Randy Gale Dacus, 66, of Canton, Kansas, passed away Saturday, July 8, 2023 at his residence. Randy was born in Farmington, New Mexico on April 11, 1957, a son of Lanny Gale and Merlene Almeda (Whitener) Dacus. Randy attended and graduated from Leon-Bluestem High School, Leon, Kansas. Randy took great pride in being a hard worker. He spent the majority of his working career at CHS Refinery, working first as a pipefitter rigger, and later was promoted to maintenance supervisor. Randy never knew a stranger. He would greet you with a unique one-liner and after a short conversation, he would give you a special “Randy nickname.” Randy loved rock crawling the Colorado mountains in his Toyota Landcruiser. He &nbsp;loved working on cars and teaching his children and grandchildren to drive and life hacks in general…probably at a far too young age. Ironically, he loved to go on elk hunting trips, but it was probably more to be with friends. Randy’s love for his animals, children, friends and family were what he lived for and will be remembered for most. Randy was united in marriage to Joni Seglem on July 25, 1983 in El Dorado, Kansas. The couple established their first home together in El Dorado and through their journey together, they raised four children, Brandi, Melissa, Kati, and Chris. Randy is survived &nbsp;by his children; Brandi Chadwell and her husband Allan, of Towanda, Kansas; Melissa Hoppes and her husband Zac, of McPherson, Kansas; Kati Dees and her husband Jess, of McPherson, Kansas; Chris Dacus and his wife Kena, of Galva, Kansas; his mother, Merlene Dacus, of Pauls Valley, Oklahoma; his siblings Debra Sanders, of Mcloud, Oklahoma, and Dave Dacus, of Fort Collins, Colorado. He is also survived by his 10 grandchildren: Kyler, Kaleb, Cooper, Conner, Malia, Jrake, Reed, Hayes, Liam, Demi, and one great-granddaughter, Romee. Randy was preceded in death by his father; his nephew, Wesley Bell, and other distant relatives. Randy Gale Dacus |1957-2023|

Kelly Joe Minerd, 67, went to be with his Lord and Savior on Saturday, July 1, 2023. He was born in Ransom, Kansas on January 20, 1956 to Don E. and Margaret (Jarrell) Minerd. The family lived in Ness City, Kansas until he was 7, then moved to Wichita in 1963.&nbsp; He attended Valley Center schools, graduating in 1974. While in High School he was an outstanding basketball player and held the high scoring record for 30 years.

He worked for the Wichita Public School District 259 for 31 years before retiring. He was the Building Maintenance Supervisor at East High School.&nbsp; He was an animal lover, enjoyed hunting, fishing and gardening. His greatest love was his family and his grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents Don and Margaret, his brothers Michael Minerd and Kevin Minerd.

Kelly is survived by his son Cole, daughter Lindsey, sister Kathy Mertins, brother Patrick, 9 grandchildren, many nieces, nephews, other family and friends.

A Memorial Service will be held 11:00 a.m., Friday, July 14th at Baker Funeral Home, 100 S. Cedar, Valley Center, Kansas. Memorials may be designated in Kelly's memory to the&nbsp; Union Rescue Mission, 2800 N. Hillside, Wichita, Ks 67219-4702.

Carl C. Stelter, 95, of Haven, Kansas, passed away Sunday, July 9, 2023 at Legends of Hutchinson. He was born November 15, 1927 in Haven, the son of Carl W. and Pauline (Dierks) Stelter.

Carl graduated from Haven High School with the class of 1946 and was drafted and served in the United States Army from 1946-1948. He later served from 1950-1953, attaining the rank of Sergeant. Carl served during WWII and the Korean War.

He was united in marriage to Lila Jean Dickerson on January 1, 1952 in Huntsville, Arkansas. She preceded him in death on May 3, 2021.

Carl owned and operated Stelter Standard Service and later worked for the Panhandle Eastern Pipe Line Co.

He was a member of the Haven United Methodist Church. Carl was also a member of the Haven American Legion Post, and was very active at the Haven Golf Course, often found planting trees and mowing.

Carl is survived by his daughters, Carla (Monte) Long of South Hutchinson, Debra (David) Craighead of Fulton, Missouri, and Kathie Hathaway of Ottawa; son, Kurt (Dana) Stelter of Wichita; five grandchildren, Brooke Kirmer of Wichita, Chad (Libby) Long of Maize, Adam Hathaway of Lawrence, Andrea (Tyler) Fredricks of Ottawa, and Garrett Stelter of Wichita; and six great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; daughter, Sherri Kirmer Stringer; and 12 siblings.

Graveside services will be held at 1 p.m., Thursday, July 13, 2023 at Laurel Cemetery, Haven, Kansas with military honors. Family will greet friends from 5 to 7 p.m., Wednesday, July 12, at Ott Funeral Home, Haven. Jeanette (Jen) Nixon&nbsp;, 68 of Newton, Kansas passed away Sunday, July 2 at Newton Medical Center. &nbsp;She was born July 16,1954 in Wolf Point, Montana, the daughter of CL and Lydia (Pankratz) Derksen. &nbsp;

&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;Jen was a knitter, gardener and &nbsp;K-State Football fan. &nbsp;She enjoyed cross stitching, cooking, collecting antiques, artfully arranging things and living life. &nbsp;She always had a dog, most recently Fred, a basset hound.

&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;Jen graduated from Hesston College (74) and Tabor (76) with a Bachelors in Social Work. &nbsp;She then went to California for a few years, then worked in La Junta, Colorado &nbsp;at the VA. &nbsp;It was here she met and married Nick Nixon&nbsp;(Oct 21, 1978) . Then she moved to Grand Junction, Colorado working at the VA and later the Regional Center where she eventually became the head QA of Social work. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;

In 2008 she retired and moved to Kansas to be closer to extended family. &nbsp;She is survived by her son Brian (Michelle) Nixon.&nbsp;

Robert E. Smalley 96, died July 10, 2023 at his Newton residence. He was born July 27, 1926 in Newton, Kansas to Eugene O and Abbie (Powell) Smalley. He married Carroll Royston at First United Methodist Church in Newton and she preceded him in death on December 1, 2018.

Robert was a long time active member of the First United Methodist Church in Newton. He owned and operated Smalley's T.V. and Maritime repair as well as selling real estate through Smalley Realty. &nbsp;He served his country in WWII in the Merchant Marines.

He is survived by his daughter Susan (Leon) Scott; sons mike (Kendra) Smalley and David (Barbara) Smalley; one brother Norman (Barbara) Smalley. He is also survived by 15 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren.

Robert is preceded in death by his parents, wife, one son Jeff Smalley and one brother Jack Smalley

Funeral service will be 10:00 a.m., Monday, July 17, 2023 at First United Methodist Church in Newton with The Reverend Kim Andrews officiating. Visitation will be 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m., Sunday July 16, 2023 at Petersen Funeral Home. &nbsp;Burial will be in the Greenwood Cemetery Newton.

Patricia Ellen Hornbeck, 69, died July 7, 2023, at her home in Nickerson. She was born June 14, 1954, in Hutchinson, to Oscar and Colleen (Cavanaugh) Hornbeck.

Patty graduated from Hutchinson High School in 1972. She worked for many years as a banker at Central Bank and Trust and at retirement she was working for Jackson Meats, in Hutchinson. Patty enjoyed spending time outside, especially taking care of and perfecting her yard. She loved to spend time with her family.

Patty is survived by: husband, Rick Schuller, Nickerson; brothers, Dan Hornbeck (Pam), Hutchinson, Mike Hornbeck (Dana), Owasso, Oklahoma, Joe Hornbeck, Wichita; sister, Kathy Turner (Alan), Hutchinson; daughters, Lori Kaufman (Brandon), Amarillo, Texas, Jessica Pyles (Willie), Hutchinson; sons. Phil Schuller, Alaska, Mark Schuller, Colorado; nieces, Danette Dean (Kevin), Hutchinson, Chelsey Myrick (Josh), Hutchinson; 14 grandchildren; and five great grandchildren.

Cremation has taken place and a celebration of life will be held at a later date in Alaska.

Patricia Ellen Hornbeck |1954-2023|

John James Nisly (JJ), age 65, passed away peacefully on July 5, 2023 after a battle with cancer.

He was born in Hutchinson, KS on September 30, 1957, to John and Sylvia Nisly. &nbsp;He decided that Kansas was the place to live and at 20 years old, he went to Indiana to convince Hilda ‘Joy’ Miller of that as well. &nbsp;They were married in 1978, and eight years later they were proud parents to two girls, Lolita Miller (Joe), Roxie Heatwole (Dave), and two boys, Matt Nisly (Jackie), and Dale Nisly (Tash).

He was a very educated man, but wasn’t much for school. &nbsp;As a child, he learned most of his skills from his father as well as figuring them out himself. He was well known for his ability to repair Massey Ferguson combines, lawn mowers, and many brands of tractors. &nbsp;For 20 years, he owned Double J’s Agri-Service, and eventually transitioned to driving a semi-truck for ProVia Logistics.

In his early years he enjoyed playing softball and guitar. &nbsp;Later on, his hobbies included golf, woodworking and turning out pieces of art on his wood lathe.

He had a strong passion for teaching kids at the JAM (Jesus And Me) ministry, driving the JAM bus, serving and mentoring others, listening to worship music, and playing with his grandkids. &nbsp;His number one desire in life was to follow Jesus. &nbsp;His retirement goals of helping and serving others were cut short by his cancer illness. Despite spending many days going to doctor appointments and being required to rest, he rarely complained and made a conscious decision to “choose joy” no matter what the circumstance.

JJ is survived by: &nbsp;his wife, Joy; children, Lolita (Joe), Roxie (Dave), Matt (Jackie), Dale (Tash); siblings, Joye Miller (Ellis), Janie Ediger (Randy), Joan Yoder (Hank), Jeannie Miller (Tim), Dave Nisly (Pam); grandkids, Tasha and Jevon Miller, Asia, Lincoln and Kannon Heatwole, Alexa, Jovie, Easton and Callaway Nisly, and Jayda, Shay, and Chance Nisly. &nbsp;He was preceded in death by his parents.

A celebration of life will be held Monday, July 10 at 10:00 AM with burial to follow in the church cemetery. &nbsp;Public visitation hours are Sunday afternoon 2:00 - 4:00pm and 6:00 - 8:00pm. &nbsp;All services will take place at Plainview Mennonite Church located at 5610 W Trail West Rd, Hutchinson, KS. &nbsp;To view the service online, the link will be on the church’s website (https://www.plainviewchurch.com/) on the day of the service.

He was well known for his ability to repair Massey Ferguson combines, lawn mowers, and many brands of tractors. &nbsp;For 20 years, he owned Double J’s Agri-Service, and eventually transitioned to driving a semi-truck for ProVia Logistics.In his early years he enjoyed playing softball and guitar. &nbsp;Later on, his hobbies included golf, woodworking and turning out pieces of art on his wood lathe.He had a strong passion for teaching kids at the JAM (Jesus And Me) ministry, driving the JAM bus, serving and mentoring others, listening to worship music, and playing with his grandkids. &nbsp;His number one desire in life was to follow Jesus. &nbsp;His retirement goals of helping and serving others were cut short by his cancer illness. Rita was saved and joined the Baptist Church young. She was a lifetime resident of Ellinwood coming to town at age four. Rita graduated from Ellinwood High in 1975. She worked at Glassco manufacturing and later Woodhaven in Ellinwood. She was very talented at arts and crafts and enjoyed fixing things for others. Rita loved blessing her friends and family with handmade gifts. &nbsp;

Survivors include children, Daniel (Sierrah) Orndoff and Megan Orndoff; mother, June Stephens Hickel (Ron); sister, Sheila (Jim) Hacker; daughter-in-law, Christie Hamby; and grandchildren, Dalton and Davin Hamby.

Anna Marie Barker, 96, joined her husband, children, many relatives, and friends on July 5, 2023, in the big beautiful Heaven that we all seek after life on earth.

Anna was born on September 15, 1926, in Malony, Iowa, the daughter of Guy and Opal (Ash) Poore.

On February 14, 1945, Anna was united in marriage to Pearl Edmund Barker. The couple was married for 46 years when he preceded her in death on February 3, 1991.

For many years Anna worked as a certified nursing assistant, a job that she both enjoyed and was good at.

Anna loved crocheting blankets, collecting owls, and butterflies of all kinds.

Anna is survived by her children, Herman Barker, Kenneth (Rebecca) Barker, Larry Barker, Sharon Barker, and Sandra (Harry) Arnold; sister, Mary Howell; twelve grandchildren, thirty-four great-grandchildren, and ten great-great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Pearl Barker; father, Guy Poore and mother, Opal (Ash) Poore; step-mother, Ninca Poore; brothers, Earnest Poore and Richard Poore; sisters, Neva James and Katherine Layne; daughters, Linda Barker and Anna Mae Barker; son, Raymond Barker; daughter-in-law, Joletta Barker; daughter, Virginia Durrant; and son, Steven Barker.

She was born June 2, 1932, at Kingman the daughter of Clarence and Mildred McClure Belcher.  A longtime resident of the Kingman community, she was a professional business woman.

Naomi was a member of the Kingman Christian Church; the BPA, the Galaxy Credit Women’s Club, a former leader of the Hawk 4-H, and the Red Hats.

She was married Bob Schuchman; he precedes her in death.  Survivors include two sons, Mike and Don; daughter Deb Graber-Gonzalez; bonus children Cindy (Mark) Todd, Betty Ann (Watie) McGlothin and Janet Schuchman; brother Roland Belcher; sister-in-law Marilyn Belcher; grandchildren Aaron (Lisa) Byers, Jennifer (Chad) Shultz, Kirsta (Jim) Byers, and Clint (Erin) Graber; great-grandchildren Maliek Miller, Blake Shultz, Cara Shultz, Mason Graber, Olivia Graber, Kassandra McCluskie Lorielle McCluskie. Patricia A. Johnson, 84, of McPherson, KS, peacefully passed away on Thursday, July 6, 2023, surrounded by family at the McPherson Hospital.&nbsp; Patty was born on November 28, 1938, in McPherson, KS, the daughter of Elmer C.L. and Elizabeth Fern Martinson.

She graduated from McPherson High School in 1956 and Brown Mackie Business College in Salina, KS.&nbsp; On December 15, 1957, Patty was united in marriage to John LeRay Johnson at the New Gottland Lutheran Church.&nbsp; This union was blessed with three children, Jeff, Jackie, and Jerri.

Patty worked at Farmers Alliance, the McPherson County Appraiser’s Office, McPherson County Abstract, and was the office manager for the family business, Johnson Electric.

She was a member of New Gottland Covenant Church where she was a former church organist, a Sunday School teacher, &nbsp;and Vacation Bible School volunteer.&nbsp; She belonged to Covenant Women’s Group and was a longstanding member for almost 60 years in Happy Homemakers FCE.&nbsp; She was a leader in the Empire 4-H Club and active member of a local Multiple Sclerosis support group.

Survivors include: her loving husband of 65 years, John LeRay Johnson; three children, Jeff (Karolyn) Johnson of McPherson, KS, Jackie (Charlie) Phillips of Enterprise, KS, and Jerri (Brian) Mackey of Bel Aire, KS; eight grandchildren, Nick (Liz) Johnson, Rebekah (Ransom) Hawthorne, Sarah (Tim) Willis, Cassie (Trevor) Kolinski, Callie (T.J.) Bell, Carlie (Adam) Huser, Allison (Dillon) Flood, and Austin (Maggie) Mackey; 11 great-grandchildren; and many extended family and friends.

Judy Janell Hayes |1949-2023|

Erma Louise (Hackerott) Westfall, age 90, of Hutchinson, Kansas, passed away on June 30, 2023. She was born on January 14, 1933, in Alton, Kansas, to the late Everest and Gladys (Gregory) Hackerott.

Erma had a full life. She married her high school sweetheart, Ron Westfall, on September 25, 1951, and together they raised their five children in Greensburg, Kansas. In 2007 they relocated to Hutchinson after the devastating F5 tornado in Greensburg.

Known for her culinary skills, Erma was a wonderful cook and baker. She passed down her passion for cooking to her children, who will continue her legacy in the kitchen. Erma was also talented at quilting, sewing, and crocheting, creating beautiful keepsakes for her family, especially her grandchildren.

Erma and Ron were actively involved in their home church, Our Redeemer Lutheran Church in Hutchinson. They generously provided soup and cookies for numerous church suppers and dedicated their time to volunteering at community outreach kitchens. Erma also found joy in helping others through the Good Samaritan Volunteer Program in Hutchinson.

Erma will be dearly missed by her loving husband, Ron Westfall and their children: Roger Westfall and wife Patricia, Ann Veenstra and husband Dan, Randy Westfall and wife Joyclyn, Rhonda Steele and husband Jim, and Robin West-Conard and husband Steve. She will also be lovingly remembered by her grandchildren: Danette (Veenstra) Peralta, Denise (Veenstra) Case, Mary (Westfall) Tanner, Katelyn (Westfall) Marlow, Paul Westfall, Morgan Steele, Cooper Steele, Michelle (West) Schultz, Jenny (West) Frazier, and Logan West, along with her 18 great-grandchildren and 7 great-great-grandchildren. Erma is survived by her sisters, Thelma Anderson and Doris Lewis, and preceded in death by her siblings: Gilbert Hackerott, Betty Howell, Arlene Bloomer, and Lezetta Hlad.

The family is thankful for the compassionate care and comfort provided by Erma’s hospice caregivers, Mandy Galvin and Jody Abel, RN.

A memorial service to celebrate Erma’s life will be held at 11:00 a.m. on July 15, 2023, at Our Redeemer Lutheran Church in Hutchinson, Kansas.

She married her high school sweetheart, Ron Westfall, on September 25, 1951, and together they raised their five children in Greensburg, Kansas. In 2007 they relocated to Hutchinson after the devastating F5 tornado in Greensburg.Known for her culinary skills, Erma was a wonderful cook and baker. She passed down her passion for cooking to her children, who will continue her legacy in the kitchen. Erma was also talented at quilting, sewing, and crocheting, creating beautiful keepsakes for her family, especially her grandchildren.Erma and Ron were actively involved in their home church, Our Redeemer Lutheran Church in Hutchinson. They generously provided soup and cookies for numerous church suppers and dedicated their time to volunteering at community outreach kitchens. Erma also found joy in helping others through the Good Samaritan Volunteer Program in Hutchinson.Erma will be dearly missed by her loving husband, Ron Westfall and their children: Roger Westfall and wife Patricia, Ann Veenstra and husband Dan, Randy Westfall and wife Joyclyn, Rhonda Steele and husband Jim, and Robin West-Conard and husband Steve. She will also be lovingly remembered by her grandchildren: Danette (Veenstra) Peralta, Denise (Veenstra) Case, Mary (Westfall) Tanner, Katelyn (Westfall) Marlow, Paul Westfall, Morgan Steele, Cooper Steele, Michelle (West) Schultz, Jenny (West) Frazier, and Logan West, along with her 18 great-grandchildren and 7 great-great-grandchildren. Trey Nicholas Allen, 45, died all too soon on July 4, 2023, at his home, surrounded by his family.  He was born October 22, 1977, in Liberal, to Larry and Karen (Timmons) Allen.

Trey graduated from Hugoton High School in 1996, Hutchinson Community College, and earned his bachelor’s degree in political science in 2005 from Kansas State University.  For over 15 years, he was a claims specialist for the Social Security Administration. Trey grew up in Hugoton, and continued to maintain close contact with his Hugoton High Class of 1996. He enjoyed anything outdoors, from fishing and camping to golfing and gardening.  Trey also played baseball.  When he was 12, his team won the Little League World Series, where Trey was the pitcher.   When his three sons were old enough to participate in sports, Trey volunteered to help coach their teams. He was the glue that kept the family close together with cookouts and holidays.  Trey also served as the family peacemaker.  Family came first for Trey, but a very close second was his beloved K-State Wildcats.  He enjoyed attending their football and basketball games, traveling as far as NYC to watch the Wildcats play in the Elite 8!  Trey proudly bled purple.  

On September 5, 1998, he married Shawna Buhrmann.  Even though they were no longer married, they raised 3 amazing sons together and remained friends.  

Trey is survived by:  his parents, Larry and Karen Allen of Emporia; his three sons, Braxton, Jaxon (Katie), and Trevon; four-month old granddaughter, Elaine Allen, all of Hutchinson; brother, Ty Allen (Ashley Knier); nephews, Dax, Tripp, and Grayson Allen, all of Hugoton; aunts, Joyce Hammons and Shelley AbouNabhan (Michael); uncle, Paul Timmons; mother to Braxton, Jaxon, and Trevon, Shawna Allen; former in-laws, Larry and Beulah Buhrmann; beloved Siamese cat, Yogi; numerous cousins; and a host of friends. 

He was preceded in death by:  his grandparents, Mary and George Allen and Doris and Paul Timmons; and uncles, Don Allen (Vicky) and Steve Hammons.

Celebration of Life service will be 11:00 a.m. Monday, July 10, 2023, at First Christian Church, 600 S. Van Buren, Hugoton, with Pastors Heath Kelley and Kevin Giguere officiating.  Burial will follow in the Hugoton Cemetery.  Friends may call from 9:00 am to 5:00 p.m. Saturday and 12:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Sunday, with the family present from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m. Sunday at Elliott Mortuary.

Sherman David Odom, 81, of Hutchinson, died July 1, 2023, at Diversicare of Sedgwick. He was born August 22, 1941, in Van Buren, AR, to Clifford and Nannie Bell (Smith) Odom.

Sherman was an avid hunter; he loved to take his dogs, Baby and Cookie, with him. Sherman especially enjoyed hunting deer in Arkansas. He spent time hiking, and camping. One of his favorite past times, was watching professional wrestling. Sherman liked to spend time with his family and working on his old truck.

In 1982, he married Joyce Mae Scarbrough, in Van Buren. They shared over 28 years of marriage before her death on June 18, 2010.

Sherman is survived by: children, Rhonda (Tony) Turnage, AR, Danny (Tammy) Odom, AR, Samantha (Johnny) Ayers, AR, Lillian ‘Christy’ Odom, WI; siblings, Benny (Betty Jo) Odom, Jerry Odom, and Norma McAllister, all of Van Buren.

He was preceded in death by; his parents; wife; brothers, Jene, Jim, Roy, Troy, and Rickie; and sister, Joyce.

Sherman David Odom |1941-2023|

Dr. Jess Willard Koons, 95, of Liberal passed away on Friday, June 30, 2023 at his home.

Jess was born at home two miles northwest of Sedan, Kansas December 29, 1927. His parents were Arthur and Laura Bell Henson Koons. He graduated from Sedan High School in 1946. He then served in the Army of the Occupation in Korea between 1946 - 47. Following that, he attended and graduated in 1951 with a Bachelor of Arts degree from Ottawa University in Ottawa, Kansas. While attending Ottawa, he met Eva Lou Manker, and they were married on December 22, 1951 by her father, a Baptist minister. They had two children, Dan and Jane.

He taught high school math and science in Greeley, Kansas between 1951 - 53. He then went to the University of Kansas School of Medicine and graduated in 1957 with a Doctor of Medicine degree. After a year internship at Wesley Hospital, Wichita, Kansas, he and the family moved to Liberal in 1958 where he practiced general medicine for five years and was on the staff at Epworth Hospital. The family the moved in 1963 to Denver, Colorado for three years for a residency in ophthalmology. Following the completion of his residency, the family returned to Liberal in 1966, and he practiced as a Board-Certified Eye Specialist for thirty-one years, retiring in 1997.

He served on all the medical staff positions and for seven years on the county hospital board of trustees. He was a long-time member of First Baptist Church. He was a charter member of the Southwest Medical Center Foundation, troop Doctor for the Boy Scouts, and was also a long time active member of the Liberal Rotary Club. Jess regularly attended the men's prayer breakfast for over 40 years.

His interests included old clocks, Hereford cattle, and 8N Ford tractors.

He is survived by his wife Eva Lou, son Dan (Susan) Koons, daughter Jane (Joel) Stevenor of Utica, Illinois, grandson Christopher (Alicia) Koons, granddaughter Rachael Sherwood (Dan Allison), and great-grandson Atticus Allison of Shoreline, Washington. He was preceded in death by his parents, seven brothers, and three sisters.

The family would like to thank St. Catherine Hospice for all their love, support, and care.

A Memorial Service will be held at 11:00am on Monday, July 10th at the First United Methodist Church of Liberal.

Graveside Committal will be 9:30am on Wednesday, July 12th at Restlawn Memorial Gardens Cemetery.

William ‘Bill’ Waine Ogden, 69, died June 20, 2023, at his residence in Hutchinson. He was born July 28, 1953, in Bowling Green, MO, to Mason and Virginia Hamlett (Lindemann) Ogden.

He graduated from Cunningham High School, Cunningham, KS in 1971. Right after graduating, he joined the U.S. Navy until his retirement in 2005. Following his years in the military, William worked as a truck driver.

Bill was baptized and confirmed Catholic, but was not a member of any church. In his spare time, he loved riding his motorcycle. In addition, he enjoyed going fishing in Colorado.

William is survived by his Navy buddies and his long-time friend, Patty Hensley from Kingman.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Virginia Hamlett. &nbsp;

Cremation has taken place. Graveside service will be 10:30 a.m. Friday, July 21, 2023 at Kansas Veterans’ Cemetery at WaKeeney. Military Honors will be conducted by the United States Navy Honor Guard.

William ‘Bill’ Waine Ogden |1953-2023|

Elizabeth Ann 'Beth' Robinson, the beloved daughter of James K. and Joan Fallis, was born on December 7th, 1956, in Kansas City, Missouri. She was the second of three children. Beth attended school in McPherson, KS, and graduated from McPherson High School in 1975. After completing one semester at Hutch Juco, she embarked on her career with Farmers Alliance in McPherson, KS, where she dedicated herself until her retirement at the age of 59.

On April 3, 1976, Beth was joined in matrimony to David Russell. This union was blessed with three children: Lindsey, Austin, and J.W., who tragically passed away in infancy. Sadly, David passed away on May 8th, 2008.

On December 19th, 2009, Beth met Thomas Robinson through a mutual friend, and their connection grew into a beautiful love story. On June 21st, 2012, they exchanged vows and were happily married for 11 years. Beth cherished motorcycle rides, camping adventures, and cherished moments spent with her family and friends. Among her many talents, Beth had an undeniable passion for cooking that brought everyone together.

Beth was preceded in death by her father, Ken Fallis, and sister-in-law, Diane Fallis. She is survived by her loving mother, Joan Fallis; her daughter, Lindsey Grose and her husband, Don; her son, Austin Russell and &nbsp;his wife, Amy; her granddaughters, Payden and Elizabeth. Beth's memory will forever live on in the hearts of her brother, David Fallis and his wife, Sindie, and her brother, Douglas Fallis, and her nephew, Daniel.

Mary graduated from Arthur Hill High School in Saginaw and received her Associates of Applied Science at The Salvation Army - College for Officer Training in Chicago, IL. She married Robert Robbins. He died December 26, 2008, after over 40 years of marriage. She was a Corps Officer Minister for the Salvation Army for 8 years. After retiring from the ministry, Mary worked as a CMA for Mennonite Manor in South Hutchinson and in building maintenance for Countryside Baptist church. Mary also worked for the Hutchinson Salvation Army as a business office manager for over 35 years and taught Sunday School and was a Girl Guard Leader for the Salvation Army. She was known as Grandma Mary to many. She enjoyed spending her time with her family, extended family and friends. 

Mary was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Robert Robbins; brothers, James A. and Floyd Steiner; brother-in-law, James Robbins; and sisters-in-law, Ronnie Steiner and Pat Robbins. 

She is survived by her sons, John Robbins of Ellsworth, KS and Robert (Valerie) Robbins II of Newton; grandchildren, Jessica and Jacob Robbins of Manhattan, KS and Kaylynn Robbins of Newton; sister-in-law, Maria Steiner of Saginaw, MI; and numerous nieces and a nephew.

Per Mary’s wishes, cremation has taken place. A Celebration of Life will be 1:00 p.m. on July 15, 2023 at Salvation Army Church, 700 N. Walnut St. Hutchinson. Memorial Contributions can be made to Hutchinson Salvation Army and sent in care of Hutchinson Funeral Chapel, 300 E. 30th Ave., Hutchinson, KS 67502.

Ellen ‘Marie’ Thode, 92, peacefully passed away in the early morning hours of June 30, 2023. Always an early riser and devout Christian, Marie said she knew when the time came ‘God would lead the way.’&nbsp;

Marie was a remarkable and fiercely independent woman, living and caring for herself and loyal canine companion, Lucky, until only recently in the home she shared with late husband, Estel Thode, and where sons, Randy and Richard Thode, were raised in Hutchinson, KS. Over time, the family homestead of 62 years became homebase for frequent Pinochle games with family friends, weekly Sunday meals, holiday and birthday celebrations with the ever growing family now including great grandchildren.&nbsp;

To her core, Marie was the guide and backbone of the Thode family – a matriarch who believed in the power of faith, positivity, hard work, kindness, a great sense of humor to endure tough times, and above all else, unwavering love for family. Love to Marie meant bringing water and snacks to the grandkids at summer camps and games, attending performances, graduations, weddings, sending cards for birthdays and holidays, and always a loving voicemail or hand-written note just to make sure you had a warm coat in the winter or knew that you were loved. She never missed an opportunity to dote on her 2 boys, beloved daughter-in-law, 4 grandchildren, and 2 great grandchildren.&nbsp;

Following her work in the home, Marie dedicated 25 years to her work at Borton, Inc., while also supporting the family-built business. Marie made several attempts to ‘retire,’ but again found a professional home as a hostess at Conklin Cars for 20 years. Between work and family gatherings, Marie also spent time volunteering at the Salvation Army, the Food Bank, Wesley Towers, and countless others. Where she mustered the endless reserves of energy is a question still eluding her family.&nbsp;

Marie was born on August 25, 1930 and the only child of Charles Norris and Gladys Ellen Moats in Sterling, KS. Moats passed away 3 days later due to childbirth complications. Two years later, Buenos (Ayers) Johnson joined the family and was described by Marie as someone who outshined everyone - a quality Marie embodied with very little effort. Shortly after graduating from Nickerson High School in 1949, Marie married the first love of her life, Estel E. Thode, and shared 50 years of marriage prior to his death on September 22, 1998.&nbsp;

Marie is survived by sons Randy Thode of Hutchinson, KS, and Richard (Sandy) Thode of Raytown, MO; grandchildren Taylor Roddy of Denver, CO, Daniel (Perry) Thode of Washington, D.C., Scott (Liz) Thode of Kansas City, MO, and Jimmy (Javi) Thode of Seattle, Washington; and great grandchildren Makena Marie Roddy and Vivian Jean Thode.&nbsp;

Marie will be laid to rest on Saturday, July 8, 2023 at Memorial Park Cemetery surrounded by family. Friends may call from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Friday, July 7, 2023 at Elliott Mortuary. Edd D. Wallace 73, died June 30, 2023 at Wesley Medical Center in Wichita. &nbsp;He was born July 17, 1949 in Baxter Springs, Kansas to Raymond and Virginia (Taylor) Wallace. &nbsp;On November 4, 1972 he married Marilyn K Reber in Newton and she survives of the home.

Edd served his country in the United States Army and was a member of the Trinity Heights United Methodist Church in Newton. He graduated from Wichita State University and retired as a American Family Insurance agent in Newton. &nbsp;

He is survived by his wife Marilyn of the home; sons Chad (Tara) Wallace and Jeremy (Libby) Wallace; 3 brothers: Ernie, Roy and Dick Wallace. He is also survived by 3 grandchildren. &nbsp;

Edd is preceded in death by his parents and one son Eric.

A public visitation will be 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. Friday July 7, 2023 at Petersen Funeral Home and the family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home. A memorial service for close frieinds and family will be 11:00 a.m. Saturday, July 8, 2023 at Petersen Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Ray Nicodemus officiating. A private family interment will be held at Greenwood Cemetery in Newton.

Sally Ann Kinyon, 60, of Hutchinson, unexpectedly left us for her eternal home on June 29, 2023. She was born to Dean and Judith Hachenberger on April 8, 1963.

Sally grew up attending Waterloo grade school and enjoying summers on the farm in Kingman County. In high school, she was a cheerleader, a track and field athlete, and played tennis. Sally also loved to dance, sang in the school choir, and played in the school band. She had a beautiful smile.

Sally went on to continue her education at Hutchinson Community College, but it was at Tappers – a barn that had been built into a dance floor – where she met her future husband, Jerry Kinyon. Jerry had a crush on Sally since high school. After reconnecting, they were never apart and soon married June 24, 1983.

Sally’s faith and commitment to God shined bright throughout her life. Her prayers were answered when their son, Jonathan, was born in 1999. Sally, aka “Snow White” started every day, sometimes as early as 3:00 in the morning, studying the Bible and cleaning the house. She enjoyed solving word puzzles, creating artwork, and spending precious time with Jerry aka, “Scoody-Dad” and Jonathan, aka “Chicky Bear”.

Sally is survived by: her husband of 40 years, Jerry Kinyon; son, Jonathan; father, Dean Hachenberger and wife Dee of Hutchinson; mother, Judith Pepper of North Newton; 5 siblings, Susan Hachenberger of Hutchinson; Sandra Warner and husband Brad of Overland Park; Jason Orme of Kingman; Jennifer Orme of Olathe; Courtney Harris and husband Erik of Wichita.

She was preceded in death by her step-father, Larry Orme.

Sally leaves a legacy of faith, family, love and kindness. She was her family’s North Star and will live on in those of us who were blessed to call her ours. Sally taught us all to never give up and to never quit.

Memorial service will be 10 a.m. Saturday, July 8, 2023, at Elliott Chapel, with Lucas Bishop presiding. Friends may sign her memorial book from 9 a.m. – 5p.m. Monday thru Friday at Elliott Mortuary.
