<i></i>MANHATTAN, Kan.&nbsp;– The eyes of the college football world will be on Kansas State as the Wildcats kick off the 2025 college football season with the Aer Lingus College Football Classic against Iowa State kicking off at 11 a.m. (CT), 5 p.m. (GMT) and be televised by ESPN, the network announced Tuesday during the Disney Ad Sales Upfront.

This is the first time since 2010 against UCLA that K-State will open its season on ESPN. This is just the second time in the 129-year history of the program that the Wildcats will play abroad (1992 in Tokyo, Japan vs. Nebraska).

The Wildcats and Cyclones are meeting on a neutral-site field for just the third time in the 108-game series. Kansas State took both games of a two-game series at Arrowhead Stadium in 2009 and 2010.

Game times for Kansas State's non-conference games in 2025 will be announced in the coming weeks.&nbsp;&nbsp;

NEW YORK (AP) — Pete Rose and Shoeless Joe Jackson were reinstated by baseball Commissioner Rob Manfred on Tuesday, making both eligible for the sport’s Hall of Fame after their careers were tarnished by sports gambling scandals.

Rose’s permanent ban was lifted eight months&nbsp;<a href="https://apnews.com/article/pete-rose-obituary-reds-e0f3dfa057fc46629447e04b6540e4c8">after his death</a>&nbsp;and came a day before the Cincinnati Reds will honor baseball’s career hits leader with Pete Rose Night.

Manfred announced Tuesday that he was changing the league's policy on permanent ineligibility, saying bans would expire at death. Several others will also have their status changed by the ruling, including all members of the 1919 Chicago Black Sox, former Philadelphia Phillies president Williams D. Cox and former New York Giants outfielder Benny Kauff.

Under the Hall of Fame’s current rules, the earliest Rose or Jackson could be inducted would be in 2028.

Rose agreed to a permanent ban on Aug. 23, 1989, following an investigation commissioned by Major League Baseball concluded Rose repeatedly bet on the Reds as a player and manager of the team from 1985-87, a violation of a long-standing MLB rule.

Rose first applied for reinstatement in September 1997, but Commissioner Bud Selig never ruled on the request.&nbsp;<a href="https://apnews.com/general-news-b8d15e433f68468eab7030a08ed47c09">Manfred in 2015 rejected a petition for reinstatement</a>, saying “Rose has not presented credible evidence of a reconfigured life.”

<a href="https://apnews.com/article/pete-rose-obituary-reds-e0f3dfa057fc46629447e04b6540e4c8">Rose died Sept. 30 at age 83</a>, and a new petition was filed Jan. 8 by Jeffrey Lenkov, a lawyer who represented Rose. Lenkov and Rose’s daughter Fawn had met with Manfred on Dec. 17.

Rose’s supporters have included U.S. President Donald Trump, who has said he intends to pardon Rose posthumously.&nbsp;<a href="https://apnews.com/article/pete-rose-reinstatement-00a2532eeb4f1aa3dd81530260de44b8">Manfred discussed Rose with Trump</a>&nbsp;when the pair met in April, but he hasn’t disclosed specifics of their conversation.

In a letter to Lenkov, Manfred wrote, “In my view, a determination must be made regarding how the phrase ‘permanently ineligible’ should be interpreted in light of the purposes and policies behind Rule 21, which are to: (1) protect the game from individuals who pose a risk to the integrity of the sport by prohibiting the participation of such individuals; and (2) create a deterrent effect that reduces the likelihood of future violations by others.

"In my view, once an individual has passed away, the purposes of Rule 21 have been served. Obviously, a person no longer with us cannot represent a threat to the integrity of the game. Moreover, it is hard to conceive of a penalty that has more deterrent effect than one that lasts a lifetime with no reprieve. Therefore, I have concluded that permanent ineligibility ends upon the passing of the disciplined individual, and Mr. Rose will be removed from the permanently ineligible list.”

A 17-time All-Star during a playing career from 1963-86, Rose holds record for hits (4,256), games (3,562), at-bats (14,053), plate appearances (15,890) and singles (3,215). He was the 1963 NL Rookie of the Year, 1973 MVP and 1975 World Series MVP. A three-time NL batting champion, he broke the prior hits record of 4,191 set by Ty Cobb from 1905-28.

“Pete is one of the greatest players in baseball history, and Reds Country will continue to celebrate him as we always have," Reds owner Bob Castellini said. “We are especially happy for the Rose family to receive this news and what this decision could mean for them and all of Pete’s fans.”

Jackson was a .356 career hitter who was among the eight Black Sox banned for throwing the 1919 World Series. He died in 1951, but he remains one of baseball's most recognizable names in part for his depiction by Ray Liotta in the 1989 movie Field of Dreams.

What else needs to happen for Rose or Jackson to reach the Hall of Fame?

Under a rule adopted by the Hall’s board of directors in 1991, anyone on the permanently ineligible list can’t be&nbsp;<a href="https://apnews.com/article/rose-hall-of-fame-d3da8832097f2717590096d68600fee4">considered for election</a>&nbsp;to the Hall. Jackson was twice considered on ballots by the Baseball Writers' Association of America, but received just 0.9% in 1936 and 1% of a nominating vote in 1940.

Rose’s reinstatement occurred too late for him to be considered for the BBWAA ballot. If not on the permanently banned list, Rose would have been eligible on the ballots each from 1992 through 2006. He was written in on 41 votes in 1992 and on 243 of 7,232 ballots (3.4%) over the 15 years, votes that were not counted.

Hall of Fame Chairman of the Board Jane Forbes Clark said in a statement that players affected by Manfred's ruling Tuesday would be considered.

“The National Baseball Hall of Fame has always maintained that anyone removed from Baseball’s permanently ineligible list will become eligible for Hall of Fame consideration,” she said. “Major League Baseball’s decision to remove deceased individuals from the permanently ineligible list will allow for the Hall of Fame candidacy of such individuals to now be considered."

Without the ban, both players are eligible for the Hall’s Classic Baseball Era, which next meets to consider players in December 2027 and considers those whose greatest contributions to the sport were before 1980.

A 10-person historical overview committee selects the eight ballot candidates with the approval of the Hall’s board and the ballot is considered by 16 members at the winter meetings, with a 75% or higher vote needed. The committee members include Hall of Fame members, team executives and media/historians.

Among the players in the 2028 class eligible for the BBWAA ballot are Albert Pujols and Yadier Molina.

Trump has said he would pardon Rose, but it’s not clear what a presidential pardon for Rose would entail.

HUTCHINSON, Kan. — More than 700 student-athletes from 35 teams across the country will converge on Hutchinson Community College this week as the 2025 NJCAA Division I National Outdoor Track &amp; Field Championships return to Gowans Stadium, May 15-17.

This year marks the eighth time since 2009 and the first since 2017, that Gowans Stadium will serve as host for the national event.

Dr. Brett Monaghan, NJCAA vice president for championships, membership and sports governance, said the Hutchinson community and college continue to set the standard for hosting national events.

“Running any national championship is a big undertaking, but track and field especially requires extensive coordination,” Monaghan said. “Certainly the team at Hutchinson — Steve Carpenter, Josh Gooch and the staff — are well-prepared. They’ve hosted NJCAA events before, and there’s a lot of confidence in what they bring.”

The three-day meet will feature over 20 events in both men’s and women’s competition, from sprints and distance races to jumps and throws. Qualification standards ensure that only the top athletes compete, with approximately 16 individuals per event.

“You really do see future Olympians at this meet,” Monaghan said. “The level of athleticism is tremendous, and it’s a testament to the coaches who recruit and develop these student-athletes.”

The competition begins Thursday morning with combined events and field competitions at both Gowans Stadium and Fairgrounds Park, followed by relay and distance finals in the evening. Action continues Friday with preliminary rounds and more field events, before the championships wrap up Saturday with event finals and the awards presentation.

Monaghan praised the community's support, from HutchCC staff to Visit Hutch and local volunteers.

“Hutch is a special place,” Monaghan said. “Every time I come here, I’m impressed by the people who get involved. They want what’s best for the student-athletes, and that’s what makes this event great.”

Tickets are $10 for a single-day adult pass and $5 for K-6. Children that are not yet in school are free.

👟 NJCAA Track & Field Championships begin Thursday

The Ark Valley Chisholm Trail League Division I and Heart of America held their league golf tournaments on Monday. Below are the results from the Hutch Post-area schools.

WICHITA, Kan. — Hutchinson High School placed third in the Ark Valley Chisholm Trail League Division I boys golf championship Monday at Pine Bay Golf Course, finishing behind Maize South and Maize.

Maize South cruised to the team title with a score of 308, placing all six of its golfers in the top 10. The Mavericks were led by medalist Joe Binger, who shot a 3-over-par 73 to claim individual honors. Colten Hoover (76) and Conrad Parkhurst (77) followed closely to complete a dominant top-three sweep.

Hutchinson carded a team score of 349 to take third place, edging Derby (354) and Valley Center (356) in a tightly contested race. The Salthawks finished two strokes behind Maize (347), which finished in second. Senior Mitchell Rice led the Salthawks with an 84, tying for 10th overall. Tate England shot an 87, while Alex Haas (88), Landyn Powell (90), Kevin Wilson (93) and Maks Dreiling (93) rounded out the scoring for Hutchinson.

HESSTON, Kan. — Trinity Catholic claimed the Heart of America League boys golf championship in dominant fashion Monday at Hesston Golf Course, firing a team score of 310.

The Celtics placed all six golfers in the top nine, each earning first-team all-league honors. Lincoln Barnes claimed the individual title after defeating teammate Ian Shaw in a two-hole playoff after each shot a 4-over-par 75. This is the second straight HOA league title for Barnes. Trinity also received matching rounds of 80 from Miles Blaylock and Tyler Casebolt, while Seamus Hogan (86) and Matt Armour (87) rounded out a deep lineup that finished 42 strokes ahead of runner-up Sterling.

Sterling posted a 352 to take second place, led by Cameron Morris with an 83 and supported by Waylon Schmidt and Wyatt Newberry, who each shot 89. Lane Weigel added a 91.

Sedgwick finished fourth with a team score of 409, highlighted by Keighan Earles’ sixth-place finish at 85. Teammates Renley&nbsp;Eggleston (104), Wyatt ReQua (110), Abby Banta (110), and Nate Hansen (113) contributed to the Cardinals’ total.

Inman took fifth at 419. Braeden Stutzman led the Teutons with a 92, followed by Creighton Friesen (97) and Keetan McEuen (111).

PRATT, Kan. — The Pratt Greenbacks claimed the Central Kansas League boys golf title on Monday at Park Hills Golf Course. The Greenbacks were led by individual champion, Grant McAtee.&nbsp;

McAtee shot an even-par 72 to win individual honors, while teammates Beau Ferrell (77) and Quinton Humble (80) finished second and third, respectively, to help the Greenbacks finish 10 strokes ahead of runner-up Hesston (334).

Hesston placed three golfers in a tie for fourth. Austin Penner, Aiden Bridgeman and Eli Frantz all carded rounds of 82. Grant Waterson and Eli Roth each shot 88 to round out the Swathers’ scoring.

Halstead finished fifth in the team standings with a 388. Wesley Parks led the Dragons with an 87, good for eighth place overall. Maxx Linton shot 98 and Lance Anderson added a 99.

Nickerson placed seventh with a 434. Kyler Nikkel led the Panthers with a 103, followed by Addrick Nelson at 108 and Jacob Myers at 109.

Hoisington took third place as a team (358), led by Logan Cossel’s seventh-place 84 and two other top-15 finishers in Nolan Jacobs (87) and Karson Kinman (92). Hillsboro was fourth at 383, paced by Lincoln Wichert’s 91.

<p>Box wasn't the only Blue Dragon to earn PING postseason honors on Monday night.&nbsp;<a href="https://www.bluedragonsports.com/sports/mgolf/2024-25/bios/northgraves_jack_mp7b">Jack Northgraves</a>&nbsp;was named to the 2025 PING All-Freshman team. Box, Northgraves and freshman Corey Scullion were named to the PING All-Central District Team.</p>
<p>Head coach Chris Young was named a finalist for the Dave Williams Coach of the Year award.</p>
<p>Box has been one of the top-ranked NJCAA Division I golfers all season. This spring, Box won both the Jayhawk Conference and Region 6 individual championships and tied for fourth in the Plains District Championship.</p>
<p>Box has four overall tournament championships this season, winning the NJCAA National Preview and the Sam Proal Classic in the fall season. Box has placed in the Top 10 in 9 of 11 overall tournaments this season.</p>
<p>During the first round of the Jayhawk Conference Championship at Colbert Hills in Manhattan, Box shot a school- and course-record 62.<br />Last season, Box was a PING All-American honorable mention. He joins, Charlie Crockett, Harry Crockett and Ben Partridge as PING All-Americans in back-to-back seasons.</p>
<p>Box is the 18th all-time Blue Dragon to earn PING All-America honors.</p>
<p>Northgraves is ranked No. 19 in the nation this season and ranked No. 5 in the Central District. He won the Iowa Western Bent Tree Classic in September and has four Top 10 finishes this season. Northgraves earned first-team All-KJCCC honors with a fourth-place finish in the conference championship.</p>
<p>Scullion has earned three-straight Top 10 finishes, including tying for fourth in the Central District Championship at Tiffany Greens in Kansas City, Missouri. He earned second-team All-KJCCC honors with a sixth-place performance in the conference tournament and was second-team all-Region 6 after placing eighth at Sand Creek Station.</p>
<p>Young led the 2024-25 Blue Dragons to five team championships and seven Top-3 finishes this season. The Blue Dragons qualified for their 24th-straight NJCAA Tournament appearance with a third-place performance in the Central District Championship</p>
<p><strong>2025 NJCAA Tournament</strong><br />The Blue Dragons enter the 2025 Division I Championships ranked No. 3 in the nation. The Blue Dragons will be paired with No. 1 Midland and No. 2 Odessa for rounds 1 and 2 on Tuesday and Wednesday. The Blue Dragons will tee off between 12:40 and 1:20 p.m. on Wednesday.</p>
<p>The Blue Dragon lineup will have Northgraves,&nbsp;<a href="https://www.bluedragonsports.com/sports/mgolf/2024-25/bios/walker_tyler_ijcw">Tyler Walker</a>, Scullion,&nbsp;<a href="https://www.bluedragonsports.com/sports/mgolf/2024-25/bios/ross_louis_6g3i">Louis Ross</a>&nbsp;and Box with&nbsp;<a href="https://www.bluedragonsports.com/sports/mgolf/2024-25/bios/schultz_cal_h6x5">Cal Schultz</a>&nbsp;as a substitute.</p>

<p>One year ago, the Hutchinson Community College baseball team made a magical run in the Plains District (Region 6) Tournament that went all the way to the second championship game.</p>
<p>The Blue Dragons hope to take that extra step this season when the eight-team, double-elimination 2025 Plains District Tournament opens on Tuesday at Dean Evans Stadium in Salina.</p>

<p>The fifth-seeded Blue Dragons (39-19) will play No. 4-seed Cowley (43-10) in the fourth opening-round game of the day at 7 p.m. on Tuesday.</p>
<p>The Hutchinson-Cowley winner will play the Barton-Coffeyville winner at 7 p.m. on Wednesday in a winner's bracket game. The Blue Dragon-Tiger loser will meet the Cougar-Red Raven loser in an elimination game at 1 p.m. on Wednesday.</p>
<p>The other opening-round matchups are: 10 a.m. &ndash; No. 3 Cloud County vs. No. 6 Kansas City; 1 p.m. &ndash; No. 2 Johnson County vs. No. 10 Fort Scott; 4 p.m. &ndash; No. 1 Barton vs. No. 8 Coffeyville.</p>
<p>The Plains District championship game is set for 4 p.m. on Friday with an If Necessary game at 1 p.m. on Saturday. The Plains District winner qualifies for the 2025 NJCAA World Series in Grand Junction, Colorado.</p>
<p>The Blue Dragons and Tigers meet twice in the 2025 regular season. Hutchinson lost 6-4 on March 11 at Hobart-Detter Field and 17-3 on April 28 at Arkansas City.</p>
<p>In the 2024 Plains District Tournament at Eck Stadium in Wichita, the Blue Dragons eliminated the Tigers 8-6 in a third-round elimination game.</p>
<p>Tuesday's meeting will be the ninth postseason meeting between Hutchinson and Cowley dating back to when the current postseason format began in 2004. The postseason series between the Blue Dragons and Tigers is tied at 4-4.</p>
<p>All games will be available on videostream on the KJCCC Network, which is a pay-per-view service. Admission to Dean Evans Stadium in $10 per day.</p></div>

Football fans can plan on wrapping up Christmas with an AFC West rivalry that could come with plenty of playoff implications.

The Kansas City Chiefs will host the Denver Broncos on Christmas at 8:15 p.m. ET on Prime Video, the NFL announced on Monday.

Kansas City has dominated the AFC West over the last decade, winning nine straight division titles from 2016-2024, but Denver's rise to prominence under Sean Payton in 2024 suggests the going may not be as easy for the Chiefs in 2025. With&nbsp;<a href="https://www.nfl.com/players/bo-nix/">Bo Nix</a>&nbsp;and a collection of talent at his disposal, Payton's Broncos are aiming to take the next step by challenging for a throne that the Chiefs have claimed annually for the entirety of&nbsp;<a href="https://www.nfl.com/players/patrick-mahomes/">Patrick Mahomes</a>' career.

If they reach the holidays with a chance to accomplish that goal, the matchup will make for a highly intriguing closer for the Christmas Day slate.

Chiefs to host Broncos on Christmas night 

HOUSTON (AP) — Bobby Witt Jr. and Jonathan India each drove in two runs to help Michael Wacha and the Kansas City Royals beat the Houston Astros 7-5 on Monday night.

Michael Massey homered as Kansas City improved to 8-2 in its last 10 games. India finished with three hits, and Witt, Vinnie Pasquantino and Kyle Isbel each had two.

Wacha (3-4) allowed two runs and eight hits in 6 1/3 innings. Carlos Estévez got three outs for his 12th save.

Massey sparked Kansas City's four-run second with a leadoff drive against rookie Ryan Gusto (3-2) for his second homer. India hit a two-out RBI single and scored on Witt's first triple of the season. Pasquantino added a run-scoring single.

The Royals added three more in the third. Drew Waters and India each hit an RBI single, and Witt drove in Waters with a sacrifice fly.

Jake Meyers had two hits and scored two runs for Houston, which had won three of four.

Zach Dezenzo hit an RBI double in the seventh for the Astros, and Jeremy Peña added a sacrifice fly. Meyers' RBI single helped his team close to 7-5 in the eighth.

Gusto allowed seven hits and walked three in 2 1/3 innings.

Jose Altuve hit a leadoff single in the ninth for Houston. But Isaac Paredes flied out, Christian Walker struck out and Yainer Diaz flied out.

Wacha entered with the least run support among starters at 1.79 runs per game. The Royals had not scored more than two runs with him on the mound in any of his eight starts.

LHP Kris Bubic (4-2, 1.69 ERA) starts on Tuesday for the Royals against LHP Framber Valdez (2-4, 3.94 ERA).

His experience and success playing for the Shockers gives him a unique perspective. He will add immediate value to our basketball program and I'm glad, after all these years as a player, that he will continue to give his talents as a coach."<br /><br />Couisnard, a Houston native, makes his return to Wichita State after a standout playing career for the Shockers from 2003-08 that included a 2006 Missouri Valley Conference title and Sweet 16 appearance. He scored more than 1,300 career points and is the only Shocker to record 1,300 points, 600 rebounds, 300 assists, 98 blocks and 140 steals.<br /><br />Following his playing days at Wichita State, Couisnard returned to Houston where he built one of the more successful AAU programs, Cooz Elite. Since 2018, he has also served as the boys basketball coach at Legacy School of Sport Sciences, where he's coached several NCAA Division I prospects.<br /><br />Couisnard graduated with a bachelor's degree in general studies from Wichita State in 2008.<br /><br />His wife, Tiana Jones-Couisnard, ran track at Wichita State. There will be seven international games in five countries, including three in England, one in Germany, one in Brazil and the first-ever games in&nbsp;<a href="https://apnews.com/article/miami-dolphins-madrid-spain-nfl-e97aefbb45fed3006330cc679a2793db">Spain</a>&nbsp;and&nbsp;<a href="https://apnews.com/article/nfl-dublin-2025-ireland-steelers-07d3f607b8c9caa43d638db39255b5fc">Ireland</a>.

The Jaguars, Jets and Browns are the designated home teams for the&nbsp;<a href="https://apnews.com/article/browns-jaguars-jets-london-1ab1da4c589d154f6a0e1873fc1938ff">three games in London</a>. The Colts are playing in Berlin, the Chargers in São Paulo, the Dolphins in Madrid and the Steelers in Dublin.

A triple-header on Christmas Day is among the highlights.

For the second time in three years, these two teams will play a Super Bowl rematch at Arrowhead Stadium.&nbsp;<a href="https://apnews.com/article/super-bowl-2025-eagles-chiefs-score-e2ff209c074a00a6faff39750ff048f8">Philadelphia dominated Kansas City</a>&nbsp;in the Super Bowl in February with Jalen Hurts earning the MVP award. Patrick Mahomes and the Chiefs beat the Eagles in the Super Bowl after the 2022 season but Philly won the rematch on the road the following November.

Mahomes and Josh Allen face off again in a rematch of the AFC championship game. Allen and the Bills have defeated Mahomes and the Chiefs four straight times in the regular season, but Kansas City has won all four playoff matchups between the two rivals over the past five years. The game will be played in Buffalo.

Ben Johnson leads the Bears against his former team after guiding one of the league’s most prolific offenses in Detroit. Johnson was the Lions’ offensive coordinator for three seasons. The team led the NFL in scoring in 2024, setting a franchise record with an average of 33.2 points per game.

Assuming Aaron Rodgers joins Pittsburgh, he’ll get a chance to face his former team after a contentious departure from New York. Rodgers, a four-time NFL MVP in Green Bay, said he felt disrespected by Jets coach Aaron Glenn after flying from California for a face-to-face meeting only to be told minutes into the conversation that the team didn’t want him.

New Patriots&nbsp;<a href="https://apnews.com/article/mike-vrabel-new-england-patriots-6ccb261ca025911432bfe19226544401">coach Mike Vrabel</a>&nbsp;faces his former team in Tennessee. Vrabel was Coach of the Year with the Titans in 2021 and was fired after the 2023 season.

The matchup many fans wanted to see in the NFC championship game last season but it didn’t pan out because the Commanders knocked off the No. 1 seed on the road at Detroit. The Eagles beat the Lions 38-35 the most recent time the teams met in Week 1 of the 2022 season.

Lamar Jackson is 1-4 against Mahomes, including a home loss in the AFC championship game in January 2024. The Chiefs kicked off last season with a 27-20 victory over the Ravens after a potential game-tying TD catch by Isaiah Likely was overturned and his toe was ruled out of bounds.

Former Hutchinson Community College men’s basketball coach Steve McClain has joined Rick Barnes’ staff at the University of Tennessee as an assistant coach.

McClain, 62, served as head coach at Hutchinson from 1991 to 1994, leading the Blue Dragons to the NJCAA national championship in his final season.

KANSAS CITY, Kan. (AP) — Kyle Larson took most of the drama out of his second straight spring victory at Kansas Speedway on Sunday.

After putting his No. 5 car on the pole for Hendrick Motorsports, Larson led 221 of 267 laps, winning both stages and cruising to his third NASCAR Cup Series win of the season. He was never challenged down the stretch by second-finishing Christopher Bell — and he most certainly didn't need another last-lap pass to win at the wire&nbsp;<a href="https://apnews.com/article/nascar-cup-series-kansas-speedway-preview-967ee45b5ee1abcc8af0dcefebae0a4d">like he did a year ago</a>.

The margin over Chris Buescher then was 0.001 seconds, the closest in Cup Series history. It was 0.712 seconds on Sunday.

“Glad to not win by an inch this time,” Larson said with a smile. “A little safer gap.”

Larson, who also has wins at Homestead and Bristol, has finished in the top four in each of his past four Cup Series races, and now he will take that momentum to Indianapolis Motor Speedway. Larson will be on track Tuesday as he begins another&nbsp;<a href="https://apnews.com/article/indy500-nascar-larson-double-1a4273e6b2bc03609b29962060d9d142">shot at “the Double”</a>&nbsp;— running every lap of the Indianapolis 500 and Coca-Cola 600 on the same day Memorial Day weekend.

Last year, he contended in the rain-delayed Indy 500 before&nbsp;<a href="https://apnews.com/article/indy500-nascar-larson-double-1a4273e6b2bc03609b29962060d9d142">a speeding penalty</a>&nbsp;on pit road resulted in an 18th-place finish. He then hopped a flight to Charlotte for the NASCAR race, but rain there kept him from ever completing a lap.

“It's a cool win here at Kansas,” Larson said in victory lane, “and now we'll try to execute two good weeks at Indy.”

Even though Larson spent most of a hot, sunny day at Kansas in the lead, he found himself trailing Chase Elliott early in the final stage. But when Elliott's team dropped the jack too soon before his right rear tire was on during a pit stop, Larson was able to get back to the front on the restart, and he spent the last 50 laps cruising to the checkered flag.

Bell, a three-time winner already, finished in the top three for the sixth time this season. Ryan Blaney came in third, giving Team Penske another good run after&nbsp;<a href="https://apnews.com/article/nascar-talladega-cindric-talladega-6ed884747f625a1cd96cf9d6a7a26bea">Austin Cindric won</a>&nbsp;two weeks ago at Talladega and&nbsp;<a href="https://apnews.com/article/nascar-texas-penske-logano-3d9d9da3488849b4bf2a3f0ed8a04b71">Joey Logano won</a>&nbsp;last week at Texas.

“I was just trying to get to the end. I know Ryan was coming on really strong there,” Bell said. “I feel like our day was kind of a product of qualifying well and having good pit stops and restarts.”

Blaney knew he was coming on strong, too, but he was left to lament what might have been.

“We were kind of running those guys down quick,” Blaney said. “A few more laps, I would have scared the 5 a bit at least.”

Chase Briscoe finished fourth and Larson's teammate Alex Bowman rounded out the top five.

Brad Keselowski looked as if he might finally have his first top-10 finish this season. He started from the rear but steadily made his way forward, and the 2012 series champion had moved into second behind Elliott when his right rear went down with 72 laps to go. Keselowski wound up in the wall, ending his hopes of contending.

“I mean, it was going to be a great day," Keselowski said. "I heard a big boom and around it went. It's unfortunate.”

Denny Hamlin also had a fast car all afternoon, but he wound up fighting a clutch problem that made pitting a nightmare. He was still running with the leaders before Keselowski's caution, when yet more clutch trouble finally ruined his day.

“Really fast again,” Hamlin said. “Just can't keep it together right now.”

There had been only one non-stage caution before Keselowski hit the wall. Cody Ware, Daniel Suarez and Ty Dillon brought out another in a wreck on the restart; Kyle Busch was bumped and spun to bring out another yellow on the next restart; and Justin Haley, Erik Jones and Bubba Wallace were involved in another wreck on a third consecutive restart.

Larson won for the 32nd time, and joined Hamlin and Busch as the only active Cup Series drivers to have led more than 10,000 laps. ... Briscoe was fourth for the fourth time this season. He has yet to finish better. ... Larson made it three straight wins for Chevrolet at Kansas Speedway. Ross Chastain won the fall race last season. ... Hamlin's streak of seven straight top-10s at Kansas ended. He finished 36th. ... Logano challenged for second late in the race before finishing ninth.

The All-Star Race is up next Sunday at North Wilkesboro, where Logano is the defending champ. There are changes to the format this year, including an optional promoter's caution flag, which could dramatically reshape the 250-lap race.

Kyle Larson wins again at Kansas, dominating for his 3rd NASCAR Cup Series win this season

&nbsp;HOUSTON --&nbsp;Wichita State took advantage of nine walks and five hit by pitches to pile up a season-high 18 runs in an 18-7 victory over Rice on Sunday afternoon at Reckling Park.

The game was called after eight innings due to the 10-run rule.

The Shockers (16-34, 8-16) scored in each of their final five innings, including big frames of four, five and seven runs. All nine Shockers scored a run and eight of the nine Shockers recorded a hit and an RBI.

All nine Shockers scored a run and eight of the nine Shockers recorded a hit and an RBI.</p><p>Wichita State trailed 2-0 into the top of the fourth inning and had yet to put a runner on second base against Rice starter Tucker Alch, but exploded for four runs to seize a 4-2 lead.&nbsp;<a href="https://goshockers.com/sports/baseball/roster/josh-livingston/9185">Josh Livingston</a>&nbsp;tied the game with a two-run home run for his 13th long ball of the season, then&nbsp;<a href="https://goshockers.com/sports/baseball/roster/mauricio-millan/9186">Mauricio Millan</a>&nbsp;kicked off a career day offensively with a go-ahead, two-run single that marked the end of the day for Alch.</p><p>Rice (17-35, 10-14) snatched the lead right back with a trio of two-out runs in the bottom of the inning. Colin Robson slapped an RBI single and Blaine Brown followed by slicing a two-run homer inside the left field foul pole to put the Owls back in front, 5-4.The lead was short lived, however, as Wichita State claimed the advantage for good with a huge seven-run fifth inning. The barrage included four bases-loaded walks, one bases-loaded hit by pitch and a run-scoring wild pitch. The Shockers had just two infield singles in the inning, but used the Rice charity to build an 11-5 lead.</p><p><a href="https://goshockers.com/sports/baseball/roster/jordan-rogers/9191">Jordan Rogers</a>&nbsp;smacked a solo homer in the top of the sixth and&nbsp;<a href="https://goshockers.com/sports/baseball/roster/zeb-henry/9413">Zeb Henry</a>&nbsp;lofted a sacrifice fly in the top of the seventh for a 13-5 margin. Rice got the two runs back in the bottom of the inning, but&nbsp;<a href="https://goshockers.com/sports/baseball/roster/jeremiah-arnett/9174">Jeremiah Arnett</a>&nbsp;stopped the bleeding by retiring the final three hitters of the inning.</p><p>The Shockers put the run rule into play with five runs in the top of the eighth, highlighted by another two-run single from Millan and a run-scoring double from&nbsp;<a href="https://goshockers.com/sports/baseball/roster/kam-durnin/9177">Kam Durnin</a>. Millan finished 2-for-3 with a career-high five RBI, while Livingston drove in three runs and Rogers scored four of his own.</p><p><a href="https://goshockers.com/sports/baseball/roster/colton-vercoe/9193">Colton Vercoe</a>&nbsp;(1-1) earned his first career win with 3.1 innings out of the Shocker bullpen, allowing six hits and five runs while striking out two.</p><p>Wichita State is back in action on Tuesday night against Oral Roberts. First pitch from Eck Stadium is scheduled for 6:00 p.m.</p>
