Ila M. Pace, 97, formerly of Iuka, MS, died May 20, 2023, at Prairie Sunset Home, Pretty Prairie, KS. &nbsp;She was born January 31, 1926, in Iuka, MS, to Fred A. and Bernie (Daniels) Martin. Ila moved to Pretty Prairie, KS over six years ago to be closer to family.

Ms. Ila graduated from Iuka High School, Iuka, MS. &nbsp;She retired from General Electric as an executive administrative assistant after 36 years of service. &nbsp; After her husband James died, Ila went to work at Tishomingo Manor, Iuka, MS. &nbsp;Ila was a classy and humble lady. &nbsp;She enjoyed keeping busy and helping those in need. &nbsp;Ila loved her immediate and extended family and her church family unconditionally. &nbsp; She was a member of Mount Evergreen United Methodist Church, Iuka, MS.&nbsp;

August 1947, she married James Pace, Jr., in Chicago, IL. &nbsp;He died December 26, 1994, after they shared 47 years of marriage.&nbsp;

Ila is survived by: &nbsp;son, Daniel R. Pace (Brenda) of Pretty Prairie; brother, Charles Martin (Susie) of Iuka, MS; and a host of nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.

She was preceded in death by: &nbsp;her parents; sisters, Jewel Watkins and Lois Johnson; and brothers, Earl Martin, Fred Martin, Jr .and Billy Martin, and their spouses.&nbsp;

Funeral service was 11:00 a.m. Friday, June 9, 2023, at Evergreen United Methodist Church, 253 Country Road 224, Iuka, MS. &nbsp;Burial was in Old Pleasant Hill Cemetery. &nbsp;

Deborah “Deb” Dawn Anderson, 65, of McPherson, KS, passed away on Monday, June 12, 2023, at McPherson Hospital.

Deb was born on December 7, 1957, in Plainville, KS, the daughter of Calvin Ralph and Patricia Gail (Banks) Dix.&nbsp; She graduated from Stockton High School and attended Bethany College, Lindsborg.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; On August 1, 1976, Deb was united in marriage to Ronald Gene Anderson in Stockton, KS.&nbsp; This union was blessed with two children, Shawna and Shad.&nbsp;

Survivors include: her loving husband of 46 years, Ron of the home; two children, Shawna Anderson of Olathe, KS and Shad Anderson of McPherson, KS; mother, Gail Dix of Stockton, KS; brothers, Frank Dix (Kathy) of Woodston, KS, Doug Dix (Tina) of Hays, KS, and Pat Dix (Dara) of McPherson, KS; four grandchildren, Paige Ginardi, Kelsey Anderson, Rilynn Anderson, and Blade Anderson; and many nieces, nephews, and extended family.

She was preceded in death by her father, Ralph Dix.

A visitation/viewing will be held from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM on Friday, June 16, 2023, at Stockham Family Funeral Home.&nbsp;

Brannon Paul Curiel, 47, died June 10, 2023, at Kanopolis Lake. He was born December 17, 1975, in Hutchinson, to Lynn Curiel and Melissa (Wagoner) Decoster-Hoffman.

Brannon graduated from Hutchinson High School in 1994. He went on to join the United States Army in 1996, and retired in 2016. Brannon was currently pursing his bachelor degree in art at Wichita State University, he was extremely talented at art of all mediums. He was a guitarist and loved music. Brannon enjoyed the outdoors and all animals, including his dogs, Frank and Chewie, and cat, Tamen. He was always kind and would often go out of his way to help people in need. More than anything Brannon loved his family and adored all of his nieces and nephews.

On May 25, 1996, he married Tabitha Linn Grindstaff, in Hutchinson. They shared 27 years of marriage.

Brannon is survived by: wife, Tabi Curiel; mother, Melissa Decoster-Hoffman (Jerry); father, Lynn Curiel; twin brother, David Curiel; sister, Tiffany Antonio; sister, Shanna Curiel-Davis (Jamie); grandparents, Pete and Ruby Curiel; grandmother, Jane Wagoner; uncle, Steven Curiel (Nellie); aunt, Janie Mclemore (Shawn); uncles, Bob Wagoner (Kathy), Dan Wagoner (Lori); nine nieces and nephews; and six great-nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by: his beloved dog, Mia; grandfather, Lanny Wagoner; and mother-in-law, Jeanie Jensen.

Patricia A. Hildebrand, 91, of South Hutchinson, died June 11, 2023, in Hutchinson. &nbsp;She was born August 31, 1931, in Hutchinson, to Claud and May (Hedgecock) Black.

Patricia graduated from Hutchinson High School. &nbsp;She was a life-long home maker. &nbsp;She enjoyed crocheting and collecting dolls.

Patricia married Alvin Hildebrand on May 4, 1950. &nbsp; They shared 50 years of marriage prior to his death on Feb 14, 2001. &nbsp;

Patricia is survived by: daughter, Jodi (James) Dull, South Hutchinson; sons, Steve and Rick (Debbie) Hildebrand, South Hutchinson, Mike (Mary) Hildebrand, Hutchinson; granddaughters, Tara (Luke) Schneider and Mandi (Levi) Blumanhourst; and grandsons, Dustin (Lindsay), Kip and Brandon Hildebrand; and 11 great-grandchildren.&nbsp; &nbsp;

She was preceded in death by: her parents, husband and granddaughter Holly Hadley.

Peggy Sue Ledesma answered to the Lord’s call home on June 7, 2023, in Fort Worth, Texas. Peggy was born on August 29,1971 in Yuba City, California to John Ellis and Josefa Ellis. &nbsp;

In 1985, Peggy met Daniel Ledesma in Dimmit, Texas who soon became her best friend and husband of 36 years. Peggy and Daniel went on to have Four children, James Ledesma, Jacqueline Ledesma, Natasha Villareal, and Jaeden Ledesma. Her dream was to get married and have children. She was more than happy to be the central figure in the lives of her children. Anyone who knew her children knew that she was sunshine in their eyes, and that’s all that ever mattered to her. &nbsp;

She settled down with her husband, Daniel Ledesma, in Lamesa, Texas. Peggy found joy in attending The Church God of the Firstborn with her family. She was a youth teacher and the secretary for her church. She did both jobs with punctuality, humility, and grace. Peggy taught us to always stay faithful to what we believe in and depend solely on the Lord. She showed unconditional love and she showed how to forgive. Peggy was a faithful, humble, loving, caring, kind, and giving woman with a sweet spirit. Her life and legacy were one full of living and working for the lord which is a great testimony to us. She fought all her battles through prayer. Her life has always been a blessing to us, and we will always remember her famous words, “Lord willing”. &nbsp;

She was preceded in death by her mother Josefa Ellis and brother Johnny Joe Ellis. &nbsp;

Peggy leaves behind her dad, John Ellis, six siblings Joann, Richard, Isabel, John, Eddie, and Donna, two sons James and Jaeden Ledesma, two daughters Jacqueline and Natasha Ledesma, and her dear husband Daniel, along with her 13 grandchildren. &nbsp;

The family of Peggy Ledesma wishes to thank everyone for all the love, support, and prayers. They would also like to send out a special thanks to all those who helped with the funeral arrangements. &nbsp;

Joe Ben Keith, 93, of Buhler, Kansas, went home to be with the Lord on June 9, 2023, surrounded by his family at Wesley Medical Center, Wichita, Kansas. Joe was born on the family farm outside of Goodson in Polk County, Missouri, on December 24, 1929, to James Henry (Jim) and Jennie Jones Keith. After his mother died, he was raised by his father, his beloved step-mother Mabel (DeGraffenreid Haralson) Keith, and his older sisters. He went to Goodson Grade School and Halfway High School, then graduated from Bolivar High School in 1948. Joe married Leita Mae Locke on June 18, 1950; they would have celebrated their 73rd anniversary this week. Joe and Leita lived in Bolivar and Springfield and on farms around Polk County, raising their six children. They were members of Second Baptist (now Southern Hills) Church. In 1963 they moved to North Kansas City, Missouri, where Joe worked for Consumers Co-op of America (Farmland Industries). In 1968 they moved to Waco, Texas, and in 1973 they moved to Aurora, Colorado. Joe served as a deacon in three Baptist churches over the years. He retired from Farmland Industries in 1990.

As a young man Joe worked on threshing crews, on the family farms, and in Keith Turkey Hatchery. Over the years when mail arrived or phone calls came to Joseph Benjamin Keith, Joe knew it was junk mail or advertising calls, as his full name was Joe Ben Keith. The Keiths have a large extended family and Joe always loved having a baby in his arms—he was the baby whisperer.

In retirement Joe and Leita enjoyed traveling (the U.S., Canada, Europe, Mexico) and visiting family and friends, developing communities of friends and helping in business ventures. They moved back to the Bolivar area in 1991, to Buhler, Kansas in 2000, and to Lake Vallecito Colorado in 2005. In 2008 they began wintering in Yuma, Arizona, and for the last many years had homes in Yuma and Buhler. They have resided at Buhler’s Sunshine Meadows Retirement Community since 2009.

Joe is survived by his wife Leita Mae, their 6 children, 11 grandchildren, 26 great grandchildren, and 3 great great grandchildren. The children are Kathren Jaeger (Robert) of Berlin, New York, Gary Keith of Austin, Texas, Karen Stevens (Bob) of Farmington, New Mexico, Donald Keith (Talva) of Tyler, Texas, Ronald Keith (Patti) of Collinsville, Texas, and J.C. Keith (Liz) of Buhler, Kansas.

The grandchildren are Christina (Tom) Lee, Tammy Jaeger, Gabe Keith, David Keith, Melissa (Grant) Maxey, Jennifer (Dale) Hagstrom, Michael (Kristi) Carney, Mary Lynne (Robbie) Jones, Sarah Orem, Joanna (Marvin) Hicks, and Rachel (Josh) Neiman. Joe is also survived by sisters Barbara Voris of Walnut Grove, Missouri, and Lena Kentz of St. Charles, Missouri. He was preceded in death by his parents, 9 siblings (Ruth, Frances, Robert, David, Charlene, Jane, Dora, Ella Mae, and Paul), and grandson Matthew Keith.

Over the years when mail arrived or phone calls came to Joseph Benjamin Keith, Joe knew it was junk mail or advertising calls, as his full name was Joe Ben Keith. The Keiths have a large extended family and Joe always loved having a baby in his arms—he was the baby whisperer.In retirement Joe and Leita enjoyed traveling (the U.S., Canada, Europe, Mexico) and visiting family and friends, developing communities of friends and helping in business ventures. They moved back to the Bolivar area in 1991, to Buhler, Kansas in 2000, and to Lake Vallecito Colorado in 2005. In 2008 they began wintering in Yuma, Arizona, and for the last many years had homes in Yuma and Buhler. They have resided at Buhler’s Sunshine Meadows Retirement Community since 2009.Joe is survived by his wife Leita Mae, their 6 children, 11 grandchildren, 26 great grandchildren, and 3 great great grandchildren. The children are Kathren Jaeger (Robert) of Berlin, New York, Gary Keith of Austin, Texas, Karen Stevens (Bob) of Farmington, New Mexico, Donald Keith (Talva) of Tyler, Texas, Ronald Keith (Patti) of Collinsville, Texas, and J.C. Keith (Liz) of Buhler, Kansas.The grandchildren are Christina (Tom) Lee, Tammy Jaeger, Gabe Keith, David Keith, Melissa (Grant) Maxey, Jennifer (Dale) Hagstrom, Michael (Kristi) Carney, Mary Lynne (Robbie) Jones, Sarah Orem, Joanna (Marvin) Hicks, and Rachel (Josh) Neiman. Joe is also survived by sisters Barbara Voris of Walnut Grove, Missouri, and Lena Kentz of St. Charles, Missouri. Dorothy Jane Germann (Rempel) went home to Jesus on June 7th 2023 at age 74.

Dorothy Germann (Rempel) was born to Harry and Florence Entz on October 2nd, 1948 in Goessel, KS.

In addition to being a dedicated and loving mother, Dorothy also loved Quilting, spending time with her family, and taking lots of pictures of everyone. Throughout Dorothy’s entire life, she held an unwavering faith in God, which she shared with those she loved and others.

Dorothy joins her mother and father, and first husband in Heaven. Dorothy is survived by her husband Larry Germann, her son Johnny Rempel, Granddaughters Jessica and Lily Mitchell.

Funeral services will be held Friday June 16th 10:30 am at Eastwood Church of Christ 2500 N Plum Hutchinson KS, 67502. Reception will be before at 9:00 am at Eastwood Church of Christ along with the viewing. Old Mission Heritage is in charge of arrangements.

Merritt “Bubba” Roland Wright, 71, of Haven, died June 9, 2023, at Premier Living in Wichita. He was born October 21, 1951, in Albuquerque, New Mexico, to Lester and Annie (Hess) Wright.

Merritt graduated from Pretty Prairie High School in 1970. He worked at Haven Steel Production for 28 years and then Underground Vaults and Storage for 16 years. Merritt was the world’s #1 Chiefs fan and a beloved member of the Haven community. He was a member of Haven Baptist Church.

On October 12, 1974, he married Sandra Jo Stutzman, in Haven. They shared 48 years of marriage together.

Merritt is survived by: wife, Sandy Wright, Haven; daughter, Sarah Wright, Haven; son, Adam Wright, Haven; grandchildren, Issac Jackson and Clayton Wright; sisters, Cheryl Smarsh, Cheney, Kandy Bevan (Kent), Cheney, Penny Miller (Roger), Hutchinson; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by: father, Lester Wright; mother, Rebecca Jones; grandparents, Nellie and Merritt Hess; and parents-in-law, Mary Jane and Floyd Stutzman.

Dalice&nbsp;Wayne Franz&nbsp;&nbsp;80, died&nbsp;Wednesday, June&nbsp;7, 2023&nbsp;&nbsp;at&nbsp;home surrounded by his family.&nbsp;&nbsp; He was born January 12, 1943 in Newton, Kansas&nbsp;to&nbsp;Marvin&nbsp;and&nbsp;Frieda&nbsp;(Schroeder)&nbsp;Franz.&nbsp; In 1963, he married Nancy Kay Dillman of Halstead.&nbsp; He later married Deanna Wedel in September of 1992 and blended two families.

Dalice was a dirt work contractor before spending the next 20 years as owner and operator of Franz Repair that was run out of the house he built from the ground up.&nbsp; Dalice sold used cars for years before eventually going to Agco Corp. for the next 17 years before retiring at the of 66.

Dalice always had a love of motors and cars.&nbsp; From building hot rods to spending the next 50+ years with his passion of dirt track racing.&nbsp; He was never happier than when at the track with his family and winning many races over the years.&nbsp; He was a talented mechanic and helped anyone that needed it.&nbsp; He loved working on projects in the shop and especially enjoyed all of the friends and family that would stop by on Friday afternoons.&nbsp;

Dalice had a great love of family and was always interested in what his grandkids were involved in and made all of them feel special.&nbsp; They loved hearing his stories and one liners.&nbsp;

He&nbsp;is&nbsp;survived&nbsp;by&nbsp;his&nbsp;wife&nbsp;Deanna&nbsp;of the&nbsp;home;&nbsp; Sons: Kelly (Laura) Franz; Brian (Dawn) Franz; Travis (Chris) Wedel, Jase (Nikki) Wedel, Daughter&nbsp; Shelly (Scott) Hardman; 11 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren.&nbsp; Sister-in-laws Rita Franz and Judy Palmer.

She was born April 5, 1960, in Colorado Springs, Colorado, to Richard and Ruth (Lake) Hopkins.

Beverly attended Haven High School and went on to work as a case manager. She had many hobbies including woodworking, sewing, cooking, and softball. Beverly was also very musical and loved to play guitar and write music.

She is survived by: daughter, Stephanie Knight (Adam), Gardner; sons, Jessie Steffen (Jaime), Kiowa, Ronnie Steffen (Beth), New Jersey; grandchildren, Gage Steffen, Hunter Steffen, and Hayden Steffen; and sister, Jeniffer McPherson (Mike), Andover.

Beverly was preceded in death by her parents and brother, John Hopkins.

Lois F. Heintz, 100, died, Friday June 9, 2023 at Newton Presbyterian Manor. She was born October 28, 1922 in Mitchell South Dakota to Gustav and Gladys (Lowrie) Backlund. On March 4, 1943 she married Dean D Heintz at Mitchell, South Dakota and he preceded her in death on February 23, 2016.

Lois was a member of Salem United Methodist Church in Newton and was a retired cosmetologist with her how shop near Towanda she ran for many years. When she wasn't working or caring for her husband and family she enjoyed being in her yard and tending flowers and gardening. &nbsp;She also kept active taking various classes through the years such as jewelry making and toll painting. &nbsp;In her later years she made her home at Newton Presbyterian Manor where she made new friends and continued to keep active with crafts and attending the church services.

Lois is survived by three daughters Joan Petersen; Jean Cherrington and Lynn Bungess; one brother Charles Backlund; 6 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her husband, infant son Vaughn and Sister Delores Osborne.

Graveside committal service will be 11:00 a.m., Thursday June 15, 2023 at Greenwood Cemetery in Newton with Pastor Charles Claycomb presiding. &nbsp;Visitation will be 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. Wednesday at Petersen Funeral Home. Jack Christopher Orr, 91, died June 6, 2023, at Diversicare of Hutchinson, KS. &nbsp;He was born March 3, 1932, in Syracuse, KS, the son of William Melvin Orr and Gladys (Wright) Orr.

Jack was a graduate of Lyons High School, Lyons, KS. &nbsp;He served in the United States Army. &nbsp;Jack was employed by the City of Hutchinson Fire Department from May 1957 to January 1960. &nbsp;He then went to work for three years at Cessna and returned to work in June 1963 to the City of Hutchinson Fire Department, retiring in February 1995, with the rank of Captain.

Jack enjoyed taking cruises, especially to Alaska, dancing with his wife, and working in his backyard where he had a koi pond. &nbsp;He was a renowned jokester. &nbsp;Jack’s family was very important to him and he could be counted on if anyone needed help.

On December 3, 1988, he married Jackie Maxine Cox, in Hutchinson, KS. &nbsp;They shared over 34 years of marriage, prior to her death on July 29, 2019.

Jack is survived by: &nbsp;his daughter, Marsha (Loy Henderson) Flummerfelt of Ulysses, KS; son, Kelly Cox of Springfield, MO; grandchildren, Jason, Brock, Amber, Kasey, Spike, Liz, and Cameron; twelve great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandson; and friend, Bob (Linda) Starks of Hutchinson, KS.

He was preceded in death by: &nbsp;his parents; wife; son, Mike Hayden; and twin sister, Barbara Park.

She enjoyed playing the piano and accordion, teaching her grandchildren to play the piano, crocheting and spending time with family. &nbsp;She was preceded in death by her parents Harold &amp; Annabel Myrtle, husbands Mickie Spencer and Bud Zackula, sons Don Spencer and Gordon Spencer, son-in-law Paul Richter, brother Harold Myrtle, sisters Edith Dotson and Dorothy Zackula.

Mary met her husband Mickie at Valley Center High School. &nbsp;She worked at Boeing Company, Wichita, Kansas building B-47 bombers by bucking rivets. &nbsp;She also worked at McCormick-Armstrong printing in Wichita, Kansas as a bindery worker.

She is survived by daughters Linda Richter and Cherri (Randy) Engel, and son Mark (Kim) Spencer, daughters-in-law, Melanie Spencer and Helon Spencer, brother Jim (Kay) Myrtle, grandsons, Jack (Lauren) Spencer, William (Kendra) Engel, and Matthew Spencer, granddaughters, Jennifer (Matthew) Barrett, Melinda Engel, Traci Bales-Finley, Mandi (Ryan) Wichman, 13 great grandchildren and 3 great great grandchildren.

Mary "Myrtle" Spencer

Nadine Carol Crandall, 90, of Little River, Kansas, passed away June 6, 2023, at Sandstone Heights Nursing Home, Little River. 

She was born April 28, 1933, in Little River, the daughter of Carl Wilhelm and Myrtle Violet Leona Briggs Johnson. Nadine was a lifelong Little River resident. She graduated from Little River High School with the class of 1951. Nadine was a housewife. She was a member of the Andover Lutheran Church, Windom, Women of the ELCA, Mother’s Club and the Domestic Art’s both of Little River. Nadine enjoyed gardening, watching the birds, going out to eat, and most of all attending her grandchildren and great-grandchildren’s activities. 

On June 17, 1952, Nadine was united in marriage with Norman Crandall at the Andover Lutheran Church, Windom. He survives of the home. She is also survived by her two children, Chris Regehr and husband Delmer of Inman, KS, and Curtis Crandall and wife Janet of Little River, KS; four grandchildren, Jeff Regehr and wife Kathy, Tina Sawatzky and husband Dwayne, Amy Herzog and husband Derrick, and Jessica Ploutz and husband Derrick; eight great-grandchildren, Hannah, Ty, and CJ Herzog, Nolan and Kevin Ploutz, Jordan (Shane) Sawatzky, Spencer (Jake) Goalden, Katrina (Andy) Hogg; and five great-great-grandchildren, Korbin, Ansleigh, and Hayden Hogg, Delaynie and Porter Goalden. Nadine was preceded in death by her parents; three brothers, Virgil, Loren, and Rodney Johnson, and great-grandson, Drake Ploutz. 

Funeral service will be at 10:30 A.M., Monday, June 12, 2023, at the Andover Lutheran Church, with Pastor Anna Borders officiating. 

Burial will follow at the Bean Memorial Cemetery, Little River. Visitation will be from 4:00 until 6:00 P.M., Sunday, June 11, 2023, at Birzer Funeral Home, Lyons, with family present. Jack Shearer Sampson, 95, formerly of Hutchinson, died June 6, 2023. He will be fondly remembered for his sense of humor, wise counsel and investment in his community.&nbsp;

Jack was born June 24, 1927, in Beloit, to Clarence and Iona (Shearer) Sampson. He graduated from Abilene High School in 1945. He then served in the United States Navy before receiving his bachelor’s degree from Kansas State University in 1950. While at Kansas State, he was a member of Sigma Phi Epsilon Fraternity. At K-State he fell in love with “Arvy” Johnson, and the two were married on May 28, 1950.

For over 50 years, Jack and Arvy owned Sampson Communications, specializing in print and radio media, including KSKU and KLEO radio stations. Jack was appointed to the Kansas Board of Regents in 1988, and in 2022, inducted into the Kansas Association of Broadcasters Hall of Fame. Jack was a member of New Covenant Presbyterian Church, Hutchinson.&nbsp;

Jack is survived by: &nbsp;his wife Arvy of Lawrence; children, Cristy Bilhorn (John) of St. Louis, MO, Jack Richard “Rick” Sampson (Rita) of Phoenix, AZ, Teri Heft (Gordon) of Kansas City, MO; and Micki Chestnut (Rob) of Lawrence; 12 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.

Celebration of Life service will be 11:00 a.m. Mon., June 12 at New Covenant Presbyterian Church, 700 E. 25th Street, Hutchinson. Military honors will be conducted by the United States Navy Honor. &nbsp;Friends may sign his book from 9:00-5:00 Friday and Saturday and 1:00-5:00 Sunday at Elliott Mortuary. &nbsp;The family will greet friends following the service at the church.

Brandon L. Hoffman, 50, passed away June 2, 2023, at Ascension Via Christi St. Francis, Wichita. He was born November 9, 1972, in Greensburg, the son of Roger and Sandy Fitzwater Hoffman. He was a graduate of Coldwater High School and received his Bachelor of Arts in Business from Kansas State University. He was a self-employed handyman and was a member of Crossroads Christian Church. On December 21, 1996, he married Melissa “Missy” Clothier in Hutchinson, KS. She survives.

Other survivors include his mother, Coldwater; 16 children; 8 grandchildren; brothers, Kyle (Kristi) Hoffman and Duane (Beth) Huck, and 3 half siblings, all of Coldwater; mother-in-law, Deborah Clothier, Hutchinson; two sisters in law, Dawnita (Chad) Morgan, Overton, TX and Amanda Wright, Hutchinson; many nieces and nephews; and many more close family members.

He was preceded in death by his father; father-in-law, Donald Clothier; a brother, Sheldon Hoffman; and a niece, Lona (Huck) Ellis.

Cremation is planned. A celebration of life service will be held at 11:00 AM Saturday, June 10, 2023, at Crossroads Christian Church, Hutchinson. Dorothy enjoyed cooking, shopping, playing slot machines at casino's and spending time with her friends and family. Dorothy H. Hammel was united in marriage to Robert Lee Nelson on February 13, 1965 in California. The young couple established their first home together in Glendale County, California. This union was blessed with the birth of 2 children, Frank and Tammy. She is survived by her children, Frank Nelson of Canton, Kansas and Tammy Shadday of McPherson, Kansas, her 6 grandchildren, Ashley (Aron), Justine, Jessica (Jordan), Bree, Robert and Frank Jr. and 4 great grandchildren, Aiden, Malia, Kinsey and Harlow. Phyllis J. Schweizer, 89, died June 4, 2023, surrounded by her children at Hospice House, Hutchinson, KS. She was born January 19, 1934, in Berne, IN, to Eli and Lorena (Habegger) Lehman.&nbsp;

Phyllis was a 1952 graduate of Berne French High School. She went to Bob Jones University, Greenville, SC, and graduated with a Bachelors Degree in Education in 1959. &nbsp;After graduation, Phyllis was recruited to teach school in Wichita, KS. &nbsp;She taught there until the end of the 1962-1963 school year. &nbsp;Phyllis met her future husband, John ‘J.D.’ Schweizer at that time. They were married October 5, 1963, in Berne, IN. They lived on a farm southwest of Sterling, KS.

She was an active member of Sterling Evangelical Bible Church, Sterling, KS, where she taught Sunday school and served in AWANA among many other capacities.

Phyllis is survived by: &nbsp;four sons, Steve (Jean) Schweizer of Plevna, KS, Tim (Brenda) Schweizer of Sterling, KS, Tom (Christy) Schweizer of Sterling, KS, and Mark Schweizer of Denver, CO; daughter, Carol (Ben) Lotter of Mayville, MI; 19 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; brothers, Luther (Linda) Lehman and Charlie (Louise) Lehman, both of Berne, IN; sister-in-law, Lyn Lehman of Jackson, MI; and brother-in-law, Paul (Barbara) Schweizer of Sterling, KS.

She was preceded in death by: her husband; parents; brother, Willard Lehman; and great-grandson, Amos Schweizer.

Steven ‘Steve’ Wesley Cardwell Sr., 72, died June 4, 2023, at Hospice House, Hutchinson. He was born September 21, 1950, in Hutchinson, to Raymond Rex and Jacqueline Jane (Hines) Cardwell.

A Hutchinson High School graduate of 1968, Steven joined the United States Navy right after high school. After honorable discharge from service, he earned his master electrician license through his job at Adm Collingwood Grain in Hutchinson where he worked at as a Master Electrician.

Steve enjoyed fishing and camping, but his life mostly revolved around dogs. He was an active Board Member of the Hutchinson Kennel Club. In addition, Steven was a dog trainer, training dogs in obedience and agility. He also worked with therapy dogs and enjoyed taking them to hospitals and clinics as emotional support to patients.

On April 27, 1975 he married Paula ‘Susie’ Sue Fischer in Hutchinson. They shared 48 years of marriage.

Steven is survived by: his wife, Paula ‘Susie’ Cardwell of Hutchinson; son, Steven Cardwell Jr. of Hutchinson; siblings, Sue (John) Miller of Hutchinson and Rexann (Mike) Smith of Inman; granddaughter, Alison Cardwell of Leavenworth; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his parents and grandparents.

Cremation has taken place. A Celebration of Life will take place at 11 a.m. Tuesday, June 20, 2023, at the Hutchinson Kennel Club, 131 S. Washington St. South Hutchinson, KS 67505.

Military Honors will be conducted by the United States Navy.

Friends may sign the book 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Saturday and 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday at Elliott Mortuary. &nbsp;

Leonardo “Leo” P. Mendoza, 79, of McPherson, KS, passed away on Monday, June 5, 2023.&nbsp; He was born on August 30, 1943, in&nbsp; Corona, CA, the son of Ramon and Rosario (Puga) Mendoza.&nbsp; Leo graduated from high school in Lake Elsinore, CA in 1961.

On October 14, 1967, Leo was united in marriage to Karen Ann Walline in McPherson.&nbsp; This union was blessed with three children, Kina, Nikki, and Richard.

Leo served in the United States Air Force.&nbsp; For 50 years, he worked for McPherson Concrete Products, retiring as a foreman.

He was a longtime member of Countryside Covenant Church.

Survivors include: his loving wife of 55 years, Karen; three children, Kina Mendoza of Wichita, KS, Nikki Pendlay&nbsp; of Carrollton, TX, and Richard Mendoza (Amanda) of Emporia, KS; four grandchildren, William Pendlay, Alexandria Pendlay, Emma Mendoza, and Daniel Mendoza; a sister, Mary Martinez of Hesperia, CA; and many extended family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents and six siblings, Lupe Romero, Nicholas Mendoza, Bobby Mendoza, Richard Mendoza, Raymond Mendoza, and Alice Salgado.

The funeral service will be held at 10:30 AM, Monday, June 12, 2023, at Countryside Covenant Church with Rev. Jeremy Bower officiating.&nbsp; A graveside service will be held at 1:00 PM, Monday, June 12, at Empire Cemetery, Galva.

Beulah Diane (Bootie) Carey passed away June 5, 2023, at Bethany Home in Lindsborg, KS.&nbsp; She was born June 10, 1947, the daughter of Freda (Decker) and Arthur W. Reichert in McPherson, KS.&nbsp;

Growing up on the family farm southeast of McPherson, she attended Elyria Grade School and McPherson High School, graduating in 1965.&nbsp; She spent her youth helping on the family farm, developing a love of all animals, but horses and dogs especially.&nbsp; Her childhood years were spent in 4-H and playing girls’ sports.&nbsp; She learned at an early age, the 4-H motto, “To make the best, better,” and never forgot it.&nbsp; She was always striving to leave something better than she found it.&nbsp; Many happy years were spent helping area youth in McPherson County 4-H programs including several years as Community Leader for the Livewires 4-H Club.&nbsp; Countless days were spent at the county and state fair readying livestock and other projects for judging.&nbsp;

Marrying in 1967, she became the mother to her only son, Ryon.&nbsp; Her adult years were spent homemaking, working hard on the family farm, volunteering in 4-H and working as a nurses’ aide first at Shiloh Manor in Canton, then Bethesda Home in Goessel, and the final chapter was &nbsp;20 years spent working at Bethany Home in Lindsborg.&nbsp; A Lindsborg resident since 2005, she enjoyed the camaraderie of her fellow employees at Bethany Home, and she adored her time spent as the bath aide on the Elin and P.V. at Bethany Home.&nbsp; She loved her patients like family and made sure none of them, regardless of their circumstances, went without anything that might make them more comfortable.

She continued working at Bethany Home until the COVID-19 pandemic struck, reluctantly retiring in the fall of 2020. Time and the decades of back-breaking work took their toll on her body, and in her later years, she battled heart and kidney disease, which ultimately claimed her life.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her brother, Dennis.&nbsp;

Left to mourn her passing are her only son Ryon Carey (James Baker) of&nbsp; Lindsborg, KS, her beloved sister Agnes Reichert of McPherson, KS, her sister-in-law Linda Meier (Lloyd) of Marion, KS, her grandchildren Tristyn Swanson (Joshua) and their son Bodhi of Lindsborg, KS and Ian Baker of Lawrence, KS, her nephew Justin Reichert (Nicole Grady) of McPherson, KS, her great-nephew Thorin Reichert (Andrea) and their son Waylon of McPherson, KS, and a host of loving cousins and friends.

A visitation/viewing will be held from 12:00 PM &nbsp;until 3:00 PM, Thursday, June 8, 2023, with the family present from 1:00 PM until 3:00 PM, at Stockham Family Funeral Home, McPherson.&nbsp; A graveside service will be held at 10:00 AM, Friday, June 9, at the McPherson Cemetery.&nbsp; A memorial service will be held at 10:30 AM, Saturday, June 10, at Bethany Home Chapel, Lindsborg, with Rev.
