The Kansas City Royals promoted top prospect Jac Caglianone to Triple-A Omaha on Sunday, moving the power-hitting first baseman/outfielder one step closer to Kansas City.
Caglianone, ranked the No. 1 prospect in the Royals’ system and No. 10 overall by MLB Pipeline, is expected to join the Storm Chasers on Tuesday when they begin a road series against Salt Lake, the Angels’ Triple-A affiliate.
The 22-year-old has impressed in his first full professional season after being selected sixth overall in the 2023 MLB Draft out of Florida. In 38 games at Double-A Northwest Arkansas, Caglianone hit .322 with a .394 on-base percentage and a .553 slugging percentage. He recorded eight doubles, nine home runs and 43 RBIs, with 37 strikeouts and 19 walks in 175 plate appearances.
Also promoted Sunday was left-hander Frank Mozzicato, the Royals’ No. 12 prospect, who earned a move to Double-A after posting a 1.24 ERA in seven starts with High-A Quad Cities.
Caglianone’s call-up to the big leagues could come as early as this summer, depending on both his performance in Triple-A and the needs of the Major League roster.
