
Roger Shipley, 83, of Hutchinson, went to be with the Lord August 24, 2020, at his home.
Whether known as Dad, Papa, or just Roger, he was a friend to all and always a listening ear.
He was born January 4, 1937, in Amherst, TX, to Charley and Mary Ann (Tisdale) Shipley. Roger graduated in 1955 from Hereford High School in Hereford, TX and attended Texas Tech University, Lubbock, TX. On September 19, 1974, he married Sawana (Keas) Pierce, in Hereford, TX where he was a bookkeeper for Suit's Auto Supply. He later was a bookkeeper for Caviness Packing Co. In 1978 he and his family moved to Hutchinson, KS where he was Sanitation Supervisor at Betts Bakery (Rainbow Bakery) until he retired in 1993. Later Roger worked for Buhler USD 313 in Maintenance. Roger was a member of First Church of the Nazarene, Hutchinson.
Roger is survived by: his wife of almost 46 years, Sawana; son, Jason Shipley (Cecelia); grandsons, Tristan and Harrison Shipley; sister-in-law, Verline Shipley; brothers-in law, Jimmie Keas (Janet) and Timothy Keas (Wynne); and sister-in-law, Minyon Rusher.
He was preceded in death by: his parents; sons, David Pierce, 1987, and Kent Shipley, 2017; and brother, Donald Shipley.
Cremation has taken place. Memorial service will be 11:30 a.m. Saturday, September 19, 2020, at First Church of the Nazarene, 4290 N. Monroe, Hutchinson, with Pastor Kent Pedersen and Mr. Jimmie Keas officiating. Masks and social distancing will be strongly encouraged. Friends may call from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Monday through Saturday at Elliott Mortuary.
