Rubie Lee Edwards Gamble, age 93, went home to be with her Lord and Savior November 13, 2022 in Newton.

Rubie was born June 24, 1929 in Gould, Arkansas to James Sanders and Jimmie Barnett. Rubie was raised in Arkansas along with nine siblings- George Wade, Milton Walton, Alazetta, James, Pearly, Lamorris, Eloise, Inez, and Hearsie.

Rubie came to know the Lord at the age of fourteen. She was baptized into the First Missionary Baptist Church in the river in Gould Arkansas by Rev. C.L. Washington on August 5th 1943.

Rubie loved her church and once she settled in Newton, she became a member of the Second Missionary Baptist Church of Newton. As a member of Second Baptist she took part in all of the church activities: Mission, choir, bake sales, Bible study, and prayer meeting. You could always count on Rubie to be there to offer help.

Upon moving to Kansas she met and married Arbey Sylvester Edwards and together the couple had five children- Sylvia, Arbey, Carl, Floyd, and Anthony. She had one other son who was lost during childbirth. Rubie was known as mother and grandmother to all those seeking wisdom, love, or a completely honest opinion. Rubie was always available. She was a strong woman, a woman of grit. Whenever questioned about the challenges of life she would always say, “Just turn it over to the Lord, he’ll take care of it.”

Rubie was a natural gardener, known for her green thumb. She could make anything that grew truly blossom. She thrived in being a wife, mother, and grandmother. All of her grandchildren enjoyed spending time with grandma because she made them all feel welcome, accepted and loved.

Growing up on a farm she learned the skills necessary to be an outstanding homemaker. She was known for preparing some of the finest meals. Whether it was the main entree or the finishing dessert, you would be blessed to have enjoyed her cooking.

Rubie is survived by her husband Roosevelt Gamble, two sons: Carl and Floyd Edwards and his wife Nancy, sister Inez, brother Hearsie, grandchildren: Micheal Rhoades, Anthony Edwards, LaTricia Bayes, Floyd Edwards, Carl Edwards, Josh Edwards, Preston Edwards, Luke Edwards, Elijah Edwards, and Nancy MayLee Edwards, 29 great-grandchildren, and five great-great-grandchildren.

Loretta Sue Franz died Saturday, November 12, 2022, at the age of 82.

Loretta was born on October 18, 1940, in Enid, Oklahoma, to Joe and Ruby Eck. Loretta Sue, along with her twin sister, Joetta Lou, were raised on a farm between Meno and Goltry, Oklahoma. Her dad was a custom harvester. While in Goltry High School, the twins played basketball, were salutatorians of their senior class, and were involved in many music events together. The family attended Zoar Mennonite Church in Goltry where Loretta was baptized in 1954, by Rev. J.W. Bergen.

After graduating from Goltry High School in 1958, Loretta and Joetta attended Bethel College in North Newton. She received an associates of art degree in business. They both played basketball and volleyball during the two years they were at Bethel. The twins then worked for two years at Hesston Corporation together.

It was at Bethel College that Loretta met Kenneth Franz and they were married on June 4, 1961, by Rev. Arnold Epp at First Mennonite Church, Newton, where she transferred her membership. To this marriage was born Kent Wayne on October 11, 1962, and Jay Douglas on November 10, 1966

When Kent was two years old, Loretta began to teach 2 to 4 year olds Sunday School class songs and Bible stories at First Mennonite Church. She enjoyed teaching for 33 years. Music was very important in her life. While growing up, she sang trios together with Joetta and their Mom. The twins are probably singing those songs with their Mom now.

Loretta’s hobbies included keeping her yard and flower gardens beautiful. Her huge tomato plants that she planted every year kept the neighbors supplied. She also enjoyed her many years as Sales Coordinator at Premier Building Products and Shipping Clerk at Sims Enterprises. She loved watching the Kansas City Royals and Wichita State basketball games on television.

Loretta has said that her two children were her most wonderful blessings in life. She enjoyed attending all the sporting events that her sons, Kent and Jay, participated in through high school – football, basketball, and tennis and going on to college games where Kent and Jay played basketball. She especially enjoyed attending the many events that her grandchildren participated in – softball, volleyball, basketball, cross country, and track.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by her sons: Kent of Chadler, OK, and Jay and wife Monica of Wichita: granddaughters, Shelbey and husband Bart Estes, Blakeley and husband Randon Gregory, Cecilia and husband Jordan Friedel, Oliva and husband Carlos Burbach, and grandson Keelan and wife Megan Franz; four great grandsons and two great granddaughters; brother-in-law Paul Penner; nieces and nephews. Preceding her in death were her mother and father, Joe and Roby Eck, Inman; and on July 8, 2010, she lost her twin sister, Joetta, to cancer.

A memorial service will be at 11:00 AM, Friday, November 18th, 2022, at Grace Community Church in Newton. A visitation will be the evening prior from 5:00 – 9:-00 PM, Thursday, November 17th&nbsp;at Petersen Funeral Home. A private graveside will take place at Greenwood Cemetery.

Lee Irvin White, 92, of McPherson, passed away peacefully on Monday, November 14, 2022, at The Cedars, McPherson.&nbsp; He was born on January 4, 1930, the son of Walter and Dorothy White.&nbsp; Lee joined the Army on April 21, 1950, and honorably served in the Korean War.

After completing basic training, Lee attended the AT&amp;T Radio School at Fort Mammoth, New Jersey, and taught electronics to other service members until he was discharged.&nbsp; Once discharged, he went back to school to study TV repair.&nbsp; He had a TV/radio repair shop in Newton, KS prior to working for Green’s Appliance as a TV/radio technician in McPherson for many years.&nbsp; He then went to work for NCRA and later successfully operated the family business, White’s TV &amp; Communications for over 60 years.&nbsp;

Lee was united in marriage to Margaret J. Seiler on January 1, 1954, in Halstead.&nbsp; They were blessed with a son, Shawn, and enjoyed 64 years of marriage, until her passing on January 15, 2018.&nbsp;

Lee was a member of the American Legion Post #24 and was an amateur radio enthusiast.

He is survived by his son, Shawn White and wife, Stacey, of McPherson; two grandkids; three great-grandkids; and a sister-in-law, Lamerlas White.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; and brothers, John White and Wallace White.

She and her late husband Kenneth O. Kelly were married June 26, 1948 and relocated to Lyons in the summer of 1960 with their young family. She is survived by her daughters, Liz Miller, resident of Arizona, Annie Brayton, resident of Kansas and Kathy and Leland Reinert residents of Colorado. Her son Ken Roe Kelly preceded her in death. She has 11 grandchildren, 20 great grandchildren and 5 great great grandchildren. 

She and Kenneth were long time members of the local Masonic Lodge and Order of the Eastern Star organizations.

Curtiss Richard “Mr. B” Belisle, 82, of McPherson passed away Saturday, November 12, 2022 at Pine Village of Moundridge.  Curtiss was born May 7, 1940 on the family farm, in rural Brewster, to the late Otis Joe and the late Marie Suzan (Richard) Belisle.  He was baptized at and attended Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Colby, KS in his youth. He married Deanne Polson on November 3, 1962.  

Curtiss graduated from Derby High School.  He attended both Fort Hays State University and Louisiana State University studying business administration and general arts. Curtiss worked for fifteen years at Boeing in Houston, TX dealing with procurement and facilities operations. He and his wife Deanne were the owner and operator of two restaurants for the remainder of his working life.  They were Tum Thum Restaurant in Cherokee, AL and Mrs. B’s Family Restaurant in McPherson, KS.  He was even known as Mr. B to many of his friends.  

He is survived by his grandchildren. Jessica Anderson (Jesse) of Canton, and Andrew Belisle of AL; sisters: Loretta Gross and Linda Mellenbruch; brothers: Bob Belisle (Randy) and Jerry Belisle (Kim); daughter-in-law: Linda Belisle; as well as great-grandchildren: Emma, Jude, and Jonah Anderson.

Curtiss is preceded in death by his parents; wife: Deanne; daughter: Christy Belisle; sons: Brad Belisle and Todd Belisle; and sisters: Emily Gatz and Ramona Chambers.

Visitation will be Wednesday, November 16 from 5-7 p.m. at Crick-Christians Funeral Home, 103 N. Washington, Lindsborg.

receptionist for many years.&nbsp; Linda was a
member of Journey Mennonite Church, McPherson and loved spending time with her
dogs and enjoyed her flowers.

On March 21, 1975, she married Lynel Friesen in McPherson.&nbsp; He survives.

Additional survivors include her children, Leah (Curtis)
Morgan, Buhler, and Linden (Rebecca) Friesen, Parkville, MO; grandchildren,
Matthew and Andrew Morgan, both of Buhler and Nora and Ivar Friesen, both of

David Glenn Waters, 79, passed away November 9th, 2022 at The Arbors Memory Care in Hutchinson. He was born January 1st, 1943 in Polk County Missouri to Albert and Saletha (McIntyre) Waters.&nbsp;

On March 14th, 1964 David married the love of his life, Rosalie Wyatt. They shared 59 years together.

David is survived by his wife, Rosalie, brothers, Johnny Waters, Ralph Waters, sister, Darlene Geer, son, Michael Waters (Jackie), daughter, Sarah White (Jeff), 4 grandchildren, Katherine Chacon (Paul), Dustin White (Kaitlyn), Rebecca Howell (Alex), Samantha Borrowman (Levi), 5 great grandchildren, Jacob, Cole, Natalie, Brody, Bailey as well as Baby Howell, due in April. Terry L. Story, 51, passed away on November 11, 2022 at Hospice House, Hutchinson, KS.&nbsp;&nbsp; He was born March 7, 1971 in Hutchinson, to Ralph E. and Patricia L. (Ryan) Story.

Terry was a 1989 graduate of Hutchinson High School.&nbsp; On September 23, 2006 he married Heather Williams in Hutchinson.&nbsp; Terry worked for the Peels family as a warehouse supervisor.&nbsp; He enjoyed classic cars, motorcycles and renaissance.&nbsp; &nbsp;&nbsp; &nbsp; He was preceded in death by his mother, Patricia.

Terry L. Story, 51, passed away on November 11, 2022 at Hospice House, Hutchinson, KS.&nbsp;&nbsp; He was born March 7, 1971 in Hutchinson, to Ralph E. and Patricia L. Lucille A. ‘Lucy’ Henry, 91, of Hutchinson passed away peacefully, November 13, 2022, at Sunshine Meadows Retirement Community, Buhler. She was born June 24, 1931, in Moundridge, to Jacob and Mary (Goering) Kaufman.

Lucy graduated from Moundridge High School, Moundridge, and Bethel College, North Newton, with a Bachelor’s degree in Music Education. Lucy displayed her passion for music by teaching grade school music. Lucy was artistic and a good cook. She was a loving and devoted mother and grandmother. She enjoyed spending time with her granddaughters. Lucy was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church, Hutchinson.

On July 19, 1959, she married Arthur F. Henry Jr. in North Newton. They shared 63 years of marriage before her passing.

Lucy is survived by: husband, Art Henry Jr., Hutchinson; daughter, Krystal Krehbiel (Brad), Buhler; granddaughters, Kourtney Lane (Daniel), Hutchinson, Kacey Jost (Zach), Buhler; great-grandson, Kameron Henry Lane, Hutchinson; one sister, Carol Ratzlaff (Johnny), Newton; and many beloved nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by: her parents; a son, Kevin Henry; and ten siblings.

Our Mother, Hildegard Agnes Krieger Thiessen, lived a long and full life. She passed from this life on November 12, 2022 just one day shy of her 94th birthday. On Saturday she took her last earthly breath and on Sunday she celebrated her birthday in her heavenly home with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ!

Hildegard was born to Leonard and Agatha Krieger on November 13, 1928. They lived on a farm outside of Cordell, OK, enduring the very difficult days of the Dust bowl. Hildegard was the eldest of four children which included her brothers Edgar and Norbert, and her sister Nelda. Education was important to Hildegard and her parents. After completing grade school at the MK &amp; T Grade School, she was able to continue her high school education at Corn Bible Academy in Corn, OK. Because this was a twenty mile drive from her home, Hildegard was able to board with several different families in town during her high school years. At home on the weekends and during her summer breaks, Hildegard was able to do the mowing at the local cemetery which she enjoyed. This job enabled her earn enough money to buy fabric which she sewed into the clothing she needed for school.

After graduating from Corn Bible Academy in 1947, Hildegard was given the opportunity to continue her education at Tabor College. This was a privilege that not many of her peers were offered or even desired, but she relished. She graduated from Tabor College in 1951. Her education allowed her opportunities to work in different business ventures throughout her adult life.

In January of 1951,while working in the Tabor bookstore, Hildegard met a young man who came to buy a textbook which he couldn’t afford. Although Wilmer Thiessen didn’t get that book, he got something much more precious, a lifelong relationship with his future wife. After Tabor, their relationship continued across the miles via correspondence from Hillsboro to Denver, CO where Wilmer was working. In January of 1954 he traveled to Hillsboro and surprised Hildegard with his unexpected visit and a proposal, which she accepted. They were married at the Bessie Mennonite Brethren Church outside of Cordell, OK on June 6, 1954.

Their life together took them from Hillsboro, to Denver, to Henderson, NE and back to Denver. Together they formed many long-term friendships through church and work. They lived a happy life in Denver and Littleton, Colorado for the next 20 years. During this time they added to their family. Charlene was born in 1955 (during their time living in Henderson, NE), Lynette joined the family in 1958, Shaun in 1961 and Vonda in 1965.

After 20 years in the Denver and Littleton area, Wilmer was offered a job at the Mennonite Brethren Missions Office in Hillsboro, Kansas. They moved the family in June 1974. During the next 40-some years Hildegard was again able to work Tabor College in the Business Office, and just before she retired she ran The Bookstore on Main Street which brought her much fulfillment.

In September of 2018, Wilmer and Hildegard made the decision to move to Wichita, KS to be closer to their children because of Hildegard’s diagnosis of dementia. They enjoyed two years together in their new home at Kansas Masonic Home. After caring for his bride of 66 years, Wilmer passed away on December 19, 2020. Hildegard continued residing at KMH until her death.

Hildegard is preceded in death by her husband, Wilmer; her parents, Leonard and Agatha Krieger; and her brother Edgar.

She is survived by her children, Charlene (Fred DeLoera) Thiessen, Lynette (Dwight) Roth, Shaun (Karen) Thiessen, and Vonda (Duane) Kinser. Her grandchildren, Aaron (Alena) Almendarez, Jessie (Adam) Hartke, Sandy (David Snyir) Almendarez, Alex Thiessen, Zac Thiessen, Andrew (Kayla) Kinser and Daniel Kinser. Her great-grandchildren, Henry Hartke, Asa Almendarez, Garrett Snyir and Leona Snyir. And her sister, Nelda (Virgil) Thiessen, and her brother Norbert (Sylvia) Krieger.

Betty Jean (Becker) Carlson, 89, of McPherson, KS, passed away on Wednesday, November 9, 2022, at her home.

Betty was born on July 19, 1933, in McPherson County, the youngest of four children born to Tobias B. and Ida (Koehn) Becker.&nbsp; On July 26, 1950, Betty was united in marriage to Robert Dean Carlson in Perham, MN.&nbsp; This union was blessed with the birth of three children, Dennis, Steven, and Diane.&nbsp; Married for nearly 59 years, Bob preceded her in death on July 7, 2009.

Along with being a homemaker, she worked as a waitress at Starlite Restaurant, a cook for Hickory Manor Nursing Home, a sales clerk for McNichols Shoe Store, and a holiday gift wrapper at Morris &amp; Sons Clothiers.&nbsp;

She was a member of the First Baptist Church and former member of the V.F.W. Auxiliary.

Survivors include: her children, Dennis (Sherill) Carlson of McPherson, and Diane (Terry) Rhea of Hollister, MO; daughter-in-law, Lori Carlson of Manhattan; nine grandchildren, Tracy Rhea, Laura Rhea, Rob Newberry, Kelly (Carlson) Nicola, Melissa Newberry, Tara Flores, Jeremy Schmidt, Matt Carlson, and Jami Carlson; 18 great-grandchildren; and many extended family and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; a son, Steve Carlson; siblings, Lincoln Becker, Allen Becker, and Rozella Chapman; a granddaughter, Amy Carlson; and a great-grandson.

Johnny “Junebug” Cheeks was born June 27, 1958, in Great Bend, Kansas to Johnny Cheeks, Sr. and Virginia Lee (Robinson) Cheeks.

Johnny attended Larned high school and graduated in 1976. &nbsp;After graduating, he went on to serve in the United States Army. &nbsp;After discharge from the military, he found his home in Hutchinson with his family in 1976.&nbsp; He worked as a forklift operator for Midwest Iron and Metal for many years.&nbsp; Johnny was a member of Macedonia Missionary Baptist Church where he participated in the church choir and as an usher. &nbsp;Serving the Lord was one of Johnny’s greatest joys and we all find peace in knowing that he is right where he wants to be.

Johnny was preceded in death by his grandparents, Winifred and Beulah Robinson, as well as many dear aunts, uncles, and cousins.

Survivors include his daughter, Jonica Banks (Chris) of Clearwater, Florida; granddaughter, Aminah Banks who he was the greatest papa to; his mother, Virginia Cheeks of Hutchinson; sister, Jonnie Brown (Donnie) of Seattle, Washington; brother, Jerry Cheeks of Hutchinson; and longtime friend, Nece Killebrew.

Jimmie J. Goering, 85, died November 10, 2022, at Hutchinson Regional Medical Center. He was born April 18, 1937, in Pretty Prairie, to Ernest and Bertha (Unruh) Goering.

Jimmie graduated from Pretty Prairie High School in 1955, and then attended Hutchinson Community College. He was a supervisor for Cessna / Eaton for 39 years. Jimmie loved to go bowling and skeet shooting and he was a member of First Mennonite Church, Hutchinson.

On July 29, 1967, he married Florene Faye Flickner, in Pretty Prairie. She passed away on September 29, 2013.

Jimmie is survived by: nephews, Terry Goering (Renee), Hutchinson, Steve Goering (Debbie), Mullinville; nieces, Elizabeth Byers, Kingman, Vickie Goering-Bainum(Rex), Hutchinson; cousin, Lois Schlickau, Haven; and several great nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by: his parents; wife, Florene; and siblings.

Clyde's life began on May 7, 1955, in Indianapolis, IN. He is the son of Cloyce Thrush and Candice(Herald) Knowles.&nbsp;

Clyde served his country in the United States Army and was a disabled veteran. He was a member of the American Legion and in his early years worked as a mechanic. 

Clyde is survived by his children Christy Papadakis of Texas, Elizabeth Thrush of Tennessee, Clyde (Rondee) Thrush Il of Kansas and Timothy Thrush of Florida; 11 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren; his girlfriend Karen Cauley (K.C.); his siblings: Cecil Thrush; Carl Thrush and Jessica Donnelly: and many nieces and nephews. His family love him and will miss him. Clyde passed away at his home on November 10, 2022. He is preceded in death by his parents, his brothers: Cloyce Thrush Jr. and Charlie Thrush: and his son-in-law George.

Barton Gael “Bart” Zody, 60, died November 9, 2022, at Hospice House, Hutchinson.&nbsp; He was born November 16, 1961, in Tulsa, OK, and adopted by Dean and Barbara (Brader) Wood.&nbsp; Bart grew up in Wichita before moving to Hutchinson when he was in the fifth grade. &nbsp;After Dean’s death, Barbara married Keith Zody, and was adopted by Keith.

Bart graduated from Buhler High School in 1980.&nbsp; After serving in the United States Air Force for four years, he pursued his love of cooking and became a chef.&nbsp; Bart was an amazing cook.&nbsp; In addition, he was intelligent (always working crossword puzzles), obsessed with listening to music, and an astounding photographer. &nbsp;Bart was a collector of various items, from bears to German beers, and loved to travel to the mountains.&nbsp; &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;He was a devoted son, always putting his mother, Barbara, ahead of himself and making sure her needs were met.

Stephen Michael Ashcraft, 76, was freed from the grasp of dementia and was restored by his Heavenly Father on Tuesday, November 8, 2022, at his home. He was born at Grace Hospital in Hutchinson, KS, on May 3, 1946, to Vernon William and Virginia Blanche Carmichael Ashcraft.

Steve attended Mitchell Grade School and was a proud graduate of Valley Pride Grade School and Nickerson Rural High School (1964). At Nickerson he lettered in basketball as well as playing American Legion summer baseball. In 1966 Steve graduated from Hutchinson Junior College and continued his education at The University of Kansas School of Pharmacy, graduating in 1969. At KU Steve was a member of Kappa Psi pharmacy fraternity. He began his pharmacy internship at Coberly Drug. Steve was the first pharmacy manager for Dillon’s Pharmacy on West 5th. He later worked for Key Rexall. In 1980 Steve opened Ashcraft Pharmacy in the Hart’s Shopping Center in South Hutchinson. In 2016 he retired after selling the pharmacy. During Steve’s long career he made hundreds of friends and loyal customers who not only admired his professional expertise, but enjoyed his compassion and ornery spirit.

Steve married Jacqulyn Sue Andrews on August 31, 1968, at Union Valley Church in Hutchinson. Together they completed their senior years at KU in their cozy 10’ wide mobile home. On June 4, 1971, their marriage was blessed with their only son, Stephen William (aka Peanut). He and his wife, Ali Chandler Clark Ashcraft, brought daughters, Chandler Elizabeth, Lexee Adisson, and Bryten Makenzie to the family. Steve is also survived by his younger brother, Larry (Jolene) of Hutchinson; sister-in-law, Rhonda Cairns Ashcraft; nieces, Shawna Ashcraft Logue, Desiree Ashcraft Byard (Jimmie), and Jennifer Ashcraft Toland (Ben); four great nieces; and numerous cousins. Missing him greatly are his ace German Shorthair bird dog, Ría, loyal Irish Setter, Brady, and three-legged tortoise kitty, Mocha.

Sports were always an integral part of Steve’s life, starting with Cub Scout Baseball and on to competitive baseball and softball. As an adult he played slow pitch softball for Lee T. Moore Construction, Carl’s Bar, and finally Ashcraft Pharmacy. In 2014-15 Steve received his 40 year plaque for officiating basketball and football for the Kansas State High School Activity Association. He loved the challenge and camaraderie of “reffing” at the high school and college level and still maintained contact with his fellow refs during their Third Thursday coffees at Scuttlebutt’s. Another passion of Steve’s were his vintage vehicles. He was always proudest behind the wheel of his ‘66 Corvette or his ‘57 Chevy Bel Aire.

Steve was often the quiet supporter of school sports programs, having supplied uniforms for golf and tennis teams. One of his favorite pastimes had been finding hundreds of golf balls on the Crazy Horse course and in the pond on #11. Steve would then spruce them up and repurpose them for the area student golf programs. His last moments were in this Happy Place.

Steve and Jackie were charter members of the original Paganica Country Club. Steve was an active golfer as the course changed from Paganica to Lakewood, The Highlands, and now Crazy Horse.

Steve learned to love hunting and fishing at an early age alongside his father and brothers. He passed these interests along to his son and there were soon three generations sharing the love. Opening day of Pheasant Season became a family ritual.

As a die-hard Jayhawk, Steve attended football and basketball games whenever possible, even traveling to some distant sites to cheer them on. In 2021 his granddaughter, Chandler, became the third generation Jayhawk following her father in 1994. Granddaughter, Lexee, is currently a sophomore at KU.

Steve was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Robert John.

He was baptized as a member of South Hutchinson United Methodist Church and currently attended Hutchinson First Church of the Nazarene.

No matter whether it was dance recitals (which were never quite his “thing”) or sporting events Steve loved watching his granddaughters. He loved tormenting the girls and they soon learned to give him as good as he sent. Steve and Jackie also loved traveling with their son and his family to KU events or just sightseeing. He and Jackie logged many miles touring Alaska several times, then on to Australia and New Zealand and touring the Greek isles en route to Athens after Chandler’s graduation with his son and family. A life-long dream was fulfilled when he and his son got to play at St. Andrews, Carnoustie, Troon, and several other courses they had always loved. Steve and Jackie were later able to tour again with several other golf buddies and their wives. They witnessed Tiger Woods winning the British Open in 2000. The golf group’s annual trip to Las Vegas for several rounds was always something he and his son cherished.

Steve’s compassion and generosity were well known in the community. Schools and organizations could always depend on Ashcraft Pharmacy to support their fundraisers. His customers were “his people” and he always saw to it that their pharmaceutical needs were met. Steve will be greatly missed.

Cremation has taken place. Memorial service will be 1 p.m. Saturday, November 19, 2022, at Hutchinson First Church of the Nazarene, 4290 N. Monroe, with Pastor Kent Pedersen officiating. The service will be livestreamed on the church’s website. Friends may sign Steve’s memorial book from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday thru Friday at Elliott Mortuary. Barbara Hill passed away November 11, 2022, at Hutchinson Regional Medical Center.&nbsp; She was born November 20, 1947, in Ponca City, OK, to Charlie and Virginia Musser.&nbsp; Barbara grew up in Ponca City, OK, Wichita Falls, TX, and Salina.

She married Dennis Hogan, in Salina; they later divorced.&nbsp; Barbara and Dennis had three children; Sherrie (Hogan) Hand, Belton, MO, Shawn Hogan, and Stephen Hogan, both of Salina; 11 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

In 1989, Barbara married Don Hill, in Great Bend.&nbsp; Don has two sons; Rick Hill, Wichita, and Robert Hill, Santa Clara, CA; and two grandsons.

Barbara worked a variety of jobs, and had her own business for a time.&nbsp; She found her real love when she became a para in a Great Bend elementary school.&nbsp; This evolved into a desire to become a teacher.&nbsp; Barbara went back to school at age 47, and received her teaching certificate to teach elementary school.&nbsp; She taught several age levels, but finally found her passion in teaching third grade.&nbsp; Barbara loved that age, and was a dedicated teacher.&nbsp; She continued to teach until retirement.

Barbara’s parents, her younger sister, Patti, and her admiring second mother-in-law all have gone ahead into that Heavenly Kingdom that we all aspire to, and now Barbara joins them.&nbsp; Those left behind will miss our loving and talented Barbara.

Janice Suzanne Dyer, 75, of Salina, KS, passed away Tuesday, November 8, 2022 at Town Village of Leawood.  Janice was born December 15, 1946 in Lindsborg, to the late Harold and the late Justine (Finney) Olson.  

Janice was a graduate of Lindsborg High School.  She attended Brown Mackie College and worked as a secretary and bookkeeper.

Survivors include her daughter: Sherri Whitefield of Salina; son: Jeffery Dyer (Katie) of Leawood; brother: Warren Olson (Lynnda) of Lindsborg; four granddaughters: Ashley Whitefield, Courtney Whitefield, Hudson Dyer and, Margo Dyer; as well as great grandchildren: Marcus Davis, Kamren Davis, and Kylie Manning and numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family members.

Phillip Gene Bernard was born February 17, 1954, in Hutchinson, KS, to Emma Bernard-Castor and Lanier W. Phillips.&nbsp; He accepted the Lord Jesus Christ as his personal Lord and Savior and was a member of Second Baptist Church, Hutchinson.&nbsp; Phillip attended Avenue A Elementary School, Sherman Junior High, and graduated from Hutchinson High School, Hutchinson.

He was the owner and operator of Phil Bernard Construction Company in Hutchinson for over 20 years.&nbsp; As a gifted and creative craftsman, Phillip continued the Bernard Construction family legacy, as he learned the construction trade from his uncles.&nbsp; In his spare time, he enjoyed making sculptures out of concrete.

Phillip loved playing golf on the weekends and playing in tournaments, hanging out with cousins, relatives, and childhood friends.&nbsp; He was a kind and compassionate soul who always had a warm smile to offer.&nbsp; Phillip regularly spent time with his elders for conversation, coffee, or to offer a helping hand.

On Tuesday, November 8, 2022, our Lord and Savior called our beloved Phillip to be with Him in a place we are all promised one day, if we believe and have faith. Preceding him in death are:&nbsp; his grandparents, Warren and Jessie Bernard; parents, Emma Bernard-Castor and Lanier W. Phillips; brother, Bobby Jenkins; four sisters, twin sister Phyllis, Mary ‘Missy’ Bailey, Denise Phillips, and Teresa Benford; two nephews, Curtis Jenkins and Joshua Haines; aunt, Maxine Hill; and seven uncles, Wilbur Bernard, Leonard Bernard, Henry Bernard, John Bernard, Samuel Bernard, Kenneth Bernard, and Donald Bernard. Merlin Jay Miller was born to Mary Fern
Eby Miller and Edgar Jay Miller in Troy, Kansas, on September 10th, 1931. He
grew up with two sisters: Letha and Patricia. Merlin graduated from high school
in 1950, then attended McPherson College.

In 1953, Merlin was dating Delma Joan
Cline. Because he could not get time off to travel to Kansas and get married,
Merlin quit his job. The couple was married on August 28th, 1953.

On the day his father passed away, Merlin
also received his draft notice. He served in the Army for two years. Merlin and
Delma’s first daughter, Cheri Lynn, was born in 1956 at Fort Chaffee, Arkansas,
where Merlin was stationed. After his service, Merlin moved with his family to
McPherson, Kansas.

Merlin and Delma had their second child,
Diane Kay, in 1959. Their third child, Kevin Jay, was born in 1963. Cheri,
Diane, and Kevin have fond memories of their dad leading the 4-H club, coaching
softball teams, playing tennis, and taking them on family vacations. The
Millers faithfully attended Monitor Church of the Brethren. On February 27th,
1989, Merlin lost his wife to breast cancer. Merlin and Delma were married 35
years.

On January 20th, 1990, Merlin married Reta
Raleigh Hoch Gubser. Merlin and Reta were members of the First Baptist Church.
While married to Reta, Merlin began playing golf, woodworking, and rock
hunting. On March 1st, 2004, Merlin lost his second wife to multiple myeloma.
Merlin and Reta were married 14 years.

On August 17th, 2008, Merlin married Jody
Clinesmith Dombaugh. They were members of the First United Methodist Church.
While married to Jody, Merlin became a dog-lover and learned to play Bridge.
The couple enjoyed attending McPherson College ballgames and theatre
performances. Merlin lost his third wife on October 23rd, 2021. Merlin and Jody
were married 13 years.

In his last year of life, despite a
relapse of bladder cancer, Merlin spent his time playing golf, cornhole, and
pool with friends, exercising at The Cedars’ fitness center, and doing jigsaw
puzzles with family. He passed away on October 13th, 2022, with his family near
him.

Merlin is survived by his children and
their spouses: Cheri and Neal Hudson, Diane and Jim Patton, Kevin Miller and
Herb Acevedo; his stepchildren and their spouses: Wyatt and Mary Ann Hoch,
Keith and Gail Hoch, Brenda and Jay Bohnenblust, Dalyn and Mark Cantrell; his
sister, Patricia, and her husband Lowell Yoder, and a brother-in-law, Glenn
Gayer. Merlin is also survived by 15 grandchildren: Colby, Riley, Cara, Adele,
Logan, Erin, Lauren, Braden, Kaelin, Ashley, Whitney, Heidi, Katelyn, Casey,
Cristen; and nine great-grandchildren. Merlin is now reunited with his three
wonderful wives, and we hope for his sake it isn’t awkward.

The family will receive friends from 3:00pm
to 5:00 pm, Sunday, November 20th, 2022, at Stockham Family Funeral Home.&nbsp;

Bonnie Lou (McKee) Fry, age 79, residing in Park City, passed away surrounded by her family on November 3, 2022, after battling metastatic breast cancer for many years.

Bonnie, born on October 2, 1943, grew up in Wichita, Kansas, and graduated from Wichita East High School in 1961. She attended Wichita University.

Bonnie married Carl E. Fry on June 24, 1966 and went on to have two beautiful children; Steven Greg and Kimberly Suzanne. Bonnie was an accomplished woman, wife, mother, and grandmother. She lived a full life and enjoyed traveling, participating in car shows, collecting glass candy containers, flower gardening, and spoiling her children and grandchildren.

She landed her first “real” job at Wesley Medical Center where she retired after working 40+ years at the hospital. She had a lifelong passion volunteering and raising money for Cars for Charity, Ability Point (The Arc of Sedgwick County), and Starkey.

Bonnie was preceded in death by her father, Albert Earl McKee; mother Naoma Vivian (Stone) McKee, both of Wichita; brother Denny Lynn McKee of Rogue River, Oregon; and Sister Patricia Marie McKee-Hilburn of Valley Center.

Bonnie is survived by her husband, Carl; son Steven Fry and his wife Windy Fry of Goddard; daughter Kimberly Fry of Wichita; three granddaughters, Abigail Fry of Broken Arrow, Oklahoma, Faith Fry of Goddard, and Alyssa Fry of Goddard.

Donald graduated from Hutchinson High School and Hutchinson Community College. He was a die-hard basketball fan of Hutchinson Community College Blue Dragons and KU Jayhawks. He retired from Woodwork Manufacturing and was a church elder at Grace Christian Church.

Donald is survived by: his brother, Thomas Scheuermann, Hutchinson; sister, Kathy Zimmerman, California; nephews, Jacob Espinoza, Jadon Espinoza and Justin Zimmerman.

John Branson “JB” Tarr died in the arms of his loving wife of 72 years on November 9, 2022, on his 91st&nbsp;birthday, at Hospice House, Hutchinson. He was born November 9, 1931, in Cherokee, OK, to Jesse Cornelius and Lois Fay (Van Wye) Tarr.

JB graduated in 1949 from Planeview High School, Wichita. He went on to earn degrees at Wichita State and Pittsburg State Universities. He was a lifetime educator, teaching mathematics at Junior High, High school and college levels for 60 years. He officially retired from teaching in 1994 from Hutchinson Community College, but missed teaching mathematics, and became an adjunct instructor at NWAC in Arkansas for an additional 19 years.

Many athletes were impacted by Coach Tarr, in football, basketball, and track. He started with assisting in sports at Mulvane High, then coaching a sport for every season in Derby where he was head coach for track. He coached cross country and track at Hutchinson Community College for over 20 years, with a particular passion for long-distance runners.

John had a love of numbers, and acted as a statistician for many sports events, to include the National Junior College Basketball tournament and taking surveys at the State Fair. He passed his love of numbers on to the little ones in the family and a frequent sight was to find him working on math problems with them as soon as they could count. He tutored several grandkids from afar, as far away as Australia.

Beyond numbers, he had a love for golf, for birdwatching, for traveling, and for hiking, especially in the mountains. If a family member had an interest, he learned all about it so he could add it to his hobbies.

JB was a member of the Church of Christ, serving as an elder for 3 congregations- College Hill Church of Christ in Mulvane, Walnut and Campbell in Hutchinson, and Bella Vista Church of Christ in Arkansas. He epitomized a life of servitude. JB taught classes at these churches and was willing to also lead the song service and preach as needed. Of note, he and Patsy worked several years as facilitators for Marriage Encounter and counseling young couples. They traveled to South Africa to teach Bible Classes there.

&nbsp;JB is survived by: his wife, Patsy of Hutchinson; daughters, Deborah Herndon (Rex) of Arkansas City, Brenda Graham (Kenny) of Hutchinson, and Penny Pearlman of Coral Springs, FL; son, John Tarr (Kelley) of Brooklet, GA, 13 grandchildren; and 22 great-grandchildren. He is survived by one brother, Van Tarr of Mulvane.

He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Dickie Van Tarr; a granddaughter, Holly Jo Hadley; a great-granddaughter, Ava Marie Ehret, and 5 sisters.

Funeral service will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday, November 14, 2022, at Elliott Chapel, with son-in-law, Kenny Graham and Randall Caselman officiating. Graveside service will be 3:00 p.m. at the Mulvane Cemetery, Mulvane, with Robert Hamm officiating.
