Rubye Murphy |1922-2023|

Rubye Murphy, 100, died January 13, 2023, at Hester Care Center, Hutchinson. She was born October 28, 1922, in Hutchinson, to Henry B. and Mary (LetKeman) Ediger.

She was a 1940 graduate of Hutchinson High School and attended Hutchinson Community Junior College. Rubye was a lifetime resident of Reno County.

She was a homemaker. Rubye was employed at USD 308, Good Samaritan Center, and worked five years at the Civil Service Commission, Washington, DC.

Rubye was a member of RSVP, delivered Meals on Wheels, volunteered at Good Samaritan Village, and Dillon Living Center. She was a member of First Baptist Church, Hutchinson.

Rubye loved her family and enjoyed time spent with them. Her family fondly remembers her wonderful sense of humor, big smile, having fun, and a lot of laughter. Rubye had a passion for music. She played the piano and sang in the church choir. Rubye was active throughout her life. This was shown by her love of the outdoors. She found joy in working in her yard and tending her flower beds.

On December 1, 1944, Rubye married Willard Murphy at First Baptist Church, Hutchinson. They shared over 61 years of marriage, prior to his death on February 17, 2006.

Rubye is survived by: son, Doug (Pat) Murphy of Bedford, TX; daughters, Diane Wilhite of Emporia, KS, and Donna (Dick) Peavy of Avon Park, FL; and grandsons, Adam and Ryan Murphy, and Jacob and Joshua Jantz.

She was preceded in death by: her parents; husband; son-in-law, Mike Wilhite; sister, Ella Carrier; and brother, Ed Ediger.

Cremation has taken place. A private family memorial service will be held at a later date.
