The Hutchinson Community College women's soccer team recovered from slow defensive starts in each half on Saturday to earn a key Jayhawk Conference victory over the Barton Cougars.

The Blue Dragons rallied from two goals down in the first half and scored second-half goals 25 seconds apart break a second-half tie for a 5-3 victory over the Cougars at the Salthawk Soccer Complex.

Hutchinson is over the .500 mark for the first time this season at 6-5-1 (5-2-1 KJCCC). The Blue Dragon open the second half of conference play with a 6 p.m. kickoff against Seward County on Wednesday at the Salthawk Soccer Complex. Barton is now 2-3-6 (0-3-5 KJCCC). The Dragons are 1-0-1 against Barton this season.

Freshman Montunrayo Ojobare had her first career multi-goal game and first career game-winning goal to lead the Blue Dragons. Ojobare has scored goals in three-straight games and has nine points in that span of games.

Sophomore Olivia Tamaki tied a single-game career high of three assists for a career-best five-point game. Tamaki had the assist on Ojobare's game-winning goal in the 76th minute.

Sophomore Isabell Van Fleet extended her goal-scoring streak to five-straight games with her second-half goal. Van Fleet had a three-point game with a first-half assist. Van Fleet now has 16 points (seven goals, 2 assists) in her last five games.

Freshman Ariadna Zwenger had a three-point game with a goal and assist. Sophomore Lucy Bacon was credited with an assist.

Freshman goalkeeper Hanna Helshani improved to 4-2-1 for the season, playing the second half. She allowed one goal, but made three saves. Sophomore Rylee Loague gave up two goals and had one save in the first half.

The Blue Dragons outshot Barton 26-12 overall and 13-7 in shots on goal. The Dragons had six corner kicks to Barton's one and the Dragons had 14 fouls to Barton's six.

Barton scored two goals in the first 20 minutes of the first half to take a 2-0 lead on tallies by Maki Kimura and Ella Swift.

A strong defensive effort from Zwenger set up Hutchinson's first goal, who intercepted a Barton throw-in and then flick a pass to Tamaki, who moved to her right and lobbed a high shot to the right corner of the goal from about 35 yards out to score and cut the Barton lead to 2-1 with 18:28 to play in the first half.

The Blue Dragons then struck quickly late in the first half to tie the game and later take the lead.

First, Bacon played a long pass down the right sideline to Van Fleet, who immediately put a cross into the box that Ojobare headed in to tie the score at 2-2 with 2:01 to play in the half.

Then with 12 seconds remaining in the half, Tamaki played a corner into the right flat to Zwenger, who blistered a shot to score her fourth of the season for a 3-2 Hutchinson lead.

Barton took advantage of a bad Blue Dragon clear from the defensive end and Ana Luisa Gori tied the game with 32:39 to play, knotting the score at 3-3.

The Blue Dragons then took advantage of a Barton foul just outside the penalty box with 14:47 to play. Van Fleet played her free kick right to the foot of Ojobare, who chipped a perfect shot into the right corner from 8 yards out to give the Dragons a 4-3 lead.

Just 25 seconds later, the Dragons got a huge insurance goal. Tamaki took a deflected pass just shy of midfield and drove up the middle. She then passed right to Van Fleet, who patiently drove right and slid a hard rolling shot into the lower right corner of the goal for a 5-3 Hutchinson lead with 14:22 remaining in the game.
