Frank and Betty to continue living on the farm though their upper 80s. 
Betty enjoyed fishing trips to Kansas lakes with her husband and many 
trips throughout the United States including Hawaii and Alaska and 
foreign travel to Australia, New Zealand, Switzerland, Austria, Italy 
and India. She traveled to India at age 91 for a granddaughter’s wedding
 and a three-week tour of the country. The couple had snowbird winters 
in Texas for several years in their fifth-wheeler. 
Her grandchildren are Michael, Scott, Pam, Jim, Diane, Chuck, Mariah, 
Amy and Mark. Betty has 16-great-grandchildren, a number of beloved 
nieces and nephews and several step grandsons and granddaughters. 
Betty died following a COVID illness. Her family appreciates the care 
given her by the staff of the Logan County Senior Living Center where 
she resided the past four years.

Laura M. Stout, 87, died on October 13, 2020 at Sunshine Meadows Retirement Community in Buhler, KS. She was born September 2, 1933, in Tribune, KS, the daughter of Fred O. and Addie (Waldon) Daines.

On October 8, 1949, Laura married Gerald A. Stout in Hutchinson, KS. He preceded her in death on October 3, 2013. Laura worked for Southern Extrusion as a wrapper for 10 years, she worked at Farmland Industries for 5 years and worked as a sales clerk for Walmart retiring after 15 years. Laura’s family and grandchildren was the most important thing to her. She enjoyed cooking and had a love for the Lord. She was a Sunday school teacher and worked in the church’s nursery. She was a member of Westside Baptist Church.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Gerald; brothers, Fred, Leon, John, Jackie and Robert Daines; sisters, Mary England, Jean Renken, Shirley Wilson, Bonnie Davis, Nancy Satterwhite, Linda Lancaster, Isabelle Cheatum and Donna Daines; and granddaughter Andrea Struthers.

Laura is survived by her children, David (Betty) Stout of Republic, MO., Pamala (William) Hulse of South Hutchinson, KS., Brenda (Wes) Chastain of South Hutchinson, KS., Diana (Ron) Krieg of Hutchinson and David Struthers of Lynchfield Park, AZ.; grandchildren, Carrie Stout, Angie Hernbloom, Jodi (Jay) Mitzner, Jason (Michelle) Chastain, Staci (Matt) Birney, Amy (Keith) Frederick, Sherri (Bob) Jones, Tina Guern, Jack Elam and Jason (Shannon) Elam, and 13 great grandchildren.

Terry L. Starks, 59, died on October 10, 2020 at Hospice House in Hutchinson, KS. He was born July 10, 1961 in Hutchinson, the son of Wesley and Dorothy (Black) Starks.

On June 10, 2000, Terry married Connie Sue Parks in Great Bend, KS. She died on December 22, 2012. Terry was a certified welder and worked on stainless steel for hospitals and helped build the 7th and 8 th grade buildings in Hutchinson. Terry loved to fish, ride motorcycles, bow hunting, 4-wheeling and he loved the Kansas City CHIEFS. He enjoyed raising turkeys and growing peppers in his garden.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Connie; his father, Wesley; a sister, Robin Starks and a great granddaughter, Emryss Rose Starks.

Terry is survived by his mother and step-father Dorothy and Bob Wilhite; daughters, Jennifer (Julian) Starks of Independence, MO. and Victoria (Justin) Reta of Hutchinson, KS.; brother, Billy Joe (Viola) Starks of Hutchinson, KS., half-brother, Kelly (Melissa) Starks of Austin, TX.; a step-brothers, Chris (Kathy) Wilhite of Park City, KS. and Donnie (Suzy) Martin of Burrton, Ks.; step-sister, Tonya (Derrick) Wilhite of Haven, KS. and grandchildren, Doshja Starks and Leon Guereca.

John ‘Johnnie’ Martin Kaiser, Jr., 74, died October 10, 2020, at his home.&nbsp; He was born July 23, 1946, in Hutchinson, to John Martin and Bertha Ann (Friesen) Kaiser.

Johnnie graduated from Buhler High School, in 1964.&nbsp; He loved life as a farmer and stockman. Johnnie enjoyed visiting with anyone and everyone, loved collecting guns, and working in his Bobcat to clear pastures. Johnnie was incredibly close and involved with all of his grandchildren. He was a member of Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church, South Hutchinson.

On January 15, 1966, he married Nancy Louise Foster, in Hutchinson.&nbsp; They shared almost 55 years of marriage.&nbsp;

Johnnie is survived by wife, Nancy of Windom; children, Angela Baker (Michael) of Wichita, Todd Kaiser (Kristin) of Windom, Amanda Ratzlaff (Gregg) of Buhler, and Mary Kaiser of Lawrence; sister, Donna Patrick (Michael) of Wichita; and six grandchildren

He was preceded in death by his parents and a son, Jarrin Michael Kaiser.

Alice M. Viegra, 82, of Hutchinson, died October 9, 2020, at Larksfield Place, Wichita. She was born April 11, 1938, in Silver City, NM, to Baldomero and Adela (Monje) Murillo.

In addition to being a homemaker, Alice worked at Wheatland Printing and ACS. She was an active member of Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church, South Hutchinson, where she served as chairman on the Altar Society and helped with funeral dinners, fair preparation and fiesta preparation, and participated in weekly adoration. But most of all, Alice loved being a grandmother and great-grandmother and was affectionately known as ‘Grandma Honey’.

On July 28, 1956, she married Francisco ‘Frank’ Viegra in Hutchinson. He survives.

Also surviving are: children, Gilbert Viegra, Hope Mills, NC, Francisco ‘Frank’ Vieyra and fiancée Kathy Simon Fruh, Placentia, CA, Diana Dauber (Dave), Hutchinson; grandchildren, Manuel (Jenalee) Garcia, Robert Magana-Garcia, J.R. Garcia, Adrianna Magana-Garcia (Brian Matthews), Vicente Vieyra (Baylee), Ethan Vieyra, Andre Vieyra (Amber), Cassandra Harness (Mike), Marco Sandoval (Tamar); great-grandchildren, Syler, Chasley, Elena, Ciela, Alex, Chloe, Parsenn; sister-in-law, Teresa Murillo, Hutchinson; and many other extended family members.

Alice was preceded in death by her parents; daughter, Susan Viegra; and brother, Ruben Murillo.

Randy Ford, 36, died October 7, 2020, at his home. He was born September 12, 1984, in Hutchinson, to Russell James and Betina Mae (Southards) Ford.

Randy was a 2003 graduate of Valley Center High School, and attended Butler Community College. He was employed as a warehouse technician for Liquid Dynamics since 2007.

Randy is survived by his parents, Rusty and Tina Ford of Valley Center; sister, Meghan (Ian) Graham of Wichita; niece, Ava Graham; and grandmother, Kay Southards of South Hutchinson.

He was preceded in death by grandparents, Lloyd and Betty Ford; grandmother, Grace Warren; &nbsp;and grandfather, Ron Southards.

The casket will remain closed. Funeral service will be 10 a.m. Wednesday, October 14, 2020, at Elliott Chapel, with Ron Yoder officiating. Burial will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery, Hutchinson. She was born September 22, 1925, in Pratt, to Earl James and Faith Alvena (Freeman) Ball.&nbsp;Billie attended Pratt schools, graduating in 1943. She worked at the Pratt Air Base in a Civil Service position throughout World War II. After resigning, Billie entered Wichita-St. Joseph School of Nursing, graduating in 1949.&nbsp;She married Gordon C. Blumenshine, of Clearwater, on May 24, 1949. They lived briefly in Clearwater, and then made their home in Wichita. In 1963, Billie and Gordon moved to a farm near Mulvane. They lived in Belle Plaine from 1976, until retiring to Hutchinson in 1985.&nbsp;Billie had a long, active career in nursing, from 1950 until she retired in 1985. She worked at St. Joseph Medical Center, Wichita MediCenter, Boeing Aircraft, and in several physician’s practices in Wichita and Belle Plaine.&nbsp;Billie was passionate about providing professional, compassionate health care, and had wonderful, warm relationships with those for whom she cared. She was kind to all she met and had an unfailing positive attitude. Billie was artistic, loved music and was always busy with a project of some kind. Throughout the years, Billie and her family enthusiastically participated in the Sedgwick County 4-H program, and enjoyed boating and water skiing together and with extended family and friends.Billie is survived by her daughters and sons-in-law, Christine Marie (Jerry) Gee of Coeur d’Alene, Idaho and Billie Patrice ‘Trice’ (Roger) Mott of Hutchinson; grandchildren, Carolyn (Joshua) Jaeger, Erin (Bob) Van Allen, Stephanie Mott, Cassie Mott (Jason Wyer) and Garret Mott; seven great-grandchildren; and many extended family members and friends.She was preceded in death by her parents, Earl and Faith Ball; husband, Gordon; brothers, Dwight and Kenneth Ball; sisters, Mildred Wedmark and Virginia Beech; and one grandson, Nathan Gee.A family graveside service will be held at the Clearwater Cemetery. Albert ‘Harold’ Gottsch, 89, died Thursday, October 8, 2020, at Hester Care Center, Hutchinson. He was born May 26, 1931, in Woods County, OK, to Albert Henry and Anna Katherine (Finnigan) Gottsch.

Harold graduated from Dacoma High School, Dacoma, OK, Oklahoma A&amp;M College, and received his master’s degree from Kansas State University. He moved from El Dorado to Hutchinson in 1972. Harold was the Reno County Extension Director until his retirement. He was a member and past-president for NARFE (National Active and Retired Federal Employees Association) and a member of Trinity United Methodist Church, Hutchinson. Harold enjoyed walking and his K-State Wildcats.

On May 14, 1954, Harold married Dona Mae Molz in Kiowa. She died November 21, 2008, after sharing 54 years of marriage. He later married Jean Petermann.

Harold is survived by wife, Jean of Hutchinson; daughters, Karen Thorsell (George) of Chanute, Linda Dixon (Bob) of North Kansas City, MO, and Janice Wood (Craig) of Overland Park, KS; six grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and Jean’s children, Lisa Neagle, David Petermann, and Brian Petermann.

He was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Gayla Diane Gottsch O’Connell; brothers, Dan, Darrel, and Alan; and infant sister, Edith Ann.

Lucia Amalie Adam, 93, passed away on October 8, 2020 at her home in Hutchinson, KS of natural causes. She was born on November 13, 1926 in Germany to Heinrich and Martah Schidelko - Owzorz.

Lucia grew up and attended school in Bavaria and Czechoslovakia and continued with business classes at Hutchinson Junior College after moving to the United States. Lucia met Valentine Adam Jr. during WWII and they were married for 58 years. Lucia made it her life’s work and passion to manage restaurants and feed people. She was the owner of the Edelweis Club in Hutchinson KS. She was also an avid knitter and quilter, and made numerous quilts for World Relief. She was also a volunteer for the Red Cross both in Europe and America.

She is preceded in death by her parents; Heinrich and Martah Schidelko-Owzorz; husband, Valentine Adam Jr; sisters, Geisla Marcellas and Dorthy Polodna; daughter, Peggy Konkle; grandchild, Sheila Woods and son-in-law, Rodger Woods Sr.

Lucia is survived by daughter, Irene Woods and son, Marvin Adam (Peggy); five grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren and three great-great grandchildren.

There will be a receiving of friends and graveside service for family and close friends on Saturday October 10, 2020, with a memorial celebration to be held in the summer of 2021. Service officiated by Quentin Nuttmann of Our Redeemer Lutheran Church. Funeral arrangements are being handled by Hutchinson Funeral Chapel &amp; Crematory.

Gerald A. Duncan, age 72, of Hesston, Kansas passed away Thursday, October 8, 2020 at his home. He was born September 3, 1948, at Fort Sherman, Panama, the son of Hoyt A. and Nancy (Duke) Duncan.

Gerald graduated from Port Hueneme High School in California. He served in the United States Army from 1968 to 1970 as a crew chief in the Vietnam War, obtaining the rank of Specialist 5. He owned and operated Action Home Repair and also restored and painted automobiles for many years.&nbsp; He was a lifelong resident of California, moving to Hesston in 2019.&nbsp; Gerald enjoyed riding his Harley Davidson motorcycle with his friends and various clubs. He was a friend to all and kept in contact with everyone he met.

Survivors include a son, Shane A. (Misti) Duncan of Hesston; step-mother, Margaret Duncan of Palmdale, CA; seven grandchildren and five great grandchildren.

Cremation is planned with private family services to be held. Memorials may be given to the Wounded Warrior Project, in care of Miller-Ott Funeral Home, PO Box 32, Hesston, KS 67062.

Melvin Mast, 88, passed away October 8, 2020, at Hutchinson Regional Medical Center.

He was born August 1, 1932 to Roman and Anna (Bontrager) Mast at Hutchinson, Kansas.&nbsp; He lived with his parents until he moved to Golden City, Missouri to live with his sister, Emma and John Byler for 19 years.&nbsp; He moved with them to Oroville, California in 2008.

After the death of Emma, he was moved to Mennonite Friendship Communities where he spent the last 20 months, enjoying sleeping late and taking plenty of time with his meals.&nbsp; Chapel singing and working Printer’s pies were some of his favorites.&nbsp; He was a member of the Amish Church.

Survivors include his brother, Eli (Lydia) Mast of Ronks, Pennsylvania; sister, Fannie Otto of Arthur, Illinois; and brother-in-law, John Byler of Oroville, California.

Melvin was preceded in death by his parents, Roman and Anna Mast; sister, Emma Byler; brother, Johnny Mast; and brother-in-law, Amos Otto.

Patsy Wiard, age 81, passed away on October 8, 2020, at Health Central Hospital in Ocoee, FL of natural causes. Patsy was the daughter of Lee and Frieda Allen. She was born and raised in and around Kingman, KS. Patsy was preceded in death by her husband, Darwin last year and her brother Lael Allen.

Patsy was a graduate of Kingman High School. Patsy and Darwin made their home and raised their family in Hutchinson, KS. She and Darwin were very involved with the National JUCO Basketball tournament, The Moose Lodge and the American Legion. Fred L. Miller, 85, of South Hutchinson, died October 7, 2020, at Mennonite Friendship Communities, South Hutchinson. He was born July 27, 1935, in Hutchinson, to Levi and Clara (Nisly) Miller.

JoAnne Smith, 92, of Hutchinson, went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, October 7, 2020. She was born April 25, 1928, in Augusta, to Bertram and Flora (Fitzwilliam) St. Clair.

JoAnne married the love of her life, Albert ‘Al’, on November 16, 1948, in Hutchinson. They remained in Hutchinson and raised their family. JoAnne’s lifelong love of God and family was a wonderful testament for her children. She was blessed and proud of her seven children, eighteen grandchildren, and twenty great-grandchildren, all of whom are a true legacy to a life of love and devotion to her family.

Joseph Anthony ‘Joe’ Wendell, of Hutchinson, the legend who could improvise a far-fetched tale without even a smirk, ended his final chapter on October 7, 2020, at the age of 71.

He was born in Beloit on September 18, 1949, to John Martin ‘Kenny’ and Lucile (Koster) Wendell. The third of eight children, Joe grew up in a small limestone house, working on the family farm, where he and his siblings all shared one bedroom, an outhouse, and lots of backbreaking chores. Joe’s youth was deeply rooted in the countless generations of Catholic faith that came before him, and in the belief that a family that prays together, stays together. Joe excelled at track and basketball, while attending St. John’s Catholic School, graduating in 1967. When, as an adult, Joe learned of his enlarged heart, his momma was not a bit surprised, saying, ‘I always knew you had a big heart, I just didn’t know anyone else knew it!’ Though it was that same heart that ended his life, it served him and us all so well, even until the very end.

It was that same heart that fell in love with his wife of almost 50 years (49 years and nine months to be exact). On January 9, 1971, Joe married his wife, Diana Ruth Fromm. Together they had one son and two daughters (who vied for the role of being ‘his favorite’ up to the very end): Jeremy Wendell (Jen) of Hutchinson, Kelly Ulmer (T.J.) of Olathe, and Holly Thomas (Jim) of Hutchinson. Though he liked his kids just fine, he much preferred the role of being Grandpa to his grandkids: Grayson, Hailey, Brendan, Aidan, Kaylan, James, Jacob and Autumn. He captivated his audience of grandchildren, spinning tales about how he met their grandmother, or where he found their parents as infants before feeling sorry for them and bringing them home to raise.

Joe moved to Hutchinson in 1969 and became a member of St. Teresa Catholic Church, where he remained a parishioner throughout the remainder of his life. It was in Hutchinson that Joe put his heart into his two loves, automobiles and farming. At the age of 24, Joe’s love of cars resulted in him opening his first auto body shop and he continued his auto body career until his retirement. From childhood on, Joe was a farmer, raising nearly every type of animal imaginable at one point or another, and taking great pride in raising cattle, up until the very end.

Joe will be reunited in death with: his parents, Kenny and Lucile; his father-in-law, Kenneth Fromm; and his brother, Charles Wendell. However, his legacy will live on through his wife, children and grandchildren (all previously referenced) as well as six of his siblings who meant the world to him: Marguerite Harr (Jerry) of Beloit, Bill Wendell (Marty) of Beloit, Jerry Wendell (Amy) of Simpson, Tom Wendell of Beloit, Jane DeClue (Barney) of Dodge City, and Carol Johnson (John) of Beloit, as well as his mother-in-law, Doris Fromm of Beloit; and his numerous and adoring nieces and nephews who will miss ‘Uncle Joe’ dearly.

Truth be known, Joe Wendell had an incredibly generous heart and would give the shirt off his back for someone in need. Joe knew poverty and struggle, but he was also deeply rooted in the ideals of pulling up your bootstraps and finding a way to get what you want in life.&nbsp; Those who knew him well knew a man who could love deeply and had no problem speaking his mind when he saw fit. Joe was constantly surrounded by his loyal friends who enjoyed decades of meeting at the body shop, hunting or standing around the truck and storytelling, while enjoying a beverage or two after working cattle or together in the fields.&nbsp;

We look forward to safely gathering with our friends and family one last time, to collectively share and tell stories about the life of Joe Wendell. During this pandemic, we ask that you wear your masks and remain home if sick. He was a member and past-president for NARFE (National Active and Retired Federal Employees Association) and a member of Trinity United Methodist Church, Hutchinson. Harold enjoyed walking and his K-State Wildcats.

Lois M. Thiessen, 83, of Hesston, Kansas, passed away Wednesday, October 7, 2020, at Schowalter Villa. She was born December 10, 1936 in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania, the daughter of Aaron O. and Mary G. (Musser) Stauffer.

After graduating high school, Lois went to Eastern Mennonite College in Harrisburg, Virginia for two years. She taught elementary school for a few years then went back to school and graduated from Millersville University in Millersville, Pennsylvania. Lois continued teaching in Pennsylvania following graduation.

During a visit to her brother in Newton, Kansas, she landed a job as a librarian for two different elementary schools. It was during this time, through mutual friends, she met Harvey Thiessen. They were married September 26, 1970 at West Zion Mennonite Church in Moundridge. They enjoyed 50 years together.

Lois went on to work for Hesston Elementary School as the librarian for 24 years, where she retired in 1996. During her retirement, Lois volunteered at Newton Medical Center in the surgery waiting area, and was in charge of fundraisers for the hospital auxiliary. Lois and Harvey were members of West Zion Mennonite Church in Moundridge, where she served as the librarian and also taught Sunday school classes. She has also acted as chairman and treasurer for Harvey County Teacher’s Board. Lois and Harvey did a lot of traveling and worked for 10,000 Villages, volunteering for 10 years.

Lois is survived by her husband, Harvey Thiessen of Hesston; daughter, Julie Buller and husband David of Lawrence; son, Murray Thiessen and wife Lisa of Palisade, Colorado; four grandchildren, Riley and Sydney Buller, Travis Thiessen and wife Haley, and Abby Thiessen; sister, Mary Jane Rutter and husband Charles of Lancaster, Pennsylvania; sisters-in-law, Ruth Anne Stauffer of Lititz, Pennsylvania and Linda Stauffer of Newton; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

She is preceded in death by her parents; sisters, Katie Stauffer, Elizabeth Burkhart, Verna Musser and Eva Fox; and brothers, Enos Stauffer, Jack Stauffer and Alfred Stauffer.

Private graveside services will be held at Hesston City Cemetery. Family will greet friends from 4-6 p.m., Friday. October 23, 2020 at Miller-Ott Funeral Home, Hesston. Mary Kathleen ‘Kathy’ Eckley, 74, formerly of Hutchinson, died October 6, 2020, at Ascension Via Christi St. Joseph. She was born March 25, 1946, in Huntington, IN, to John W. and Evelyn Lorene (Shuster) Eckley.

Kathy graduated from Hutchinson High School in 1964, and Mercy School of Nursing (the same nursing school where Kathy’s mom received her nursing degree), in 1968. She was the head nurse at St. Joseph Hospital, Wichita, where she met Dr. Rex Lee. They were married in 1982 and enjoyed traveling together. Shortly after their marriage, Kathy began working for Russ Pharmaceuticals. Kathy also enjoyed driving her RV with her three daughters, taking them to many locations that were meaningful to her during their childhood. She was an independent, compassionate, and strong willed (yet polite) soul, with a servant heart. Kathy enjoyed a close relationship with God throughout her life, but the relationship became closer after her retirement. She cherished her quiet time with the Lord.

Kathy is survived by daughters, Jennifer Casady (Eric) of Benton, Jackie Muzzy of Wichita, Jamie Burns (Aaron) of Goodyear, AZ; brothers, Craig Eckley (Fran) of Mound, MN, Alan Eckley (Beth) of Lenexa; nine grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; grandparents; and Jennifer, Jackie, and Jamie’s father, Phil Crayne.

Funeral service will be 11:00 a.m. Saturday, October 10, 2020, at Grace Episcopal Church, 2 Hyde Park Drive, Hutchinson, with the Reverend Dr. J. Ted Blakley officiating. Burial will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery, Hutchinson. Friends may call from 9:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. Friday at Elliott Mortuary. Before retirement, Karyn worked for Carriage Crossing and in the bakery at Wal-Mart. She was very talented at crocheting. Karyn attended Eastwood Church of Christ, in Hutchinson.

Leonard D. Zink passed away on Monday, October 5, 2020, at the Hays 
Medical Center in Hays, Kansas, at the age of 82. He was born on 
September 3, 1938 to William and Eva (Mason) Zink in Phillips County, 
Kansas.
 Leonard is a lifetime resident of Phillips County; he attended 
Tanyard Country School for 3 years before going to Glade Grade School 
and later, Phillipsburg High School where he graduated with the Class of
 1956. Following graduation, he continued to work for the family farm 
until he was drafted to the United States Army in 1961. He faithfully 
served our nation for 2 years before being honorably discharged in 1963.
 Leonard returned to the farm and later took it over completely, 
continuing his labors farming the land and taking care of the livestock 
until he was no longer able. 
 Aside from being a farmer and rancher, Leonard was the Rushville 
Township Treasurer for many years. In his younger years he enjoyed the 
4-H shows. Most of the time Leonard stayed busy and kept to himself but 
loved to be around all his nieces and nephews when he had the chance. 
Attending the annual Phillipsburg Rodeo, and going out to eat with 
friends and neighbors was always something he enjoyed. He was a quiet, 
hardworking, faith-filled man. He attended the St. Thomas Catholic 
Church in Stockton the majority of his life and was also involved in the
 Legion of Mary. 
 Left to cherish his memory is his sister, Jeannine (Bob) Goertz of 
Hutchinson, KS; nieces and nephews, Renee (Randall) Gates of Manhattan,

Philip Miller Ziegler, 85, of Hutchinson, Kansas died October 4, 2020, at Legends of Hutchinson. He was born January 10, 1935, in Oakley, Kansas, to Tony and Margaret (Miller) Ziegler.

Philip graduated from Oakley High School in 1952, and attended Regis College in Colorado. He was General Manager for Kansas Farmers Service Association. Philip touched many lives with his sense of humor. He was a devoted father and husband, setting a meaningful example for his family. Philip was a hard worker who taught his children to do the same. He loved sports and was an enthusiastic KU, Royals, and Chiefs fan, and he drove many hours over the years to watch his own children play sports. Philip was a member of Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church, South Hutchinson.

On November 22, 1956, he married Agnes Marie Kaiser in Grainfield, Kansas. They shared 63 years of marriage together.

Philip is survived by wife, Agnes Ziegler, Hutchinson, Kansas; son, Jim Ziegler (Lori Usher), Wichita, Kansas; daughter, Doris Podany (Tom), Wisner, Nebraska; daughter, Wanda Newton (Scott), Pulaski, Tennessee; son, Wayne Ziegler (Jenny), Dripping Springs, Texas; sisters, Delphine Malone, California, and Loretta Beckman, Colorado; ten grandchildren; and ten great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Leo Ziegler; sisters, Agnes Young, Marci Mues, and Irene Zerr; and grandson, Clint Ziegler.

Philip Miller Ziegler | 1935 - 2020 |

William (Bill) Sisson was born to Dean and Barbara Sisson on March, 23, 1954 in Hutchinson, Kansas. He went to be with his Heavenly Father on October 3, 2020 at the young age of 66 at Wesley Hospital, Wichita, KS, surrounded by his wife and children.

Bill grew up in Hutchinson until his family moved to Inman right after his 10th birthday where he resided for the remainder of his life. Upon graduating from Inman High School in 1972 he continued his education at Dodge City Community College where he graduated with an Associates Degree and many fond memories.

When he came back to Inman after college he worked at the Inman Lumber Yard. During this time he met and fell in love with his wife Debra (Nikkel) Sisson. They married on October 10, 1976. Bill was a devoted father to Christopher Sisson (Marla), Jessica Rall (Brian), Nicole McClellan (Bryan) and Poppy to six beautiful grandchildren; Ibis and Elias Sisson, Barron and Briley (Boo) Rall, and Korbyn and Kora McClellan. Bill is proceeded in death by his father, Dean Sisson. Bill is survived by his mother, Barbara Sisson of Inman, brother Jerry Sisson (Ruth) of Inman, and sister Teri Sisson of Oklahoma City and many more relatives and friends.

Bill had many hobbies throughout his life. He loved to go fishing no matter the location, played on a men’s slow pitch softball team for many years, and loved butchering with his buddies Mark and Wayne. One of his proudest roles in the community was as the softball coach for 20 years at Inman High School and coaching numerous youth sports team.

Bill never knew a stranger, was your friend once he knew you and could make you laugh at the drop of a hat with one of his jokes. If he wasn’t at home doing different projects around the house, you could find him up at Deb’s hair salon, at some sort of practice or game for his grandchildren, or talking it up with one of his many friends around town.

He retired from Arconic in 2019. In his retirement, him and Deb were able to enjoy several trips to their favorite vacation spot, Branson. When one his of kids called needing help on a project, he would be there for them. Same went for his grandkids and any family/friends that needed a helping hand.

Bill touched the lives of many people throughout his life and it is evident by all the memories people have shared. Although our time was cut short with him, we are thankful for the time we did have and all the memories we were able to create. He will be missed greatly by many.

Viewing will be held from 4-7 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 9, 2020 at Inman Funeral Home. Family will receive friends from 5-7 that evening. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, October 10, 2020 at Bethel Mennonite Church, Inman. There will be overflow rooms set up at the church for those who wish to social distance. The service will also be live streamed on the Inman Funeral Home Facebook page.  </figure>William (Bill) Sisson was born to Dean and Barbara Sisson on March, 23, 1954 in Hutchinson, Kansas. He went to be with his Heavenly Father on October 3, 2020 at the young age of 66 at Wesley Hospital, Wichita, KS, surrounded by his wife and children.Bill grew up in Hutchinson until his family moved to Inman right after his 10th birthday where he resided for the remainder of his life. Upon graduating from Inman High School in 1972 he continued his education at Dodge City Community College where he graduated with an Associates Degree and many fond memories.When he came back to Inman after college he worked at the Inman Lumber Yard. During this time he met and fell in love with his wife Debra (Nikkel) Sisson. They married on October 10, 1976. Bill was a devoted father to Christopher Sisson (Marla), Jessica Rall (Brian), Nicole McClellan (Bryan) and Poppy to six beautiful grandchildren; Ibis and Elias Sisson, Barron and Briley (Boo) Rall, and Korbyn and Kora McClellan. Bill is proceeded in death by his father, Dean Sisson. Bill is survived by his mother, Barbara Sisson of Inman, brother Jerry Sisson (Ruth) of Inman, and sister Teri Sisson of Oklahoma City and many more relatives and friends.Bill had many hobbies throughout his life. He loved to go fishing no matter the location, played on a men’s slow pitch softball team for many years, and loved butchering with his buddies Mark and Wayne. One of his proudest roles in the community was as the softball coach for 20 years at Inman High School and coaching numerous youth sports team.Bill never knew a stranger, was your friend once he knew you and could make you laugh at the drop of a hat with one of his jokes. If he wasn’t at home doing different projects around the house, you could find him up at Deb’s hair salon, at some sort of practice or game for his grandchildren, or talking it up with one of his many friends around town.He retired from Arconic in 2019.
