James “Jim” Samuel Adams, 79, of McPherson, KS, and formerly of Wichita, KS, peacefully passed away on Friday, July 28, 2023, surrounded by family at Salina Regional Medical Center.&nbsp; He was a retired plant manager for Spartech Plastics, previously Plains Plastics.

He was born on November 17, 1943, in Ralston, OK, the son of Oral Henry and Sally Jane (Wheeler) Adams.&nbsp; He graduated from high school in Shidler, OK.&nbsp; On December 17, 2004, Jim was united in marriage to Helen Louise Martin in Wichita. KS.

Jim was a United States &nbsp;Army veteran, serving as a paratrooper in the 101st&nbsp;Airborne Division.&nbsp; He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, McPherson.

In his spare time, Jim loved playing golf and spent countless hours with his dear friends at McPherson Country Club.&nbsp; &nbsp;

Survivors include: his loving wife, Helen of the home; a daughter, Rebecca “Becka” Leiblie (Joe) of Udall, KS; a son, Brad Adams (Mary) of Derby, KS; siblings, Lillian Murray of Lamar, AR, Ava Blanchard of Adair, OK, Robert “Bud” Adams (Betty) of Udall, KS, Aubry “Leroy” Adams (Janette) of Udall, KS, Nadene Clayton (David) of Indianapolis, IN, Darlene Sullivan (Mark) of Indianapolis, IN, and Patricia McElhany (John Everhart) of Indianapolis, IN; four grandchildren, Mitcheal Adams (Emily), Melayna Adams, Derek Leiblie, and Whitney Leiblie; three great-grandchildren, Mia Adams, Cole Adams, and Cade Adams; and many extended family members and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents and siblings, Eileen Hopkins, Iva Sory, and Violet Adams.

A Rosary will begin at 10:00 AM, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 AM, on Tuesday, August 8, 2023, at St. Joseph Catholic Church, McPherson, with Fr. Benjamin Shockey officiating.&nbsp; The final resting place will be at the Resurrection Cemetery, Wichita, KS, at 2:00 PM.&nbsp; Military Honors provided by Kansas Army National Guard.

Ray Edwin Bontrager, 86, passed away on Sunday, July 30, 2023, in Haven, Kansas. Ray was born October 7, 1936, to Jerry and Edna Bontrager in Hutchinson, Kansas.

Ray attended Haven High School and Hesston Academy graduating in 1954, and then attended Hesston College. He was married to Carol Martin at her home near Wellman, Iowa in 1958. Ray began his married life in I-W Service at Evanston Hospital, Evanston, Illinois. He then began his lifetime career as a farmer in Iowa and in 1967 returned to Yoder, Kansas, to farm his family homestead. He farmed and raised livestock for 38 years. He received numerous farming awards. He owned and operated R &amp; C Feed Service during the 1970’s. He served terms on the Yoder Township Board, Farmer’s State Bank Board and the Equus Beds Aquifer Board. During these years, he was a member of the South Hutchinson Mennonite Church.

In retirement, Ray drove school bus for the Haven School District for ten years so that he could transport his grandchildren to school. His hobbies include collecting antiques, tools and restoring old toys. He could fix anything. He loved spending time with his children and grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his father, mother and brother Glen Marlin.

Ray is survived by: his wife; three children, Lucinda (Bob) Schooks, Ellenton, FL, Kristin Morris, South Hutchinson, KS, and Robert (Leslie) Bontrager, Nickerson, KS; grandchildren, Jesse (Annika) Morris, Winfield, KS, Emilee (Julie) Wilke, Winfield, KS, Tyler (Shanley) Morris, Wichita, KS, Mike Morris, South Hutchinson, KS, and Hannah (Richard) Hawthorne, Great Bend, KS; great-grandchildren, Franklin Morris, Kate Wilke, Ruby Wilke, Bennett Morris, Lillian Morris, Sadie Hawthorne, Ella Hawthorne and Ryker Hawthorne; three sisters, Grace Hershberger, Goshen, Indiana, Lola Faye Erb Yoder, Kalona, Iowa and Donna Mae Martin, Hesston, Kansas.

Jodi Brack-Simmons, 77, of Hutchinson, died July 27, 2023, at Wesley Medical Center, Wichita. She was born October 20, 1945, in Newton, to Charles and Gladine (McClure) Smith.

Jodi graduated from Newton High School in 1963 and later attended Butler Community College. She was an administrative assistant for USD 308 middle schools for many years. Jodi was a volunteer for RSVP and Meals on Wheels and was a volunteer and board member for the Friendshop at the Hutchinson Public Library. She belonged to the Hutchinson Retired School Personnel Association. Jodi enjoyed bowling, bunko, her flower garden, dogs, and loved the color purple. More than anything she loved her family, especially her children and grandchildren. Jodi knew no strangers and welcomed all with a warm heart and open arms. Everyone was drawn to her charisma and larger than life personality. Her smile lifted the darkest spirits and her laugh could thaw the coldest heart.

On May 27, 1967, she married Robert Brack in Hutchinson. They shared 21 years before his passing on July 30, 1988.

Jodi is survived by: daughters, Jerri Brack-Bowman (Bret), Maize, Robin Brack-Zapata, Wichita; grandson, Gavan Brack Zapata, Wichita; granddaughter, Gabrielle Renee Zapata, Las Vegas; brother, Jerry Smith, Newton; and dear friend, Ann Heider, Hutchinson.

She was preceded in death by her parents and husband, Bob Brack.

Celebration of life will be 11 am Saturday, August 5, 2023, at Elliott Mortuary. Burial will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery. Friends may call from 9 am to 8 pm Friday or 9:30 am to 11 am Saturday with family present at Elliott Mortuary. After the burial friends are invited to join the family at 1:30 pm for lunch at Church of the Brethren, 1600 N Severance, Hutchinson. Roma “Dee Dee” Scherer, 85, of Moundridge, Kansas, passed away Tuesday, August 1, 2023 at Pine Village. She was born October 31, 1937 in Goessel, Kansas, the daughter of Carl and Martha (Epp) Schmidt.

Dee Dee was an artist, often painting landscapes. She loved to travel to the Taos and Santa Fe area.

She was united in marriage to James A. “Jim” Scherer on July 20, 1956 in Newton. He preceded her in death on November 5, 2012.

Dee Dee is survived by her daughters, Susan (Roger) Boesker, and Jackie (Randy) Regier of McPherson; four grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; and sister, Vera (Willis) Koehn of Hesston.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; and sister, LaVonne Irva Schmidt.

Andrea Marie Henrich, 61, from Newton, Kansas, passed away on July 28, 2023, surrounded by her family. She was a kind and thoughtful person who touched the lives of many. Though we are saddened that she left us too soon, we take comfort in knowing she is now free from pain. We will always love and miss her until we meet again.

Andrea was born on February 14, 1962, in Los Angeles, California, to Jacqueline and Merle Trail. She graduated in the Class of 1980 from James Campbell High School in Ewa Beach, Hawaii.

Early in life, Andrea met Ron Henrich, who was serving in the U.S. Navy in Bremerton, Washington, and they became life partners. They were married for 42 years, and for 36 of those years, they lived in Newton, Kansas, raising their three children.

Andrea is survived by her loving husband Ron, their pets, and their children Jeremy (son), Amber (Reggie), and Kara (daughters), her nine grandchildren; Jason, Kaine, Drake, ShaeLynn, Trent, Brennan, Jordan, Daxton, Auria and her siblings John, Ken, Craig and Kara.

She is preceded in death by her maternal mother, Jacqueline, and Farrell Grogg, as well as her paternal father, Merle, and Ardyce Trail.

Roy Hunt, 80, of McPherson, KS, passed away Monday, July 31, 2023 at Pleasant View Home, Inman, KS. 

Roy was born in Conway, KS on January 14, 1943, the son of Paul and Rose Hunt. Roy attended Conway and Windom grade school and graduated from Windom High School, Windom, KS in 1961. He attended Monitor Community Church of the Brethren, rural McPherson. 

Through the years Roy worked as a mechanic and farmer in McPherson. 

Roy enjoyed remote control airplanes, loved to visit and spend time with his friends and family. Roy was united in marriage to Judy Buist on January 2, 1988 in Fresno, California. 

He is survived by his loving and devoted wife Judy Hunt, of McPherson, Kansas. Roy was preceded in death by his parents. 

A graveside service will be held on Friday, August 4, 2023 at 10:30 am at Monitor Community Church of the Brethren Cemetery, rural McPherson, Kansas, with Pastor John Hoffman officiating.

Jeffrey was born on June 9, 1967, in Ogden, UT, the son of Glen W. and Jean R. (Kendell) Cummings.&nbsp; He attended Tooele High School in Tooele, UT.&nbsp; On May 6, 2016, Jeffrey was united in marriage to Shilo Marie La Fon in Prineville, OR.&nbsp;

Survivors include: his loving wife, Shilo La Fon of McPherson; six children, Natasha, Spencer, Lillee, Cheyenne, D.J., and SkylaRae; father, Glen Cummings of Utah; mother, Jean Dunn of Tooele, UT; a brother, Dennis Cummings, and a sister, Shawna, both of Tooele, UT; two grandchildren, Jammie and Jasmine; mother-in-law, Machelle Carter of McPherson; and many extended family members and friends.

&nbsp;Larry David Green, 50, passed away Thursday, July 27th, 2023, at Stafford County Hospital. Born February 1, 1973, in Elizabethtown, Kentucky. He was the son of Larry and Joan Elaine Stafford Green. He was a Journeyman press operator at Hutch news and the publisher and editor of The Stafford Courier and The Record. He was married to Valerie D. Reynolds on December 17th, 2009. He is survived by his wife, Valerie Green of Stafford; children, Amber Long (Kyle), Michael Gould (Kayla), Erika Givens (Jay), Andrea Green (Zach), Dylan Green, Emily Green, Erika Green; father, Larry (Eydie) Green; siblings, Sheryl Green of Turon, Homer (Erin) Green of Winfield, Karen (Dennis) Kalmer of Turon; and six grandchildren, Alex, Ayden, Kade, Avery, Jaxon, and Zachary.

David was preceded in death by his mother, Joan Green, brother Mark Green, and sister Holly Green.

He was the son of Larry and Joan Elaine Stafford Green. He was a Journeyman press operator at Hutch news and the publisher and editor of The Stafford Courier and The Record. He was married to Valerie D. Reynolds on December 17th, 2009. Clinton Dean “Cracker” McIlrath, 66, of Kingman, died July 27, 2023, at his home. He was born November 15, 1956, in Kingman, to William and Janis (Wagner) McIlrath.

Clinton graduated from Kingman High School in 1976. He retired as a mechanic, welder, and fabricator. Clinton was the biggest fan of NASCAR.

On February 14, 2001, he married Serena M. Theis, in Kingman. They shared over 22 years of marriage.

Clinton is survived by: his wife, Serena McIlrath of Kingman; daughter, Megan Theis; sons, Matthew (Destiny Milford) Theis, Michael (Harley Osner) Theis; grandchildren, Summer and Roman Theis; sister Kathy (Leroy Reid) McIlrath; sisters-in-law, Barbara Johnson and Anna McIlrath; brother-in-law, Mike Showalter, all of Kingman; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by: his parents; brothers, Clinton’s identical twin Franklin, Charlie Bill, and Larry; and sister, Francie Showalter.

Bob died July 26, 2023, at his home. He was born November 24, 1944, in Caldwell, KS, to Ben and Lucille E. (Williams) Horyna. Bob graduated from Bluff City High School in 1963 and attended Cowley County Community College. He moved to Hutchinson in 1971 and worked at Cooper Tire Service for 34 years, starting in the shop and retiring as a salesman in 2007. Besides deal-making and swap meets (he’d travel near and far for a deal or a swap meet), Bob loved traveling and gardening (well, planting anyway). He enjoyed old cars, NASCAR, and watching his grandson Peyton race. Bob told others “Life is for the living” and he definitely did that. Even after his heart slowed down, he went to his shop every day to putter and to visit with those who stopped by. He was a member of Salt City Cruisers, Campers on Mission, NSRA, and International Ford Retractable Club. Bob attended Countryside Baptist Church.

On July 3, 1965, Bob married Gayle Lynn Swafford at the Bluff City Methodist Church, sharing many wonderful years until her passing on December 13, 2005. Bob found love again and on December 9, 2006, he married Brenda D. (Manwarren) Cousins, who survives him.

Left to cherish his memory are: his daughter, Tammy Burkhart (Brent) of Hutchinson; stepdaughter, Elizabeth Garcia (Ruben) of Port Charlotte, FL; stepson, Ryan Cousins (Priscilla) of Gardner; grandsons, Jeremy Graham (Melissa), Dustin Graham (Hailey), Peyton Burkhart; step-grandchildren, Bella and Braxton Garcia, Ara Cousins; bonus granddaughters, Aelia and Anie Saner; 4 great-grandchildren; brother, Ben Horyna (Cheryl) of Hutchinson; sister, Jane Schaffer (Robert) of Louisburg; sister-in-law, Rhea Horyna of Moscow; and many extended family members.

Junior Lee Janzen, 90, of Hesston passed away Thursday, July 27, 2023, at Pine Village, Moundridge. He was born on Dec. 16, 1932, to Otto and Irma Janzen.

Junior lived in the Goessel area until he and Joyce Albrecht were married and moved to Hesston in 1956, where they lived and raised five children.

He was a member of Kingdom Life Ministries.

Junior was preceded in death by his wife, Joyce; son, Kerry; parents; brothers, Maynard and Stuart Janzen; and sisters, Sharon Weldeghebriel and Delpha Dean Janzen.

He is survived by four children, Kris (Fred) Townsend, McPherson, Keith (Dot) Janzen, McPherson, Kenton (Tyann) Janzen, Brighton, CO, and Kyle (Carolyn) Janzen, Hesston. He is also survived by nine grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren, and his brother, Leon Janzen, Hesston.

In the early morning of July 25, 2023, Lanette Richey, 61, went home to be with the Lord. She was born October 11, 1961, in Long Beach, CA, to William T. “Tom” and Cecilia Arlene (Mendenhall) Richey Sr.

Lanette spent most of her life in Hutchinson. She worked at R.L. Polk for almost 20 years.

The light of Lanette’s life was her 18-year-old son, Noah Anthony Richey. Noah recently returned home after graduating from the Army National Guard.

Lanette is survived by: her son, Noah Richey; mother, Arlene Richey; sister, Suzanne Sims (Greig); brother, Bill Richey (Becky), all of Hutchinson; and several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, great-niece, and great-nephews.

Gary E. “Moe” Soloman, 84, of Olathe, passed away on Thursday, June 29, 2023, with his wife and daughters by his side. He had been a resident at Silverado Memory Care since 2019. &nbsp;Moe was born on November 2, 1938, in Omaha, Nebraska to Edwin and Ellen (Johnson) Soloman.

Moe grew up, in Herington, Kansas where he attended St. Paul Lutheran School and was 1957 graduate of Herington High School. In 1960 he received his bachelor’s degree in business from Kansas State Teachers College (Emporia State University). He also served with the US Army Reserves.

Moe married his wife, Susie, on February 24, 1967.

Moe began working for the Rock Island Railroad as a teenager and continued his Railroad career until his retirement in 2001. He worked for the Rock Island, Cotton Belt, and Union Pacific Railroads during his career. He celebrated his retirement with a family trip to Hawaii in 2001.

Moe enjoyed following all K-State Sporting Events, watching the Kansas City Chiefs, traveling with friends and he also enjoyed shopping for a good bargain.

Moe is survived by his loving wife, Susie Soloman: daughters, Kiffany (Craig) Herrmann and Heather Soloman all of Olathe. Granddaughters, Claire Herrman of Overland Park, and Nicole Herrmann of Olathe.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Edwin and Ellen Soloman.

He was one of few employees on 2nd&nbsp;shift that covered more than one title. He worked as a material handler for several years, as well as a line operator and line prep. He also would be called upon to train new employees for each of these positions.&nbsp;

Dennis was born on Aug. 5, 1962, in Chamberlain, SD, the son of Lewis Lawrance and Janice Louise (Kelley) Embrey. He graduated from McPherson High School in 1980.

Survivors include: his parents, Lewis &amp; Janice Embrey of Lindsborg, KS; a sister, Connie Stark (Claus) of Smithville, MO; a son, Steven Embrey of Schulenburg, TX; a daughter, Megan Valenta (Garrett) of Moundridge, KS; step-children, Brooks Johnson of McPherson, KS, Zach Johnson of McPherson, KS, Chad Richert (Justin Cook) of Kansas City, MO, AshLeigh Brodin of Kansas City, MO, and Sierra Kerbs of Joplin, MO; a niece, Marissa Stark of Lafayette, CO; four grandchildren, Daniel Scott, Gabe Embrey, Nathan Scott, and Zoey Scott; his beloved dogs, Skylar and Riley; and numerous extended family members and friends.

Wallace “Wally/Walt” S. Wren, 80, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, July 25, 2023, at Diversicare of Hutchinson. He was born June 2, 1943, in Springfield, MO, to Ray A. and Lorene E. (Martin) Wren Jr.

On Nov. 1, 1960, Wally joined the United States Navy and was honorably discharged and retired after 30 years of serving our country. He later worked for Zales Jewelry and retired in 2005. Wally enjoyed family gatherings, martial arts, playing the Kansas Lottery and going to the casinos.

Wally is preceded by his parents and a daughter, Kelly Jo Martin.

He is survived by his by two sons, Jay Jazquez and wife, Jennifer, and Michael Wren and wife Misti; a daughter, Sian Jazquez; two sisters, Lynda Penny and husband, Richard and Kay Kissick and husband Jay; 10 grandchildren; 6 great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

Vera Louise Snowden Goss was born Feb. 11, 1935, in Hutchinson to the late Naomi and Charles Snowden. She departed this rich life on July 25, 2023, at the age of 88.

Vera was a graduate of Hutchinson Community College, where she received her Associate of Arts Degree in Nursing Health Sciences. Following college, she utilized her impeccable skills of communication, organization, planning, and caregiving to serve in various capacities, including secretarial, industrial, and private nursing.

What does it mean to have a spirit of giving? That can easily be defined by the life of Veral Louise Snowden Goss… Vera truly encompassed a beautiful spirit of giving, culminating into several service-oriented positions and appointments, including, but by no means limited to, serving as a member of the Silver Leaf Chapter #464 of the Order of the Eastern Star of Kansas and also the NAACP. Her advocacy and commitment to fighting for civil rights led to an appointment of Long-Term Care Ombudsman for the state of Kansas, wherein she tenaciously advocated to protect both the quality of life and quality of care of Kansas residents residing in long-term settings.

And yet even that level of community service could not contain Vera’s embodiment of giving, for she also volunteered at various meal centers and food banks in the Hutchinson area for decades. Up until a few years ago, she likewise served in the Retired Senior Volunteer Program (grandparents program) through the Department of Education at Lincoln Elementary School, though she had no grandchildren in the school system. That is a spirit of giving! In fact, her desire to effectively engage and communicate with students, parents, and her peers even led her to take computer classes at the Elmdale 50+ Community Center.

Vera always embraced life with a welcoming, yet adventurous spirit. Her hobbies included traveling, particularly to wonderful destinations such as Bahamas, Virgin Islands, and Hawaii, enriching her experience of diverse cultures through museum exhibits and activities, and spending time with her casino favorite: the slot machines! And notwithstanding, Vera also loved to embrace the freedom and fluidity of dancing, for hers was a spirit that would not be contained.

Vera was preceded in death by her son, Jerry Donald Goss Jr. As the youngest and last of 8 children, her death she was also preceded by two sisters: Elva Mae Lewis and Mary Alice Snowden; and 5 brothers: Charles Ernest Snowden, George Luther Snowden, Everett Travis Snowden, John Snowden, and Burt Snowden.

She leaves to cherish her memory 3 daughters Cherterel Goss White of Columbia, MD, Michele Goss of Alexandria, VA and Charlesatta Goss Parker of Hutchinson, KS; four grandchildren Rashawn Goss-White of College Park, MD, KeAunte’ White-Lomax of Frederick, MD, Victoria Bryant of Washington, DC and Johnathan Parker of Springfield, VA; two great grandchildren Marquet Clark of the US Navy (Japan) and Lashaun Cole of College Park, MD, and an irreplaceable host of beloved family and friends.

Vera’s spirit will forever live among and within us, and it is with that in mind and in honoring her wishes, no formal memorial services will be held. Instead, in the coming days, weeks, months, and years, look to the open heavens, think of her, and smile.

Per Vera’s request, cremation has taken place. In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to United Way of Reno County, and can be sent in care of Hutchinson Funeral Chapel, 300 E. 30th Ave, Hutchinson, KS 67502. Hutchinson Funeral Chapel has been entrusted with the arrangements.

Barbara Joann Williams, 71, passed away on Monday, July 24, 2023 at Wesley Medical Center, Wichita, KS. She was born January 17, 1952 in Hutchinson, KS to Kenneth and Verna (Strayer) Wingert.

Barb graduated from Hutchinson High School in 1970 and went on to attend business school at Salt City Business College. She worked for the Hutchinson Clinic for many years, and was a well-known fixture in various roles. Barb’s greatest love was for her grandchildren. One of Barb’s favorite activities was line-dancing to country music - especially Alan Jackson! Barb took any opportunity to travel and adored both the mountains and the beach. Barb was not one to sit around, she kept herself busy crocheting afghans for her children and grandchildren, crafting, quilting, walking, cooking for the family, or relaxing with her dog, Myleigh.

Barb was preceded in death by her parents, Kenneth and Verna; sisters, Karen Drassen and Janice Wingert; brother, William Wingert; and brother-in-law Larry Drassen.

She is survived by her three children, Joshua Webb and his wife, Dana, Bryan Webb, and Megan Webb and her fiancé, Dylan Green; two sisters, Cindy Wingert and Teresa Cofer; three grandchildren, Taiden Glenn, Taylor Glenn, and Tage Green; her cherished dog, Myleigh; beloved friend and kidney donor, Donna VanNordstrand; and numerous nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held on Friday, August 18th, 2023 at 3pm at Hutchinson Funeral Chapel, 300 E. 30th Ave, Hutchinson, KS 67502, with Reverend Charles R. Crumble, Sr. officiating. Marilyn Ruth FitzSimmons-Mavity of Cunningham, left us for her rocking chair in heaven during the early morning hours of Sunday, July 23, 2023. 

Marilyn was born on October 20, 1944, to Harold and Vivian (Brady) DeWeese in Kingman. She was raised on her parent’s farm southeast of Cunningham along with her 4 siblings, Dwane (Sue) DeWeese of Pratt, Dale (Janet) DeWeese of Cunningham, Jeanie (Eddie) Tharp of Pratt, and Ruth (Roy) Gamboa also of Pratt.

Marilyn was a 1962 graduate of Cunningham High School and received her master’s in early childhood education from Emporia State University. During her school years, Marilyn fell in love with her first husband, Lynn D. FitzSimmons. Following the wedding, Lynn and Marilyn lived in Pratt for a short time before moving to the FitzSimmons Homestead in eastern Pratt County where they farmed. From Lynn and Marilyn’s marriage came their three children, Dennis (Kristi) FitzSimmons - Pratt; Leann (Robert) Barnes - Pratt; and Barbara (Scott) Glenn of Arcadia, OK. In 1999, Marilyn married her second husband Jay F. Mavity and gained a second son, Mark (Maria) Mavity of Cunningham. In the last decade, Marilyn and Jay adopted a 3rd son, Daniel Shea of Cunningham.

Marilyn was a lifelong Cunningham resident and played many roles throughout her life. From the loving mother and grandmother her family will remember her as, to a prominent businesswoman. Marilyn taught kindergarten in Pratt briefly then ran a preschool out of her home on the farm during the 70’s and 80’s. She continued to hold every single one of her preschoolers dear to her heart. Marilyn was extremely active in the church her whole life, from teaching Sunday school, spearheading vacation bible school for decades, and leading adult bible studies in her later years. Marilyn and her husband Jay founded 4-C Childcare in Cunningham and the Cunningham Hands of Hope food bank ministry. Marilyn and Jay also played an extremely important role in starting the now defunct Civil Air Patrol Squadron at Cunningham High School. Besides her family, Marilyn’s pride and joy was the FitzSimmons Insurance Agency she founded in 1987, on the back porch of the farmhouse. Thirty-five years later, she still ruled it with an iron fist from her recliner, even after passing it on to the next generation. Over the years, Marilyn greatly enjoyed talking with all her customers, adjusters, company reps, and underwriters, with many becoming life-long friends. She took great pleasure in protecting the livelihood of farmers across the state.

Marilyn was proceeded in death by her parents; husbands, Lynn and Jay; her brother, Dale; brother in-law, Eddie Tharp; and beloved furry companions, Albert and Eddie. Survivors include her children and spouses, Dennis, Kristi, Leann, Robert, Barbara, Scott, Mark, Maria, and Dan; and grandchildren, Brandon, Spencer, and Jayden McNerny, Shelby FitzSimmons-Dirks, Kari FitzSimmons, Micheal and Tyler Glenn, and Jon and Jack Shaffer. Marilyn also had two very special great grandchildren, Presley and Stetson Dirks, along with numerous nieces and nephews. Marilyn and her family would also like to mention her special “Crop Insurance Kids” Alan, Kendall, and Gerald whom she worked with for many years.

Visitation will be Friday, July 28, 2023 from 9:00 a.m. - 8:00 p.m. with family present from 5:00 - 7:00 PM at Larrison Mortuary, 300 Country Club Road, Pratt. Billie M. Vetter passed away Saturday July 22, 2023 at Schowalter Villa in Hesston.&nbsp;&nbsp;She had been a resident there for the last 7 years.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Billie was born August 6, 1936&nbsp;&nbsp;to Harry and Agnes Hinton in Newton.&nbsp;&nbsp;She lived in Sedgwick, and graduated from Sedgwick High School in 1954.

On August 28, 1954, Billie married Gerald F. Vetter at St Mary’s Church, Newton.

She is survived by 3 children, Mark (Ann) Vetter, Gerald R (Deanna) Vetter and Kimberly Fiessinger, 11 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren.

She is preceded in death by parents, husband, 2 brothers and 3 sisters.

Billie enjoyed her family, gardening and making peppernuts at Christmas.

Darlene Faith Green was born on July 20, 1936, in the Free Methodist parsonage in Edison, Nebraska five minutes before her sister, Arlene Hope, the twin daughters of John C. and Jennie Green. The girls joined their four older brothers, John, Bob, Carroll, and Clark.&nbsp; Faith grew up in parsonages in Nebraska and Oregon before enrolling at Los Angeles Pacific High School &amp; College, where she met and fell in love with Dean Smidderks, a California boy with whom she shared a love of singing and a deep commitment to the Lord.&nbsp; They were married on June 9, 1955, and moved to Seattle to complete studies at Seattle Pacific College and then on to Wilmore, Kentucky, where Faith worked as a seamstress while Dean completed his seminary degree at Asbury Seminary.

The young couple accepted a pastorate in Yucca Valley, California where their daughters Angie and Jennie were born.&nbsp; During these years, they felt led to serve as missionaries and in 1963, they accepted an appointment to Mozambique. They spent the next two years in language study in Portugal and then sailed to South Africa where they were stationed at Baker Farm Mission while waiting for visas to Mozambique. After learning the Tswa language, Faith taught in the Bible School and assisted with women’s ministries. Faith’s indomitable spirit and great sense of humor were assets during these years on a remote mission station without electricity or safe drinking water. It was here that their third daughter, Kathie, was born. During their first furlough in 1969 in Los Angeles, California, Hendrik joined the family.

After a busy year of deputation, Dean &amp; Faith returned to Witbank, South Africa, where they completed another 5 years of missionary service, with Faith assuming duties of mission bookkeeper.&nbsp; Visas were finally granted while on their second furlough in 1974, and the family returned to Inhamachafo Mission Station in Mozambique in 1975, but civil war soon engulfed the country, forcing them to return to South Africa.

Faith continued to serve alongside Dean in South Africa at Witbank, Carletonville, and Johannesburg, as well as at the Bible Schools in Zimbabwe, Mozambique, and Malawi until their retirement in 1999.&nbsp; Faith added responsibilities of overseeing child sponsorship and served as mission hostess to overseas guests and missionaries.&nbsp; She is fondly remembered by many for her constant supply of cookies and cake and for delicious meals conjured from the most meagre supplies.&nbsp; It was a rare day that guests were not seated around their table or lodged in their guest rooms. All were made to feel at home.

Faith’s love for the African students earned her the nickname of Mamane Wuxinji (Mother Mercy) – a fitting name for her unfailing display of love and compassion.&nbsp; She was also a devoted mother to her four children, who relished her great sense of humor and zest for the adventure that Africa supplied in abundance. She approached every difficulty - from malaria to hyenas - with a positive attitude.

After retiring from the mission field, Dean and Faith pastored the Free Methodist church in Omaha, Nebraska and “retired” a second time to McPherson, Kansas where Faith kept busy with volunteer work at the charity thrift store.&nbsp; After several years of declining health, Faith moved to Pine Village Nursing Home in Moundridge, Kansas, where she endeared herself to the staff with her gentle disposition and love of singing.&nbsp; Faith died on July 24, 2023, just a few days after celebrating her 68th&nbsp;anniversary and 87th&nbsp;birthday.

Faith is survived by her husband, Dean, of McPherson, Kansas; brother, Bob Green of Lawrence; children Angie (Tim) Lancaster and Jennie (Brent) Hall, both of McPherson, Kathie (Malcolm) Vaughan of St. Joseph, Missouri, and Hendrik (Kaylene) Smidderks of Wichita;&nbsp; by grandchildren Desiree Harris, Timothy Lancaster, Sharon Lancaster, Lisa Yoder, David Hall, Amy Corona, Trevor Vaughan, Erin Blair and Linnea Smidderks; by 12 great-grandchildren, and many Green and Smidderks nieces and nephews.

The family will receive visitors from 6-7:30 p.m. on Friday, September 8th at the McPherson Free Methodist Church parlor, and a memorial service will be held at the McPherson Free Methodist Church on Saturday, September 9th at 10:30 a.m.

Faith’s indomitable spirit and great sense of humor were assets during these years on a remote mission station without electricity or safe drinking water. It was here that their third daughter, Kathie, was born. During their first furlough in 1969 in Los Angeles, California, Hendrik joined the family.After a busy year of deputation, Dean &amp; Faith returned to Witbank, South Africa, where they completed another 5 years of missionary service, with Faith assuming duties of mission bookkeeper.&nbsp; Visas were finally granted while on their second furlough in 1974, and the family returned to Inhamachafo Mission Station in Mozambique in 1975, but civil war soon engulfed the country, forcing them to return to South Africa.Faith continued to serve alongside Dean in South Africa at Witbank, Carletonville, and Johannesburg, as well as at the Bible Schools in Zimbabwe, Mozambique, and Malawi until their retirement in 1999.&nbsp; Faith added responsibilities of overseeing child sponsorship and served as mission hostess to overseas guests and missionaries.&nbsp; She is fondly remembered by many for her constant supply of cookies and cake and for delicious meals conjured from the most meagre supplies.&nbsp; It was a rare day that guests were not seated around their table or lodged in their guest rooms. All were made to feel at home.Faith’s love for the African students earned her the nickname of Mamane Wuxinji (Mother Mercy) – a fitting name for her unfailing display of love and compassion.&nbsp; She was also a devoted mother to her four children, who relished her great sense of humor and zest for the adventure that Africa supplied in abundance. She approached every difficulty - from malaria to hyenas - with a positive attitude.After retiring from the mission field, Dean and Faith pastored the Free Methodist church in Omaha, Nebraska and “retired” a second time to McPherson, Kansas where Faith kept busy with volunteer work at the charity thrift store.&nbsp; After several years of declining health, Faith moved to Pine Village Nursing Home in Moundridge, Kansas, where she endeared herself to the staff with her gentle disposition and love of singing.&nbsp; Faith died on July 24, 2023, just a few days after celebrating her 68th&nbsp;anniversary and 87th&nbsp;birthday.Faith is survived by her husband, Dean, of McPherson, Kansas; brother, Bob Green of Lawrence; children Angie (Tim) Lancaster and Jennie (Brent) Hall, both of McPherson, Kathie (Malcolm) Vaughan of St. Joseph, Missouri, and Hendrik (Kaylene) Smidderks of Wichita;&nbsp; by grandchildren Desiree Harris, Timothy Lancaster, Sharon Lancaster, Lisa Yoder, David Hall, Amy Corona, Trevor Vaughan, Erin Blair and Linnea Smidderks; by 12 great-grandchildren, and many Green and Smidderks nieces and nephews.The family will receive visitors from 6-7:30 p.m. on Friday, September 8th at the McPherson Free Methodist Church parlor, and a memorial service will be held at the McPherson Free Methodist Church on Saturday, September 9th at 10:30 a.m.

Benjamin Lee “Benji” Cunningham, 38, of Marquette passed away Sunday, July 23, 2023 at home.  Benji was born March 13, 1985 in Bethany, OK. He was lovingly adopted by Richard Lee and Beth Ann (Sutter) Cunningham.  

He served in the Iraq War as a member of the United States Marine Corps. He worked as a welder for Great Plains Manufacturing CE Division in Salina.  Benji was an avid disc golf player. He enjoyed fishing, camping, gardening, and was a general outdoorsman.

He is survived by; his parents: Rich and Beth Cunningham of Salina; sister: Elaine Becker (Jason) of Salina; as well as numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, and extended family members.  

Benji was preceded in death by his infant sister: Sharon Beth Cunningham.



The funeral will be held 10:30 am on Monday, July 31 at Crick-Christians Funeral Home, 103 N. Washington, Lindsborg, with Pastors Doug McHenry and Jonathan Sutter officiating.  

Burial will be in Gypsum Hill Cemetery, Salina following the funeral service. A reception will follow the burial at the Taylor’s Twirlers Studio, at the Central Mall, Salina. Guests may use the northeast entrance.

Douglas was born in Sandy Level, Virginia on January 2, 1946, the son of Dorothy Lee Scales. Doug attended Hillside Elementary School, Mount Laurel, New Jersey and Medford High School, Medford, New Jersey. He then attended Salina Technical School, Salina, Kansas. He served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War. Douglas was united in marriage to Caryl Rosalind (Winter) Wedel on January 31, 1980 at the First United Methodist Church in McPherson, Kansas. Through the years, Doug worked for several mobile home manufacturers in Junction City, Kansas, worked for Kit Manufacturing, Kansas Jack as Senior Layout Draftsman, Wilson Construction and Engineers in Salina as a draftsman, Cargill Nutrina Feeds, Conway Elevator for W.R. Milling Company, and retired in 2010 from the National Cooperative Refinery Association as a number 1 operator. Doug was a member of the Kansas Muzzle Loading Association. He enjoyed rock and roll music, sewing, quilting, cooking and digitizing. He also enjoyed hunting, fishing and building guns. He is survived by his wife, Caryl; son, Erik Scales of Scottsdale, Arizona; step-son, Joseph Wedel of McPherson, Kansas; grandchildren, Krysta Wedel and Shawn Wedel; sister, Patricia Vaughn of Dublin, Virginia; and brothers, John Pete Turner of Roanoke, Virginia and Issiah Hockett of New Jersey. Donna Louise Simpson, 69, passed away July 23, 2023. She was born in Hutchinson, September 19, 1953. Donna is survived by her loving husband, Jerry Simpson, of 43 years, her daughter, Misty (James) Hernandez, brother, Junior Bieghler, sister, Clara Bieghler, grandson, Justise Jones, and granddaughters, Hannah and Madalynn Hernandez.&nbsp; She was preceded in death by her parents, Clarence and Nellie (McRae) Bieghler, and sister, Stella Powers.&nbsp; Donna was a hardworking and compassionate person. A lifelong resident of Hutchinson, she worked the production line at Tysons and retired after 43 years. She loved spending time with her family, and pursuing her hobbies. Juan Manuel Burciaga-Rodriguez, 69 passed away at home July 18, 2023. He was born March 8, 1954 in Morieleno, Chihuahua Mexico to Cruz Burciaga and Exiquia Arrieta Rodriguez.

He had a large loving family that consisted of his wife, Cheri (Lewis) who preceded him in death; his twin sister Juana Burciaga-Rodriguez; other siblings, Rafael Burciaga-Rodriguez, Celestino Burciaga-Rodriguez, Alejandra Burciaga-Rodriguez, Aureliza Burciaga-Rodriguez, Clara Maria Burciaga-Rodriguez and Rosa Burciaga-Rodriguez; 35 nieces and nephews and numerous other family members.

Juan had a lifelong passion for baseball who was a talented Minor league baseball player. &nbsp;He enjoyed spending time with his great friends. He profoundly missed being able to spend more time with his family.

He retired from the City of Hutchinson where he worked 31 years.&nbsp;

Juan was a very hard working, generous, amazing man who will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

Robert Osborn, 66, passed away July 18, 2023, surrounded by family. He was born in Kinsley, December 30, 1956. He graduated from Buhler High School in 1975. He found his way to Wray &amp; Sons Roofing, where he was a loyal worker for 35 years.&nbsp; On April 5, 1996, he married the love of his life Peggy Osborn. They have been together for 33 years.&nbsp; Robert enjoyed time with his wife, NASCAR, quiet evenings on the patio, woodworking, and time with his grandkids. His fondest memory was spending time and laughing with his wife, Peggy.&nbsp; Robert's proudest family moment was watching his grandkids grow up through pictures and in person. His greatest accomplishment was the work he did to his house after they moved in. He enjoyed Church, home, Colorado, planting flowers, and his dog, Princess.&nbsp; Robert would like to be remembered most for "hoping that sometime in life I might have said something good that changed a persons life for the good, and that they all will believe in The Lord Jesus Christ."
