Elizabeth “Ann” Day, 78, passed away April 7, 2022, at Hospice House. She was born July 23, 1943, in Scott City, to Raymond A. and Juanita P. (Piros) Frank.

Ann graduated from Hutchinson High School and Peel’s Beauty College. She was a city kid who quickly adapted to farm life and no one outworked her. From sun up to sun down, Ann happily made sure everyone’s needs were taken care of, often neglecting her own. She loved quilting and gardening and was the glue that held the family together. Spring was Ann’s favorite time of the year because it meant she could go play in the dirt. Everything Ann created with her strong hands turned into a masterpiece. It gave her great joy to teach her great-grandchildren some of her rare talents. Ann was a life-time member of DDR, a unique organization devoted to the preservation of America’s great Western heritage.

On August 23, 1968, she married Russell E. “Russ” Day, in McPherson. They shared nearly 49 years of marriage before his death on August 9, 2017.

Ann is survived by: her daughters, Robin Fitzgerald (Tony McClelland) of McPherson; Brenda McLaughlin (Donny) of Kansas City, MO; grandchildren, Jimmy Rue, Ryan Oxley (Nicole), Amanda Oxley, Leah Milner, Trevor Milner; and 9 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by: her parents; son, Peter Day; and sister, Nickie Saunders.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Friday, April 15, 2022, at Elliott Chapel. Private family inurnment will take place at a later date. Following the service, the family invites everyone to join them for a meal at 3:30 p.m. Friday at Arlington United Methodist Church.

Linda Jane Algrim, 79, of Hutchinson, died April 4, 2022, at Hutchinson Regional Medical Center. She was born November 25, 1942, in Stafford, to Leonard and Marie (West) Ellis.

Linda graduated from Rolla High School in 1960, and then attended Adela Hale Business College. She worked in the Reno County Courthouse as a secretary for public works. Linda enjoyed cooking, baking, sewing, and playing card games. More than anything she loved to spend time with her children and grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.

On February 12, 1961, she married Alfred Morris Algrim, in Hutchinson. He passed away on November 21, 2005.

Linda is survived by: daughter, Lori Sanchez (George), Littleton, Colorado; sons, Gary Algrim (Lori), Nickerson, Clint Algrim (Kristina), Bella Vista, Arkansas; grandchildren, Tyler Algrim (Kim), Sara McGray (John), Ashley Clifford (Jason), Chase Algrim (Jessica), Amanda Mancillas (David), Matthew Sanchez (Alyssa), Kaisha O’Riordan, Kelsie O’Riordan, Kaneesha O’Riordan, Kassidy O’Riordan; 22 great-grandchildren; sister, Myrna Jones (Jim); and brothers, David Ellis (Chris), Gus Ellis (JoAnn), Mick Ellis (Sherry).

Linda Jane Algrim  |1942-2022| 

Delbert’s life began on November 24, 1934, in Arkansas City. He is the son of Jacob and Agatha (Epp) Wiebe, and a twin brother to Delmer Wiebe. 

Delbert was a lifelong area resident of Whitewater, and graduated from Berean Academy in 1954. After high school he went on to farm and bale hay before he began volunteering overseas with the PAX organization, doing road construction in Paraguay. When he returned to the States, he began dairy farming where he owned and operated Oaklawn Vue Dairy. Delbert married Hazel Marie (Chapple) on November 03, 1959, at Emmaus Church outside of Whitewater.&nbsp;

When Delbert wasn’t busy working on the farm, he loved woodworking, landscaping and lawn care. He was a Sound Tech Volunteer at the Emmaus Church and was part of Gideons International for twenty years. Many would say Delbert never met a stranger. Delbert loved his tractors and was very competitive in Tractor Pulls, attending competitions in Newton, Whitewater, and Halstead, earning many trophies over the years.

Most of all, Delbert enjoyed being with his loving family. He is survived by his wife Hazel, Whitewater, children, Delwin Wiebe, Illinois; Lorene (Phil) Lohrenz, Burrton; Marilyn (Alan) Mueller, Halstead; Karen (Ron) Colbert, Hesston;&nbsp; Daniel (Kerry) Wiebe, Whitewater;&nbsp; Marlene (David) Wiens, Hesston;&nbsp; grandchildren, Matthew Wiebe, Joshua Wiebe, Elijah (Sydney) Wiebe, Corey (Kelsey) Lohrenz, Jason (Lauren) Mueller, Natalia (Nick) Lee, Taryn (Matthew) Hauck, Kenton Wiebe, Tiana Wiebe, Kyler Wiebe, five great-grandchildren, twin brother, Delmer Wiebe, Newton, and many nieces and nephews.

Delbert, at the age of 87, entered the gates of Heaven on Friday April 08, 2022, and was reunited with his parents, Jacob and Agatha Wiebe, sister-in-law, Eleanor Wiebe and grandchildren, Melissa Clarkson and Makayla Mueller. 

His family will gather with friends on Monday, April 11, 2022, from 6:30 – 8:30 p.m. at Emmaus Church, Whitewater. His funeral service will be held on Tuesday, April 12, 2022, at 10:00 a.m. at Emmaus Church, with burial to follow at Emmaus Cemetery.&nbsp;

Gene Miller, 94, of Hutchinson, passed away on April 7, 2022. He helped family write this obituary years before he passed. Gene was born in Sedgwick, KS, on January 5, 1928, to Muriel Miller and George D. Miller. He grew up on a farm and enjoyed visiting his farmland throughout his life.

Gene left school to join the United States Navy at age 17 and served as Fireman, 1st&nbsp;Class, on the USS Daniel 335, in the South Pacific and for six months on the island of Guam. He was a lifetime member of the Destroyer Escort Sailors Association, the American Legion, and past commander of Halstead American Legion and Harvey County commander. He was a lifetime member of V.F.W&nbsp; # 1361, Hutchinson, and a member of 40/8 #324, Hutchinson. Governor Mike Hayden granted Gene ‘Honorary Colonel of the Kansas Calvary’.

Gene married Evelyn N. Hughes at the United Methodist church in Halstead on May 15, 1948. She was a devoted wife and mother and they shared 66 years together before her death in 2014.

Following his naval service, Gene worked bridge construction near Salina, KS.&nbsp; He received a United States Air Force scroll of appreciation in 1954 for an outstanding act of heroism the previous year while he was at work.&nbsp; Gene helped rescue airmen from a burning fuselage after a United States Air Force B-52 aircraft crashed in a corn field near Smoky Hill Air Force Base.

Gene worked ten years in bridge construction and 32 years with Rainbo Baking Company, formerly Betts Baking Company. He began as a salesman and retired as company president in 1988. Gene was a gentle giant, in contrast to the call sign he used on his CB radio, ‘Mean Gene’.&nbsp;

Gene was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church, Hutchinson. He was a 32nd&nbsp;Degree Master Mason belonging to Hutchinson Reno Lodge 124, a lifetime member of the Scottish Rite of Free Masonry, Wichita, a past member of the Midian Shrine, Wichita, and past president of the Reno County Shrine. &nbsp;Gene drove his 1985 white Mustang convertible in parades as a Road Runner with the Shriners.&nbsp; The car was purchased by a collector in New Zealand (Donald) and Gene maintained a friendship with Donald throughout his life.

Gene donated many hours volunteering at the NJCAA men’s basketball tournaments, Kansas State Fair, Hutchinson Friends of the Library bookstore, and driving veterans to the VA hospital in Wichita. He was a hard worker, loyal husband and friend, dedicated father and loving grandfather.&nbsp; Gene was proud to be a WWII veteran. Most of all, he was a good man.

Gene was preceded in death by: his parents; wife, Evelyn; brothers, George and Robert; sister, Marjorie Pierce; and best friend and companion, Joan Brenneman.

He is survived by: &nbsp;his son, Max Miller (Beth), Hutchinson; daughters, Nancy Johnson, Hutchinson, Loretta Blickenstaff (Joel), Arizona, and Brenda Miller, Arizona; grandchildren, Kara Johnson, Levi Short (Shannon), Joey Short (Kelli), and Radimir Blickenstaff; great-grandchildren, BéLynn, Sage, Ethan S., Colby, and Ethan C.; and great-grand dogs, Buddy and Walter.

Hutchinson – Florence L. Carlson, 80, died April 7, 2022 at Hospice House, Hutchinson. She was born September 2, 1941 in Moundridge, KS, the daughter of Clifford and Marie (Koehn) Becker.

On June 4, 1960, Florence married Donald Yingling in McPherson, KS. He died April 26, 2000. She later married Vernie Carlson on January 4, 2003 in Hutchinson. He died on July 3, 2005. Florence worked for Wesley Towers as a CNA and in transportation and retired after 25 years. Florence enjoyed cooking, painting, reading and gardening. She also enjoyed collecting angels and recently had an interest in watching hummingbirds. Florence was a member of 10th Ave. United Methodist Church.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husbands, Donald Yingling and Vernie Carlson; a step-son, Rex Carlson; a grandson, Jake Kinney; a sister, Francis Ricks and a brother, Jimmy Becker.

She graduated in 1954 from Goessel high school. After graduation, she became a waitress at the corner lunch Newton Kansas where she met Gerald, “Jerry “ Redinger. They married on June 3, 1956. They lovingly adopted 2 infants, Vincent in1962 and Sheryl in 1966 They were farmers and custom harvesters.

Darlene became a Mary Kay Cosmetics consultant selling skin care and cosmetics from 1980 to 2021,&nbsp; In the 90s, Darlene decided that farming would not pay for cruises. She became a Realtor for Reality Connections in Newton KS adding new family friends and taking 13 Cruises in 10 years.

Darlene is preceded in Death by her husband Gerald Redinger, Parents, Peter and Margaret (Franz) Nickel, Brothers Johnny Nickel, William Nickel, and Sisters Luella Hiebert, Esther Schowalter, and Dorothy Foth.&nbsp; She leaves behind two Children Vince (Brenda)&nbsp; Redinger, Halstead, and Sheryl (Gary Archer) Redinger, Halstead. Grandsons Matthew Balzer, Oklahoma City, OK;&nbsp; Ryan Redinger Halstead;&nbsp; Andrew Wolfenberger, Marshfield, WI; Michael Blanco and Thomas Blanco both of Kansas City, Nephew Bruce Schowalter who took loving care of her while on hospice, and many nephews and nieces.&nbsp; She was a loving , mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend. Gary was a 1957 graduate of Hutchinson High School.&nbsp; He worked in the lab at Eaton Corporation, retiring with over 40 years of service.&nbsp; Gary was a member of Faith United Methodist Church, Hutchinson.

He enjoyed gardening and building koi ponds.&nbsp; Gary had a real love for his animals and wildlife.

On September 1, 1963, he married Pamela Anne Wernet, in Hutchinson.&nbsp; They shared over 58 years of marriage.

Carol Nurse Vester, 84, died April 2, 2022, after a long battle with IPF.&nbsp; She was born January 16, 1938, in rural Barber County, to Walter Scott and Ethel (Hunt) Nurse.

Carol attended schools in Barber County and graduated from Oklahoma State University (OSU).&nbsp; She was a member of and strong supporter of the Alpha Chi Omega sorority at OSU and maintained a close relationship with her ‘sisters’.&nbsp; Carol was a school teacher in Stafford and Tribune.&nbsp; While living in Reno County, she taught at the Fairfield schools and Nickerson Reno Valley school system, before retiring in 2005.&nbsp; Carol taught girls’ physical education, health, coached tennis, and retired as a librarian and media specialist.&nbsp; She was cherished and loved by many of her students and associates during her career in education.

On August 25, 1963, Carol married Richard H. Vester.&nbsp; They would have celebrated 59 years of marriage this August.&nbsp; Their son, R. Scott Vester, was born January 26, 1969, in Tribune, KS.

Carol and Richard were active members of the Winnebago RV clubs and enjoyed the camaraderie of the many lifelong friends made with a wonderful variety of people.&nbsp; She especially enjoyed the Winnebago caravan to Alaska.

Carol is survived by: &nbsp;her husband of the home; son, Scott of Los Angeles, CA; numerous nieces and nephews; and of course, her beloved students.

She was preceded in death by:&nbsp; her parents; sister, Betty DeMint; and brothers, Marvin M. Nurse and Jack D. Nurse.

She was born Dec. 30, 1935 the daughter of Richard and Frances Sheahan McFadden.&nbsp; A lifetime resident of the Kingman community, she was a retired First Grade teacher for St. Patrick’s Catholic Grade School.

Maureen was a member and organist of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, the D of I, and the Altar Society, all of Kingman.

On November 7, 1958 she married Kenneth W. Symonds in Oklahoma, to this union they were blessed with three daughters, Vickie, Debbie, and Kimmie. Wilma was a devoted wife and mother. She was soft spoken and had a gentle soul.&nbsp;&nbsp;Anyone who met her grew to love her. Wilma dedicated her life to her husband and children. She enjoyed painting ceramics and crocheting.&nbsp; She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Kenneth; a daughter, Vickie Markhart; and three brothers, Orville, Larry, and Donald Drake. Lori Ann Swanson, 64, of Mcpherson, passed away at 8am, Tuesday, April 5th, suddenly, at her home. Lori was born in McPherson, on October 17, 1957, a daughter of Doris Elaine (Spradlin) and Carl Wallace Swanson. Lori attended Santa Fe Country School, McPherson Junior High and graduated from McPherson High School, McPherson, in 1975. She then attended and graduated from Hutchinson Community College, Hutchinson. Lori was blessed with the birth of a son, Adam Christopher in January of 1985. Through the years Lori worked as a X-Ray Technician for the Medicine Lodge Hospital, Medicine Lodge, Moberly Hospital, Moberly, Missouri, Hertzler Clinic, Halstead, and Hutchinson Clinic, Hutchinson. Lori enjoyed hanging out with her friends, watching the football games especially the Kansas City Chief's, helping friends out, and spending time with family. She loved delivering meals for Meals on Wheels and helping friends get to their appointments, fried chicken and French Silk Pie. Lori really enjoyed her dog's and cat's and caring for strays. Lori had a strong faith in her God. She is survived by her son, Adam Swanson, of McPherson, Kansas; her mother Doris Swanson, of McPherson; her brother, Dale Swanson and wife Kris Swanson, of McPherson; her nieces, Karin Krehbiel and husband Jay, of McPherson, and Leslie Lyman and husband Justin, of Overland Park; other relatives and a host of friends. She loved delivering meals for Meals on Wheels and helping friends get to their appointments, fried chicken and French Silk Pie. Lori really enjoyed her dog's and cat's and caring for strays. Lori had a strong faith in her God. She is survived by her son, Adam Swanson, of McPherson, Kansas; her mother Doris Swanson, of McPherson; her brother, Dale Swanson and wife Kris Swanson, of McPherson; her nieces, Karin Krehbiel and husband Jay, of McPherson, and Leslie Lyman and husband Justin, of Overland Park; other relatives and a host of friends. Lori was preceded in death by her father, Carl W. Swanson. A Celebration of Life Come and Go will be held from 2 pm to 4 pm, on Saturday, April 16th, 2022 at Glidden - Ediger Chapel in McPherson.

Kenneth Brian Wood, age 64, passed away on April 2, 2022 at Pratt Regional Medical Center, Pratt.  He was born on Mar. 27, 1958 at Larned, the son of Norman E. and Betty (Giebler) Wood. 

 He received a Bachelor’s Degree in Industrial Arts from Fort Hays State University and was a graduate of Valley Irrigation Technical School.  Kenneth was a life-long farmer and a member of the St. Bernard’s Catholic Church, Belpre, and the Kinsley Gun Club. 

 On May 23, 1981, he married Sheila F. (Smith) at Hays, she passed away in 1996.  On July 27, 1998, he married Melinda Rae (Jarnagin) at Pratt, she survives of the home.  Other survivors include his mother, Betty Wood, Pratt; 4 daughters, Janna Lee (Josh) Nelson, Marquette; Jamie Lauren (Eric) Weeks, Brownell; Jenna Lynn (Kyle) Loomis, Wichita; Janessa Leslie (Ryan) Asher, Wichita; a step-daughter, Shelby Rae Jarnagin, Pratt; a brother, Darrell N. (Natalie) Wood, Trousdale; sister, Karen L. Theodore Calvin Ronen, better known as Ted, 86, Hutchinson KS, died on April 4, 2022, at Hospice House.

He was born July 29, 1935, in Wichita, to William Loren and Marie Olivette (Weihe) Ronen.&nbsp; He grew up in Kansas and was a graduate of St. John High School in 1953.&nbsp; He graduated from Kansas State Teachers College (currently Emporia State University)&nbsp;with a degree in business administration/marketing in 1957.&nbsp; While in college, he played junior varsity basketball for two years and was a member of the men’s chorale and glee club.&nbsp;

Ted married Adele Marie Wilkens on December 28, 1955, when he was a junior at KSTC, Emporia.

Ted was co-owner of Meade Mfg. in Meade.&nbsp; He later started his own business in Meade, The Ronen Agency, which served the public in insurance, real estate, and securities. &nbsp;Most recently, after moving to Hutchinson, he was a real estate broker (aka The Cookie Man) for Coldwell Banker Americana from 1991 until his retirement in 2012.

In Meade, he was a member of Lions Club, a member of the school board for 8 years, a member of the Chamber of Commerce, and he served on the City Council for several years.&nbsp; He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church.&nbsp; He was in a bowling league and played on the men’s softball team.&nbsp; He coached his young sons’ baseball and basketball teams.&nbsp; Ted’s greatest interest/hobby was cars—especially Fords.&nbsp; He also enjoyed attending his children’s and grandchildren’s activities.

Survivors include his wife of 66 years, Adele, of Hutchinson; 4 children, Pamela Jo Gillen (Bob) of McPherson, Michael Ronen (Lisa) of Kechi, Jack Ronen (Vonda) of Wichita, and Jeffrey Ronen (Michelle) of Wichita; 2 brothers, Jim Ronen (Cibyl) of Henderson TN, and Bill Ronen (Peggy) of Bosque Farms NM; 1 sister, Heidi Goodman (Gerald) of Hutchinson; 10 grandchildren, Kelsey Smyth, Valerie Bryant (Scott), Amanda Harmon (Chad), Rebecca Walenz (Sam), Kyle Ronen (Lauren), Kirk Ronen, Derek Ronen, Christopher Ronen (Taylor), Kevin Ronen, and Casie Taylor (David); 3 step-grandchildren, Seth Blehm, Avery McCulloch, and Mackenzie McCulloch; 10 great-grandchildren, Anderson Bryant, Connor Bryant, Alice Bryant, Collin Harmon, Grace Harmon, Jonah Walenz, Brantley Ronen, Jackson Ronen, Kendall Ronen, and Chandler Ronen; and 1 step-great-grandchild, Bryleigh Godfrey.&nbsp; Ted was predeceased by a great-granddaughter, Olivia Walenz.

M'Kala Jill (Bobbitt) Whitson was born June 6, 1969, to Bob and Beverly Bobbitt in Houma, LA. 

She was the youngest child with three siblings: brother Scott (Patti) of Harper; and sisters Kathy (Jon) Chamberlain of Prairieville, LA; and Lesli (Ed) Miles of Canton. The family moved back to Great Bend, when she was a few months old where she grew up and attended school graduating in the class of 1987. Her daughter KaiLei Megan was born in 1989 and shortly after she began her life's work as a daycare provider in Great Bend. 

M'Kala met her husband Ted in 1999 and they were married June 2, 2001, in Pratt. Ted had three children and she openly admitted to falling in love with the kids before him. After their marriage M'Kala opened her daycare in Pratt. In 2003 M'Kala and Ted became foster parents. Their first long-term placement came in March 2006 when two sisters came into their lives. The girls quickly became part of their household and their older sister Alicia even lived with the family for two years. In 2008 the two girls were adopted. 

M’Kala and Ted’s children are Linn (Jeremy) Walters of Olathe; KaiLei Petz of Pratt, KS; Anelise (Kevin) Towne of Wichita; Jakob (Ryna-Ria) Whitson of Pratt; Brittany Whitson of Osborn; and Cassie Whitson of the home. M'Kala's eight grandchildren - Carter, Tripp, Lilly, Arlo, Maisy, Emma, Nora and Hazel-Dean - had the most special place in her life. Mimi could always be counted on for unconditional love and sweets. She is preceded in death by her parents and brother and leaves behind many nieces and nephews and other family as well as countless friends across the country. 

Over the years M'Kala loved and nurtured hundreds of children in her home. Caring for children, especially babies, was her passion and heart's delight. Not only were the children cared for but also many anxious new parents relied on M'Kala's knowledge and comfort. She was a bright spot in the world and will be missed by all. 

A celebration of M'Kala's life will be held April 16th, 2022, at Larrison Mortuary, 300 Country Club Road, Pratt at 10:00 a.m. followed by a meal and an Easter Egg hunt for all at Lemon Park, East Shelter, Pratt. Inurnment will be take place at a later date at Greenlawn Cemetery, Pratt.&nbsp;

She worked at Equishare Credit Union for 21 years serving as Vice-President for many of those years. She recently worked with Lending Tree Financial.

She was preceded in death by her grandparents, Eugene &amp; Ina Lee Boatman, and Karl &amp; Beatrice Ammersbach. Lori is survived by her parents Steven &amp; Kassie (Boatman) Knight of Rhome Texas, David Knight (brother) of Wichita Kansas, Jeff &amp; Priscilla Saville (uncle/aunt) of Carrollton Texas, cousins Mason &amp; Carissa Robbins of Edmond Oklahoma, Chad &amp; Eliza Saville of Little Elm Texas, and 5 second cousins.

Lori was a volunteer at Joy Animal Rescue Mission and became an advocate for all rescue pets.

Leah Fern Walker Crotts, 96, died April 3, 2022, in Pretty Prairie. She was born December 5, 1925, in Bluff City, to Walter and Ida (Preheim) Walker, the fifth of seven children.

Fern graduated from Bluff City High School and Grace Hospital School of Nursing.&nbsp; On August 24, 1947, she married Harold Eugene Crotts, in Harper. They made their home on the family farm, between Penalosa and Turon, where they raised their six children.

Fern was known for her love of a good game, with cards and Scrabble being her favorite.&nbsp; She always played to win!&nbsp; Fern also made incredible pies and was a voracious reader.

She preceded in death by:&nbsp; her parents; husband; sisters, Bess Comes, Libby Walker, and Ann Ott; and brothers, Victor Walker and Walter Walker.

Fern leaves behind:&nbsp; sons, Neil Crotts, Dodge City;Alan (Vicki) Crotts, Turon; Leigh (Sharon) Crotts, Phoenix, AZ; Wayne (Susan) Crotts, Hutchinson; Jon (Debbie) Crotts, Garden City; and daughter, Anne (Mike) Dowell, Hutchinson; grandchildren, Angela, Melissa, Bret, Levi, Matt, Tara, Zach, Nicole, Leah, and Tyler; 16 great-grandchildren; and a sister, Judy Parsons of Pretty Prairie.

Linda Kay Branson  |1944-2022| 

Barbara Jane Spencer, 80, died April 2, 2022, at Diversicare of Hutchinson. She was born October 21, 1941, in Hutchinson, to Bill and Marjorie (Goodwin) Wallace.

Barb graduated from Hutchinson High School in 1958. She did some modeling in her teenage years. Barb was an avid frog collector, amassing nearly 4,000 frogs. She also enjoyed making Christmas ornaments for all her church family, crocheting, and making towels for veterans. Barb attended First Church of God.

On May 24, 1958, she married Dennis C. “Denny” Spencer, in Hutchinson. They shared nearly 59 years of marriage before his death on January 2, 2017.

Barb is survived by: her sons, Steve Spencer of Buhler, Chris Spencer of Kansas City; granddaughter, Molly Spencer of Wichita; sister, Annie May Metzler of Hutchinson; brothers, Charles Bibbs of Hutchinson, Gene Bibbs and Jerry Bibbs, both of Beebe, AR; and several extended family members.

She was preceded in death by: her parents; daughter-in-law, Debra Spencer; and sister, Cathie Weeks.

Funeral service will be 10 a.m. Saturday, April 9, 2022, at Elliott Chapel. Burial will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery. Friends may call from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m., with family present to receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Friday at Elliott Mortuary.

Barbara Jane Spencer, 80, died April 2, 2022, at Diversicare of Hutchinson. She was born October 21, 1941, in Hutchinson, to Bill and Marjorie (Goodwin) Wallace.Barb graduated from Hutchinson High School in 1958. She did some modeling in her teenage years. Barb was an avid frog collector, amassing nearly 4,000 frogs. She also enjoyed making Christmas ornaments for all her church family, crocheting, and making towels for veterans. Barb attended First Church of God.On May 24, 1958, she married Dennis C. “Denny” Spencer, in Hutchinson. Raymond Joseph (Joe/Joe, Joe/Bishop) Carnaghi was born on December 23, 1954 in Bloomington, Illinois to Raymond and Mary Carnaghi.

He peacefully passed from this life on April 3, 2022 in Pratt. One of his great passions from an early age was music, not as a performer but as a composer, collector, and enthusiast. His collection included not only music but the various machines that played his beloved music. His dream was to open a free music history museum that would display his multiple Edison players, Victrolas, and 1950 vintage record players. He had a vast collection of Edison spindles, one sided records, 78s, 45s, and modern vinyl. He loved to share his love of music with every and anyone who would listen. His knowledge of early rock and roll trivia was second to none. Another passion of Joe’s was 1950-60 TV shows. Among his favorites were The Wild Wild West, Batman, Gunsmoke, Gilligan’s Island, and The Monkeys. Joe had a fantastic imagination and loved to make up and record stories for his nieces and nephew when they were small. Music and old TV shows was not Joe’s only passion. He was a dedicated sports fan and loved his Kansas City Chiefs, KC Royals, K-State football, and KU basketball. Joe moved a lot as a child attending school in 3 states and multiple towns. He attended Syracuse High School in Syracuse, for 10th and 11th grade and considered Syracuse his hometown. He graduated from Emporia High School in May 1973. He attended and graduated from St. Mary of the Plains College in Dodge City, in May 1977. Joe settled in Larned, and worked at the Larned State Hospital for 27 years in the Food Service Department. While at the State Hospital, Joe mentored many inmates and was proud that he was a part of their rehabilitation. Joe retired from Larned State Hospital in August 2012. Joe faced many physical and other challenges during his life, but he persevered and lived his life his way. Joe had a distinct sense of humor and will be missed by all who took the time to get to know him. Joe always had a friendly ear to anyone who just needed someone to talk to. Joe was preceded in death by his father, Raymond Carnaghi, his mother, Mary Carnaghi, two brothers who died at birth, nephew, Raymond Register, and a great-nephew, Jackson Villella. He is survived by his 4 sisters, Susan (Frank) Beyerl of Belen, NM; Beth (Mauri) Register of Pratt; Annie (Rich) Pincus of Belen, NM; and Kay (Kelly) Russell of Belen, NM. Joe also leaves behind 2 nieces, Nichole (Domonic) Villella and Janelle Beyerl, and a nephew, Justin (Jordan) Beyerl, 3 great-nephews, Domonic Jr, Harison Villella and Judah Beyerl and 2 great nieces Madison Villella and Jayden Beyerl. Mava Dawn Powell, 82, of Hardtner, died Sunday, April 3, 2022 at Medicine Lodge Memorial Hospital. She was born on November 11, 1939 in Alva, OK, the daughter of J.B. “Buck” Whitchurch and Lola (Gilleland) Whitchurch. Mava was a 1957 graduate of Medicine Lodge High School. She was a member of the Alva Chapter 1643 Women of the Moose, Alva, OK. Mava was the second highest rank with the Moose and her and Jim went to all of the Moose functions over the years. Surviving are her husband, Jim E. Powell of Hardtner; two sons, Ricky Davis of Bucklin, and Rocky Davis of Medicine Lodge; two daughters, Roxanne (Jim) Johnson of Medicine Lodge, and Renee (Gary) Schultz of Hardtner; two stepsons, Randy (Olivia) Powell of Louisiana, and Jeff (Kathie) Powell of Medicine Lodge; one stepdaughter, Debbie; one brother, Bill Whitchurch; numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren. Funeral services will be held on Friday, April 8, 2022 at 2:00 p.m. at Hardtner United Methodist Church, Hardtner, with Pastor Margaret Johnson officiating. Burial will be in the Hardtner Cemetery, Hardtner.

Betty Jean (McGinn) Hanna, 102, homemaker and retired co-owner of Hanna Furniture Company, Inc. passed away at home April 1, 2022 surrounded by family. She was born May 10, 1919 to Margaret (O’Keefe) and John McGinn on the family farm in Sedgwick. 

She married George J. Hanna on January 28, 1949. Betty was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Altar Society and St. Mary’s Choir. She was faithful to her hour at the Our Lady of Guadalupe Perpetual Adoration Chapel for 30 years. She joined Sorosis Club in 1967 and attained Honorary Member status. She enjoyed the fellowship and remained active until recent years. Betty’s true vocation was motherhood. She loved being a mother and raising her family. Throughout her life she nurtured many other children but was especially nurturing of her grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Betty was predeceased by her husband, George; siblings and spouses: Irene McGinn, Sam (Virginia) McGinn, Florence (Doug) Stites, Kay (Lynn) Stanley and Lois (George) Miller.

Betty is survived by children Tim Hanna (Karen Klein); Mike Hanna; Kit (TR) Goering; Lee (Bob) Koehn; Teresa (Doug) Larson and Claire (Tony) Young.

William Douglas Meyer 77, died April 1, 2022 at Newton Medical Center. He was born December 2, 1944 in Flandreau, South Dakota to William N. Meyer and Alvina C. Johnson Meyer.&nbsp; 

His parents were traveling evangelists for The Church of God of the Firstborn and he was raised on street meetings where his parents would spread the gospel for Christ.&nbsp; They later settled in Wichita, where he spent his teenage years.&nbsp; He started work at an early age and landed a great job as a potwasher for the Forum Cafeteria where he later was promoted many times and worked for them 17 years total.&nbsp; He took a promotion in 1966 to go to Miami FL with the Forum where he met his love, Madeline.&nbsp;&nbsp; They were married on May 7, 1967 in Miami, FL.&nbsp; He took many promotions and traveled as a chef, manager and troubleshooter with the Forum Cafeteria, getting the restaurants in shape and making them profitable.&nbsp; He was saved on July 9, 1972 in Chicago, IL.&nbsp; &nbsp;From that time on, his goal was to get back to his childhood church in Kansas and reunite with his family. &nbsp;&nbsp;He finally took a position to manage a small restaurant, the Hesston Colonial House in 1974, and moved back to Kansas.&nbsp; After a couple of years he moved to Newton, and worked for a year with the MBPXL meat packing plant in Wichita as a butcher.&nbsp;

 In 1977, following the advice of a great man of God he admired, Bro AG Etterman, he took a position as a meat cutter at a small grocery/deli in Newton, called Gillespie’s Market on 1st&nbsp;street.&nbsp; He worked there until it closed in 1988.&nbsp; He was able to share his testimony with many people that shopped there, as well as the people he worked with.&nbsp; He served as Sunday school Superintendent, then Deacon and finally in 1986 became the minister for the Newton Church of God of the Firstborn where he served until his death.&nbsp; He also used his restaurant experience to manage the church kitchen for the annual church conference each year in September and served as the Board Treasurer as well.

He was a hard worker, mowing lawns, working at the church, doing handyman work, anything to make ends meet and to make sure the church was maintained.&nbsp; He always put God 1st&nbsp;in his life, then his church family, then his natural family.&nbsp; He traveled many times a year with the church to revival meetings all over the US and Mexico, he sold bibles and songbooks for the church and loved working for the church, witnessing for the Lord and helping people.&nbsp; He loved playing the mandolin in church, he enjoyed bluegrass gospel music and loved old black and white westerns.&nbsp; He was also famous for using duct tape, silicone and white out to fix just about anything.&nbsp;&nbsp; He did not know a stranger and made sure anyone he talked to knew his testimony and love for the Lord.&nbsp; He will be greatly missed by all.

He was preceded in death by his parents, nephew Jeff Wheeler, sister-in-law Cindy Meyer, brother-in-law, Cameron Roatch, sister Paula Garms.&nbsp; He is survived by his wife, Madeline Meyer and daughter Tina Meyer, 3 step children, Toby Cline, Tamy Cline Bellis, Beverly Cline Slager, 3 step grandchildren and 1 step great grandson; 11 brothers and sisters:&nbsp; David, Darlene, Kenneth, Candi (Sharon), John, Esther, Wayne, PJ (Peggy), Carl, Alan, Ron, many sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law and many nephews and nieces and other extended family.

Funeral service will be 2:00 p.m., Saturday, April 9, 2022 at The Church of God of the Firstborn on South Kansan Avenue in Newton, Kansas with Pastors Pete Etterman and Simon Ledesma officiating.&nbsp; Visitation will be 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. Friday at the church.
