Fresh off his first career victory, Hutchinson Community College men's cross country runner&nbsp;<a href="https://www.bluedragonsports.com/sports/mxc/2025-26/bios/kogo_cornelius_a3hy">Cornelius Kogo</a>&nbsp;was named the KJCCC Men's Cross Country Runner of the Week on Tuesday.

Kogo won the season-opening Terry Masterson Twilight Classic on Friday night at Fun Valley. The sophomore from Eldoret, Kenya led the No. 4-ranked Blue Dragon men to a 1-2-3-4 finish as Hutchinson captured the team title for the second time in meet history.

Kogo crossed the finish line with a winning time of 20:04.10, the 13th-fastest time in Masterson Twilight history.

Blue Dragon Cross Country swept the Week 2 KJCCC weekly honors. Teammate Mildred Rono won the Terry Masterson Twilight women's title and was also named KJCCC Women's Runner of the Week.

👟 Kogo tapped as KJCCC Men's Runner of the Week

Hutchinson Community College freshman&nbsp;<a href="https://www.bluedragonsports.com/sports/wxc/2025-26/bios/roni_mildred_mud8">Mildred Rono</a>'s impressive collegiate debut earned the Blue Dragon runner KJCCC Women's Cross Country Runner of the Week honors on Tuesday.

Rono, a freshman from Iten, Kenya, obliterated the Terry Masterson Twilight Classing record book in becoming the second-straight Blue Dragon to win the event, which was contested on Friday night at Fun Valley.

Rono smashed the Fun Valley course record with a three-mile time of 16:55.33, blitzing the old record by 39.12 seconds. She is the first runner in event history to break 17 minutes.

Rono's winning margin of 55.30 seconds is also a meet record.

Rono helped the No. 15-ranked Blue Dragon women' to a runner-up finish at the Masterson Twilight.

🏈 HutchCC remains No. 1 in latest NJCAA rankings; opens season Saturday

(AP) —&nbsp;Ohio State climbed to No. 1 in&nbsp;<a href="https://apnews.com/hub/college-football">The Associated Press Top 25</a>&nbsp;college football poll on Tuesday, LSU and Miami moved into the top five, and Florida State jumped back into the rankings at the expense of Alabama, which plummeted to its lowest spot in 17 seasons.

The defending national champion Buckeyes received 55 of 66 first-place votes to move up two spots after their&nbsp;<a href="https://apnews.com/article/texas-ohio-state-score-00fde92461a0345cec2b21eb61a597bf">win over preseason No. 1 Texas</a>. Ohio State is at the top of a regular-season Top 25 for the first time since November 2015.

Texas dropped to No. 7 as the media voters shuffled the rankings following a topsy-turvy Labor Day weekend. It was only the second time, and first since 1972, that two top-five teams lost in Week 1 and the first time four top-10 teams lost. Only three teams in the Top 25 are in the same spot they were in the preseason poll.

Penn State got seven first-place votes and remained No. 2. LSU, which received three first first-place votes, was followed by Georgia and Miami to round out the top five.

Oregon got the other first-place vote and was followed by Texas, Clemson, Notre Dame and South Carolina.

LSU jumped six spots after&nbsp;<a href="https://apnews.com/article/lsu-clemson-score-e415dd62ebe821a7b383f4a296fd7328">winning at Clemson</a>&nbsp;and Miami got a five-rung promotion for its&nbsp;<a href="https://apnews.com/article/notre-dame-miami-football-score-f63f2d411e1a1f4c1ada7c0910d1de87">victory over Notre Dame.</a>

The biggest movers in the poll were Florida State and Alabama after the Seminoles’&nbsp;<a href="https://apnews.com/article/alabama-florida-state-score-d85f2c3888b764a2ba559eb13ef52126">31-17</a>&nbsp;victory in their head-to-head matchup: Florida State, 15 spots outside the Top 25 in the preseason, is now No. 14. Alabama dropped all the way from No. 8 to No. 21 — its lowest ranking since it was No. 24 in the 2008 preseason poll. That was the second of Nick Saban’s 17 teams in Tuscaloosa.

It’s been quite a turnabout for Florida State. The Seminoles were No. 10 in the 2024 preseason, lost their first two games, finished 2-10 and weren’t ranked again until now.

Utah, at No. 25, joins Florida State as the only newcomers this week.

The Utes had received the second-most points, behind BYU, among teams outside the preseason Top 25.&nbsp;<a href="https://apnews.com/article/utah-ucla-football-score-e756f5c3d7fe5e07407eca35128f963c">Utah got more credit for beating UCLA 43-10 on the road</a>&nbsp;than BYU got for hammering FCS foe Portland State. The Utes are ranked for the first time since last October, when they were at the front end of a seven-game losing streak.

Boise State, which had been No. 25, received no votes following its&nbsp;<a href="https://apnews.com/article/boise-state-usf-college-football-score-ef603421c931da0212499fac6a307fed">34-7 loss at South Florida.</a>&nbsp;The Broncos had appeared in 14 straight polls. The other team to drop out of the poll was No. 17 Kansas State, which followed up its season-opening loss to Iowa State with a last-minute home win over FCS team North Dakota.

— Ohio State is the first team to take over the top spot in the first regular-season poll since Alabama in 2012. It was the biggest jump to No. 1 in the first regular-season poll since Southern California was promoted from No. 3 in 2008.

— Texas’ fall was the biggest for a preseason No. 1 since Auburn dropped to No. 8 in the first regular-season poll of 1984.

1) Coming off a 38-35 come-from-behind win over North Dakota last week in its home opener, K-State now turns its attention to Army as the Black Knights visit Manhattan on Saturday evening inside Bill Snyder Family Stadium. The game, which kicks off at 6 p.m., will be shown on ESPN with Roy Philpott (play-by-play) and Louis Riddick (analyst) and Kris Budden (sideline) on the call.

2) Quarterback Avery Johnson is set to make his 17th-career start under center. The Wichita, Kansas, product enters the game with a 157.7 pass efficiency ranking and is 49-of-73 (67.1%) for 591 yards and five touchdowns on the year. He enters the week ranking 14th nationally in passing yards per game (295.5) and 16th nationally in completions per game (24.5).

3) K-State has seen 11 different players record catches this season, and wide receiver Jayce Brown is coming off his best game as a Wildcat. Brown had 12 catches for 109 yards and a touchdown, while Jaron Tibbs and Joe Jackson each hauled in TD receptions last week.  Brown leads the team in receiving with 16 catches for 187 yards and three TDs, while Jerand Bradley has eight catches for 121 yards and a score.

4) In two games, K-State's defense has held its opponents to an average of 2.9 yards per rush on 79 attempts and also has 16 tackles for loss and seven sacks, the latter of which ranks 24th nationally. Austin Romaine leads the way in tackles with 18 stops, which includes 10 last week against North Dakota. Tobi Osunsanmi has a team-leading 3.0 sacks and 3.5 tackles for loss.

5) The Wildcats' defensive backs have totaled 10 pass breakups through the first two weeks of the season. Cornerback Zashon Rich leads the way with three passes defended, and he is second on the team with 11 tackles. Fellow cornerback Donovan McIntosh has two pass breakups, while five other Wildcats have recorded one each. The Cats also have three fumble recoveries on the year.

• All Wells did during his first season on staff was tutor Avery Johnson to a school-record 25 touchdown passes, while his sophomore signal caller ranked fifth in school history in passing yards (2,985) and completions (238).

• Wells and Johnson helped guide a K-State offense that finished in the top 15 nationally in four categories and in the top 10 of school history in 15 game or season categories.

• K-State has totaled at least 375 yards of offense in 34 of the last 42 games dating back to the beginning of the 2022 season.

• The 34 games with at least 375 yards are tied for fourth among Power 4 programs and second among Big 12 schools. Georgia leads the way with 37, followed by Oregon and USC with 35, while LSU, TCU, Texas and Washington are also at 34.

• During that stretch, K-State holds a 27-7 record when totaling at least 375 yards, while the Wildcats are 2-6 when going under that mark.

• Johnson went 21-of-30 for 273 yards with two touchdowns and no interceptions against Iowa State. His 70.0% completion clip was a career best (minimum 10 attempts), bettering his 66.7% mark in last year's season opener against UT Martin. His pass efficiency rating was the second highest of his career, only to be outdone by a 186.0 mark last year at West Virginia.

• Avery Johnson backed his season-opening performance up with the first 300-yard passing game of his career as he threw for 318 yards and a career-high tying three touchdowns on 28-of-43 aim against North Dakota. His completion and attempt totals were also a career high.

Kickoff is set for 2:30 p.m., at Faurot Field, with the action being televised by ESPN2 with Mike Monaco, Kirk Morrison and Dawn Davenport on the call.

The two programs met every season from 1919 to 2011, before the rivalry stopped when Missouri moved to the Southeastern Conference. The matchup reignites this week, with Missouri leading the all-time series 56-55-9. Missouri won the most recent matchup between the two schools in 2011, earning a 24-10 win at Arrowhead Stadium in Kansas City. Kansas last played in Columbia in 2006 and last won there in 2004.

Both teams are off to undefeated starts this season. The Jayhawks moved to 2-0 on the season on Friday night, beating Wagner 46-7. That win came on the heels of a Week 0 win over Fresno State, 31-7. The Kansas defense, under first-year defensive coordinator D.K. McDonald, has allowed just 14 points and 359 yards of total offense through two games.

Fresno State and Wagner have combined to rush for just 90 yards in two games. The 90 rushing yards allowed are the fewest allowed through two games since 2009 and the 14 points allowed are also the fewest allowed through two games since '09.

The Blue Dragons posted their second-straight shutout and start the season 3-0 for the 11th time in program history.

Hutchinson has added a game to make up for the loss of the Newman University JV game from its original schedule. The Blue Dragons will play host to Wichita United U18 at 6 p.m. Thursday at the Salthawk Soccer Complex.

Puccinelli scored a pair of first-half goals for her first and second career goals. Puccinelli just missed a hat trick when she hit the right post with a shot attempt with 21 minutes to play in the second half.

⚽ Puccinelli's two goals lead No. 15 Dragons in grounding of Jets

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) — Tarik Skubal pitched seven innings of four-hit ball, the Tigers scored four times off Michael Wacha in the fifth inning, and Detroit went on to beat the Kansas City Royals 5-0 on Sunday in the rubber game of their three-game set.

Skubal (12-4) struck out four and walked one while bouncing back from his first loss in more than six weeks. Jake Rogers drove in two runs for Detroit, while Colt Keith and Gleyber Torres also drove in runs.

It was a crucial game between AL Central rivals. The Tigers began the day with a half-game lead over East-leading Toronto for the best record in the American League, while Kansas City had climbed within two games of Seattle in the wild-card race.

Wacha (8-11) was matching Skubal into the fifth, allowing a single baserunner while striking out four. But things suddenly went awry, beginning with a leadoff walk to Spencer Torkelson and a one-out single by Zach McKinstry.

Rogers followed with a fly ball that center fielder Tyler Tolbert badly misplayed, resulting in a two-run triple. Keith added a line drive that found a gap for a two-run double, and Torres a grounder that got through the infield to make it 4-0.

Wacha left after 4 2/3 innings. He was charged with four runs and four hits and a walk.

Rogers' triple came after Tolbert misjudged his fly ball, which bounced off the wall and halfway back to the infield. Then in the seventh, Tolbert allowed Rogers' routine fly ball to drop in left-center for a double.

Skubal had his 11th start with at least six innings and no runs allowed this season. That broke a tie with Denny McLain in 1969 for the most such starts in franchise history.

McCOOK, Nebraska – For just the eighth time in program history in the rally score era, the Hutchinson Community College volleyball team completed a reverse sweep after falling down two sets to none.

Outside hitters&nbsp;<a href="https://bluedragonsports.com/sports/wvball/2025-26/bios/villanueva_alondra_w1k3">Alondra Villanueva</a>&nbsp;and&nbsp;<a href="https://bluedragonsports.com/sports/wvball/2025-26/bios/proctor_atlyn_jzx3">Atlyn Proctor</a>&nbsp;combined for 27 kills and the Blue Dragons hit .231 over the final three sets to upend the North Platte Knights 21-25, 15-25, 25-22, 25-17, 15-12 in the final match of the McCook Labor Day Tournament on Saturday at the Graff Events Center.

The Blue Dragons finished 3-1 at McCook and are above .500 for the first time this season at 4-3. The Blue Dragons will play host to the Barton Cougars in the 2025 Jayhawk Conference and Hutchinson home opener at 6 p.m. on Wednesday at the Sports Arena.

The Blue Dragons completed their first reverse sweep since September 30, 2023 when they rallied to defeat Dodge City 3-2. Hutchinson is now 61-61 all-time in five-set matches in the rally score era that dates back to 2001.

Villanueva led the Blue Dragons with her second double-double of the season with 15 kills, 11 digs and had three aces. Villanueva hit .209 for the match with six errors on 43 attacks.

Proctor hit .217 with 12 kills on 46 swings. Proctor also had a season-high four blocks. She had three kills in the fifth set.

Sophomores&nbsp;<a href="https://bluedragonsports.com/sports/wvball/2025-26/bios/raschen_priscilla_2phx">Priscilla Raschen</a>&nbsp;and&nbsp;<a href="https://bluedragonsports.com/sports/wvball/2025-26/bios/follmer_kierny_j8x3">Kierny Follmer</a>&nbsp;had six kills each. Follmer hit a season-high .357 and added three total blocks, including one solo block.

The Blue Dragons hit .172 for the match with 44 kills on 139 total attacks. North Platte had 41 total kills.

The Dragons hit .263 in the set and closed out the set with a Villanueva kill and a Knights' ball-handling error for a 25-22 Dragon win.SET 4: There were five lead changes and four ties in the first 12 rallies of the fourth set. Tied at 6-all,&nbsp;<a href="https://bluedragonsports.com/sports/wvball/2025-26/bios/galliher_mattie_fggb">Mattie Galliher</a>&nbsp;and Raschen had a double block to give the Blue Dragons the lead for good in the set. A Proctor/Reupena double block gave the Dragons an 11-7 lead. The Knights pulled within 12-11, but a Follmer kill on the slide stopped that North Platte run. Leading 16-14, Follmer connected again and Villanueva had a kill to help the Dragons build a 20-15 lead. Proctor's only three kills of the set came on the final three rallies of the set as Hutchinson forced a fifth set with a 25-17 win.SET 5: Hutchinson scored the first three points and North Platte scored the next three to force an early Dragon timeout. The Blue Dragons trailed 8-7 at the fifth-set crossover. Trailing 9-8, the Dragons had a key 3-0 run on a Raschen kill, a Follmer/Proctor double block and a North Platte attack error for an 11-9 lead. A Proctor kill got the Dragons to match point at 14-10. North Platte fought off two match points, but Proctor completed the reverse sweep with a cross-court kill for a 15-12 set win.
