Daton E. Wedel, 98, of Goessel, Kansas, passed away Friday, November 24, 2023 at Bethesda Home. He was born December 9, 1924 in rural Galva, Kansas, the son of Fred C. and Ida Edith (Koehn) Wedel.
He was a lifelong small grain and hay farmer and had a cattle and hog feeding operation. He also worked for over 25 years at Hesston Corporation (AGCO) as a machinist to supplement his farm income.
Daton was united in marriage to Verda Ethel Boese on October 29, 1946. She preceded him in death on April 20, 2008.
He was a member of the Goessel Church, where he was active as Deacon, Trustee and Sunday School. He also used to be involved with Emmanuel Mennonite Church, rural Moundridge.
Daton is survived by his children, Fred (Brenda) Wedel of Burlington, CO, Jennalee (Dennis) Boggs of Hutchinson, KS, Jan (Jerry) Voth of Hesston, KS, and Leslie (Terri) Wedel of Goessel, KS; twelve grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; and three sisters, Ella, Marie, and Bertha.
Graveside services will be held at 10 a.m., Saturday, December 2, 2023 at Goessel Mennonite Church Cemetery. A celebration of Daton’s life will follow at 11 a.m., Saturday at Goessel Church. Family will greet friends from 6 to 7:30 p.m., Friday, December 1 at Bethesda Home.
