⛳ Hatzenbuehler shoots 71 to lead Dragons in Round 2 at NJCAA

NEWTON – Freshman Grant Hatzenbuehler became the first Blue Dragon to shoot a round under par at the 2026 NJCAA Division I National Championships on Wednesday at Sand Creek Station.

But the Hutchinson Community College men's golf team lost a little bit of ground in the team chase and is in sixth place after 36 holes, trailing leader Indian Hills by 12 strokes.

Round 3 will be on Thursday at Sand Creek Station with the Blue Dragon tee times from 11:40 p.m. to 12:20 p.m. The Dragons will again be paired Eastern Florida State and Tyler.

The Blue Dragons made a six-stroke improvement from Tuesday, shooting a 7-over 295. The Dragons counted scores from Hatzenbuehler (71), Corey Scullion (74), Hugo Duquaine (75) and Jack Northgraves (75).

Indian Hills shot a 291 on Tuesday and leads the tournament at 584. McLennan shot the low round of the tournament on Wednesday at 281 and is three strokes behind the Warriors. Central Alabama is third at 590 after a second-round 290.

The Blue Dragons are still within striking distance with two rounds remaining. Hutchinson is just five strokes out of fourth place and six strokes out of third.

Hatzenbuehler recorded birdies on holes 3, 9 and 18 and had an eagle on the par-5 16 hole. His fifth eagle of his freshman season. Hatzenbuehler is now one of three Blue Dragons in the Top 20. Hatzenbuehler is tied for 18th at 149.

Duquaine is still the low Dragon individual through two rounds at 147. Duquaine had three birdies and six bogeys, including four bogeys on the back nine.

Northgraves is tied with Hatzenbuehler for 18th after a 75 on Wednesday. Northgraves was 6-over par for the round through 12 holes, but finished the round at 3-under with three birdies over the final six holes.
