⚾ Wilson, Wildcats blank Trojans to roll into regional semifinals

MOUNDRIDGE, Kan. — No. 3 Moundridge scored in each of the first four innings Thursday, rolling past No. 14 Marais des Cygnes Valley 11-0 in five innings in a Class 2-1A baseball regional quarterfinal.

Clay Wilson led the Wildcats on the mound, throwing five scoreless innings. He allowed two hits, struck out nine and walked four.

Moundridge took a 1-0 lead in the first inning when Logan Greenwalt scored on Finn Lintecum’s groundout. The Wildcats added a run in the second when Cooper Schmidt scored on a passed ball.

Moundridge broke the game open with four runs in the third. Atley Lichti delivered the big hit with a single that helped score three runs, and he later scored on a passed ball to make it 6-0.

The Wildcats added five more runs in the fourth. Lintecum drove in Greenwalt with a groundout, Layton Schmidt singled in Wilson, Lichti doubled in Schmidt, and Cooper Schmidt singled in Lichti. Cooper Schmidt later scored on a wild pitch to make it 11-0.

Lichti led Moundridge at the plate, going 2 for 3 with a double, three RBIs and two runs scored. Wilson went 2 for 3 with a double and two runs scored, while Cooper Schmidt went 2 for 3 with an RBI and two runs. Lintecum drove in two runs.

Landon Reed and Chase Vogeler had the two hits for Marais des Cygnes Valley. Ty Calderwood took the loss, allowing 11 runs on seven hits in four innings.

Moundridge improved to 19-6 and will play No. 6 Uniontown at 2 p.m. Tuesday in Moran. Uniontown, now 13-10, defeated No. 11 Lebo-Waverly 11-3 on Thursday.
