Geraldine Marie Riley, 91, of Inman, Kansas, passed away Monday, May 22, 2023 at Pleasant View Home in Inman. She was born November 12, 1931 in Medicine Hat, Alberta, Canada, the daughter of Glenn Linfred and Edith Lucille (Coulter) Current.

She graduated from Arkansas City High School in Arkansas City, Kansas with the class of 1950. Geraldine later graduated from the William Newton Memorial Hospital School of Nursing in 1951.

Geraldine was united in marriage to Chester Arnold “Chet” Riley on July 21, 1952 in Braman, Oklahoma. He preceded her in death on October 29, 1960.

She worked many years helping others as a CMA/CNA for Presbyterian Manor in Arkansas City. Geraldine later moved to Inman where she worked at Pleasant View Home until her retirement.

Geraldine attended Inman Mennonite Church. She was an avid Chiefs and KU basketball fan. Above all, she loved spending time with her friends and family, and helping others.

She is survived by her son, Mark (Jacci) Riley of Inman; daughter, Cheryl Riley of Blue Springs, MO; two grandchildren, Michelle (Cory) Neufeld of Inman, and Erin Riley of Kansas City, KS; and three great-grandchildren, Avery, Harper and Dakota Neufeld.

Geraldine was preceded in death by her parents; and brother, Melvin Current.

Mary Jane Mollett, 96, passed away peacefully May 14, 2023, at Hester Care Center, Hutchinson. &nbsp;She was born October 11, 1926, in St. Joseph, Missouri, to John R. and Kathryn (Keefer) Marts.

Mary Jane graduated from Hutchinson High School and attended Lindenwood College, St. Charles, Missouri, and Kansas State University. &nbsp;She was a homemaker and a member of First Presbyterian Church, Hutchinson. &nbsp;

Mary Jane exemplified humble grace, kindness, and was a devoted listener. &nbsp; She had a way of making those around her feel better, even during the valleys of life. &nbsp;She loved her faith, family and friends. Throughout her years at Wesley Towers, Mary Jane enjoyed much valued friendships with residents and members of the staff which greatly enriched her life.&nbsp;

On December 28, 1946, she married Clarence M. Mollett, in Hutchinson. &nbsp;They shared 67 years of marriage prior to his death on September 29, 2013.

Mary Jane is survived by: &nbsp; Children: Michael Mollett, John Mollett (Kathy), Kathy Small (Bill), &nbsp;and Jane Whitlow (Bill); Grandchildren: Carolyn Humpherson (James), Patrick Mollett (Robert Frick), Ben Whitlow (Gresa Sylejmani), Sam Small, &nbsp;Jon Whitlow, and Louis Mollett; Great-grandchildren: Oscar and Finley Humpherson.&nbsp;

Doris I. Thomas, 94, died May 21, 2023, at Hospice House, Hutchinson. She was born July 2, 1928, in Muskogee, Oklahoma, to Lloyd and Opal (Newburn) Warner.

Doris was a graduate of Hutchinson High School. She worked for Cessna as a cost accountant. Doris was a member of First Congregational Church in Hutchinson, where she was a part of the Ladies Fellowship. She enjoyed doing needle point, quilting, reading, and baking. Most of all, Doris loved her children and grandchildren and spending time with them.

On May 1, 1947, she married Wendall John Thomas, in Hutchinson. They shared 58 years of marriage before his passing on September 23, 2005.

Doris is survived by: her son, Randy Thomas (Jenny), Springfield, Missouri; daughter, Jona Thomas (Jesse Juma), Hutchinson; grandchildren, Tony Sneath, Wendy White, Lindsy Hobbs, Amanda Sharp, Jordan Wiens, Alyssa Thomas, Luke Thomas; and seven great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by: her parents; husband, daughters, Denise Farris and Cheryl Thomas; sister, Barbara Bethas; and brother, Harold Babcock.

Funeral service will be 10 am Thursday May 25, 2023, at First Congregational Church, Hutchinson, with Pastor Matt Stafford officiating. Burial will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery. Friends may call from 9 am to 8 pm Wednesday with family present from 5 to 7 pm at Elliott Mortuary.

DeWayne R. Herrs, 82, of McPherson, KS, passed away peacefully on Sunday, May 21, 2023, at Ascension Via Christi-St. Francis Regional Medical Center, Wichita.&nbsp; DeWayne was a retired barber, former owner of Headquarters Hair Care in McPherson.

DeWayne was born on October 27, 1940, in Linn, Kansas, the son of Marvin and Clara (Ohlde) Herrs.&nbsp; He graduated from Linn High School in 1958 and from Wichita Barber School.&nbsp; On May 9, 1970, DeWayne was united in marriage to Roberta “Bertie” R. Gutsch in McPherson.&nbsp; This union was blessed with three children, Ryan, Timothy and Elizabeth.

He was a member of Grace Lutheran Church and Master Gardeners &amp; Friends.&nbsp; He was also a board member of Disability Supports and former McPherson High School Booster Club president.&nbsp;

Survivors include: his loving wife of 53 years, Roberta “Bertie” of the home; three children, Ryan Herrs (Kelly Lyman) of Wichita, KS, Timothy Herrs of Derby, KS, and Elizabeth Herrs of McPherson, KS; a brother, Rodney Herrs (Karen) of Tonganoxie, KS; two grandchildren, Jacob Herrs and Benjamin Herrs; sisters-in-law &amp; brothers-in-law, Rebecca Meyer (Craig) of Liberty, MO, Robin Chapman (Kenny) of Gallatin, TN, and Rita Martin (Tod) of Casper, WY; and numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, extended family, and friends.

Preceded in death by her husbands Arthur E. Lewis and Carl Moore, son Arthur Daniel Lewis, brothers Daniel Shanabrook and Paul Shanabrook, sisters Gladys Peterman and Alice Dillion, step sisters Barbara Huff, Andrea Wood and Patricia Ann Monk.

Hazel moved to Valley Center in 1992 after losing her second husband Carl Moore, to be close to her daughter and family. She volunteered at the Wichita Botanical Gardens for 30 years and won the Golden Star Award there in 2014. She was a member of the Little Arkansas DAR Chapter in Valley Center, Kansas.

Bob Wayne Nickel, 81, of Newton, Kansas, passed away Tuesday, April 25, 2023 at Wesley Medical Center in Wichita. He was born October 24, 1941 in Hillsboro, Kansas, the son of Arnold and Lena (Gossen) Nickel.

He graduated from Oakley High School with the class of 1960.

Bob worked as a warehouse manager for a feed company and was an over the road truck driver for 22 years. He later managed the Buhler COOP Fuel Station for several years.

He spent his free time wood carving, and volunteering at the salt mines in Hutchinson. Above all, Bob enjoyed spending time with his grandkids and would often be their personal bus driver and babysitter.

He was united in marriage to LaDonna “Kay” Ledford on August 13, 1977. She survives of the home.

Other survivors include his son, Troy (Susan) Nickel of Salina; daughter, Clarissa (Eric) Bontrager of Newton; five grandchildren, Savannah, Sandra, Hannah, Emma, and Cade; brother, Roy Nickel of Oakley; and three sisters, Lois Schroeder of Buhler, Julie Whitman of St. Francis, and Alma Becker of Arizona.

Bob was preceded in death by his parents; infant son, Cory Nickel; brother, John; and sisters, Irene and Joan.

Pamala A. Mulè, 73, of Wichita, died May 19, 2023, at Hutchinson Regional Medical Center. She was born June 28, 1949, in Hutchinson, to Don Cunningham and Rita (McConnell) Cunningham-Wright.

Pamala graduated from Hutchinson High School in 1967, then attended business college in Emporia. There, she met her husband, Thomas A. ‘Tom’ Mulè. After pursuing him for some time, they finally went on a date. Later, on May 18, 1968, she married Tom in Emporia. They shared over 55 years together before her passing.&nbsp;

She was a very devoted woman. She tirelessly helped her husband, Tom, run their businesses, including, Tomassi’s and the Polo Bar &amp; Grill. Pamala ran a tight ship when she would work in the restaurants. She loved to shop, and would always get a good deal. Pamala enjoyed taking care of her grandkids, and sharing recipes with her granddaughter so she could cook for her friends. Pamala adored animals, but she had a special connection with dogs. Christmas was her favorite time of year. Pamala would shop all year so she could give everyone gifts. She also enjoyed decorating.

She was a member of Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church.

Pamala is survived by: her husband, Thomas A. ‘Tom’ Mulè, Wichita; sons, Tommy Mulè, Hutchinson, Anthony Mulè, Hutchinson, and Travis Mulè, Castle Rock, CO; grandchildren, Tanner, Hutchinson, Tate, Castle Rock, CO, Landon, Fort Scott, Maddison, Castle Rock, CO, Mia, Castle Rock, CO, Giovanni, Hutchinson, Piper, Hutchinson, and Renèe, Hutchinson; sister, Angel Griffith, Hutchinson; and brothers, Shawn Cunningham, Hutchinson, and Michael (Paula) Cunningham, South Hutchinson.

She was preceded in death by: her parents; parents-in-law, Charles and Concetta Mulè; brother, Daniel Cunningham; and sister, Jill Trump.

Cremation has taken place. It was Pamala’s wishes to not have a service.

Pamala adored animals, but she had a special connection with dogs. Christmas was her favorite time of year. Pamala would shop all year so she could give everyone gifts. Gary D. ‘GG’ Graves, 64, died May 18, 2023, at his home, in Hutchinson. He was born June 2, 1958, in Wichita, to Duane E. Graves and Beverly K. Graves.

Gary graduated from Hutchinson High School in 1976 and went on to be an electrician for many years. In his career, he taught at IBEW and eventually opened G&amp;G Electric. During that time, his passion of motocross led him to owning G&amp;G Cycle, as well as a partnership in owning and operating Prairie Pups Motorcycle Club, in Hutchinson. Gary continued to ride vintage all over the U.S., bringing home many first-place trophies. &nbsp;

Gary was a loving father, and will be missed by many.

Gary is survived by: his daughters, Tessy (Fred) Salisbury, Castle Rock, CO, Melinda Graves, Hutchinson, Samantha (Kelly) Edgar, Hutchinson, Taylor Graves, Eudora, and Kenzie Graves, Eudora; granddaughter, Karter Banker, Hutchinson; mother, Beverly Graves, Dallas, TX; and caring friend, Kim Kienzle, Hutchinson.

He was preceded in death by his father, Duane Graves.

Larry Dean Thode, 86, died May 18, 2023, at Hospice House, Hutchinson. &nbsp;He was born August 31, 1936, on the family farm north of Plevna, to Albert Daniel “Danny” and Thelma Elnora (Drake) Thode.

Larry graduated from Plevna High School, received his associates degree from Hutchinson Junior College, and proudly served in the United States Navy from 1954 to 1962. &nbsp;He retired from the Reno County Public Works Department, as the Assistant County Engineer, after 41 years of service. Larry enjoyed reading, traveling, and woodworking. &nbsp;He was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church, Hutchinson, and the Doers Sunday School Class. &nbsp;Larry cherished his family and was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. &nbsp;He was known for preserving all the family photos, which are memories his family will forever cherish.

On August 31, 1956, he married Letha Kay Clough, at Huntsville United Methodist Church. &nbsp;They shared almost 67 years of marriage. &nbsp;

Larry is survived by: &nbsp;his wife, Letha of Hutchinson; daughters, Beverly Burns (Randy) of Wichita, Jeanette Ward (Martin) of Glendale, AZ, and Sherri Powell (Kenny) of Hutchinson; grandchildren, Jennifer Boesker, Amy Jo Sellke, Nick Cash, Rachel Diepenbrock, Kelly Rolen, and Grace Clinton; great-grandchildren, Brooklynn Boesker, Cash Diepenbrock, and Revan Dean Rolen; stepsister, Jenese Groth of Lufkin, TX; sisters-in-law, Marie Thode and Marlene Thode, both of Hutchinson; and numerous nieces and nephews.&nbsp;

Kathy graduated from Hutchinson High School in 1977 and attended Hutchinson Community College. She worked in medical records and as a CNA at Sunshine Meadows Retirement Community in Buhler for over 26 years. Kathy was an avid reader and loved music of all kinds.

She is survived by: her children, Ricky 'Rick' Vollnogel Jr. (Megan) of Hutchinson, Julie Vollnogel (Aaron Dennett) of McPherson, Andrew Vollnogel of Hutchinson, John Vollnogel of Hutchinson; granddaughters, Rhiannon and Meadow and their mother Brandi; mother, Ruby Chronister of Hutchinson; sister, Chris Hoffman (Bill) of Hutchinson; nieces, Beth Edwards (Dave) and Erin Wheeler (Charles); and many extended family members.

Beverly "Bev" J. Hudspeth, 86, of Wichita, Kansas passed away on May 11, 2023.

Beverly was born on February 27, 1937 and lived a wonderful life. She spent her early years bouncing around state to state but ultimately settled in Wichita, KS where she spent the majority of her life.

She was the co owner of the Paramount Antique Mall-West, in which she took great pride in. She spent time working there as well having her own booth space where she showcased her multifaceted taste of fine antiques.

Beverly had the biggest heart and was the most caring person. She was a private and quiet person, but also very witty and fun! She always told the truth and made sure to shoot you straight. She was strong willed and stubborn at times but you never questioned the love she had for you. She could never meet a stranger. She loved gardening, reading, her dogs, and history.

Beverly was preceded by her parents, her two brothers, and her son. She is survived by her daughter, Sandy Hudspeth of Wichita, Ks, grandson, Devon Hudspeth &amp; wife, Taylor Hudspeth of Lenexa, KS, great grandson, Easton Hudspeth of Lenexa, KS and daughter-in-law, Dana Noe of Peculiar, MO.

James (Jim) Donald Gronau of Newton, Kansas passed away peacefully on May 17, 2023 at Halstead Health &amp; Rehab in Halstead, Kansas at the age of 82.  James was born on March 30, 1941 in Newton, Kansas to A.M. and Agnes (Endres) Gronau.

He attended Newton High School where he met and courted the love of his life, Dennes (Dennie) Rae Grant.  They were married June 18, 1960 in Newton, Kansas for 63 wonderful, exciting, sometimes crazy years.

A lifelong resident of Newton, Jim owned and operated various businesses in the area prior to retirement, including:  Gronau Lumber &amp; Welding where he designed and produced cattle and hog equipment, and ran one of the few sawmills in the state.  Big Jim’s BBQ, where Jim affectionately earned the moniker “Big Jim” and a legion of customers and BBQ fanatics who would follow him anywhere to get his world-class BBQ.  Jim was also known for his antique “creations” that were displayed in the many antique mall booths they operated.  Jim had the ability to take an old, broken, throw-away object and turn it into a sought-after work of art.

Survivors include wife Dennie of Newton.  Children - Gary Gronau (Sheri) of Newton; Larry Gronau (Brenda) of Newton; Geri Schroeder (Mark) of Walton.  Grandchildren – Ashley Campbell (Shane), Cody Gronau (Jessica), Erica Stevens (Wade), Chelsea Mikulecky (Brian), and 7 great grandchildren.  Sisters Jeanie Senn and Rita Gronau, sisters-in-law Nancy Gronau and Carol Grant, brothers-in-law Joe Jessee and Bill Grant.  Several nieces and nephews.

Jim was preceded in death by his parents, son Cary Gronau, brother Robert Gronau, sister Susan Gronau, brothers-in-law Jim Senn and Jon Grant, sisters-in-law Leslie Jessee and Shari Grant.

James (Jim) Donald Gronau |1941-2023|

David William Clark, 67, of McPherson, KS, passed away on Tuesday, May 16, 2023, at his home in McPherson.&nbsp; David retired from Kansas Power and Light gas company after 37 years of service in September of 2015.

David was born on July 27, 1955, in Junction City, KS, the son of Paul William and Jacquelyn Katherine (Warrensburg) Clark.&nbsp; He graduated from Junction City High School in 1974.&nbsp; On December 19, 1981, David was united in marriage to Sandra “Sandy” Gaylene Record in McPherson, KS.

Survivors include: a daughter, Billi Mowbray and husband, Darin, of McPherson, KS; two grandchildren, Seth Mowbray and wife, Catherine of Lenexa, KS and Sami Reitsma and husband, Chance, of McPherson, KS; great-grandchildren, Averi Reitsma and Theodore “Teddy” Mowbray, and one great-grandbaby on the way; two sisters, Paulette McCallum of New Plymouth, ID and Kathy Kenyon of Lawton, OK; and mother-in-law, Louise Record of Wichita, KS.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, son, Richard Clark, and a sister, Connie Wendler.

Marlene Joyce Clements, 85, of McPherson, Kansas, passed away at 10:15 a.m., Monday, June 15th, 2020 while in the company of family members at the Cedars. Marlene was born in Wichita, Kansas on December 26, 1934, a daughter of Henry Gail "Red" and Maudie Etta (DePee) Mountz-Morley. Marlene attended the Lincoln and Washington grade schools, McPherson Junior High and graduated from McPherson High School, McPherson, Kansas in 1952. She then attended Business School in Wichita, Kansas and Hutchinson Junior Community College, Hutchinson, Kansas. She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in McPherson where she faithfully served her church in several capacities through the years. Marlene was a homemaker and worked as a bookkeeper for Tucker Firestone, as a dental assistant for Dr. Smith, worked as a Bookkeeper for Certain-Teed Corporation and then as an Office Manager, Secretary and Treasurer for American Maplan until she retired in 1999. Marlene was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2715 Ladies Auxiliary and American Legion Post 24 Ladies Auxiliary. Marlene enjoyed gardening, fishing, hunting, auctions, casino's and spending time with her friends and family. Marlene was united in marriage to Danny R. Lockwood in 1954 at the Church of God in McPherson, Kansas. Marlene was united in marriage to Pliny John "Tony" Clements on March 7, 1961 at Las Vegas, Nevada. They established their first home together in McPherson, Kansas. She is survived by her children, Brad Lockwood and his wife Ann, of Highlands Ranch, Colorado, Cary Lockwood, of Carrollton, Texas, Tracy Clements and his wife Toya, of Wichita, Kansas and Toni Brauer and her husband Richard, of McPherson, Kansas; She is also survived by her grandchildren, Melissa Lockwood, Jennifer Lockwood, Delaney Lockwood, Melissa Clouatre (Joe), Trenton Clements, Marci Clements, William "Bil" Brauer (Mindy) and 7 great-grandchildren, Veronica, Madelyn, Makenna, Taylor, Adrian, Kathryn, Jeremiah and Eryn; her niece Lori Krause; her Brother-in-law , Guy Clements (Frances); other relatives, many nieces and nephews and a host of friends. On Thursday May, 11, 2023 Michelle Lea Thomas, 55, formerly of Hutchinson, KS., residing in Peoria, AZ, departed earth spiritually when called to heaven by her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. She was born September 18, 1967 to Claudia and Willie Hairston. She was Mrs. Hairstons’ youngest child.

Michelle was preceded in death by her father Willie Hairston, Brother Tony Trotter, niece Meghan Butler and Cousin Kent Smith.

Surviving family includes mother Claudia Hairston, Hutchinson, KS. sisters Vonciel (Art) Trotter Hutchinson, and Josephine (Cory) Ford of Maize, KS. Her Aunt Yvonne Johnson, Hutchinson. Nephews Vorel (wife Jamie) Trotter and D.J., Washington who recruited her to live in the Phoenix, Az. Area. Left to mourn is a large group of nieces, nephews, and friends too numerous to mention including Shannon Thomas whom she married January 04, 2007 at McPherson KS.

Michelle attended Hutch High and later enrolled at Hutchinson Community College where she received her nursing degree. She began a nursing career working in KS that took her to the state of WA and eventually the Phoenix, AZ., area.

Matthew “Mat” Dean Ayers, 40, of McPherson, KS, passed away on Wednesday, May 17, 2023, at Hutchinson Regional Medical Center, Hutchinson, KS.&nbsp;

He was born on March 4, 1983, in Pella, IA, the son of Dean Edward and Beverly Sue (Rouw) Ayers.&nbsp; He graduated from Twin Cedars High School (Bussey, IA) in 2002 and from McPherson College in 2007.&nbsp; He continued his education at Bethany Seminary in Richmond, IN.&nbsp; On June 6, 2009, Mat was united in marriage to Emily Elizabeth Flora in Quinter, KS.&nbsp; This union was blessed with four children, Veda, Dane, Everly, and Logan.

Mat was a light inspection trainer at Pfizer and worked part-time at Three Rings Brewery, both in McPherson.

Mat was a member of the McPherson Church of the Brethren.

Christine Louise Hudson, 74, of McPherson, KS, went to heaven to meet Jesus Wednesday, May 17, 2023, in Lindsborg, KS, after battling with cancer.&nbsp; She was born January 13, 1949, in Great Bend, KS, the daughter of Eldon and Dorothy (Ade) Folmnsbee.&nbsp; She graduated high school from Great Bend, KS and college from Fort Hays State University with her teaching degree.

While in college, she met her husband, Thomas (Tom) Eugene Hudson, and married him on August 30, 1969.&nbsp; During their wonderful 53 years of marriage, Christine and Tom had four children and lived in many towns all over Kansas while working in education.&nbsp; Christine taught preschool, 1st, 2nd, 3rd, middle school, and ended her career as a reading tutor when they came to retire in McPherson.&nbsp; Teaching came natural to Christine.&nbsp; She was always the patient and kind teacher who loved her students like her own.&nbsp; She was a wife, homemaker, mother, teacher, sister, and everything in between, but her favorite title was Grammy.&nbsp; When her two grandchildren were born, she officially retired from education and took on the full-time role as a grandmother.&nbsp; She loved taking care of the kids as babies and watching them grow.&nbsp; Christine was also very involved in the church through her life and always led with her faith in everything she did.&nbsp; Some of Christine’s favorite hobbies were church activities, watching her favorite mystery series, reading/going to the library, golfing with Tom, walking, shopping, playing card games with family and friends, and supporting grandkids at all their events.&nbsp;

She was preceded in death by her son, Andrew Christian Hudson, and her parents, Eldon and Dorothy Folmnsbee.

Christine is survived by her husband, Tom Hudson of McPherson and three children: Brad Hudson of McPherson, Brett Hudson of McPherson, and Amy Gilkey (Adam) of McPherson; one brother, Gary Folmnsbee (Cathy) of Oklahoma City, OK; and two grandchildren: Finn and Addison Gilkey, and many nieces and nephews.

Memorial service will be held at 10:30 AM, on Wednesday, May 24, 2023, at the First Baptist Church, 600 E. Maxine Danner-Adrian, 91, passed away Wednesday, May 17, 2023, at Sunshine Meadows Retirement Community. She was born February 9, 1932, in Blackwell, OK. She was a graduate of Braham High School. She was a homemaker, also working as a waitress for Toot’s Café, Sandy’s Kitchen, and the Crusader Grill. She had also been a cashier for Klassen’s Market. She was a member of Buhler Mennonite Brethren Church and enjoyed playing the piano and harmonica.

On September 26, 1950, she married Virgil Danner. He died March 21, 2002. In 2003, she married LaVerne Adrian. He died June 26, 2019.

Survivors include two sons, Gary (Bonnie) Danner, Clearwater, and Mark (Danna) Danner, Burrton; a daughter, Tanis (Morrie) Unruh, Newton; 5 grandchildren, Greta Colbert, Clearwater, Grady Danner, Hutchinson, Stacy Cofield, Newton, Samantha Froese, Inman, Amanda Beaver, Lyons; 10 Great Grandchildren; and 1 Great Great Grandchild.

She was preceded in death by 4 brothers, Raymond, LeRoy, Melvin, and Marvin Schalk.

Phyllis June Braden, 68, of McPherson, Kansas, passed away Monday, May 8, 2023 at her home. 

June was born July 15, 1954, in Pratt, Kansas, the daughter of Alfred Junior and Mary Phyllis (Barkley) Wilson. June was united in marriage to William Jay Braden in Salida, Colorado. She was the owner and operator of her and William's Masonry Business. June enjoyed scrapbooking, spoiling all her grandkids, going to garage sales, and spending time with her friends and family. 

She is survived by her children, Terry Braden of Colorado, Steve Braden of Kansas City, Missouri, Jason Wilson of McPherson, and Stephanie (Steve) Oakes of McPherson; 14 grandchildren; nine great grandchildren; siblings, Debbra Harper of Wichita, Kansas, William Wilson of McPherson, and James (Aurelia) Wilson of Cuchara, Colorado.; and all her bonus children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. 

June was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; her sons, Ty Braden and Doug Braden; her brother, Woody Wilson; and her grandson, Jon Paul Oakes.

June was born July 15, 1954, in Pratt, Kansas, the daughter of Alfred Junior and Mary Phyllis (Barkley) Wilson. June was united in marriage to William Jay Braden in Salida, Colorado. She was the owner and operator of her and William's Masonry Business. June enjoyed scrapbooking, spoiling all her grandkids, going to garage sales, and spending time with her friends and family. She is survived by her children, Terry Braden of Colorado, Steve Braden of Kansas City, Missouri, Jason Wilson of McPherson, and Stephanie (Steve) Oakes of McPherson; 14 grandchildren; nine great grandchildren; siblings, Debbra Harper of Wichita, Kansas, William Wilson of McPherson, and James (Aurelia) Wilson of Cuchara, Colorado.; and all her bonus children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. June was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; her sons, Ty Braden and Doug Braden; her brother, Woody Wilson; and her grandson, Jon Paul Oakes. Phyllis June Braden |1954-2023|

Jonni Melinda Kruckenberg of Great Bend, Kansas died on May 12, 2023 in Hutchinson, Kansas.

She was born on March 12, 1958 in Newcastle, Wyoming to Wilma Patricia “Pat” and Melvin Hunt. She was the youngest of siblings Dena, Jerry, Lonny, and Debbie. Her father, Melvin, was severely injured in an accident while driving for work while Pat was pregnant with Melinda. He was taken by Flight for Life to a Denver hospital where he died from severe burns. It was a time of great grief for the family and a grief that Melinda would carry through her life. Pat fell in love with and married Roy Glenn Julius who would do the work and labor of love of being a father to Melinda after she was born.

With Pat’s marriage to Roy Glenn, Melinda gained sister Virginia and in the years after, younger siblings followed: Patty, Nancy, and Janet making Melinda a big sister, too.

Summers were spent traveling from Wyoming to Washington to retain connections with the Hunt side of the family.

Melinda was a cheerleader at Upton High School where she grew up in Upton, Wyoming. She worked at the Tastee Freeze. Summers were spent swimming and sunbathing. At age 16, she married Stephen Lee Henderson and they had three children: Angela, Scott, and Stephanie. They enjoyed spending time with family and going to the lake to camp and swim.

In the spring of 1984, Stephen and Melinda divorced. Melinda and the kids moved from Upton, Wyoming to Great Bend, Kansas to live with Roy and Pat Julius until moving out on her own to raise her 3 children.

Melinda always wanted to make sure her children had a father, but she also worked on herself, too. She worked hard raising her kids working odd jobs, getting her GED and then going to Barton County Community College to earn her Associate’s Degree in Criminal Justice. She built a village of support through extended family, friend Sharon Cox and a group for singles called New Beginnings, and at the Community of Christ Church. She met and fell in love with Martin (Marty) Kruckenberg. They married in the Community of Christ Church in Great Bend, Kansas on April 10, 1993. The family grew a bit more to include not only Marty, but also his two daughters Gina and Amy.

Having 5 kids kept Marty and Melinda quite busy in addition to their work. Melinda earned her CNA Certification in Mental Health and worked for a time at the State Mental Hospital in Larned, Kansas. After a move to Buhler, Kansas following Marty’s job opportunity at Eaton, Melinda secured a position working in Medical Records for Inman Manor in Inman, Kansas.

There were tough times and yet there were also times to laugh and have fun together. Melinda enjoyed creating ways for the family to get together for board games or events and made sure birthdays and holidays were special. She loved watching Soap Operas when she was younger and then moved to Friends, This Is Us, and Court TV. She was incredibly passionate about fairness and justice and helping others. She was especially passionate about her family and grandchildren who lit up her face every time they visited.

Melinda struggled with health problems for much of her life having her first heart attack at age 42. She was surrounded by her ever expanding family in person (and even more in spirit!) when she died peacefully on May 12, 2023. She persevered through so much and now she is finally whole again and at peace.

Robert ‘Bob’ Wesley McCullough, 83, passed away May 15, 2023, at his home.&nbsp;&nbsp;He was born November 15, 1939, in Burlington, KS, to John Dee McCullough and Lena J. (Woods) McCullough.

Bob received an Associates Degree from Hutchinson Community College and served in the United States Army.&nbsp;&nbsp;He was employed as the maintenance supervisor and an instructor in the carpentry shop at Hutchinson Correctional Facility, retiring with many years of service.&nbsp;&nbsp;After retirement, Bob managed the Farmers’ Market for more than 15 years.&nbsp;&nbsp;He was a longtime member of First United Methodist Church, Hutchinson, KS.

Bob enjoyed woodworking and could make anything from furniture to jewelry boxes.&nbsp;&nbsp;He was also into the building and the construction of homes.

On February 14, 1960, Bob married Winifred Jane Bradshaw, in Ottawa, KS.&nbsp;&nbsp;They shared over 63 years of marriage.

He is survived by:&nbsp;&nbsp;his wife, Winifred ‘Winnie’ McCullough of Hutchinson, KS; and son, Bryan (fiancée Kristina Patterson) McCullough of Hutchinson, KS.

Bob was preceded in death by:&nbsp;&nbsp;his parents; brother, Clyde ‘Mac’ McCullough; and sister, Darlene Hadden.

Forest Jay Pitts, 100, formerly of Hutchinson, died May 16, 2023, at Newton Presbyterian Manor, Newton. He was born April 30, 1923, in Jetmore, to Charles and Sarah Paton (Freerksen) Pitts.

As a child, Forest had a shoe shine stand in Whitman’s Barber Shop as well as at the Sale Barn on sale days.&nbsp;&nbsp;During high school, he worked at Jones Drug Store. Forest graduated from Dodge City High School in 1941.&nbsp;&nbsp;Forest served in the United States Army from 1943-46, seeing action at the Battle of the Bulge, the Rhineland, and in central Europe. During a furlough, Forest married Bonnie Obenhaus.&nbsp;&nbsp;They had four sons.&nbsp;&nbsp;After service, the Pitts family moved to Ulysses where Forest was owner of Pitts &amp; Burk Shoes until 1973.&nbsp;&nbsp;While in Hutchinson, Forest sold real estate and had his own&nbsp;&nbsp;real estate appraisal business.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;Bonnie passed away in 1961. In 1963, Forest married Esther Amerine.&nbsp;&nbsp;They had a daughter.&nbsp;&nbsp;In 1969, he married Margaret Hager who passed away in 1996.&nbsp;&nbsp;In 1997, Forest married Betty Daugherty.&nbsp;&nbsp;She survives.

Forest was interested in the Stock market, pheasant hunting, fishing, remodeling real estate, RVing, Royals baseball, the Chiefs, KU and HCC basketball and loved animals.

Forest is survived by: Betty Pitts of Frankfort, KS; daughter, Lisa Shaun Pitts (Dan) Buchanan of Newton; sons, Larry Dean (Judy) Pitts of Blue Springs, MO, Randy Craig (Kathy)Pitts of Lee’s Summit, MO, and Alan Roger (Kathy) Pitts of Newton; step-daughter, Sharon Hager Sellens of Wasilla, AK; stepchildren Pam and Pat; ten grandchildren; thirteen and one on the way great-grandchildren; and brother, Orrin Pitts of Hutchinson.
