Daniel Penner, 102, passed away Monday, May 15, 2023 at his home. He was born August 20, 1920 in the Orienta/Fairview Oklahoma area. He graduated from Fairview High School. He was a servant of God, a painting contractor, and worked for Consolidated Motors, Hutchinson. He was a charter member of the Medora Community Bible Church, where he was a board member, song leader, and Sunday school teacher. On June 1, 1952, he married Elsie W. Peters. She died July 31, 2018.

Survivors include two sons, Galen (Susan), Inman, and Randy (Tina), Hutchinson and a granddaughter, Torie (Cliffe’) Reynolds, Hutchinson.

He was preceded in death by 5 brothers and 4 sisters.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM Monday, May 22, 2023 at the Medora Community Bible Church. Funeral services will be live streamed on the Inman Funeral Home Facebook Page. Carol June Heisler, 73, of Kingman, died May 13, 2023, at Wesley Medical Center in Wichita. She was born April 1, 1950, in Hutchinson, to Jess A. and Elva P. (Kerns) Bishop.

Carol attended Hutchinson schools. She was a bus driver for Haven and Pretty Prairie schools for many years until retiring in 2019. Carol loved horses, barrel racing, and most of all, spending time with her grandchildren.

On May 20, 2002, she married Mike Heisler in Harrison, Arkansas. He survives.

Also surviving are: her daughters, Amanda Trimmell (fiancé, Larry Divine) of Grove, Oklahoma, Lori Bieker of Salina; grandchildren, Amber Tanner (Zach), Seth Trimmell (Iris), Aubrey Garfolo (John), Haley Trimmell, Dustin Bieker; great-grandchildren, Augustus Tanner, Reed Trimmell, Amelia Tanner, Rylee Trimmell, Arjun Singh Makkar, Andi Tanner; sisters, Connie Constant (Terry), Christine Rounds, both of Hutchinson; and many extended family members.

Carol was preceded in death by: her parents; brother, Wayne Bishop; and niece, Maureen Bishop Dowsey.

Cremation has taken place. A Celebration of Life service will be 2 p.m. Friday, June 9, 2023, at Elliott Chapel. The service will be livestreamed and the link below to view it will be active at 1:45 p.m. the day of the service.&nbsp;

Ronald Louis Marcotte, 79, of Wichita, Kansas passed away on Friday, May 12, 2023. He was born on the family farm in rural Miltonville, Cloud County, Kansas to his parents Ulysses Louis Marcotte and Marjorie (Liby) Marcotte. His years before retirement consisted of being a Heavy equipment Operator and Truck Driver.&nbsp;

He is preceded in death by his parents, his brothers Gary and Larry Marcotte, and his granddaughter-in-law Destiny Green.

Ron is survived by his daughter Christina Marcotte of Wichita, Ks, grandchildren Ron Green of Topeka, Nichole Green Wisniewski of Lawrence, Bernice Green Ibarra and her husband Alex; great grandchildren Quentin Green, Aria Green, Ryan Roach and Patierra Altman; brother Bob Marcotte of Oklahoma City and sister Pam Smith of Abilene, Ks; many nieces, nephews, other family and friends.

Harold Parker Hess, 91, of Maize, Kansas, passed away peacefully on Friday, May 12, 2023.&nbsp; He was born in Croft, Kansas to Jessie Emile Hess and Hazel (Kerr) Hess. He was raised in the Gridley, Kansas area where he attended school and was a graduate of Gridley High School.&nbsp; In 1951 he married his high school sweetheart Aileen in Aliceville, Kansas.&nbsp; In 1958, they moved to Valley Center, Kansas where they raised their family and where he began his career in trucking while he continued his love for farming, both were his devotion and love.&nbsp; For eleven years he drove once a week, 52 trips a year, to California to deliver for the milling company. He also hauled milk from the dairy farms along with produce and many other important items with great importance in our society. Harold then in 1969 bought into Magill Truckline being a great part of operations until they sold in 2015.&nbsp; When he was home from trips he was farming continually.

He was preceded in death by his parents Jessie and Hazel Hess, his brother Dale Hess and his son Edward 'Eddie' Hess.

Harold is survived by his wife Aileen Hess, son Douglas Hess and wife Sherri of Valley Center, daughter-in-law Gaye Hess, grandchildren Justin Hess and Nicole Arnet, great grandchildren Brekyn Hess, Berkli Hess and Lyla Arnet, many nieces, nephews, other family and friends.

Frank Shofler, 78, passed away on Monday the 15th of May, 2023, in Wichita, Kansas.&nbsp;

Husband, father, pilot, veteran, traveler, entrepreneur, volunteer, friend.&nbsp;He was born on the 19th of November 1944 to Albert Otis Shofler and Pearl (Gibbens) Shofler, the oldest of 6 siblings, and spent most of his life living in Wichita.His creativity and entrepreneurial spirit proved that a jack of all trades truly is better than a master of one. Whether he was running a tool shop, a flooring business, remediation, designing and building outdoor furniture, or providing an affordable home for area residents, Frank made time to assist his community and local police department. He has been given accreditations and awards for helping the community and was featured in the Wichita Eagle.

His love for his family was evident in the way his eyes would light up when he was with his children, the way he would brag about their accomplishments, and by communicating the simple but important words, “I love you”. He cherished his role as a family man.

A Navy veteran, Frank served on board a carrier vessel, the U.S.S. Hornet, from 1964-1966, and rose to the rank of Seaman Apprentice. He was accredited 6 years of service in the USNR, proudly receiving two medals: The National Defense Service Medal, and the Vietnam Service Medal.

Traveling was in his veins. He liked to get out into nature, hike, boat, fish, explore old goldmines, visit the national parks in his RV, take his Suzuki off-roading, and visit what is off of the beaten path.&nbsp;His passion, however, was flying. Frank was an accomplished pilot, honorarily included in an elite group that few private pilots have achieved. Frank would participate in missing man flyovers to honor those that had fallen. He flew his family members and buddies over the state border for lunch and back home, pointing out the landmarks below and sharing his knowledge of the plane and instruments. Dead Cow International Airport was always a fun conversation starter. Frank had no problem making friends everywhere he went.

These are mere drops in an ocean about Frank’s life before us and with us. He made many memories, and we are grateful for the ones we had the opportunity to share in creating.

As we bid him farewell, we honor the impact he had on the lives of his loved ones. His love as a father, his passion as a pilot, his entrepreneurial spirit, and his appreciation for the great outdoors will forever be etched in our memories. May his legacy continue to inspire us all to embrace life's joys, follow our dreams, and cherish the bonds that bring us together.

Linda Sonneveldt (80) passed away on Friday, May 12, 2023, in Wichita, Kansas.

She was born in Grand Island, Nebraska to Otho and Blanche Means. She met her husband Peter Sonneveldt at a roller-skating rink in Lincoln, Nebraska and married there in 1965. Linda and Pete moved to St. Louis, Missouri to be near Linda’s sister, Sondra, in 1966. While in St. Louis Linda and Pete had their three children Debbie, Jeff and Julie before moving to Valley Center, Kansas in 1979. Linda worked as a pre-school teacher at the Methodist Church in Valley Center for more than 25 years, retiring in 2006.&nbsp;&nbsp;During this time Linda loved spending time with her family and attending all of her kids’ sporting and school events. When not spending time with family, she also enjoyed reading, crossword puzzles, cross-stitch, knitting and embroidery.

Linda is preceded in death by her parents, Otho and Blanche Means; her brother, Wayne Means, and her spouse, Peter Sonneveldt.

She is survived by her sister, Sondra Mills; her children, Debbie Neuenswander married to Kevin, Jeff Sonneveldt married to Shannon and Julie Boese married to Tim; her grandchildren, Amanda Neuensmith married to Caleb, Kaylin Weltmer married to Chase, Beth Pearson married to Zach, Claire Neuenswander, Ethan Sonneveldt, Emma Boese, Thea Boese and Ava Boese.

Linda (Means) Sonneveldt |2023|

Michael Christopher Rainey Wiebe of Newton, Kansas, was born in Wichita on July 24, 2002, to Sara Hussein Awad and Sam Rainey. Bev Wiebe brought Michael home to Florence, KS, on July 30, and cared for him as his foster parent. In 2003, Bev adopted Michael. She loved her son with unwavering devotion until her life ended on September 14, 2020. 

Michael “Mike” met his untimely, tragic end on the early morning of May 7, 2023, at the age of 20 years and ten months.

From the time he was barely more than a child, Michael loved trains and planes, a love that only became stronger as he grew older. Bev, his mother, occasionally took Michael to the railroad tracks at the edge of Florence, and later to the Newton, KS, Amtrak station in the middle of the night, so that he could see the trains from the east and from the west. 

He was overjoyed when he and Bev finally rode the train themselves. After Bev died, Michael grew to know the engineers and brakemen who stopped in Newton, and he made several trips, east and west, on Amtrak, simply to ride the rails.

Michael’s life was not easy. Through no fault of his own, he suffered with a brain whose signals were often confusing. In spite of this, and even after losing his mother—but with the generous support of his teachers—Michael graduated from Hesston High School in 2021. He confessed his faith in Christ and was baptized in the Good News Christian Fellowship, Marion, Kansas, where he participated actively.

Preceding Michael in death were his grandparents, Art and Ella Wiebe, his beloved mother, Bev Wiebe, and his cousin Lisa, who lived for many years as part of the family with Bev and Michael. Left to mourn are Bev’s dearest friend, Cindy Combs, who cared for Michael before and after Bev’s death; Michael’s aunt Janice Wiebe (Ben) Ollenburger; uncles, Carl (and Marcella) Wiebe, Dale (and Elizabeth) Wiebe, Glenn (and Maura) Wiebe, and Virgil Wiebe (and Susan Schmidt), and nine Wiebe cousins; Sam Rainey, his birth father, and Rainey family siblings, Casey (Cece) Donald, Armonda Rainey, Samuel Rainey, Samantha Rainey, and Jervaughn Rainey.

We grieve, but not as people who have no hope (1 Thessalonians 4:13).

 </figure>Michael Christopher Rainey Wiebe of Newton, Kansas, was born in Wichita on July 24, 2002, to Sara Hussein Awad and Sam Rainey. Bev Wiebe brought Michael home to Florence, KS, on July 30, and cared for him as his foster parent. In 2003, Bev adopted Michael. She loved her son with unwavering devotion until her life ended on September 14, 2020. Michael “Mike” met his untimely, tragic end on the early morning of May 7, 2023, at the age of 20 years and ten months.From the time he was barely more than a child, Michael loved trains and planes, a love that only became stronger as he grew older. Bev, his mother, occasionally took Michael to the railroad tracks at the edge of Florence, and later to the Newton, KS, Amtrak station in the middle of the night, so that he could see the trains from the east and from the west. He was overjoyed when he and Bev finally rode the train themselves. After Bev died, Michael grew to know the engineers and brakemen who stopped in Newton, and he made several trips, east and west, on Amtrak, simply to ride the rails.Michael’s life was not easy. Through no fault of his own, he suffered with a brain whose signals were often confusing. In spite of this, and even after losing his mother—but with the generous support of his teachers—Michael graduated from Hesston High School in 2021. He confessed his faith in Christ and was baptized in the Good News Christian Fellowship, Marion, Kansas, where he participated actively.Preceding Michael in death were his grandparents, Art and Ella Wiebe, his beloved mother, Bev Wiebe, and his cousin Lisa, who lived for many years as part of the family with Bev and Michael. Michael Daniel Scheuerman, 49, died tragically in a vehicle accident on April 25th, 2023. Patricia Dell Olson, 88, died at Hospice House, Hutchinson, on April 25, 2023. She was born December 9, 1934, in Anthony, to Homer and Della (Hockett) Donovan.

Pat graduated from Claflin High School in 1952. She went on to get degrees from Kansas State Teacher’s College, Wichita State, and Emporia State University. Pat taught in several places, including: Burlingame, Garden City, Norton, Haven, and Parsons. She taught French, English, and Spanish. Pat loved to bake and was an avid reader. She also enjoyed sewing, knitting, and quilting. Pat also enjoyed genealogy and would research family history for her and her husband. More than anything she loved to travel and take RV trips with her husband, Everett and their rat terrier, Button.

On October 25, 1974, Pat married Everett Lee Olson, in Garden City. They shared 45 years of marriage before his passing on April 12, 2020.

She is survived by: daughters, Patricia (Frank) Geiger, Erie, Connie (Tom) Ankenman, Hutchinson, and Debbie (Larry) Schiffelbein, Garden City, Diana Brooks, Salem, Oregon; four grandchildren; eight great- grandchildren; and five great-great grandchildren.

Pat was preceded in death by: her parents, husband, and son.

Tommie Ruth Larson, 91, passed away May 2, 2023 at the Sunshine Meadows Retirement Community. She was born January 19, 1932 to Tom M. and Ethel (Lawson) Hooten at their home in Whitehead Township, Oklahoma.

Tommie was raised on her parent's farm in rural Oklahoma, and later took a job at the local phone company where she met her first husband, Charlie Comstock. They were married in 1951 and moved to Hutchinson, KS where Charlie worked at Cessna and Tommie worked for Southwestern Bell as a phone switchboard operator. Charlie died in 1972. Tommie continued to work for the phone company until her retirement in 1981. During that time Tommie met and married Carl Larson of Hutchinson. They were married for 10 years until Carl died in 1983.

Tommie was preceded in death by her parents; her first husband, Charlie; second husband Carl; her brother, JR; and sisters, Peggy, June, and Ola.

Tommie is survived by her step-daughters, Pam (Curt) Gough and Sharon Moore of Pleasant Hill, MO, Beth Larson of Twisp, WA, and Eileen Larson of Lawrence, KS; eleven step-grandchildren, and nine step-great-grandchildren.

After a lengthy battle with lung cancer, on May 10, 2023, Bob passed away peacefully at his home in Nickerson, KS; surrounded by his children and grandchildren.

Bob was born May 18, 1948, in Kinsley, Kansas, to Robert E. and Vera L (McKinney) Blair Sr. He grew up in Greensburg, KS where he graduated from High School in 1968.

On July 5, 1970, Bob married Janet Beckham and to that union they had two children, Becky and Jeannie.

In 1973 he moved to Hutchinson, Kansas and began working at Cessna, on the paint line. He continued to work there even when the company transitioned to Eaton. After some time, he moved from the paint line to the shipping and receiving department where he worked until his retirement in 2013.

He spent 42 years with his partner, Terri Blair. They were married on December 21, 1996. She passed away December 15, 2022.

He had many passions in life, including his love for animals, especially chickens and cats. He loved to garden and preserve the food he grew. 

After retirement he began trying his hand at cooking and became quite a cook. He was also a very avid reader; he enjoyed books of all genres. 

Woodworking also used to be something he enjoyed doing to pass the time. In his younger years he enjoyed riding motorcycles.

Bob is survived by his children, Becky Mead of Spivey, Kansas; Rusty Burbank (Denice) of Hutchinson, KS; Starla Rhoton (Brady) of Kiowa, Kansas.

Bernice ‘Bea’ Katherine Reed, 79, passed away May 6, 2023, at her home.&nbsp;&nbsp;She was born May 17, 1943, in Hutchinson, KS, to Verner E. Briggs and Ethel Mary (Hester) Briggs.

Bea began working at F.W. Woolworth Department Store.&nbsp;&nbsp;Shortly thereafter, she married Joseph M. Reed, Sr., during her sophomore year of high school.&nbsp;&nbsp;They shared over 48 years of marriage, prior to his death on January 5, 2009.&nbsp;&nbsp;Bea then went to work in maintenance at Carey Salt Company.&nbsp;&nbsp;Her next position was as a certified nurse’s aide (CNA) at Mennonite Friendship Communities.&nbsp;&nbsp;While working, Bea began taking evening classes in order to become a certified nurse’s aide (CNA) and a certified medical assistant (CMA).&nbsp;&nbsp;After obtaining her CNA and CMA licenses, she opened her own business and retired when the last of her patients passed away.

Bernice ‘Bea’ Katherine Reed |1943-2023|

Janet Gail (Epperson) Nichols, 79, passed away peacefully at her home in Lenexa, Kansas on Monday, May 8, 2023.

Janet was born on August 10, 1943, in Reno County, Kansas as the oldest of two daughters to Galen and Parkalene (Coffey) Epperson. She graduated from Partridge High School in Partridge, Kansas. She received her Bachelor of Science in Education from the Emporia State Teachers College with an emphasis in Home Economics, and her Master of Science in Education from the University of Kansas. She began her teaching career at Wyandotte High School in Kansas City, Kansas, where she met the love of her life, her husband Charlie. Janet and Charlie were married on December 27, 1967, and enjoyed a very long, happy, loving marriage until her death.

The majority of Janet's teaching career was spent in Family and Consumer Sciences, taking great joy in teaching sewing and cooking to both junior and senior high school students at Wyandotte High School in Kansas City, Kansas and Hillcrest Junior High School/Westridge Middle School in Overland Park, Kansas. She also served as a school counselor at Central Junior High School in Kansas City, Kansas. She retired from teaching in 1998.

Throughout her life, she took great joy in her family and many friends. Her creativity and exceptional culinary skills made every holiday and family dinner an event to remember. Her amazingly positive outlook brought happiness and joy to everyone she met. Her strength through adversity served as an inspiration to her family and friends.

When she was diagnosed with Sjogren's Syndrome, very little was known about the disease and little to no resources were available to patients. She spearheaded the efforts to develop the Greater KC Sjogren's Syndrome Support Network, bringing in physicians and other medical professionals to monthly meetings to educate and inform not only Sjogren's patients but their families as well.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Galen and Parkalene Epperson and her stepmother, Vada Epperson Lewis.

 </figure>Janet Gail (Epperson) Nichols, 79, passed away peacefully at her home in Lenexa, Kansas on Monday, May 8, 2023.Janet was born on August 10, 1943, in Reno County, Kansas as the oldest of two daughters to Galen and Parkalene (Coffey) Epperson. She graduated from Partridge High School in Partridge, Kansas. She received her Bachelor of Science in Education from the Emporia State Teachers College with an emphasis in Home Economics, and her Master of Science in Education from the University of Kansas. She began her teaching career at Wyandotte High School in Kansas City, Kansas, where she met the love of her life, her husband Charlie. Janet and Charlie were married on December 27, 1967, and enjoyed a very long, happy, loving marriage until her death.The majority of Janet's teaching career was spent in Family and Consumer Sciences, taking great joy in teaching sewing and cooking to both junior and senior high school students at Wyandotte High School in Kansas City, Kansas and Hillcrest Junior High School/Westridge Middle School in Overland Park, Kansas. She also served as a school counselor at Central Junior High School in Kansas City, Kansas. She retired from teaching in 1998.Throughout her life, she took great joy in her family and many friends. Her creativity and exceptional culinary skills made every holiday and family dinner an event to remember. Her amazingly positive outlook brought happiness and joy to everyone she met. Her strength through adversity served as an inspiration to her family and friends.When she was diagnosed with Sjogren's Syndrome, very little was known about the disease and little to no resources were available to patients. She spearheaded the efforts to develop the Greater KC Sjogren's Syndrome Support Network, bringing in physicians and other medical professionals to monthly meetings to educate and inform not only Sjogren's patients but their families as well.She is preceded in death by her parents, Galen and Parkalene Epperson and her stepmother, Vada Epperson Lewis.She is survived by her husband, Charles Nichols of the home, her children Karen (Terry) McAbee of Olathe, KS and Matthew (Enki) Nichols of Lone Tree, CO, and grandchildren Michael McAbee, Kansas City, MO, Christopher McAbee, Phoenix, AZ, Jacob Nichols, Seattle, WA, Julia Nichols, Emilie Clements, Erin Clements, Lone Tree, CO., sister Patti (Steve) Yust, Sylvia, KS, nephew, Rob (Jen) Tope, Iva, S.C., two nieces, Shelly (Mike) Todd, Baldwin City, Ks and Sheri (Terry) Van Buren, Hutchinson, KS and great nieces &amp; nephews.Services will be held at Porter Funeral Home in Lenexa on Saturday, May 13 at 2:00 p.m. Visitation will be immediately prior from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m.

LaVena Kay Kidd, 82, passed away Sunday April 23, 2023, at Salem Home in Hillsboro.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 

LaVena was born May 8th, 1940, in El Dorado, Kansas, the daughter of Jesse and Mary (Tyndall) Chisman. She grew up in Augusta, where her father was for many years the town's shoe cobbler. She attended Augusta schools and graduated from Augusta High School in 1958, then attended El Dorado Junior College (now Butler Community College) where she studied nursing.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 

On August 21, 1960, she married Lester Edward Kidd, who she met in Topeka where at the time she was continuing her nurse's training, at First Southern Baptist Church in Augusta. He preceded her in death January 23, 2023. They established their first home in Salina, where Ed at the time was serving in the Kansas Army National Guard. All three of their children were born in Salina, where the family resided until 1969 when they moved to Lawrence.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 

A McPherson resident since 1973, she was a homemaker and artist, also working as a magazine racker for MS News for many years. One of her designs was used as the button for the 2012 McPherson County All Schools Day Celebration and is included in the All Schools Day courtyard at the McPherson Community Building.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 

She was also a long-time member of MENSA, and did a variety of art work that was published in regional, national and international publications.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 

LaVena is survived by two sons, Lucky and Patrick, and one daughter, Elizabeth Hedberg, all of McPherson, along with three grandchildren and one great-grandchild. She was preceded in death by her husband, parents and a sister, Jolene Palmer.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 

A graveside service for both, LaVena and Lester, will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, May 21, 2023, at the Smoky Hill Cemetery near Lindsborg.&nbsp; Rev. Lynn Scott will officiate the service.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;

Susan Leone Guinn, age 69, passed away on May 6th, 2023 in her home in Wichita, Kansas. She was born in Chillicothe, Missouri to William L. Shale and Hertha E. (Albright) Shale. She was a resident of Wichita, Kansas since 1983. She attended schools in Chillicothe, Missouri, where she graduated from Chillicothe High School, in 1973. After graduating, she married Ronnie Taube, and remained married to him until their divorce, in 1980.

Susan worked as a ward secretary, physician's secretary and a medical coder at the Wichita Veterans Administration until 2000, when she took an early retirement. She loved cats, and had many of them, over the years, along with several dogs. She loved fishing and camping, and she made ceramics for several years.&nbsp; She was a sweet, loving person, who will be remembered fondly, and with love, by everyone she touched.

She is preceded in death by her grandmother, Glennie Albright; her father, William L Shale; her mother, Hertha E. Shale; and sister, Helen Shale, who died shortly after birth.

Although she never gave birth to any children of her own, she helped her husband, Dennis P. Guinn, raise his two teenage boys, into manhood, and they regarded her as a mother, a friend, and a confidant.

Susan is survived by her husband, Dennis; sons Jeremy Thomas Guinn; Shane Michael Guinn; grandsons Forestt Patrick Guinn; Evan Michael Guinn and his wife, Laura; Noah Thomas Guinn; Jackson Slade Guinn; and great grand daughter, Lucy Sue Guinn.

Vernon Wier Norton, 77, passed away May 9, 2023, at Hospice House, Hutchinson, KS.&nbsp;&nbsp;He was born December 6, 1945, in Eye, England, to Kenneth W. Norton and Netta (Jolly) Norton.

Vernon was a graduate of Kermit High School, Kermit, TX, and earned an Associate Degree in Law Enforcement from Seward County Community College, Liberal, KS.&nbsp;&nbsp;He served in the United States Navy from April 1965 to November 1968.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;

On July 4, 1970, Vernon married Rosemary E. Lucas, in Denver, CO.&nbsp;&nbsp;They shared over 52 years of marriage.

He is survived by:&nbsp;&nbsp;his wife, Rosemary Norton of Hutchinson, KS; children, Vikki (Christopher) Mader of Nickerson, KS, and Brenton (Lindsay) Norton of Katy, TX; grandchildren, Kalie Mader, Brandy (Rex) Farmer, Jacob (fiancée Kadie Smith) Mader, Sophie Mader, Luke Norton, and Blake Norton; and brother, John Norton of Kermit, TX.

Gary Calvin Johanning, 69, of Nickerson, died May 9, 2023, at his home. He was born November 3, 1953, in Hutchinson, to Victor and Marceline (McAllister) Johanning.

Gary graduated from Nickerson High School. He worked at Consolidated Manufacturing and Reno County Public Works before retirement. Gary enjoyed farming, fishing, gardening, and most importantly, spending time with his family.

On June 1, 2018, he married Merlu Grace Relles. She survives.

Also surviving are: his son, Chad Johanning (Cori); grandson, Evan Johanning (Amanda); siblings, Jerry Johanning (Andrea), Teri Johanning; nephews, JJ Johanning, Austin Johanning, Mark Beshears; niece, Madison Johanning; and many other extended family members.

Gary was preceded in death by: his parents; brother, Curtis; nephew, Dustin Beshears.

Funeral service will be 1 p.m. Friday, May 12, 2023, at St. Teresa Catholic Church, 211 E 5th&nbsp;Ave., Hutchinson. Burial will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery.

Doris Lee Kimmel, 94, died May 8, 2023, at Pleasant Hills, Hutchinson.&nbsp;&nbsp;She was born December 7, 1928, in Oskaloosa, KS, to Charles Earl and Imo Odessa (Cottrell) Johnson.

Doris graduated from Oskaloosa High School and Kansas State University with her bachelor’s degree in Home Economics.&nbsp;&nbsp;She was raised on the family farm, learning the value of hard work and dedication.

&nbsp;Doris was an avid lap swimmer, swimming every morning at 6:00am at the YMCA. She enjoyed working in her yard, flower beds and rose garden.

Since 1962, Doris was a member of First Presbyterian Church, Hutchinson. She was a deacon, elder and taught Sunday school. Early Chapel service was her joy.

On February 14, 1947, she married W.D. “Bill” Kimmel, in Oskaloosa.&nbsp;&nbsp;He died April 27, 2004, after sharing 57 years of marriage.

Doris is survived by:&nbsp;&nbsp;sons, Dave Kimmel (Mary Kay) of Colorado Springs, CO, and Tedd Kimmel (Julie) of Hutchinson; and four grandchildren, Chris Kimmel (Jenn), Wesley Kimmel (Sara), Katie Kimmel, and Anna Kimmel.

She was preceded in death by:&nbsp;&nbsp;her parents; infant son, Thomas Robert Kimmel; grandson, William David “Will” Kimmel; and a brother, Wilbur Johnson.

Claudia Faye Hawthorne, 79, passed away May 4, 2023 at her home in South Hutchinson, KS. She was born September 17, 1943 in Newton, KS, the daughter George Payne and Lou Brown. Claudia owned her own custodial business in Hutchinson and worked for Republic Group where she retired after more than 25 years. She enjoyed playing the piano and was a song writer. She was a member of Macedonia Missionary Baptist Church where she played the piano for 12 years. Claudia also attended and was a member of McGee Chapel Church of God in Christ in Hutchinson. Claudia owned her own custodial business in Hutchinson and worked for Republic Group where she retired after more than 25 years. She enjoyed playing the piano and was a song writer. She was a member of Macedonia Missionary Baptist Church where she played the piano for 12 years. Claudia also attended and was a member of McGee Chapel Church of God in Christ in Hutchinson. Keith Aaron Wright, 83, of Hutchinson, died May 6, 2023, at Prairie Sunset Home, Pretty Prairie. He was born October 21, 1939, in Dodge City, to James Henry and Jessie Mae (Schofield) Wright.

Keith graduated from Cheyenne County High School, St. Francis, KS, in 1958. He also graduated from Wichita Business College.

From 1960 to 1968, Keith worked as an accountant at Embee- Hammond in Wichita. Then from 1968 to 1995, he worked for Kansas Gas Service and Westar Energy in Hutchinson.

Music was a large part of Keith’s life. He enjoyed singing, and he could play most any string instrument, with the guitar being his favorite. Keith loved to play all types of music- from rock and roll to gospel to country music on his guitar. In addition, he could also play the bass drum and trumpet. Keith was an avid KU basketball fan and a faithful member of First Congregational Church, Hutchinson.

On June 2, 1962, he married Judith “Judy” Dianne Odil, in Wichita.

Keith is survived by: his loving wife, Judy Wright; son, James “Jim” Wright; granddaughter, Bridget Wright; great-grandson, Joshua Kuhr; brother, David (Jenny) Wright; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by: his parents; three sisters; two brothers; and parent-in-laws.

Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Thursday, May 11, 2023, at First Congregational Church, 3410 N. Plum St. Hutchinson, with Pastor Matt Stafford officiating. Burial will follow in Fairlawn Burial Park, Hutchinson.

Friends may call from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m., with family present from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Wednesday, May 10, 2023, at Elliott Mortuary.

Frances L. Pauls passed away peacefully and went to her heavenly home at the age of 97, on Sunday, May 7, 2023, at Harvest House, Pleasant View Home, in Inman, Kansas.

Frances was born on January 6, 1926, to Isaac D. Dirks and Marie (Janzen) Dirks. She grew up south of Buhler, attended Willow Grove Grade School and graduated from Buhler High School. Frances trusted Christ as her Savior and was baptized at Finamore Lake southeast of Buhler.

On October 24, 1944, Frances was united in marriage to John R. Pauls of Inman. They had 4 children and enjoyed 58 wonderful years together. Frances enjoyed gardening, canning, sewing, and preparing wonderful meals. She loved flowers and would plant big flower gardens. They enjoyed traveling together, and spending time with family and friends.

Frances was a member of Zoar Mennonite Brethren Church, Inman. Frances and her husband, John R., were both active in church and served in various compacities. They participated in the Prison Ministries M-2 Program. They also provided a Sunday morning church service at several different care facilities in McPherson once a month, along with several other couples from Zoar Church. It was important to both her and Dad, to see their children and grandchildren walking with the Lord. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She was dearly loved and will be missed.

Frances is survived by a daughter, Judy (Brian) Gallagher of Inman; a son, Mark (Miriam) Pauls of Inman; and son-in-law, Steve Hunt of Oregon; eight grandchildren; Matt (Lori) Gallagher, Shawn Gallagher, Patrick (Miranda) Gallagher, Aaron (Marla) Pauls, Andy (Tiffani) Pauls, Jenae (Adam) Suderman, David (Prema) Hunt, Jonathan Hunt, 15 great grandchildren; and a brother-in-law, Daniel (Kathy) Pauls.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband John R. Pauls, a daughter, Lorene Hunt, a son, Keith Pauls; three brothers and three sisters-in-law, Richard (LaVera) Dirks, Victor (Evelyn) Dirks, and Harvey (Ramona) Dirks; a sister, Evelyn Doerksen; and two brothers-in-law, John Pankratz and Martin Doerksen.

A private family burial has taken place at Zoar Cemetery. A memorial service will be held at 4 p.m. Friday, May 12, 2023, at Zoar Mennonite Brethren Church, Inman. Donald Glenn White, 60, died May 2, 2023, at his residence in Hutchinson. He was born August 18, 1962, in Du Quoin, IL, to Arthur Leon and Betty Jane (Wantland) White.

Donald graduated from Hutchinson High School in 1981. He worked as a cook for Prairie Dunes Country Club.
