HUTCHINSON, Kan. — Reno County Emergency Medical Services will offer parents and caregivers an opportunity to make sure their children's car seats are properly installed during a free Car Seat Check Lane later this month.

The event will be held Wednesday, Oct. 28, from 3 to 7 p.m. at Reno County EMS Station 2, 211 W. Fifth St. in Hutchinson.

Certified child passenger safety technicians will be available to inspect car seats and help families determine whether seats are installed correctly and properly fit both the child and vehicle.

Technicians can also answer questions about child passenger safety and provide guidance as children grow and transition to different types of car seats. Assistance will be available for both new and used car seats.

Organizers say proper installation can make a significant difference in keeping children safe while traveling.

Parents and caregivers attending the event should bring their vehicle and the car seat or seats they want inspected. They are also encouraged to bring the car seat manual, if available, and the children who use the seats when possible. Having the child present allows technicians to conduct a proper fit check.

The event is part of Reno County EMS's effort to improve child passenger safety and help families understand how to correctly use car seats for children of different ages and sizes.

No appointment information was listed for the event. The Car Seat Check Lane will run from 3 to 7 p.m. Oct. 28 at Reno County EMS Station 2 in Hutchinson.
