James Franklin (Jim) Gosnell, of Warrensburg, Missouri, formerly of Blairstown, Iowa, died Monday, November 7, 2022, at the Warrensburg Veterans Home. A graveside service will take place Saturday, November 19th at 11:00 a.m. at the Pleasant Hill Cemetery, Blairstown, Iowa.&nbsp; The family will host a celebration of life gathering beginning at 12:00 noon at the American Legion Hall in Belle Plaine, Iowa.

Jim was born June 4, 1941, in Scottsbluff, Nebraska to James and Alma Margaret (Peggy) Gosnell. He was united in marriage to Beverly Karen Boyer on December 31, 1964, in Unionville, Iowa. The Gosnells spent 48 years in Blairstown, Iowa before moving to Ankeny in August of 2020, then Jim moved to Missouri following Karen's death in January 2021. Jim was a Radarange Inspector for Amana Refrigeration and a long-time member of the Marengo Church of the Nazarene. Jim is survived by his daughters, Vonita (Michael) Hill of Eureka, Missouri and Tammy (James) Gauer of Olathe, Kansas; son, Nicholas (Pamela) Gosnell of Inman, Kansas; ten grandchildren and four great-grandchildren; a sister, Carol Simmons, along with numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Karen; his brother, Bill; and his brother-in-law, Norman M. Simmons, Sr. Though dementia made his final years difficult, he had a love for talking about heaven in his lucid moments that gives us no doubt that his hope resided there. He loved Jesus and believed that he is the one and only way to true eternal joy. What a day of rejoicing it is for us to know he is where he always wanted to be. We want everyone who reads this to join him.

Eldon Lee Belote, 83, of Nickerson, died November 9, 2022, at his home. He was born April 14, 1939, in Sylvia, to Harold I. and Edna E. (Dunn) Belote.

Eldon attended Sterling High School. He worked as a refrigeration air-conditioning technician at KDOT for 33 years. A hard worker, Eldon also worked at McQueen Auto Salvage and did some farming, but was most passionate about auto body repair. He was a member of Fairview United Methodist Church.

Eldon is survived by: his companion, Grace Hockett of Hutchinson; children, Cherl Blanton of Stafford, Delois Marler (Rob) of Newton, Cindy Ragsdale (Jim) of Hutchinson, Donald Belote (Teresa) of Lyons, Rex Belote (Tammy), Lonnie Belote (Dainta), Eldon Belote II, all of Hutchinson; brothers, Wesley Belote of Wichita, Larry Belote of Sylvia; numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and many extended family members.

He was preceded in death by: his parents; brothers, Lloyd and Harold; and a granddaughter, Mackenzie Belote.

Donald Dean Rounds of McPherson, died Tuesday, November 8, 2022, at McPherson Hospital at the age of 95.&nbsp;

Donald was born on October 4, 1927, at 703 Walnut, Enid, Oklahoma. He was the first child of Jasper William Rounds and Hazel Marie (Smith) Rounds.&nbsp;

The family moved to Blackwell, Oklahoma when Donald was nine months old.&nbsp; He attended the first four grades of school at Lincoln.&nbsp; The family moved to McPherson, Kansas in 1938.&nbsp; Donald finished the fifth grade at Washington Elementary School and sixth grade at Roosevelt School.&nbsp; He attended Park Junior High and one year at McPherson High School.&nbsp; He graduated from Central College Academy in 1945, where he played basketball and softball.&nbsp; It was at this time, he started using the name Don, much to the displeasure of his father.

World War II was coming to a close so to avoid the draft, Don talked his parents into signing papers so he could enlist in the Navy.&nbsp; Four weeks into boot camp, Don had the opportunity to transfer to the Seabee Branch of the Navy.&nbsp; He was stationed on Samara Island in the Philippines for nine months.&nbsp; He was honorably discharged in 1946 as a Motor Machinist Mate 3rd&nbsp;Class.

Don completed Associate Degree at Central College in McPherson, in 1948.&nbsp; He played basketball and baseball while in college.

Don married his high school sweetheart, Joyce Alene Meyer.&nbsp; They were married at Cole Memorial Free Methodist Church in Kansas City, on July 1, 1947.&nbsp; The couple was blessed with three sons; Michael Dean, Bradley Kent, and Brett Kelly. Joyce preceded Don in death on July 21, 1987.

Don worked as Assistant County Engineer and retired from National Cooperative Refinery Association as Products Pipeline and Terminal Superintendent, after 30 years of service.&nbsp; The family moved from McPherson, KS in 1960 for Don’s employment with NCRA.&nbsp; Don moved back to McPherson in 1990 to be close to his family, church friends, and college friends.

On October 17, 1991, Don was united in marriage to Neva F. (Duncan) McCormick, in McPherson.&nbsp; They enjoyed married life together for 23 years.&nbsp; She preceded him in death on April 6, 2014.

He is survived by his son, Kelly (Linda) Rounds of McPherson; four grandchildren, Wayne (Brittany) Rounds, Kenny (Stacey) Rounds, Lacee Green, and Kim Robinson; two step-grandchildren, Christy (Erik) Velazquez and Cameron (Carol) Crick; seven great-grandchildren; six step-great-grandchildren; and many extended family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wives, a brother, Bob Rounds, two sisters, Elsie Landess and Wanda Wash; two sons, Michael Dean Rounds and Bradley Kent Rounds.&nbsp;

Alvin Huxman passed away November 8, 2022.&nbsp;

He is preceded in death by his parents, Albert and Lydia; his six siblings: Milton, Victor, Irene, Marvin, Millie and Dale; his son Wayne; and his great-granddaughter Lyra.

His survived by his wife Arlene; brother-in-law, Merlin (Laverta Moody) Krehbiel; sisters-in-law, Letha Warkentin and Bessie Huxman; children Marilyn (Leon) Regier, Alan (Patty) Huxman and Dean Huxman; grandchildren: AJ Regier, Matthew (Joanna) Regier, Andrew (Carolyn) Regier, Lucas Regier, and Kate (Andrew Corrubia) Huxman; great-grandchildren: Alyssa, Micah, Anna, Caden, Megan, Lizzie, Abby, Luke, Kayleigh, and Simon.

Alvin was born on March 31, 1929 and grew up working on the family farm west of Pretty Prairie and helping neighboring farmers. He graduated from Pretty Prairie High School in 1948.&nbsp;&nbsp;

On November 7th, 1951, Alvin joined the Army and served in the Korean Conflict as a member of the Prisoner of War Command at the Kojedo prison camp. He was honorably discharged on October 28th, 1953.

Returning home, Alvin took a job for Santa Fe shops in Wichita, where he met and married Arlene Kaufman (Krehbiel) on July 16, 1956. Together they raised four children.&nbsp;

In 1962, the family moved to Topeka, where Alvin finished 37 years as a carman for the Santa Fe Railroad. Upon retirement, Alvin and Arlene returned to Pretty Prairie in 1994 where they were active in the community as well as the Pretty Prairie 1st Mennonite Church where they were members. Alvin and Arlene also delivered meals for the Senior Center.

Alvin was an expert welder and enjoyed carpentry and engineering creative solutions for his garage. His family remembers his sharp pool skills, his love of cars, his harmonica collection, and his wry sense of humor.

Memorials may be made with Mennonite Friendship Communities in care of Livingston Funeral Home.

Rosalyn ‘Rose’ Mae Diasio was born Monday, October 7, 1935, in Buhler, to Albert Warkentin and Thelma (Froese) Warkentin.&nbsp; She passed away into the arms of her Father in heaven on Saturday, November 5, 2022.

Rose grew up on a farm outside of Buhler, KS, with her Mom and Dad, Albert and Thelma Warkentin, and her older brother, Gene, and younger sister, Betty Joyce.&nbsp; It was a hard life, but a good life.&nbsp; After graduating from Buhler High School, she met and married her first husband, Dick Mills, and together her first son, James Richard, was born.&nbsp; When that marriage dissolved, Rose married her second husband, Robert Diasio, to whom two sons were born, Robert Jr., and David.&nbsp; After that marriage came to an end, she packed up her three boys and moved back to Kansas from Texas.&nbsp; These setbacks did not deter Rose from following her drams.&nbsp; She went to Salt City Business College, worked part-time at the airport, all while raising her three boys.&nbsp; After graduation, Rose landed a job at what is now known as J&amp;J Drainage Products Company, Hutchinson, where she worked 33 years until retiring at the age of 65 in 2000.&nbsp; She was an avid reader of romance novels, but her favorite book was The Bible.&nbsp; Rose also loved watching Nascar and Kansas City Chiefs football games.&nbsp; Most of all, she loved her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.&nbsp; Whenever they would visit, her world would light up.&nbsp; Rose, Mom, and Grammy will be missed greatly, but we will carry on her love, light, and legacy!

She is survived by: her three sons, Jim Mills and Bob Diasio of Hutchinson, and David (Marcia) Diasio of Sterling; grandchildren, Teea (Tony) Wilson, Cody Mills, Ryan Diasio, Colton Mills, and Danielle (Ryan) Mitchell; great-grandchildren (who were the lights of her life), Chauntea Grissom, Lillyona and Cillian Mills, Jaiden and Easton Diasio, Taliyah Wilson, and Rhett and Maddox Mitchell; sister, Betty Joyce (Larry) Krehbiel; sister-in-law, Betty Warkentin; numerous nieces and nephews; and special family friends, Annette Morgan, Kelly Hartley, Sarah Smith, and Brian Fitzgerald.

Rose was preceded in death by:&nbsp; her parents, Albert and Thelma Warkentin; brother, Gene Warkentin; and nephew, Steve Warkentin.

Rosalyn ‘Rose’ Mae Diasio was born Monday, October 7, 1935, in Buhler, to Albert Warkentin and Thelma (Froese) Warkentin.&nbsp; She passed away into the arms of her Father in heaven on Saturday, November 5, 2022.Rose grew up on a farm outside of Buhler, KS, with her Mom and Dad, Albert and Thelma Warkentin, and her older brother, Gene, and younger sister, Betty Joyce.&nbsp; It was a hard life, but a good life.&nbsp; After graduating from Buhler High School, she met and married her first husband, Dick Mills, and together her first son, James Richard, was born.&nbsp; When that marriage dissolved, Rose married her second husband, Robert Diasio, to whom two sons were born, Robert Jr., and David.&nbsp; After that marriage came to an end, she packed up her three boys and moved back to Kansas from Texas.&nbsp; These setbacks did not deter Rose from following her drams.&nbsp; She went to Salt City Business College, worked part-time at the airport, all while raising her three boys.&nbsp; After graduation, Rose landed a job at what is now known as J&amp;J Drainage Products Company, Hutchinson, where she worked 33 years until retiring at the age of 65 in 2000.&nbsp; She was an avid reader of romance novels, but her favorite book was The Bible.&nbsp; Rose also loved watching Nascar and Kansas City Chiefs football games.&nbsp; Most of all, she loved her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.&nbsp; Whenever they would visit, her world would light up.&nbsp; Rose, Mom, and Grammy will be missed greatly, but we will carry on her love, light, and legacy!She is survived by: her three sons, Jim Mills and Bob Diasio of Hutchinson, and David (Marcia) Diasio of Sterling; grandchildren, Teea (Tony) Wilson, Cody Mills, Ryan Diasio, Colton Mills, and Danielle (Ryan) Mitchell; great-grandchildren (who were the lights of her life), Chauntea Grissom, Lillyona and Cillian Mills, Jaiden and Easton Diasio, Taliyah Wilson, and Rhett and Maddox Mitchell; sister, Betty Joyce (Larry) Krehbiel; sister-in-law, Betty Warkentin; numerous nieces and nephews; and special family friends, Annette Morgan, Kelly Hartley, Sarah Smith, and Brian Fitzgerald.Rose was preceded in death by:&nbsp; her parents, Albert and Thelma Warkentin; brother, Gene Warkentin; and nephew, Steve Warkentin.Funeral service will be 10 a.m. Saturday, November 12, 2022, at Elliott Mortuary, with the Reverend John Chastain officiating.&nbsp; Burial will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery, Hutchinson.&nbsp; Friends may call from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Friday, November 11, 2022, with the family present from 5 to 7 p.m at Elliott Mortuary.&nbsp; The service can be viewed by going to Rose’s obituary on the Elliott Mortuary website and selecting the ‘Click here to view the funeral service’ link.<a href="https://view.oneroomstreaming.com/index.php?data=MTY2ODAzMTIzMjIxODIzNCZvbmVyb29tLWFkbWluJmNvcHlfbGluaw==">Click here to view the funeral service.</a>

Mary Ann Yahnke, 78, died November 5, 2022, in Kingman County.&nbsp; She was born June 8, 1944, on the Naval Base in Oakland, CA, to John William and Hazel (Richardson) Whomans.

Mary Ann graduated from Kingman High School in 1962, and Adela Hale School of Business in 1963.&nbsp; She worked at Farmarco as a bookkeeper and a variety of other jobs before retiring.&nbsp; Mary Ann enjoyed gardening, especially working in her flower beds.&nbsp; She was also quite creative making numerous items by hand. Mary Ann would spend countless hours crocheting, quilting, knitting, wheat weaving, and working on stained glass.&nbsp; She was a member of the Norwich Christian Church, where she enjoyed the ladies’ groups as well as all the fellowship and support the church provided to her. &nbsp;

Mary Ann is survived by:&nbsp; her sons, Troy Ruebke (Joni) of Manhattan and Brent Ruebke (Peggy) of Nickerson; brother, Robert Whomans (Mary Ann) of Newton; sisters, Marjorie Keezer of Newton and Joyce Lancaster (Nelson) of Hutchinson; grandchildren, Faith Ruebke of Hesston, Samuel Ruebke of Medora, Chris Schrag of Wichita, Sarah Bell (Tanner) of Hutchinson, Jake Wolfe of Nickerson, Grant Steffes of Manhattan, and Jacob Steffes of Frankfort; two great-granddaughters, Leia and Ellie; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Bruce L. Caudillo, 52, of Hutchinson, died November 5, 2022, at Wesley Medical Center, Wichita. He was born September 6, 1970 in Hutchinson, to Ben and Linda (Guthrie) Caudillo.

Bruce graduated from Hutchinson High School, Hutchinson, in 1990. While in high school, he participated in football and boxing.

He was a member of Moose Lodge #982. Bruce was a passionate Chiefs and KU fan. His family remembers him as a gentle giant. He enjoyed people and was often lost at events, only to be found talking to people and giving hugs.

Bruce is survived by: parents, Ben and Linda Caudillo, Hutchinson; sister, Leticia Caudillo, Hutchinson; niece, Erica Caudillo, Wichita; paternal grandmother, Rachel Caudillo, Hutchinson; girlfriend, Chrystal Stapleton, Hutchinson; beloved chiweenie, Little Bit; two great nieces, nephews, and several aunts and uncles.

Leo L. Holmes, 96, of Hesston, passed away Tuesday, November 8, 2022 at his home. He was born on November 23, 1925 in Hanston, the son of Elmer M. and Flora Mae (Goller) Holmes. He graduated from Hanston High School with the class of 1944. Leo later received his Aviation Management degree from Denver University. He also later obtained his private pilot's license and FAA Airline and Engine Mechanic license. Leo served in the United States Army in central Europe during WWII from 1944-1946, attaining the rank of Corporal. He was united in marriage to Carolyn Marita Heald on February 21, 1953 at the First United Methodist Church in Wichita, Kansas. He worked as a technical writer for Aviation &amp; Farm Equipment. Leo later worked for Boeing for 17 years, where he was involved with modifications to Air Force One and Air Force Two. He was employed for 12 years at Hesston Corporation, and from 1970-1973, Leo owned and operated Holmes Dodge and Implement in Burwell, Nebraska. He was a member of the Hesston Kiwanis Club where he served as President and received distinguished Presidents Award with Honors. Leo was also a member of the Hesston United Methodist Church. Leo and Carolyn were instrumental in getting the Hesston Senior Center started. Leo is survived by his wife, Carolyn of the home; daughter, Marita Jo (Brent) Steckly of Beaver Crossing, NE; three sons, L. Monte (Monica) Holmes of Goshen, IN, Marshall (Renee) Holmes of Hesston; and Mitchell (Michelle) Holmes of St. John; 16 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; brother-in-law, Rex Heald;&nbsp;.brothers Merrill D. Holmes and Verly H. (Doc) Holmes and sister Irene Holmes Harper. &nbsp;Dale Arthur Schamle was born November 24th, 1934, in Vassar, to Charles J. Schamle and Julia K. (Fawl) Schamle. He passed away Thursday, November 3rd, 2022, in Hutchinson.

Dale was raised and attended school in the Ottawa, area, helping his father on the family farm before and after school. He met the love of his life, K. Darlene Hoffman, in Ottawa, and they were married on February 5th, 1955, in Sacred Heart Catholic Church.

Dale became an over-the-road truck drive for Grave’s Truck Line, retiring after 35 years of service, and millions of miles logged. He was recognized numerous times for his accident-free driving record during his years behind the wheel.

After his retirement, Dale worked for Holy Cross Catholic School in Hutchinson, Kansas, as a maintenance man, where he developed friendships with both the staff and the children, who loved to see “Mr. Schamle!” He also enjoyed mowing lawns for several years and was a whiz on his riding mower.

Dale’s interests and hobbies were many, but he enjoyed spending time with family the most. He and Darlene loved to travel and took the family on many vacation trips. He began a family tradition of campouts at Pamona Lake, where the entire family, including aunts, uncles, cousins, and assorted friends would gather for camping, skiing, laughing, and making memories. Many great stories about these campouts still circulate when the cousins are together.

Dale and Darlene enjoyed traveling in their motorhome, discovering many beautiful and interesting places during their marriage. A caravan trip through Canada and on to Alaska was one of Dale’s fondest memories, resulting in new friendships that endure to this day.

Dale was a long-time member of Holy Cross Catholic Church, forging many friendships through the church. One of his greatest memories was a group trip to the Holy Land in 2016, accompanied by his son Douglas, and daughter-in-law Martha. It was the trip of a lifetime for him.

Dale passed along his love of woodworking, as well as his appreciation of classic cars, to his sons and grandsons. He was always content to spend hours in his woodshop or his garage, working on a new project.

Dale is survived by his children and grandchildren; Douglas Schamle (Martha), their children Weston, Denise, and Darren; Cathy McMurphy (Doug), their children Steve, Connie, Rachel, and Rex; and John Schamle (Jody), their sons Michael and Jayden. He is also survived by 27 great-grandchildren, 1 great-great-granddaughter, his sister Darlene Cook (Cecil), and numerous nieces and nephews. He is also survived by the world’s best cat, Elvis.

He was welcomed into heaven by his parents, Charles J and Julie Schamle; his beloved wife, Darlene; his brothers and sisters-in-law, Charles and Patricia Schamle, Donald and Phyllis Schamle.

Services are scheduled for Saturday, November 12th, 2022, at Holy Cross Catholic Church, Hutchinson. The Rosary will be at 9:30 A.M., followed by mass at 10:00.

Marian Helen Lipe, 94, entered the Gates of Glory on November 6, 2022, at Sunshine Meadows Retirement Community, &nbsp;Buhler.&nbsp; She was born September 10, 1928, in rural Inman, to John and Marie (Thiesen) Pauls.

Marian graduated from Inman High School. She was an avid pianist and singer throughout her life, the secretary of the Golden Belt Community Concert Association for numerous years, a long-standing member of the Parnasses Club, the Central Baptist Church choir director, volunteered at the Great Bend food bank as well as the Kansas State Fair.&nbsp; Marian was the church secretary for First Southern Baptist Church for 20 years and Mitchell United Methodist Church for 10 years, retiring at 87 years of age.&nbsp; From the Hutchinson News in April 2016: Marian discovered something she never expected while working for the house of God. “What I remember most about starting to work is, we have five children, so I was somebody’s mom, I was somebody’s wife.&nbsp; Then I became my own person- and I like it.”

On February 7, 1947, Marian married Raymond C. Lipe, in Inman.&nbsp; They celebrated 59 years of marriage before he passed in 2006.

Marian’s joyous heavenly homecoming party consists of: the recent passing of her son, Gary; her daughter and son-in-law , Sharolyn and Duane Meyeres; husband, Raymond; her parents; sister and brother-in-law, Viola and Harry Bettin; brother and sister-in-law, Harold and Mildred Pauls; along with nephews, other family members and countless friends.&nbsp; WE are certain that it was a joyous event.&nbsp; We are certain that her daughter Sharolyn made it extra extravagant.&nbsp; And most importantly, Jesus was at the head of the line welcoming her home.

Collins, CO; son, Richard (Lisa) Lipe of Hutchinson; daughter, Carol (Sean) Dennis of Grand Lake, CO; grandson, Douglas Lipe of Merriam; granddaughter, Jordyn (Joshua) Kelly and a great-granddaughter, who is due in December, of Dunn, NC; step-grandchildren, Amanda and Brian Dennis; sister-in-law, Shirley Hinkel-Pauls; surrogate daughter, Debbie Barry; and many extended family members and friends.

Fred’s life began on March 10, 1935, in White City. He is the son of Fred and Orlena (Kohls) Herpich. 

 Fred is a graduate of Woodbine High School and served his country in the United States Army Reserve before returning home to help on the family farm.  Fred was a lifelong farmer in the area and also ran a carpentry crew for many years.  He was an avid car collector and enjoyed his coffee group at the Hitching Post. He was a member of Faith Lutheran Church in Abilene.  Fred was united in marriage to his wife of 64 years, Gladys Hamilton on January 2, 1958, in Oklahoma. 

 He is survived by his wife Gladys of Abilene; daughter Jennifer (Joel) Phillips of Florida; grandchildren Ashley Johnson of Emporia, Hanna Phillips of Florida, and Haley Phillips of Virginia; great grandchildren Briley or Gauge Johnson and his sister Alvera Waymeyer of Topeka.  Fred passed away at his home on Monday November 7, 2022.  He is preceded in death by his parents, son Rick Herpich, infant daughter of Nancy Herpich, and sister Florence Steely.

Mary Jane Pickering, 68, passed away Monday November 7, 2022 at her family home in Valley Center.&nbsp; She was born February 7, 1954 in Halstead, to Sharmen and Delores (Powell) Carter. She was married to Harvey Pickering who preceded her in death.

Betty Dody, Newton, former director and owner of Candy Cane Corner Nursery School, passed away November 7, 2022, at the age of 90.&nbsp; She was born December 4, 1931, in Bucklin, to Frank and Bertha Hoffman. She was a 1949 graduate of Bucklin High School. In 1951 she received an associate’s degree and teaching certificate from Dodge City Junior College, and

taught school in rural Dodge City. She married Donald E. Dody, August 6, 1950, at the First United Methodist Church in Bucklin, and remained married to Don for 70 years until his death in 2020.

Betty spent her entire career providing an unconditional loving, nurturing and learning environment for many children in Newton as owner of Candy Cane Corner Nursery School for 30 years; and after retirement in 1996, she was Lead Staff for Infants at Sunshine Day Care Center. She was honored during her career to be selected in 1969 as Business and Professional Newton Area Women of the Year. She was a member of First United Methodist Church in Newton where she volunteered in the church nursery and was a member of Rachel Circle and UMW. She had fond memories as a member of the Sassy-Brassy Red Hatters.

Betty is survived by her son, Terry (Deb Scott) Dody of Manhattan; daughters, Susan Hutton of Wichita and Judy (Dean Long) Carnes of Overland Park; former daughter-in-law, Ginger Dody of Emporia, 8 grandchildren, 7 great-grandchildren, numerous nieces, nephews and many dear friends.

Jerome “Jerry” Leonard Land was born on October 2, 1933, at the home of his grandmother in Juniata, NE to Charles L. and Josephine L. (Fifield) Land. After graduating high school in Omaha in 1952, he joined the army and served during the Korean war, stationed in Germany. He attended college and graduated with a degree in draftsmanship after which he went to work for the Metropolitan Water District in Los Angeles.

In 1958, he married Jacqueline Strahan in San Bernardino, CA, adopting her son, Steve. The couple had two more children, Linda and Todd.

He married Ruth Potter Black Milliken on April 13, 1991, at Clark, NV. They lived at several locations in California where Jerry owned a pest control business, The Fly Guy. He was always a diligent and conscientious worker and a savvy business owner.

After retirement, he and Ruth moved to Moundridge, and later to McPherson, to be near family. Jerry was an expert woodworker and made many beautiful pieces of furniture for his and Ruth’s home as well as making gifts for family members. He and Ruth always had a beautiful home, and they enjoyed sharing it with family, especially on the 4th&nbsp;of July holiday when there was usually a cookout and fireworks. Jerry enjoyed being around the extended family and celebrating many holidays with 3-4 generations. Jerry and Ruth attended McPherson Free Methodist Church and more recently, Cornerstone Bible Church.

Jerome Leonard Land passed into eternity on Tuesday, November 8, 2022, at Hospice House, Hutchinson, after several years of declining health. He was eighty-nine.

He is survived by his wife, Ruth Land of Hutchinson; sister, Dolores Phelps of Florida; daughter, Linda Hess (Robert) of Twin Falls, ID; and sons, Steve Land and Todd Land (Jerry Reinke) of Joplin, MO; grandchildren, Serena Riley, Skylar Land, and Ryan Land; brother-in-law, Larry Potter of Inman; several nieces and nephews and many friends.

He was predeceased by his parents; stepson, Wesley M. Black; brother-in-law, Richard Potter; sister-in-law, Judith Potter; and great nephew, Christopher Shepard.

Ralph retired from John’s Manville prior to owning &amp; operating Ralph’s Lawn Care.&nbsp; He then was a driver for Midway Motors and a greeter for Walmart.

Ralph was born on April 28, 1935, in &nbsp;Tulsa, OK, the son of Amiel Ralph Jordan, Sr. and Lucile Lois (Cheairs) Jordan.&nbsp; He graduated from Russellville High School in Russellville, AR in 1953.&nbsp;

Ralph was united in marriage to M. Belle (Pletcher) Folck on December 22, 1977, in Russellville, AR.&nbsp; She preceded him in death on December 9, 1989.&nbsp; He married Pat L. (Holt) Guy on July 31, 1993, in McPherson, KS.&nbsp; She passed away May 4, 2018.&nbsp;

He was a member of First United Methodist Church, McPherson.

He is survived by: two daughters, Janice Riley (Bob) of Phoenix, AZ and Marsha Rasdon (Gary) of Russellville, AR; two step-daughters, Lani “Lana” Bowser (Gary) of McPherson, and Darla Williams (Bradley) of McPherson; a sister, Pollee Gough (Jim) of Clovis, CA; four grandchildren, Melissa Collins, Daniel Connerly (Sarah), Bryan Connerly (Jessica), and Garren Rasdon; six step-grandchildren, Kelcey Guy (Holly), Jared Guy, Justin Guy, Shalonda McGill, Shaun Bowser (Izumi), and Cheyann Williams (fiancé, Ben Barber); 8 great-grandchildren; nine step-great-grandchildren; and many extended family &amp; friends.

Shari Rae (Goering) Henson was born in the McPherson Hospital on April 20, 1973, to Bryce and Irene (Shannon) Goering.&nbsp; She was the third of three children.&nbsp; She lived most of her life in McPherson except for four years in Leadville, Colorado, from the fall of 1975 to the fall of 1979.&nbsp; Shari was baptized in the First United Presbyterian Church of Leadville on June 5, 1977.&nbsp; The family returned to McPherson in 1979, and Shari attended school in the McPherson School district through her senior year, graduating from McPherson High School in 1991.&nbsp; She attended Hutchinson Junior College where she studied Office Technology.&nbsp; On March 8, 2003, she was united in marriage to Richard (Rich) Henson, and they were blessed with a daughter, Hailey Rae, who was the light of their lives.&nbsp; Over the years, Shari worked at CertainTeed Mfg., Court Trustee’s Office, McPherson Middle School, Heartland Vet Clinic, and Lincoln Elementary School.&nbsp;

Shari was a member of the First Christian Church in McPherson.

Family was very important to Shari, and she always enjoyed family get-togethers and sharing the holidays with family.&nbsp; She also loved attending all of Hailey’s sporting events, especially her softball games, and enjoyed going to programs and sporting events of her nieces and nephews.&nbsp; She was especially close to her brother and sister, and their children became like her own.&nbsp; Somewhere along the way, Shari developed a green thumb and became the “plant doctor” for friends and family.&nbsp; She especially liked succulents, and the Henson home was always filled with a variety of plants.&nbsp; Shari was also well known by family and friends for giving the best hugs.

After a long and hard-fought battle with kidney cancer, Shari Rae Henson, 49, of McPherson, KS, passed away at 8:45 PM on Sunday, November 6, 2022, at her home in McPherson surrounded by family and friends.&nbsp;

She was preceded in death by her father, Bryce Goering; her paternal grandparents, Ed and Teresa Goering, and maternal grandparents, Kenneth and Wilma Shannon, all of McPherson; one uncle, Gene Shannon of Cassoday, KS; and two aunts, Betty Norris-Madron of McPherson and Bonnie Goering of Kansas City, KS.

Survivors include her loving husband, Rich, and daughter, Hailey; her mother, Irene (Shannon) Goering; her brother, Shawn Goering and his wife, Kim; her sister, Shannon Renee Saverino-Owens and her husband, Brad; her brothers-in-law, Keith Myers, Jr. and Dean LeGron and his wife, Jara, all of McPherson; and a sister-in-law, Roberta Ann Arell of Wichita.&nbsp; There was a special place in her heart for her nieces and nephews.&nbsp; She is also survived by several cousins and a special uncle, Buck Nelson.&nbsp; Shari was a devoted wife, mother, daughter, sister, aunt, and friend.&nbsp; She will be sorely missed by her family and friends.

Barbara Beryl (Stewart) Hamilton, the third child and daughter of Clifford “Bill” and Helen (Barnett) Stewart was born on February 17, 1938 in Halstead. Barbara attended Haven Grade School and High School where she was a twirler in the band and a member of the choir. She met the love of her life, Merle Hamilton, at Haven Baptist Church and was married June 1, 1956. Barbara was a member of the Haven Baptist Church. She loved Jesus and served as a Sunday school teacher, social chair lady, and Awana volunteer. Barbara sang in the choir and in a ladies trio. She loved her family and spending time watching her children, grandchildren, brothers, nieces, nephews compete in sports and participate in other activities. She was a cook at Haven Grade School for 27 years. Barbara was an avid reader. Barbara was preceded in death by her mother and father; her brothers, Daryl, Buck, Ted; and sister, Darlene. Barbara Beryl (Stewart) Hamilton, the third child and daughter of Clifford “Bill” and Helen (Barnett) Stewart was born on February 17, 1938 in Halstead. Barbara attended Haven Grade School and High School where she was a twirler in the band and a member of the choir. She met the love of her life, Merle Hamilton, at Haven Baptist Church and was married June 1, 1956. Barbara was a member of the Haven Baptist Church. She loved Jesus and served as a Sunday school teacher, social chair lady, and Awana volunteer. Barbara sang in the choir and in a ladies trio. She loved her family and spending time watching her children, grandchildren, brothers, nieces, nephews compete in sports and participate in other activities. She was a cook at Haven Grade School for 27 years. Barbara was an avid reader. Barbara was preceded in death by her mother and father; her brothers, Daryl, Buck, Ted; and sister, Darlene. Michael R. Rowland, age 65, passed away on Sunday, Nov. 6, 2022 at his home in Macksville. He was born on May 14, 1957 in Pontiac, MI., the son of Robert and Sharon (Dickinson) Rowland. 

Michael was a Macksville resident for over 20 years, working as an appliance repairman. On Oct. 24, 2002 he married Tammy L. (Schwein) in Macksville.

Steven John Davies, 75, of Hiawatha, with family by his side, passed away October 29, 2022, at Amberwell hospital in Hiawatha, after a prolonged illness.

He answered to many names: Dr. D, Dr. Davies, Steve, or Steven John, called himself Fat Steve, and Slim Davies. His most desired and cherished title was “daddy.” For those who were blessed to know him, mere words are insufficient to describe this unique personality. His storied life began in Kingman, January 28, 1947, delivered at home by his father. His parents owned and operated Livingston Mortuary, which at the time also operated the ambulance service and the furniture store. He was born with a heart condition, fortunately to educated parents, his father with medical related training and his nurse mother, who saved his life. Despite this condition, he was a strong and active child who dreamed of being a cowboy. It was during his senior year he suﬀered a heart attack and was told his life expectancy would be short. He was advised to not pursue college as the strain would be too much. Steve remained determined to do whatever he set his mind to do, and he certainly did not slow down!

To say that he was highly educated is a vast understatement. After graduating high school, he began his higher education career with a BA in speech pathology, simultaneously obtaining a BA in elementary education from Wichita State University. He continued with an MA in Speech Pathology, a certification in Special Education Administration at ESU, an MS in Special Education from KSU, Education Specialist degree in Administration, Master’s degree in Criminal Justice from WSU, and topped it off with a PhD in Adult and Continuing Education from KSU. He belonged to the Phi Delta Theta fraternity throughout his college years and was active in student government. He highly valued educational achievement, but had a down to earth style that many found surprising,

Steve’s professional working career began in Hiawatha, KS as a speech/language pathologist and audiologist and over the years included multiple positions in the fields of speech, education, and criminal justice. Most notably, his career intertwined his education and criminal justice backgrounds including, the Superintendent of Education at Kansas State Industrial Reformatory in Hutchinson, KS, USD #105 Rawlins Co-Atwood, USD #331 Kingman-Norwich, Secretary of Corrections for the State of Kansas, Chairman of the Kansas Parole Board, and he returned to Brown County as Director of Special Education Interlocal #615, followed by Superintendent of Schools for USD#430 South Brown County from which he retired in 2017 after 16 yrs of service to the community.

&nbsp;He was a loving and devoted son, husband, father, and friend. At the age of 46yrs he married Tracy, who he met while teaching as adjunct professor at Pratt Community College. They wed in his hometown of Kingman, KS on April 1st, 1993, April Fools Day, his favorite day of the year. On this day, he also instantly achieved his lifelong desire to become a father, upon the consent of Raven (age 3yrs) and again in 1994 with the birth of their son Drew.

Steve always considered northeast Kansas his home and friends here his family. Regardless of his role, Dr. Davies devoted his life to kids to help them develop a positive self-image, he always had their best interests at heart.

Steve championed various organizations too numerous to list such as: Lion’s Club, Jaycees, Boy Scouts of America, KARC, NASA, etc. that supported the development of young people, the disabled, and the disenfranchised. In a 1985, publication of the College of Education at KSU Perspectives in Adult Learning and Development Vol 9, Steve wrote an article entitled&nbsp;A Chance to Square Up&nbsp;where he detailed the value of a quality stair stepped educational program to support the needs of the inmates 85% of whom had not completed high school or a GED as he would later be quoted that 90% of incarcerated people return to the community and that the purpose of corrections is to return them as good neighbors. He served as Scoutmaster of Troop #112, and coached little league soccer and baseball. He devoted his time to mentoring youth, and networking to help people young and old achieve their goals. He had a passion for horses, vintage cars, and collecting antiques.

Although he had a giant personality to match his size and would go “toe to toe” with anyone who wanted to challenge him, he was a sentimental, tender hearted, humble man with a phenomenal sense of humor. You always knew where you stood with Steve. He was a true humanist and treated everyone with respect, and in turn was widely respected.

Ironically, he was told his life would be limited due to his weak heart, along with several other infirmities that came his way, however, he chose to live a vibrant life that he was so willing to share with others. Ultimately, it was his heart that proved to be the strongest, outlasting everything until the very end.

Steve is survived by his wife Tracy Davies of Hiawatha, his daughter Raven Sharice Milam Davies of Topeka, his son Drew Christian Davies, of Kansas City, MO, and his sister Karen Jo Vickery, of Cincinnati, OH.

Steve was preceded in death by his father Joseph Newcomer Davies, his mother Gladys Marguerite Hanson, and his sister Deanne Wagner.

A celebration of Steve’s well lived life will be held at 2:30 p.m. Sunday, November 6, at Chapel Oaks Funeral Home in Hiawatha. Tony French will oﬃciate.

William (Bill) Albert Edwards, of Raleigh, NC entered Heaven on November 6, 2022. Bill’s life was shaped by devotion to his family and service to others exemplified through his pursuits of higher education, banking and community volunteerism.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Born on May 5, 1942, in Schenectady, NY to William Henry and Margaret Laura (Becker) Edwards (both deceased). Bill spent his youth fostering a love of basketball, model trains and education, graduating from Mount Pleasant High School in 1960 and earning an AS in Business Administration from Hudson Valley Community College.

In 1964, Bill and Darlene met at First Wesleyan Church in Schenectady, NY where Darlene’s father served as the lead pastor. Bill quickly became a family friend and soon thereafter Bill and Darlene began a lifelong friendship marrying on June 24, 1967.&nbsp;

In 1977, after completing his BS in Economics and management from Russell Sage College, Bill transitioned from the banking industry to higher education when he left Marine Midland Bank and started a career at Oklahoma Wesleyan University. This began a lifelong commitment to higher education which ultimately led Bill to complete an MBA from Oklahoma Central State University and join Sterling College in 1984 serving as their Vice President of Finance until 1998.&nbsp; After his tenure at Sterling College, Bill re-entered the banking industry through his positions with Alden State Bank as Vice President &amp; Board Member from 1998 to 2001 and then as a Vice President &amp; Investment Officer for First Bank from 2001 to 2020 both located in Sterling, KS his hometown of over 35 years.

Throughout his life, Bill and Darlene have consistently found ways to support their family members and friends to pursue higher education by providing a place to live, family dinners and emotional support during their pursuits.&nbsp; Establishing a firm foundation for future Christian leaders quickly became their passion.

Bill was a dedicated husband, father, grandfather and leader serving as a board member of Rice County Hospital for more than 27 years and The First Church of the Nazarene in Hutchinson, Kansas for more than 20 years.&nbsp; &nbsp;

Bill is survived by his wife of 55 years Darlene Edwards (McCallum), and his children Dawn Edwards of Bothell, WA; Bill Edwards and wife Faye Premer and their sons Wilson Edwards and George Edwards of Brooklyn, NY; Donna Shah and husband Aalok Shah and their children Kai Shah and Kayla Shah of Raleigh, NC. Bill is also survived by his two siblings Harold Edwards and wife Angela of Schenectady, NY; Helen Tosch of Raleigh, NC; his nephew Jason Tosch, wife Gina and their son Ben of Stony Point, NY; cousin Mary Terpening of Tuscon, AZ and a host of other family and friends.

Maxine Elaine McHenry, 77, of Turon, died November 6, 2022, at her daughter’s home surrounded by family. She was born June 3, 1945, in Winfield, to Alva T. and Bertha E. (Mann) Wilson.

In addition to being a homemaker, Maxine worked as a CNA and truckdriver. She enjoyed bingo, gambling, dancing, and loved Elvis, Holsteins, and family.

On October 26, 1964, Maxine married Charles E. McHenry, in Newkirk, OK. He died July 4, 2002.

Winifred ‘Winnie’ Hendershot, 100, who lived in Hutchinson over 70 years, died November 4, 2022, at Brookdale East Senior Living Center, Wichita.

Winnie was born in 1922, in Hutchinson, the daughter of Gladys Elizabeth (Switzer) Brock and Roland Forest Brock.&nbsp; Upon graduation from Sharon Springs High School in 1940, she attended Kansas Wesleyan University, Salina, and then Hutchinson Community College, Hutchinson, where she completed a 60-hour teaching course.&nbsp; Winnie then taught at Antioch County Grade School, Abbyville, and Eastern Star School, Pretty Prairie.&nbsp;

She married Wilbur ‘Bill’ Ellis Hendershot, in Hutchinson, in 1944, and from that union was born Sharon Jean and Larry Roland.&nbsp; Together they farmed south of Hutchinson for many years.&nbsp; Winnie was a member of the South Hutchinson United Methodist Church, Darlow Study and Social Club, and Lincoln EHU.&nbsp; She enjoyed researching family genealogy, collecting antiques, and spending time with Bill on many wonderful camping trips with the Good Sam’s Club.

Winnie was preceded in death by: her parents; husband, Wilbur ‘Bill’; son, Larry Roland; and three brothers, Robert, Richard, and John.
