🏈 No. 1 Blue Dragons, No. 2 Reivers set for Saturday showdown at Gowans

The Hutchinson Community College Football team did nothing to lose its grip on the No. 1 ranking in the latest NJCAA Division I Poll, released on Monday. Nor did Iowa Western when it defeated Georgia Military 39-20 on August 30.

For the third-straight season, the No. 1 Blue Dragons will meet the No. 2 Reivers in a No. 1 vs. No. 2 matchup. Kickoff for the Blue Dragons'2025 home opener is at Noon Saturday at Gowans Stadium. The game will be nationally televised by ESPN+.

The Blue Dragons forced a school-record eight takeaways in a 76-8 season-opening win last Saturday at New Mexico Military. The victory was head coach Drew Dallas' 50th win at Hutchinson.

The Blue Dragons extend their program record for longest consecutive weeks in the national poll with to 51 weeks. The Dragons have been ranked in the top three of the NJCAA Rankings for 45 consecutive polls and have been ranked No. 1 in 40 of the 70 polls released in the Drew Dallas era.

Saturday's game will be fifth time the Blue Dragons will play in a No. 1 vs. No. 2 matchup and it will be the third time the Blue Dragons and Reivers match up in a No. 1 vs. No. 2 showdown.

Then No. 2, Hutchinson defeated No. 1 Iowa Western last year 38-37 in Council Bluffs. The Blue Dragons defeated Iowa Western 28-23 in the NJCAA National Championship game on December 18, 2024 in Canyon, Texas. Iowa Western was No. 1 and the Blue Dragons were No. 3 in that game.

In 2023, No. 1 Hutchinson defeated No. 2 Iowa Western 34-27 at Gowans Stadium.

The Top 5 has Hutchinson Iowa Western, Northwest Mississippi at No. 3, Garden City at No. 4 and Tyler at No. 5. Butler is the only other team remaining from the KJCCC in poll consideration at No. 15.
