

David Joe Neighbors, 89, Hutchinson, died August 16, 2020, at McPherson Health & Rehab. He was born September 2, 1930, in Hutchinson, to William ‘Bill’ and Ethyl M. (Bailey) Neighbors.
David attended St. John’s Military School in Salina. He enlisted in the United States Navy in 1947 and served until he was honorably discharged in 1951 during the Korean War. David worked for Peoples Natural Gas for 37 years, retiring as Regional Manager. He enjoyed bird-hunting, old tractors, and gun shows.
In 1953 David married Esther R. DeWitt in Clovis, NM. They shared 54 years of marriage before her death on January 31, 2008.
He is survived by: children, Jeffrey Neighbors, Hutchinson, Suzanne Coker (Daniel), Wichita; grandchildren, Jeff Neighbors Jr. (Brandy), Surrey, ND, Kelton Neighbors, Tulsa, OK, Jason Scates (Sarah), Andover, Abby Jo Morgan (Brandon), Maize, Gabriel Coker, Wichita; great-grandchildren, Morgan, Mekenzie, Brock, Emma, Emily, Isaac, Madison, Aurora; sister, Margie Miller, Hutchinson; and other extended family members.
David was preceded in death by: his parents; son, David Neighbors Jr.; brother Jack Neighbors; and sister, Jackie Dutton.
Graveside service will be 10:30 a.m. Friday, August 21, 2020, at Memorial Park Cemetery, 5905 W 4th Ave., Hutchinson, with Pastor Matt Stafford officiating. Friends may call from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday at Elliott Mortuary.
