SOUTH HUTCHINSON, Kan. – The Kansas Master Naturalist (KMN) Volunteer Training Program is now taking applications&nbsp;for the 2025 class, hosted by K-State Research &amp; Extension – Reno County. The mission of KMN is to develop&nbsp;knowledgeable &amp; dedicated citizens who are active in promoting awareness, understanding &amp; stewardship of the&nbsp;natural heritage of Kansas.

The KMN training course provides more than 40 hours of classroom and hands-on instruction in natural resource&nbsp;concepts. The 2025 class sessions will be held Tuesday afternoons, February 18 through April 22, along with an all-day&nbsp;field trip on Saturday, April 5. Classes will be held in Reno County and surrounding locations. A one-time fee of $100 to participate in the training covers handouts, a reference notebook, and class expenses. In exchange for the training,&nbsp;participants are required to return a minimum of 30 hours of volunteer service on environmental projects in their communities. 

Training class subjects include: • Ecology • Geology • Soils&nbsp; • Weather and Climate&nbsp; • Plants • Birds&nbsp; • Insects • Mammals • Fish • Ecosystem Management&nbsp; • Education and Interpretation&nbsp;

Previous and current Master Naturalist volunteer projects include riverbank restoration, guided hikes, park restoration,&nbsp;hiking trail maintenance, stream surveys, tree inventory, aiding in Citizen Science research, and teaching adult and youth&nbsp;environmental education programs.

The Nurse Scheduler position is responsible for creating and overseeing the nursing schedule.

-Maintains nursing staff schedule consistent with staffing model -Contacts staff to fill open spots as needed in a positive and fair manner -Inputs and maintains schedule into Paycom -Assists with PBJ report/reviews for accuracy -Manages PTO requests based on guidelines provided by supervisor -Creates an atmosphere of team-building while providing guidance as needed to nursing staff related to scheduling guidelines -Works closely with nursing supervisors, Administrator, and DON to ensure appropriate staffing is planned for census and acuity

-Must have full knowledge of computers and the ability to prepare reports -Must be highly organized, detail-oriented, and have strong time-management skills -Must be able to communicate effectively with a diverse group of people -Must have the ability to work independently with little supervision

RUSH COUNTY –&nbsp;The Rush County Sheriff’s Office requested the Kansas Bureau of Investigation (KBI) issue a statewide Silver Alert for a woman who was last seen in Rush County, Kansas, according to a media release from the KBI.

The whereabouts of 79-year-old Marilyn Jo Spangenburg, of Hutchinson, are unknown and the public’s assistance is requested to help locate her.

Spangenburg was last seen at a residence in Bison, Kansas in Rush County, on Saturday, April 13 around 4 p.m. She was driving a 2008 silver Toyota Camry bearing Kansas disabled plate 54971. A family member’s vehicle was running, and Spangenburg drove away without the key fob in the vehicle, so it will not start again once it stops. Her direction of travel is unknown, however, she may attempt to travel to Great Bend or Hutchinson.

Spangenburg is a white female who is 5 feet 5 inches tall and weighs 217 pounds. She has grey hair and blue eyes. She has schizophrenia and dementia.
