HUTCHINSON, Kan. — Hutchinson Community College used a dominant defensive stretch and an 18-0 run to pull away from Labette Community College in a 79-55 win Wednesday night at the Sports Arena.

With the victory, the Blue Dragons improved to 5-1, while the Cardinals fell to 2-5.

Hutchinson closed the first half on a strong surge, but its best work came spanning the halves. Labette did not score from the 0:45 mark of the first half until the 12:53 mark of the second, a drought of over eight minutes of game time. During that span, the Blue Dragons ripped off an 18-0 run to turn a tight game into a comfortable lead.

Freshman Chudier Dorar led Hutchinson with 16 points on 7-of-10 shooting, adding seven rebounds and a block. Sophomore Kyrell Shaw added 15 points and hit a pair of 3-pointers, and sophomore Asher Boney posted his first career double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds.

The Blue Dragons dominated the glass 46-25, including 13 offensive rebounds, and shot 48.5% from the floor.

Bobby Cannon provided a lift off the bench with nine points and seven rebounds, while Daleron Thomas and Anthony Alston each knocked down two 3-pointers.

Labette was led by Josiah Harris, who scored 16 points and grabbed seven rebounds. Tre Paige added 13 points, and Mukadi Mukoma chipped in six. The Cardinals hit 10 3-pointers but shot just 35.7% overall and were held to 21 points in the second half.

Hutchinson will host Garden City on Wednesday, Nov. 19 in the Jayhawk Conference opener at 7:30 p.m.

🏀 Dragons use lockdown stretch to cruise past Labette

ENGLEWOOD, Colo. (AP) — The Denver Broncos are a hurting bunch as they prepare for their showdown with the nine-time defending AFC West champion Kansas City Chiefs this weekend.

They're still without their best defensive player with cornerback Pat Surtain (strained pectoral) about to miss his third straight game. Their leading tackler, Alex Singleton, is recovering from surgery to remove a cancerous testicular tumor and will miss at least one game and possibly more.

And their best offensive player so far, running back J.K. Dobbins, is nursing a left foot injury that is expected to sideline him, as well.

“It's our league,” coach Sean Payton said Wednesday. "You've heard me say that and we've played teams earlier in the season that have been in this position. You know, I won't get into any of the individuals, but it has to be the next man up. And you know we just finished a pretty good stretch” of seven victories in 39 days. “Now, we'll play one game in 23 days.”

The Broncos (8-2) have been installed as slight underdogs against the Chiefs (5-4), but they could bury K.C. in the divisional race with an 11th consecutive home victory Sunday at Empower Field.

They'll have to rely on several backups at key positions to get it done.

Dobbins limped off the field after an illegal but uncalled hip-drop tackle by Raiders defensive end Tyree Wilson late in the third quarter of Denver's 10-7 win over Las Vegas last Thursday night.

Concerns about his health dissipated after he returned and carried six times for 25 yards as the Broncos chewed up the final 4 1/2 minutes in the fourth quarter to secure their seventh straight win, and afterward he dismissed concerns about his health.

“I got hip-dropped. I’m good,’’ Dobbins said after rushing for 77 yards on 18 carries. “Yeah, I had a little limp there but it wasn’t bad. I’m all good. The hip-drop should have been called, though. But I’m all good.”

The next day, though, Dobbins posted an obscenity-laced rant on X, calling for the hip-drop tackles to be penalized, and he sought additional medical guidance. He missed Wednesday's practice as the Broncos installed their game plan featuring several backups.

Dobbins ranks No. 3 in the NFL with 774 yards rushing on 5 yards per carry. Rookie RJ Harvey is a distant second on the team with 214 rushing yards and his biggest contributions so far have come in the passing game with four touchdown catches.

“Listen, when we drafted him, it was his running skill set” that stood out, Payton said of Harvey. “Then you have experience in a guy like Jaleel (McLaughlin), who is explosive and has been champing at the bit. And so yeah I think sometimes players are not held back but you're watching (rookie receiver) Pat Bryant grow right before our eyes, and you're starting to see that with R.J.

"And obviously he'll have more opportunities here this game. So he's built. When you see his frame, he's built to last and that's important.”

Quarterback Bo Nix said the Broncos have faith in their depth.

“We practice all year long and go through OTAs and training camp with a lot of different pieces to the puzzle for a reason,” he said. “... I feel like everybody who's ever played this sport missed a game at some point in their life and it's a physical game played by tough people and so it's going to always present that challenge.”

Also missing practice were Surtain, wide receiver Trent Sherfield (leg), tight end Nate Adkins (knee) OLB Jonah Elliss (hamstring). On Wednesday, the Broncos also signed wide receiver Lil'Jordan Humphrey from the New York Giants' practice squad. Humphrey played in Denver the last two seasons.

The good news for Denver is wide receiver/kick returner Marvin Mims practiced again and is hopeful to return against the Chiefs after missing two games with a concussion.

The Chiefs, who have owned the division since 2016, have their own concerns as running back Isiah Pacheco has a knee injury, but Patrick Mahomes could be getting both of his starting tackles back. First-round pick Josh Simmons has returned to the team after dealing with a family matter and right tackle Jawaan Taylor is coming back from a sprained ankle.

Perry will be a freshman at Kansas for the 2026-27 season.

Described as a shooting guard who can also play small forward, Perry, 6-foot-5, 190 pounds, is playing at Link Academy in Branson, Missouri. A native of Frisco, Texas, Perry played at Lone Star High School and averaged 13.1 points, 5.7 rebounds, 3.0 assists and 3.0 steals per game, prior to Link Academy.

Perry has been described as having a high motor who creates extra possessions with his defense. Additionally, Perry has great length that includes a 7-foot-2 wingspan."

Trent is a winner," Self said. "He does a little bit of everything. He's athletic. He's got size. He's a guy that can play multiple positions on the floor. I feel like when Trent is on your team, your team's automatically better."

The Hutchinson Community College men's basketball team wraps up its non-conference schedule on Wednesday with a matchup against an old Jayhawk East opponent, the Labette Cardinals.

Tipoff between the Blue Dragons (4-1) and Cardinals (2-4) is scheduled for 7 p.m. at the Hutchinson Sports Arena. The Blue Dragon women do not play on Wednesday night.

The game will be broadcast live beginning at 6:45 p.m. on Blue Dragon flagship station KHUT-FM (102.9) and on sister stations KWBW-AM/FM (1450/98.5) with Sean Boston (PBP) and Dan Naccarato (color) calling the action. The game will also be streamed on the Blue Dragon Sports Network at 6:45 p.m.

Hutchinson comes into the game after an 88-72 victory over Lamar in the final game of the BSN Sports Tip-Off Classic last Saturday at the Sports Arena. Sophomore&nbsp;<a href="https://www.bluedragonsports.com/sports/mbkb/2025-26/bios/shaw_kyrell_v507">Kyrell Shaw</a>&nbsp;had career highs of 37 points and 13 rebounds for his first double-double as a Blue Dragon.

Saturday's performance was a rebound game from Friday's first loss of the season, a 71-68 setback against Southwestern Christian.

Through five games, Shaw is leading the Blue Dragons at 21.6 points per game. Forward&nbsp;<a href="https://www.bluedragonsports.com/sports/mbkb/2025-26/bios/cannon_bobby_almy">Bobby Cannon</a>&nbsp;is averaging 19.6 points per game.

The Blue Dragons are averaging 86.0 points per game. They are shooting 46.4 percent overall and 35.8 percent from 3-point range. Defensively, the Dragons are allowing 70.2 points per game.

Of their six games played, the Division II Cardinals have played four NJCAA Division I opponents. They are 0-4 against Independence (96-83), Cowley (95-65), Iowa Western (95-55) and Ellsworth (85-71).

🏀 Blue Dragons host Cardinals in final non-KJCCC matchup

LAWRENCE, Kan. (AP) — Kohl Rosario scored 16 points to help make up for the absence of fellow freshman Darryn Peterson, and No. 25 Kansas bounced back from last week's loss to North Carolina with a 77-46 rout of Texas A&amp;M-Corpus Christi on Tuesday night.

Flory Bidunga added 12 points while Bryson Tiller and Tre White had 11 apiece for the Jayhawks (2-1), who held the Islanders (1-3) to 32% shooting while winning their 22nd consecutive nonconference home game.

Peterson, the nation's No. 1 recruit, scored 21 points in his debut against Green Bay and 22 against the Tar Heels. It wasn't clear why he did not play against the Islanders, but Peterson has been dealing with cramping issues early in the season.

Two more weeks remain in the 2025 season and the Hutchinson Community College football team maintains a stronghold on the No. 1 spot in the NJCAA Division I Football rankings.

Coming off their second bye week of the season, the Blue Dragons travel to Highland on Saturday for a 1 p.m. kickoff and will close the regular season at home on Nov. 22 against No. 11 Garden City.

The Blue Dragons have now been ranked in 32 consecutive polls and have been ranked in 191 of the last 213 polls.

The Blue Dragons are one of three Jayhawk Conference teams in the rankings. Dodge City moved up two spots to No. 2 and Butler jumped five spots to No. 19.

Defending national champion Northwest Florida State remains No. 12, followed by Dodge City, Chipola, Three Rivers and Gulf Coast State.

The Blue Dragons play a pair of home games this weekend in the Hutch Women's Classic. The Blue Dragon play host to Murray State at 6 p.m. on Friday and Otero at 4 p.m. on Saturday. No. 20 State Fair is the fourth team in the field.

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. (AP) — As the Kansas City Chiefs weigh&nbsp;<a href="https://apnews.com/article/kansas-city-chiefs-clark-hunt-94bac7ee85253b069d0145050df10ccb">whether to play future games</a>&nbsp;in a renovated Arrowhead Stadium or a proposed dome in Kansas, Missouri Gov. Mike Kehoe on Tuesday floated a potential mixture of the two concepts aimed at keeping the team in his state.

Kehoe, who has been in regular discussions with Chiefs executives, said there has been no talk of building a traditional domed stadium in Missouri. But that doesn't mean there couldn't be another type of covering over the Chiefs' well-known home.

“There’s some interesting architectural improvements to make to Arrowhead that could be conducive to an all-weather protective environment without being a full dome,” Kehoe told The Associated Press on Tuesday. “I would say, look at some of the structures that are in Europe that may have some sort of fabric device that goes over it.”

Kehoe was in Germany in November 2023 while the Chiefs played the Miami Dolphins at Frankfurt's Deutsche Bank Park, which opened in 1925 but has been renovated numerous times. Now, the home of soccer club Eintracht Frankfurt has a flexible, translucent roof membrane supported by cables that can be opened or closed depending on the weather.

Such a covering for Arrowhead is no sure thing, Kehoe said.

But it could be one way to preserve its famous outdoor environment while still providing an indoor-like option that's often preferred for major events, such as a Super Bowl.

Chiefs fans “like the rough and tough and getting outside,” Kehoe said. “So I think the ownership group does realize that the fan base likes the environment they’re in and would love to continue with a legacy experience at Arrowhead.”

The Chiefs declined to address Kehoe's latest comments when reached by AP on Tuesday, referring instead to remarks made by chairman Clark Hunt to local reporters before the team played the Washington Commanders two weeks ago. At the time, Hunt said the club founded by his late father, Lamar Hunt, was still considering options on both sides of the Kansas-Missouri state line.

“I wouldn’t say we’re in limbo. Stadium projects move at their own pace,” Hunt said. “We’ve learned over the years that you can’t really force them to go faster, even if you want them to. And so it’s just important for us to keep working on both options.”

The Chiefs and the Kansas City Royals have played for more than 50 years in side-by-side stadiums in Jackson County, Missouri. But those leases are due to expire in January 2031, and the two franchises have been working on plans for future years.

Voters in Jackson County soundly&nbsp;<a href="https://apnews.com/article/chiefs-royals-kansas-city-stadiums-e9605296b85e91699441e4ba10e83212">defeated a local sales tax extension</a>&nbsp;last year that would have helped to finance an $800 million renovation of Arrowhead and a $2 billion ballpark district for the Royals in downtown Kansas City. This past September, voters overwhelmingly recalled County Executive Frank White in part because of his stance on the project.

Since the sales tax defeat, the Chiefs and Royals have pursued separate plans, though each are considering options in Kansas and Missouri. The Royals have made it clear they will not play in Kauffman Stadium beyond the end of their current lease.

Kehoe said he plans to meet Wednesday with new Jackson County Executive Phil LeVota, who also has been in discussions with the Chiefs. Another local public vote likely will be needed to help finance any renovation of Arrowhead, Kehoe said.

“What Jackson County ends up doing in response to make sure the Chiefs stay in Missouri is a key component for what we’re going to do," Kehoe said.

The Chiefs said at the time that, if they choose to stay in Missouri, they would undertake a $1.15 billion renovation of Arrowhead Stadium. But the team has not released specific details of what those renovations might entail.

“If we pursued the renovation option, there is a chance that we would be on a ballot next year,” Hunt said last month.

The Kansas Wrestling Coaches Association released its preseason rankings this week, with several area student-athletes among the top entering the 2025-26 high school wrestling season.

Hutchinson opens the year ranked No. 5 in the state, while Newton checks in at No. 9. The Salthawks feature four wrestlers among the state’s best: junior Cruz Cannon is ranked No. 4 at 126 pounds, junior Cooper Harris is No. 2 at 157, junior Max Harris holds the top spot at 165, and senior Jackson Anderson is No. 5 at 190.

Newton also returns a strong core, led by junior Noah Vela (No. 4, 106), sophomore Wade Stubbs (No. 2, 113), sophomore Exavier Torres (No. 5, 120) and junior Cason Horton (No. 2, 190).

No area teams appear in the Top 10, but Buhler has three individuals ranked: junior Sammy Hershberger (No. 3, 144), senior Luke Kerns (No. 5, 175) and sophomore Jacob Kurklow (No. 6, 190).

Two area wrestlers earned preseason recognition — Tanner Loughrie (sr., Haven) is No. 5 at 132, while Jace Grizzle (jr., Lyons) opens the season ranked No. 1 at 150.

KANSAS CITY, Mo.—The Kansas City Royals announced today they acquired right-handed pitcher Mason Black from the San Francisco Giants for right-handed pitcher Logan Martin. Black was designated for assignment by the Giants last week. Including Black, Kansas City’s Major League Reserve List is now at 37.

Black, 25, had just one stint with the Giants in 2025 and made his only appearance of the season on July 4 vs. the Athletics in Sacramento, where he covered 4.0 innings in relief and struck out 5 batters.

He spent the remainder of this season with the Triple-A Sacramento River Cats, going 3-10 with a 5.81 ERA (77 ER in 119.1 IP) over 30 appearances (24 starts). He recorded 114 strikeouts (8.6 K/9), which ranked 9th most among all Giants minor leaguers this year.

Black debuted with San Francisco in 2024 and appeared in 9 games (8 starts) while pitching to a 6.44 ERA (26 ER in 36.1 IP) with 31 strikeouts.

He was selected by the Giants in the 3rd round of the 2021 Draft out of Lehigh University (Pa.). He made his Major League debut on May 6, 2024 at Citizens Bank Park, which is approximately two hours south of his hometown of Archibald, Pa.

TOPEKA, Kan. — Active-duty military members, veterans, and one guest will receive complimentary admission to Kansas high school playoff football games this week, the Kansas State High School Activities Association announced.

For the third straight year, KSHSAA is offering free entry to all Sectional Championship football games scheduled for November 13 and 14.

Any active-duty service member or veteran may attend with one guest at no charge by presenting a driver’s license that displays the veteran seal or other proof of military service, such as a veteran ID card.

Sectional games will be played Thursday or Friday, depending on facility availability. Host schools may also choose to recognize veterans and active military members in additional ways on gameday.

MANHATTAN, Kansas – (rv/25) K-State used a late second quarter run to distance themselves from Lamar before halftime and never looked back on the way to an 89-61 win on Monday night at Bramlage Coliseum.

K-State (3-0) was led by junior guard Taryn Sides with a game-high 20 points on 8-of-12 shooting to go with five assists and four steals.

Joining Sides in double figures was sophomore guard Izela Arenas with 18 points off the bench on 7-of-11 shooting.

In her first career start, freshman guard Jordan Speiser carded her first career double-double with 11 points and 10 rebounds. Freshman guard Brandie Harrod added 10 points and three rebounds.

- K-State broke open a two-point lead, 31-29, with a 21-3 run to span the first and second halves. Sides started the run with a three-pointer with 3:29 remaining in the second quarter. Sides connected on her second 3-pointer with 2:28 to play in and Arenas followed with a putback layup on K-State's next possession.

- Freshman guard Gina Garcia added a layup with 1:17 left. Sides would beat the halftime buzzer with a driving layup to stake the Wildcats to a 48-32 halftime lead.

- Sides would make the first basket of the third quarter and Arenas added a driving layup with 8:53 to play in the third quarter and force a Lamar (0-2) timeout with the Wildcats leading 52-32.

- K-State would hold a 20-point lead entering the fourth frame, 66-46.

- The Cardinals would narrow the margin to 17, 70-53, with 8:10 to play in the final stanza, but the Wildcats answered with a 15-2 run to bring the margin up to 30, 85-55, with 3:10 left. Sides and Arenas each registered five points during the run to seal the win.

- K-State shot 51.6 percent (33-of-64) from the field including 32.0 percent (8-of-25) from long distance. The Wildcats tallied 48 points in the paint, the second time this season K-State has scored at least 48 points in the lane.

And, I think Lamar is a scrappy, tough team, and so for us to be able to control the ball like that's pretty good."

"I mean, we're coming off of a 46-point game, so there wasn't a whole lot I liked offensively a couple days ago. I think we're a long ways away offensively in the half court. Today, we rebounded well enough. You saw the parts of the game that gave us trouble were when we fouled them and put them to the free throw line. The game got bogged down. Got in a half court game. But that's to be expected. We've got a lot of new pieces in there, so the chemistry of working together, everybody connecting is just going to take some time. So we're seeing better things every game but, it's not going to be a straight line of improvement. I was telling a couple players, like everybody always thinks you just start here, and you just get better and better and better. And that's not how it works, you get a little bit better, and then you take a couple steps back, and then you get a little bit better. And you hope that's how it goes, right? So, I think there were stretches of this game where it looked really bad, and there were stretches of this game where you saw it look really good."

"I thought (Jordan) Speiser rebounded really well. I thought she did some really nice things off the bounce. I just think she's taken some hard threes. She comes in with a reputation as a shooter, so they're aware of her shot and so, it's going to require a little bit of patience on her part. I like the attitude that she has about being certainly ready to shoot it. But I think as we progress, she's going to get better and better looks. But I like the fact she did a lot of things tonight better. I told her yesterday, I think her defense continues to get better. You saw tonight, the rebounding, so she's doing more things."

On the inside presence offensively by the team in the first three games…

"I think we've gotten there differently. I think Arenas has been able to get there more. We've seen Brandie Harrod get there. You saw Speiser get there tonight. Certainly in our pick and roll game it's an area that we're improving. We got a long ways to go, but it's not going to be the way it was a year ago. We did see Ramiya White get some looks down there. Ramiya continues to work hard, and I think she's going to continue to improve, so we're just gonna have to get there differently."

On what the process is of having four games in eight days…

"I think anytime you play a lot of games, particularly with a young team, you try to find a balance of working on you and working on the scout. I don't want to get too far away from working on us because we have so many fundamental things that we need to just continue to build on. I thought coming out of the SMU game was the best defensive game we had played. Going back on film, I was really proud of our group, how connected they were defensively, and I thought our habits looked really good. I thought tonight was a very average defensive game. So, that's the balance with playing games. You start to see some slippage of your habits. So, it's going to be a concerted effort not to overload them with scouts. We've got to continue to improve. We've got to keep the focus on us getting better together in practice. When you have a veteran team, they have better habits, the slippage is less. We'll get back to us. We've got tomorrow off. The other part of that is balancing rest with work. We'll get tomorrow off. We'll come back Wednesday, but Wednesday's practice will be 90% us, because I want to make sure we continue to build those good habits."

"I think the main thing was we stopped fouling as much as we did in the first quarter. I think Coach (Jeff) Mittie said they went to the line 12 or 14 times in the first quarter, and it's hard to get going when you have to stop every other possession. So I think we just locked in better defensively, and we were able to push in transition and offense got into a little bit of a flow."

"I think Coach Mittie has mixed up the lineup so that we've been able to work with different people and I mean, it's a continued process of meshing together and learning from each other even more. I think that's how this year will be for the first half of it. I'm just trying to get better and learn from each game. We're a young group, so I just have to take it and make it better."

"[Jordan Speiser] is through the roof. She can really shoot that thing. I know she probably hasn't shot as well as she's wanted to, but I know it's coming. She shoots it really well in practice, and I know that will translate to the game and she's continued to grow in other areas as well. Today, she got to the basket better. I think her defense has gotten better throughout these past three games. I think I'm excited to see where she can get to."

On getting her first career double-double…

"It just came from rebounding. My shots [are] not falling right now, but they'll start falling. I understood that, and still shot eight threes, but I understood that I needed to get to the basket and needed to impact the game in other ways, and felt like I hustled hard and got that done."

On if it's hard to keep the misses out of her mind…

"It's extremely hard, but I have coaches instilling confidence in me and just telling me to keep shooting. They're going to fall, so I'm not worried about it."

On when she found out she would be making her first career start…

"I learned that right before we ran out for our last warm up– and the feeling, it was great. That's every player's goal. I was just really happy and really excited. So that was great."

🏀 K-State downs Lamar for third straight win

LAWRENCE, Kan. – Kansas soccer was selected for the 2025 NCAA Division I Women's Soccer Championship for the second straight year and will be a three seed in the tournament field. Kansas will host the first round at Rock Chalk Park for the first time since 2019 against California Baptist on Friday, Nov. 14 at 6 p.m. CT. The match will be broadcast on ESPN+.

Kansas is in the NCAA Tournament for the 11th time in school history. The back-to-back NCAA Tournament appearances mark the third time in program history and the first since 2018-19. This will be the seventh time that Kansas has hosted the NCAA Tournament and the No. 3 seed is tied for the highest seed in program history with 2019.

"I'm proud of this team for earning a three seed," Kansas head coach Nate Lie said. "That's a reflection of the body of work over three months or so. What we just talked about with the team is even more than that, because in order to be successful at the beginning of the year, you need to come in fit, and that was probably three months of hard work in the summer on your own. So to earn a three seed, that's the highest I've ever been placed, is already a great start. We have our work cut out for us, but I have a lot of confidence in this group, and we'll just see how long we can keep playing."

Kansas enters the NCAA Tournament with a record of 14-5-3 after advancing to the Big 12 Tournament Championship for the second straight season. The Jayhawks knocked off the number two and three seeds in the first two rounds before falling to BYU in the championship match. Kansas has already surpassed its win total from last season and has its most wins since 2019.

The five losses for the Jayhawks this season have all come against teams in the top 20 in RPI (No. 5 TCU, No. 8 Colorado, No. 16 Texas Tech, No. 17 Baylor, No. 20 BYU). Kansas has been battle tested this season as 14 of its 22 matches have come against teams that qualified for this year's NCAA Tournament.

Defender Caroline Castans was named to the Big 12 All-Tournament Team for the second straight year. After the regular season concluded, Castans and Lexi Watts were All-Big 12 First Team selections, while Kate Langfelder and Jillian Gregorski were named to the All-Big 12 Second Team.

California Baptist has a record of 12-8-2, including a 6-3-1 mark in the Western Athletic Conference. The Lancers won their conference tournament by defeating Utah Tech and Utah Valley, with both matches going to penalty kicks. Ava Westlund leads the Lancers offensively with nine goals this season, while Mikayla O'Brien has started 19 games this year at goalkeeper, and has tallied 81 saves and recorded six shutouts.

This will be the first matchup against California Baptist in program history.

The winner of the Kansas-California Baptist match will face the winner of No. 6-seeded Louisville and Kentucky on Thursday, Nov. 20 in the second round.

Kansas will host the first round at Rock Chalk Park for the first time since 2019 against California Baptist on Friday, Nov. 14 at 6 p.m. CT. The match will be broadcast on ESPN+.Kansas is in the NCAA Tournament for the 11th time in school history. The back-to-back NCAA Tournament appearances mark the third time in program history and the first since 2018-19. This will be the seventh time that Kansas has hosted the NCAA Tournament and the No. 3 seed is tied for the highest seed in program history with 2019."I'm proud of this team for earning a three seed," Kansas head coach Nate Lie said. "That's a reflection of the body of work over three months or so. What we just talked about with the team is even more than that, because in order to be successful at the beginning of the year, you need to come in fit, and that was probably three months of hard work in the summer on your own. So to earn a three seed, that's the highest I've ever been placed, is already a great start. We have our work cut out for us, but I have a lot of confidence in this group, and we'll just see how long we can keep playing."Kansas enters the NCAA Tournament with a record of 14-5-3 after advancing to the Big 12 Tournament Championship for the second straight season. The Jayhawks knocked off the number two and three seeds in the first two rounds before falling to BYU in the championship match. Kansas has already surpassed its win total from last season and has its most wins since 2019.The five losses for the Jayhawks this season have all come against teams in the top 20 in RPI (No. 5 TCU, No. 8 Colorado, No. 16 Texas Tech, No. 17 Baylor, No. 20 BYU). Kansas has been battle tested this season as 14 of its 22 matches have come against teams that qualified for this year's NCAA Tournament.Defender Caroline Castans was named to the Big 12 All-Tournament Team for the second straight year. After the regular season concluded, Castans and Lexi Watts were All-Big 12 First Team selections, while Kate Langfelder and Jillian Gregorski were named to the All-Big 12 Second Team.California Baptist has a record of 12-8-2, including a 6-3-1 mark in the Western Athletic Conference. The Lancers won their conference tournament by defeating Utah Tech and Utah Valley, with both matches going to penalty kicks. Ava Westlund leads the Lancers offensively with nine goals this season, while Mikayla O'Brien has started 19 games this year at goalkeeper, and has tallied 81 saves and recorded six shutouts.This will be the first matchup against California Baptist in program history.The winner of the Kansas-California Baptist match will face the winner of No. 6-seeded Louisville and Kentucky on Thursday, Nov. 20 in the second round.

KANSAS CITY, Mo.—The Kansas City Royals announced today they acquired outfielder Kameron Misner (MYZE-ner) from the Tampa Bay Rays for a Player to be Named Later or cash considerations. Misner was designated for assignment by the Rays last week.

Misner, 27, played in 71 games with Tampa Bay in 2025 and hit .213 (42-for-197) with 15 extra-base hits and 8 stolen bases in 217 plate appearances. He made 57 starts, including 42 in center field, 12 in right field and 3 in left field.
