
Bill Gene Alumbaugh, 74, of Hutchinson, died September 27, 2023, at Hospice House. He was born March 8, 1949, in Hutchinson, to Elmer L. and Reva J. (Fleming) Alumbaugh.
Bill graduated from Gardner High School in 1967 and attended Hutchinson Community College. He served in the United States Army from 1969 to 1975. Bill worked as a baker at Betts Bakery for over 30 years and then as a custodian at Reno Valley Middle School for 10 years before retiring. He was a member of Temple Baptist Church, American Legion Lyle Rishel Post #68, and The Forty and Eight. Bill enjoyed fishing and spending time with family, especially Ezra Lee.
On April 9, 1971, he married Shirley Ann Bernatzki, in Hutchinson. They shared 52 years of marriage. She survives.
Also surviving are: his daughter, Valerie Alumbaugh of Hutchinson; grandchildren, Jason Alumbaugh, Tyler Alumbaugh, Shawn Alumbaugh (Cheyenne), Sarah Schowalter; great-grandsons, Ezra Lee Alumbaugh and Hunter Gene Alumbaugh.
Bill was preceded in death by: his parents; brother, Don; and sisters, Barbara Meadows and Melinda Huff.
Funeral service will be 1:30 p.m. Saturday, October 7, 2023, at Elliott Chapel. Burial will follow in Fairlawn Burial Park, with military honors conducted by Fort Riley Honor Guard.

Friends may call from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m., with the family present to receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Friday at Elliott Mortuary.
