Helen Alice Voth Bertrand (86) died June 15,2023 in North Newton, Kansas. 

 Helen was born June 8, 1937 in Daming, China to missionary parents William C. and Matilda Kliewer Voth. She joined older siblings Stanley, Leland and Maurine. Helen’s early life was one of near constant motion. 

 In the first two years of her life her family relocated several times within China due to the presence of Japanese forces. The family returned to the United States on furlough in 1939. Over the war years and into the 1950s, Helen lived in several Kansas towns as William taught, pastored and travelled for the Mennonite Mission Board, while the family hoped to return to the people and work they had left in Daming. 

In 1951, Helen accompanied her parents to Japan.  After three years of high school in three cities, Osaka, Miyazaki and Kobe, Helen returned to the United States where she reunited with her brothers as she attended Freeman Academy and Freeman Junior College. 

 In 1959 she graduated from Bethel College and then spent a year earning teaching credentials. Instead of teaching she worked for a year at Prairie View Hospital as a psychiatric aide.  These early years laid Helen’s foundation of faith and her love of people.

In 1961, Helen married Helmut Bertrand. Over the next couple of years, Helen worked in libraries in Newton and Manhattan, KS as they started their family.  After a year in New Jersey the family moved to Regina, Saskatchewan where Helen worked at the Regina Public Library in the children’s department, the Luther College Library, the Saskatchewan Department of Education and Grace Mennonite Church. 

 Her time based in Regina was enhanced by a year living in Munich, Germany and traveling through Europe, as well as a year completing her Masters of Library Science in Emporia, Kansas.   While in Regina, she also nourished a lifelong love of the preforming arts with participation in choirs, volunteering with the Regina Symphony program committee, season tickets to the symphony and several theatre companies, and taking up ballroom dancing in her 50s.

In 1999, Helen decided to return to Kansas where she could be closer to family.  She worked for 5 years at the Moundridge Public Library and filled her spare time with the Bethel College Mennonite Church vocal and bell choirs, Newton Community Chorale, dance classes and travel.  Following retirement, she added volunteer work at the Mennonite Library and Archives, Kauffman Museum, and Book Reviews to her busy schedule.

Helen loved her Mennonite faith, books, travel, the performing arts and people.  A master at remembering people and events, she delighted in meeting new people and figuring out how they connected to others in her life.  As Parkinson’s disease took her ability to enjoy books, she became a fixture on the sidewalks of North Newton.  To the end of her life, she delighted in getting outside to see the flowers and birds and meeting other people on her walks. Thank you to the people who watched over Helen on her perambulations.

Helen’s family is particularly grateful to the entire staff of Kidron Bethel Village where Helen received support, care, and love for so many years. She was blessed to have Rita, Sherry, Maggie and all the nurses, CMAs, CNAs and dining room staff on North Hall watching over her for the last 4 years of her life.  The grace they extended to Helen and her family enriched both her life and theirs.

Helen is survived by her family, Karen Bertrand, Brian, Keith and Paul Adler, Keith, Jill, Jack and Alex Bertrand, Helmut Bertrand and Leland Voth. 

A memorial service is being planned for a future date.  Memorials may be shared with Bethel College, Bethel College Mennonite Church or Kidron Bethel Village.

Diana L. Lyons, 69, of Hutchinson, died June 17, 2023, at Ascension Via Christi St. Francis, Wichita. She was born February 6, 1954, in Garden City, to Chester W. ‘Bud’ and Erma Joyce (Giesaking) Marker.

Diana graduated from Garden City High School in 1972. She also graduated from Brown Mackie College. She worked for Integrated Solutions Group, as an accounting administrator for almost 41 years.

In Diana’s younger years, she enjoyed horseback riding and barrel racing. Diana liked to shop. She had a passion for decorating her home for the holidays, but especially for Christmas. There had to be a decorated Christmas tree in every room. Faith and family were the two most important things in Diana’s life. She loved spending time with her family and watching her grandson, Julian, play baseball. Diana was a loving and devoted wife, mother, and grandmother. She was a long-time member of Our Redeemer Lutheran Church, Hutchinson.

On June 19, 1976, she married Ralph A. Lyons in Garden City. They shared over 46 years of marriage, prior to her death.

Diana is survived by: husband, Ralph Lyons of Hutchinson; son, Ty Lyons of Hutchinson; daughter, Tara Lyons of Hutchinson; grandson, Julian Lyons of Hutchinson; brothers, Jeff (Roxanna) Marker of Hutchinson, and John (Michelle) Marker of Land O’ Lakes, FL; and numerous nieces, nephews, and other extended family members.

She was preceded in death by: her parents; sister, Vickie Elsey; brother, Rodney Marker; and brother-in-law, Virgil Elsey.

Memorial service will be 10 a.m. Thursday, June 29, 2023, at Our Redeemer Lutheran Church, Hutchinson, with Pastor Quentin Nuttmann officiating. Burial will follow in Eastside Cemetery, Hutchinson. Friends may sign the book from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Saturday, and from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. on Sunday, at Elliott Mortuary.

George Washington Sullivan IV, 58, of McPherson, KS, passed away peacefully on Saturday, June 17, 2023, at Mercy Hospital, Moundridge.&nbsp; George was a United States Army veteran and supervisor at Ferguson Production in McPherson.

George was born on January 21, 1965, in Ayer, MA, the son of George Washington Sullivan, III and Gloria Eileen (Solomon) Sullivan.&nbsp; He graduated high school in California.&nbsp;&nbsp; On May 5, 2008, George was united in marriage to DeAnna “De” Kay (McCormick) Vogts in Canton, KS.&nbsp; She preceded him in death on July 26, 2017.&nbsp;

George was passionate about dogs, and dogs could sense his love and would always gravitate to wherever he was.&nbsp; When younger, he had two dogs of his own.&nbsp; &nbsp;He collected comic books and sports memorabilia including baseball and football cards. Playing board games and going to car races were enjoyed with family.&nbsp; He had a generous spirit and would give the shirt off his back to help others in need and would give everyone the benefit of the doubt.

Survivors include: his mother, Gloria Neal of North Newton, KS; a brother, Dale Grant of Wichita, KS; two nephews, Christopher Sullivan and Justin Sullivan, both of Russell, KS; and several aunts, uncles, and extended family members.

He was preceded in death by his father, wife, and a brother, Thomas Sullivan.

George Washington Sullivan IV |1965-2023|

Orville Duane Dennis, 85, died June 17, 2023, at his home in Hutchinson. He was born May 16, 1938, in a farm house in Clay County, Hayes Township KS, to Frank Hudson and Viola Marie (Marsh) Dennis.

Orville attended a little one room school for a year and a half, then he transferred to Green Grade School until graduating from 8th grade. Later on, while serving in the military, Orville earned his GED and an associates’ degree in law enforcement. &nbsp;

At the young age of 17, Orville enlisted in the United States Army, on January 11, 1956. He was an infantry soldier for almost four years. He changed to artillery in 1959 while stationed in Berlin, Germany. In the following years, Orville was also stationed at Fort Sill in Oklahoma, Camp Chaffee in Arkansas, Fort Riley in Kansas, South Korea and Vietnam. He was also a recruiter for the U.S. Army for three years before his retirement. Orville served his country for 20 years and 20 days.

Orville was a hard worker and a very honest man. His wife, Joanne, called him ‘Mr. Wonderful’ because he was a wonderful man, generous and would help out anybody who needed help. Orville also loved to travel all around the U.S. in his camper with Joanne and his loving service dog, Rain. &nbsp;&nbsp;

While stationed in Berlin, he met a German girl named Erika Ingeburg, and they were married in April, 1958 and they shared 58 years of marriage before her death in July, 2016. On Valentine’s Day of 2018, he met Joanne Marshall Campbell and they were married September 5, 2018, at Emmanuel Lutheran Church, in Hutchinson.

Orville is survived by: his wife, Joanne Dennis of Hutchinson; children, Frank Dennis of Oregon and Rosemary Willems of Hutchinson; stepchildren, Joe Marshall of Texas, Mark Marshall of Texas, Angie Hobbs of Nevada, and Matthew Marshall of Texas; grandchildren, Shanna Yoder, Kate Vance, Jeff Willems, Johnathan Dennis, and Corbin Dennis; 12 great-grandchildren; and his best friend and service dog, Rain of Hutchinson.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister.

Per Orville’s wishes, cremation has taken place. Memorial service will be 1 p.m. Thursday, June 29, 2023, at Elliott Chapel with Military Honors conducted by Fort Riley Honor Guard. Private inurnment will take place at Kansas Veteran’s Cemetery, Manhattan. Friends may sign the memorial book from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Saturday and 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. on Sunday at Elliott Mortuary.

Mary (Kinney) Crowdes, 85, of Marquette, KS and formerly of Windom, KS, passed away on Monday, June 19, 2023, at Paramount in Newton, KS.&nbsp; She was born on April 2, 1938, in Lyons, KS, the daughter of Claud Kinney and Alberta (Weese) Kinney.&nbsp; She grew up in Windom and graduated from Windom High School.&nbsp; She was May queen in 1956.

Mary worked as a cook for Windom Grade School and also worked at Riverview Estates in Marquette where she retired from.&nbsp; She enjoyed gardening, and she found a love for painting China pieces during her retirement years.&nbsp; She also collected just about every knick knack that she could.&nbsp; Mary was also known for her baking skills and always had some cookies baked for anyone who came and visited her.

Survivors include: her husband, Harold Crowdes of Little River, KS; sister, Marilyn (Gary) Holler of McPherson, KS; sons, Rick John of Pineville, LA, Mike (Teresa) John of Ft. Worth, TX, Clint John of Moundridge, KS, Larry (Tracy) John of Marquette, KS, Tim John of Oskaloosa, KS; a daughter, Melanie John of Roxbury, KS; 12 grandchildren; and 20 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents and a sister, Claudine Babcock.

A private family graveside ceremony will be at a later date.

William Leslie “Bill” Strawn, 61, of Hutchinson, died June 15, 2023, at his home. He was born October 13, 1961, in Hutchinson, to Howard L. and Nancy A. (Kirkbride) Strawn.

Bill graduated from Tribune High School in 1980. He was the owner and operator of Strawn Garage in Kinsley for over 30 years before returning to Hutchinson. He enjoyed woodworking in his younger days, gardening, cooking and making beef jerky. &nbsp;Bill’s favorite pastime was hanging out at Table Rock Lake.

On May 12, 1984, he married Janet Lynn Vannahmen. They later divorced.

Bill is survived by: his sons, Nick Strawn (Haley Bond) of Ellsworth, Kevin Strawn of Kinsley; siblings, Jim Strawn (Jacque), Dave Strawn (Debbie), Sue Jones (Jim), Tina Woolley (Terran) all of Hutchinson; and many extended family members.

Cremation has taken place. Memorial service will be 2 p.m. Friday, June 23, 2023, at Elliott Chapel. Friends may sign his memorial book from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday-Thursday at Elliott Mortuary.

Fred Ellis Lutz, 80, formerly of Perryton, TX, died June 11, 2023, at Research Hospital in Kansas City, MO. He was born July 28, 1942, in Ellsworth, to Fredrick E. and Lucille (Harmon) Lutz.

Fred graduated from Ellsworth High School in 1960. He served in the United States Navy from 1960-1963. Fred served as a “Boilerman” on the USS Yorktown CVS-10. Fred constantly shared memories of his time in the South Pacific. He worked as a senior technician for ExxonMobil in Perryton from 1964 until retiring in 2002. Fred moved to Kansas in 2021 to be nearer to family.

He enjoyed nice automobiles - at one time owning a couple Ford Galaxy 500’s and a 1964 ½ Mustang. Fred enjoyed hunting and collecting firearms. He always enjoyed building things, from woodworking to improving his home and property. &nbsp;Fred was a member of American Legion Harry P. Stumpf Post #254 in Perryton and was a life member of the National Rifle Association. He was of the Christian faith.

Fred is survived by: his nieces, Vicky Bonilla (Rod) of Salina, Chris Casteal (Fred) of Carrollton, TX, nephew, Bobby Lutz (Sue) of Hutchinson; niece, Kathleen Carter (Gregory) of Hutchinson; nephew, Steve Lutz (Shari) of Nickerson; sister-in-law, Lupe Lutz of Hutchinson; several great-nieces and nephews; and several other extended family members.

He was preceded in death by his parents and brothers, George and Robert.

Fred Ellis Lutz |1942-2023|

Donald Joseph “Don” Murray, 86, of Nickerson, died June 13, 2023, at his home. He was born August 21, 1936, in Mound Valley, to Joseph S. and Eunice O. (Traxson) Murray.

Don graduated from Nickerson High School. He became a certified electrician and owned his own business in Johnson before moving to Colorado Springs, CO, and working on nuclear power plants. Don helped in the construction of the NORAD facility there. He became Head Supervisor of Support Services of Harrison School District 2 in Colorado Springs in 1985 until he retired in 1998.

Taking early retirement, Don dedicated himself to assisting his wife, Abby, to live an independent life with her progressing MS. They traveled in a bus he personally converted to meet her needs and were camping ambassadors for Good Sam and Family Motor Coach Association. Don also served on the board of directors of KSDS Inc., an organization breeding, training, and placing service dogs nationwide to help people with disabilities live independently.

He was a 60-year member of IBEW Local #113, which awarded him positions throughout the lower 48 states. This gave him the ability to be with Abby during her treatments and yet continue to work.

Don enjoyed many happy times at the Kansas State Fairgrounds, where his grandfather lived and was caretaker. He spent days riding his bike and being Granddad’s right-hand man. Don later volunteered as a gatekeeper at the Kansas State Fair for 25 years. He also volunteered for the U.S. Naval Reserves during the Korean War, and in the NICU of a Colorado hospital rocking babies to sleep.

Don was a member of the Masonic Lodge and of the Christian faith.

On October 23, 1955, he married Abby Mae Smith, in Hutchinson. She died September 27, 2014. On February 18, 2021, Don married Mary M. Miller in Texas. She survives.

Also surviving are: his children, Donnel Clay (Ken) of Clonmel, Doug Murray (Susie) of Wakita, OK; grandchildren, Aaron Clay (Abby), Matt Clay (Krysten); great-grandsons, Malachi, Merrick, and Macklin Clay; siblings, Berna Mae Smith of Colorado Springs, CO, Harley Murray (Elaine) of Ajo, AZ, Carol Hewgley of Corpus Christi, TX; and many extended family members.

Don was preceded in death by: his parents; brothers, Michael and Ellis; brothers-in-law, Ted Smith and Jim Hewgley.

Cremation has taken place. There will be a “Gathering of Memories” for family and friends from 2-4 p.m. Saturday, July 29, 2023, at the 4H Encampment Building on the Kansas State Fairgrounds. Burial will be in Ritchland Cemetery near Coffeyville where his parents and many other family members are buried.

Friends may sign his memorial book from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday thru Saturday at Elliott Mortuary.

Way graduated from Salina High School and worked as an insurance salesman and at Gregory, Inc. &nbsp;He was one of a kind with his magnetic personality. &nbsp;Way enjoyed playing Santa Claus for the holidays and singing with his wife, Becky, all throughout Kansas. Above all, Way’s faith and family were his greatest priorities. &nbsp;Way was a member of&nbsp;Journey@South&nbsp;Hutchinson, where he was known for his “Jesus Joy”. &nbsp;In addition, he loved his family unconditionally, and spread his love to the foster children he and his wife took care of in their home.&nbsp;

On June 5, 1964, he married Rebecca “Becky” Thomas, in Kingman. &nbsp;They recently celebrated 59 years of marriage.

Dorothy Mae Odle, 93, of Wichita, Kansas passed away on Friday, June 16, 2023 after a long illness at Homestead Health Center in Wichita.&nbsp; Dorothy was born in Kansas City, Missouri on December 16, 1929 to Clyde and Madeline (Smith) Crawford.

She&nbsp; is survived by her husband of 75 years, Richard, daughter Nita (John) Ward, son Calvin Odle, grandson Nathaniel (Mari) Odle, granddaughter Whitney (Jon) Leipzig and 5 great grandchildren. Also sisters Joan Thrash, Denise Matz, Debbie (Joe) Bowman, brother Ron (Sherry) Holwick, sister-in-law Pat Barnes, brother-in-law Elden (Eleanor) Odle, plus lots of nieces and nephews, other family and friends.

She was preceded in death by her son Wesley Odle, mother Madeline Holwick and father Clyde Crawford.

A Graveside Service will be held at the Fairview Cemetery in Phillipsburg, Kansas where she will be interred.

Wanda L Koehn 84, died Saturday, June 17, 2023 at Wesley Medical Center. She was born &nbsp;August 5, 1938 to Reuben and Della (Nightingale) Koehn. &nbsp;On August 31, 1958 she married Leonard Koehn in Halstead, Kansas and he preceded her in death in September of 1977. &nbsp;

Wanda was a member of the Eden Church of God in Christ, Mennonite in Rural Burns, Kansas. &nbsp;She was a loving wife and mother and also cooked at the nursing home in Florence. &nbsp;She enjoyed traveling and looked forward to her coffee groups. &nbsp;Wanda also loved being a grandma and great grandma and following her families activities.

She is survived by three sons: Rodney (Carloyn) Darrel (Carol) and Lonnie (Brenna) She is also survived by her brother Jim Koehn 3 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren. &nbsp;

She is preceded in death by her parents and husband

Wanda L Koehn |1938-2023|

Brett Whitenack, 60, of McPherson, KS, passed away peacefully after a short battle with cancer on Sunday, June 18, 2023, surrounded by family at Ascension Via Christi-St. Francis RMC, Wichita.&nbsp; Brett worked full time as a Curator and Director of Daily Operations for the McPherson Museum since 1997.

Brett was born on February 22, 1963, in Wichita, KS, the son of William “Bill” H. and Ina Jane (Berry) Whitenack.&nbsp; Brett graduated from McPherson High School in 1981 and later furthered his education at McPherson College, graduating in 2009, with degrees in Biology and Philosophy/Religion.

On November 26, 1983, Brett was united in marriage to Jeanne Horn in McPherson, KS.&nbsp; This union was blessed with two children, Jake and Bethany.

Since 1980, he was a member of the McPherson Gem &amp; Mineral Club and currently was the web master and historian. He was the Vice President of the Kansas Academy of Science. He attained membership to the Honor Society of the Tri-Beta Biological Science Iota Chapter in 2008.&nbsp; He worked with 4-H Clubs by attending rock field trips and gave talks about rocks and fossils to the schools and clubs around the McPherson area. For many years, he led tours at the McPherson Museum for school kids. &nbsp;&nbsp;Brett received the Burkholder Research Award from McPherson College for outstanding achievement in student research in the Natural Sciences.

Survivors include: his loving wife of 39 years, Jeanne of the home; a son, Jake (Sarah) Whitenack of McPherson, KS; a daughter, Bethany (Josh) Flemming of Lawrence, KS; three grandchildren, Curtis Landrum, Cali Whitenack, and Crew Whitenack, all of McPherson, KS; his father, Bill Whitenack of Shawnee, KS; a brother, Stuart (Jeannie) Whitenack of Olathe, KS; sister-in-law, Julie (Bob) Feurer; brothers-in-law, Alan (Bonnie) Horn and Tim Horn; nieces &amp; nephews, Olivia Whitenack, Cade, Courtney &amp; Bram Feurer, Erin &amp; Brandon Van Burkleo, Andrea Horn, Kelsey Horn, Seth Horn, Adam Horn, and Kyle Horn; and many loving cousins and their families and many, many friends.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Jane Whitenack.

A memorial service will be held at 2:00 PM, Saturday, July 8, 2023, at the McPherson Museum with Rev. Kathryn Whitacre officiating.&nbsp; The final resting place will be at the Monticello Cemetery in Shawnee, KS.

 </figure>Brett Whitenack, 60, of McPherson, KS, passed away peacefully after a short battle with cancer on Sunday, June 18, 2023, surrounded by family at Ascension Via Christi-St. Francis RMC, Wichita.&nbsp; Brett worked full time as a Curator and Director of Daily Operations for the McPherson Museum since 1997.Brett was born on February 22, 1963, in Wichita, KS, the son of William “Bill” H. and Ina Jane (Berry) Whitenack.&nbsp; Brett graduated from McPherson High School in 1981 and later furthered his education at McPherson College, graduating in 2009, with degrees in Biology and Philosophy/Religion.On November 26, 1983, Brett was united in marriage to Jeanne Horn in McPherson, KS.&nbsp; This union was blessed with two children, Jake and Bethany.Since 1980, he was a member of the McPherson Gem &amp; Mineral Club and currently was the web master and historian. He was the Vice President of the Kansas Academy of Science. He attained membership to the Honor Society of the Tri-Beta Biological Science Iota Chapter in 2008.&nbsp; He worked with 4-H Clubs by attending rock field trips and gave talks about rocks and fossils to the schools and clubs around the McPherson area. For many years, he led tours at the McPherson Museum for school kids. &nbsp;&nbsp;Brett received the Burkholder Research Award from McPherson College for outstanding achievement in student research in the Natural Sciences.Survivors include: his loving wife of 39 years, Jeanne of the home; a son, Jake (Sarah) Whitenack of McPherson, KS; a daughter, Bethany (Josh) Flemming of Lawrence, KS; three grandchildren, Curtis Landrum, Cali Whitenack, and Crew Whitenack, all of McPherson, KS; his father, Bill Whitenack of Shawnee, KS; a brother, Stuart (Jeannie) Whitenack of Olathe, KS; sister-in-law, Julie (Bob) Feurer; brothers-in-law, Alan (Bonnie) Horn and Tim Horn; nieces &amp; nephews, Olivia Whitenack, Cade, Courtney &amp; Bram Feurer, Erin &amp; Brandon Van Burkleo, Andrea Horn, Kelsey Horn, Seth Horn, Adam Horn, and Kyle Horn; and many loving cousins and their families and many, many friends.He was preceded in death by his mother, Jane Whitenack.A memorial service will be held at 2:00 PM, Saturday, July 8, 2023, at the McPherson Museum with Rev. Harriett ‘Gail’ Wolfe, 79, of Hutchinson, died June 12, 2023, at Diversicare of Hutchinson. She was born June 22, 1943, in Evansville, IN, to Julius Elmore and Anna (Fox) Scherzinger.&nbsp;

Gail graduated high school in New Harmony, IN. From a young age, she loved watching semi trucks pass by her small school house. When Gail grew up, she went to Los Angeles, CA, to become an over the road truck driver. She enjoyed driving trucks all over the United States.&nbsp;

Gail would spend her time reading science fiction novels and singing. She liked to listen to classical music. Gail loved to sing church hymns; she even recorded two of her own CDs. Gail adored cats; she would often call herself the ‘crazy cat lady.’ She was very funny. Gail had a collection of witty expressions that she would use. For example, if someone called her by ‘Harriett’ she would say to them, “I will take you to fist city.” Gail also loved the Colorado mountains.

She was a member of Calvary Chapel, Hutchinson.

On March 13, 1981, she married Merlyn Dean Wolfe in Las Vegas, NV. They shared over 36 years before his passing on August 6, 2017.

Gail is survived by: three step-daughters, Traci (Dennis) Board, Michelle (Jerry) Edson, and Shelly (Ed) Meza; sister-in-law, Patsy Scherzinger; nephew, Richard J. and Julie Scherzinger Jr. of Purcellville, VA; 6 grandchildren, one great niece and one great nephew.

She was preceded in death by: her parents; husband; her three children, James ‘Jimmie’ Woodrow Hise, Elizabeth Anna Hise, and Christine Estell Hise; and brother, Richard J. Scherzinger Sr.&nbsp;

Memorial service will be 11:00 a.m. Saturday, June 24, 2023, at Calvary Chapel, 1400 N. Adams St., Hutchinson, KS 67501, with Pastor Luke Helmuth officiating. A private family burial will take place in Buhler Municipal East Cemetery.

Born on August 16, 1935, in Kansas City, KS, to Will and Edna (Welker) Farris, Pat graduated high school in Argentine, KS. She then worked for more than 30 years as a secretary.

Quilting, friends, family, golden retrievers, apple pie and her beloved Kansas City Chiefs all occupied both her time and her passion.

She was also a member of New Covenant Presbyterian Church in Hutchinson.

In 1984, Pat married Stan Simpson in Monterrey, CA. They shared 37 years of marriage before he passed away on February 28, 2021.

She is survived by sons: Warren Bridges of Hutchinson and Wesley Bridges of Lee Summit, MO; two granddaughters; two grandsons; four step children: Glory Spikes, Stana Geier (John), Tammy McElhinney and Jeff Simpson; eight step grandchildren; nine step great-grandchildren; two nieces; and one nephew. She is also survived by her beloved golden, Chloe.

Pat was preceded in death by her parents; husband; sister, Jackie Bonura; and a granddaughter, Annie Bridges.

Cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be announced at a later date.

Loreta E Landis 90, died June 15, 2023 at Chisolm Place in Wichita, She was born September 4, 1932 in Newton, Kansas to Orla B and Grace V (Shanklin) Miller. On September 14, 1951 she married Jack L. Bartley in Newton, Kansas and he preceded her in death in 1979. &nbsp;She later married William F "Bill" Landis on June 10, 1983 he survives of the home.

Loreta was a 1950 graduate of Newton High School. She was a loving wife, mother and homemaker.

In her younger years Loreta could often be found water skiing on area lakes and enjoying weekends with friends and family at the lake. &nbsp;She enjoyed flying with her husband Bill and made it a point to love each day the Lord gave her.

She is survived by her husband Bill; sons Vernon and Donald Bartley and several grandchildren and great grandchildren that she adored.

Loreta is preceded in death by her parents and husband Jack Bartley.

Graveside committal service will be 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, June 20, 2023 at Restlawn Gardens of Memory in Newton, with The Reverend Charles Claycomb presiding.

Thomas Smith Hymer, 80, died June 15, 2023, at his home. &nbsp;He was born November 24, 1942, in Omaha, NE, to Glenn Wade Hymer and Wilma Ruth (Smith) Hymer.

Thomas was a 1961 graduate of Benson High School, Omaha, NE. &nbsp;He was the owner of the shoe store located in the Pegues Department Store, Hutchinson, KS, and shoe stores located in Wichita, KS, and Salina, KS, for nine years. &nbsp;He then became the store manager at the Pegues Department Store for several years, and then retired as the account manager for Verizon Wireless (formerly Alltel).

Thomas was involved with the Big Brothers Big Sisters of Reno County and was a State Ombudsman. &nbsp;He was a member of the Hutchinson AMBUCS, Knights of Columbus, and Church of the Holy Cross, Hutchinson, KS.&nbsp; Thomas participated in the dental mission trips to Honduras, Costa Rica, and Ecuador.

He enjoyed learning new things and woodworking. &nbsp;Thomas learned to speak Spanish in his 60s. &nbsp;He was an accomplished and nationally ranked chess player and continued to play chess well into his alzheimer’s diagnosis. &nbsp;Thomas loved spending time with his grandchildren and family.

On April 26, 1964, he married Virginia Lynn Karohl, in Sioux City, IA. &nbsp;They shared over 59 years of marriage.

Thomas is survived by: &nbsp;his wife, Virginia Hymer of Hutchinson, KS; son, David Hymer of Overland Park, KS; grandchildren, Azarah (Michael Biery) Eells, Allison Eells, Jacobsen Eells, McLain Hymer, and Mallory Hymer; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by: &nbsp;his parents; daughter, Dianne Eells; and brother, Harvey Hymer and wife, Bebee.

William R. “Bill” Toews, 79, of McPherson, KS, passed away on Thursday, June 15, 2023.&nbsp; Bill was born to Jacob and Helen (Rosenfeld) Toews in Steinbach, Manitoba, Canada on June 21, 1943. He was the oldest of two sons.&nbsp; He grew up on a poultry farm in Steinbach and worked on the family farm while in school. Bill was baptized on June 2, 1963 and joined the Steinbach Mennonite Church.

He attended elementary and high school in Steinbach. After high school, he worked with the Manitoba Highways Department for a number of years. He then went to Tabor College in Hillsboro, Kansas and graduated there in 1972 with a B.A., later graduating from the University of Oklahoma in 1974 with a MSW. Bill worked in Kansas as a social worker in the communities of Newton, Chanute, Independence and McPherson for 35 years.&nbsp; Bill was a member of a number of professional organizations through employment as a social worker in Kansas.

On Feb.5, 1972, Bill married Dayle Funk from Hillsboro, Kansas.&nbsp;They have two sons, Eric and David, and it was discovered they had an intellectual disability due to Fragile X Syndrome.&nbsp; Bill, Dayle, Eric, and David moved to McPherson, Kansas in 1984 where they joined the First Mennonite Church, and have been active members there. Bill has been the Church Treasurer,&nbsp;Deacon, a&nbsp;member of the Kansas Mennonite Men's Chorus, and has volunteered at the MCC sale, the ReUselt Center, and Special Olympics activities.

Bill was preceded in death by his parents, Jacob and Helen Toews.

Surviving family members include: his wife, Dayle; his sons, Eric William Toews and David Paul Toews, a brother, Arnold Toews and wife, BettyLou; nephews, Jarod, Michael, and Adam; a niece, Katelyn; and many other relatives and friends.

Betty Ann Fagerquist, 86, of McPherson, KS, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, June 14, 2023, at The Cedars, McPherson.&nbsp;

Betty was born on May 10, 1937, in Owensboro, KY, the daughter of Lee Roy and Ardena (Coin) Coombs.&nbsp; She graduated from Owensboro High School.

On August 23, 1957, Betty was united in marriage to Robert “Bob” Lowell Fagerquist.&nbsp; Bob preceded her in death after 65 years of marriage on July 14, 2022.&nbsp; Betty and Bob were blessed with three daughters, Lori, Amy, and Krista.&nbsp;

Survivors include: two daughters, Lori (Jeff) McCoy of Cave Creek, AZ and Krista Wenski of St. Louis, MO; two grandchildren, Ashton William Robert McCoy of Cave Creek, AZ and Cohen Elyse Wenski of St. Louis, MO; five nephews, Keith Everhart of Canton, KS, Wayne (Cheryl) Everhart of Canton, KS, Kevin (Chandra) Stauffer of Wichita, KS, Mark (Kim) Stauffer of Wichita, KS, and Brian (Angie) Stauffer of Salina, KS; and many extended family and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; daughter, Amy Fagerquist; sister &amp; brother-in-law, Thelma “Tim” &amp; Dwight Everhart; and sister-in-law &amp; brother-in-law, Marilyn &amp; Jim Stauffer.&nbsp;

 </figure>Betty Ann Fagerquist, 86, of McPherson, KS, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, June 14, 2023, at The Cedars, McPherson.&nbsp;Betty was born on May 10, 1937, in Owensboro, KY, the daughter of Lee Roy and Ardena (Coin) Coombs.&nbsp; She graduated from Owensboro High School.On August 23, 1957, Betty was united in marriage to Robert “Bob” Lowell Fagerquist.&nbsp; Bob preceded her in death after 65 years of marriage on July 14, 2022.&nbsp; Betty and Bob were blessed with three daughters, Lori, Amy, and Krista.&nbsp;Survivors include: two daughters, Lori (Jeff) McCoy of Cave Creek, AZ and Krista Wenski of St. Louis, MO; two grandchildren, Ashton William Robert McCoy of Cave Creek, AZ and Cohen Elyse Wenski of St. Louis, MO; five nephews, Keith Everhart of Canton, KS, Wayne (Cheryl) Everhart of Canton, KS, Kevin (Chandra) Stauffer of Wichita, KS, Mark (Kim) Stauffer of Wichita, KS, and Brian (Angie) Stauffer of Salina, KS; and many extended family and friends.She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; daughter, Amy Fagerquist; sister &amp; brother-in-law, Thelma “Tim” &amp; Dwight Everhart; and sister-in-law &amp; brother-in-law, Marilyn &amp; Jim Stauffer.&nbsp;A visitation/viewing will be held from 10:00 AM until 11:00 AM, Monday, July 3, 2023, at Stockham Family Funeral Home with a graveside service to follow at 11:30 AM, Monday, at McPherson Cemetery with Rev. Colleen Joan (Vsetecka) Sharp, 68, formerly of McPherson, KS and Ellinwood, KS, passed away Friday, June 9, 2023, surrounded by family in Hesston, KS.

Colleen was born on October 22, 1954, in Great Bend, KS, the daughter of William and Dolores (Suchy) Vsetecka.&nbsp; She graduated from Great Bend High School and attended Brown Mackie College.&nbsp; Colleen married the love of her life, Rick Joe Sharp, in 1975 and had three children.&nbsp; She held various jobs including Wal-Mart in Great Bend for ten years until retirement.&nbsp; Colleen loved gathering with family, writing letters, reading, listening to her vinyl music collection, enjoying car rides and caring for her pets.&nbsp;

Survivors include a daughter, Melissa (Tony) Segovia of McPherson, KS; sons, Jeremy Sharp of LaCrosse, WI and Nicholas (Maureen) Sharp of McPherson, KS; grandchildren, Sheridan, Declan, Kameron and Lawson; brother, Craig Vsetecka of Great Bend, KS; and several nieces and nephews.&nbsp;

Preceding her in death were her parents; her husband of 42 years, Rick; and siblings, Morris Vsetecka and Pamela Vsetecka.

A private memorial service will be held at a later date.&nbsp; There will be no visitation as cremation has taken place.

Robert Michael Witt, 75, of Larned, passed away June 7th in Wichita. He was born July 5th, 1947, to Eula and Elsie (Crow) Witt. He attended school in Cunningham and graduated high school in 1965. He attended Wichita State University and graduated in 1969.

He was a recruiter for the Army National Guard and then worked at Larned Correctional Facility retiring in 2010.

He is survived by his wife Sherry of Larned Kansas, Sister Carolyn &amp; Frank Briscoe of Camdenton MO, son John &amp; Nancy Witt of Alexander Kansas son Brian &amp; Terry Witt of Winlock WA, daughter Theresa &amp; Kevin Newsome of Great Bend Kansas, daughter Bridgette &amp; John Thomas of Pawnee Rock Kansas, son Darin &amp; Susan Lohr of Larned Kansas, 11 grandchildren, and 11 great grandchildren.
