👟 Blue Dragon men have quiet Day 1 in New Mexico

Hutchinson CC Sports Information

HOBBS, New Mexico – The Hutchinson Community College men's track and field team didn't score any points on Day 1 of the NJCAA Division I Track and Field Championships at the Ross Black Track and Field Complex.

Hutchinson athletes competed in six events on opening day.

Sophomore Gregery Martinez tied a PR in the pole vault with a clearance of 14 feet, 5 1/2 inches (4.41 meters) and placed 11th overall.

Sophomore Dennis Cheruiyot had the top finish on Day 1 for the Blue Dragons. Cheruiyot placed ninth in the 10,000 meters on Thursday morning with a time of 33:05.75.

The Blue Dragon 4x100-meter relay team placed 10th in Thursday's preliminary round. The relay of Lushane BlakeGiavonni JonesDa'Shawn Lester and Kebba Makalo placed 10th with a time of 40.29 seconds.

Other Blue Dragon Day 1 results:

Wesley Gill was 16th in the javelin with a top throw of 156-11 (47.82 meters).

Colby Moler was 17th in the javelin at 153-10 (46.90 meters).

Miguel Gaisah Essuman was 13th in the long jump at 23-6 1/2 (7.18 meters).

Keith Rogers was 23rd in the 400-meter hurdle preliminaries with a time of 57.28 seconds.
