Ralph “Ernie” Breeding, 76, passed away February 1, 2022, in Hutchinson. He was born in Klamath Falls, OR, to Ralph and Edith Breeding.

Ernie married Jo Tope on March 9, 1992, in Perryton, TX.

After graduating from high school in Hugoton, KS, Ernie moved to Washington, D.C., where he lived with his grandparents, Congressman J. Floyd and Sevilla Breeding.&nbsp; While there, he attended Pennsylvania Military College and Georgetown University.

Ernie moved back to Kansas to attend Fort Hays State University and St. Mary of the Plains, where he graduated.&nbsp; Following graduation, he owned a boot store in Gunnison, CO.&nbsp; Ernie also received his private pilot’s license, and started guiding hunting and fishing trips.&nbsp; He later moved to Dodge City, to take care of his grandmother, Sevilla.

In Oklahoma, Ernie obtained his commercial pilot’s license, and began doing aerial photography.&nbsp; In the Dodge City area, he was a real estate agent.

Among all Ernie’s accomplishments, he was also a member of the Santa Fe Trail Association, Quails Unlimited, Millbrook Wranglers (Single Action Shooters Association in Hill City), and Cowboy Action Shooters. His many hobbies included hunting and fly fishing.

Ernie is survived by:&nbsp; his wife, Jo; his mother, Edith; sister Susan; the Derstein family, and many nieces, nephews, and close friends.

He was preceded in death by:&nbsp; his grandparents, Congressman J. Floyd and Sevilla Breeding; father, Ralph Breeding; brother, Wayne Breeding; and sister, Jana (Breeding) Ricker.

Melody Fern Harrington, 77, passed away on Wednesday, January 26, 2022, in Newton.&nbsp;&nbsp;She was born in Minneapolis, Minnesota to Orel Madeline and Frederick Walsh Piepho.&nbsp;&nbsp;She was a graduate of Brownsville High School.&nbsp;After graduation she obtained and worked numerous Food Management positions, was a substitute Teacher, CMA with New Horizons in Valley Center, and finally retired from Raytheon Aircraft in Wichita.

Melody loved spending time with her family, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. She enjoyed playing cards and other various games. She also loved spending time outside doing yardwork and her Country Geese.

She was preceded in death by her parents Orel Madeline and Frederick Walsh Piepho, husband James Edward Harrington, brothers Lawrence James, Frances Maynard and Dennis, and her sister Catherine Poor.

Carol was born on October 12, 1940, to Peter and Esther (Johnson) Ruppert in North Platte County, Nebraska at her grandparents’ home.&nbsp; Carol graduated in 1958 from Sylvia High School in Sylvia, Kansas and attended Northeast Community College in Norfolk, Nebraska where she received her associate’s degree in nursing.&nbsp; Carol was an LPN for Leisure Homestead in Stafford, Kansas for 20 years.&nbsp; She loved cooking, dancing and tending to her flowers.&nbsp; Carol loved life and her family.&nbsp; She was a member of Sylvia United Methodist Church. She was preceded in death by her parents. Rosalie Fern Burk, 87, went to her heavenly home on January 31, 2022, at McPherson Health and Rehab, McPherson.&nbsp; She was born in Thomas, OK, to Earl and Dona (Potter) Bratcher.&nbsp; As a young girl, Rosalie helped her family pick cotton and developed a good work ethic that would help her during her later working years.

At the age of 18, Rosalie left Oklahoma and moved to Kansas, where her sister and brother-in-law were living and obtained a position at Boeing Aircraft.&nbsp; She worked as a secretary, and her favorite part of the job was transporting blueprints on a small vehicle between departments.&nbsp; She attended a Nazarene church, where she met her future husband, Dwight Royse of South Hutchinson, who was the ‘love of her life’.&nbsp; For 17 years, she worked as a homemaker and helped with the family business, Star Route Mail.&nbsp; After Dwight’s passing in 1973, Rosalie began working at the Reno County Department of Aging as a dispatcher for the Golden Express Bus.&nbsp; She advanced to Assistant Director in later years.&nbsp; Rosalie married Gary Hoag of Hutchinson, in 1975, and continued working at the Reno County Courthouse.&nbsp; After Gary’s passing in 1998, she married Bob Burk of Hutchinson.&nbsp; Rosalie retired from the Courthouse in 1999.

Her interests and passions included quilting, gardening, and spending time with family and friends.&nbsp; Rosalie made dozens of hand-pieced quilts, many of which were hand quilted.&nbsp; During her life, she was well-known for a variety of things, such as a sense of humor, sharp wit, benevolence to those less fortunate, positive nature,&nbsp; peacemaker, and always a source of positivity.&nbsp; Her laugh was a comfort to the ear.&nbsp; Rosalie’s family stated that she never drank, smoked, or swore.&nbsp;

Rosalie had a strong and unwavering faith and devotion to God.&nbsp; She was a beloved mother, grandmother, and Christian.&nbsp; Rosalie’s faith was an essential part of her life.&nbsp; She taught children about the Lord in Sunday School classes in her early life.&nbsp; Rosalie Royse-Burk, mother, wife, sister, grandma, great-grandma, great-great-grandma, and friend will be missed by all of us who knew her.

She is survived by:&nbsp; her children, Randy Royse of Hutchinson, Steve Royse of Wichita, and Terri (Gary) Heidebrecht; brother, Dennis Bratcher of Bethany, OK; 11 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; and a great-great-granddaughter.

Victor graduated from Hutchinson High School in 1969.&nbsp; He retired from Westar Energy after over 42 years of service.&nbsp; Victor enjoyed tinkering (especially with lawn mowers), watching the Royals and Chiefs, listening to music, and working outside.&nbsp; Above all, he enjoyed time spent with his family. Victor was a member of Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church, South Hutchinson.

On December 5, 1970, he married Jackie Marshall at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church, South Hutchinson. They shared 51 years of marriage.

Norma Jean Olson, 91, lifelong resident of Herington, passed away peacefully at Herington Municipal Hospital on January 30, 2022. She was born December 3, 1930, to Henry Fred Brunner and Mollie Schneider, in Herington.

Norma attended school in Herington, where she was a graduate of the Herington High School class of 1948. On January 30, 1949, she married the love of her life Jack Olson, Sr. They spent 59 wonderful years together, before Jack passed away in 2008. To this union were born 2 sons, Gregory and Jack, Jr.&nbsp;&nbsp;Norma worked many years at Stiles Grocery store as a clerk.

Norma was confirmed in her faith in the Lord, in 1944 at Our Redeemer Evangelical Lutheran Church.&nbsp;&nbsp;She was a devoted Christian who never miss an opportunity to be at church. Norma and Jack, Sr got to celebrate their 73 wedding anniversary together in heaven as she was called home by her Lord and Savior on their anniversary. Norma loved making ceramics through the years and was very good at it. Norma and Jack loved to travel, they traveled through out the country together while they could. Grandchildren were a huge part of Norma’s life, her and Jack would take the grandkids to Branson for vacation.

Norma Jean Olson, 91, lifelong resident of Herington, passed away peacefully at Herington Municipal Hospital on January 30, 2022. She was born December 3, 1930, to Henry Fred Brunner and Mollie Schneider, in Herington.Norma attended school in Herington, where she was a graduate of the Herington High School class of 1948. On January 30, 1949, she married the love of her life Jack Olson, Sr. They spent 59 wonderful years together, before Jack passed away in 2008. To this union were born 2 sons, Gregory and Jack, Jr.&nbsp;&nbsp;Norma worked many years at Stiles Grocery store as a clerk.Norma was confirmed in her faith in the Lord, in 1944 at Our Redeemer Evangelical Lutheran Church.&nbsp;&nbsp;She was a devoted Christian who never miss an opportunity to be at church. Norma and Jack, Sr got to celebrate their 73 wedding anniversary together in heaven as she was called home by her Lord and Savior on their anniversary. Norma loved making ceramics through the years and was very good at it. Norma and Jack loved to travel, they traveled through out the country together while they could. James’ life began on May 1, 1928, in Florence. He was the son of James Arthur and Edith L. (Drush) Snelling. He was a 1946 graduate of Florence High School. James enlisted in the United States Air Force on May 20, 1946, and served until May 19, 1949, when he left the service as a staff sergeant.

James was united in marriage to the former Luella Beneke on June 6, 1954, in Lincolnville. &nbsp;He worked at the Florence Bulletin before being employed by Trans World Airlines as a customer service and operations agent at Will Rogers World Airport in Oklahoma City. James' job with TWA allowed the family to travel to many different cities in the U.S. and abroad. The family later moved to Wichita where he worked at Mid-Continent Airport until he retired from TWA in 1985. &nbsp;He then had several part time jobs until Luella retired.&nbsp;

James enjoyed attending the Florence High School Alumni banquets every year.&nbsp; He was a long-time member of Ascension Lutheran Church in Wichita and served on the church's Commission of Properties, mowing and caring for the lawn well into his 80’s. He enjoyed the outdoors, gardening (he loved his tomato plants!) and spending time with his family.

James is survived by his children Doranne (Roger) Beavers of Norman, OK, James (Linda) Snelling of Bells, TX, Mark Snelling of Wichita, Brad Snelling of Wichita, and Kay (Ron) Adams of Wichita; grandchildren Zac (Mira) Beavers, Tyler (Lexie) Beavers, and Cody (Christina) Beavers, Kyle (Natalie) Koontz, Cody (Lindsey) Koontz and Rachel Parker; and 15 great grandchildren. She was a homemaker.&nbsp; Katie accepted Christ in her youth and was baptized in the Amish Church.&nbsp; She remained faithful during her life.&nbsp; Katie enjoyed gardening and birds.&nbsp; She had a friendly smile and welcomed everyone.

Betty Jo Smith, 85, passed away February 1, 2022 at Via Christi St. Teresa Hospital in Wichita, KS. She was born on November 22, 1936 at Anthony, to Harold &amp; Eloise “Billie” (Bowman) Roark. After the death of her Mother when she was 6 years old, she was raised by her Aunt and Uncle, Sarah &amp; Russell Lake.

Betty lived the majority of her life in Lake City and attended Sun City High School. She was a retired homemaker, nurse’s aide and USD 254 school bus driver. She was a member of the United Methodist Church in Medicine Lodge, and the United Methodist Women at Lake City.

Betty was an accomplished seamstress, teaching countless grandchildren and 4-H kids to sew. She also enjoyed crafting, cooking, working in her flower beds and gardening. She was a big fan of any and all sports and an animal lover. Her biggest joy in her life was her family, especially her grand and great-grandchildren.

On March 4, 1955 she married James E. ‘Jim’ Smith at Coldwater. He preceded her in death on March 26, 2012. She is survived by sons: Steve (Bonnie) Turon Ks; Perry (Sharon) Wamego; a daughter Cheryl Wiske, Medicine Lodge; Grandchildren: Jolinda (Karol) Mierny, Jaceilia (Kyle) Graves, Jennifer (Bill) Neywick, Emma (Kevin) Werlein, Hiel (Jamie) Smith; Great-grandchildren are Keaton, Kylee, Jackson, Karson, Emilia, Ava, Lane, Wyatt, Kase, Brooklyn, &amp; Jaylee.

Joyce M. Clark, 85, died Jan. 31, 2022 at the Cheney Golden Age Home, Cheney.

She was born Feb. 17, 1936, at Mitchell, the daughter of Joseph “J.B.” and Jessie Bain Rife.&nbsp; A longtime Kingman resident, she was operations manager at Great Plains Dental in Kingman.

Joyce was a member of the United Methodist Church and the Rotary Club, both of Kingman.

On Nov. 5, 1977, she married Kenneth Clark; he died March 6, 2020.&nbsp; Survivors include two sons and their wives Bobby and Marnie Mellott and Tommy Mellott and Angela Courage; daughter Carolyn McClaflin and her husband Dallas; sister Josephine Yager; 10 grandchildren; and numerous grand and great-grandchildren.&nbsp; She was also preceded in death by a son Jimmy Mellott; and sisters Joann Feldman and Jean O’Dell.

Thomas Foulkrod born August 8, 1936, the first-born child of Edward Philip Foulkrod and Prudence Lucille Warner Foulkrod in Troy, PA. 

He attended various schools, graduated from Troy High School in 1954. He attended Moody Bible Institute in Chicago, IL where he met the love of his life, L Beverly Gregg. They married June 17, 1956 in Columbia City, IN and celebrated 65 years of marriage this last June.

To this union were born James Thomas, William Edwin and Esther Lynn. Thomas throughout his life has been a Jack of all trades in carpentry and construction. He has been a dairy farmer, realtor, landlord and teacher. He started his teaching career in the New Carsile-Bethel school district as an Industrial Arts instructor and finished his 30 year career at Springfield South School district as a business, math, computer and drafting teacher. Tom Foulkrod had graduated from Cedarville College in 1970, completed course work at Ohio State University and completed his Masters at Wilberforce University.

Tom and Bev moved from Cedarville in 1999 to Medicine Lodge, to be closer to family. Tom loved reading - his habit was to read through the Bible yearly in different translations. Besides reading, he loved to start projects, putter, yard sale and collect. They were in the process of moving to Buda TX to start a new adventure closer to his oldest son when he suddenly passed.

Thomas Foulkrod was a member of Grace Baptist Church in Cedarville, Ohio before transferring his affiliation to Community Bible Fellowship in Medicine Lodge. He served as a Communion Meditation speaker, giving his last mediation on January 23, 2022. He served faithfully on the board of the Freedom Gates Boys Ranch for many years.

He is survived by his Beloved, L. Beverly Foulkrod of the home. Siblings Joyce (LaRue) Garrison, Elmira, NY, Robert (Shelia) Foulkrod Troy, PA, Sister-in-laws Laramie Niccum, Middlebury, IN and Peg (Larry) Montgomery. Children Jim (Dorcas) Foulkrod, Buda, TX, William Foulkrod Medicine Lodge, Esther (Todd) Ash of Preston. Ted Forrest Anderson, age 53, Andale, passed away of an apparent heart attack at his home on Thursday, January 27, 2022. He had just returned home after coaching the Andale High School girls’ basketball team to a win in the opening round of the Haven High School Wildcat Classic Tournament and was preparing his scouting report on the next day’s game. 

Ted was born Nov. 15, 1968, in Kansas City, the older of two sons born to Chris and Marilyn Anderson. He spent his early years in Basehor, Kansas, where he was involved in 4-H, football, basketball, and golf. He graduated from Basehor High School in 1987.&nbsp;

After high school, Ted attended Pittsburg State University where he played on the golf team. During his time at Pitt State, he also began his 30-year coaching journey at Southeast High School in Cherokee, where he coached freshman boys’ basketball for two years. He was awarded his bachelor’s degree in teaching at Pitt State in 1992.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Two weeks later, on June 6, 1992, Ted married his high school sweetheart, Tracy Trowbridge, and together they established their home in Valley Center, where their son Jordan and daughter Jacy were born. Ted was a middle school language arts teacher, assistant varsity football coach, and head varsity girls’ basketball coach in Valley Center. During this time he also completed his master’s degree from Friends University.&nbsp;

In 2009 the family moved to Andale. That same year daughter Jillian joined the family. Once again Ted taught language arts in the middle school focusing on reading skills. He is survived by his wife Tracy and their three children: Jordan Anderson of Lenexa, Kansas, and Jacy and Jillian Anderson of Andale; his parents Chris and Marilyn (Bondurant) Anderson of Basehor; his brother Bret (Jessica) Anderson of Platte City, Missouri; and in-laws, Jim and Sandy Trowbridge of Tonganoxie; as well as extended family members, friends, former students, and athletes from the teams that he coached.&nbsp;

Ted was an avid reader of all types of literature and was a history buff. He was known as the king of worthless sports trivia facts. He was a big Star Wars fan. He loved to have conversations with whoever came along. On travels, he made it a point to wear a hat or shirt that would&nbsp;serve as a conversation starter. His greatest loves were his wife, his children, golf, and basketball.&nbsp;

Ted Forrest Anderson, age 53, Andale, passed away of an apparent heart attack at his home on Thursday, January 27, 2022. He had just returned home after coaching the Andale High School girls’ basketball team to a win in the opening round of the Haven High School Wildcat Classic Tournament and was preparing his scouting report on the next day’s game. Ted was born Nov. 15, 1968, in Kansas City, the older of two sons born to Chris and Marilyn Anderson. He spent his early years in Basehor, Kansas, where he was involved in 4-H, football, basketball, and golf. He graduated from Basehor High School in 1987.&nbsp;After high school, Ted attended Pittsburg State University where he played on the golf team. During his time at Pitt State, he also began his 30-year coaching journey at Southeast High School in Cherokee, where he coached freshman boys’ basketball for two years. He was awarded his bachelor’s degree in teaching at Pitt State in 1992.&nbsp;&nbsp;Two weeks later, on June 6, 1992, Ted married his high school sweetheart, Tracy Trowbridge, and together they established their home in Valley Center, where their son Jordan and daughter Jacy were born. Ted was a middle school language arts teacher, assistant varsity football coach, and head varsity girls’ basketball coach in Valley Center. During this time he also completed his master’s degree from Friends University.&nbsp;In 2009 the family moved to Andale. That same year daughter Jillian joined the family. Once again Ted taught language arts in the middle school focusing on reading skills. Frances C. Anderson, 83, died June 26, 2011 at Kingman. She was born March 23, 1928, in Oklahoma the daughter of Elmer and Beulah Duke Frisby. Lynne was born on September 17, 1948, to Eugene and Mildred (VanDeHey) Sobieski in Manitowoc, Wisconsin. She graduated in 1966 from Lincoln High School, Manitowoc, WI and later graduated from Front Range School of Nursing as a Registered Nurse and graduated in 1998.&nbsp; Lynne worked for the Hospice of St. John in Lakewood, Colorado for 9 years.&nbsp; Lynne was profound in her Christian faith.&nbsp; She loved nature and animals.&nbsp; Before becoming a nurse, she talked about becoming a forest ranger but felt it was her calling to care for the sick and dying.&nbsp;&nbsp; &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; She was preceded in death by her parents; and a sister, Carol McGaffey. Jason David Wintamute, 44, of Hutchinson, died January 28, 2022, at his home. He was born March 10, 1977, in Hutchinson, to Larry and Shirley (Grossardt) Wintamute.

Jason attended Winans Elementary School, Sherman Middle School, and graduated from Hutchinson High School in 1995. After high school he moved to Chicago, where he was a cook for Red Lobster. Jason then moved to Tulsa, Oklahoma, before returning to Hutchinson. Most recently, he was a cook for Applebee’s in Hutchinson. Jason enjoyed spending time with his family, cooking out, and making his own BBQ sauce. He loved baseball and was a diehard Chicago Cubs fan as well as Nebraska.

On March 17, 2018, Jason married Cindy Kay Myrtle, in Hutchinson.

He is survived by: wife, Cindy Wintamute, Hutchinson; sons, TreShawn Taylor, Wichita, Vincent and Isaac Wintamute, Wichita; stepsons, Logan Howell, Hutchinson, Klayton Myrtle, Mulvane, Chase Myrtle, Hutchinson; stepdaughter, Brooke Palmatier, Hutchinson; grandson, Asher; parents, Larry and Shirley Wintamute, Hutchinson; brother, Derek Wintamute, Hutchinson; and numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, and nephews.

Luella “Lou” Faye Beemer, 75, of Sterling, died January 30, 2022, at Wesley Medical Center, Wichita. She was born January 14, 1947, in Scott City, to Lyle R. “Skeeter” and Vera M. (Schmidt-Hasz) Marker.

Lou graduated from Hutchinson High School in 1965. She was twice retired: working at Southwestern Bell/ATT for 28 years, starting on the corkboard and retiring as a customer service representative, and then in Central Supply at Hutchinson Hospital. Lou was currently working as a clerk in the Parks Department for the city of Hutchinson.

She enjoyed taking classes at the Delos V. Smith Senior Center and was an avid shopper. Lou loved horseback riding and being “Grandma” to many children besides her own. She was a member of Riverside Baptist Church and was active in many ministries of the church.

On September 3, 1978, Lou married Al Beemer in Cotopaxi, CO. He survives.

Also surviving are: her daughters, Kelly Freeman (Wade Flemming) of Andover, Kimberly Shelburn (John) of Haysville, Misty McCulley (Aaron) of Clearwater; grandchildren, Nicholas Knapp (Bethany), Rickie Kelley, Dakota Day, Kyndel Mooningham (Austin), Joshua Shelburn, Preston Shelburn, Noah Shelburn, Isabella Shelburn, Levi Shelburn; 7 great-grandchildren; siblings, Claudia Easter of Port Richey, FL, Connie Hawver of Hutchinson, Larry Buckbee (Almira) of Wichita; and many extended family members.

He had served as a civilian 1W program in Kansas City at KU Medical Center,
took several courses at Calvary Bible College, and did a lot of Bible Study on
his own.&nbsp; He was a member of Zoar
Mennonite Brethren Church, Inman.

He married Bonnie Unruh on March 16, 1968.&nbsp; They bought a farmstead west of Inman in 1975
and lived there until present day.&nbsp;
Bonnie survives of the home.

Other survivors include a son, Gordon (Shannon) Enns, Inman;
2 grandsons, Jared and Nathan (and fiancée Kaylee Wedel) all of Inman; a sister

Fred Edwin Roelfs, 90, of McPherson, Kansas, passed away Friday, January 28, 2022, at Riverview Estates, Marquette. He was born February 14, 1931, in St. Francis, the son of Theodore and Lula Roelfs. Fred was a graduate of St. Francis High School, St. Francis, 1949. He was a surveyor for the construction of Bonny Dam in 1951. Fred enlisted in the Air Force in November 1951, and was a mechanic at Luke Air Force Base, Glendale, Arizona. He was honorably discharged in 1955. In 1951, Fred married Phyllis Powell. They had two sons, Ronald and Tom. After Fred’s discharge from the service, they made their home in McPherson, Kansas. He worked for Southwestern Bell as a lineman, continuing through AT&amp;T’s buyout of the company. After retirement, he was an independent telephone installation and repair technician. Fred married Virginia Pressnall in 1978. She preceded him in death. In 1991, Fred married Sharon Fuller Lucas. Fred was a member of First Christian Church, McPherson, where he sang in the choir and volunteered maintenance services for several years. He also donated his time delivering Friendship Meals. Monthly, Fred met with the Pioneers, a group of retired telephone employees, for food and conversation. He was a loving husband, father, and grandfather. He enjoyed hunting and fishing, especially with his sons and grandchildren. Fred was an avid golfer and talented woodworker. Besides his faith, nothing mattered more to Fred than spending time with family. Preceding Fred in death were his parents, his brothers, Harry, Bernard, Rowland, Raymond, and Rex, and a sister, Doris, his daughter-in-law, Donna, and granddaughter, Brianne Roelfs. He is survived by his loving wife, Sharon; children Ronald (Lisa) Roelfs of Commerce, Michigan, and Tom (Kathy) Roelfs of Wellington, Colorado; grandchildren Jeremy Roelfs, Trevor (Valene) Roelfs, Jonathan (Autumn) Roelfs, and Norman Roelfs; great grandchildren, Duncan, Amelia, and Harper; stepchildren Mike (Susie) Pressnall of Winfield, Doug (Cindy) Pressnall, and Cheryl (Richard) Vincent, all of McPherson, Tony (Orella) Lucas of Inman, Vicki (Barry) Porter of Little River, and Shandi (Scott) Lang of Fowler, and several step grandchildren and step great-grandchildren. Robert Lester "Bob" Hopp, 65, of Abilene, passed away at 12:23 am, Sunday, January 30th, 2022 while surrounded by his family, at Salina Regional Health Center, Salina. Bob was born in Lindsborg, on August 27, 1956, a son of Shirley Esther (Pintler) and Lester Leroy Hopp. Bob attended the Lindsborg schools and graduated from Lindsborg High School, Lindsborg, in 1974. He participated in FFA in high school and received numerous awards. He later attended various trade schools all over the united states for his work. Bob was a member of the First Baptist Church, Lindsborg and later became a member of Harmony Christian Church, McPherson. Robert Lester Hopp was united in marriage to Beth Marie Perkins on May 2, 1987 at the First Baptist Church, Lindsborg. The young couple established their first home together in Lindsborg. This union was blessed with the birth of two sons, Adam and Owen. The family moved to McPherson in 1994. The family moved to Abilene in 2003. Through the years Bob worked as a farmer on the family farm and for other neighbors. He worked at Columbia Industry as a extruder operator and die repair. He then worked for Dauer Implement as a assistant service manager and Tech, worked for Farmers Union Elevator delivering fuel, worked for Case Power and Equipment as assistant service manager and tech, Engquist Tractor Service as block machinist. Bob has been working for 19 years for Abilene Machine Inc., Solomon, and was currently the Engine Shop Supervisor. Bob was skilled in complete block repair, and have developed tools to make some machining jobs possible. In 2001, in a AERA Idea Contest, he came up with an idea that won first place. Bob enjoyed farming, agriculture, anything mechanical and valued all his fellow workers. His family was the most important and he cherished all the times they were able to get together especially the family reunions. He also loved his pets dearly. He is survived by his loving and devoted wife of over 34 years, Beth Hopp, of Abilene, Kansas; his sons, Adam Hopp, of Abilene and Owen Hopp and his fiancée Melissa, of Abilene; his brother Lyle Hopp and his wife Nadine, of Marshall, Texas; and his favorite grandson, Mason. Bob was preceded in death by his parents; and a sister, Deborah Hopp. A private family graveside service will be held at the McPherson Cemetery in McPherson. A Celebration of life will be held at a later date and once it is planned will be posted here.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Ruth A. Lam, 92, died Jan. 30, 2022 at Wheatlands Healthcare Center, Kingman.

She was born May 13, 1929, at Cheney, the daughter of Henry and Laura Schierenbeck Kohler.&nbsp; A longtime resident of the Kingman community, she was employed at the Kingman County Courthouse, Calverts, Kingman Flower Shop, Kingman Memorial Hospital; and was recognized by the State of Kansas with her work as Conservator for many individuals.

Ruth was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, the VFW Auxiliary, Mizpah Rebeka’s Lodge, all of Kingman.

On Jan. 9, 1949, she married Ernest W. “Ernie” Lam at Wichita; he died Aug. 30,2006.&nbsp; Survivors include daughters Judy (Larry) Doss, Joyce (Ira III) Hart, Janice Lam, and Jeana Lam-Pickett; grandchildren Heather, Haylie, Jake, Sophia and Zoey; and great-grandchildren Trevin and Max Kent, Jaxon Hart, Cady and Chloe Zoeller; and her cat Lizzie.&nbsp; She was also preceded in death by her brother Erwin; and sisters Helen Reiff and Roberta Tonn.

Funeral services will be 1:00 p.m., Monday, Feb. 7, 2022 at the First Presbyterian Church.&nbsp; The family will receive friends from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m., Sunday, Feb. 6, 2022 at the Livingston Funeral Home.&nbsp; Burial will be in the Walnut Hill Cemetery.

Carlene A. Showalter, 71, passed away on Friday, January 28, 2022, at her home in Hutchinson. Carlene was born on July 1, 1950, to Lucas J. Jegen and Joyce N. (Braden) Hagen in Junction City.&nbsp;Carlene worked in customer service for Cox Communications and retired in 2010 after 23 years of service.&nbsp; Carlene’s greatest love was her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.&nbsp; She loved to garden, make flower arrangements and she enjoyed refurbishing old birdhouses.&nbsp; &nbsp; She was preceded in death by her parents; two sisters, Connie L. Hagen and Cindy L Hagen; one brother, Chris L. Hagen; and two grandsons, Blake Showalter and Joseph McCray. Carlene is survived by her two children, Matthew R. Showalter and Michelle (Damon) McCray; two brothers, Martin (Donna) Jegen and Ronald (Linda) Jegen; six grandchildren, Bryce Showalter, Brandon (Brittany) Showalter, Brandy (Corey) Showalter, Blayze Showalter, Cynthia (Christopher) Cornett and Hennesse Brown; and three great grandchildren, Nemia Zaid, Coltyn Ukele and Willow Showalter. James D. Dix, 79, died January 30, 2022, at Pleasant View Home, Inman.&nbsp; He was born March 21, 1942, in Wichita, to Phillip S. and Nina M. (Revo) Dix.&nbsp;

James was raised on a farm in the Burdick area, and&nbsp;graduated&nbsp;from Centre High School, Lost Springs, in 1961.&nbsp; He lived in Herington, before moving to Hutchinson in 2003.&nbsp; James completed seven years in the Army Reserves, retiring as a First Sergeant. &nbsp;He retired after 35 years of services from Union Pacific Railroad, as a&nbsp;engineer.&nbsp; James was a member of the Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineer.

On December 14, 1964, he married Lynda Lou Hill, in Abilene.&nbsp; She died September 27, 2019, after sharing 55 years of marriage.

James is survived by daughter, Deanna “Dea” Dix-Brown (Gary) of Pratt.

He was preceded in death by:&nbsp; his parents; brothers, Richard, Warren, Max, and Don; and sisters, Dorothy Hagnauer and Phyllis Cirjak.

Cremation has taken place.&nbsp; Memorial service will be 11:00 a.m. Monday, February 7, 2022, at Sunset Hill Cemetery, Herington, with Pastor Jeanine I. Rishel officiating.&nbsp; Friends may sign his book from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. at Elliott Mortuary.

H.R. Siefker, 91, of Moundridge, passed away Monday, January 31, 2022 at Newton Medical Center, Newton.&nbsp; He was born July 21, 1930, in Deep River, Iowa, the son of A.W. and Hilda (Tanke) Siefker.

H.R. attended Hillside Dayton School in Deep River, IA.&nbsp; He received an honorary High School Diploma from Moundridge High School, July 21, 2021, on his 90th&nbsp;birthday.

From 1951 to 1955, H.R. served his country in the United States Air Force with the 307th&nbsp;Field Maintenance Squadron.&nbsp; He obtained the rank of Airman First Class and received the National Defense Service Medal.

H.R. was a life-long farmer and rancher.&nbsp; During his semi-retirement, he worked at Moridge Manufacturing in the maintenance department.

He was a member of the First Baptist Church at McPherson.

H.R. was united in marriage to Sue Ellen Ensminger on April 22, 1956 at Moran.&nbsp; She passed away May 15, 1997.&nbsp; &nbsp;&nbsp;He married Geneva Mae Goering Schrag on June 7, 1998 at Moundridge. She survives of the home.

Also surviving are his daughters; Kay Huxman (Rod) of Moundridge, Karyn Tripp (Jack) of Onalaska, WI, and Kolene Sugars (Jim) of Moundridge; step-daughter, Cindy Stucky (Larry) and step-sons, Mike Schrag (Jackie) and Greg Schrag (Karyne) all of McPherson; 9 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; 10 step grandchildren; 23 step great-grandchildren and one step great-great-grandson.

H.R. was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Sue; two brothers and three sisters.

A Funeral Service will be10:30 a.m. Saturday, February 5, 2022 at First Baptist Church, McPherson.&nbsp; Graveside Services with Military Honors and internment will take place at 4:00 p.m. Saturday, February 5, 2022 at Moran Cemetery, Moran.
