The Hutchinson Community College volleyball team fell in straight sets to the No. 7-ranked Colby Trojans on Wednesday night at the Sports Arena.

The Blue Dragons lost 25-19, 25-20, 25-17 in a KJCCC matchup.

The Blue Dragons fell to 5-5 overall and 1-2 in the KJCCC. The Blue Dragons are home against Garden City at 6 p.m. on Saturday at the Sports Arena. Colby improved to 9-2 overall and 3-0 in conference play.

Sophomores&nbsp;<a href="https://bluedragonsports.com/sports/wvball/2025-26/bios/mcneil_jaylynn_8662">Jaylynn McNeill</a>&nbsp;and&nbsp;<a href="https://bluedragonsports.com/sports/wvball/2025-26/bios/proctor_atlyn_jzx3">Atlyn Proctor</a>&nbsp;led the Blue Dragons with seven kills each against Colby.

McNeill hit .227 on 22 attacks and had a season-high five block assists. Proctor hit .028 on 36 attacks.&nbsp;<a href="https://bluedragonsports.com/sports/wvball/2025-26/bios/villanueva_alondra_w1k3">Alondra Villanueva</a>&nbsp;had five kills on 19 swings.

The Blue Dragons hit .031 for the match on 24 kills. Colby hit .170 with 36 kills. The Blue Dragons out-blocked the Trojans 8-4. Colby had 13 service aces to Hutchinson's five and out-dug the Blue Dragons 46-43.

Sorielys Dominguez had two service aces for the Blue Dragons. Libero&nbsp;<a href="https://bluedragonsports.com/sports/wvball/2025-26/bios/oliveira_clara_34tl">Clara Oliveira</a>&nbsp;had a team-high 12 digs.&nbsp;<a href="https://bluedragonsports.com/sports/wvball/2025-26/bios/follmer_kierny_j8x3">Kierny Follmer</a>&nbsp;and Mattie Gallaher had four block assists each.

SET 1: Neither team had great offensive numbers in the opening set – Colby hit .121 and sided out at 47 percent. The Blue Dragons hit a -.081 and sided out at 36 percent. Colby had five service aces in the first set to the Dragons' 3. Tied at 4-all, Colby went on a 4-0 run. A Trojan attack error pulled the Blue Dragons within 11-10. Back-to-back Hutchinson errors upped the Colby lead to 16-11 and the Dragons took a timeout. Proctor had three-straight kills to pull within 17-15 and a Colby hitting error got the Dragons within 18-17. Colby closed out the set with a 7-2 run.

SET 2: The Blue Dragons trailed 6-3 early in the second set and fought back to tie the set at 10-all on a Villanueva kill. McNeill followed with a kill to give the Dragons their first lead of the match at 11-10 and the Hutchinson lead grew to 15-12 after a Colby hitting error. The Trojans then reeled off six unanswered points to take an 18-15 lead. At 18-16, a Dragon error started what turned into a 7-4 run to close out the set for Colby. The Dragons had 11 kills to Colby's 10 in the set, but the Trojans tacked on four more aces.

SET 3: Colby had its best offensive set of the match, hitting .216 in the third set. Hutchinson hit only .062. Tied at 4-all, Colby scored on 6 of the next 9 rallies to build a 10-7 lead. The Dragons stayed within striking distance and pulled within 16-14 after a&nbsp;<a href="https://bluedragonsports.com/sports/wvball/2025-26/bios/williamson_mckenzye_wur2">McKenzye Williamson</a>&nbsp;ace serve. 🏐 Blue Dragons fall in straight sets to No. 7 Trojans

Marvin Edward Green, 91 1/2, was born on March 1, 1934, to Kenneth Edward and Ruth Alma (Reasoner) Green, at his grandparent’s home in Hill City, Kansas. He passed away peacefully at Legend of Hutchinson Senior Living in Hutchinson, KS, on September 6, 2025.

As a young boy, Marvin moved with his family to Downs, KS, where he graduated from high school in 1952. Although he seldom spoke of it, he was an athlete at Downs, and later played semi-pro baseball, as shortstop. After graduation, he attended the College of Emporia, intent on teaching. Sometime during his senior year, he determined teaching was not for him and left without graduating. Subsequent army service was cut short by a car accident in 1961, which resulted in the loss of his left eye. He was honorably discharged in 1962.

He married Joy Ellen Morrison on November 30, 1968. Together they raised two sons, Richard Joseph (RJ) of Edwardsville, KS, and Scott Hayden. Scott preceded him in death in 1993 as did Joy in 2004.

On December 6, 2009, Marvin married Lana Jo Sibley in Gardner, KS. She survives as do RJ, and two brothers, Allan of Ottawa, KS, and Larry (Nancy) of Salina, KS. He is also survived by a granddaughter, Holly R. Ross, of Belton, MO, and two Great Grandchildren. Also surviving are stepdaughter Jamie Baker (Jeremy) of Hutchinson, KS, and two step grandchildren.

Marvin and Joy lived in Spring Hill, KS, for many years, raising cattle on the farm in Johnson County. He also worked for several different enterprises in the Spring Hill area before becoming an owner of an Air Freight business. He retired at 70 and sold the farm in 2008.

He and Lana made their home in Paola until earlier this year when they relocated to Hutchinson.

A Celebration of Life will be held at&nbsp; Bruce Funeral Home in Spring Hill on September 22, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. Care has been entrusted to Hutchinson Funeral Chapel, Hutchinson, KS.&nbsp;

Barbara J. Keefer, 89, died September 7, 2025, at Hospice House, Hutchinson. &nbsp;She was born July 11, 1936, in McPherson, to Delbert F. and Luella (Buehler) Wilkinson. &nbsp;

Barbara graduated from McPherson High School in 1954, and received her degree in nursing from Fort Scott Community College. She worked as a as a registered nurse in Hutchinson before staying home full-time after the birth of her son, David. &nbsp;Barbara enjoyed working in her immaculate yard and tending to her flowers. &nbsp;As a natural born caregiver, she was always ready and willing to help out her family and friends. &nbsp;Above all, family meant everything to Barbara. &nbsp;She was a member of P.E.O. and First Presbyterian Church, Hutchinson.

On April 4, 1959, she married Kenneth A. Keefer, in Hutchinson. &nbsp;He died January 19, 2019, after they shared almost 60 years of marriage.

Barbara is survived by: &nbsp;son, David Keefer (Susan) of Shawnee; grandchildren, Thialan Logan, Grace Keefer, Emma Keefer, Cameron Keefer, and Anna Keefer; great-grandchildren, Josie Raya, T.J. Logan, and Nia Logan; sister-in-law, Connie Bula (Mick); and nieces and nephews, B.J. Jennings, Ann Jennings, Bob Jennings, Brad Swisher, and Drew Swisher.

She was preceded in death by: &nbsp;her parents; stepfather, Royal Sipe; daughter, Krista A. Williams; and a sister, Donna Jennings.

Private inurnment will be held in Memorial Park Cemetery, Hutchinson. &nbsp;Friends may sign her book and view photos and memorabilia from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Saturday, September 27, 2025, and 1:00 to 5:00 p.m. Sunday, September 28, 2025, at Elliott Mortuary.

After career highs for yards passing and touchdown passes, Hutchinson Community College sophomore quarterback&nbsp;<a href="https://bluedragonsports.com/sports/fball/2025-26/bios/johnson_christian_b2h0">Christian Johnson</a>&nbsp;was named the KJCCC Football Offensive Player of the Week on Tuesday.

The 5-foot-11, 206-pound sophomore from Montgomery, Alabama, led the No. 1-ranked Blue Dragons to a 76-8 triumph on Saturday at New Mexico Military.

Johnson completed 77.8 percent of his passes and tied a Hutchinson Blue Dragon Opening-Day record with five touchdown passes against New Mexico Military. Johnson completed 14 of 18 passes for a career-high 237 yards and threw touchdown passes of 62, 14, 18, 22 and 24 yards. Johnson played only one series into the third quarter.

Johnson also rushed for 42 yards on only six carries to help the Blue Dragons roll up 545 yards in the season opener.

This is Johnson's first career KJCCC Player of the Week award.

The Hutchinson Sports Arena and Stringer Fine Arts Center parking lots are currently full, though fairgoers can continue to check for openings as spaces become available.&nbsp;

Additional parking is now open at two off-site locations: the southwest corner of the Hutchinson Uptown Mall near Hutchinson Vintage Market, and the east lot of Bold 3PL at 1529 East 17th Avenue.&nbsp;

Shuttle service to the Fairgrounds will run from these lots until 10 p.m., with all drop-offs at Gate 9 on Plum Street. Officials caution visitors not to wait until the last shuttle to arrive, as the final bus will leave promptly at 10 p.m.&nbsp;

Hutchinson Community College charter and Dragon buses are covering the Uptown Mall route, while a separate HCC charter bus is serving the Bold 3PL lot. The Durham School Bus will continue to operate the Sports Arena route only. Longer wait times are expected with the extended routes.&nbsp;

Handicapped parking remains available near Gate 5 on State Fair Road and Gate 9 on Plum Street with proper placards displayed.&nbsp;

Fair officials thank the public for their patience and cooperation.&nbsp;

Following heavy rainfall on the Kansas State Fairgrounds, the Kansas State Fair has announced that all on-grounds parking lots are closed until further notice, with the exception of handicapped parking near Gate 5 on State Fair Road.

Alternate Parking: Guests may park on the west side of the Hutchinson Sports Arena, 700 E. 11th Hutchinson, beginning at 7:30 a.m. on Tuesday, September 9.

Shuttle Service: Starting at 7:30 a.m. on Tuesday, September 9 buses will run approximately every 15 minutes, transporting patrons to and from the Fairgrounds with drop-off and pick-up at Gate 9 on Plum Street.

Handicapped Parking: Parking near Gate 5 on State Fair Road will remain available for handicapped guests only. Guest must display their handicapped placard in order to park in this area.

Will Call: The Will Call office at Lot C on Plum Street will remain open and accessible.

“The recent rainfall has made our on-grounds parking lots unsafe and unusable,” said Bryan Schulz, Kansas State Fair General Manager. “We are grateful to local partners including the City of Hutchinson and Hutchinson Community College for providing alternate parking solutions, and we appreciate our guests’ flexibility and patience in using the shuttle services.”

Kansas State Fair parking lots will remain closed for the next 48 hours, at which time conditions will be reassessed.

For the third-straight season, the No. 1 Blue Dragons will meet the No. 2 Reivers in a No. 1 vs. No. 2 matchup. Kickoff for the Blue Dragons'2025 home opener is at Noon Saturday at Gowans Stadium. The game will be nationally televised by ESPN+.

The Blue Dragons forced a school-record eight takeaways in a 76-8 season-opening win last Saturday at New Mexico Military. The victory was head coach Drew Dallas' 50th win at Hutchinson.

The Blue Dragons extend their program record for longest consecutive weeks in the national poll with to 51 weeks. The Dragons have been ranked in the top three of the NJCAA Rankings for 45 consecutive polls and have been ranked No. 1 in 40 of the 70 polls released in the Drew Dallas era.

Saturday's game will be fifth time the Blue Dragons will play in a No. 1 vs. No. 2 matchup and it will be the third time the Blue Dragons and Reivers match up in a No. 1 vs. No. 2 showdown.

Hutchinson defeated No. 12 Trinity Valley 2-1 on August 25 for their first nationally ranked home matchup. The Dragons scored the game-winning goal from&nbsp;<a href="https://www.bluedragonsports.com/sports/wsoc/2025-26/bios/smith_poppy_opqw">Poppy Smith</a>&nbsp;with 12.2 seconds remaining in the game.

Wednesday's game will be a rematch of the 2024 Region 6 Tournament championship game where Cowley earned a birth to the national tournament with a 4-2 win in penalty kicks after the game was played to a 2-2 draw through regulation and overtime.

The Blue Dragons enter play on Wednesday 3-0. The Dragons defeated Wichita United 4-0 last Thursday in a scrimmage. Before that scrimmage, the Dragons last played on August 31, a 4-0 at NOC-Enid.

⚽ Dragons remain No. 12 in latest poll

PRATT – The Hutchinson Community College volleyball team earned its first KJCCC victory of the season with a road sweep of the Pratt Beavers on Monday night at the Beaverdome.

Sophomore&nbsp;<a href="https://www.bluedragonsports.com/sports/wvball/2025-26/bios/proctor_atlyn_jzx3">Atlyn Proctor</a>&nbsp;had a match-high 16 kills and ignited a key first-set surge as the Blue Dragons defeated the Beavers 25-18, 25-22, 25-20, extending their winning streak over Pratt to 31-consecutive matches.

The Blue Dragons (5-4, 1-1 KJCCC) will play host to No. 7-ranked Colby at 6 p.m. on Wednesday at the Hutchinson Sports Arena.

Proctor led the Blue Dragons with 16 kills on 30 swings for a .367 hitting percentage. She also had a key solo block in a 9-2 surge to close the opening set.

Sophomore&nbsp;<a href="https://www.bluedragonsports.com/sports/wvball/2025-26/bios/villanueva_alondra_w1k3">Alondra Villanueva</a>&nbsp;had 11 kills on 23 attacks for a .217 attack percentage.&nbsp;<a href="https://www.bluedragonsports.com/sports/wvball/2025-26/bios/mcneil_jaylynn_8662">Jaylynn McNeill</a>&nbsp;and&nbsp;<a href="https://www.bluedragonsports.com/sports/wvball/2025-26/bios/follmer_kierny_j8x3">Kierny Follmer</a>&nbsp;had six kills each.

The Blue Dragons hit .258 for the match, out-hitting Pratt 47-25. Pratt out-blocked Hutchinson 8-2. The Dragons had nine service aces to Pratt's six.

Freshman setter&nbsp;<a href="https://www.bluedragonsports.com/sports/wvball/2025-26/bios/garcia_alexandra_ev7s">Alexandra Garcia</a>&nbsp;had 38 assists four digs and had three kills on four attacks.

Betty L. Laney, 97, died September 7, 2025, in Hutchinson, KS. &nbsp;She was born September 24, 1927, at her grandmother's house in Stafford, KS, to Fred and Lula Wright Hornbaker.

Betty’s family lived in Stafford County before moving to a farm near Sylvia, KS, in 1935. &nbsp;She graduated from Sylvia High School and then attended two years at Abilene Christian College, Abilene, TX, before transferring to Kansas State University, where she earned her Bachelor of Science degree.

In 1951, Betty married the late Richard Brenner and moved to Hutchinson. They had four children. &nbsp;She became very active in many organizations including her children’s activities, the Kansas State Alumni Association Reno County Catbackers, AAUW, Civitan, Big Brothers/Big Sisters, and Interfaith Housing. She was a member of Crossroads Christian Church. &nbsp;In 1973, Betty got her real estate license working as a realtor for 33 years, helping and enjoying many people. &nbsp;In 1975, she met Bill Laney. They married in 1980. &nbsp;She enjoyed following Kansas State football teams to Bowl games, working in her yard with flowers, gardening, and bird watching. &nbsp;She enjoyed playing golf and duplicate bridge.

Betty is survived by: &nbsp;daughters, Donna Brenner of Hutchinson and Lori (David) Martinez of Peculiar, MO; sons, Paul (Vicky) Brenner of Marietta, GA and Scott Brenner of Westminster, CO; granddaughters, Sydney and Shelby Martinez and Isabella Brenner; stepdaughters, Ann (Gene) Mueller of Vail, AZ, Jill (Tim) Rogers of San Marcos, TX; and Sue Mercado of New Braunfels, TX; five step-grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and a brother, Don Hornbaker of St. John.

She was preceded in death by her parents and husband Bill.

Private inurnment of Bill and Betty will be in Peace Creek Cemetery, rural Stafford County. &nbsp;Cremation has taken place.

Kenneth Leo Wilson, a lifelong resident of Hutchinson, KS passed away after a sudden illness on September 6, 2025, in Hutchinson at the age of 85.

Born on July 19, 1940, in Hutchinson to R. Bruce Wilson and Edith Starr Wilson. Kenneth graduated from Nickerson High School in 1958. He went on to attend Hutchinson Community College for two years before answering the call to serve his country. In 1963, Kenneth joined the United States Army, service three years of active duty followed by three years in the reserves. He was honorably discharged in 1969. Following his military service, he furthered his education at Adela Hale Business Career School, where he met Shirley Byrns. They were united in marriage on December 1, 1968.

In 1966, Kenneth began a long and dedicated career with Kansas Power and Light. Over the course of more than 35 years, he built a reputation for hard work and commitment before retiring.&nbsp;

In the late 1970s, Kenneth discovered a passion that would define much of his retirement-raising and showing rabbits. This hobby became a cherished part of his life as her traveled across the country participating in rabbit shows. His grandchildren affectionately call him “Papa with the bunnies,” a nickname that captured both his gentle spirit and devotion to family.

Kenneth was a devoted member of Our Redeemer Lutheran Church, Hutchinson, and found great joy in both his faith and his family. He shared 56 loving years of marriage with his wife Shirley, who survived him at their home. He is also survived by their children: Darin Wilson of the Home; James (Jenn) Wilson of South Hutchinson, Kansas; and Matt (Amy) Wilsom on Miami, Oklahoma. His legacy continues through his grandchildren Kalub Wilson and Ashlee Wilson of Miami, Oklahoma.

Kenneth is also survived by his brother Clarence Wilson of Lawrence, Kansas; sister Roseanne Wilson of Topeka, Kansas; and stepsister Elaine (John) Cloyd of Hutchinson, Kansas. He leaves behind numerous extended family members and friends who were touched by his presence.&nbsp;

He was preceded in death by his father R. Bruce Wilson; mother Edith Starr Wilson; stepmother Wilma Wilson; stepbrother Dale Sturgeon; and stepsister Judy Wiesenthal.&nbsp;

Kenneth’s life was marked by service to his country, to his community through decades of work, and to those who knew him best through quiet dedication and love. May his memory bring comfort to all who knew him.

Funeral service will be 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, September 10, 2025, at Our Redeemer Lutheran Church, 407 E. 12th, Hutchinson, with Pastor Quentin Nuttmann officiating. Burial will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery, Hutchinson. Military Honors will be conducted by the Fort Riley Honor Guard. Four home games will be played at Gowans Stadium this season, including the home opener this Saturday, Sept. 13.

The Blue Dragons are coming off their second national championship in football after defeating Iowa Western in the NJCAA Division I Football Championship in December 2024 at West Texas A&amp;M University's Buffalo Stadium in Canyon, Texas.

The two teams will once again face off in Hutchinson's home opener at noon Saturday, September 13 at Gowans Stadium. Blue Dragon Athletics will recognize the Spring 2025 semester team champions and more for Blue Dragon Champions Day.Homecoming week will headline the second home game as the homecoming game will be at 1 p.m. Saturday, October 18 against the Independence Pirates. It will also be Blue Dragon Football Recognition for football alumni.

The third home game of the season will be the second game of back-to-backs in the Blue Dragons' home stretch as Hutchinson hosts Coffeyville in a primetime 7 p.m. kickoff on Saturday, October 25. The theme for the night game is "Football and a Movie at Gowans." Stick around after the game for a late-night movie on the DragonVision Videoboard.

Turon - Thomas "Tom" G. Frank, 77, passed away Sunday, September 7, 2025 at his home. He was born on October 14, 1947 in Hutchinson to G. Gerald and M. Eileen (Hazen) Frank. Tom married Vickie Lynn (Keller) Frank on April 3, 1971 in Ulysses. She preceded him in death on May 9, 2024.

Tom graduated from Fairfield High School in 1965 and went on to attend Salt City Business College for 2 years. He started his working career at the Preston Co-op in 1968. He then began farming with his dad and in the winter would help build houses. He then started working for the US Postal Service as a substitute mail carrier in 1980 and went full time in 1984 until his retirement in 2014. He was a member of Turon Community Church and was a District 7 volunteer firefighter for 13 years where he served as the Chief for 4 of those years. He enjoyed doing woodworking and helping his children and grandchildren with projects.

He is survived by his daughters, Heather Frank, Debra (Jason) Evans and Janelle (Kenneth Hacking) Frank; grandchildren, Jaden (Adalina Fountain) Evans, Trent (Daisy Raburn) Evans and Ava Evans all of Turon.

Tom is preceded in death by his parents; wife, Vickie Frank; and son, Brian Frank.

Visitation will be Friday, September 12, 2025 from 9:00 a.m. - 8:00 p.m. with family receiving friends from 5-7 at Larrison Mortuary, 300 Country Club Road, Pratt. Debra Louise Hawkins, 67, died Sunday, August 24, 2025, at Hospice House in Hutchinson. She was born June 24, 1958 in Hutchinson, to James Arthur and Lydia (Weilert) Fraser. &nbsp;

Debra attended Hutchinson High School and then went on to pursue her education at Hutchinson Community College. In her earlier years, Debra was an entrepreneur and business owner in diverse sectors. Her work ethic was truly inspiring. Later on, she became a homemaker to fully dedicate her time to raising her family. Some of Debras hobbies include, shopping, playing bingo and gardening. Visiting casinos in Las Vegas and going on cruises with family and friends filled her with joy. Most importantly, Debra loved time spent with her children and grandchildren.

On October 31, 1989, she married Bobby Craig Hawkins, in Hutchinson. They shared over 35 years of marriage.

Debra is survived by: her husband, Bobby Hawkins; children, Robert (Sandy) Baker, Ray (Shauna) Baker, and Kari Baker; sisters, Judith (Ron) Baker, Ann (Larry) Swanson, and Cindy (Eric) Ervin; grandchildren, Trevor (Krista) Hoheisel, Emily Baker, Austin (Novalie) Baker, Samantha (Nate) Baker, Lyndsey (Billy) Petrihos, Ryan (Brenna) Allen, and Tanner Allen; and 9 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

Much like June 5, 2021, the day of December 18, 2025 will always be a celebrated day in the history of Hutchinson Community College Football.

Why are those days revered in Blue Dragon lore? On those two days in history, the Blue Dragons raised NJCAA national championship football trophies.

Sixth-year Blue Dragon head coach Drew Dallas pridefully looks at those days often, but as the 2025 season opener at New Mexico Military has almost arrived, the title of an old Bob Seger song seems apropos for the occasion. It's time for the Blue Dragons to "turn the page."

Picked No. 1 in both the Jayhawk Conference preseason coaches' poll and the NJCAA Division I Football preseason rankings, the Blue Dragons embark on their 2025 journey starting Saturday in Roswell, New Mexico against New Mexico Military. Game time in at 1 p.m. at Colt Field.

According to Dallas, there wasn't much championship hangover suffered after the team returned from holiday break last January. The focus has been a singular one amongst the players as the entire returning group is hungry for more in 2025.

"We moved on pretty quickly," said Dallas, who is 49-5 in his first five seasons with the Blue Dragons. "Back in January, our guys were really putting in a lot of work and worked hard through the spring semester. They have worked hard to this point.

"The new year brings new challenges. We have some important pieces that we have to replace. We are excited about this group."

The 2025 Blue Dragons return five offensive starters (12 overall letter winners) and four starters on defense (14 total) for the 2025 season.

Some of those pieces to be replaced Dallas referred to are:

+ Running back Waymond Jordan Jr., who was the KJCCC and NJCAA Offensive Player of the Year and the winner of the JUCO Weekly Trophy (the junior college equivalent of the Heisman Trophy), who rushed for 1,613 yards and 20 touchdowns last season;

+ Starting quarterback Samari Collier and his combined 29 passing and rushing touchdowns;

+ The top three receivers from 2024 in Benson Prosper, Tre Brown and Ja'Cory Thomas, who combined for 97 catches, 1,481 receiving yards and 18 receiving touchdowns;

+ Several players from a No. 1-ranked Blue Dragon defensive unit that allowed 15.8 points per game.

"Last year, once we kind of figured out who that team was, we understood them better and we coached off of that," Dallas said. "This football team has been pretty level-headed and consistent since they have arrived. We hope that will be a continued trend."

The 2024 Blue Dragon offense averaged 45.1 points per game last season, the fourth-highest scoring average in team history. The Dragons rushed for 267.9 yards per game, the second-best rush average per game in program history. Overall, the Dragons averaged 463.2 total yards per game, including 195.3 passing yards.

Defensively, the Dragons were stingy, allowing 282.9 yards per game (107.1 rushing and 175.8 passing). The 2024 Blue Dragon defense also came up with 27 takeaways.

Quarterback: Yes, the Blue Dragons have to replace a starting quarterback from 2024, but Dallas has the luxury of having a quarterback who saw ample time in that championship season to lock into the starting spot.

<a href="https://bluedragonsports.com/sports/fball/2025-26/bios/johnson_christian_b2h0">Christian Johnson</a>&nbsp;played in 10 games last season, making one start. Johnson had to replace Collier in the third quarter of the NJCAA Championship game in December and completed the comeback from a 10-point halftime deficit in the Dragons' 28-23 victory. His first pass of the game was a 34-yard touchdown strike.

For the season, Johnson completed 65 of 112 passes for 983 yards and seven touchdowns. He rushed for 323 yards and four scores.

"Christian came in last year and led the game-winning drive against Iowa Western in Game 2 last year, but he had a hiccup against Butler in a game where he had great stats, but was bitten by the turnover bug," Dallas said. "Christian learned a lot from that. He operates extremely fast. His decision making is really good.

"The growth he made from last season is extremely high and I'm looking forward to watching him this year."

There are six quarterbacks in the quarterback room, including redshirt freshman&nbsp;<a href="https://bluedragonsports.com/sports/fball/2025-26/bios/ferralez_hudson_jdi6">Hudson Ferralez</a>, who had a strong spring and fall camp.

Running Back: How things shake out at running back will, according to Dallas, probably not be decided by Game 1, but will go well into the season.

"You start to learn a lot about the running back position when you get into true game reps early in the year," Dallas said. "When they are live, that's the only true way you can judge and learn their play-making ability. We have some really good people in that room."

One of the returning players at running back is&nbsp;<a href="https://bluedragonsports.com/sports/fball/2025-26/bios/petteway_titus_ilrp">Titus Petteway</a>, who had 36 carries for 189 yards and three touchdowns last season.

Others players to watch for is&nbsp;<a href="https://bluedragonsports.com/sports/fball/2025-26/bios/hurt_rashaud_tbme">Rashaud Hurt</a>, Daeshawn Carter (19 carries for 80 yards in 2024),&nbsp;<a href="https://bluedragonsports.com/sports/fball/2025-26/bios/leak_rayvelle_0f4l">Rayvelle Leak</a>,&nbsp;<a href="https://bluedragonsports.com/sports/fball/2025-26/bios/harvey_lekedrin_b9ot">Lekedrin Harvey</a>&nbsp;and&nbsp;<a href="https://bluedragonsports.com/sports/fball/2025-26/bios/mcbride_derrell_0lwd">Derrell McBride</a>.

"All of those guys had good camps and have shown flashes," Dallas said. "We will see how they continue to progress."

As far as fullback/H-back players, returning player&nbsp;<a href="https://bluedragonsports.com/sports/fball/2025-26/bios/coonrod_cole_w81e">Cole Coonrod</a>&nbsp;redshirted last season, but is in his second year in the program. Freshmen&nbsp;<a href="https://bluedragonsports.com/sports/fball/2025-26/bios/harris_jabari_8tau">Jabari Harris</a>&nbsp;and&nbsp;<a href="https://bluedragonsports.com/sports/fball/2025-26/bios/seamster_kaiden_cn1y">Kaiden Seamster</a>&nbsp;will vie for playing time.

Receivers: There are a lot of expectations from the Blue Dragon receivers in 2025.

<a href="https://bluedragonsports.com/sports/fball/2025-26/bios/salley_jr._derrick_8ftn">Derrick Salley Jr.</a>&nbsp;is the leading returning receiver from 2024. Salley had 19 receptions for 317 yards and five touchdowns last season.&nbsp;<a href="https://bluedragonsports.com/sports/fball/2025-26/bios/robinson_la-terrius_k1cd">LT Robinson</a>&nbsp;is back after 16 receptions for 189 yards last year.

Also back is a player who made his name as a return specialist, but looks to play a larger role at receiver is&nbsp;<a href="https://bluedragonsports.com/sports/fball/2025-26/bios/gouldsby_kordell_rb8n">Kordell Gouldsby</a>, who was the 2024 NJCAA Championship Game Most Valuable Player for his 73-yard punt return for a touchdown and his 149 all-purpose yards.

"Kordell has really taken that next step to define himself as a receiver," Dallas said.

A new player to watch for is San Diego State transfer Bobby Shaw.

"You can tell Bobby has been around college football and that will help us." Dallas said. "This is going to be a good group for us."

Offensive Line: All-conference center&nbsp;<a href="https://bluedragonsports.com/sports/fball/2025-26/bios/thrush_mason_7hjn">Mason Thrush</a>&nbsp;returns to lead the Blue Dragon offensive line this season. Also back and&nbsp;<a href="https://bluedragonsports.com/sports/fball/2025-26/bios/smith_rashad_30zs">Rashad Smith</a>&nbsp;and&nbsp;<a href="https://bluedragonsports.com/sports/fball/2025-26/bios/johnson_dylan_jy9g">Dylan Johnson</a>, both have starts at the guard positions from 2024.

Dallas will have to replace both tackles for 2025.&nbsp;<a href="https://bluedragonsports.com/sports/fball/2025-26/bios/nolan-cook_dylan_xsfr">Dylan Nolan-Cook</a>&nbsp;and&nbsp;<a href="https://bluedragonsports.com/sports/fball/2025-26/bios/thornton_gus_82uc">Gus Thuston</a>&nbsp;are transfer players who have had good fall camps.

"There is good athleticism and good size on the offensive line this year," Dallas said. "There are a host of newcomers who are going to continue to push and fight for spots. Right now we just have to figure out who are our best five guys are and what positions they fit in best. Offensive line is not only an individual position, but a group position."

Defensive Line: The Blue Dragons have good returning experience on the interior of the defensive line from 2024 with three players returning.

<a href="https://bluedragonsports.com/sports/fball/2025-26/bios/henson_k.j._0bwy">K.J. Henson</a>&nbsp;was second on the team in 2024 with six quarterback sacks and had 21 total tackles.&nbsp;<a href="https://bluedragonsports.com/sports/fball/2025-26/bios/manns_jeffrey_uxl0">Jeffrey Manns</a>&nbsp;had three sacks, 34 tackles and a fumble recovery.&nbsp;<a href="https://bluedragonsports.com/sports/fball/2025-26/bios/robinson_taveon_s0zn">TaVeon Robinson</a>&nbsp;played in eight games last season and had 13 tackles, including 1.5 tackles for loss and 0.5 quarterback sacks.

"Those three are going to anchor in the interior defensive line," Dallas said. "We have others who will be in the mix as well."

At defensive end, Demarcus Johnson returns after a 27-tackle, 8.5 tackle-for-loss, 4.0 quarterback sack freshman season. Johnson also had eight quarterback hurries, two defended passes and two fumble recoveries. Johnson is 6-feet, 6-inches tall.

Then add&nbsp;<a href="https://bluedragonsports.com/sports/fball/2025-26/bios/wiley_darius_xg0z">Darius Wiley</a>&nbsp;at 6-6 and J'lynn Allen at 6-7 and who have the making of what Dallas described as the "longest group of defensive ends in my time at Hutchinson."

Adding to the depth at defensive end are Ja'Vienane Stevens and&nbsp;<a href="https://bluedragonsports.com/sports/fball/2025-26/bios/wilson_jason_jg3k">Jason Wilson</a>.

"All of those guys give us great length and we have good speed rushers," Dallas said. "This spot is going to be pretty deep. We have going to have some good rotations and we will be able to keep guys fresh."

Linebackers: Another spot with depth is linebacker. Gone are leading tacklers JaQuel Mack and Kedrick Walker, but returning with limited experience is&nbsp;<a href="https://bluedragonsports.com/sports/fball/2025-26/bios/whitman_brady_gvvz">Brady Whitman</a>&nbsp;and&nbsp;<a href="https://bluedragonsports.com/sports/fball/2025-26/bios/rice_jalen_kcje">Jalen Rice</a>. A pair of transfers in&nbsp;<a href="https://bluedragonsports.com/sports/fball/2025-26/bios/haines_teegan_n109">Teegan Haines</a>&nbsp;and Tyler Lassiter will bring some game experience to the position group. Freshmen Jack sells and&nbsp;<a href="https://bluedragonsports.com/sports/fball/2025-26/bios/woods_keizavion_661j">Keizavion Woods</a>&nbsp;are getting a lot of early reps in practice as well.

"We are going to have a bunch of new faces at linebacker," Dallas said. "There is a big-time mental side to play linebacker in our system. Those guys can handle it. I think we have a lot of linebackers who can play at a very high level."

Secondary: D.J. Jester was a starting cornerback for the Blue Dragons in 2024. He is being moved to safety for this season after 49 tackles, five passes broken up and an interception in his freshman season.

Also back at safety is M.J. Graham (16 tackles, 2 interceptions), redshirt freshman Jonathan Boyd.&nbsp;<a href="https://bluedragonsports.com/sports/fball/2025-26/bios/summerall_brice_jeho">Brice Summerall</a>&nbsp;(9 tackles) played a lot of nickel for the Dragons in 2024, including several snaps in the NJCAA Championship game.

"That group is really important to our defense with the run fits and coverage adjustments," Dallas said. "This is a smart group and it's a talented group and they are confident in what they are doing."

<a href="https://bluedragonsports.com/sports/fball/2025-26/bios/parker_earl_zuqs">Earl Parker</a>, Ray Reynolds,&nbsp;<a href="https://bluedragonsports.com/sports/fball/2025-26/bios/lynch_l.j._x6px">L.J. Lynch</a>&nbsp;and&nbsp;<a href="https://bluedragonsports.com/sports/fball/2025-26/bios/harrell_maurice_izww">MJ Harrell</a>&nbsp;all return at cornerback.

"We have good size at corner and some good skill at corner," Dallas said.

His first pass of the game was a 34-yard touchdown strike.For the season, Johnson completed 65 of 112 passes for 983 yards and seven touchdowns. He rushed for 323 yards and four scores."Christian came in last year and led the game-winning drive against Iowa Western in Game 2 last year, but he had a hiccup against Butler in a game where he had great stats, but was bitten by the turnover bug," Dallas said. "Christian learned a lot from that. He operates extremely fast. His decision making is really good."The growth he made from last season is extremely high and I'm looking forward to watching him this year."There are six quarterbacks in the quarterback room, including redshirt freshman&nbsp;<a href="https://bluedragonsports.com/sports/fball/2025-26/bios/ferralez_hudson_jdi6">Hudson Ferralez</a>, who had a strong spring and fall camp.Running Back: How things shake out at running back will, according to Dallas, probably not be decided by Game 1, but will go well into the season."You start to learn a lot about the running back position when you get into true game reps early in the year," Dallas said. "When they are live, that's the only true way you can judge and learn their play-making ability. We have some really good people in that room."One of the returning players at running back is&nbsp;<a href="https://bluedragonsports.com/sports/fball/2025-26/bios/petteway_titus_ilrp">Titus Petteway</a>, who had 36 carries for 189 yards and three touchdowns last season.Others players to watch for is&nbsp;<a href="https://bluedragonsports.com/sports/fball/2025-26/bios/hurt_rashaud_tbme">Rashaud Hurt</a>, Daeshawn Carter (19 carries for 80 yards in 2024),&nbsp;<a href="https://bluedragonsports.com/sports/fball/2025-26/bios/leak_rayvelle_0f4l">Rayvelle Leak</a>,&nbsp;<a href="https://bluedragonsports.com/sports/fball/2025-26/bios/harvey_lekedrin_b9ot">Lekedrin Harvey</a>&nbsp;and&nbsp;<a href="https://bluedragonsports.com/sports/fball/2025-26/bios/mcbride_derrell_0lwd">Derrell McBride</a>."All of those guys had good camps and have shown flashes," Dallas said. Freshmen&nbsp;<a href="https://bluedragonsports.com/sports/fball/2025-26/bios/harris_jabari_8tau">Jabari Harris</a>&nbsp;and&nbsp;<a href="https://bluedragonsports.com/sports/fball/2025-26/bios/seamster_kaiden_cn1y">Kaiden Seamster</a>&nbsp;will vie for playing time.Receivers: There are a lot of expectations from the Blue Dragon receivers in 2025.<a href="https://bluedragonsports.com/sports/fball/2025-26/bios/salley_jr._derrick_8ftn">Derrick Salley Jr.</a>&nbsp;is the leading returning receiver from 2024. Salley had 19 receptions for 317 yards and five touchdowns last season.&nbsp;<a href="https://bluedragonsports.com/sports/fball/2025-26/bios/robinson_la-terrius_k1cd">LT Robinson</a>&nbsp;is back after 16 receptions for 189 yards last year.Also back is a player who made his name as a return specialist, but looks to play a larger role at receiver is&nbsp;<a href="https://bluedragonsports.com/sports/fball/2025-26/bios/gouldsby_kordell_rb8n">Kordell Gouldsby</a>, who was the 2024 NJCAA Championship Game Most Valuable Player for his 73-yard punt return for a touchdown and his 149 all-purpose yards."Kordell has really taken that next step to define himself as a receiver," Dallas said.A new player to watch for is San Diego State transfer Bobby Shaw."You can tell Bobby has been around college football and that will help us." Dallas said. "This is going to be a good group for us."Offensive Line: All-conference center&nbsp;<a href="https://bluedragonsports.com/sports/fball/2025-26/bios/thrush_mason_7hjn">Mason Thrush</a>&nbsp;returns to lead the Blue Dragon offensive line this season. Also back and&nbsp;<a href="https://bluedragonsports.com/sports/fball/2025-26/bios/smith_rashad_30zs">Rashad Smith</a>&nbsp;and&nbsp;<a href="https://bluedragonsports.com/sports/fball/2025-26/bios/johnson_dylan_jy9g">Dylan Johnson</a>, both have starts at the guard positions from 2024.Dallas will have to replace both tackles for 2025.&nbsp;<a href="https://bluedragonsports.com/sports/fball/2025-26/bios/nolan-cook_dylan_xsfr">Dylan Nolan-Cook</a>&nbsp;and&nbsp;<a href="https://bluedragonsports.com/sports/fball/2025-26/bios/thornton_gus_82uc">Gus Thuston</a>&nbsp;are transfer players who have had good fall camps."There is good athleticism and good size on the offensive line this year," Dallas said. "There are a host of newcomers who are going to continue to push and fight for spots. Right now we just have to figure out who are our best five guys are and what positions they fit in best. Offensive line is not only an individual position, but a group position."Defensive Line: The Blue Dragons have good returning experience on the interior of the defensive line from 2024 with three players returning.<a href="https://bluedragonsports.com/sports/fball/2025-26/bios/henson_k.j._0bwy">K.J. Henson</a>&nbsp;was second on the team in 2024 with six quarterback sacks and had 21 total tackles.&nbsp;<a href="https://bluedragonsports.com/sports/fball/2025-26/bios/manns_jeffrey_uxl0">Jeffrey Manns</a>&nbsp;had three sacks, 34 tackles and a fumble recovery.&nbsp;<a href="https://bluedragonsports.com/sports/fball/2025-26/bios/robinson_taveon_s0zn">TaVeon Robinson</a>&nbsp;played in eight games last season and had 13 tackles, including 1.5 tackles for loss and 0.5 quarterback sacks."Those three are going to anchor in the interior defensive line," Dallas said. "We have others who will be in the mix as well."At defensive end, Demarcus Johnson returns after a 27-tackle, 8.5 tackle-for-loss, 4.0 quarterback sack freshman season. Johnson also had eight quarterback hurries, two defended passes and two fumble recoveries. Johnson is 6-feet, 6-inches tall.Then add&nbsp;<a href="https://bluedragonsports.com/sports/fball/2025-26/bios/wiley_darius_xg0z">Darius Wiley</a>&nbsp;at 6-6 and J'lynn Allen at 6-7 and who have the making of what Dallas described as the "longest group of defensive ends in my time at Hutchinson."Adding to the depth at defensive end are Ja'Vienane Stevens and&nbsp;<a href="https://bluedragonsports.com/sports/fball/2025-26/bios/wilson_jason_jg3k">Jason Wilson</a>."All of those guys give us great length and we have good speed rushers," Dallas said. "This spot is going to be pretty deep. We have going to have some good rotations and we will be able to keep guys fresh."Linebackers: Another spot with depth is linebacker. Gone are leading tacklers JaQuel Mack and Kedrick Walker, but returning with limited experience is&nbsp;<a href="https://bluedragonsports.com/sports/fball/2025-26/bios/whitman_brady_gvvz">Brady Whitman</a>&nbsp;and&nbsp;<a href="https://bluedragonsports.com/sports/fball/2025-26/bios/rice_jalen_kcje">Jalen Rice</a>. A pair of transfers in&nbsp;<a href="https://bluedragonsports.com/sports/fball/2025-26/bios/haines_teegan_n109">Teegan Haines</a>&nbsp;and Tyler Lassiter will bring some game experience to the position group. Freshmen Jack sells and&nbsp;<a href="https://bluedragonsports.com/sports/fball/2025-26/bios/woods_keizavion_661j">Keizavion Woods</a>&nbsp;are getting a lot of early reps in practice as well."We are going to have a bunch of new faces at linebacker," Dallas said. "There is a big-time mental side to play linebacker in our system. Those guys can handle it. I think we have a lot of linebackers who can play at a very high level."Secondary: D.J. Jester was a starting cornerback for the Blue Dragons in 2024. He is being moved to safety for this season after 49 tackles, five passes broken up and an interception in his freshman season.Also back at safety is M.J. Graham (16 tackles, 2 interceptions), redshirt freshman Jonathan Boyd.&nbsp;<a href="https://bluedragonsports.com/sports/fball/2025-26/bios/summerall_brice_jeho">Brice Summerall</a>&nbsp;(9 tackles) played a lot of nickel for the Dragons in 2024, including several snaps in the NJCAA Championship game."That group is really important to our defense with the run fits and coverage adjustments," Dallas said. "This is a smart group and it's a talented group and they are confident in what they are doing."<a href="https://bluedragonsports.com/sports/fball/2025-26/bios/parker_earl_zuqs">Earl Parker</a>, Ray Reynolds,&nbsp;<a href="https://bluedragonsports.com/sports/fball/2025-26/bios/lynch_l.j._x6px">L.J. Lynch</a>&nbsp;and&nbsp;<a href="https://bluedragonsports.com/sports/fball/2025-26/bios/harrell_maurice_izww">MJ Harrell</a>&nbsp;all return at cornerback."We have good size at corner and some good skill at corner," Dallas said.Special Teams: The Blue Dragons must replace all the kickers and punters for the new season, but Gouldsby is back as an all-conference return specialist. The MVP of the 2024 NJCAA Championship Game, Gouldsby averaged 14.7 yards per punt return and returned two four touchdowns. He averaged 28.2 yards per kickoff return.The kicking game will have an international flavor with Alejandro de la Poza, who is a native of Mallorca, Spain and punter&nbsp;<a href="https://bluedragonsports.com/sports/fball/2025-26/bios/moore_denzel_wu59">Denzel More</a>&nbsp;of Baskeville, Australia.The Blue Dragons will have the exact same tough schedule in 2025, but flip-flopped from last season.After the season-opening road trip to New Mexico, the Blue Dragons will have a home-opening national championship game rematch with No. 2 Iowa Western at Noon on September 13 at Gowans Stadium. That game will be the only home game for Hutchinson until October 18 against Independence.The November portion of the schedule has games at Butler (Nov. 1), Highland (Nov. 8) and the season finale with Garden City at Gowans Stadium (Nov. 15).
