Bryce Andy Matteson, 60, of Haven, Kansas, passed away Wednesday, March 31, 2021 at Ascension Via Christi St. Teresa in Wichita. He was born Aug. 23, 1960 in Enid, Oklahoma, the son of Bruce Andrew and Janice Carol (Combrink) Matteson.
He graduated from Billings High School in Oklahoma with the class of 1978. He later graduated from Northern Oklahoma College in 1980, and University of Oklahoma in 1984 with a Bachelor’s degree in Journalism.
Bryce served in the United States Airforce from 1982 to 1986, with the rank of Airman 1st Class.
Following his service in the Airforce, Bryce led a career in radio and television broadcasting for twelve years, throughout Texas, Oklahoma, and Kansas. For the last 22 years, he was a financial advisor.
Bryce was a member of the OU Club of Wichita and HopeNet and served on USD 312 School Board and Haven City Council. He was active member of the churches he attended.
Bryce was an avid outdoorsman, where he enjoyed golfing, camping, fishing, boating and being at the lake. He was also a craftsman and loved woodworking. Bryce was a huge OU fan and loved attending OU football games.
He was united in marriage to Deborah “Debbie” Mundlein on September 4, 1993 at Wichita, Kansas. She survives of the home.
Other survivors include his five daughters, Emily Matteson of Lawrence, Amy (Andy) Meyer of Cheney, Brenna (Jeremy) Kocher of South Hutchinson, Ella (Chris) Peters of Cheney, and Kara Matteson of Haven; ten grandchildren, with one on the way; parents, Bruce and Janice Matteson of Billings, Oklahoma; brother, Aaron (Kelly) Matteson of Sublette; sisters, Sally (Rex) Bruce of Sublette, Tammie (Leroy) Givens of Leoti, and Carol Matteson of Haysville; mother and father-in-law, Tom and Shirley (Nye) Mundlein of Kennebec, South Dakota; two sisters-in-law, Laura Mundlein and Valerie Mundlein, both of Sioux Falls, South Dakota; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his paternal and maternal grandparents; and nephew, Trevor Matteson.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m., Wednesday, April 7, 2021 at CrossPoint Church, 1410 E 30th Avenue, Hutchinson, KS 67502. Burial will follow at Laurel Cemetery, Haven. Friends may pay their respects from 4 to 7 p.m., Tuesday, April 6, at Ott Funeral Home, Haven, with family being present from 5:30 to 7 p.m. The family suggests in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Cancer Council of Reno County or HopeNet in care of Ott Funeral Home, PO Box 217, Haven, KS 67543.
