
ELLSWORTH, Kan. — The Lyons boys finished third Thursday at the North Central Activities Association league track and field meet at Ellsworth High School.
Southeast of Saline won the boys team title with 166 points, followed by Beloit with 151 and Lyons with 70. Republic County was fourth with 66, followed by Minneapolis with 46, Ellsworth with 26 and Salina Sacred Heart with 20.
Beloit won the girls team title with 203 points. Southeast of Saline was second with 123, followed by Ellsworth with 96, Salina Sacred Heart with 60, Republic County with 35, Minneapolis with 26 and Lyons with 13.
Lyons was led by David Pando, who won the boys 100 meters in 11.13 seconds and finished second in the 200 in 22.71. Pando also finished sixth in the long jump at 17 feet, 11.5 inches.
The Lions also picked up points from Xander Young, who finished fifth in the boys 100 in 11.69 and sixth in the 200 in 23.77. Yurem Ordonez was seventh in the 100 in 11.93 and fourth in the long jump at 18-1.75.
Lyons had several strong finishes in the relays. The Lions were third in the boys 4x100 relay in 45.20, third in the 4x400 relay in 3:38.37 and third in the 4x800 relay in 8:53.46.
Jace Thompson added a fourth-place finish in the boys 400 in 52.87, while Jose Recendiz finished fifth in the 300 hurdles in 45.41. Aaron Villasenor was fourth in the 1,600 in 4:54.11, Cain Villasenor was seventh in the 800 in 2:11.71, and Juan Enriquez was ninth in the 800 in 2:14.38.
In the field events, Hendrix Starbuck finished second in the boys discus with a throw of 159-10 and ninth in the shot put at 39-4. Elie Jaske was fifth in the javelin at 135-6, 14th in the shot put and 16th in the discus. Edgard Morales took fourth in the triple jump at 36-2 and 11th in the 1,600.
On the girls side, Greta Showalter led Lyons with a fourth-place finish in the 100 hurdles in 17.72 and a sixth-place finish in the javelin at 104-9. Taylor Baxter finished fifth in both hurdle races, running 17.97 in the 100 hurdles and 51.87 in the 300 hurdles. Kaitlyn Moore was seventh in the 300 hurdles, and the Lions finished fourth in the girls 4x100 relay in 54.17.
