Mary J. Daily Clemmer, 93, of Tampa, KS formerly of Emporia passed on February 14, 2022. Mary was born on Easter Sunday, April 8, 1928 in Neosho Rapids, KS to Charles and Mary Bills Daily. She graduated from Emporia High School and was married to James E. Clemmer, on November 19, 1946. She was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church, Tampa, KS.

Mary was survived by three of her sons, Ronald E. of Tampa; Donald A. &amp; Staci; Dale Lee, both of Salina; Daughter-in-law, Mary G.,Salina and sister, Jo Anne Fowler, Emporia. Eight Grandchildren, Katherine (Kathi) &amp; Nyle Sutton, Topeka; Shawn &amp; Karin Clemmer, Salina; Dahn &amp; Chris Walker, Salina; Charles (Charlie) &amp; Heather Clemmer, Lincolnville; Cassie Clemmer &amp; Christopher Dean (fiance’), Salina; Gwen Robinson; Lisa Robinson, both of Chico, CA.; Teresa Robinson, Salina. She is preceded in death by her husband, James; son, James B. Clemmer; two grandchildren, Amy &amp; James Andrew Clemmer; one great-grandchild, Jessica Robinson; six sisters and five brothers.

Mary left a legacy of love for her family, she taught them to be loyal, honest, kind and to always look out for one another. She was a purposeful stay-at-home mom until her sons were in High School, then for 30 faithful years she was a bookkeeper for Cardie Oil, Inc. of Tampa. She was a diligent gardener growing vegetables, an avid reader and she also enjoyed sewing. Her family also remembers her for her love of baseball/softball and has passed down that love to many of her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Her joys in life were Christ as her Savior, her husband, Jim; her 4 sons and their families; her parents, all of her brothers and sisters and their families, sewing, reading and her garden.

Services will be held at St. John’s Lutheran Church, Tampa, KS on Monday, February 21, 2022 at 10:00 am. The burial will be in Mount Hope Cemetery, Neosho Rapids, KS. Memorials can be made to St. John’s Lutheran Church of Tampa, KS.

Harold Amos Tilton, 91, of Sterling, passed away February 15, 2022, at Hospital District #1 of Rice County, Lyons. He was born January 5, 1931, near Sylvia, the son of Alto Harold “Bill” and Viola Grace Fox Tilton. 

Harold graduated from Sterling High School with the class of 1949, and later received his master’s degree in education from Emporia State University. He has resided in Sterling since 1970, moving from Salina. Harold taught school for thirty-five years, was a farmer for twenty-nine years and worked as a carpenter his entire life. He served in the United States Army from January 9, 1952 until December 12, 1953, serving fifteen months in Korea. Harold was a member of the United Presbyterian Church, Sterling, life member of the American Legion Post 128, Sterling, life member of the Veteran of Foreign Wars, and life member of the National Education Association.

 On November 5, 1950, Harold was united in marriage with Dorothy Fern Jones in Nickerson. She preceded him in death on December 3, 2005. 

He is also preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, LaVerne and Jim Tilton; and sister, Marie Tilton Wegner. Harold is survived by his two sons, Richard and Lane Tilton both of Sterling; daughter, Christa Tilton Bishop and husband Kelly of Leoti; five grandchildren, Sabrina Pipkin, Brad Tilton, Rebecca Skalinder and husband Dakota, Lillian Martinez and husband Jose, and Kyla Owens and husband Paden; nine great grandchildren, Jeremy and Weston Pipkin, Kholby Deforest, Nayeli Martinez, Kelly Bishop Owens, Mesa Rae Owens, Mercy Johanna Owens, Raegan Leola Owens, and Bryson Pruitt. 

Funeral service will be at 10:30 A.M., Monday, February 21, 2022, at the United Presbyterian Church, Sterling, with Pastor Melissa Krabbe officiating. Harold Amos Tilton  |1931-2022| 

Carrol Duane Bemiss, 78, died February 12, 2022, in Hutchinson. Carrol was born on June 21, 1943, in Stamford, NE to Robert and Evelyn (Russell) Bemiss.

On June 2. 1978, Carrol married Judith Elaine Trinkle, in Hutchinson. Judith died on November 14, 2014.

Carrol graduated from Overton High School and retired after 33 years from Haven Steel as a Machine Operator. Carrol served in the United States Army and served two tours in Intelligence and Communications during the Vietnam Conflict. He is an active member of the Hutchinson American Legion Lysle Rishel Post #68 , and a lifetime member of the Hutchinson VFW Bob Campbell Post 1361.

Survivors include: nieces Dusty Bemiss, Robin (Manuel) Garcia, Chris (John) Heard; brother, Billy (Lois) Bemiss; sister-in-law, Melinda Bemiss; many other nieces and nephews; and great nieces and nephews.

Carrol was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Gary, Al, Robert and Terry Bemiss; and sister, Darlene Little.

Graveside service will be 1:00 p.m. Saturday, February 26, 2022, at Shelman Cemetery, Cunningham, KS. with Todd Ray presiding. Friends may sign the book Monday thru Saturday 9-5 and Sunday 1-5 with family to greet friends on Friday, February 25, 2022 from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m.

Elven Keith Zongker, 89, passed away Tuesday, February 15, 2022 at Hospice House, Hutchinson, KS.

He was born January 12, 1933 in Garden City, KS, the son of Elven G. and Lottie E. (Butts) Zongker. On July 13, 1952 he married Dorothy M. Kelly in Ulysses, KS. Elven worked for US Department of Agriculture and retired after 27 years. Elven was a member of Countryside Baptist Church where he was an active member. He was also a member of the IOOF and NARFE.

Elven is survived by his loving wife, Dorothy; two sons, Randall (Susan) Zongker and Kirk (Kathy) Zongker; two daughters, Debra Erxleben and Shana (Jesse) Burgess; nine grandchildren, Amanda (Joshua) Linnell, Sarah (Preston) Snider, Adam (Jessica) Zongker, Molly (Pippin) Williamson, Luke (Jessica) Zongker, Grace (Lane) Wiens, Faith Zongker, Nathan (Kellie) Lawless, and Loren (Kate) Lawless; and 17 great grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, February 19, 2022 at Countryside Baptist Church 819 W. 30th Ave, Hutchinson. Burial will take place at Memorial Park Cemetery. Robert “Bob” Cary Wilson, 82, completed his earth-bound journey on February 13, 2022, in South Hutchinson. He was born November 27, 1939 in Dodge City, to Frank Wilson and Lois (VanFleet) Foster. 

Bob was preceded in death by his parents; step-father, Lewis Foster; two sisters, Marylou Love and Delores McNew; wife, Yvonne Wilson; second wife, Janice Wilson Tipton; and step-daughter Angela Wilson.

He is survived by: brother, Bill Wilson, of McPherson; daughters, Julie Oetting (Lyle) of Wichita, Pam Walker, of Wichita, Crystal Wilson, of Hutchinson; step-daughter, Cindy Conner of Sayre, OK; 10 grandchildren; many great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephew, and friends.

Vivian “Carol” Hopping, 51, of McPherson, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, February 8, 2022, at Seiling Regional Medical Center in Seiling, OK.&nbsp; She was a former Behavior Specialist at East Central Cooperative in Education for Eudora/Wellsville/Baldwin Schools.&nbsp; She was also a former ED Teacher for McPherson USD 418.

Carol was born on July 12, 1970, in West Frankfort, IL, the daughter of Larry Lynn and Evelyn Louise (Marvel) Leeper.&nbsp; She graduated from Waldo J Memorial High School (in Oakland City, IN) and continued her education at Tabor College, Central Christian College, Indiana Wesleyan University and ACCK.&nbsp;

Carol was united in marriage to Russell L. Hopping on November 18, 2006 in Lawrence, KS, and this marriage was blessed with a daughter, Danika.&nbsp; Prior to this, Carol was married to Richard Sabatos, and this union was blessed with three boys, Damik, Dylan, and Dayne.&nbsp;

Carol was a member of Harmony Christian Church and was a former Kansas Teacher of the Year recipient.

Survivors include: her loving husband, Russell Hopping of the home; sons, Damik Sabatos (Theresa) of &nbsp;Greenville, IL, Dylan Sabatos of McPherson, and Dayne Sabatos of Naples, FL; a daughter, Danika Hopping of McPherson; and siblings, William Thomas Bacon, III of Evansville, IN, Tresa Bacon Bumgardner of Highpoint, NC, Patricia Bacon of Belvidere, IL, Melissa Leeper Drew of Royal Oak, MI, and Jerry Dunn of Indianapolis, IN; and many extended family and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Fred Conaway.

Joseph Louis Zink, 65, of Bushton, passed away February 14, 2022, at Research Medical Center, Kansas, City, Missouri. He was born November 7, 1956, in Ellinwood, the son of Louis and Helen Hickel Zink. 

Joseph was a lifetime Bushton resident. He graduated from Bushton High School with the class of 1974 and attended Barton County Community College. Joseph was a lifetime farmer and carpenter. He was a member of Holy Name of Jesus Catholic Church, Bushton, and member of Knights of Columbus Council #1187 of Ellinwood. 

On July 30, 1983, Joseph was united in marriage with Joni Abell at Holy Name of Jesus Catholic Church, Bushton. She survives of the home. He is also survived by his three sons, Christopher Zink and wife Summer and their children, Cameron and Lillianna of Bushton, Nicholas Zink and wife Bailey and their children, Kendall and Logan of Claflin, KS, and Patrick Zink and wife Crystal and their children, Kaymi and Carter of Claflin; daughter, Katelyn Zink and fiancé Kyle Klindworth of Overland Park; two brothers, David Zink and wife Sandy of Great Bend, and Dennis Zink and wife Teri of Bushton; two sisters, Kathy Massoth and husband Ernie of Cimarron; and Julie Spence and husband Byron of Tulsa, OK; and many nieces and nephews.

Ruth Marie Martinie, 73, of Hutchinson, died February 13, 2022, at her home. She was born February 7, 1949, in Hutchinson, to Richard J. and Mary (Urban) Webb Jr.

Ruth graduated from Hutchinson High School in 1967 and Hutchinson Community College in 1969. She lived in Arizona, where she raised her daughter, sold real estate, renovated homes and managed a winter visitor resort. Ruth returned to Hutchinson in her retirement to be closer to family. She was very active, and loved working outdoors. Ruth appreciated a good project and a hot cup of coffee. She was a member of Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church, South Hutchinson.

On February 12th, 2022, Leroy Earl Pickard III died from complications of diseases connected to his time serving in the US Army, in Vietnam.

Earl was born to Leroy Earl Pickard Jr. and Kathryn Pickard. Earl grew up in Concordia, KS, where he became a stand out athlete, especially in football. Earl attended West Point Military Academy after high school and went on to graduate from Kansas State University (KSU), where he also played football. Earl married the woman that he would adore for the remainder of his life, Trish Pickard, and they were married for over 57 years. Just before their first-born arrived Earl was deployed to Vietnam, where he was in the first major battle of the war, which was depicted in the movie "We Were Soldiers".

Earl became a Christian at West Point Military Academy and went on to devote his life to working in Christian ministry and became known as "The Praying Man", he was a warrior both physically and spiritually. Earl spent 40 years working for Campus Crusade for Christ (CRU) and led countless prayer missions across the globe. He had a love for Israel and led 17 prayer missions to Israel. Earl was once told that it was too hard to be a businessman and run a ministry, so he ended up owning and operating three restaurants with a classmate from KSU while still running a ministry. Earl later went back to full time ministry and joined Pathways Church in Wichita, KS as the growth pastor. He was the city-wide prayer leader in Wichita and a state-wide prayer leader for Kansas for seven years. Earl earned his Master’s degree in Church Growth, he was the National Prayer leader for CRU during the 1990s, and on the executive committee for the National Prayer Committee for 30 years.

Earl and Trish moved to Hutchinson, to be closer to their adult children and their grandchildren. Earl was proceeded in death by his father and mother. Earl is survived by: his wife, Trish; his three children, Stacia Purcell (John), Jana McClarty (Rob), Thad Pickard (Neeley); his two brothers, Stephen Pickard and Price Pickard. Earl has five grandchildren, four great-grandchildren.

Loran Eugene Arnold passed away at home, surrounded by his family on Monday, February 14, 2022.&nbsp; He was born in Spring Hill, on August 6, 1929.&nbsp; He was one of seven children born to James and Lora Marie Arnold.&nbsp;

Loran grew up in Spring Hill and attended Shawnee Mission High School.&nbsp; Later, his family moved to Spivey, where he graduated from Spivey High School in 1947.&nbsp; After high school, Loran attended Hutchinson Junior College where he graduated in 1951.&nbsp;

While attending college, he met the love of his life, Betty Joan Darnell while they both worked at the Dillons Store at B and Main Street.&nbsp; They were married May 3, 1951, at Trinity Methodist Church, Hutchinson. Three months later, Loran was drafted and left for basic training at Fort Riley.&nbsp; In 1953, he returned from the Korean War and went back to work at Dillons.&nbsp;

Loran attended television school in Kansas City, and then started working at Crupper’s TV &amp; Appliance as a TV repairman.&nbsp; He then went to work for Lawson Appliance for the next three and half years.&nbsp; In January of 1967, Loran and Joan opened their own business, Arnolds’s TV.&nbsp; They operated the business for 36 years, until they retired in May 2003.&nbsp;

Loran became a member of Trinity United Methodist Church in 1948.&nbsp;&nbsp; He was very active in the church and volunteered for several different events and activities over the years. &nbsp;While at Trinity, Loran and Joan helped start the Doers Class in 1957.&nbsp;

&nbsp;Loran is survived by:&nbsp; his wife of almost 71 years, Joan of Hutchinson; his three children, Dana (Pam) Arnold of Ozark, MO, Larry (Debbie) Arnold of Hutchinson, and Becki (Pat) Regan of Shawnee; seven grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and his sister, Eileen Galliart of Buhler.&nbsp;

Memorial service will be 2:00 p.m. &nbsp;Saturday, February 19, 2022, at Trinity United Methodist Church, 17th&nbsp;and Main, Hutchinson.&nbsp; Inurnment will follow in the church columbarium.&nbsp; Friends may sign his book from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Thursday and Friday at Elliott Mortuary. Wendy Guadalupe Contreras, 43, of Lyons, Kansas, passed away February 12, 2022 at Stormont Vail Hospital, Topeka. She was born January 9, 1979, Chihuahua, the daughter of Pedro Delgado and Maricela Contreras. 

Wendy graduated from Federal 18 High School in Chihuahua, Mexico. She has resided in Lyons for the past twelve years, formerly of Arlington, Texas. 

Wendy was a homemaker and housekeeper. She enjoyed FaceBook, Tiktok, cooking, arts and crafts, and most of all spending time with her family. Wendy loved to laugh and tell jokes. She is survived by her mother, Maricela Contreras of Chihuahua, Mexico; significate other, Agustin Salgado of Lyons; two sons, Oscar Castañeda and Brian Castañeda both of Ponca City, OK; daughter, Sophia Salgado of Lyons; brother, Manuel Oroczo of Chihuahua, Mexico; sister, Aracely Murga of Phoenix, AZ; and grandson, Ezekiel Castañeda. Wendy was preceded in death by her father, Pedro Delgado.

Leslie S. Widdoes, 58, passed away February 11, 2022, at Hutchinson Regional Medical Center.&nbsp; She was born May 19, 1963, in Goessel, and was raised in Hutchinson by her adopted parents Charlie and Patricia Green Widdoes.&nbsp; 

She was a graduate of Hutchinson High School. For over 20 years she had been a devoted carryout person and cashier for Dillons on 30th.&nbsp; She loved her job and chatting with her customers.&nbsp;Leslie enjoyed gambling, playing games on her tablet, lunch with her lady friends, holidays, and swimming with the Manche family, and holidays with the McKown family.

She is survived by a brother, Marlo Koehn, Walker, MO; sisters, Connie Wedel, Hiawatha, Donna (Steve) Schmidt, Hiawatha, KS, Lois (Thomas) Villegas, Hutchinson, and Anita (Michael) Beasley, Canton; her friends, Vicky and Tom Manche, Hutchinson, Tamara Manche, South Hutchinson, Tiffany Parks, Hutchinson, Tabitha Manche, Hutchinson, and Linda McKown, Hutchinson.

She was born April 12, 1946, in Wichita, Kansas, the daughter of Lionel and Dorothy (Milligan) Dilbeck. She attended Newton High School, graduating with the class of 1964.

On March 26, 1967, Betty was united in marriage to Gary Kirkpatrick. They were married for 37 years at the time of Gary’s passing in 2004.

She did catering with Budde Enterprises for the railroad for many years after working at McDonalds as a swing manager.

Betty enjoyed bowling, sewing, and supporting her children and grandchildren in all of their activities; from Gary’s demolition derbies, Richard’s wrestling, Leasa’s music, Korrine’s basketball and volleyball, Tyler’s football, basketball, and music, and John’s wrestling and baseball.

She always had a smile on her face and was willing to give anyone a chance. She will be deeply missed by all who knew her.

Betty is survived by her children, Gary (Liz) Kirkpatrick Jr., Richard (Theresa) Kirkpatrick, Leasa (David) Kirkpatrick; grandchildren, Kathleen, Ruthann (Chris), Tony, Korrine, Tyler, and John; great-grandchildren, Ellie, Christopher, and Eowyn; and sister, Wanda Joyce Hodges.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Gary Kirkpatrick; parents, Lionel and Dorothy Dilbeck; and brother, Howard Dilbeck.

Betty L. Kirkpatrick |1946-2022|

James Walter Lakey (Jim) was born on July 6th, 1936, to Kenneth and Esther (Dean) Lakey in Middleborough, Massachusetts. In his school days, Jim excelled as a student and Boy Scout, achieving the rank of Eagle before his high school graduation in 1953. Jim was accepted to Brown University to study physics, and was the pride and joy of his family, being the first to attend college. At Brown, Jim was awarded a full Naval ROTC scholarship, and earned a Bachelors of Arts in Physics. Upon graduation, he served three years in the Navy earning the rank of Lieutenant Junior Grade. He married his first wife Pamela (White-Stevens) whom he met at Brown and together they had his two sons, Timothy and Nathan. Divorced, Jim later married his second wife Marlies (Clausing) and later they had a daughter Krista. Their merged family included Marlies’ daughter, Lara.

A lifetime student, Jim matriculated at Gordon Divinity School where he received a Masters of Divinity degree and later was ordained as a Baptist minister.  He then went on to earn a Masters of Business Administration degree from Babson College.

By day, for some thirty years, Jim worked as a General Supervisor and Senior Engineer at leading technology companies of the time in Boston, including Sylvania, an early manufacturer of silicone-based computer chips, and subsequently 22 years at Polaroid, the innovators of instant camera photography. By night and on weekends however, Jim pursued his passion, as a gifted pastor and teacher spending several decades of his life ministering to, and teaching, those around him. He served many years in several churches as interim pastor, with his longest assignment at East Dover Baptist Church in Vermont, and later served as treasurer at the St John - Hudson Ministerial Alliance in Kansas for nearly three decades. As a teacher, he taught high school science, math, computer science, and physics, and later as an instructor at Barton Community college and EduKan where he taught philosophy, ethics, and religion.

Jim served his community by being active in social and political organizations. In the Boston area, he served as the District Commissioner for the Boy Scouts, as Republican Ward Chairman, and as a delegate to State Conventions. After moving to St John, Kansas, he served as President of the City Council and briefly as Mayor, Director of the Sandyland Shepherd’s Center for 27 years, and as anchor of the local news. Jim served the Kansas League of Cities, the Legislative Policy Committee, the Finance and Taxation Committee, as VP of the League of City Councilors, and as a member of the Independent Order of Odd Fellows. He also proudly sang as second tenor in the Prairie Crooners.

As husband, father and grandfather, Jim nourished his family physically, emotionally and spiritually. He ministered to all, and baptized his two sons and two of his four grandchildren. Jim touched the lives of many, will be fondly remembered and dearly missed.

Jim passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on February 12th, 2022. He is survived by his wife Marlies (Clausing), his children Tim; Nathan and his wife Cindy and their children Andrew, Ashley, and Abigail; by his daughter Krista; and stepdaughter Lara (Wolfenden), her daughter Noelle, and Lara’s husband Eric; and by Jim’s cats Fuzzy and Hudda.

Visitation will be on Tuesday, Feb. 15, 2022 from 1-7 P.M. at Minnis Chapel, St. John with family present from 5-7 P.M. In his school days, Jim excelled as a student and Boy Scout, achieving the rank of Eagle before his high school graduation in 1953. Jim was accepted to Brown University to study physics, and was the pride and joy of his family, being the first to attend college. At Brown, Jim was awarded a full Naval ROTC scholarship, and earned a Bachelors of Arts in Physics. Upon graduation, he served three years in the Navy earning the rank of Lieutenant Junior Grade. He married his first wife Pamela (White-Stevens) whom he met at Brown and together they had his two sons, Timothy and Nathan. Divorced, Jim later married his second wife Marlies (Clausing) and later they had a daughter Krista. Their merged family included Marlies’ daughter, Lara.A lifetime student, Jim matriculated at Gordon Divinity School where he received a Masters of Divinity degree and later was ordained as a Baptist minister. He then went on to earn a Masters of Business Administration degree from Babson College.By day, for some thirty years, Jim worked as a General Supervisor and Senior Engineer at leading technology companies of the time in Boston, including Sylvania, an early manufacturer of silicone-based computer chips, and subsequently 22 years at Polaroid, the innovators of instant camera photography. By night and on weekends however, Jim pursued his passion, as a gifted pastor and teacher spending several decades of his life ministering to, and teaching, those around him. He served many years in several churches as interim pastor, with his longest assignment at East Dover Baptist Church in Vermont, and later served as treasurer at the St John - Hudson Ministerial Alliance in Kansas for nearly three decades. As a teacher, he taught high school science, math, computer science, and physics, and later as an instructor at Barton Community college and EduKan where he taught philosophy, ethics, and religion.Jim served his community by being active in social and political organizations. In the Boston area, he served as the District Commissioner for the Boy Scouts, as Republican Ward Chairman, and as a delegate to State Conventions. After moving to St John, Kansas, he served as President of the City Council and briefly as Mayor, Director of the Sandyland Shepherd’s Center for 27 years, and as anchor of the local news. Jim served the Kansas League of Cities, the Legislative Policy Committee, the Finance and Taxation Committee, as VP of the League of City Councilors, and as a member of the Independent Order of Odd Fellows. He also proudly sang as second tenor in the Prairie Crooners.As husband, father and grandfather, Jim nourished his family physically, emotionally and spiritually. He ministered to all, and baptized his two sons and two of his four grandchildren. Jim touched the lives of many, will be fondly remembered and dearly missed.Jim passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on February 12th, 2022. He is survived by his wife Marlies (Clausing), his children Tim; Nathan and his wife Cindy and their children Andrew, Ashley, and Abigail; by his daughter Krista; and stepdaughter Lara (Wolfenden), her daughter Noelle, and Lara’s husband Eric; and by Jim’s cats Fuzzy and Hudda.Visitation will be on Tuesday, Feb. 15, 2022 from 1-7 P.M. at Minnis Chapel, St. John with family present from 5-7 P.M. Wendy Guadalupe Contreras, 43, of Lyons, Kansas, passed away February 12, 2022 at Stormont Vail Hospital, Topeka, Kansas. 

She was born January 9, 1979, Chihuahua, Mexico, the daughter of Pedro Delgado and Maricela Contreras. Wendy graduated from Federal 18 High School in Chihuahua, Mexico. She has resided in Lyons for the past twelve years, formerly of Arlington, Texas. Wendy was a homemaker and housekeeper. She enjoyed FaceBook, Tiktok, cooking, arts and crafts, and most of all spending time with her family. Wendy loved to laugh and tell jokes. 

She is survived by her mother, Maricela Contreras of Chihuahua, Mexico; significant other, Agustin Salgado of Lyons; two sons, Oscar Castañeda and Brian Castañeda both of Ponca City, OK; daughter, Sophia Salgado of Lyons; brother, Manuel Oroczo of Chihuahua, Mexico; sister, Aracely Murga of Phoenix, AZ; and grandson, Ezekiel Castañeda. Opal Darlene “Katie” Linn, 83, died Feb. 13, 2022 at her home in Abilene.

She was born July 10, 1938, in rural Waterloo, Kansas the daughter of James and Opal Nunnemaker Wallace.  A resident of Abilene since 2019, previously of Kingman and Waterloo, she was a former secretary for International Harvester.  She also played a vital role in the operation of the family farm.

Darlene attended the Kingman United Methodist Church; was a member of the EHU, was a former 4H leader, and volunteered for the Kingman County Election Board.

On Nov. 23, 1963, she married James F. Linn; he died Aug. 5, 2014.  Survivors include daughter Lisa Wright and her husband Bruce; brother David Wallace; sisters Dolly Gaede and Donna Younger; and grandsons Luke, Isaac, Nick and Benjamin Wright.  She was also preceded in death by her brothers Bill, Howard, Jack and John.

Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m., Saturday at the Kingman United Methodist Church.  The family will receive friends from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., Friday at the Livingston Funeral Home.  Burial will be in the Waterloo Cemetery.

Leo D. Bradford, 74, died February 11, 2022, at the Hospice House in Hutchinson, KS. He was born November 28, 1947 to Opal and Leonard Bradford in Hutchinson, KS.

Leo graduated from Fairfield High School in 1966. He retired from the State of Kansas, Hutchinson Correctional Facility after 22 years. The thing he was most proud of in his life, was his 22 years in the United States Army, Navy and Kansas National Guard. Leo was privileged to go on the Kansas Honor Flight to Washington, DC in September of 2021.

Leo is survived by his wife, Sherry Bosley-Bradford of Hutchinson; son Michael Bradford; daughter, Sarah Meinhardt; step-sons, Todd and Tyler Bosley; grandchildren, Darrel Baker, Branden and Dylan Meinhardt, and Christopher Bradford; step-grandchildren, KayLynn, Allyson, Berkley, and Lincoln Bosley.

Lenore Postier, 97, of Inman, passed away Thursday, February 3, 2022 at Sunshine Meadows Retirement Community in Buhler.&nbsp; She was born June 27, 1924 in Hutchinson, the daughter of William B. and Rose F. (Barna) Stansel.

She graduated from Hutchinson High School with the class of 1941.&nbsp; Lenore later graduated from Washburn University in Topeka with a bachelor’s degree in Accounting.

Lenore was united in marriage to Lynn C. Postier on June 4, 1950 in Hutchinson.&nbsp; He preceded her in death on August 27, 1994.

She was a devoted homemaker and farm wife.&nbsp; Lenore previously worked for the State Board of Health in Topeka for five years and was a former bookkeeper at Grace Hospital in Hutchinson for over 3 years.

Lenore was a member of St. Peter’s United Church of Christ in Inman, where she was active in the women’s fellowship program.&nbsp; Lenore was a member of Hearthstone EHU, Phidelis – Bluebird Club in Inman, and McPherson China Highlights Club.&nbsp; She was an avid China painter.

She is survived by her son, Lowel (Jackie) Postier of Inman; and four grandchildren, Lori (Matt) Elwonger, Greg Postier, Jesse Postier, and Amanda Postier.&nbsp;

Lenore was preceded in death by her husband; parents; son, Loren (Carlene) Postier; two brothers, Harrison (Bea) Stansel and John (Ona) Stansel; and sister, Louise (Kenneth) Mendenhall.

Ronald D. “Dean” Lightner, 80, passed away Friday, February 11,
2022 at Hutchinson Regional Medical Center, Hutchinson.

He was born January 26, 1942 in Nevada, MO, the son of Sheldon
and Alice (Whithorn) Lightner.&nbsp; On October
12, 1974 he married Vickie Black in Hutchinson. &nbsp;Dean served in the United States Marine Corps
and was honorably discharged.&nbsp; He worked
for KP&amp;L and retired early in 1996.&nbsp;
Dean was an avid bowler.&nbsp; He also
loved fishing and enjoyed going to the casino with Vickie.&nbsp; He also loved spending time with his kids,
grandkids, nieces and nephews.&nbsp; 

He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Ted Lightner
and a brother, Lloyd Lightner.

Dean is survived by his loving wife, Vickie Lightner; two
sons, Michael D. Lightner and Matthew D. Lightner; one sister, Laura Schuff; five
grandchildren, Chris Lightner, Baylee DeWitt, Kincaid Lightner, Killian
Lightner; and Grace Lightner; three great grandchildren; and numerous nieces
and nephews.

Frances graduated from Wyandotte High School in 1945 and attended Kansas City Community College and the University of Kansas, where she majored in Business Administration. In addition to being a homemaker, Frances worked as an Administrative Assistant at American Royal for 25 years, and Morton Interiors. She enjoyed playing Bridge and volunteering at various community organizations.

Frances was a member of First Congregational Church of Hutchinson, Beta Sigma Phi sorority, and past member of PEO.

On May 14, 1948, she married Cliff Ashby, in Kansas City. He died March 16, 1997.

Frances is survived by: niece, Beverly DeDecker and husband Pete; nephew, Michael Lux; three great-nieces; one great-nephew; and four great-great-nieces.

She was preceded in death by: her parents; sister, Lucille Cordon; niece, Pamela Lux; and nephew, Michael Cordon.

Chester L. Schmidt, 91, of Galva, passed away Saturday, February 12, 2022 at The Cedars in McPherson.&nbsp; He was born April 4, 1930, in rural Galva, the son of David D. and Dena (Nightingale) Schmidt.

Chester was a lifelong farmer and stockman.&nbsp; He owned and operated Schmidt Bros. House Moving for over 20 years.&nbsp; In later years he worked for MCDS of McPherson as a supervisor.&nbsp; During his retirement, Chester’s favorite pastime was his daily visits to the coffee shops in Galva.

Chester was a member of First Mennonite Church of McPherson.

He was united in marriage to Florene Dee Koehn on January 13, 1952 in Galva.&nbsp; She survives of the home. Chester and Florene recently celebrated 70 years of marriage.&nbsp; In their later years they had the joy of raising two grandsons, Nicholas and Ryan Schmidt.

Also surviving is his daughter, Jane (James) Boeckner of Hiawatha, KS; six grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; and brothers, Kermit Schmidt, McPherson, Howard (Judy) Schmidt, Galva, and Norman Schmidt, Moundridge.

Chester was preceded in death by his parents; son, Stephen Schmidt; five sisters; and four brothers.

Philip Elvin Thompson, 88, died February 8, 2022, at Diversicare of Hutchinson.&nbsp; He was born June 13, 1933, in Garfield, KS, to Merle Edward and Doris Ersuella (Bishop) Thompson.

Philip graduated from Sterling High School in 1951.&nbsp; He worked as a realtor for 16 years, Cessna nine years, and in banking as a data processor for 21 years.&nbsp; Philip was a huge KU Jayhawk fan, and was known for wearing cowboy hats and western shirts.

Philip is survived by:&nbsp; children, Pamala Stansel (Lynn), Mitchell Thompson, Donald Thompson (Natalie), and Bradley Thompson (Nancy); sisters, Twila Price and Eva Huntsman; and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by:&nbsp; his parents; son, Lee Thompson; sister, Leah Currie; and brother, Neil Thompson.

Graveside service will be 10:00 a.m. Saturday, February 19, 2022, at Memorial Park Cemetery, 5905 West 4th Ave, Hutchinson, with The Reverend Kent H. Little officiating.&nbsp; Friends may sign his book from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Monday through Friday at Elliott Mortuary. The casket will remain closed.

Lowell (Red) Meier entered the kingdom of heaven&nbsp;on Saturday, February 12,2022&nbsp;at Ellinwood Hospital.&nbsp; The son of Claus and Marie Scheuerman Meier born on the family farm near Bison, Kansas, March 26, 1932.&nbsp; Red entered the Army&nbsp;on 1952, a veteran of the Korean War and was Honorably Discharged in 1957.&nbsp; He worked for&nbsp;Northern&nbsp;Natural&nbsp;Gas (Enron) for 44 years.

On July 6, 1957 he married&nbsp;Carolin (Sue) Meier&nbsp;in&nbsp;Bushton, Kansas. Sue entered heavens gates&nbsp;February 2018.&nbsp; Red and Sue made their home in the Claflin area&nbsp;and were blessed&nbsp;with four children: Ricky, Christy, Cheryl and Byron. &nbsp;Red is survived by grandchildren&nbsp;Byron (Betsy) Landis, Courtney (Samantha) Landis, Christopher (Morgan) Isern, CayLee Isern and &nbsp;Cody (Anna) Isern.&nbsp; Great grandsons: Ni’Shaune, Koas’Tyne and A’lec Landis and Theodore Landis.&nbsp;Red was preceded in death&nbsp;of&nbsp;his two sons Ricky and Byron, sisters MaryLeen&nbsp;Brown,&nbsp;Joann Wunder and Wanda Kayartz. &nbsp;Additional survivors include numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.&nbsp; Red was an avid sports fan, attending games throughout the region.

Marcus Ray Collins, 8, passed away Friday, February 11, 2022 at Medicine Lodge Memorial Hospital. He was born on May 17, 2013 in Kansas City, Missouri. Marcus was a 2nd Grader at Medicine Lodge Grade School. He was a member of Faith Baptist Church in Attica. Marcus enjoyed Sponge Bob and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, being in nature and spending time playing with sticks, swimming, reading, puzzles, organizing items and wearing hats. He is survived by his parents Dickey and Maggie Collins; siblings, Linda Garcia, Susan Wren, Allen Collins, Brittney Collins, Hope (Ruben) Gonzalez, Kari (Shawn) Solie, Alejandra Collins, Teresa Collins and Michael Collins; grandmother, Juanita Baty; and grandparents, Joe (Dominga) Banda; . Marcus is preceded in death by his grandfather, Allen Gordon. Visitation will be Monday, February 14, 2022 from 1:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m. at Larrison Funeral Home, 120 E. Lincoln, Medicine Lodge.
