WICHITA – After five consecutive elimination game victories over the last three days, the No. 10-ranked Hutchinson Community College baseball team was running on fumes Sunday at Eck Stadium.

The Jayhawk West champion, and No. 10 nationally ranked Hutchinson Community College baseball team fell to the Top-ranked Johnson County Cavaliers 14-6 at Eck Stadium in the second championship game of the Plains District (Region 6) tournament.

Bidding for its first regional championship since 2010 and trying to pull off a rare feat – win the double-elimination tournament after losing its first game – which has been done only once since the tournament went to this format in 2004, the Blue Dragons grabbed an early lead. They couldn't sustain the momentum though as Johnson County scored three runs in each of the first three innings and scored at least one run in its first seven at-bats of the game.

The 2024 Blue Dragons close out a record-setting season with a record of 51-13 for first-year head coach Brock Nehls. The 51 wins break the only season wins record of 47 since in 2002 and 2017. The 2024 Blue Dragons won the Jayhawk West for the first time since 2021 and for the 13th time in program history.

The Blue Dragons opened the 2024 district tournament with a 5-4 loss to Barton on Wednesday. Hutchinson then went on a tear through the elimination bracket defeating Dodge City on Thursday, walking off No. 15 Kansas City, 9-8 and ousting Cowley 8-6 on Friday. Then came Saturday with a pair of 10-inning victories – walking off Barton when&nbsp;<a href="https://www.bluedragonsports.com/sports/bsb/2023-24/bios/wesslund_cooper_2jkh">Cooper Wesslund</a>&nbsp;singled home&nbsp;<a href="https://www.bluedragonsports.com/sports/bsb/2023-24/bios/babin_kael_g1ow">Kael Babin</a>&nbsp;with the winning run in the bottom of the 10th for a 3-2 victory. The Dragons forced a second championship game with an 11-8 win over Johnson County later on Saturday.

Hutchinson took a quick 1-0 lead in the top of the first on Sunday when&nbsp;<a href="https://www.bluedragonsports.com/sports/bsb/2023-24/bios/wesslund_cooper_2jkh">Cooper Wesslund</a>&nbsp;singled in&nbsp;<a href="https://www.bluedragonsports.com/sports/bsb/2023-24/bios/pimental-guerrero_luis_ubag">Luis Pimentel-Guerrero</a>. Johnson County immediately answered with a three-run bottom of the first.

Trailing 11-1 after five innings, the Dragons chipped away with a pair of runs.&nbsp;<a href="https://www.bluedragonsports.com/sports/bsb/2023-24/bios/bradford_blake_6h1a">Blake Bradford</a>&nbsp;and&nbsp;<a href="https://www.bluedragonsports.com/sports/bsb/2023-24/bios/bowie_mac_309y">Mac Bowie</a>&nbsp;both scored on two Johnson County errors to cut the deficit to eight runs.

The Dragons tacked on three runs in the ninth when Bradford drove in Pimentel-Guerrero and pinch-runner&nbsp;<a href="https://www.bluedragonsports.com/sports/bsb/2023-24/bios/herrmann_jarrett_gmn0">Jarrett Herrmann</a>&nbsp;with a double. Bradford scored on an RBI triple from&nbsp;<a href="https://www.bluedragonsports.com/sports/bsb/2023-24/bios/tucker_jordan_v8wz">Jordan Tucker</a>.

Pimentel-Guerrero had a career-high four hits, going 4 for 5 with two doubles and two runs scored. Tucker was 2 for 5 with a triple and RBI. Wesslund finished 2 for 3 with an RBI.

The Blue Dragons used five pitchers, who allowed 14 hits, eight walks and hit four batters.&nbsp;<a href="https://www.bluedragonsports.com/sports/bsb/2023-24/bios/toureau_cole_aswi">Cole Toureau</a>&nbsp;(1-2) was tagged with the loss.

POSTGAME NOTES:+ Sophomore&nbsp;<a href="https://www.bluedragonsports.com/sports/bsb/2023-24/bios/babin_kael_g1ow">Kael Babin</a>&nbsp;closed his record-setting stolen base season with 59 steals in 62 attempts. His Blue Dragon career record will stand at 76.

⚾ Blue Dragons fall to No. 1 Johnson County in decisive final

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) — Brady Singer stuck out nine, Vinnie Pasquantino hit a three-run triple and the Kansas City Royals completed a sweep of the Oakland Athletics with an 8-1 victory. It was the third sweep of the season for Kansas City. It took until September 20 for the Royals to record their third sweep of the season last year. Singer tossed six innings on one-run ball, giving up six hits with one walk and nine strikeouts. The Athletics' JP Sears allowed four runs on five hits with two walks and four strikeouts.

ST. LOUIS (AP) — Rafael Devers tied a Boston record by homering for his fifth consecutive game, and the Red Sox beat the St. Louis Cardinals 11-3 to stop a season-high, four-game losing streak. Devers hit a two-run homer in the sixth off Ryan Fernandez, his ninth home run this season. He became the seventh Boston player to homer in five straight games, the first since Bobby Dalbec from Sept. 5-10, 2020. Tyler O’Neill homered against his former team as Boston rebounded after falling two games under .500 for the first time this season. The Red Sox outhit St. Louis 14-6.

LOS ANGELES (AP) — Shohei Ohtani’s first walk-off hit for the Los Angeles Dodgers was also his first game-ending hit in the majors in nearly four years. His new teammates and fans who celebrated with him at Chavez Ravine expect to see many more feats from a superstar who’s somehow improving in Dodger Blue. Ohtani pulled a low fastball to right with two outs in the 10th inning Sunday, scoring Jason Heyward and ending the Dodgers’ 3-2 victory over Cincinnati. Two teammates doused Ohtani with water while a crowd of 52,656 roared for the latest feat by the $700 million slugger.

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (AP) — Xander Schauffele has won his first major with a thrilling win at the PGA Championship. Schauffele made a 6-foot birdie putt on the last hole at Valhalla for a one-shot victory over Bryson DeChambeau. Schauffele set a major championship scoring record in the process. The Olympic gold medalist now has something even more valuable in silver. He gets to hoist the Wanamaker Trophy. Schauffele finished at 21-under 263, breaking by one shot the major record. Schauffele is the first player since Phil Mickelson in 2005 to birdie the last hole of the PGA Championship to win by one.

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (AP) — Scottie Scheffler finished off what he called a “hectic” week at the PGA Championship by surging to an eighth-place finish. The world's top-ranked golfer shot a 6-under 65 to finish at 13 under for the tournament. The round came two days after Scheffler spent time in a Louisville jail following his arrest on charges stemming from a traffic incident. Scheffler is scheduled to be arraigned Tuesday. The 27-year-old Texan says he's not sure what's in store on the legal front in the near future and he's mostly focused on getting home to his wife and newborn son.

DENVER (AP) — Anthony Edwards overcame a slow start and the Timberwolves roared back from a 20-point second-half deficit to eliminate the reigning NBA champion Denver Nuggets 98-90 in a Game 7 Minnesota masterpiece. The Timberwolves overcame a 15-point halftime deficit — the largest comeback in a Game 7 in NBA playoff history — behind Edwards, who had just four points, no rebounds and three assists at halftime but finished with 16 points, eight boards and seven assists. Jamal Murray led Denver with 35 points and Nikola Jokic scored 34 but they got little else from their supporting cast.

NEW YORK (AP) — Tyrese Haliburton scored 26 points and the Indiana Pacers rode one of the most sensational first halves in Game 7 history to a 130-109 victory over the New York Knicks on Sunday, advancing to the Eastern Conference finals for the first time in 10 years. The Pacers made 29 of their 38 shots in the first half, a shooting percentage of 76.3% that was the highest in the postseason since 1997, when the NBA began keeping detailed play-by-play for all four quarters. They led 70-55 at that point. The No. 6-seeded Pacers advanced to face top-seeded Boston in a series that begins Tuesday.

NEW YORK (AP) — Jalen Brunson broke his left hand in Game 7 of the Eastern Conference semifinals, one final injury for a team that was decimated by them. The Knicks lost their most important player when Brunson checked out late in the third quarter and went to the locker room. The Knicks announced in the fourth quarter that he wouldn’t return. Brunson was struggling Sunday, going 6 for 17 for 17 points. He also had nine assists. OG Anunoby played despite a strained left hamstring that forced him to miss the previous four games, but lasted just five minutes.

UNDATED (AP) — Jim Otto, the Hall of Fame center known as Mr. Raider for his durability through a litany of injuries, has died. The team confirmed Otto's death Sunday night. He was 86. The cause of death was not immediately known. Otto joined the Raiders for their inaugural season in the American Football League in 1960 and was a fixture on the team for the next 15 years. He never missed a game because of injuries and competed in 210 consecutive regular-season games and 308 straight total contests despite undergoing nine operations on his knees during his playing career. His right leg was amputated in 2007.

TULSA, Okla.—The Wichita Wind Surge lost 6-5 to the Tulsa Drillers in the series finale. The Propeller Series now stands 6-6 halfway through the 2024 season series between both teams.

Tulsa scored first on a Taylor Young RBI double to center in the bottom of the first inning against Wind Surge starter&nbsp;Pierson Ohl.&nbsp;Emmanuel Rodriguez&nbsp;responded for Wichita in the top of the third with a solo home run that narrowly cleared the fence in left-center to tie the game.

Alex Freeland found the Drillers bullpen in right field on a solo shot of his own in the bottom of the third. The Wind Surge followed on a pair of run-scoring singles from&nbsp;Jake Rucker&nbsp;and&nbsp;Aaron Sabato&nbsp;to take a 3-2 lead in the top of the fourth.

Both sides would follow with home runs between the bottom of the fifth and the top of the sixth. Respectively, Bubba Alleyne tied the game on a solo round-tripper first. Then,&nbsp;Alerick Soularie&nbsp;sliced a two-run laser down the right field line, which stayed fair.

The Drillers would get one run back on a Griffin Lockwood-Powell single to center in the bottom of the eighth to cut into the Wichita lead. After putting runners on first and second, Alleyne grounded into a fielder’s choice where the Wind Surge throw to first flew out of play to score the tying run. ⚾ Tulsa gets walk off win over Wind Surge

MONROE, Louisiana – Two more school record were broken and the Hutchinson Community College women's track and field team had its best national championship finish since 2019 on Saturday at the University of Louisiana-Monroe.

Freshman&nbsp;<a href="https://hutchinson.prestosports.com/sports/wtrack/2023-24/bios/hawkins_brooke_1fkd">Brooke Hawkins</a>&nbsp;finished as national runner-up in the triple jump and freshman&nbsp;<a href="https://hutchinson.prestosports.com/sports/wtrack/2023-24/bios/kuepker_jenna_arvk">Jenna Kuepker</a>&nbsp;broke her own school javelin record to lead the Blue Dragon women to a 13th-place team performance at the 2024 NJCAA Division I Track and Field Championships.

The Blue Dragons scored 19.33 points, scoring in five events. The Dragons' point total and team placing were the best since 2019 when Hutchinson finished 10th with 20 points.

Including the two school records broken on Saturday by Hawkins and Kuepker, the Blue Dragon women broke a total of four over the weekend.&nbsp;<a href="https://hutchinson.prestosports.com/sports/wtrack/2023-24/bios/larson_serenity_tezp">Serenity Larson</a>&nbsp;broke the 10,000-meter record and the Blue Dragon 4x800-meter relay –&nbsp;<a href="https://hutchinson.prestosports.com/sports/wtrack/2023-24/bios/van_zelfden_ellie_7nqg">Ellie Van Zelfden</a>, Larson,&nbsp;<a href="https://hutchinson.prestosports.com/sports/wtrack/2023-24/bios/grantham_abigail_cxzg">Abigail Grantham</a>&nbsp;and&nbsp;<a href="https://hutchinson.prestosports.com/sports/wtrack/2023-24/bios/hoskinson_taylor_qmkp">Taylor Hoskinson</a>&nbsp;– broke that record.

Hawkins took down record No. 3 in the women's triple jump and earned a national runner-up placing on Saturday.

The Blue Dragon freshman capped a tremendous season with a record-breaking jump of 40 feet, 3 1/4 inches. The national runner-up finish was the best event placing for a Blue Dragon since Morgan Ash was the national runner-up in the 2016 javelin.

The final record to fall came at the women's javelin by Kuepker. The Blue Dragon freshman unleashed a school-record throw of 158 feet, 1 inch, which broke her own record of 154-3 at the K.T. Woodman Classic in April.

Hurdler&nbsp;<a href="https://hutchinson.prestosports.com/sports/wtrack/2023-24/bios/james_kaylee_rvey">Kaylee James</a>&nbsp;earned third-team All-America honors with a sixth-place performance in the 100-meter hurdle finals. James finished sixth in the finals with a time of 14.06 seconds. Adding to her indoor season, James is a two-time All-American this season.

Sophomore&nbsp;<a href="https://hutchinson.prestosports.com/sports/wtrack/2023-24/bios/hoskinson_taylor_qmkp">Taylor Hoskinson</a>&nbsp;placed 10th in the 1,500-meter finals, posting a time of 4:49.54.

The Blue Dragons closed out the 2024 championships with two runners in the 5,000-meter finals. Larson placed 11th with a time of 18:48.40. Freshman Jordyn Picolet was 24th with a time of 19:56.88.

The 2024 Blue Dragons closed the season with seven school records and the best overall finish at the Region 6 championship – third place – in program history.

🥇 Hawkins, Kuepker lead Blue Dragons on final day at NJCAA

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) — Brady Singer stuck out nine, Vinnie Pasquantino hit a three-run triple and the Kansas City Royals completed a sweep of the Oakland Athletics with an 8-4 victory Sunday.

It was the third sweep of the season for Kansas City. It took until September 20 for the Royals to record their third sweep of the season last year.

Singer (4-2) tossed six innings on one-run ball, giving up six hits with one walk and nine strikeouts. It was the fifth time this season that Singer has stuck out six or more and was one shy of his season high. He has gone at least five innings in every start this season.

“That’s what we were hoping for, the early counts and low pitch counts and making them make decisions," Royals manager Matt Quatraro said. "Certainly couldn't ask more for that when it comes to efficiency. To have him set the tone like that and get the early lead that’s all we could hope for.”

Pasquantino hit a three-run pinch-hit triple to highlight a four-run sixth inning for the Royals. It was his first career triple in the Majors. Kansas City ended the day with five extra-base hits.

“The nice thing about the Majors is that we have a batting cage close, so from the third inning on, I’m getting hot for that one opportunity," Pasquantino said. “I’m not coming into the game for my speed; I know it’ll be a high-leverage situation, so I was able to do that today.”

Bobby Witt Jr. went 2 for 3 with a double, a triple and two RBI. Maikel Garcia had a two-RBI game and extended a six-game hitting streak. Salvador Perez had a two-hit game with an RBI.

JP Sears (3-3) tossed 4 1/3 innings allowing four runs on five hits with two walks and four strikeouts.

Brent Rooker hit his 11th home run of the season with a three-run shot over the left-field bullpen. He leads the team in the category.

Tyler Soderstrom put the A’s on the board with a two-out double in the fourth. Since being recalled from Triple-A Las Vegas on Wednesday, Soderstorm has a hit in six of nine games. Max Schuemann had a two-hit game.

Trailing 2-1 in the fifth, Oakland had a chance to take the lead with bases loaded with two outs, but Singer ended the inning on a Rooker groundout. Oakland left 10 men on base on 11 hits.

“We have to do a better job of scoring on situations to keep ourselves close late in games,” Rooker said. “We just need to take advantage when we have opportunities. We are just going to keep working. The guys stepping into the box are working hard. We are just going to keep pushing through this tough stretch.”

On a 10-game road trip, the Athletics went 1-9, including an eight-game losing streak. It was also the fourth time Oakland has been swept this season.

“I think the at-bats were better the last two days. We pitched better than we had all series,” A's manager Mark Kotsay said. “Sometimes you get into these ruts where you start hitting well but not pitching and vice versa. You just have to push through them.”

The Athletics head home after a 10-day, tri-city road trip hosting the Rockies beginning on Tuesday night. Aaron Brooks (0-1, 3.86 ERA) will start game one for Oakland. Kansas City continues a six-game homestand with a matchup against Detroit beginning Monday night. Michael Wacha (3-4, 4.71 ERA) will take the mound for the Royals.

⚾ Royals complete sweep Sunday

TULSA, Okla.—The Wichita Wind Surge dropped their second straight game to the Tulsa Drillers by a 4-3 final score. After winning the first three games against the Drillers this week on the road, the Wind Surge will play for the series win tomorrow afternoon.

Jake Rucker&nbsp;singled&nbsp;Kala’i Rosario&nbsp;home in the top of the second inning. Rucker has six RBIs this series, which is the most he’s tallied in a series this season. Yeiner Fernandez tied the game on an RBI double to right field in the Tulsa half of the frame.

The Drillers tallied two runs on a pair of run-scoring knocks in the bottom of the sixth on a Griffin Lockwood-Powell double and a Fernandez single off&nbsp;Jarret Whorff.&nbsp;Jorel Ortega&nbsp;served as the next equalizer of the night a half-inning later with his first home run of the season, a two-run shot, to left field to make the game a 3-3 deadlock heading into the seventh inning stretch.

After the bases filled up in the bottom of the seventh, Austin Beck drew a go-ahead bases-loaded walk to return the lead to Tulsa.&nbsp;Miguel Rodriguez&nbsp;retired the next three batters out of the bullpen to keep the contest close as Wichita was down to their final six outs.

Usyk beats Fury by split decision to become the first undisputed heavyweight champion in 24 years

RIYADH, Saudi Arabia (AP) — Oleksandr Usyk defeated Tyson Fury by split decision to become the first undisputed heavyweight boxing champion in 24 years. Usyk added Fury's WBC title to his own WBA, IBF and WBO belts with a spectacular late rally Saunday highlighted by a ninth-round knockdown in a back-and-forth bout between two previously unbeaten heavyweight champs. Two judges favored Usyk, 115-112 and 114-113, while the third gave it to Fury, 114-113. Usyk started quickly, but then had to survive while the confident, charismatic Fury dominated the middle rounds. Usyk rallied in the final rounds, just as the Ukrainian Olympic gold medalist has done so many times in his career.

Schauffele and Morikawa are tied at the PGA Championship with a lot of company, except for Scheffler

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (AP) — Xander Schauffele and Collin Morikawa are tied for the lead at the PGA Championship going into the final round and they have a lot of company. Low scoring at Valhalla allows for that. Shane Lowry had the second 62 this week. That ties a major championship record. Bryson DeChambeau and Viktor Hovland are within two shots. Fifteen players are separated by five shots. Missing was Scottie Scheffler. He faded early and never recovered. His 73 ends 42 consecutive rounds at par or better. And now he's nine shots behind. Schauffele and Morikawa lead Sahith Theegala by one.

P.J. Washington's free throws finish rally as Mavs beat Thunder 117-116 to reach West finals

DALLAS (AP) — P.J. Washington Jr. made two free throws before an intentional miss with 2.5 seconds left, lifting the Dallas Mavericks to a 117-116 victory over the Oklahoma City Thunder. Dallas moved on to the Western Conference finals for the second time in three seasons. Washington was fouled by Shai Gilgeous-Alexander on a 3-point attempt after Chet Holmgren put the Thunder in front 116-115 with a dunk. The Thunder could only get a desperation shot from well past half court after Washington's missed free throw following two makes for a one-point lead. Dallas trailed by 17 in the second half. Luka Doncic had 29 points, 10 rebounds and 10 assists. Gilgeous-Alexander scored 36 points.

Seize the Grey wins the Preakness for D. Wayne Lukas and ends Mystik Dan's Triple Crown bid

BALTIMORE (AP) — Seize the Grey has won the Preakness Stakes for 88-year-old Hall of Fame trainer D. Wayne Lukas. His victory ended Kentucky Derby winner Mystik Dan's Triple Crown bid. Seize the Grey returned off the same two-week turnaround as Mystik Dan after impressing in a win on the Derby undercard enough to convince Lukas to try the Preakness. Lukas has saddled more horses in the Preakness than anyone else in the race's 149-year history. He has now won the middle leg of the Triple Crown seven times and is one back of the record held by good friend Bob Baffert. Mystik Dan finished second.

Rough return to 'normal' sends Scheffler down the leaderboard at PGA Championship

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (AP) — Scottie Scheffler arrived at the golf course in plenty of time. Once he got there, nothing really worked. A day after he powered through his odyssey to the jailhouse, then back to the course just in time to get to the opening tee box, Scheffler enjoyed a more regular schedule but struggled to keep things together at the PGA Championship. He shot 2-over 73 in the third round to finish at 7 under for the tournament and drop from fourth to a tie for 24th. It snapped a string of 42 straight rounds of par or better.

Clark helps Liberty become 1st WNBA team to have $2M+ in 1-game ticket revenue, AP source says

NEW YORK (AP) — Indiana Fever rookie Caitlin Clark helped bring in record ticket revenue for the New York Liberty in her first game in the Big Apple. The Liberty had more than $2 million in ticket revenue for the game, a WNBA record, according to a person familiar with the situation. NEW YORK (AP) — Breanna Stewart scored 24 points to lead a balanced New York offense as the Liberty beat Caitlin Clark and the Indiana Fever 91-80 in front of a sellout crowd. It was the second consecutive meeting between the teams who finished off a home and home set. Indiana lost on Thursday by 36 points, but was more competitive Saturday thanks to a strong effort by Clark. She finished with 22 points. It was the most in her young pro career. She also had eight assists, six rebounds and eight turnovers.

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) — Seth Lugo struck out 10 and earned his American League-leading seventh victory as the Kansas City Royals beat the Oakland Athletics 5-3 Saturday night.

The Royals improved to 28-19, nine games over .500 for the first time since the end of the 2015 season, when they went on to win the World Series. Kansas City also claimed its eighth series win of the season, a mark the Royals didn't reach until mid-September in 2023.

“With this pitching staff, we don't need much,” second baseman Michael Massey said. "When a hitter is on a hot streak, at what point is he just good and not on a hot streak? I feel like that's where we're starting to get as a team. It's not really a streak. We're just playing the way we're supposed to play.

Oakland lost its seventh straight game, the team's longest skid of the season.

Lugo (7-1) allowed two runs on six hits with a walk in 5 2/3 innings. The 34-year-old right-hander had his second straight double-digit strikeout game and became the eighth Royals pitcher to accomplish that feat. James McArthur picked up his 11th save.

“The starter's job is to pitch deep into the game,” he said. “When (John) Schreiber's having to go multiple innings and three relievers are used, I feel like the standard should be to pitch deeper and to take the load off (the bullpen).”

"You feel really good that he's going to keep you in it” Kansas City manager Matt Quatraro said. ”His stuff looked really good. The home run pitch was just him not getting the ball where he wanted it.

“This was a good test for Lugo. This was the first night when it was really warm and humid, and you could see that they made him work.”

Ross Stripling (1-8) picked up his league-leading eighth loss. The 34-year-old righty allowed four runs on nine hits with no walks and two strikeouts in five-plus innings.

The Athletics had plenty of chances, pounding out 11 hits, but they only pushed across three runs.

“We just didn't get the big hit,” Oakland manager Mark Kotsay said. “They were able to capitalize with two outs. But, offensively, there were better signs.”

The Royals got to Stripling for a pair of runs in the first. Maikel Garcia and Bobby Witt Jr. opened with singles. After the runners advanced to second and third on a groundout, Salvador Perez drove in both with a single to left field.

“I don't care when we score runs,” Quatraro said, “but it's better to get out to a lead. We knew Stripling was going to be tough.”

The Athletics answered in the second. Zack Gelof legged out a double before Seth Brown hit his fourth homer of the season, a 445-foot shot to center field to tie the score.

The Royals regained the lead in the fifth when Vinnie Pasquantino snapped an 0-for-14 slump with a two-out line drive single that scored Garcia. The Royals added to the lead in the sixth on an RBI single by Nelson Velazquez that scored Massey, who led off with a double.

The Athletics closed within a run on an RBI single by Brent Rooker in the seventh. But the Royals got that run back on a leadoff home run by Kyle Isbel, his fourth, in the bottom of the seventh.

The Athletics and Royals will close their three-game series Sunday afternoon. The Athletics will send LHP JP Sears (3-2, 3.96 ERA) to the mound to face RHP Brady Singer (3-2, 2.84 ERA).

&nbsp; MEMPHIS, Tenn. --&nbsp;Wichita State could not hold a pair of multi-run leads as Memphis salvaged the series finale with an 11-10 win on Saturday afternoon at FedEx Park in the final game of the 2024 regular season.

The Shockers saw their seven-game winning streak snapped and will enter the AAC Tournament as the #4 seed. Wichita State (29-27, 15-12) will take on #5-seeded UAB in the opening game of the tournament on Tuesday, May 21 at 8 a.m. CT.

WSU jumped out to a 4-0 lead with a pair of runs in the second and third innings against Memphis starter Caden Robinson.&nbsp;<a href="https://goshockers.com/sports/baseball/roster/seth-stroh/7543">Seth Stroh</a>&nbsp;smashed a two-run homer to right field in the second, then doubled home another run in the third before scoring himself on a&nbsp;<a href="https://goshockers.com/sports/baseball/roster/camden-johnson/7605">Camden Johnson</a>&nbsp;RBI single.

Memphis (23-32, 10-17) pulled back within 4-3 on a Daunte Stuart three-run homer in the bottom of the third and then took a 6-4 lead with three more runs in the fourth. The Shockers handed out five two-out walks in the inning, including two with the bases loaded.

Pierre Seals extended the Tigers lead to 7-4 with an RBI single in the bottom of the sixth, but Wichita State responded with a five-spot in the top of the seventh to retake the lead. The inning started single, walk, single, walk to load the bases with a run already home on a pinch-hit RBI knock from&nbsp;<a href="https://goshockers.com/sports/baseball/roster/jaden-gustafson/7525">Jaden Gustafson</a>. That brought up&nbsp;<a href="https://goshockers.com/sports/baseball/roster/josh-livingston/7602">Josh Livingston</a>, who greeted reliever Logan Rushing with a long grand slam to right field that gave the Shockers a 9-7 lead.

The advantage did not last long, however, as Tyler Heckert smacked a game-tying, two-run shot of his own in the bottom of the seventh to level the score at 9-9.

The Tigers took the lead in the eighth on some bad misfortune for the Shockers. With runners at first and second with one out, Riley Davis hit a high fly ball to right field that Stroh lost in the sun, kicking off his shoulder and onto the warning track for an RBI double and a 10-9 edge. Pierce Leavengood added a crucial insurance run with an RBI ground out, extending the margin to 11-9.

Wichita State did not go quietly in the ninth.&nbsp;<a href="https://goshockers.com/sports/baseball/roster/camden-johnson/7605">Camden Johnson</a>&nbsp;cranked a solo home run with one out in the inning and pinch-hitter&nbsp;<a href="https://goshockers.com/sports/baseball/roster/brayden-luikart/7598">Brayden Luikart</a>&nbsp;followed with a single to put the tying run aboard. Rushing (1-3) picked up the win in relief for Memphis, allowing two runs over 2.1 innings.&nbsp;<a href="https://goshockers.com/sports/baseball/roster/hunter-holmes/8976">Hunter Holmes</a>&nbsp;(1-3) took the loss for Wichita State, conceding the two eighth inning runs in his lone inning of work. WSU committed a season-high four errors in the contest.

K-State (31-22, 15-15 Big 12) enters the upcoming Phillips 66 Big 12 Baseball Championship as the No. 6 seed starting on Tuesday, May 21. The Cats will take on the No. 7 seed KU (29-21, 15-15 Big 12) with first pitch slated for 9 a.m. at Globe Life Field in Arlington, Texas.

"Frustrating loss, you get a chance to sweep someone, and you're one strike away and up two runs," said&nbsp;<a href="https://www.kstatesports.com/sports/baseball/roster/coaches/pete-hughes/2461">Pete Hughes</a>. "It's about as heartbreaking as a setup as you can have. My mind is stuck on that, to be honest with you."

"We did a lot of good things. Proud of our guys battling back and tying that in the bottom of the ninth off a closer who's been dominating this year. ⚾ Cats fall in regular-Season Finale Saturday

WICHITA — For the fourth straight season Wichita State placed multiple student-athletes on the NFCA All-Central Region Team, it was announced by the National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) Saturday morning.

Addison Barnard was named to the First Team and CC Wong picked up Second Team honors. Barnard has been named to the All-Central Region Teams all four years, and this is her second time on the First Team (2022).

Barnard wrapped up a stellar career at Wichita State, leaving the program as the all-time leader in home runs, RBIs, total bases, stolen bases and slugging percentage. Her 93 career home runs are fourth all time in NCAA history. She had three seasons of 20 or more home runs, and holds the top three single season marks on the home run list. Barnard closed her career with a bang in last week's American Athletic Conference Championship, setting tournament records in home runs (6), total bases (26) and RBI (13). Her senior season numbers included 12 doubles, 24 home runs, 48 RBIs, 34 walks and a career-high .397 batting average. Her .973 slugging percentage was the second highest in school history, trailing her own record set in 2022.

Wong made the most of her lone season in Wichita as a senior. A transfer from Grand Canyon, Wong was named the American Athletic Conference Player of the Year after hitting .481 in conference play with 10 doubles, a triple, eight home runs, 29 runs, 31 RBI and 20 walks. For the entire season she hit .470 with 71 hits, 14 doubles, two triples, 14 home runs, 50 RBIs, 53 runs and 38 walks. Her .470 batting average currently ranks first nationally, and she also ranks third in on base percentage (.579) and 11th in slugging percentage (.868). Wong's .579 on base percentage broke Sydney McKinney's single season school record.

The awards honor softball student-athletes from the Association's 10 regions with first, second and third-team selections. NFCA member head coaches from each respective region nominated student-athletes (eight maximum) and voted for the teams. All awarded student-athletes now become eligible for the 2024 NFCA Division I All-America squads.

In a game that lasted five hours and 57 minutes, finishing just after midnight, Wichita State outlasted Memphis 12-10 in 13 innings on Friday night at FedExPark.

The win is Wichita State's seventh in a row and keeps the Shockers chances at the number three seed in the conference tournament alive. WSU can secure the three seed with a win in Saturday's series finale. The loss eliminates Memphis from AAC tournament contention.

&nbsp; It was a wild, seesaw affair that saw the lead yo-yo back and forth several times in the late innings. Memphis (22-30, 9-17) carried an 8-5 edge into the seventh, but the Shockers scored one in that inning on a&nbsp;<a href="https://goshockers.com/sports/baseball/roster/derek-williams/7627">Derek Williams</a>&nbsp;RBI double and two more in the eighth on a game-tying, two-run home run from&nbsp;<a href="https://goshockers.com/sports/baseball/roster/jordan-rogers/7538">Jordan Rogers</a>&nbsp;to knot the game at 8-8.

A fly out and a strikeout followed, but Memphis lefty JT Durham issued three consecutive walks to&nbsp;<a href="https://goshockers.com/sports/baseball/roster/jordan-rogers/7538">Jordan Rogers</a>,&nbsp;<a href="https://goshockers.com/sports/baseball/roster/dayvin-johnson/7596">Dayvin Johnson</a>&nbsp;and&nbsp;<a href="https://goshockers.com/sports/baseball/roster/derek-williams/7627">Derek Williams</a>&nbsp;that forced in two runs for a 12-10 lead.

Geraghty walked the first man he faced in the bottom of the 12th, bringing freshman&nbsp;<a href="https://goshockers.com/sports/baseball/roster/jeremiah-arnett/7612">Jeremiah Arnett</a>&nbsp;into the game. Pitching for the first time since April 30, Arnett struck out the first two hitters he faced and got Jonah Sutton on a fly out to shallow right to nail down his first career save.

The game was the longest in the history of the Memphis baseball program.

&nbsp; Wichita State used 10 pitchers on the night, pulling starter&nbsp;<a href="https://goshockers.com/sports/baseball/roster/caden-favors/7628">Caden Favors</a>&nbsp;after just three innings in preparation for the conference tournament.&nbsp;<a href="https://goshockers.com/sports/baseball/roster/mason-munz/7619">Mason Munz</a>&nbsp;delivered one of the best performances of the season with 2.2 hitless, scoreless innings and&nbsp;<a href="https://goshockers.com/sports/baseball/roster/nate-adler/7515">Nate Adler</a>&nbsp;followed by retiring all seven man he faced with four strikeouts.

&nbsp; Durham (4-2) took the loss for Memphis, allowing both runs in the 12th. Memphis shortstop Jake Curtis pitched two different times in the game, throwing two innings of relief in the seventh and eighth and going back to the mound to record the final out in the 13th.

Memphis shortstop Jake Curtis pitched two different times in the game, throwing two innings of relief in the seventh and eighth and going back to the mound to record the final out in the 13th.&nbsp; WSU held a 5-2 lead into the bottom of the sixth thanks to two big swings.&nbsp;<a href="https://goshockers.com/sports/baseball/roster/seth-stroh/7543">Seth Stroh</a>&nbsp;cranked a two-out, two-run homer to right in the second and in the fifth&nbsp;<a href="https://goshockers.com/sports/baseball/roster/kam-durnin/7604">Kam Durnin</a>&nbsp;sliced a single to right field that was misplayed by Memphis outfielder Pierre Seals, allowing Durnin to circle the bases along with&nbsp;<a href="https://goshockers.com/sports/baseball/roster/dayvin-johnson/7596">Dayvin Johnson</a>. Memphis scored six times in the bottom of the fifth, however, setting the stage for the late inning heroics.The Shockers conclude the regular season on Saturday afternoon against the Tigers. MONROE, Louisiana – Hutchinson Community College freshman track and field athlete&nbsp;<a href="https://www.bluedragonsports.com/sports/mtrack/2023-24/bios/johnson_chris_pj8c">Chris Johnson</a>&nbsp;capped off a season with PRs, event championships and school records with a most coveted prize on Friday the University of Louisiana-Monroe.

Johnson became the third Blue Dragon pole vaulter in team history win an NJCAA national title on Friday, clearing a school-record 16 feet, 8 1/2 inches.

With only two vaulters – Johnson and South Plains' Ajengo Segovia – remaining at 16-3 1/2 inches, both had two missed at that height. Segovia missed, but Johnson earned that height on his final attempt to clinch the national title.

Johnson made his school-record height of 16-8 1/2 on his first attempt, but missed all three times with the bar at 17 feet.

Johnson is the first Blue Dragon individual outdoor national champion which Richard Newman won the high jump in 2019. He is the first pole vault national champion since 1986 when Randy Bryant won the championship. Johnson joins Bryant and Michael Patton (1976) as Blue Dragon pole vault national champions.

Johnson is the 53rd overall individual national champion in Blue Dragon men's track and field history.

Johnson's 10 points scored on Friday vaulted the Blue Dragons into 10th place after Day 2 with 14 points. Iowa Western leads the men's title chase with 52 points. Barton is right behind with 51 points.

Sophomore&nbsp;<a href="https://www.bluedragonsports.com/sports/mtrack/2023-24/bios/brown_christopher_1wqz">Christopher Brown</a>&nbsp;scored two points with a seventh-place performance in the discus on Friday. Brown posted a PR with a heave of 170 feet, 1 inch, which ranks fifth in Blue Dragon history. Brown didn't qualify in the shot put with a 10-place finish and threw of 50 feet, 11 inches.

The Blue Dragon 4x400 relay just missed qualifying for Saturday's finals with a ninth-place time of 3:13.11. The relay team of&nbsp;<a href="https://www.bluedragonsports.com/sports/mtrack/2023-24/bios/telemaque_rickyle_suiu">Rickyle Telemaque</a>,&nbsp;<a href="https://www.bluedragonsports.com/sports/mtrack/2023-24/bios/warren_d-antonio_xcf2">D'Antonio Warren</a>, Elijah Williams and&nbsp;<a href="https://www.bluedragonsports.com/sports/mtrack/2023-24/bios/thid_david_jvzs">David Thid</a>&nbsp;posted the second-best time in Blue Dragon history.

👟 HutchCC’s Johnson grabs NJCAA national pole vault title

HOBBS, New Mexico – Freshman&nbsp;<a href="https://www.bluedragonsports.com/sports/mgolf/2023-24/bios/box_charlie_jgcb">Charlie Box</a>&nbsp;earned first-team NJCAA All-America honors to lead the Hutchinson Community College men's golf team to the ninth Top 10 national finish in program history on Friday at Rockwind Community Links.

The Blue Dragons posted their best round of the 72-hole tournament Friday with a 4-under 280 and placed ninth with a team score of 1,150.

Hutchinson has four consecutive Top 10 national placings, including back-to-back national team championships in 2021 and 2022 and a fifth-place performance in 2023.

Box became the program's sixth first-team NJCAA All-American and 17th overall NJCAA All-American when he tied four fourth place at 5-under 279. Box did not record a single over-par round with three under-par and one even-par round. Box was named a PING NJCAA All-American honorable mention selection on Monday.

Box had two birdies, one bogey and 15 pars in his final-round 1-under 70 on Friday.

He tied with New Mexico Military's Jackson Hicks, Midland's Benjamin Lund-Ravn and Odessa's Adam Bresnu for fourth place. Box was the second-best Region 6 individual finisher. Dodge City's Thanaphon Suwannapratheep earned the individual national championship at 9-under 275.

The Blue Dragons rallied from a four-stroke deficit against Dodge City to become the top Region 6 team finisher. Dodge City finished 11th at 1,158. Barton was 19th at 1,200. New Mexico Junior College won the team championship by three strokes over Odessa College. New Mexico shot 272 on the final day to complete the championship at 13-under 1,123.

The Blue Dragons got off to a sizzling start with nine birdies and only one bogey over the first seven holes. Hutchinson counted scores from Box (70),&nbsp;<a href="https://www.bluedragonsports.com/sports/mgolf/2023-24/bios/ross_louis_dfpl">Louis Ross</a>(67),&nbsp;<a href="https://www.bluedragonsports.com/sports/mgolf/2023-24/bios/thissen_kenton_qoy2">Keaton Thissen</a>&nbsp;(71) and&nbsp;<a href="https://www.bluedragonsports.com/sports/mgolf/2023-24/bios/razinskas_david_7wz3">David Razinskas</a>&nbsp;(72) on Friday.

<a href="https://www.bluedragonsports.com/sports/mgolf/2023-24/bios/anderson_marco_qoi7">Marco Anderson</a>&nbsp;shot a tournament-high 76 on Friday. He tied for 37th in the final standings with a 290.

Ross posted the low round of the championship for the Blue Dragons with a 4-under 67 on Friday with six birdies and two bogeys. Ross played the final eight holes in 4-under par. He finished tied for 55th at 296.
