Barbara N. (Bowden) King, age 85 passed away on Oct. 16, 2022 at her home.&nbsp; She was born on Jan. 9, 1937 in rural Stafford Co., the daughter of Hollis G. and Lois Iona (Leatherman) Bowden.&nbsp; 

She retired as a registered nurse, working from 1960-2002.&nbsp; She attended school at Antrim, Emerson, Byers, KUMC and Mercy School of Nursing. She attended Haysville Christian Church and was a past member of Antrim United Methodist Church and Air Con Campers.&nbsp; 

Survivors include a son, Dale Lewis (Su) Posey, Lutz, FL; a daughter, Brenda Dee (Brad) Way, Haysville; two grandchildren, 1 great grandchild and one on the way; 3 step grandchildren and 3 step great grandchildren.&nbsp; She was preceded in death by both parents and a brother, Byron Bowden.

Visitation will be on Thursday, Oct. 27, 2022 from 1-7 P.M., at Minnis Chapel, St. John, with family present from 5-7 P.M. Morris "MOE" Eugene Mills passed away Saturday October 22, 2022 at Wesley Medical Center, Wichita, surrounded by his family. Morris was born in Russell, on February 12, 1952, the son of Mildred (McCord) Mills and Melvin Mills.

Morris graduated from Russell High School in 1970 and attended Salina Area Vocational Technical College for Auto Body Repair. Morris met the love of his life while in college and was united in marriage to Marsha Titus 8 months later on July 31 st , 1971, and were able to share 51 loving years together.

Morris and Marsha established their home in McPherson. He was a member of the Presbyterian Church, McPherson, where he served as an Elder.

Morris worked as a carpenter building homes for Harold Schlender. He then worked at Turtle Top, where he painted fancy designs for van conversions. He later became ASE certified in Mechanics. Morris brought his dream of business ownership to reality and SureStart Automotive was built at 2150 E 1 st street in McPherson. He then transitioned to fabricating and designing airplane tanker trucks for Integrity Refuelers. With the devastation of 9/11 the airplane industry slowed, and Morris found himself at age 50 starting over. Morris knew that he wanted to continue to serve his community and support his family. It was then decided he would reopen his mechanics shop with a revamped name of Moe’s Muffler and Brake. He was given the opportunity to sell his business and spend his days on the golf course where he served as Golf Course Superintendent at Rolling Acres Golf Club until 2021 when he officially retired.

Morris and Marsha owned several homes throughout the years, in 1997 they built their dream home right next to Rolling Acres where he could ride his golf cart across the yard to enjoy his retirement days with Marsha and Callie their beloved dog.

Moe enjoyed bowling, restoring antique vehicles, woodworking projects and golf, spending every free moment he had on the golf course, but most of all he enjoyed spending time with his family.

Morris and Marsha had 3 beautiful daughters Teresa Bonham (Tim) of Louisburg, Tamara Wilson (Shawn) of Lyons, Tonya Mills (Derric Thompson), of Salina. Grandchildren: Kylee Webb, Jacob Bonham, Gabriel Bonham, Kynlee Bonham, Stripes Wilson, Shane Wilson, Skylar Mills, Stasia Bard, Shado Bard, Shaedyn Maley, Shawntay Crawford, and Mariah Daniels and 6 Great Grandchildren. Morris was preceded in death by his parents and brother Marvin Mills.

Elwood Koehn, 88, of Moundridge, passed away Friday, October 21, 2022 at Moundridge Manor. He was born October 17, 1934 in rural Canton, the son of Albert E. and Esther (Johnson) Koehn. Elwood attended Garfield School and was a member of United Center Church of God in Christ, Mennonite in rural Galva. He was united in marriage to Maxine Dyck on October 4, 1957 in Hesston. She preceded him in death on November 8, 2017. Elwood was lifelong farmer and stockman, retiring in 2014. He is survived by his daughters, Sharon (Donald) Unruh of Galva, Linda (Steven) Unruh of Knippa, TX, and Sondra (Phillip) Giesbrecht of Macon, MS; son, Lavern (Cindy) Koehn of Canton; eleven grandchildren; sixteen great-grandchildren; and sister, Elfrieda Becker of Moundridge. Rachel Lee Johnson, 80, of McPherson, Kansas, passed away at 12:16 p.m., Tuesday, October 18th, 2022 at Wesley Medical Center, Wichita, Kansas. Rachel was born in McPherson, Kansas on November 16, 1941, a daughter of Bessie Arlene (Anderson) and Thomas Samuel Miller. Through the years Rachel was a homemaker, farmers wife and had a daycare business out of her home, worked for A&amp;W as a carhop where she met her husband Verle, was a nurses aide at McPherson Hospital, she then worked at the McPherson County Courthouse as a Payroll Clerk for 33 years until she retired. She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in McPherson. Rachel was known for her servant heart for others and her favorite place to be was anywhere surrounded by her friends and family. She always had great stories to share and was always up for a game of cards or dominoes. She enjoyed watching all sports and could be found in the kitchen baking her famous pies and cakes. If she wasn’t covered in flour baking in the kitchen, she was knee deep in thread sewing quilts. She loved seeing things grow in her garden and canning what she grew. No matter if she was canning or baking, she loved sharing what she made with others. Wherever Rachel was, Bella was right by her side and was her four-legged companion for 10 years. Rachel Lee Miller was united in marriage to Verle I. Johnson on Aug. 2, 1959 in Roxbury, Kansas. The young couple established their first home together in McPherson. This union was blessed with the birth of two children a son and a daughter, Verle Kevin Johnson and Kristie Lee Johnson. Verle and Rachel made many memories during their 56 years of marriage, 45 of those years on the farm raising cattle, chickens, donkeys and much more. Two of their favorite activities to do together on the farm were deer hunting and wheat harvest. While Verle was spending hours on the combine cutting wheat, Rachel would be in the kitchen preparing meals to take to the field. She is survived by her children, Kevin Johnson and his wife Rhonda, of Dayton, Ohio and Kristie Torgerson and her husband Brennan, of Hutchinson; her brother Ken Miller, of Salina. She is also survived by 4 grandchildren, Amelia(Chris) Fisher, Angela (Kaleb) Sortman, Trevor (Helen) Torgerson and Taryn Torgerson. One great grandchild, Ella Grace Torgerson with two on the way. Rachel was preceded in death by her parents; her sisters, Shirley Unruh and Opal Specker and her two brothers, Robert Tom Miller and Richard K. Miller. Dora was a homemaker Dora Elizabeth Baldwin was united in marriage to James Loren Taylor on November 13, 1949 at Las Vegas, Nevada. Loren died on December 22, 2020. She is survived by her children, Mary Ann Hanna and her husband Gregg, of McPherson, and James JW Taylor and his wife Tracey, of Agura Hills, California; her sisters, Susan Johnson and her husband Bill, of Arizona and Virginia, of California; her brother, Clyde Baldwin and his wife Sadie, of Lucedale, Mississippi; sister Virginia, of California; She is also survived by five grandchildren, Grace Sivley, Robert Burke, Derek Taylor, Tiffany Taylor, Jessica Taylor and her ten great-grandchildren. Anita Joan Cook, 81, passed away October 14, 2022, at Pleasant View Home, Inman.&nbsp; She was born October 9, 1941, in Hutchinson, the daughter of Linard and Pauline Sprouse Cook.&nbsp; She was a graduate of Hutchinson High School.&nbsp; She had worked for J &amp; J Drainage, retiring in 1999. Anita had attended Penial Nazarene Church and later New Life Church of the Nazarene. &nbsp;She enjoyed cake decorating, sewing, and canning.

On December 31, 1960, she married Lawrence D. Forney.&nbsp; They later divorced. On May 24, 1984, she married Donald Cook in Hutchinson.&nbsp; He passed away on February 7, 2021.

Survivors include her children, Rhonda Rodriquez, Hutchinson, Harry Forney, Hutchinson, Matt (Bobbie) Forney, Andover, and Melody Forney, Hutchinson; stepchildren, Candy Bell, Hutchinson, Jim (Christie) Cook, Hutchinson, Don Cook, Jr., Hutchinson, and April (Mike) Root, Hutchinson; sister Pamela Cook, Hutchinson; 7 grandchildren; 15 great grandchildren; and numerous step grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Sylvia I. Miller, 97, passed away October 11, 2022, at Mennonite Friendship Communities.&nbsp; She was born October 5, 1925, in Yoder, the daughter of Enos and Lydiann Bontrager Yoder.&nbsp; A resident of the Yoder and Hutchinson area all of her life, she was a member of The Father’s House, where she was actively involved.&nbsp; She had worked at Western Foods, until retirement and then did light housekeeping for various people.

On October 6, 1946, she married Wilmer D. Miller in Yoder.&nbsp; He passed away January 18, 2009.

Miller, 97, passed away October 11, 2022, at Mennonite Friendship Communities.&nbsp; She was born October 5, 1925, in Yoder, the daughter of Enos and Lydiann Bontrager Yoder.&nbsp; A resident of the Yoder and Hutchinson area all of her life, she was a member of The Father’s House, where she was actively involved.&nbsp; She had worked at Western Foods, until retirement and then did light housekeeping for various people.On October 6, 1946, she married Wilmer D. Donna Marie Wesley, 60, passed away October 16, 2022, in Hutchinson, Kansas. She was born July 20, 1962. 

Donna  loved to go camping with her husband, Charles and her boys, to M&amp;M Point in Cheney Lake, going miniature golfing, playing Yahtzee, Farkle and Canasta. 

She loved taking care of her residents at her job, her children and her family. Donna was always family oriented and focused. 

She is survived by her husband, Charles, of 39 years; sons, Michael and Randy Wesley; sister, Dolores Hemphill and grandchildren, Xavier and Owen Wesley, Serena and Hunter. Donna is preceded in death by her brother, Jeff Hardin and mother, Barbara Henry.

Jeane Dyer Hilb, 101, passed away peacefully on October 14, 2022 at Longhorn Village, in Austin, TX.&nbsp;&nbsp; She was born April 8, 1921 in Hutchinson, to Howard and Clara Reiner Dyer.

Jeane graduated from Hutchinson Community College and later attended the University of Southern California where she received her undergraduate degree.&nbsp; She did some post- graduate work at Radcliffe.&nbsp; &nbsp;She was a professional model, television personality and charitable organizer for education and women.&nbsp; She was the Founding President of the College of the Desert Auxiliary Foundation, Board Member of the Palm Springs Friends of Philharmonic, Founder of the Ballet Guild of the Desert, and a world traveler.&nbsp; In 1979, she married Justin Hilb in California.&nbsp; &nbsp; She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Justin; daughter, Jeane “Jadey” Swirles MacClyment; and brother, Richard Dyer.

Jeane is survived by her three grandchildren, Crosby B. Banks, Logan J. MacClyment and Neal H. MacClyment; and two great grandchildren, Dylan J. MacPhie and Case A. Evelyn was a graduate of Sterling High School, Sterling.&nbsp; She was employed in the Housekeeping Department at Hutchinson Regional Medical Center, formerly Hutchinson Hospital Corporation, retiring with many years of service.

Evelyn was a ‘professional and selfless’ volunteer.&nbsp; She spent many hours volunteering for various organizations because of the need to share her servant’s heart and caring personality with others.&nbsp; Evelyn enjoyed her cats and dogs, and feeding the birds and squirrels that visited her yard.&nbsp; She was known to be ornery, loud, and stubborn, but never in a mean-spirited way.

Roberta “Ruth” Clark was born on April 26, 1939, in Delavan. She is the daughter of Harry and Francis (Filkin) Yakle. She graduated from Wilsey High School in 1956 and went on to study at Emporia State University. She was united in marriage to Robert Clark on June 01, 2002, in Herington.

Ruth worked as a proofreader for the Herington Newspaper. She was also a paraprofessional in the Hope School District. Ruth was a very active and strong member in her church and was on the Board of the Herington Senior Center for twenty years. In her free time, Ruth loved to cross stitch, and would custom make birthday cards for all her grandchildren and great grandchildren.

She was born November 24, 1949, in Rapid City, South Dakota, the daughter of Virgil and Charlotte Watkins.

She was a 1967 graduate of Marquette High School.

On June 10, 1967, Dianne was united in marriage to Bradley Lowell Surface in Garnett. He preceded her in death in 2006.

On July 5, 2008, Dianne was united in marriage to James Wesley Deckard. He survives.

Dianne loved quilt-making, sewing, spending time with family and her two loving dogs.

Other survivors include her two sons, Michael Surface and wife, Wendy (Swisher), of Topeka, KS and Greg Surface and wife, Victoria (Goss), of Marquette, KS; two-stepsons, Jeremy Deckard and wife, Amy (Hammerschmidt), of Topeka, KS and Chad Deckard and wife, Tere (Bertrand), of Assaria, KS; 13 grandchildren; one great-grandchild; one nephew, Brandon Watkins; and one sister, Linda Bowen.

Leon Joseph Moeder, 74, died October 19, 2022, at Wesley Medical Center, Wichita.&nbsp; He was born February 29, 1948, the second child of Engelbert “Bert” and Rita (Sulzman) Moeder.

Leon graduated from Plainville High School and received his bachelor’s degree from Fort Hays State University, in 1972. While a student at Fort Hays State University, he was a member of the rodeo club, where Leon became a bull rider. &nbsp;In May 1974, he started his career as an auctioneer and real estate broker.&nbsp; Leon became CEO and owner of Davenport Auction &amp; Realty, Inc., in 1986.&nbsp; In his almost 50-year auctioneer career, Leon proudly helped with over 3,000 auctions ranging from commercial and personal property to diamonds. &nbsp;Most recently, he was a substitute teacher for USD 308.&nbsp; With his humor and quick wit, Leon quickly gained the respect of his students and loved helping to make a difference in their lives.

Leon enjoyed grilling for his family, with steak as his specialty.&nbsp; Listening to sports commentaries and watching his beloved Kansas City Chiefs, in particular Patrick Mahomes, were some of his favorite pastimes. &nbsp;&nbsp;Leon was a member of St. Teresa Catholic Church, Hutchinson.

Leon held a special bond with his only grandchild, Brailey.&nbsp; From the moment she was born, Leon was a proud grandpa and one of her biggest cheerleaders.&nbsp; When Brailey had school activities, whether it was a sporting or musical event, he strived to be in attendance.&nbsp; &nbsp;Leon was a one-of-a-kind dad, grandpa, brother, uncle, friend, cowboy, auctioneer, and mentor.&nbsp; There will never be another Leon Moeder!

Tommy was a graduate of Fairfield High School, Langdon, and Garden City Community College, Garden City.

Ingaby Bell Kelley, 91, passed away surrounded by her family on Friday, October 14, 2022 in Wichita, Kansas.&nbsp; She was born in Milo, Missouri to James Loyd Shafer and Bertha Ellen (Richty) Shafer.&nbsp; She was raised and attended various schools in the surrounding area with her brothers and sisters.&nbsp; The family has many stories of their mischiefs which always brought a smile to their faces.&nbsp; Often their trips to town were on the families flatbed truck.&nbsp; She loved playing basketball and sports at school.

She moved with her parents and family to El Dorado, Kansas. On the coldest day of the year 1947 she gave birth to her son Charles Dixon.&nbsp; They moved to Eureka, Kansas and lived where her daughter Coleen was born in 1956.&nbsp; The family moved to Wichita then where she has resided ever since. She has left her family with so many wonderful memories as a wonderful wife, mom, grandmother, sister, daughter and friend. Her love of sports and following her children and grandchildren's games of soccer, baseball, basketball, dance, music and so much more.&nbsp; A ride in her daughter's Volkswagen Beetle was her delight and love. Time spent with her family was her greatest joy.

Delle was born in Georgetown, Texas in 1946 to Emily Gervis Enochs and John Hester Davis. Delle was a lifelong resident of Houston, Texas, where she enjoyed all the arts the city of Houston had to offer.&nbsp;&nbsp;After moving to Wichita, Kansas seven years ago, she diligently continued to enjoy Final (and Now First) Friday, Wichita Art Museum, and Botanica.&nbsp;&nbsp;She graduated from Stephen F. Austin State University.&nbsp;&nbsp;She spearheaded a revolutionary idea to start the country's first spinal cord injury apartments, Independent Lifestyles.&nbsp;&nbsp;Among her favorite jobs were Westminster Manor and School for the blind in Austin, and The Forum and Amazing Place in Houston.

Delle is preceded in death by her parents, Hester and Gervis Davis, her cousin, Gervis Clausel, and her daughter, Marie Schroff, and most importantly, the love of her life, John Nagle. She is survived by her devoted daughter, Stephanie Elise Miller and co-caregiver Santos Bernal, her elder brother, John Davis (Rosemary), and their children, Dawn Scott (Jim), and Arthur Davis, her younger brother Charles Davis (Joni Matthews), and their son Colin Chavez (Ashley).&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;

James Earl Blair (Jimmy), passed away on October 14, 2022, at the age of 82 in Newton, at the Kansas Christian Home.

Jimmy was born on August 28, 1940, in Enid, Oklahoma.

He is survived by his brother Bill Blair, sister Roberta O’Dell, his niece Kathie Cook, his cousin Jerry Magers and his loving partner of 38 years Shirley Herbison, daughter Teresa Blair, their adopted children Kathy Frazier, Steve Herbison, April Herbison, Ariana Herbison, Corbin Herbison, Donald Herbison, and Mathew Herbison. He is predeceased by his son Jimmy Blair, his brother Nathanial Blair, mother Thelma Blair, and father Robert (Bob) Blair.

He became a foster parent with Shirley during which time they fostered, counseled, and loved 168 foster children. Jimmy was a truck driver and spent many years working for the Full Vision Factory in Newton, Kansas. Jimmy loved to fish, garden, and do handy work around the house. He had a tremendous skill for painting, which he practiced until he physically was unable to. However, his strongest love and joy and how he wanted to be remembered, was his family.

The cremation and for Jimmy will be done at Petersen’s Funeral Home in Newton.

Christine “Joan” Strano, 78, died unexpectedly at her home on October 17, 2022.&nbsp; She was born October 2, 1944, in Wichita, to William Clark and Olive Aileen (Kissick) Anderson.

Joan graduated from Hutchinson High School in 1962, and Southwestern College, Winfield, in 1966, earning her bachelor’s degree. &nbsp;

While at Southwestern College, Joan met a young man from Punxsutawney, PA, Richard Francis “Dick” Strano. They were married June 4, 1966, in South Hutchinson.&nbsp; Together, they raised two daughters, and eventually, their family grew to include two wonderful sons-in-law and seven precious grandchildren.&nbsp;&nbsp; Dick died March 6, 2018, after he and Joan shared nearly 52 years of marriage.

Joan was a natural born teacher.&nbsp; Throughout her career, Joan taught health/physical education and science in Osborne USD 392 and Hutchinson USD 308.&nbsp; Most recently, she was a substitute teacher for Buhler USD 313.&nbsp; In her free time, she enjoyed being outdoors; Joan was an outstanding gardener, and had a talent for growing amazing flowers. She also enjoyed decorating, especially at Christmas. Joans’ greatest joy and calling though was that of being a mom and grandma; she loved her daughters and grandchildren unconditionally.&nbsp; She would do anything for them. Joan attended Grace Bible Church, Hutchinson.&nbsp;

Joan is survived by:&nbsp; daughters, Angie White (Eric) of Hutchinson, and Amy Dye (Derek) of Lawrence; grandchildren, Ethan, Addi, Aidyn and Eli White, and Josie, Emme, and Harper Dye; brother, Jeff Anderson (Rogene) of Lawrence; sisters, Jan Dwyer and Jill Foss of Hutchinson; a sister-in-law, Tamra Strano of Baytown, TX; and her faithful four-legged companions, dogs, Berki and Berne and cats, Rush and Rusty.

Bill Dean Williams, 76, of McPherson, KS and formerly of Downs, KS, passed away peacefully on Monday, October 17, 2022, at Overland Park Regional Medical Center (Overland Park, KS).&nbsp; He worked as a welder at Kent Manufacturing in Tipton, KS prior to farming.&nbsp;

Bill was born on December 3, 1945, in Beloit, KS, the son of Dean Harrison and Ida Ann (Leonhart) Williams.&nbsp; He graduated from Downs High School in 1962.&nbsp; On October 15, 1967, Bill was united in marriage to Carol L. VanWey in Smith Center, KS.&nbsp; Three children were born to this union, Candee, Dana, and Kyle.

In Bill’s younger years, he enjoyed fishing and hunting. He was an avid KC Chiefs, KC Royals, and KU Jayhawks fan.&nbsp; Bill’s personality was very easy going, and he thoroughly enjoyed giving everyone a hard time.

He is survived by: three children, Candee Nightingale (Larry), Dana Dossett (Monte), and Kyle Williams (Jennifer), all of McPherson, KS; 12 grandchildren, Nicole, Kelsey, Mayce, Rachel, Hannah, Noah, Alexandra, Tate, Hope, Clara, Surie, and Calypso; eight great-grandchildren; a sister, Deanna White of McPherson, KS; former wife, Carol Madron of McPherson, KS; and many extended family and friends.

A graveside service will be held in Downs Cemetery (Downs, KS) at a later date.

Everett "Doyle" Bachelder passed away on Friday, October 14th, 2022 in Bel Aire, Kansas. He was born in Valley Center, Kansas to Everett Leo Bachelder and Mildred Mae (Lavender) Bachelder. A lifelong resident of Valley Center he graduated from VCHS in 1949. After graduation, he joined the U.S. Navy during the Korean War and then upon his return was a letter carrier for the USPS until retirement.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his sister Donna Ash, and brothers William "Bill" Bachelder and Lawrence Bachelder.

Linda Kay (McQueen) Rhodes, 81, died October 18, 2022, at Hospice House, Hutchinson.&nbsp; She was born February 3, 1941, in Lewiston, ME, to Albert James and Lorene Eleanor (Shinall) Jenkins.

Linda’s father was in management with the J. C. Penney Co.&nbsp; He was transferred many times with the company.&nbsp; During Linda’s childhood, the family lived in Lewiston, ME, Rochester, NY, Burlington, VT, Danville, IL, Omaha, NE, Brookfield, MO, and Hutchinson. This is probably when Linda acquired the love of travel.

Linda graduated from Hutchinson High School in 1959.&nbsp; She attended Hutchinson Community College for one year, then married Edward (Eddie) McQueen in 1960.&nbsp; They had two sons, Jeffery Scott in 1961, and Michael Bryon in 1963.&nbsp; Linda, Ed, and the boys spent two years in Vinita, OK, from 1968-1970, where Ed was a Ben Franklin store manager/owner.&nbsp; The family then returned to Hutchinson, where they resided for the rest of Linda’s life.

In 1975, after the boys were older, Linda earned an associates degree from Hutchinson Community College.&nbsp; In 1978, she commuted to Sterling College, earning a Bachelor’s Degree in Education.&nbsp; From 1979 until 1982, Linda worked in the Basic Education Department at the Kansas State Industrial Reformatory.&nbsp; She then taught special education at Hutchinson High school, retiring in 1998.

Ed McQueen, her husband of 42 years, died suddenly in 2002.&nbsp; Linda spent the next several years traveling to Europe, South American and Israel.&nbsp; She participated in several short-term mission trips to Nagaland, India, The Dominican Republic, Peru, Chile, Mexico, and New York City.

In 2008, she married the Reverend Dr. Gordon Rhodes.&nbsp; Together, they traveled, enjoyed family and friends, and shared in eight interim pastorate ministries in churches throughout Kansas.

Linda is survived by:&nbsp; her husband, Gordon; sons, Jeff McQueen (Betsy) of Kansas City, MO, Mike McQueen (Terri) of Hutchinson; brother, Buzz Jenkins of McKinney, TX; and four delightful grandchildren, who filled her life with fun and love, Brett, Erin, Max, and Lillie.

Funeral service will be 11:00 a.m. Monday, October 24, 2022, at First Baptist Church, 800 N. Main, Hutchinson, with Pastor Rishawn Austin officiating.&nbsp; Graveside service will follow at 1:30 p.m. at Memorial Park Cemetery, Hutchinson.&nbsp; Friends may call from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Saturday, and 1:00 to 8:00 p.m. Sunday, with the family present from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Sunday at Elliott Mortuary.
